Oaks announced that the Church will soon have the largest number of full-time missionaries in its history, surpassing the current 87,000+ serving worldwide. The surge is driven by the first wave of 18-year-old sister missionaries (following the November policy change lowering the minimum age from 19) and the addition of 55 new missions in July, bringing the global total to 506. President Oaks outlined three characteristics defining the restored Church: (1) the fulness of doctrine (including eternal marriage between a man and a woman); (2) priesthood authority and keys; and (3) a unique testimony of Christ grounded in modern revelation and the First Vision. New Hymn ‘Welcome Home’ — The Story Behind It Composer Andrea Brett explains how a 2017 encounter with Demetrius O’Neal — a recent convert serving as a greeter at a Spokane ward on a snowy Sunday morning — inspired her hymn ‘Welcome Home,’ now published in the new Hymns for Home and Church. Brett submitted 10 pieces when the global hymnbook was announced in 2018; this was the only one she’d written before the call. She received confirmation of its selection in February 2025, then had a full-circle moment when she and O’Neal sat near each other at the April 2025 General Conference as the Tabernacle Choir performed it. Family History Records Are a ‘Sacred Thread’ — Elder Bragg at International Archivists Congress Elder Mark A. Bragg, General Authority Seventy and executive director of the Church’s Family History Department and FamilySearch International, was a keynote speaker at the III Congress of Archivists: Digital Archive Expo (DA-EXPO), held June 8–12 in Astana, Kazakhstan. He called family history records ‘the thin but sacred thread’ tying people together across generations, and argued that records are ‘in a very real sense, witnesses.’ Elder Bragg framed the digital revolution in genealogy in moral terms: for most of history, access to records was shaped by ‘proximity, resources and specialized knowledge,’ but today a record created in one place can be preserved in another, indexed in a third, and discovered by someone on the other side of the world. ‘The reach is astonishing. The speed is breathtaking. The possibilities are almost beyond measure.’ He also said that ‘access is an act of kindness’ — records only fulfill their divine purpose when they are found, understood, and used. America Gives — All 50 States Receive Food Donations The Church completed a milestone in its ‘America Gives’ initiative by delivering a shipping container of food to Hilo, Hawaii — marking all 50 states reached. The initiative aims to deliver 250 truckloads of food nationwide in 2026 to celebrate the U.S. 250th anniversary. In Hawaii, the food went to The Food Basket, distributed to 10 local nonprofits. Notably, 42% of residents on the island of Hawaii face food insecurity — the state’s highest rate. Rosie Rios, chair of America 250 and former U.S. Treasurer, praised the milestone. Church Donates $250,000 NZD to Christchurch Anglican Cathedral Rebuild The Church announced a NZ$250,000 donation (June 19, 2026) toward the restoration of Christchurch’s iconic Anglican Cathedral — damaged in the February 2011 earthquake. Elder Peter F. Meurs (Pacific Area President) and Anglican Bishop Peter Carrell presided at the announcement. The donation comes as the project faces a $45M funding shortfall and an overall $219M budget. The Christchurch City Council has offered $15M contingent on government and Anglican Church matches. Notably, a New Zealand Buddhist community made a similar gift in 2023 — the LDS donation continues a cross-faith pattern of support for the heritage project. Todd Christofferson: He offered the invocation at Becket’s Canterbury Medal Gala in Philadelphia (multifaith event celebrating religious liberty), alongside Elder Gary E. Stevenson and others. The group also visited the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall — fitting, ahead of America’s 250th. Christofferson reflected on D&C 101 and the Constitution’s purpose to protect ‘all flesh.’ From Philadelphia, he and Sister Christofferson traveled to Toronto, meeting 250+ missionaries in the Canada Toronto Mission weeks before it divides into three missions (Toronto West, Toronto East, and Montreal). BYU Scholar Study: Religion Adds 7.6 Years to Life The BYU Wheatley Institute is releasing three reports analyzing 3,000 of the most scientifically rigorous studies (culled from 60,000+ papers by Duke University) on religion and health. Key findings: 33/34 studies show improved social health; 10/11 show improved mental health; 7/8 show improved physical health. Regular worshippers live an average of 7.6 years longer (up to 13.7 years longer for African Americans). A ‘landmark finding’: 256 studies show religion prevents/aids recovery from substance abuse (vs. 6 showing negative impact). Elder Soares Testifies in the Philippines Elder Ulisses Soares completed a two-week ministry in the Philippines (mid-May 2026), meeting with 600+ young single adults in Cebu, 450+ in Quezon City, and 340+ missionaries at the Philippines MTC. His recurring message: ‘His arms are extended to all of us.’ The Philippines has more than 905,000 Latter-day Saints — the Church’s fourth-largest national membership. Two new temples were also dedicated in the Philippines this month: the Davao Philippines Temple (Elder Renlund, May 3) and the Bacolod Philippines Temple (Elder Andersen, May 31). Peck has reportedly become the first Latter-day Saint author included in the prestigious Everyman’s Library series (publishing canonical English fiction since 1906). His 2012 novella A Short Stay in Hell — a philosophical horror story about a Mormon man condemned to an afterlife library containing every possible book — went viral on BookTok and found a new audience. In this interview I talked with the Senator from Wisconsin, Ron Johnson. We discussed his bombshell report called, Unmasked: How Biden Health Officials Purposely Turned a Blind Eye Toward COVID-19 Vaccine Safety Signals. In this report, Senator Johnson and his team reveals that many people within the FDA and HHS, among other governmental organizations, knew that the COVID-19 vaccines were linked to strokes and even death as early as 2021. Senator Johnson's team found conclusive evidence that the United States Government, the majority of American media companies, and the monopolistic Pharmaceutical Companies worked together to suppress the truth about the Vaccines and, in turn, killed thousands of innocent American citizens. For being one of the most significant reports in modern history, you would think that this story would be on the front page of every major news network and newspaper in America – you would be wrong. As judges continue to weigh in, President Trump is finding that despite his litigious efforts, he can't always get what he wants. Mary and Andrew begin this week with the latest fallout from his $1.776 billion “anti-weaponization” fund, which is now under judicial review after a group of federal judges filed a motion arguing that the original lawsuit that prompted the fund was “itself a fraud on the court.” This prompted the news, first reported by Axios, that the Trump administration would abandon the fund altogether. Mary and Andrew tie this into another instance in which the administration is losing in the courts, with Judge Mehta's decision refusing to dismiss the indictment of Oath Keepers' leader Stewart Rhodes, among others whose sentences were commuted. They then move to a ruling ordering the removal of Trump's name from the Kennedy Center facade, a setback in his attempt to reshape the renowned preforming arts center. And after an update on the criminal case against the Southern Poverty Law Center, Andrew shares some insight into his recent New York Times op-ed which offers a path to stop vindictive prosecutions altogether. Craig Unger recounts the investigative origins of the October Surprise story, which gained mainstream credibility after a 1991 New York Times op-ed by former National Security Council member Gary Sick. Working for Esquire, Ungercollaborated with fellow journalists like Bob Parry to uncover rumors of Republican interference in the hostage crisis. A central figure in their investigation was Ari Ben-Menashe, a rogue Israeli intelligence operative who claimed that Bill Casey met with Iranians in Madrid in July 1980. Ben-Menashe alleged that Casey negotiated a deal to provide Iranwith weapons in exchange for delaying the release of the American hostages until after the election, a clear violation of the Logan Act. Not because the idea has failed, but because its members have. They violate their own treaties, ignore their own agreements, and then pretend that the rules still bind others. This is the danger—when powerful states act without restraint, they set precedents that weaken the very system meant to hold them accountable.There is a story developing that China is planning, or may have already begun, sending weapons to Iran—an apparent violation of the arms embargo imposed by the UN. But here lies the contradiction: how does the international community hold China accountable when the United States and Israel have themselves violated UN principles? They have engaged in military actions against Iran and Lebanon, actions that have resulted in civilian deaths and infringed upon the sovereignty of other nations—without meaningful consultation with the UN.Russia, too, stands in violation through its war with Ukraine, yet it justifies its actions by pointing to what it sees as the hypocrisy of the West. It argues that the UN framework has already been compromised, that selective enforcement has replaced universal principle. And in this fractured order, each nation finds its own justification.Iran, under attack, asserts its right to defend itself. The United States sends weapons to Ukraine in the name of defending sovereignty. And now China may see itself as doing the same for Iran. This is the dangerous cycle we have created—one where every violation becomes a justification for the next.This is not just instability. This is how a world war begins.The United Nations was established to prevent a world war—to create a system where disputes could be resolved through law rather than force. But when its most powerful members act outside of its charter, when they refuse to hold each other accountable, they do not just weaken the UN—they dismantle it.The United States must be held accountable. Israel must stop its bombing campaigns in Lebanon. Russia must end its war against Ukraine. These are not optional demands—they are necessary if the UN is to have any meaning left.But the damage is already done. The precedents set by the United States, Russia, and Israel have opened the door for others. And now, as China considers its own actions, we are forced to confront an uncomfortable question: is China violating the UN charter, or is it simply operating within the broken logic that others have already established?When rules are applied selectively, they are no longer