The Most Rev. Sean Rowe is the Presiding Bishop of the Episcopal Church, and in a time of fear in the US and abroad, not to mention religious decline, it's got to be a big job to have. So we were delighted that he agreed to come and chat with us about his vision for the church (very hopeful!), his recent op-eds and the Episcopal church emerging as an engine of resistance (very overdue), and what he has to offer for our dedicated And Also With You listeners. MORE ABOUT OUR GUEST:The Most Rev. Sean W. Rowe was elected presiding bishop and primate of The Episcopal Church in June 2024 and took office on Nov. 1 for a nine-year term. In this role, he serves as the church's chief pastor and CEO. Known for his expertise in organizational learning and adaptive change, Rowe is committed to strengthening support for local ministry and mission.  He was ordained bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Northwestern Pennsylvania in 2007 after serving as rector of St. John's in Franklin, Pennsylvania, for seven years. From 2014 to 2018, he served as bishop provisional of the Episcopal Diocese of Bethlehem, and from 2019 to 2024, he led a partnership between the Episcopal Dioceses of Northwestern Pennsylvania and Western New York. Rowe holds a bachelor's degree in history from Grove City College, a Master of Divinity degree from Virginia Theological Seminary, and a doctorate in organizational learning and leadership from Gannon University. He has served as a leader of many civic and churchwide organizations and governance bodies, and as parliamentarian for the House of Bishops. He's also a husband and father to a twelve year old daughter. This is his most recent Op Ed, which we reference in the episode: https://episcopalnewsservice.org/2025/07/03/presiding-bishop-once-the-church-of-presidents-the-episcopal-church-must-now-be-an-engine-of-resistance/+++Like what you hear? The show opens with some numbers out of the State Department “purge” and Trump's long tweet about wanting people to stop worrying about the Epstein client list. We then look at those who were arrested at the pot farms on Friday and the long list of felonies are being defended by the Left. In fact, the Left continues to paint a world of make-believe, but they do so at their own peril. We then examine the basis of an Op-Ed in the NYTimes titled, “Is it time to stop snubbing your right wing family?” This gives me the opportunity to discuss what should really take place, rather than the nonsense spouted by the NYT. Economist Peter St. Onge discusses a report from Golman-Sachs stating our energy supply is on the brink and we need to stop investing in Green New Deal stupidity. New tech is great, but not at the expense of giving up on reliable sources of energy. We then discuss another NYTimes piece about who used the autopen to authorize all those pardons. It seems there is a growing view that none of those pardons are legal. This includes the J6 Reality TV Show hosts and Dr. Anthony Fauci. Finally, we close with the most ridiculous item of the day. It seems Supreme Court Justice Katanji Brown Jackson found it odd that her colleagues take their roles seriously. She was bemused to see how much they cared about follow traditions. If addiction is a disease of the brain, what does that mean for how we treat people—and how we write policy? In this wide-ranging conversation, Stanford addiction expert and policy advisor Keith Humphreys returns to the show to walk us through what neuroscience has taught us about substance use disorders and how that science intersects with law, public health, and politics. From the biology of craving to the limits of autonomy, we explore the tension between compassion and accountability, and what truly effective treatment and prevention might look like.Episode HighlightsWhy addiction isn't just a moral failure—and how brain science explains drug-seeking behaviorThe biological pathways affected by opioids, alcohol, and stimulants—and why some drugs are harder to treatWhat makes some people more vulnerable to addiction than othersWhy effective addiction policy must account for impaired decision-makingHow policy can—and can't—respond to the scienceThe promise and limitations of brain stimulation, psychedelics, and medications like naloxoneWhy prevention—especially for teens—is key to long-term changeWhat a more human, effective, and science-based future could look likeResources & LinksLearn more about Keith HumphreysLearn about the Stanford Network on Addiction PolicyRead about the NeuroChoice Initiative at Stanford's Wu Tsai Neurosciences InstituteNIH resources on addiction science and treatmentRead Humphreys' 2024 report on "The rise and fall of Pacific Northwest drug policy reform, 2020–2024" (Brookings Institution, 2024)Read about CARE Courts ( "New California Court for the Mentally Ill Tests a State's Liberal Values", New York Times, 2024)Read Humphreys' 2025 Op-Ed: "Does harm reduction still have a future in San Francisco?" The show opens with additional thoughts on White House doctor Kevin O'Connor choosing to plead the 5th and claim doctor-patient confidentiality. Unfortunately, that last isn't really applicable, and, as we mentioned yesterday, providing full immunity wipes out the former. Attorney Alan Dershowitz says there is definitely and Epstein file because he needed to use it to defend himself. However, in so doing, he had to sign a non-disclosure, so he cannot reveal any names. Batya Ungar-Sargon agrees with my premise that it's a myth to believe Americans will not do the work that illegals are doing. It's a fallacy that keeps wages down and hurts the working class. This brings me to a literary moment about Milton's, “Paradise Lost,” where Lucifer said he would