Menda je prva mehanična stolpna ura na utež omenjena v 14. stoletju v Dantejevi Božanskim komediji … Njen izumitelj ni znan. Znano pa je, da je v Sloveniji pred sedmimi desetletji stekla prva serijska proizvodnja stenskih ur in to v Lipnici pri Kropi. Tistih, ki danes znajo z urami, ni več prav veliko. Danes poskusimo najti enotno teorijo polja. Se pravi sistem, ki bi povezal, razložil in posledično razrešil vse naše travme, težave in tegobe. Odgovor je čisto preprost: »zapori«! Ni skrivnost, da si polovica Slovencev želi drugo polovico videti za rešetkami in nekaterim v tej državi dejansko uspe, da so obsojeni na zaporno kazen. A zadnje tedne nas je dosegla novica, da so slovenski zapori prezasedeni. Oziroma prenapolnjeni. Njihove kapacitete so zapolnjene 130-odstotno. Če se bo na sodiščih kaj izcimilo iz afere TEŠ 6, pa se bo ta številka povzpela na 150-odstotno prezasedenost, s tem, da bo v zapore prišlo kar nekaj obsojencev s posebnimi potrebami. Ne drezajmo preveč v občutljivo področje penologije in se po butalsko vprašajmo: »Ali je za prenatrpanost krivo preveliko število kriminalcev, ali premajhno število zaporov?« Eno je gotovo; število zapornikov bi dramatično znižali, če bi bili tako državljani Slovenije kot tudi tujci, ki nas obiskujejo ali pri nas živijo, bolj pošteni. Poštenost je najenostavnejša rešitev za prezasedenost zaporov. A ker ni znakov, ki bi kazali na množično dekriminalizacijo, smo skozi javna občila celo tisti, ki smo zunaj, ujeti v 130-odstotno prezasedenost. Tisti, ki so notri, pa sploh. In ker vemo, da bi bilo potrebnih 30 odstotkov manj zapornikov za 100-odstotno napolnjenost kapacitet, je mogoče trenutno stisko rešiti samo z novimi zapori. Eden takšnih se bo v kratkem odprl na Dobrunjah, saj so ljubljanske zaporniške in priporniške kapacitete presežene dvakratno in upajmo, da se županu Jankoviču ne bo zgodilo enako, kot se je njega dni koprskemu županu Popoviču, ki je takrat novi koprski zapor svečano odprl od znotraj. Kakorkoli; za prenapolnjenost zaporov je menda v veliki meri kriva migrantska kriza, saj se je povečalo število ilegalnih prehodov meje – kar je znotraj schengena nekoliko disfunkcionalna novica. Vse našteto so gola dejstva in v teh zaostrenih razmerah so se odzvali na ministrstvu za pravosodje. Kajti ne le, da ni zaporov, tudi pravosodnih policistov, se pravi ljudi, ki zapornike čuvajo, ni. Menda imajo preslabe plače. Logika slehernika ob tem vprašanju je precej preprosta. V državi, kjer so stanovanja za mlade samo predvolilna floskula, je zgraditi javno nepremičnino, se pravi zapor, praktično nemogoče. Ampak ker jim je v Ljubljani to uspelo, bo zapornik v Dobrunjah bival v celici, za katero bi študent z veseljem plačal 400 evrov plus stroške. Mlada družina recimo bi se dala za »dobrunjsko« ljubljansko kvadraturo mirno zapreti. Družba, ki jo bolj skrbi prezasedenost zaporov kot prezasedenost študentskih domov, ni na najbolj veseli poti. Kar pa spet ne pomeni, da v nekaterih študentskih domovih ne bi potrebovali pravosodnih policistov, da čuvajo tam stanujoče … Povedano še drugače. Karkoli se v naši državi že začne, se vedno na konča na ljubljanskem nepremičninskem trgu. Ker torej kazenske sankcije na nepremičninskem trgu nimajo možnosti, je ministrica Katič naklonjena bolj kreativni rešitvi, ki ne zahteva krmljenja gradbenih baronov z javnim denarjem. »I, če so zapori prepolni, pač spustimo nekaj zapornikov!« Z novelo v zakonodaji o prestajanju kazenskih sankcij bi omogočili, da bi lahko bili določeni zaporniki predčasno izpuščeni iz zapora. Seveda le tisti, ki niso nevarni za družbo; kar nas kot javnost postavlja pred manjšo dilemo, ki se glasi: »Če niso nevarni za družbo, čemu so sploh pristali zaporu?« Novela bo ob možnosti predčasnega izpusta iz zapora dodala tudi novo krajšo formulacijo pri izreku zaporne kazni, ki se je bodo morali odslej držati sodniki. Začne se sicer klasično: »V imenu ljudstva«, konča pa se: »Obsojeni ste na pet let, razen če bo v zaporu gužva!« Otežene bivalne in prostorske razmere v slovenskih zaporih so po naših informacijah v dobršni meri spremenile tudi način obrambe, ki jo uporabljajo odvetniki slovenskih nepridipravov. Zdaj nič več ne iščejo alibijev, ali se sklicujejo na demenco svojih strank, ali pa valijo krivdo na pozabljive tajnice … Po novem so opremljeni z zdravniškimi potrdili, ki zahtevajo, da se mora obsojencu za njegovo mentalno zdravje v zaporu omogočiti vadba bobnov, ali pa vsakodnevna joga, ki od osme do devete zjutraj in od sedemnajste do osemnajste popoldne zahteva pet kvadratov prostora. Sodniki takšne obtožence raje pošljejo domov, kot da še povečujejo gnečo v zaporih. Je pa tudi res, da bomo morali pogledati točno noter v narodov DNK … Kaj se plete med Slovenci in prezasedenostjo. Vsa javna infrastruktura je prezasedena; bolnišnice, domovi za ostarele, zapori, vrtci, šole, avtoceste, morska obala, hoteli in koncerti hrvaških pevcev. Ker nas je živih še kar nekaj generacij, ki smo skusile in preživele prezasedenost vojaških spalnic, planinskih koč, delavskih avtobusov in nogometnih stadionov, bi si upali trditi, da gre pri prezasedenosti zaporov bolj za kaprico, kot za resnični problem ...
Piše Milan Vogel, bere Bernard Stramič. Zgodovinarka dr. Mateja Ratej, sodelavka Inštituta za kulturno zgodovino ZRC SAZU, preučuje predvsem družbene razmere med svetovnima vojnama in najvplivnejše nosilce takratnega dogajanja. Ob pisanju monografije o dr. Antonu Korošcu, predsedniku Slovenske ljudske stranke in tako najvplivnejšem človeku v katoliški cerkvi, ki je držala roko nad večino slovenskega prebivalstva, jo je posebej pritegnilo žensko nasilje v štajerskih kočarskih družinah med svetovnima vojna, kakor je tudi podnaslovila svojo monografijo Rožengrunt. Delo ima tako po vsebini kot po naslovu veliko skupnega s pesniško zbirko Daneta Zajca Rožengruntar iz leta 1975. Menda naj bi bila to žival s človeškimi lastnostmi. Lahko pa bi bil tudi človek z živalskimi lastnostmi. Na podlagi sodnih spisov, hranjenih v arhivu mariborskega in delno murskosoboškega okrajnega sodišča, in nekaterih drugih virov je rekonstruirala okrog trideset umorov, ki so se na območju Slovenskih goric, Haloz in okolice Maribora zgodili med kmečkim delavstvom, znanim pod imeni kočarji, viničarji in bajtarji, v Slovenskih goricah želarji, v Halozah gormani in Prlekiji kajžarji. Glavni vzrok za umore so bile večinoma življenjske razmere. Kmečki delavci brez lastne zemlje, po agrarni reformi pa so je dobili največ 1,5 ha, kar nikakor ni bilo dovolj za preživetje zelo številnih družin, so bili ekonomsko odvisni od bogatih lastnikov v mestih. Veliko kočarskih deklet se je zato poročilo s precej starejšimi moškimi, ki so imeli zemljo, nato pa so se jih na različne načine poskušale čimprej rešiti. Ena že leto dni po poroki. Načini so bili kruti – od gnojnih vil, motik, železnih palic in drugega orodja do zastrupljanja z arzenikom, ki so ga uporabljali kot strup proti mišim in podganam in so ga zato imenovali mišnica. Znani so primeri, ko so materi pri umoru pomagali tudi otroci. Teh pa je bilo v kakšni družini tudi tri vrste. Poleg zelo težkih življenjskih razmer je bil vzrok za takšne ženske reakcije največkrat nasilje, kot so posilstvo, pretepanje ali verbalno nasilje. Bil je primer, ko je ženska prenašala pretepanje, moža pa je pokončala, ko je začel pretepati še otroke. Veliko manj nasilja bi seveda bilo, če ne bi bilo zelo prekomernega pitja, zlasti domorodne šmarnice, ki so si jo lahko privoščili, kajti sortno vino je bilo le za ”gospodo”. Pri vsakem nasilju je bil umorjeni moški prikazan v lepši luči kot ženska, čeprav je bil lahko hud pijanec, samo da je pridno delal, kar je bilo med ljudmi edino merilo. Temu ustrezna je bila tudi zakonodaja, ki je za enake zločine moškim dosojala neprimerno nižje kazni. Dr. Vesna Leskošek piše, da ženske ”niso bile kaznovane le za kaznivo dejanje, ki so ga storile, temveč tudi zato, da so to storile kot ženske, ki bi morale ohranjati podrejenost in odvisnost od moških”. Dejanje zoper moža pomeni ”osnovno kršitev 'naravnega reda', za katero ni opravičila. Vzeti življenje gospodarju lahko kaže le na njeno sprijenost in 'bestialnost'”. Zato ne preseneča, da je bilo ženskega nasilja največ po prvi svetovni vojni, ko so vračajoči se moški spet hoteli vzpostaviti partriarhat, kot ga je propagirala Cerkev ne glede na to, da so se ženske s prevzemom moških del v času vojne emancipirale. Bistvo knjige pa je zadela recenzentka Maja Širovnik: ”Mateja Ratej ne piše kronologije, ona piše zgodbe, ki si prizadevajo v sicer brezciljno kronologijo vnesti občutek perspektive in smisla. Rožengrunt je zgodovinska (in faktično preverljiva) pripoved o tem, zakaj so ženske odhajale z agrarnih območij in zakaj se jim tam, kamor so se priselile, ni godilo bolje. Pripoved o tem, kako so živele, zakaj so umirale in kako sta bila z življenji in konci povezana spolno nasilje in moški odnos do abortusa. In nazadnje najpomembnejše: zakaj so nasilje trpele, zakaj so ga izvajale, zakaj so v skrajni sili ubijale in kako v našteto umestiti njihov socialni (ter z geografijo zvezani) položaj. Pomembna sta ta zakaj in kako.” Monografija Mateje Ratej Rožengrunt tako prek nasilja govori o patriarhalnosti, prekarnosti in klerikalnosti v tedanji družbi, iz katere je mogoče potegniti marsikatero podobnost v današnji čas.

