McCarthy becomes House Speaker on tight leash, CVS & Walgreens will dispense abortion pill, Crocs promotes drag queen shows for kids

It's Monday, January 9th, A.D. 2023. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard at www.TheWorldview.com. I'm Adam McManus. By Adam McManus (Adam@TheWorldview.com) Brave Indonesian pastor teaching about Christ to students in Muslim country Located in the Muslim-majority country of Indonesia, Pastor Arib was told they could no longer meet in their church building to worship, which they had been doing for two years, but now had to meet in people's homes instead, reports International Christian Concern. Additionally, Pastor Arib saw that one of the local schools did not offer a course where students could learn about religions besides Islam. He volunteered to teach a Christian education course for free. Initially, the school principal disapproved of Christian religious lessons because the school was predominantly Muslim, but Arib insisted. Finally, the school board approved his request, and he now teaches his class every Friday.  Because both his church and the school lack Bibles in their local Indonesian language, they requested and received 60 copies from International Christian Concern. Psalm 119:105 says, “Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path. ” McCarthy becomes House Speaker, but on a short leash After 14 failed votes for House Speaker, Republican Congressman Kevin McCarthy of California was elected as the 55th House Speaker in the early hours of Saturday, January 7th by a vote of 216–212, reports The Epoch Times.  But, thanks to 20 courageous conservatives, his coveted prize came with major strings attached. The key compromise is his willingness to agree to a rule change that allows just one Congressman to move to vacate the speaker's chair, giving McCarthy a fragile grip on power. That concession is found in subsection “q” of the new House rules package. Were this motion to be invoked, McCarthy would need a majority of 218 votes to remain as House speaker. Attorney Jenna Ellis, who represented the 2020 Trump campaign, tweeted, “This effectively neuters McCarthy.” Such a motion would be made via a so-called “privileged resolution,” which supersedes all other business except adjournment. In terms of McCarthy's House Speaker victory, while it normally takes 218 votes—a majority of the House—to become speaker, that threshold can be reduced if members are absent or merely vote present. It's precisely this maneuver that enabled McCarthy to cross the finish line, as six Republicans voted “present” instead of “yea” in the final vote. They include Reps. Andy Biggs (R-Ariz.), Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.), Eli Crane (R-Ariz.), Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.), Bob Good (R-Va.), and Matt Rosendale (R-Mont.). Joker gets pregnant in new comic book In the latest comic featuring the Joker, he gets pregnant, reports ComicBook.com. To their shame. the executives at D.C. Comics continue to groom and indoctrinate the next generation with their sexual perversion. By definition, and according to God's divine design, men cannot get pregnant. That includes Bruce Jenner! Send a letter of complaint to Diane Nelson, President, DC Comics, 4000 Warner Blvd, Burbank, CA 91522. CVS & Walgreens will dispense abortion pill Following the Food and Drug Administration's decision to loosen abortion pill distribution regulations, America's top pharmacy chains CVS and Walgreens announced their plans to dispense the lethal drugs, reports LifeSiteNews.com. Last Tuesday, the FDA updated its website to reflect new guidelines on abortion pill access, which now allows retail pharmacies to carry mifepristone which, used alongside misoprostol, causes the deaths of unborn babies at early stages of development. Family Research Council Action writes, “Abortion-inducing drugs take the lives of unborn children and are much likelier to cause a negative health outcome for pregnant women than surgical abortions. Studies show these drugs include a 53% greater risk of a complication than after a surgical abortion. The last thing any of us should want is to see our local CVS or Walgreens become an abortion business! Pharmacies are places where we go for treatment for ailments, and to alleviate suffering, but CVS and Walgreens would turn them into places of death for the unborn and pain for women.” Join 20,000 concerned citizens and sign the FRC Action petition through our transcript today at www.TheWorldview.com. Plus, to object more personally, call CVS President Karen Lynch at 1-401-765-1500.  (Or you can write her at CVS Headquarters One CVS Dr. Woonsocket, RI 02895.) To express your dissatisfaction with Walgreens, call James Skinner, the CEO, at 1-847-914-2500. (Or write him at Walgreens, 200 Wilmont Road, Deerfield, IL 60015.) 