rather rule in Hell than serve in Heaven. It dovetails nicely into a comment from Stephen Miller about the desire to flood the Western nations with illegals in order to crush them. Sean Spicer weighs-in on how Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson doesn't know the difference between writing a legal argument and a Op-Ed. While we are on judicial activism, another district judge has decided anyone born here from illegals belongs in a protected class and has found a workaround to the SCOTUS ruling from a week ago. Dollar Store 44 refused to acknowledge that the calls for blood in the streets is coming from his own party. Stacey Abrams spreads fear porn. Marc Elias is worried about the call to criminally investigate James Comey and John Brennan. This leads to a discussion over color revolutions. We close with three positive items: Trump is imposing a 50% tariff on Brazil, Marco Rubio is imposing sanctions on the UN's Human Rights Council Special Rapporteur Francesca Albanese and we just locked in a deal for the US to be Germany's single-largest provider of liquified natural gas. “He didn't say he wanted to die. He said he didn't give an F about dying. That's different.” — Victoria Camille. In this powerful and deeply sobering episode of the Detroit is Different podcast, host Khary Frazier sits down with Victoria Camille of the Coalition for Police Transparency and Accountability (CPTA) to examine the disturbing details surrounding the July 12, 2024, shooting death of Sherman Lee Butler. “Nothing about this looks like self-defense to me.” — Khary Frazier. Sherman Butler was killed during an eviction at his apartment on Manderson St., near Palmer Park in Detroit. He was tased by Detroit Police officers and then fatally shot by a Wayne County Bailiff—while recovering from foot surgery and experiencing mental distress. “We all have a story. Show compassion. Sherman deserved to live.” — Victoria Camille What You'll Learn in This Episode: Detailed Analysis of the Footage: Victoria Camille and Khary Frazier analyze the DPD-released bodycam footage, breaking down how the incident escalated—despite clear protocol violations. Critical Facts Revealed: The bailiff used a DPD-issued radio improperly. DPD officers did not follow policy requiring them to control the scene. Mental health teams were called but failed to respond promptly. Tasers were used on a person visibly in mental and physical distress—against DPD policy. A DPD officer read the eviction notice, an act outside of their scope. “Nothing about this looks like self-defense to me.” — Khary Frazier “This wasn't just a policy failure; it was a moral one.” — Victoria Camille After Months of Advocacy: The community organized protests, FOIA requests (led by Taura Brown), and weekly meetings demanding transparency. On December 23, 2024, a partial video was finally released. Victoria Camille's Op-Ed led to a formal Citizen Complaint, triggering a deeper investigation by the Board of Police Commissioners' Office of the Chief Investigator. Policy Violations Found: At least 10 DPD policy violations identified by the OCI. Mental health co-response teams were eating at McDonald's while the call was active. The bailiff continued to conduct evictions after the shooting. What the Community Demands: Accountability from DPD, Wayne County Prosecutor, and the media. What if everything you thought you knew about consciousness and the afterlife was about to change? Join us in this mind-expanding episode of "Our Paranormal Afterlife: Finding Proof of Life After Death," where host Simon Bown engages in a riveting conversation with investigative journalist Michael Schmicker, author of the groundbreaking book "What Comes Next? ". This episode dives deep into the intersection of quantum physics and the afterlife hypothesis, challenging the long-standing materialist view that has dominated scientific discourse for centuries.Schmicker argues that the rigid confines of 19th-century Newtonian science have historically dismissed the notion of an afterlife, insisting that only matter is real. However, he presents a compelling case that consciousness must also be considered material, leading to the unsettling conclusion that consciousness ceases with the brain's death. Yet, as Schmicker points out, materialists face a confounding dilemma known as 'The Hard Problem' in neuroscience—how does consciousness arise from the brain? This episode explores these profound questions and more, as Schmicker draws on evidence from quantum physics to propose that consciousness is not merely an epiphenomenon but a fundamental aspect of reality itself, opening the door to the possibility of life after death.Throughout the episode, we delve into near-death experiences, sharing fascinating personal near-death stories that suggest consciousness may indeed persist beyond physical demise. Schmicker's insights into consciousness after death challenge the conventional materialist paradigm, advocating for a broader understanding of spirituality and health. This episode is not just about the science; it's an exploration of the supernatural experiences that many have encountered, offering a treasure trove of evidence of the afterlife that could reshape our understanding of existence.Join us for a journey into the afterlife as we discuss reincarnation evidence, mediumship insights, and the implications of consciousness on our understanding of life beyond death. Whether you're a skeptic or a believer, this episode promises to be an enlightening experience filled with paranormal exploration and insightful discussions on afterlife research. Jess Sponable returned to the program to discuss his recent Op-Ed on NASA, aerospace and the defense sectors needing more