rules—they are tools of convenience. And when the system meant to prevent global conflict becomes a stage for power politics, then we are no longer maintaining peace—we are inching closer to chaos.The UN was meant to stop a world war. You can put new curtains on the windows, light a candle, and set the table real nice — but if the milk ain't clean, everything you pour it into is spoiled. Washington State made history when it funded the Charles Mitchell and George Washington Bush Reparations Study — only the fourth statewide reparations study in the nation. Our communities organized. WENA — the Washington Equity Now Alliance — raised nearly half a million dollars in supplemental funding from Pierce County, King County, and beyond. Close to a million dollars in total support. That's not government writing a check. That's everyday people putting their faith, their money, and their ancestors' names on the line. So when the Department of Commerce ran the procurement process to select who would do this sacred work — the community expected excellence. Transparency. Integrity. What they got was something else. In this episode, sisters Melannie and  Audrey connect with Dr. Marcus Anthony Hunter — one of the nation's leading reparations scholars and one of the unsuccessful bidders for the study. Dr. Hunter is the Scott Waugh Endowed Chair at UCLA, author of Radical Reparations: Healing the Soul of a Nation (HarperCollins/Amistad), the visionary who coined #BlackLivesMatter, inaugural Chair of UCLA's African American Studies Department, two-term President of the Association of Black Sociologists, and the scholar who drafted Congresswoman Barbara Lee's historic Truth, Racial Healing, and Transformation Commission bill. His work has been featured on C-SPAN's BookTV, MSNBC, BBC, NPR, the Washington Post, the New York Times, and the LA Times. He submitted a proposal for Washington's study. And then the system showed its hand. His proposal was quarantined in the state's email system as “malware” for 22 days while other bidders were being evaluated. When he was finally told he wasn't selected, the state denied him the debriefing that Washington law guarantees every unsuccessful bidder. Denied him twice. He had to retain an attorney just to access a process the law says is his right. Meanwhile, the winning bidder — a DEI consulting firm — was awarded the contract to do work that requires expertise in reparations research, historical accounting, intergenerational economic harm, genealogy, and public policy analysis. The community asked questions. Filed public records requests. And invited the winning firm on this very show. Their general counsel said they'd love to come. That was six weeks ago. Silence ever since. The milk ain't clean. This episode is not about who won or lost a contract. Dr. Hunter is not here as a sore loser — he's here as a witness. This is first-source, insider testimony about how the state administered a process that the community invested in, that the legislature authorized, and that our ancestors are owed. Ransome explains that media coverage often centers on underage victims while overlooking the many women who, like her, were legally adults yet manipulated, coerced, and abused over prolonged periods. She describes the pervasive “gaslighting” she faced from society, friends, family, and authorities who questioned her credibility, branded her with derogatory labels, and minimized the horrors she endured simply because she was not a minor at the time. For years, this skepticism compounded her trauma, making recovery even more difficult and isolating her from support.Ransome also reflects on the catharsis of hearing Ghislaine Maxwell's shackles at sentencing and finally reading her impact statement in court, which she views as a significant step toward reclaiming her voice and self-worth. She emphasizes that justice remains incomplete while powerful enablers and institutions that allowed Epstein and Maxwell to operate with impunity have not been fully held accountable. THE ORIGINS OF THE INVESTIGATION AND THE ALLEGATIONS OF ARI BEN-MENASHE Colleague Craig Unger. Unger details how the "October Surprise" investigation began, sparked by a 1991 op-ed from former National Security Council member Gary Sick. Unger, then working with Esquire and later Newsweek, collaborated with investigative reporter Bob Parry to uncover the truth. A key but controversial source was Ari Ben-Menashe, a rogue Israeli intelligence operative who claimed that Bill Casey met with Iranians in Madrid in July 1980 to negotiate a delay in the hostages' release in exchange for arms. Ben-Menashe further alleged that George H.W. Bush traveled to Paris in October 1980 to finalize the deal. Although these sources were often dismissed as disreputable, Unger argues that investigating illegal arms dealing necessitates speaking to operatives within that shadow world, despite the risk to a journalist's career. Craig Unger explores rumors of an "October Surprise"—a Republican deal to delay the hostages' release—which gained credence when former NSC official Gary Sick published an op-ed. Unger spoke to rogue Israeli operative Ari Ben Mashi, who alleged Bill Casey met with Iranians in Madrid in July 1980. Ben Mashi claimed Casey violated the Logan Act and an arms embargo by offering weapons in exchange for a delay in the hostage release until after the election. Ben Mashi also alleged Vice Presidential nominee George H.W. Bush attended a subsequent meeting in Paris in October 1980 to finalize the agreement.