65% of Protestant churchgoers spend time alone with God daily A new study by Lifeway Research found that 65% of Protestant churchgoers spend time alone with God at least once daily. The study found respondents were more likely to pray than to read the Bible. About 80% said they pray, and 39% said they read the Bible or a devotional. Those who attend church weekly were more likely to read the Bible during their devotional time (at 70%) than those who attend less frequently (at 52%).  Psalm 88:13 says, “But I, O Lord, cry to You; in the morning my prayer comes before You.” Crocs promotes drag queen shows for kids And finally, Christians are tossing their Crocs. The leftist footwear company is sparking outrage for cosponsoring an upcoming RuPaul DragCon UK event, which is being advertised as open to anyone UNDER the age of 18. That's right – minors! Plus, Taylor Hansen tweeted that “it appears that Crocs is not only promoting children dressing in drag to perform for adults, but has fully subscribed to the woke mind virus. In their ads they promote drag queens, being ‘non-binary,' coming out as Queer, and [homosexual] Pride Month.” In the second Crocs ad, two homosexual actors rave about all their different styles of Crocs before they head to the baptism of a “mean gay baby.” In the third Crocs ad, a lesbian couple, who had a faux homosexual wedding, talk about announcing their sexual perversion and getting married. And, in the fourth Crocs ad, they feature a collage of all their previous ads celebrating unnatural desires. If you object to Crocs affirming homosexual behavior which is unhealthy and unbiblical as well as exposing impressionable children to sexually perverse drag queen shows, call Crocs at 1-866-306-3179. (Or write Andrew Rees, CEO of Crocs, 13601 Via Varra, Broomfield, CO 80020.) The final trailer for Far From Home has officially changed Spider Sense to Peter Tingle, and I will forever refer to it as this. Did the Stranger Things 3 trailer give away too much? Blumhouse produced remake “The Craft” is still in the works and they may have gotten Cailee Spaeny as lead! Rim of the World review. Netflix is losing the Office! The new Lion King movie may have Elton John competing for an Oscar with…well…Elton John. Kevin Smith confirms he’s finally got a show. It’s an IP we’re all familiar with, but he’s ONLY confirmed that it’s not Marvel. The Current War is all of the yes we wanted. A movie about the war between Tesla, Edison AND Westinghouse. Space Jam 2 has…unfortunately, started initial filming. The Boys could be that one show we’ve been waiting for. Marvel’s Spiderman review. Scooby Doo and Guess Who on Boomerang has…Jaleel White?! AS URKEL?! Venom 2 is officially happening. Sony Still has plans for Black Cat and Silver Sable! Taika Waititi is going to help Fox/Disney do an animated Flash Gordon movie Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo joined forces and all spoke out against Trumps Tariffs on gaming consoles. New One Punch Man announced…it looks funny. Twitch has soft launched a whole new feature, Subscriber-only streams. What do we think? Feige confirms that Spider-man: Far From Home is the official end to the Infinity Saga. He describes it as showing how Spiderman steps out from Tony’s shadow and becomes the true hero he was always meant to be. James Gunn’s Suicide Squad will start filming September 23rd and wrap January 31st in Atlanta, Georgia. He refuses to answer if it's a sequel or reboot David Dastmalchian (from ant-man and the wasp) joins as the Polka Dot Man.Comic book CornerDC Comics has cancelled Vertigo Comics permanently – What does it mean – DC Zoom Cancelled – DC Ink Cancelled – Now only 3 imprints ○ DC Kids from ages 8-12 ○ DC will be 13 and up ○ Black Label is for 17 and up – Makes sense, but what is the secret gossip? The former DC president Diane Nelson created all of these imprints, the new president Pamela Lifford wants the bare minimum of imprints with the most simplistic branding possible. This means that some comics are going to have to either change to Black Label, be cancelled, or be toned down to fit into DC (13 and up). What was initially thought to be a Fantastic Four/Spiderman crossover after Marvel revealed a “webbed number 4” the next day we learned it was a countdown. What did it count down? JJ Abrams has joined his son, Henry Abrams to make a 5 issue limited series called “Spider-man” with a villain named “Cadaverous” Savage Avengers Update • Wolverine can save people with his blood. • They involve Venom symbiote and Punisher. The basic concept of the series, is that the Hand needs the blood of the most powerful warriors to do something big, that's