In this week's episode I'm joined by author, playwright and journalist Stephen Spotswood, who's here to talk about Dead in the Frame, the latest instalment in his 1940s-set mystery series featuring sleuthing duo Pentecost and Parker.Stephen shares the inspirations behind the series—drawing on golden age mysteries, hardboiled noir, and classic radio dramas—and explains how the fifth book sees a shake-up in the usual dynamic between Will and Lillian. We also chat about how his background in playwriting has helped shape his fiction, why he's now a committed outliner, and how he balances plot and emotional depth in his stories. You'll also hear:How writing helped him stay grounded while reporting on difficult issuesThe challenges and joys of writing a long-running seriesThe moment he realised mystery fiction was his true homeAnd of course, Stephen tells us about the book that changed everything for him, and shares a powerful insight that helped take his writing to the next level.SHOW LINKSDead in The Frame - Stephen's Latest Book✍️ Sign up to my Write or Die monthly newsletter and get your FREE Writer's Survival Kit: Sign up here

Are you too stressed to enjoy life? If so, you will want to listen to this episode. There is a message that I've said over and over throughout the years (and that I've had to learn myself), and it is that self-care is not selfish. In order to be great moms, it's important we remember to care for ourselves too.My guest today, Rachel Norman, is just as passionate as I am about helping overwhelmed and stressed-out moms. She is a mother, parent coach, and certified baby and toddler sleep consultant. Rachel is also the founder of A Mother Far From Home, an online community dedicated to helping mothers create peaceful and enjoyable lives for their families. In this episode, you'll hear:Why we need to pay attention to our natural limitsWhether sacrificing our own needs is biblicalThe first step you can take to reduce stress in your homeAnd more! This was a great conversation for moms of all kinds. Don't we need to see the behavior to know how to change it?Before I decided to specialize exclusively in separation anxiety, I fielded this question a lot. Many of my clients with aggressive dogs in particular strongly believed that I needed to see Fido snapping at visitors to successfully change the behavior. The case can certainly be made (as I did many times) that it isn't necessary (or ethical) to put dogs and people in danger and risk a bite solely for the purpose of observation. Especially when we can safely and accurately surmise why Fido would do such a thing and what the best course of action would be without pushing a dog past their threshold. But what about for separation anxiety dogs? As my special guest and mentor Malena DeMartini and I discuss in this episode, we strongly believe in the importance of an initial absence assessment before embarking on a home alone protocol. We take a deep dive in all things initial assessments: what they are, why they are important, and how to conduct them. In this episode of the Believe in Your Dog Podcast, you will learn: How we define an initial absence assessmentWhy we believe they are absolutely critical in establishing a baseline and understanding an individual dog's suite of behaviorsWhat specific tools are needed to conduct an initial assessmentEnvironmental interventions to consider prior to the assessmentAll things camera set-up and positioning, including my personal favorite camera for separation anxiety trainingHow to know when it's time to stop the assessmentWhat to look for and measure during and after the assessmentWhat to do and not do when you return homeAnd so much more! Jen found that reducing sugar and gluten has been good for all her family.Back in 2007, when her 3-year-old son began showing signs of a speech delay, a friend suggested that she try taking gluten out of his diet. At first she thought it was weird, but then Jen started researching it. So she decided to take all of the products with gluten out of the house, and the whole family started eating gluten free. Six weeks later, her son said his first complete sentence. With gluten out of his diet, her son started communicating. It was amazing! She also took sugar and gluten out of her other son's diet and noticed the positive effect on him. And then after a gluten-filled date night with her husband, Jen experienced "knocked-out sleep", as if she'd been drunk. She was cranky, she was irritable... as if she couldn't hold her eyes open. She could not function properly. Now her family calls it a "gluten hangover".Today the whole family is gluten free. Her sons are almost adults. They are fit, with a healthy metabolism, and they're doing well at STEM