Menda povprečen odrasel človek dnevno sprejme približno 35.000 odločitev. Ne vem, kako je z vami, a mene je ta podatek osupnil. To je namreč več kot dve odločitvi na sekundo, vključno s časom, ki ga prespim. Res je, da v to skoraj nepregledno množico spadajo čisto vse odločitve, tudi tiste najbolj banalne: ali se bom stopnic lotil najprej z desno ali levo nogo, bom pil kavo z mlekom ali brez, bom odzdravil sosedu ali ne in podobno. Ampak vendarle: 35.000?! Številka se res zdi neverjetno velika. Menda samo glede hrane sprejmemo 200 odločitev dnevno, kar je spet osupljivo, saj si še jaz, ki zelo rad jem, privoščim, če štejem čisto vse sprehode k hladilniku, največ pet obrokov dnevno. Seveda vsega tega odločanja sploh ne zaznamo, saj smo si, če se v določenih položajih in trenutkih dneva odločamo vedno enako, iz tega spletli navade, rutine in železne srajce. Tako se nekdo navadi, da vsak dan vstane z levo nogo, drugi pa, da vse stvari opravi z levo roko, kot se reče, in je pri tem lahko celo desničar: v dobesednem ali prenesenem pomenu. Kje znotraj tega silnega vsakodnevnega oziroma vsakosekundnega odločanja je moja odločitev, da bom danes boljši kot včeraj? Menda ne gre le za eno odločitev, ki jo postavim ob bok preostalim 34.999? Upam, da sem si v letih, ki so me pripeljala do statusa »povprečnega odraslega človeka«, z vsakodnevnimi odločitvami za »še odličnejšo pot«, kot apostol Pavel v opiše ljubezen, vendarle stkal železno srajco ali kot bi rekel že omenjeni Pavel »oklep vere in ljubezni« (glej 1 Tes 5,8), pa da pri tem vendarle nisem zapadel v farizejstvo navade in rutine. Pobožnemu, kot sem, mi Jezus nekaterih vsakodnevnih odločitev kaj dosti ne olajšuje, kajti ko prebiram evangelije, berem, naj ne ve moja levica, kaj dela moja desnica in da naj tudi molim in se postim na skrivnem (glej Mt 6, 1-18), hkrati pa naj ljudje vidijo moja dobra dela, da bodo slavili nebeškega Očeta, ker da se mesto na gori ne more skriti (glej Mt 5, 13-16). Kaj zdaj in kako torej?! Kako naj torej ravnam? Kako naj se odločim? Post mi, vsaj kar zadeva sprehajanje do hladilnika, število dnevnih odločitev z omenjenih 200 oklesti na precej manj. Vse druge odločitve pa lahko mirno zajamem v tri NE, ko me Skušnjavec vleče v omamo, v nezmernost in napuh (glej npr Mt 4,1-11) in en DA, ko me Jezus prek mojih bližnjih vpraša: Me ljubiš? (glej Jn 21, 15-19)
Ana Kete je poročna fotografinja, ki je pred tremi leti in - ne nepomembno - v času vrhunca pandemije covida-19 odprla svoje podjetje v švicarskem Zürichu. V intervjuju pripoveduje o težavah pri iskanju stanovanja, eni svojih prvih izkušenj z rigidnim "švicarskim redom" (plačilo 400 frankov visoke globe oziroma celo grožnja z zaporom zaradi nepravilno odložene manjše kartonaste škatlice pri recikliranju domačih odpadkov) in o svojih bogatih izkušnjah z zares raznolikimi porokami, skozi katere, kot zatrjuje, spoznava različne kulture. Po več sto porokah, kolikor jim je bila priča doslej, je razvila tudi izrazit šesti čut glede tega, ali bo določena zakonska zveza na dolgi rok zdržala ali ne. Menda je iskrenost odnosa partnerjev tudi skozi fotografski objektiv prepoznati že na sami poroki.
Danes pa nekaj pljuvanja v lastno skledo. Ki pa bo kljub temu zadostilo higienskemu minimumu in žalostnemu dejstvu … če hočemo v ubogi medijski skledi najti vsaj malo vsebine, moramo vanjo pljuvati.Gre pa tako. Prejšnji konec tedna so slovenski športniki spet dosegli neverjetne uspehe. Prva mesta, zlate medalje in podobno. Še posebej so blesteli v najbolj priljubljenem športu v Sloveniji, vsaj kar se hladnega dela leta tiče – v smučarskih skokih. Blesteli so fantje in dekleta; blesteli ter leteli. Ali pa mogoče leteli in blesteli. In potem, na vrhuncu drame pod avstrijskimi gorami, ko je veter pihal premočno, Avstrijci, znani kujoni, pa so se spravili manipulirati tekmovanje in sabotirati našega favorita, jo je legendarni televizijski reporter zamočil. Menda je pregloboko pogledal v kozarec; jezik se mu je odebelil, običajno bravurozne metafore so postale nekoliko posiljene, smeh premočan in humor težko razumljiv. Vse to, kar počnemo ljudje, ko smo vinjeni. Najprej in na začetku; kdor je brez greha, naj prvi vrže skalo in nismo tu, da beremo nasvete iz priročnika anonimnih alkoholikov; sam bog ve, da smo tudi člani našega skromnega uredništva kdaj popustili pod pritiskom vsakdana. Ampak ker smo poklicani razumeti in analizirati družbeno stvarnost, se veseljaškemu prenosu smučarskih poletov ne moremo in ne smemo izogniti. Rečeno je, da so smučarski skoki najbolj popularni šport v Sloveniji, vendar to ni res. So drugi najbolj popularni šport v Sloveniji. Najbolj popularni šport pri nas je popivanje. Dušebrižniki ga imajo za problem, čuvaji javne morale za greh, v bolj sproščenih pogovorih, takih, kot ga imamo danes, pa imamo popivanje za šport. Nenazadnje se kar nekaj organov in udov med procesom pospešeno giba. In če razumemo, kako visoko na letvici rekreacije in športnega užitka sta popivanje in smučarski skoki, si lahko predstavljamo, kaj se zgodi, ko se oboje sreča. V kulinariki je podobno usodno srečanje le, ko se srečata hrenovka in bela štručka. Za povedano dobimo vsako leto dokaz, ko se množice zlijejo v Planico. Alkohol in smučarski skoki/poleti, so tesno prepleteni in kot gre za romanje, vrhunec slovenskega športa, je planiški praznik tudi velika maša konzumiranja alkohola. Ne gre za zlonamerno mnenje, gre za trdo dejstvo, ki ga vsako leto potrdijo pumpajoči reševalci. In zdaj k profesionalnosti; če je športni reporter med prenosom "domnevno" pribit, je to edino prav. Kajti samo zlil se je z vzdušjem na tekmovališču. Bilo bi čudno in škandal, če bi bil "domnevno" pribit reporter katere drugih športnih disciplin. Recimo plavanja, ali pa orodne telovadbe, oziroma kar je podobno resnobnih športov. Med smučarskimi skoki, ki vsebujejo letenje po zraku, čemur človek po naravnem ustroju ni namenjen, pa tako ali tako nastane nekakšen privid nestvarnosti, blaznosti, ki ga umrljivo človeško telo ne more doumeti drugače, kot z umikom v alkoholno omamo. Da je res tako, potrdimo z empiričnim dokazom – ki je verjetno napačen. Legendarni reporter jo je dobro odnesel. Njegovo "domnevno" pribitost so čez cesto elegantno pometli pod preprogo, kot je razbrati iz komentarjev, pa mu je večinsko odpustilo tudi poslušalstvo. Ob tem pa se spomnimo primera, ko je bila "domnevno" vinjena komentatorka notranje politike. Takrat ni bilo nobenih olajševalnih okoliščin; nanjo so se vsule golide gnojnice in čeprav je bilo opravičilo uredništva skoraj do črke enako pojasnilu ob zadebeljeno-jezičnem komentiranju smučarske tekme, je ubogo dekle potrebovalo mesece, da se je povzpelo nazaj pred ekrane. Če z različnimi vatli maliganske omame sodimo šport in notranjo politiko, je to sicer še razumljivo, če pa različno sodimo domnevno nažganega novinarja in domnevno vinjeno novinarko, potem imamo dokaz, da je nažganemu patriarhatu dovoljeno to, kar vinjenemu feminizmu ni. Ampak ne navsezadnje; vse to so skrbi bratrancev čez cesto, kajti kot je široko znano – na radiu takšnih težav nimamo, odkar je pri nas najpopularnejša pijača postala šabesa. In če smo že pri novinarstvu in smučarskih skokih … Kar nekaj črnila je bilo prelitega, kar ena junakinj na ženski strani skokov – Prevčeva Nika – nekoliko nespretno barata s sedmo silo. Sedma sila je, milo rečeno, užaljena, kajti če kaj, se pričakuje že od slehernika – kaj šele od športnika, da jasno, glasno, artikulirano in zgovorno odgovarja na novinarska vprašanja. In so rekli, da bi morala Nika na tečaj, da se bo naučila, kako in kaj se tej reči streže. Je pa še ena druga možnost; se pravi, da Nikini odgovori ne morejo biti vrhunski, ker so vprašanja nekoliko butasta. Hočemo povedati, da se še ni rodil govorec, športnik pa sploh, ki bi na butasto vprašanje dal smiseln odgovor. In resnici na ljubo – pa spet en pljunek – novinarska vprašanja na športnih prizoriščih – z izjemno športne redakcije Vala 202, seveda – niso ravno bleščeča. Povedano še drugače: odkar je prvi novinar leta 776 pred našim štetjem olimpijskemu prvaku zastavil prvo novinarsko vprašanje, se ta vprašanja, zdaj že več kot dva tisoč pet sto let bolj ali manj ponavljajo … Če pristanemo v telemark … Imamo tri možnosti, če hočemo preprečiti, da bi se jecljanje na ekranu še kdaj ponovilo. Lahko prepovemo smučarske skoke, ali pa prepovemo alkohol. Lahko pa preprosto zapremo Bangladeš.