entrepreneurs and intrapreneurs. While Jess spent time with us explaining what he meant when he and others advocated for more of these folks in management and leadership, most of our program discussion was a mega-example of the need for innovation in R&D, problem solving, financing and such. Over and over again he stressed the need for the entrepreneurial type for leadership, even within the government structure of public organizations or government agencies. Jess used his experiences in the past for excellent supportive illustrations plus he talked about the early 1950's, 60's and 70's history with commercial and military jets, X-planes and flight in general. He focused on motivation while making the point that entrepreneurial type leadership would serve to motivate people. We talked about returning to the Moon, Mars, SpaceX, Musk and Starship as examples along with Starlink. The Golden Dome project was an additional large part of our focus with Jess making a call for it to be space based in design, not terrestrial or Earth-based with Earth-based infrastructure. Jess explained why he said it needed to be space developed but he was not sure this would be the approach taken by Golden Dome planners and designers. We did talk about the degree of protection we would get from Golden Dome plus obvious security gaps that would not have such protection as mentioned by one of our listeners regarding ships and port vulnerability. Dallas called as we were talking about developing a cislunar economic infrastructure plus the Blue Origin designs coming up. Jess mentioned competing rocket companies including Stoke Space, Rocket Lab and Blue as the companies driving down the launch costs which he said was absolutely crucial to get below $100/lb to LEO. Toward the end of the program our guest was asked about progress in human spaceflight medicine. Jess spent a few minutes at the end of the program to go over some the information on this subject and talked about spinning stations and more but we must get the price to LEO down and entrepreneurial leadership was what was needed. Other topics came up including the experience Jess brought to our discussion by his earlier work with DC-X, reusable VTOL Launch, DARPA and the Air Force. Before ending we squeezed in a short discussion on his New Frontier Aerospace company hypersonic flight project which would enable west coast to Asia in a few hours by skimming across the top of the stratosphere. Do not miss this concluding discussion to today's program. Jess said he would return after their demo flight next year. We wish him and our industry great success in moving forward, including handling the political, budget and policy challenges faced at this time. The PRC now manufactures one third of the world's cars, sixty percent of EVs, seventy percent of batteries and utterly dominates battery supply chains. How did Chinese companies get so powerful so quickly? What can America and the West learn from China's rapid ascendancy? And what can we do to compete going forward?  Joining me today on the Driving wWith Dunne podcast is Kyle Chan, author of the widely read and highly respected newsletter, High Capacity. “I thought I was going to die and feared for my life”. Former GOP Presidential Candidate, John Castro experienced a chilling twist of fate. He found himself locked in a federal cell with Jeffrey McKellop, a Trump Supporter. McKellop is a January 6 rioter and former Green Beret from Virginia. Castro alleges that the intent behind this placement was far from accidental. According to him, there was a nefarious plan in motion: McKellop was to take him out. But what unfolded was not an assassination—it was an unlikely alliance.McKellop, captivated by Castro's story, found empathy where enmity was expected. The two formed a bond, one born in the crucible of confinement. Castro claims that McKellop was once a tool of political vengeance. He was moved by conscience. Donald Trump eventually pardoned him himself. But Castro's legal troubles didn't end behind bars.He asserts that he was blindsided during his trial—cornered into a conviction through manipulation and legal sleight-of-hand. One of the government's key witnesses, Linda Rivera, allegedly provided false testimony, manipulated by undisclosed forces. Even more disturbing, Castro claims that federal attorneys were aware of the deception and chose silence over justice. In a move to reclaim his narrative, Castro filed a motion on Monday May 12, 2025, to strike Rivera's testimony. This action forms the basis of his appeal as he seeks to overturn what he calls a wrongful conviction. In response to the unfolding legal drama, we have published a detailed Book and Op-Ed, to tell Castro's story. There is also a companion article chronicling Castro's full motion. It is available in The Neoliberal Journals (see link in reference below). It has been sent to be published in The Jamaica Gleaner and The Jacobin Magazine. It highlights his harrowing experiences and the questions it raises about the integrity of the justice system itself. This is not merely a legal battle—it is a political epic. During COVID, corporations blamed supply chain shocks for rising prices while quietly raising prices higher than costs, thereby boosting their profits to record levels. We know they did this because they bragged about doing it on corporate earnings calls. Economist Hal Singer warns that Trump's proposed tariffs could spark a repeat, giving corporations another “golden opportunity” to jack up prices under the guise of higher costs. He explains why tools like antitrust enforcement and interest rate hikes aren't enough to stop price gouging—and why failing to curb greedflation could carry a steep political price.