school. They are much more able to self-regulate and make (mostly!) healthy food choices. As for sugar, Jen noticed that when she eats too much sugar, her skin gets drier, and she has more cramps and hot flashes. During the pandemic, she and her family experimented with eating ice cream every week... but that regular "treat" made her body suffer. So she stopped that behaviour. As a professional personality strategist, Jen is an expert in the Enneagram, so she's skilled in creating boundaries and teaching how to respect your own personality when you make choices.Listen to Jen's inspiring story. In March of 2020, quarantine was brand new to the world. For most people, that meant spending more time at home than they ever had before. A natural challenge of not being able to leave home is creating a living space in which you can both work and relax.Something I lack in my living space is houseplants.I have only but one small aloe vera plant that a friend gifted me recently. When I polled my Instagram followers, I was surprised to learn about the way plants have contributed to people's lives. Turns out, I've been missing out by not having house plants. So I thought it would be a good idea to create an episode about everything plants. This way, we can all learn how to integrate a little bit more of mother nature into our homes. In this episode, you'll listen to a conversation with Enrique “Mag” Rodriguez and Michelle Alfaro. They've co-founded Maranta Plant Shop, the first Black & Brown-owned plant shop located in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. They amazingly started their business during the pandemic. Their plant shop is committed to helping people of color with their mental health by reconnecting them to mother nature via house plants. They've also made it a point to reclaim origin stories along with the original names plants were given by indigenous people. You know, before they were European colonizers renamed plants. Everything about Maranta Plant Shop is dope. If you're a plant newbie or you're a plant parent looking to level up in caring for your house plants, then you'll like this interview. We talk about all kinds of things like:Best plants for newbiesCommon mistakes plant owners makeWhen to repot a plantHow to propagateIdeal placement and temperature for plants in a homeAnd plenty more, not to mention their inspiring story of starting a plant shop in the midst of the pandemic. Enjoy the interview with Mag and Michelle from Maranta Plant Shop.Note: Complete episode notes with useful links can be found on the website.PS — Get some Coffee Talk-----Instagram: @luiscreates @enemywithinyouWebsite: https://enemywithinyou.com

I worship You, and I give You praise; You are worthy to receive all the glory and honor and praise. Today, I renew my allegiance to You, Jesus – my Savior, my Friend, my Lord and my King. I thank You for saving me Jesus, and for the forgiveness of sins through the victory of the cross and resurrection. Thank You that You triumphed over all principalities and powers and made a show of them openly. I stand in that victory today believing that no weapon formed against me can prosper.Jesus, you have all authority in heaven and earth, and I find my place in you. I bring the blood, sacrifice, resurrection and ascension of Jesus over my life and areas of influence today – over my home, over my family, my household, my vehicles, my finances, over all my kingdom and domain.· I put on the armor of God today. I put on the belt of truth – I believe You are the Truth, Jesus. Your words are true and I am in You.· I put on the shoes of the gospel of peace. By faith I stand, firm-footed, in Your ‘Calvary-love’ that forgives my sins, and I walk forward today in confidence to share this good news with others.· I put on the breastplate of righteousness. Protect my heart. I am a new creation and I have received the righteousness of Christ. I choose to ‘die to self’ again today and display Your righteousness through my words and actions.· I put on the helmet of salvation. Renew my mind afresh today. I declare my mind set apart for You and therefore I reject the insinuations, the accusations and lies of Satan. You have not given me a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.· I lift up the shield of faith to resist all against all the fiery darts of the enemy. Deliver me from evil and work in my life that there be no ground to give Satan a foothold against me.· I take up the sword of the Spirit, the word of God, and in the victory of Jesus I advance today knowing that the weapons of my warfare are not carnal, but mighty in God to the pulling down of strongholds, to the casting down of imaginations and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, and to bring every thought captive and make it obedient to Christ.