the justification behind the series. What could go wrong? Meeple Mania Tal Der Wikinger (Valley of the Vikings) has won 2019 Children’s Game of the year. You have little boats filled with coins, you knock barrels over, sounds fun and these award winning games often have staying power if you choose to pick it up. • This will be available before the end of 2019 Jaws. You can play the role of the shark in Jaws the board game. 2-4 players with the shark gaining powers based on how many humans it can eat. Looks cool, plus what could go wrong with eating the characters of the other players? • Now available at Target. Starfarer’s of Catan. A new edition is coming out, I missed the first edition, the new edition has revised graphics and game materials, it sounds fun. • Q4 release date Lord of the Rings: Journeys in Middle Earth

In trying to explain the story, series star Stephen Amell turned to a familiar superhero staple for audiences: Batman Begins. "Susan appears to be up to no good, but in reality, she's just following a very interesting story," Amell told reporters during a set visit back in November. "I mean, the mayor of the town where she's a reporter was clearly not on an island for five consecutive years -- which, by the way, I think it's about time we did that. I always think back to the first Nolan Batman, where Ra's al Ghul says to him 'The world is too small a place for someone like Bruce Wayne to disappear.' Even if [Oliver] wasn't as famous -- and he wasn't -- he did perish in a very famous incident in our story. I always thought when he was in Hong Kong that someone would stop him and be like, 'Hey, you look like Oliver Queen!' but it didn't happen." More than 1,800 participated — twice as many women as men — but the results proved there isn't such a great divide between the sexes after all, at least when it comes to what types of females we enjoy watching on screens. #15 is Felicity Smoak - Felicity was supposed to be a minor character, but her chemistry with Oliver Queen made her a fan favorite. By season two of The CW's adaptation of the DC comic, she was a regular player. "Felicity has developed over the course of the series," says Rickards. "She's from a regular world. She's relatable, honest and grounded. But she's not boring." During a new installment of The CW's Fan Feast, actor Carlos Valdes (Vibe) confirmed that Gypsy/Cindy Reynolds will be introduced at some point when the show returns in January. “There's going to be a new visitor to our world named Gypsy,” said Valdes. "DC Comics fans will be familiar with Gypsy. She is going to be coming in our world and Vibe will definitely get to learn some new skills as part of getting to know her. So I'm excited to see how that plays out.” Based on Valdes' comments, it's safe to assume that they'll be going with the New 52 incarnation of the character, who was a runaway from another dimension. The move came after the Oct. 21 appointment of the superhero to fight for gender equality sparked heavy criticism, with nearly 45,000 people signing an online petition asking U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon to reconsider selection of the character. "Although the original creators may have intended Wonder Woman to represent a strong and independent 'warrior' woman with a feminist message, the reality is that the character's current iteration is that of a large breasted, white woman of impossible proportions," the petition read. Dozens of U.N. employees protested at the U.N. headquarters in New York City on the day of the appointment when Diane Nelson, president of DC Entertainment, said the Wonder Woman campaign would feature various initiatives "over the course of the next year." The U.N. did not provide further details as to why the Wonder Woman campaign was ending this week but spokesman Jeffrey Brez said campaigns using fictional characters often lasted no longer than a few months. What difference can a trial make, really? In Guatemala: The Question of Genocide (Taylor and Frances, 2016), Elizabeth Obglesby and Diane Nelson start from this question to examine much more broadly the memory and politics of genocide in Guatemala. To do so, they invited many of the scholars familiar with the conflict in Guatemala to reflect on the role genocide has played in that country. Many authors are Guatemalan, others have worked in the country for years or decades. The result is a wide-ranging, perceptive group of essays published as a special issue of the Journal of Genocide Research. Some deal specifically with the trial itself and its significance within and outside of Guatemala. Others investigate the experience of witnesses at the trial, especially survivors of sexual assault, and ask what these witnesses hoped to achieve. Others