Po tiho, kot bi nekako vzniknila iz ljudskega hrepenenja, se je med nami spet pojavila debata o evtanaziji. Iz nje odzvanja predvsem ena, zdi se, da povsem upravičena zahteva: da si vsak človek zasluži spodobno živeti in tudi spodobno umreti. Menim, da ne gre samo za »prijetno« nebolečo hitro smrt. Menda gre bolj za izogibanje trenutku, ko se počutiš vsemu svetu odveč, ko si pred ljudmi ponižan zaradi plenic, demence ali nepokretnosti. Ni torej toliko problem v prenašanju bolečine, težava je v pogledu družbe na takega človeka. Če je tak človek breme, ne pa dragocenost družbe, je logično, da je v primeru trpljenja pri življenju nesmiselno vztrajati. In res je tako, ne samo nekaj nezaželenega, celo nekaj sramotnega je zato postalo trpeti, biti nemočen, tih in negiben na postelji ali na kakem drugem sodobnem križu, nekaj škodljivega za družbo. Nihče pač noče biti odveč in v napoto, nekoristen človek, ki porablja čas in denar. Ob tej debati vedno znova pomislim na svojega v zahrbtni bolezni počasi umirajočega očeta. Bolezen ga je spremenila, močno, korenito, da ga skoraj ni bilo mogoče spoznati. Ne samo, da je nekoč krepki mož postajal vse šibkejši, ne samo, da ni mogel več hoditi, sčasoma tudi govoriti ni mogel več, vse tišji je bil. Počasi se nisva mogla več pogovarjati, samo še k njemu na posteljo sem se lahko privil, on pa je vzel mojo v svojo dlan in mi jo močno stisnil. Imel me je rad, čutil sem to bolj kot kdaj koli prej. In bolj kot kdaj koli prej sem ga tudi jaz imel rad, najbližje sva si bila, bližje kot tedaj, ko je bil krepak. Trpljenje je resda močno spremenilo njega, a še veliko bolj mene. Drugačen, mehkejši človek sem postal, bolj človeški tudi do drugih, ne samo do njega. Moj oče mi je postal vreden, dragocen, zlat je postajal, ko so mu plahnele mišice, ko mu je zamiral glas. Pa pravimo, da nemočni, trpeči ljudje ne morejo ničesar več storiti? Kaj pa vemo, če ne bomo v svojem življenju morda celo več naredili s svojo nemočjo kot pa s svojimi sposobnostmi, če ne bomo več dali, če ne bomo več ljudi česa naučili s svojim prenašanjem trpljenja na postelji, tihi v svoji temni noči, kot s prepričljivimi besedami … Morda si zato Jezus ni želel evtanazije, težko, hudo je dotrpel svoje življenje. Tako nas je spremenil – bolj kot s čudeži, bolj kot z modrimi nauki: povsem človeški je postal. Njegova najmočnejša pridiga je njegova tišina na križu, človeška tišina nemoči, v kateri je vzbudil naše sočutje. V njej smo mu bližje in on je bližje nam, ki tudi trpimo, in to je za vsakega človeka v življenju dovolj in največ, bližina, ki jo ustvarja edinole trpljenje. Zato nam je Bog najbližje, ko trpi. In tako blizu smo si v trpljenju in zaradi njega tudi ljudje, pa naj to čutimo ali ne.
Kamor vsi, tudi mi; se pravi, gremo v frontalni napad na slovensko zdravstvo. Zadnje dni javnost pretresa novica, da je celjsko bolnišnico zapustilo šest radiologov. Menda je to polovica tam zaposlenih tozadevnih specialistov, a ker smo analitična in ne faktografska oddaja, ki rada pretirava in posplošuje, verjamemo, da te dni radiologe po celjski bolnišnici iščejo z lupo. Kolikor je razumeti, so radiologi zapustili javni zdravstveni sistem zaradi tega, ker so odnosi na oddelku slabi, oziroma katastrofalni. In ker so se pred časom mastili z neupravičenimi izplačili. Ker toliko zdravnikov, ki bežijo v zasebnike iz javnega zdravstva, za svoj umik navaja slabe delovne razmere in pokvarjene odnose, sklepamo, da zdravniki sicer poznajo vse skrivnosti človeškega telesa, pa nobeno od skrivnosti človeške družbe. Kajti prepir in kregarija sta eni najpogostejših in najbolj uničujočih bolezni medčloveških odnosov in nekoliko nenavadno je, da se radi prepirajo prav zdravniki, ki naj bi veljali za intelektualno, moralno in še kakšno ost slovenske družbe. Morebiti je to zaradi tega, ker so na medicinski fakulteti pred nekaj desetletji nehali poučevati »družbeno-moralno vzgojo«. Kot kaže, samo Hipokratova prisega ne pomaga dovolj. Kakorkoli; moralne dileme slovenskega zdravništva celjskim bolnikom ne pomagajo kaj dosti in ni drugega, kot da bodo bolniki v knežjem mestu začeli uporabljati priljubljeno metodo, ki se ji reče »Selfi RTG«. Gre za fotografiranje posameznih delov človeške anatomije z mobilnim telefonom. Bolnik s spleta prenese aplikacijo, najnovejši iPhoni imajo rentgen že vgrajen, starejši modeli in tisti z androidom pa morajo z ostrim rezilom zarezati na bolečem mestu in šele nato posneti selfi obolelega organa. Aplikacija nato prepozna fotografijo, postavi diagnozo in tudi predlaga zdravljenje. Če je v državi, kot je to primer v Sloveniji, zdravstveni sistem na psu, aplikacija predlaga tudi alternativne metode zdravljenja. V primeru zdravstvenega sistema na psu je to obisk pri veterinarju, ki je že zdavnaj samoplačniški. Bistveno vprašanje, s katerim se v svojih zadnjih dneh in pred apologijo ukvarja zdravstveni minister, je seveda: »Ali še sploh imamo javno zdravstvo?« Če hoče slehernik k zdravniku in mu prijazno povedejo, kako dolgo bo čakal na belo milost, je odgovor, da ga praktično nimamo. Ampak dokler ga imamo še vsaj teoretično, se ga oklepamo kot utapljajoči se zdravstvenega zavarovanja. Na srečo imamo precedenčni primer, na katerem lahko natančno predvidimo potek dokončne privatizacije zdravstva, oziroma demontaže javnega zdravstva. Pred leti se je premierno in zelo diskretno dogodila privatizacija zobozdravstva. Danes je plačevanje zobozdravniških uslug povsem normalno in časi, ko si z zdravstveno izkaznico prikorakal k zobozdravniku, da ti je zaplombiral zob, obstajajo le še v pripovedkah očakov, ki to brezzobi pripovedujejo radovednim vnukom ob tabornem ognju. Tako se bo zgodilo oziroma se vedno bolj dogaja tudi z običajnim zdravstvom; pot do dokončnega zloma je sicer tlakovana z vsesplošnim obtoževanjem med zavarovalnicami, zdravništvom, sindikati, javnostjo in ministrstvom, oziroma politiko, a dejstvo je, da plazu ni več moč ustaviti. Ker je po vseh anketah zdravje za Slovenca najvišja vrednota, je nekako logično, da za najvišjo vrednoto tudi največ plačamo. Moramo pa zdravništvo vsaj malo tudi posvariti. Obrtniška je težka. Ne bo šlo tako gladko, kot gre zidarjem, keramikom in pleskarjem. Teh res ni, zdravnikov pa je očitno kot listja in trave – glede na to, da šest radiologov zapusti celjsko bolnišnico, pa je še vedno ne zaprejo. Če se iz Celja izseli šest soboslikarjev, doživijo celjske gospodinje živčni zlom in gredo na ulico. Kakorkoli; ko bodo obrtniki, se bodo morali zdravniki navaditi na konkurenco. Kot so se morali tudi zobozdravniki. Na vzhodu in jugu Slovenije je že dolgo nacionalni šport obisk zobozdravnika na Hrvaškem. Sredi Maribora celo visi ogromen transparent, ki vabi »kariesarje« na hrvaško stran v ambulanto, imenovano »Zagorje-zub«! S podobno konkurenco prostega trga se bodo soočili tudi zdravniki. Se pravi, če si bom zlomil nogo na Krvavcu, se bom po mavec odpeljal na Reko ali kam drugam. In zdravnik v Vodicah bo izgubil le pacienta, temveč tudi stranko. Zato predlagamo, da vsi skupaj stopimo na zavoro. Če pravilno razumemo logiko in pozive k ohranitvi zdravstvenega sistema, lahko svoje naredimo tudi bolniki s tem, da do umiritve razmer nehamo zbolevati.