· I break the strongholds of Satan formed against my body, soul and spirit today, and choose to make Godly decisions today, by the grace of God. I rejoice in You today Jesus; may Your joy be my strength as Your grace and mercy follow my life. Jesus, You are my Vision.*Adapted from prayercourse.org/toolshed – Warfare Prayer & Moving Mountains by John ElderidgeSong: God Is For UsWe won't fear the battle, we won't fear the nightWe will walk the Valley with You by our sideYou will go before us, You will lead the wayWe have found a refuge only You can saveSing with joy now our God is for usThe Father's love is a strong and mighty fortressRaise your voice now no love is greaterWho can stand against us if our God is for usEven when I stumble, even when I fallEven when I turn back still Your love is sureYou will not abandon, You will not forsakeYou will cheer me onward with never ending graceNeither height nor depth can separate usHell and death will not defeat usHe who gave His Son to free usHolds me in His love

This is an episode unlike any other...because today’s celebrity guest is pretty new to the plant-based scene. He has since appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live! and The Ellen DeGeneres Show and even performed live with Ricky Martin in Las Vegas.Today, William is the author of the book Champion by Choice, and he helps purpose-driven business owners uncover their unique message and leverage it through public speaking to sell out their stages, webinars, and live streams. In this chat, we talk aboutHow William sees what he eats as a determining factor to his success and performance in his businessWhy his health is the biggest motivator for change, and what inspired him to start thinking differently about his food choices (and I’m really excited for you to hear about that!)How he manages to maintain about an 80% healthy plant-based diet today when he doesn’t cook at homeAnd, he shares his vision of a plant-based future, PLUS some valuable wisdom from one aspiring vegan to another. For more about William Hung:Website: www.willhung.comFB: www.facebook.com/ChampionByChoice/IG: www.instagram.com/williamhungofficial/LinkedIn: www.linkedin.com/in/williamhungofficial/PLANT-BASED HEALTH PROFESSIONALS AND COACHES - learn how to build a profitable business you love while creating a big impact without slaving away on social media by joining our group at www.eatinglikeyougiveadamn.com/coachingFOR VEGAN-FRIENDLY RECIPES AND SUPPORT - request to join our community of rebels at www.eatinglikeyougiveadamn.com/group If you like what you hear, don't forget to: SUBSCRIBELeave a great REVIEWSnap a PHOTO while listening to the show and tag @eatinglikeyougiveadamn on Instagram and FacebookVeg On, Rebels.

He works alongside his wife to buy and sell more RAL's than anyone in their prospective state. Emmanuel trains and teaches at the Residential Assisted Living Academy and he is a sought after coach and trainer for all things “RAL”. He has extensive background in Health and Wellness, as well as experience in Investing and Capital Raising within the RAL world. Emmanuel has spoken across the country at many REIA groups, expos and conferences. Why would your listeners be interested in the topic of Senior Housing? The reality is that every one of us will have to face the fact that we will have to deal with aging and the need for care and housing as we age at some point. Emmanuel shares with listeners how they can participate in this opportunity as a real estate investor, business owner or simply investing in this fast growing niche. Here is the transcript for this episode: Or in this episode we're going to interview Emmanuel garena from the residential assisted living economiesAnd this is the all-in-onefinancial with billDriessen andWe discussed financial planning issues investing taxes estate planinsurance retirement planningAll those issues. Alright, thank you for joining us in this episode. Emmanuel is uh,He's a number one realtor inresidential assisted living in Arizona and he works with his wife andAny otherWell, I guess in anyone in in prospective stateshe trains and teaches people at the residential assisted living economies andHe's a coach and he deals with helping people get set up withRunning owning and operating a seniorFacility. Alright, let's go to the interview. Alright Emmanuel. Thanks for for joining us today. My pleasure. I'm excited to be hereAlright, it sounds like a pretty interestingField you're working in this residential assisted livingIt's got to be a growing field. Could you give us a little background on what that is? What what are you? That's usually one of the first questions when I say what I