broaden their lens to investigate the arguments over how to characterize the violence in Guatemala and the ways in which this argument has shaped responses to the conflict. All in all, it’s a remarkably interesting and insightful compilation. I was able to speak with Liz earlier this month. We spoke about the articles in the journal issue, about her experience testifying at the trial of Rios Montt, about the responses of her students to the genocide and about how she attempts to teach about Guatemala. This interview is the first of a short two part series on Guatemala. I recorded an interview with Roddy Brett shortly before I spoke with Liz. I hope you’ll come back to hear that interview as well. Kelly McFall is Associate Professor of History at Newman University in Wichita Kansas, where he directs the Honors Program. He is particularly interested in the question of how to teach about the history of genocides and mass atrocities and has written a module in the Reacting to the Past series about the UN’s debate over whether to intervene in Rwanda in 1994. Fight/stunt 3 Battle in the oculus chamber.  Lots of firing, heat gun, cold gun etc. Time travel: Thoughts on the tropes and mechanics Nice flashback to start, back to the recruiting scene in 2016 Great to see the team back before all the messing with the timeline Jax - “Something called time travel - the team's in trouble”.  Very Bill and Ted showing up in his own past once he's left the room. (Marty! It's your kids!) This timetravel model, there is no free will - only free will at the vanishing point Nothing you can do to change time?   Part 2: The Characters Rip Hunter Rate on a scale of 1 (Capt. of the Titanic - Edward John Smith) to 10 (the best - Picard) Freaking out with “NO ONE CONTROLS ME” which breaks him. “You lot guard the entrance”. I'm sorry, but is “you lot” the official way to address the crew. Well, it's either that or walk the plank Argggg! Shrinks Ray to carry him. Vandal Savage “An appointment I have… with Destiny” kinda sounds like an exotic dancer Execution of Rip's family - still murders Miranda and Jonas Time Masters The Reveal of the oculus and the reveal of the master manipulation of the entire crew Ordered Savage to kill Rip's family to motivate him.  Super dick move. Guy doing the induction process kinda enjoys it. Love the time ships preparing to jump in the hangar, like the rebel fleet about to attack the death star or the Mass Effect Pelicans getting ready for a combat drop or the Space Marines about to assault the Alien Queen with Ripley The Atom - Ray Palmer Still cares for Kendra - freaked out when she was shot by the prison guards. Continues the theme of believing in the face of adversity Interesting bonding with Mick & how he survived not being turned into Chronos “All I wanted to do was make a difference.”  Keeps working even though that's how he dies. White Canary - Sara Lance And she's a badass pilot.  “Punch it Gideon” “Want to steal a kiss from me… you better be one hell of a thief”.  Dammit, I really wanted these two to get together. - then the final kiss just kills me. Hawkgirl - Kendra Saunders Kinda loses it when she realizes Savage is going to kill Rip's family.  That was the whole point of the mission… well, that and saving the earth from Savage's destruction and reign. They arguably failed at all of that and made it worse. No barista reference. Hawkman - Carter Hall In stasis - not in this episode Captain Cold - Leonard Snart I freakin' love Snart in the past Dammit - I want an entire show of just Sara and Snart “There are no strings on me”  Frickin beautiful line. He was a hero. Heatwave - Mick Rory Soliloquy when faced with becoming Chronos again - “I focused on vengeance. I focused on how much I hated all of you” “Oh yeah, that's good… break my arms” - Mick has the best lines “For a time master, you sure waste a lot of it” Executes the a**-hole time master “Get me out of this stupid robot suit” “If you tell the team I actually care, I'll shave your head” - focused on the team Firestorm - Professor Martin Stein Arrogant interaction with Jax in the past Nice speech to Jax about something having gone right on the mission re: Jefferson maturing and he being less of an asshat. Firestorm - Jefferson Jackson “It's the best decision I never made.” re: being roofied and going on the mission. Waverider/Gideon Calls on the ye olde fashioned phone - uploaded into the latency core. Love the firing effects on the vanishing point   EPISODE DC EASTER EGGS:   Season 1 Episode 15 “Destiny” (Date: 12 May 2016) Article:http://comicbook.com/dc/2016/05/13/legends-of-tomorrow-things-you-might-have-missed-in-destiny/ Thanagar: Legends of Tomorrow made Thanagarians - DC's alien hawkman species and home to Nth Metal with strong ties to Hawkgirl and Hawkman, this just became cannon for the DC TV Universe.  