Danes pa namesto globlje analize samo skromna čestitka. Danes namreč praznuje naše glavno mesto Ljubljana. In kako ji lahko lepše čestitamo, kot z večnimi verzi: V Ljubljano, v Ljubljano, v Ljubljano gremo vsi Tra-la-la-la-la-la, tra la-la-la-la li … Zadeva je nekoliko nenaravna, ker si je Ljubljana za rojstni dan izbrala praznik že sam po sebi. In to ne katerikoli praznik, temveč dan Evrope ali pač Dan zmage, skratka dan, ko praznujemo zmago nad nacifašizmom in istočasno zmago ljubljanskega nepremičninskega trga. Kar druga mesta po Sloveniji, ki imajo rojstne dneve na brezvezne datume, ko so si pred tridesetimi leti lokalni veljaki sestavili svojo občino, že na začetku postavlja v neenakopravni položaj. Za Ljubljano pač najboljše, pa čeprav gre za praznike. Podobno, kot če bi si Kranj za svoj praznik izbral prvi januar, pa se nato hvalil naokoli, kako so vsi navdušeni, da streljajo ognjemet v zrak in podobno. Ampak Ljubljana je tu in njen večni župan je tu in zmagovita Evropa je tu. Na prvi in celo na drugi pogled nimata vstajajoča turistična atrakcija nekoč provincialnega dela Evrope in celina kot taka nič skupnega in sta praznika – v enem primeru birokratska odločitev, v drugem pa zgodovinsko dejstvo; a po premisleku se vendar najde nekaj vzporednic, ki praznovanju dajo smisel in globlji pomen: tako v Evropo kot v Ljubljano si želi več ljudi, kot ju lahko sprejmeta. Najprej Ljubljana; saj ne gre samo za do absurda pripeljano slovensko umetnost centralizacije, temveč gre tudi za povsem praktičen razlog. V mesto je ob določenih jutranjih urah ali ob določenih vremenskih konstelacijah nemogoče priti in nato popoldne iz mesta nemogoče oditi. Urbana nebesa tako živi samo nekaj sto blaženih, ki stanujejo v strogem središču, vsi ostali smo ujetniki prometa. Kot Rodinovi kipi se negibno pomikamo proti središču. "Od zore do mraka, od mraka do dne ...!" Predlog, da bi za vožnjo v središču mesta plačevali poseben prispevek, in podražitev parkiranj, ki sledi v kratkem, so le delni pokazatelj prav smešnih razmer v mestu. Menda so prometni, v novoreku se pravi "mobilni" infarkti stalnica v vseh velikih mestih, a govorimo o megapolisih, kjer se naokoli podijo milijoni. Ljubljana pa je še vedno provincialno mestece, ki se ga da mobilno, trajnostno in še kako drugače urejati z zdravo pametjo, dobro voljo, strpnostjo in strateškim premislekom. Če k temu pridjamo še očitno blaznost ljubljanskih nepremičninarjev, tradicionalni pohod ob žici ob prazniku nekako izgublja simbolni pomen, temveč postaja ponovno povsem praktičen pokazatelj mesta, ki bolj izključuje kot vključuje. Pa ne, da se za vsem tem skriva kakšen zarotniški mecen … Gre za golo aritmetiko. Ljubljana ne infrastrukturno, ne upravno, ne socialno in še najmanj politično ni več kos nalogi, pred katero jo je postavila na novo odkrita slovenska ambicioznost. Mesto, v katerem je glavna preokupacija meščanov, kako gospo mamo spraviti v dom, težko zmaguje v čemerkoli. Ob koncu pa velja čestitka še Evropi. Ki tudi praznuje. Migracijski tok, ki se vije v Evropo, si lahko na srečo razlagamo drugače od kolone na Dunajski. Evropa je še vedno najboljše, kar civilizacija trenutno ponuja. Česar pa se v Sloveniji vsi ne zavedamo ves čas. Kritizerski napadi, obsodbe Bruslja in njegove birokracije, primerjanje z Jugoslavijo in podobni protievropski pamfleti naj pri razumnem ne najdejo primernega rastišča. Evropa je za Slovence edina varovalka, da se ne skregamo do obskurnosti, in zato jo je modro slaviti – mogoče celo bolj, kot si v resnici zasluži.

This week's EYE ON NPI has 100% on Rotten Tomatoes, it's the latest installment of the Wick franchise - and dontchaknowit - this movie is all about making rework fast and easy with the Menda/EasyBraid WickGun Dispenser (https://www.digikey.com/en/product-highlight/e/easy-braid/wickgun-dispenser), which will let you dispense de-soldering braid with the same ease and skill that our famous assassin dispenses with the bad guys! (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xSM_nz6gKOI) Solder wick is awesome for reworking any printed circuit boards. It's made of fine copper braid that often has flux embedded in it, and it 'wicks' up solder cleanly and easily. It's great for SMT, especially bridging on chips pins, and also is helpful for cleaning up through hole parts. Digi-Key has some great tutorials on soldering, including this one that covers fluxing, rework, wick and headers (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DJH7VLGJ4fs), one from Becky Stern with lots of wire-soldering details (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sS4v2hIFp9I) and a video from Shawn Hymel (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X3Rc1s6EpSI) on QFN soldering and rework with hot air. Soldering is a bit of a messy process, especially for beginners, and it's easy to make mistakes where there's too much solder. That's where reworking techniques come in! It's dangerous to operate electronics with short circuits, as somehow it always turns out that the short is connecting some high voltage pin to a sensitive input. For through hole components, we always like to start off with a de-soldering pump, also known as a "solder sucker" (https://www.digikey.com/short/bvrwtzjv). Pumps are great for removing large quantities of solder, but are a 'big hammer' - they're not good for delicate tasks and also because they use the internal suction to pull solder away from the PCB, they're not good for removing the last solder from a through hole pad where the component has been removed because air just flows around the solder. (https://learn.adafruit.com/diet-raspberry-pi) Once you've got the majority of solder removed, use wick to clean it up. Do this by placing the wick over the area with solder, then pressing the widest part of the soldering iron tip against the wick to heat it up and cause the solder to flow into the wick. Finally, cut off the used wick! OK, not too hard - but suffers from requiring both hands which means putting down the iron while you yank some more wick out, then set it up, picking up the iron, doing the actual wicking, then putting down the iron again to cut the used parts. In trenutno ni nič bolj modernega, kot so protestniki, ki se z rokami prilepijo na zidove galerij, še pred tem pa zabrišejo porcijo juhe v nekatera najbolj slavna likovna dela naše civilizacije. Poskus analiziranja nečesa tako kompleksnega, kot sta umetnost in okolje, in povezave med obojim bi izmučil in tudi je izmučil nekatere največje ume naše zgodovine, zato le skromen prispevek k temu z naše strani. Najprej in na začetku razbijmo oba osnovna gradnika. Se pravi, da večinoma mladi protestirajo v galerijah. Galerije so že bile prostor protestniških akcij; nenazadnje gre za svetišča vizualnosti, ki je zajela vse, kar se v družbi dogaja, kot tudi na nek način sodobne banke – saj je od vlaganja v likovno umetnost trenutno bolj profitabilno le vlaganje v ljubljanske nepremičnine. Torej mladi protestniki natančno vedo, kje bodo pritegnili pozornost svetovne javnosti. Potem pa je tu še metoda protesta. Zanimivo, da so izbrali lepljenje dlani na slike oz. na stene galerij. V enem primeru pa na tla avtomobilskega muzeja. Lepljenje je izrazito sodobna metoda spajanja različnih materialov. Menda so celo sodobna letala že v veliki meri zlepljena … Gre za izrazit napredek od časov, ko so se okoljevarstveniki z verigo priklenili na drevesa, ali pa so samo sedli na tla in ustavili promet … Če smo pikolovski … Za protestniško verodostojnost bi morali uporabljali materiale iz časa nastanka umetnin, ki jih polivajo z juho, se pravi, da bi se morali na steno pribiti. Kar bi imelo sicer še močnejši simbolni naboj, a je packarija občutno večja. Mimogrede; razumemo sicer simboliko za lepljenje dlani ob podlago, a mnogo bolj praktično bi bilo lepljenje podplatov. Lepši prizor in zato primernejši za galerijo so človeške postave, nezmožne premikanja med vsemi tistimi umetninami, kot so to zverižena telesa s odrgnjenimi koleni in zadnjicami, molečimi visoko v zrak … Pa še o juhi … Programsko bi bilo smiselno metati paradižnikovo juho edino in zgolj na umetnino "Pločevinka juhe", ki jo je leta 1961 ustvaril znameniti Andy Warhol. Metanje juhe v van Gogha pa priča o precejšnjem nepoznavanju likovne umetnosti. Kar pa je tudi osrednje sporočilo našega današnjega izvajanja … Planetarne onesnaževalce niti malo briga za umetnostno zgodovino. Oziroma so povsem neobčutljivi za sunek v srčiko civilizacije, na katerega upajo protestniki, da naj bi zdramil onesnaževalsko elito planeta. Protestniki menijo, da bodo s skrunitvijo kulture omejili kapital … Kar je naivno, da bog pomagaj. Kapital lahko omeji samo skrunitev kapitala, pa še to težko; hočemo povedati, da bi bil okolijski protest vsaj delno uspešen, če bi protestniki požgali kakšno banko, ali sedež multinacionalke, ali kaj podobnega. Sicer beležimo že tudi takšne nasilne poizkuse, pa to onesnaževalcev ni ustavilo. Ob tem pa imamo še nekaj načelnih pripomb. Protestniki se na galerije lepijo v času, ko Evropska unija sprejema zelo ambiciozen načrt nadzora toplogrednih izpustov … Ta nas bo že čez dobro desetletje oropal naših priljubljenih avtomobilov z agregati na notranje izgorevanje. Če razumemo protestnike, ki menijo, da je vse to premalo, bo potemtakem naša žrtev, ko bomo prisiljeni na drage, neučinkovite in z dosegom omejene električne avtomobile, zaman? In za konec še izrazito načelna pripomba. Protestniki, ko enkrat dobijo pozornost medijev, razlagajo, da so se odločili za napad na umetnine zaradi brezbrižnosti družbe do okoljske problematike; saj so državam, po njihovo, umetnost in slike, pomembnejše od življenj ljudi, ki umirajo in trpijo zaradi okoljskih sprememb. Ampak ravno v tem je kleč; umetnost, likovna recimo, je pomembnejša od življenj ljudi. Ker ljudje umremo tako ali tako … ali zaradi vojne, bolezni, starosti, nesreč, okoljskih sprememb – umetnost pa ostaja. In zato so jo tisti najbolj ozaveščeni med nami postavili v galerije in muzeje. Da bo za nami nekaj ostalo, kajti umetnost je edini upor zoper človeško neumnost, zadnja leta skoraj blaznost, ki ga imamo na razpolago. Sicer bodo protestniki, vsi po vrsti mladi, s hormoni napolnjeni zagreteži, to težko razumeli – a umetnina Francisca de Goye, ki je pribita na steno galerije, je milijonkrat intenzivnejši okoljski protest, kot je to mladež, ki se prilepi na zid ob njej.