do, you know, I sell residential assisted living homes and people sayOkay, what is that, you know?So in regards to residential assisted living what it is when we think of an assisted living we think of a larger facilityRight a big building kind of like in a commercial parkWhat we do is residential style assisted living homes, right? So instead of a large building it's done in a residential style homeAnd the reason why we do these homes and we teach on these homes is because we can help a lot of peopleThat's the very first thing but secondly, they're a very good investment, right? If you're looking invest in real estateYou might look for a single-family home to do a rental property out of and you might make a dollars$200 $500 maybe but with a residential assisted living there's a lot of income potentialso just kind of in a nutshell for the listeners theaverage cost to live in an assisted living home in a private room across the country is$4,000 a month to live in one of those homes. So in our homes for an example, we have 10 residents in each homeso at $4,000 resident potential monthly gross income is40,000 the expenses for that home range between probably about 20 to25,000 for any given monthSo with that being said that one home can net ten fifteen twentyThousand dollars depending on that particular month. So that's what we do is we own those type of homesWe also sell those type of homes, but we also teach on how to do those homes at the residential assisted living a categorySo you're teaching people to go out and buy a home convert it to this facilityLike about how many people how many residents would there be in?typicalConverted home. That's a great question.
"When you move so fast, where do you find that still point where you can remember you have this incredible participation in life, that your essence is that of absolute inseparability from life, that is the heart of love, that is this incredible universe and planet we are a part of." In today's show I had the great honor to see this amazing author, teacher, and guide Raïna Manuel-Paris. We cover what it means to truly listen and relate, the inherent truth of our being, I read one of my fave poems that she has written, lots about Love, how our inner world affects our outer, and some amazing stories and myths that bring a greater understanding to the heart work I know many of you do. Please give us a rating on iTunes and reach out with any questions and if you need nay heart support! Enjoy the wisdom held in this episode. "If you can not truly listen without an agenda, if you cannot truly connect to the other person, if you cant really hear what the other person is saying, if you cannot see who they really are in their heart, in their vulnerability, then how can you relate to that person. How do you relate and how can you bring love into the equation." Raïna Manuel-Paris, born in Paris, France, lived in England and then moved to the United States in her early twenties. Her love of transformational story telling has taken her from an MFA in Film from Columbia University to a Ph.D. in Mythological studies and Depth Psychology. She is a published writer of non-fiction, poetry and several scholarly articles, as well as a documentary filmmaker. Her understanding of what gives meaning to daily life has led her to her work with dreams, and to include meditation practice in her classrooms. She also speaks on several subjects including “Love: Primal agent of change”, “War, Trauma and Spiritual Transformation”, and “The Major Arcanas of the Tarot as a Sacred Life Path”. "The Cradle and The Crown" is her passion. It is a unique process she has developed over time. With it she helps people recover their natural innate joy and claim a felt sense of inner authority. She has been learning the frame drum, the ancient drum of priestesses, and Natural Horsemanship with the great teacher and trainer Chris Sobenes. "To come to a deeper understanding of the Self, and our connection to the Mystery, and Magic of this Life, one must embrace the relationship between ourselves and the world around us; one must have the awareness that we are part of the Natural World, not separate from it." This is the placeIn the north-west of England. It’s ace, it’s the bestAnd the songs that we sing from the stands, from our bandsSet the whole planet shaking. Our inventions are legends. There’s nowt we can’t make, and so we make brilliant musicWe make brilliant bandsWe make goals that make souls leap from seats in the standsAnd we make things from steelAnd we make things from cottonAnd we make people laugh, take the mick summat rottenAnd we make you at homeAnd we make you feel welcome and we make summat happenAnd we can’t seem to help itAnd if you’re looking for history, then