Lots of comic references and lore, and on the cartoon Justice League Unlimited Smugglers Hatch: Pretty obvious reference to Star Wars and the Millennium Falcon Time Sphere: When Jax heads back to 2016, we get a look at he and Martin working on the Time Sphere that was broken in the season finale of The Flash last year.  In the comics, the Time Sphere (also sometimes called a Time Bubble) was the primary means of time-travel used by Rip Hunter, Time Master...as well as Booster Gold, The Legion of Super-Heroes, and other characters. “I'll shave your head”: The threat Mick uses against Ray -- that he'll "shave your head" -- is presumably a nod to the fact that all season long, he's referred to Ray as "haircut.". “No strings on me”: Iconic Pinocchio line, used by Ultron in the second avengers movie Tabula Rasa: While "Tabula rasa" has a broader cultural meaning outside of DC Comics, meaning "blank slate," as explained by Ray…  it's worth noting that there are two major DC Comics uses of the phrase: one is a Batman story in which he is forced to work with Bane -- and the other is an organization in the Wildstorm universe whose actual name is Tabula Rasa. Make it Happen DC!!! The second is dealing with the fallout from the final fight with the Ninth Circle. * First issue with Stephen Byrne taking the art over from Juan Ferreyra, and the art style is less realistic and more anime, which isn't really my style, but I can see it work with Emi and a Japanese setting for the current story. * Problem with a “dire” cliffhanger for Emi is that we know she's not in any danger, which made it a poor choice for a cliffhanger from a writing perspective Comixology:https://www.comixology.com/Green-Arrow-2016-6/digital-comic/397908?ref=bGlzdC92aWV3L2Rlc2t0b3AvZ3JpZExpc3QvbGlzdDEzMDI4 CBRU: http://comicbookroundup.com/comic-books/reviews/dc-comics/green-arrow-(2016)/6 * CBRU (Metacritic) aggregate Score is brought down by a couple fours, but other than that scored pretty-much 8's and 9's   NEXT EPISODE   Promo for Next Week: Legends Of Tomorrow Season 1 Finale - “Legendary” Article:http://www.comicbookmovie.com/dc_tv/legends_of_tomorrow/new-extended-promo-for-legends-of-tomorrow-season-1-a141630 Video: https://youtu.be/lrsVKX1nU0A IMDB: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt5052438/?ref_=tt_ep_nx   Episode:                                       “Legendary” [Season 1 Episode 16] Air Date:                                      Thursday, May 19th, 2016 Summary:                                    After the numerous sacrifices the team has made since the beginning of this ride, Rip decides that it's time they each decide their own destiny and returns them to Central City a few months after they first left. This week's Cultures of Energy podcast is brought to you by the number zero. Our co-hosts cover the need for more fun in academic life and Hollywood takes on the Anthropocene. Then (9:11) Cymene speaks with the ever joyful Diane Nelson, Professor of Anthropology at Duke University and author of Who Counts? The Mathematics of Death and Life after Genocide (Duke University Press, 2015). They talk hot-tub feminism, the power of numbers in how we think and feel about the world, genocide in the Capitalocene, and the politics of land, forests and hydroelectric power in Guatemala today. Diane offers us lessons from living in a country that has experienced massive human and environmental losses but also reminds us that, like the number zero, every end is also a beginning.

"In 1913 Futurist Luigi Russolo developed several noise machines, which he named ‘intonarumori’. In his manifesto, The Art of Noise, Russolo argued that musical instruments could no longer satisfy man's thirst for sounds. Almost 100 years later, people are still exploring the possibilities of sound. This is what I tried to capture in this mix - testing the limits of sound, from shrieking highs to almost imperceptible lows, finding new ways of interpreting and portraying life through the medium of sound. Despite including over 100 artists, the mix by no means represents a completist viewpoint; so many perhaps important artists in the development of 'noise' were left out. It was not my intention to do a 'who's who' of noise music, but rather to show how the exploration of sound has developed over time and how fascinating these explorations are. I did at times take into account the historical significance of the piece/artist when choosing tracks, although I was steered mainly by what was sonically interesting to me. Well that's it - the mix should speak for itself. If you are interested in digging deeper please follow the links provided. Listen at maximum volume and enjoy."