It is Alzheimer's Awareness Month. So I thank you for coming on and sharing your story and experience. 00:22 Well, thanks, Karen, I want you to know that I'm very grateful for the opportunity to be with you. Because there's so much important information that people should be aware of relative to Alzheimer's disease, both for the person who was ill, and also for the caregiver. 00:41 Yeah, absolutely. And now many people listening to this podcast may know you for your service to the people of Wisconsin in the state senate, then you were lieutenant governor, and ultimately, the 39th, governor of Wisconsin. So like I said, Today, you're here to talk about Alzheimer's. So can you tell us a little bit more about the work you're doing as an advocate for Alzheimer's caregivers, and kind of how and why this is personal for you, and how you found yourself here? 01:11 Well, very soon. It I tell you, if if I go, my wife humane is now in our 18th year since diagnosis. And if we you and I go back 18 years, at that time, this disease could not be cured, delayed or prevented. 18 years have gone by and this disease still cannot be cured, delayed or prevented. So what happened was, because I didn't understand this disease, I made my life more miserable. For my dear wife, who was losing her memory, I made my life more difficult for myself, as well as for many other people, because I didn't understand this disease. And so I conclude now, that if Alzheimer's is bad, ignorance of the diseases worse, and when I say ignorance of the disease, I don't mean ignorance of the disease just simply by lay people, but I'm talking even the medical profession, I'm talking even caregivers themselves. I'm talking about churches and congregations and temples and so on, there is just not an awareness of this disease, as it relates to how it should be dealt with. Because you can't fight it, you can't beat it. And so if we can learn a little bit more about it, we have a better chance of having our loved one with the disease, living their best life possible. But also we had the chance of having the caregiver also receive their best opportunity of living their best life possible. 02:51 Yeah. And you wrote about this in a new book that is published this month in June, called my two lanes. So you depict your wife your wife's battle was with Alzheimer's. And you know, like you said, This disease is progressive. And the person definitely transforms from probably the person you knew into, into maybe someone else. So can you talk about how you dealt with that as, as her husband and as the main caregiver? 03:22 Well, first I dealt with it very badly, X extremely poorly. And because of that, we missed out on many moments of joy. What I tried to do in the beginning, because I didn't understand this disease, what I tried to do was to keep her in my world, knowing Lena, it didn't happen on a Wednesday, it happened on a Thursday, it wasn't the Joneses, it was finally, I got the understanding that it is important for me to join the world of the person who now is. And one of the most difficult, difficult challenges that any caregiver has, but which has to happen is what I would call the pivot. And the pivot is when the caregiver gets to the point where you let go of this person who once was. So you can now embrace and help the person who now is because if we don't, first of all, because this disease is incurable at this time, you cannot fight it. There is nothing you can do. And I found out that all of the navies, saline, and all of the armies marching and all of the liquor that's that's distilled and all of the beer that's brewed is not going to stop this disease. And so rather than how do we fight this disease, the question is how can we fight to give our loved one their best life possible? And so within that framework, then there's A number of things that is important for for us to understand about this disease and for us to understand about the challenge of, of caregivers. So as I said, one of the things I learned was to join Elaine's world. Then another thing that I learned was the importance of what I call therapeutic fitting. And again, look here, let me let me just back up before we go into therapeutic fitting, if we can envision a funnel, and if we put the small part of our funnel by your eye, and of course, because the funnel expands, as you look up, you can see the blueness of the sky in the hope of tomorrow. But what happens is, as the disease takes its course that funnel becomes inverted. And now the large part will be by your eye, and you look out and all you see is a little bit that then becomes the world and the life of the person who now is they are not aware of what happened five minutes ago, five hours ago, maybe five years ago, nor are they concerned or aware of what can happen five minutes from now, five hours from now or five years. So it's it's a different world. Now. When I wrote this book, I felt really proud of myself, that I had finally put some of this into perspective. And lo and behold, before we're ready to go on for print, I find a series of notes and diaries that Elaine had been keeping since her diagnosis. Well, I want you to know that we had prayed together. And we had cried together. But Never did I understand the courage that it takes to be diagnosed with this illness, and then that can continue forward. So as Elaine is going through this transition, and now we're here we get to therapeutic phibian. As Elaine is going through this this transition this journey, she asked me once, how are my parents? Oh, I said, Elaine, your parents are both dead. The shock on her face when she realized maybe she didn't say goodbye. The shock on her face, maybe even not attend the funeral. I promised myself I would never put her through that again. So then when she asked me the next time, she said, How are my parents? Oh, I said Elaine, I said your mom is just really doing well. She likes working at church and volunteering. Your dad likes sports. He likes it that makes me feel so happy. Well, that's therapeutic fitting, therapeutic fibbing joining the world of the person who now is now I want you to know that I tried this therapeutic good in the first year of my marriage, but it didn't work so good then, but certainly at this moment in time. But then another experience to give me a sense of this all 08:12 the feet, when he lanes still was able to be mobile. We were having lunch at the assisted living memory care. And we're talking and then she starts to cry. I said, Elaine, why are you crying? Well, she said, I am beginning to love you more than your husband. Well, I didn't ask her what's wrong with your jerky husband. I didn't do that. But I tell you what I learned. I learned that it is not necessary for her to know my name in order for our hearts to touch. And so many times, as I talked with caregivers, they become initially so distraught about the fact that their loved one may be married for 5060 years, children so forth. That person with Alzheimer's does not remember their knees. I would tell them understand that your loved ones mine is broken. And sometimes there's no more of a chance to have our loved one remember our names and a person with a broken leg winning an Olympic championship, a gold medal. And so we we just simply have to understand the importance of joining the world of this person who now is one one of the challenges of caregiving, and there are a number of them. But one of the challenges of caregiving is that you work so hard to try and help your loved one but here let me let me just back up a little bit here. So we go back 18 years. The First Tee lane. That was the girl I met when I was a freshman in high school. School, I fell in love right away. We dated and we went steady and we got engaged, and we got married and four children, and 13 grandchildren, now seven great grandchildren. That was the first Delaine, I would run for public office, you will be the hardest working campaigner. If I would lose, she would never let me feel defeated. She was everything in the world. To me as it relates to any good thing that happened. The second lane began to appear. As I said, some 1819 years ago, when she would get lost driving to and from places she had been going to and from for the past 10 years, the second Elaine began to appear when as a great cook, she messed up her recipe so bad that she would cry, she would be so embarrassed. So that was the beginning of the second lane. So now we get this diagnosis. And I took a marriage route to death to as part I'm going to do all these things. And when Elaine was first diagnosed, she was given the mental mini test. And basically the mantium. The mental mini tests is a simple test asking for example, what day it is. When is your birthday? so forth? Very simple questions. And if you scored 30 or above you would be considered Okay, pretty normal. If you scored 30 or below, what the situation would be is that maybe at signs of early onset, well, Elaine's test score at that point was 28. They say that the average person loses four to five points going down almost every year. And it doesn't happen, you know, arithmetic Li from 20 820-726-2524, it may stay at 28 for a while, then maybe drop down to a 25 and then stay at that point, then maybe jump down to 21 and so forth. Well, what is important here is that you then test it out first at one year, you lose four to five points every year 18 years ago, it gives you a sense of where Elaine's life now is. But with that understanding with the understanding that the mentee meant a mental mini test 12:42 goes down. What what happens to the caregiver is you devote your time and your talent and your energy and your love to this person. And you just step out thank you have this answer. And then what happens is you wake up the next morning, and it's a new challenge. Well, what am I doing wrong? So what happens then is you devote more time and more talent and more energy. And you Okay, flow and all of a sudden, no. So what am I doing wrong? And so I have seen many instances where caregivers develop this so significant guilt, that they're not able to to help their loved one no matter how hard they work, what are they doing wrong? But here's the other aspect that comes along with it not only the self questioning about what am I doing wrong, but the caregiver is also going through a type of depression, and also what I would call an unacknowledged meeting. So I had a dear friend who retired and enjoying retirement, had dinner one night, laid down on the couch to watch the baseball game. Tragically, he died massive heart attack, just gone. Well, there was a funeral. And friends stopped by to express their sympathy to acknowledge the passing of this of this wonderful person. And there was closure. So what happens in the life of care giver is that there never is closure. You see your loved one dying a little bit every day. You begin to feel just so horrible about your guilt not being able to do anything but you're also getting to the point where you're saying, My my my loved one is is leaving me and then that that grieving, you know, just does it's not acknowledged and that's really one of the challenges that caregivers have to face. And that is to face up to the fact that yes, you are going to be grieving. And you should acknowledge the fact that you're going through this grieving at this moment in time, then there's also the depression that comes with it. And knowing what is the future and worrying about that also breeds