yeah we’ve a wealthBut the Manchester way is to make it yourself. And make us a record, a new number oneAnd make us a brew while you’re up, love, go onAnd make us feel proud that you’re winning the leagueAnd make us sing louder and make us believe that this is the place that has helped shape the worldAnd this is the place where a Manchester girl named Emmeline Pankhurst from the streets of Moss Side led a suffragette city with sisterhood prideAnd this is the place with appliance of science, we’re on it, atomic, we struck with defiance, and in the face of a challenge, we always stand tall, Mancunians, in union, delivered it allSuch as housing and libraries and health, education and unions and co-ops and first railway stationsSo we’re sorry, bear with us, we invented commuters. But we hope you forgive us, we invented computers. And this is the place Henry Rice strolled with rolls, and we’ve rocked and we’ve rolled with our own northern soulAnd so this is the place to do business then dance, where go-getters and goal-setters know they’ve a chanceAnd this is the place where we first played as kids. And me mum, lived and died here, she loved it, she did.And this is the place where our folks came to work, where they struggled in puddles, they hurt in the dirt and they built us a city, they built us these towns and they coughed on the cobbles to the deafening sound to the steaming machines and the screaming of slaves, they were scheming for greatness, they dreamed to their graves. And they left us a spirit. They left us a vibe. That Mancunian way to survive and to thrive and to work and to build, to connect, and create and Greater Manchester’s greatness is keeping it great. And so this is the place now with kids of our own. Some are born here, some drawn here, but they all call it home. And they’ve covered the cobbles, but they’ll never defeat, all the dreamers and schemers who still teem through these streets.Because this is a place that has been through some hard times: oppressions, recessions, depressions, and dark times. But we keep fighting back with Greater Manchester spirit. Northern grit, Northern wit, and Greater Manchester’s lyrics. And these hard times again, in these streets of our city, but we won’t take defeat and we don’t want your pity.Because this is a place where we stand strong together, with a smile on our face, greater Manchester forever.Because this is the place in our hearts, in our homes, because this is the place that’s a part of our bones.Because Greater Manchester gives us such strength from the fact that this is the place, we should give something back.Always remember, never forget, forever Manchester.Choose love.

Season 2 of the Pub Songs Podcast has now begun and I'm back with lots of new projects. Songs: "Middle Earth Bragging Song" by Marc Gunn from Soul of a Harper "Song for Her" by Melanie Gruben "The Old Copperplate/The Connachtman's Rambles/The Lark on the Strand" by Cormorant's Fancy from An Evening at the Fairfield Inn Notes: Irish & Celtic Music Magazine Finishing my Taxes Celtic Music Awards (Coming Soon) Renaissance Festival Awards - Now Open! Intro music by The Tea Merchants The Middle Earth Bragging Songwords and music by Marc Gunn We're the Race of Men,Conquer valleys and glens. We build huge towers in the sky. We're strong and we're bold,Though it be hot or coldWe'll fight everyone till we die.Oh, we'll never give up the mountain,As long as hope remains. And you will never seeA race as old as we... We're the race of DwarvesIn dark caverns we forgeAnd shape the ore that we mine. We're stout with beards,But give us a beer,And we'll drink to the gold that we find.Oh, we'll never give up the mountainAs long as there's money to be made. And you will never see,A race as old as we... We're the race of ElvesIn forests we dwellAt one with earth and the sky. We're the race first bornAnd our only concernIs how close to our gardens you lie.Oh, we'll never give up the mountainAt least until our time is done. And you will never see,A race as old as we... We're the race of Ents,And we're what was meantWhen they said there are shepherds to trees. We've been stuffy and slowSince our women left homeAnd many of us have fallen asleep. But we'll never give up the mountain. Our trees are there to defend. And you will never seeA race as old as trees... I am Tom Bombadill.I can never stand still. There's too many Creatures to see.I've many songs to singAnd a wife in the streamSo whistle a diddle-diddle to call me.Oh, I'll never give up the mountain.Or say I'm the oldest alive. For you'll probably seeA hobbit climbing a tree...And it won't even matter diddle [whistle]And it won't even matter diddle [whistle]And it won't even matter diddle [whistle] ... how high!