anxiety. And so you take the guilt, you're not doing enough, you're not maybe getting enough sleep, you're not necessarily going for the walk, you're not getting any visit with friends, because you're focusing and focusing and focusing? Well, I try and have caregivers understand one of the most important facts about this disease, and that is you cannot do it alone. I do not believe, well, first of all, we men are sometimes really stupid. You know, we're not going to ask for directions, because we know it all, you know, I was going to take care of Elaine and so forth. And I let my ego, my own self centered. passion to do Z to defeat this disease, I let that take control over what was really best for Elaine. Because I did that we really missed out some, some great moments of joy. And 16:34 at the time of diagnosis, the doctor said there were four things that we should be doing one of the two drugs, drugs called the Menda and erysiphe. They do not stop the disease, they just simply delay the symptoms. So that was point number one, point number two socialization, you do show to socialization continuing, and then also getting exercise going for a walk, for example, and then also a glass of red wine every evening. Well, you then got three weeks ahead and the glass of red wine every evening and four weeks behind and in the walking. But here, here's the the situation about not joining the life and the world of this person who now is. So I knew we should go for a walk. So in my mind, half an hour walk is sufficient. So we started walking the lane with say, all look at that flower Kimani lane, you gotta get this throw, you know, our look at the bird, no, come on Elaine. And so my focus was not on the here. And the now my focus was getting this work done. So I could go about some other type of, of activity, whether it's trying to work with my business at the same time, and so forth. And the lesson here is Alzheimer's is a tragic disease. We can't cure it. But we certainly can learn to live better with it. And so had I known, then what I know now, I would have stopped with the lane. And we would, we would have admired that flower, watch the bird, we would have even maybe even just stood in the sunshine for a while and felt the warmth of the day. So the life of a caregiver is extremely challenging. We have to know that we can't do it alone. We have to understand that if we if you want to show real courage and real manliness that is shown by asking for help. So gosh, I think you asked a question a while back and I think that that was about maybe three days ago and I still? 19:03 Well, I think I think what you have done is your as you were speaking I said okay, I was gonna ask that I was I wanted to talk about that. But I think what you did you do is you really clearly laid out some real big challenges that caregivers have to face and some really great lessons that you've learned that you've passed along and I know that those lessons are some practical takeaways in the book in sections called kind of what you said what I wish I'd known or what I would have done differently. But it sounds to me like if you're a caregiver, you need to check your ego at the door. You need to be present with the person you need to join their world. And and it may perhaps be a more pleasant or at ties would be a happier existence for not only the caregiver, but for the person living with Alzheimer's as well. And, you know, as someone who like we'd spoken before went on the air Mike grandmother had Alzheimer's. And I can only assume my parents feel the same way that you're feeling now that we used to always Correct, correct, correct her, when in fact, we just should have said, Where's where's your grandfather? Oh, he'll be home in a little while, instead of saying no, he died 15 years ago. And then, like you said, it just can make the patient agitated and confused. And if you want to continue to have those happy times, it's best to be in their world. So I think you really outline that very, very well. And I do want to go back to something that you touched upon, but didn't go into great detail, and that is Elaine's journal. Now you, you put this into the book, some of her excerpts where she detailed her feelings and emotions as she was struggling with this diagnosis. So why was that important to include those? And were there anything in those journals that surprised you? 21:09 There were a number of things. First of all, I wanted to put Elaine's words into the book. I wanted to do that. So. So caregivers and their families would understand this. Great in internal turmoil, being diagnosed with it, but still knowing your mind, then having my your mind sort of slip as I said, you go from a 28 score, maybe down to a 26 score, but you still think you're sort of all right. But then some days, you're not all right. But with her journals. As I said, I learned the courage that it takes to be diagnosed with this disease and continue forward. But I also learned, we talked about the pivot, where the caregiver gets to the point of letting go of this person who wants was to join the world with a person who now is the person with Alzheimer's also has a pivot. And it's almost by the grace of God. And that pivot is when the person with Alzheimer's finally leaves the real world and enters their own world. And I've got, well, let me just read one or one or two of her of her excerpts, of course, in the book, but I wanted to make sure that the reader would understand that the challenge is that that a person has with Alzheimer's, but also how important I was in her life as her lifeline. And I really didn't know that. And I think that if a caregiver understands how important they are as a lifeline to their loved one, they will take better care of themselves. I was lacking sleep, I was lacking exercise. I wasn't eating well, I was like, My daughter, Christine, gave me an article on moderate drinking. And it wasn't because she thought I was drinking too little. That's for sure. So but anyway, so with her excerpts, I want to give you just just a few examples of, of what what she's going on. So she starts off at when she was sort of diagnosed, she wrote a letter to her to your loved ones. And she writes, it wasn't until a few weeks ago that I really had to say, Yes, I do have Alzheimer's, I read up signs that indicate Alzheimer's, like getting overly upset for no reason, and having trouble with names and directions. But I still didn't think it was a problem for me. But in hindsight, for too long, I've been getting lost driving, having trouble keeping days straight, and difficulties with names and schedules. Still, I still felt like I could handle it, it won't get worse. But this morning, I started reading about the mid stage of Alzheimer's, in hopes of preparing myself better and realize I'm not very far away, that is most scary, but I have to accept it. And so also in some of these pages, she talks about how important I was to her life. She said, Please take care of yourself, for me as well as for you. So then, you know and again she is in a process of, of of losing her memory. And she's in the process of getting to this pivot where she loses the reality of life and goes into her world. But to give you a sense of, of the tugging that's going on within in her she writes this, she writes, I am not enjoying my role anymore as Marty's wife because of his Hammond concerns about My Alzheimer's, he doesn't let me be me. He doesn't let me go for a walk if I want to, or the other store loans, I used to appreciate him what I thought was concerned, but he holds me captive much too much, I'm going to try to have a second opinion because I really don't think I have any problem. I know how to drive or walk anyplace I want to, but he doesn't believe me. And I hate the control he has placed on me, I don't even think I have Alzheimer's, per se. And so we see that, and again, my my, we see a human being going through that kind of turmoil. And we think we could have done a better job, or I think I know I could have done a better job. And because of that I wanted to write the book, so that I could help caregivers learn, cope, and survive. Just I want to just read one, one more here than 26:01 that. I don't have the exact date on this one here. But she writes, I wish my Alzheimer's would dissipate. I'd like to be the smart wife and mother I used to be. Now I have to waste so much time just trying to figure out what I should be doing. without seeming as smart as I used to be. I need to rely on Marty for everything. And I'm very lucky, he continues to keep me life gets more difficult every day. So it's it's a bummer of a disease. And again, we can't beat it, we can't fight it. It's not curable at this moment in time, it can be delayed can be prevented. And so what we want to do is fight was our best weapons possible and that is to better understand the disease and better understand the world to which our loved one is passing into. So we can help them on their journey as much as possible. 27:02 And you know, According to the Alzheimer's Association, more than 6 million Americans live with Alzheimer's or dementia. And more than 11 people are their unpaid caregivers. So how can people listening right now support those who are caring for Alzheimer's patients and support the patients as well. 27:23 One of the best things and most important things I think a friend or family member or neighbor can do for a caregiver. Number one, simply acknowledge what they're going through. And that acknowledgement in and of itself is so important. Because people really don't understand one. And because people don't understand Alzheimer's, they they shy away from it. Now. I call Alzheimer's, not a chicken casserole disease. So hypothetically, I get an operation of my, you know, maybe a higher operation. And so I come home, and I'm laid up people will bring me a chicken casserole, I've fallen I break a hip, I'm recovering, they'll bring me a chicken casserole. Alzheimer's, people don't bring chicken casserole, we a person, a caregiver and their spouse may have had friends that they did many things over a period of 3040 years together as the children would grow up. And let's just assume hypothetically, that it would be camping and canoeing. So for 3040 years, they, the families did this together and the children grew up and so forth. And that was the bind holding them. That was the binding thing for them. So what happens is now the spouse gets Alzheimer's. And because the friends don't know about the disease, they don't know how to handle it, and they withdraw as they withdraw. The caregiver not only is trying to deal with this depression, this anxiety, they are grieving the guilt. Now, the caregiver is also feeling abandoned, abandoned by friends at one of the most challenging times. So if you want to help any caregiver, or even work on creating a dementia friendly community, we have to understand this disease and have to understand how we can best deal with the disease. But then, rather than saying, call me if you need help, because we caregivers won't do that. What we will do however is respond by someone saying oh maybe I could pick up medicines from the drugstore. Maybe I could go shopping for you or maybe in other words specific kinds kinds of things, or maybe even taking the person who was ill for a walk so that the caregiver can get some, some respite. But as I said, if Alzheimer's is bad ignorance of the diseases worse and ignorance of the disease by the medical profession, caregivers, as well as family, friends and neighbors, and if people can just simply, hopefully better understand this disease, I think at that point, they can be more helpful in people living their best lives possible. 30:32 Yeah, and thank you for that advice. I think that's wonderful advice for people that are, you know, in the community and in this fear of people living with Alzheimer's. And I also want to mention that there is support online@alz.org, and that's provided to the Alzheimer's Association, or by phone at 800-272-3900. So if people are looking for more resources, they can find them there as well. And of course, your book. Let's talk about that. My two Elaine's, learning, coping and surviving as an Alzheimer's caregiver release is June 13. So we're perfectly within that Alzheimer's Awareness Month and people can get the book, I'm assuming wherever books are sold. That's my understanding. I would assume that wherever books are sold, it's printed through Harper horizon, which is an imprint within HarperCollins. And one last question regarding the book. And this is a more personal question for you. Is it upon writing the book? Did it give you time to reflect? And did it feel cathartic for you? Did it give you any sense of closure around your living with a person living with the disease? 31:51 It certainly was cathartic with without a question. But I think that one, one of the main things I got from this book is much I wanted to do something to help other people not both through what I as ignorant caregiver went through, and also what I might be able to do to help caregivers help their loved one with with dementia live their best lives possible. And the because I think back again, on our past 18 years, and I think how it could have been easier, as difficult as it was, it could have been easier. And it's not a matter of getting enough money to fly to the moon and back. It's it's a matter of just simply understand some some some basic factors and, and dealing with some unknown quantities, but no, it was it was quite an experience to write that book. And I'm glad that we were able to do it. And I want to tell you that I'm grateful for for being able to talk about this. And and also grateful that I think, hopefully we're going to be able to help some more caregivers learn cope and survive. 33:16 Perfect. And where can people find you? Let's say they have questions they want to talk to you they want to get in touch with with you, what is the best way to do that? 33:26 We have a website. That's right, my two Elaine's all one word.com And guys should anything and I have been up until COVID giving talks around the country learning and really everything that I shared with you about what caregivers go through, I can tell you, whether it's it's Newmark, Minnesota, Florida. St. Louis, I don't care where it is, that is simply an overlay of almost every single caregiver as how they're trying to cope with this disease. So but I also wanted to mention you gave the 800 number for the Alzheimer's Association. That's a 24/7 number. And so there are going to be some moments where you're just not going to be able to figure out how am I going to cope with this? Well, if you give them a number, I mean, give them a call, they will be able to help either give you an answer or point you in the right direction. 34:32 Perfect. And before we wrap things up. I have one last question. It's a question I asked everyone who comes on the show. And that is knowing where you are now in your life and given your illustrious career. What advice would you give to your younger self, and that may be that younger self was that freshman in high school when you met your wife or maybe it was in the midst of your being the governor? What advice knowing where you are in Now would you give to yourself as a younger man? 35:05 Live in the moment. And we, you know, it's not only the fact that I didn't enjoy looking at the bird with the lane, it's probably the fact that I was too busy to take time to enjoy playing ball with my sons are too busy to take time to go to the museum with my daughters, and, you know, just, you know, being with them. But really my mind is someplace else worried about some other kind of thing over which I probably had no control over anyway. But I think to, to, to live in and understand and grasp and appreciate, and be thankful for the moment. 35:52 I think that was wonderful advice. Well, Marty, thank you so much for coming on the podcast and sharing, sharing this book with us. And so everyone, again, the book is called my two lanes, it is sold everywhere where books are sold. So I highly encourage you, especially and I'm gonna say this, especially for people in the health care profession. I'm a physical therapist, a lot of physical therapists listening to this, I think, especially for those people, because oftentimes we're with the patient, but we're not with the caregiver. And I think it's really important to get a full view of what the what life is like for everyone surrounding this patient. So I highly encourage you to go out and get this book and read this book. So Marty, thank you so much for coming on. 36:42 There. And I'm very grateful. One one thing, as as we, as we sort of parted company here, when I talk about joining the world of this person who now is to make sure that caregivers as well as healthcare professionals know and understand truly that you cannot argue with this disease. If when I took Elaine to daycare, and we would drive up to the door, and she said that she's not going in, there was no way that I would be able to with wild horses drag her out of that car so she could go into, you know, the daycare. And so it's a matter of redirection. So we would drive around a little bit. Some of the neighborhoods come back, here we are, and she would do that. Sometimes we would be at dinner, and she would reach across the table and grab someone else's wineglass. That's not yours. Put it down. No, it's Elaine. Thanks for finding that wineglass. If you wouldn't have grabbed it, it would have fallen off. And now we're able to give you Lena good feeling about being helpful, but at the same time, not creating an awkward situation. No, you can have that scarf. It's not yours. Well, thanks for finding the scarf, and so on. So, anyway, carry on. I'm grateful to you for what you do. In naprej je bilo v oddaji rečeno, da je človek najviše razvita žival. In še veliko pretresljivega je bilo povedano. Tudi to, da to svoje domovanje, ta prah, sam uničuje. Hja, prah si in v prah se povrneš. A dokler se mi to ne zgodi, se kot visoko razvita živalca prebijam skozi življenje. In že mi prizvanja neka druga stroka, da imamo neumrljivo dušo. Ampak tretja pravi, da smo se tega mišljenja nalezli v družbi in njeni kulturi. Potem pomislim na staro Ančnico , ki je znala gospodarit brez vsakega šolskega znanja in je trdila, da so časopisi navadne gosposke laži, ljudje pa da se »rihtajo po vremenu«. Nad njeno modrostjo strmim in kako je mogoče, da še danes velja? Pogruntala jo je pa sama; pač kot najviše razvita ... Mar ni zanimivo: ponekod komu ljubkovalno pravijo pridna žvalca in pomilovalno: ta uboga žvau. Bogve, ali se morda ta čas že kakih milijon let spet ne očlovečuje kaka živalska vrsta? Ostajam pa pri lažeh in pri vremenu. Laži ne manjka na nobenem področju, velja pa za naglavni ali smrtni greh. Čemur zdaj raje rečemo le grešna priložnost. Menda je eden od vélikih obetovalcev raja na zemlji svojim učencem naročal: Lažite, lažite, nekaj se bo že prijelo. Ni pa vedno možno oceniti, kaj je laž in kaj razgreta domišljija. Kdaj velja laž za tolažbo in ali to sploh je? Ali zgolj nekaj neškodljivega; a white lie, kot rečejo Angleži. Laž, laž … za moje pojme je gnusoba. Ob raznih poročilih pogosto pomislim na Ančnico. Ta je mami svetovala, naj me – jokavega otroka – pokadi z ježevimi bodicami. V njenem času je imelo pánanje urokov še nekaj veljave. Vreme tudi ni samo za vremenoslovce. Daleč pred njimi so se ljudje ravnali po njem. Vplivalo je na kure in na otroke. Glede slednjih imam šolske izkušnje. Ne le učenci, tudi učitelji smo (bili) njegov plen. Kar nevarno je bilo. Na šolski fronti gre največkrat za eksplozijo, na bolj zasebni pa za potlačenost, melanholijo, brezvoljnost, čemur pravimo zdaj depresija. Da ima en navaden oblačen dan tako moč! In da se vse to in vse drugo dogaja na enem majhnem prahcu v vesolju!

Glede na praznični čas samo na hitro in v nasprotju z našo maniro, nedopustno površno. Pismo, ki ga je pisal Janez Janša državljanom, je povzročilo povsem nepotrebno razburjenje. Ne toliko vsebina, ki je bila sicer pohvalna in potrebna – cepimo se – temveč način. Mnoge državljane je zaskrbelo, kje ali kako je Janša dobil njihove naslove. Menda kukanje v evidence prebivalstva ni v delokrogu predsednika vlade in ubogi Janez se je – prosto po vodji poslanske skupine SDS – že desettisočič znašel v preiskavi. Tokrat informacijske pooblaščenke.
Imeti, imeti je že zgodnja človekova potreba. Kaj vse hoče imeti otrok. Marsikateri tudi vse dobi. Zasut je z igračami in oblačili, z odraščanjem pa pričakovanja po imeti ne pojenjajo. Mobiteli in druge privlačne lažne potrebe obsedejo že prav majhne šolarje. Menda jih v šoli ne smejo uporabljati, a pomembno zanje je, da jih imajo. Sicer bi tudi po mnenju staršev veljali za zaostale, revne, neprilagojene in posledično čustveno prizadete. Za božjo voljo, tega pa ne! Kako zelo podlegamo okoliščinam in kako hitro odmislimo področja duhá. Sicer nikomur ne pride na misel, da bi dojenčka hranil s pikantnim paprikašem in malčkom in šolarčkom tudi ne ponuja ostrega noža. Zdravila za otroke so opremljena s posebnimi navodili in njihova vsebnost jim je prilagojena. Niti s kamilicami jih ni varno predozirati. Toda cepetavec hoče, in ko dobi, pričakuje nadaljevanje. Kako hitro mu podležemo! Na drugi strani pa toliko spodbud po: biti. Razlage in dokazi, da je pomembneje biti kot imeti. Ko jih poslušamo, smo ali ZA ali PROTI. Proti, če se mi zdi vse razen uživanja v uživanju imetja brez zveze. Če bi hotel kaj plemenitega biti, bi se moral marsičemu odreči. V napredni družbi pa ja ne bom obračal kolesa nazaj v zaostalost. Mar bi bil boljši človek, če bi spal na slami namesto na ležišču prestižne znamke? Kaj pravzaprav pomeni ta "biti"? Saj vem, da sem in da bivam. V predalu imam jedilni pribor, a ga ne smem imeti? Menim, da lahko lesenega, plastičnega, kovinskega ali pa zlatega. In prav ob njem izdam svojo bit, svoje notranje jedro. Ob zavedanju presežnega pomena bivanja, bi ne maral jesti z zlato žlico, vedoč, da mi meče v goltanec milijone podhranjenih ljudi. Pomen med imeti in biti mi mora postati čim prej jasen. Malo pozno je takrat, ko korak že omahuje. Takrat so tudi možgani že bolj otopeli. Ni druge poti do biti kot takoj stopiti na malce bolj raskavo pot in se utrditi v hoji. Modri vzgojitelji in starši znajo, zmorejo in seveda hočejo otroka voditi po njej. Pa mu na primer željo po mobitelu kot osebni lastnini uresničijo šele tam v 4., 5. razredu. Učitelj pa sploh ne opazi, da bi bilo prej z njim kaj narobe. Ni moglo biti, ker mobitelska izkušnja zanj ni bila edina družinska vzgojno-posestniška vaja. S kakšno žlico jemo?

Menda smo bili pred nekaj dnevi priča največjemu zunanjepolitičnemu dogodku, ki ga je do zdaj organizirala Slovenija. Dogodek so pospremile odprte nebeške trombe in glasbena spremljava piščalk ter ragelj, a vse, kar se je dogajalo za zaprtimi vrati, ni drugega kot uspeh – kot se spodobi za vrhunec našega predsedovanja Svetu EU.

Menda si vsi želimo, da bi bili zdravniki in zdravnice, ki bdijo nad našim zdravjem, odlični diagnostiki. In vendar je treba reči, da globina zdravničinega strokovnega znanja ali zdravnikova pronicljivost pri razbiranju in interpretiranju pacientovih bolezenskih simptomov, sama po sebi najbrž še ne zagotavljata, da bomo deležni resnično vrhunske medicinske oskrbe. V tem smislu je namreč izjemnega pomena tudi to, da nam osebni zdravnik navsezadnje zna na ustrezen, razumljiv in empatičen način pojasniti, kaj je z nami narobe, kakšno terapijo potrebujemo in kako naj se v procesu zdravljenja vedemo. To pa ni vselej preprosto. Razlaga, ki nekomu povsem zadošča, bo drugega pacienta zbegala, to bo omajalo njegovo zaupanje v zdravnikovo avtoriteto in tako bo proces zdravljenja potekal počasneje ali celo manj uspešno. In ko se sprašujemo po naravi razlogov, ki v komunikaciji med zdravstvenimi delavci in bolniki lahko pripeljejo do belega šuma, hitro ugotovimo, da so nekateri med njimi lahko čisto kulturne narave. Že če, na primer, zdravnica in pacient ne pripadata isti generaciji, lahko med njima pride do komunikacijskega kratkega stika; če pa pacientka in zdravnik niti ne govorita istega jezika ali prihajata iz povsem različnih civilizacijskih okolij – in to je položaj, ki ga v globaliziranem svetu srečujemo vse pogosteje – je priložnosti za medsebojno nerazumevanje še bistveno več. Kako torej preseči tovrstne ovire in zagotoviti, da bodo zdravnice in zdravniki dejansko lahko sledili duhu Hipokratove prisege, ki pravi, da so prav vsi ljudje, ne glede na najrazličnejše osebne okoliščine, upravičeni do zdravljenja? - Odgovor na to vprašanje že več let išče dr. Uršula Lipovec Čebron, predavateljica na Oddelku za etnologijo in kulturno antropologijo ljubljanske Filozofske fakultete, eno izmed možnih rešitev pa ponuja v intrigantni znanstveni razpravi Medkulturna mediacija in zdravstvo v Sloveniji, ki jo je napisala skupaj z Jušem Škrabanom z ljubljanske Fakultete za socialno delo in jo letos objavila pod okriljem Znanstvene založbe Filozofske fakultete Univerze v Ljubljani. Kaj pravzaprav je medkulturna mediacija in zakaj bi lahko substancialno izboljšala kakovost javnega zdravja, ki je na voljo v naši državi, smo v tokratnih Podobah znanja preverjali v pogovoru z dr. Uno de esos viajeros cosmopolitas e impenitentes es español y se llama Jorge Sánchez, autor de 30 libros como “Mi viaje a los archipiélagos del Pacífico” o “Encuentros con Viajeros Notables”. A sus 67 años nos cuenta sus peripecias, aventuras y anécdotas a lo largo y ancho de los siete continentes siguiendo lo que él llama El Camino del Viajero buscando lugares con “baraka”. Tenemos la fortuna de que nos cuente sus historias por el Camino de Santiago, por Egipto, Etiopia (y su búsqueda del Arca de la Alianza), Turquía (con los derviches), Rusia, la India, Japón, Perú o las islas Salomón (donde levantó un monumento a Álvaro de Mendaña). Mineva 30 let od 9. in 10. novembra 1990, ko je veliko bolj zaupno kot javno v Poljčah na Gorenjskem potekal eden najpomembnejših političnih posvetov kakšne vladne koalicije v našem prostoru. Menda sestanka ne bi bilo brez pokojnega dr. Franca Zagožna, tedanjega politika SLS in vodje kluba poslancev Demosa, ki je šele na sestanku samem razkril namen in edino temo srečanja. V ospredju je bil plebiscit o državni samostojnosti, ki se je čez dobrih šest tednov tudi zares odvil. O vsem tem in posledicah voditelj Stane Kocutar in gostje dr. Peter Jambrek, dr. Tone Jerovšek in Lojze Peterle.

The Solomon Islands are believed to have been inhabited by Melanesian people for thousands of years. Spanish navigator Alvaro de Mendaña discovered the islands in 1568 and named them Islas Salomon. The United Kingdom established a protectorate over the Solomon Islands in 1893. In the Second World War, there was fierce fighting between the Americans and the Japanese in the Solomon Islands campaign of 1942–45, including the Battle of Guadalcanal. Guadalcanal is the name that most Americans are familiar with. It has long been told by the native islanders that there are giants on the islands, ranging in size from 10 to 15 feet tall. They have very long black, brown or reddish hair, protruding double eyebrows, buldging red eyeballs, flat noses, and wide gapped mouth facial features. The giants are rumored to have been violent in the past, even eating the islanders. They are also rumored to be highly intelligent with a chosen leader who put an end to the eating of the islanders. They are also rumored to live in a vast underground cave system underneath the islands that supposedly has some sort of lighting system. Is all this really true? Are there 10 to 15 feet tall giants living under the Solomon Island chain? If so, are they intelligent, violent, cannibalistic? Are they all three? Are they even of this planet? Zakaj je včasih (ali vedno) tako težko nekaj izpustiti? Menda bo na oni svet vse nagrabljeno premoženje težko prinesti, a se ga kljub temu otepamo. Kot bogati mladenič, ki se je ob srečanju z Jezusom pohvalil, da izpolnjuje vse zapovedi, le bogastvu se ne bi odpovedal. Z nami je bil idrijski župnik Marko Rijavec.
Menda se ni težko strinjati z melanholičnim Jacquesom, ko v drugem dejanju komedije Kakor vam drago pravi, da je ves svet oder, a Shakespearov junak ničesar ne pove o tem, kako je ta oder pravzaprav videti. Je prazen, pust in brezobličen, da stojimo sredi njega goli in do skrajnosti ranljivi? Je, prav nasprotno, napolnjen z množico bleščečih predmetov, s katerimi se lahko brez konca in kraja brezskrbno igramo? Ga nemara stene, zidovi in pregrade prelamljajo v zamotano, labirintno strukturo, v kateri se vsak dan znova izgubljamo? Ga kratko malo določa nenehno menjavanje svetlobe in teme, senc in luči, menjavanje, ki simbolizira svetle in temne plasti naših vselej protislovnih značajev? – Zdi se, da vselej lahko odgovorimo pritrdilno: oder je pač takšen, kakršna je igra, ki se na njem odvija. Zato seveda ni nepomembno, ko oder življenja enkrat zamenja gledališki oder, kako je odrski prostor oblikovan. Umetnik pa, ki za to navsezadnje skrbi, umetnik, ki mora torej veliko vedeti tako o gledališki kakor o likovni in arhitekturni umetnosti, je scenograf. In prav njegovo delo smo pod drobnogled vzeli v tokratnem Kulturnem fokusu. To se zdi upravičeno vsaj z dveh plati. Najprej zato, ker ustvarjalnost scenografov in scenografinj v zavesti širšega gledališkega občinstva slej ko prej še naprej ostaja v senci režijskih in igralskih prispevkov drugih soustvarjalcev gledališke predstave. No, po drugi plati pa smo se scenografiji posvetili zato, ker je pred nedavnim v založbi Slovenskega gledališkega inštituta izšel Prostor v prostoru. Gre za pionirsko in prelomno delo, za prvo pregledno zgodovino razvoja scenografske umetnosti na Slovenskem od 17. stoletja do osamosvojitve. Njegova avtorica, umetnostna zgodovinarka mag. Zakaj Slovenci na Hrvaškem govorimo hrvaško, medtem ko se sosedje redkeje poslužujejo naše lepo zvenče melodije? Zakaj se vedno trudimo govoriti jezike krajev, kamor odhajamo? Tudi v Italiji, Španiji, Nemčiji in Franciji slovimo po tem, da se naučimo naročiti kavo in rogljiček v njihovem jeziku. Menda se podobno vedemo tudi, kadar oni k nam prihajajo kot gostje: rogljičke ter kave razumemo kar v njihovih jezikih. Je slovensko turistično poliglostvo zgolj samovšečen mit, ali je v njem kaj resnice?
Ameriški predsednik Donald Trump se je spet zapletel. Potem ko je na novinarski konferenci z ruskim predsednikom Vladimirjem Putinom izjavil, da ne vidi razlogov, da bi bila Rusija odgovorna za vmešavanje v ameriške predsedniške volitve, je več kot en dan kasneje, po hudih kritikah, da bolj kot domačim obveščevalnim agencijam zaupa Rusiji, te svoje besede obrnil okrog. Menda je v resnici hotel reči ravno nasprotno od tistega, kar je rekel. Nekaj dni po koncu svetovnega prvenstva v nogometu, na katerem so naši sosedje z osvojenim drugim mestom dosegli zgodovinski uspeh, so mladi tajski nogometaši, ki so bili prejšnji teden rešeni iz jame, odšli iz bolnišnice. Na svetu verjetno ni vrste živali, ki se je ne bi bal vsaj en človek. Pravzaprav je strah pred živalmi pogostejši, kot bi si mislili. Seveda so nekatere živali resnično nevarne in tudi z evolucijo nam je beg pred takimi omogočil preživetje. A vendar gre pri fobijah predvsem za neupravičen strah, predsodek do določene vrste živali, ki ni nevarna. Menda ima tega približno polovica vseh ljudi na svetu. In čeprav ne bi pričakovali, se nekateri bojijo tudi mačk, celo metuljev. Po raziskavah, pa tudi po izkušnjah biologinje in pedagoške vodje Irene Furlan se predšolski otroci najbolj bojijo volkov, kar verjetno izhaja iz pravljic, šolarji pa kač, pajkov, žuželk, krastač, pa tudi ptičev. Strahov ali bolje predsodkov se lahko znebite tudi v Živalskem vrtu v Ljubljani, kjer že 27 let pomagajo ljudem s to težavo po metodi, ki so jo razvili na Oddelku za biologijo Biotehniške fakultete in temelji na dotiku in bližini živali.
Gotovo prav vsi poznate strah. Menda se potika po gozdu in straši živali, v tem pa neizmerno uživa. Vsaj tako se godi z njim v tokratni zgodbi.
