During COVID, corporations blamed supply chain shocks for rising prices while quietly raising prices higher than costs, thereby boosting their profits to record levels. We know they did this because they bragged about doing it on corporate earnings calls. Economist Hal Singer warns that Trump's proposed tariffs could spark a repeat, giving corporations another “golden opportunity” to jack up prices under the guise of higher costs. He explains why tools like antitrust enforcement and interest rate hikes aren't enough to stop price gouging—and why failing to curb greedflation could carry a steep political price. Hal Singer is an economist, antitrust expert, and Managing Director at Econ One Research, where he specializes in competition policy, regulatory economics, and consumer protection. He's a professor at the University of Utah and a leading voice on market power, price gouging, and the intersection of antitrust and inequality. The US government's mistaken removal of Kilmar Abrego Garcia to El Salvador has captured national attention, and it's as stunning as it is heart breaking. So Mary and Andrew dedicate the bulk of this week's episode to what's happened since the Supreme Court ruled that the Trump administration must follow the lower court's order to facilitate his return. So far, the administration seems to be slow-walking the process, dodging accountability for the fact that Abrego Garcia was never afforded his due process rights, a core American principle. We open the show with better than expected CPI for the month of March. John Bolton makes a dolt of himself as he suggests Trump is economically illiterate less than 24 hours before the single-biggest jump in the stock market in recent history. Sen. Adam Schiff (in his pants) (D-CA), in a three day period, managed to go from being angry at Trump over tariffs to being angry at Trump for pausing the tariffs. We also remember Sen. Chuck “You” Schumer (D-NY) loved Trump 45's tariff's on China. President Trump revealed the strategy yesterday, getting China to walk into a trap while showing the rest of the world he is open to fair trade negotiations. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent confirms the strategy and later reminds us that Trump is focused on Main Street, not just Wall Street. In the meantime, Ambassador Greene, as trade representative to Congress, has to listen to an unhinged and emotional mean-girl Beta-male in the form of Rep. Steven Horsford (D-NV) screech for 5 minutes. Surprisingly, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (D-MI) says she understand the Trump tariff plan and agrees we need more industry here in the United States. On the flipside, in desperation to find a way to paint the positive jump in the DOW as a bad thing, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) thinks it's an example of insider trading. Batya Ungar-Sargon reminds us that Trump is the one fighting for the middle class and middle America. In Congress, only 4 Democrats voted for the SAVE Act. This bill makes it the law that voters need to have proof of U.S. Citizenship to vote in federal elections. The View's Sunny Hostin demonstrates the view of the Left with their soft bigotry of low expectations. An Op-Ed in USAToday says we have tariffs underway, but Congress needs to get on tax cuts and cuts in regulation. To get them started, Trump just signed an order to make sure all departments are ignoring any unlawful regulations. Finally, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth made an announcement in Panama. Her arrest, along with the extortion-like letter sent to Columbia by the Federal Government, South Dakota's speciality anti-semitism law, and the DOJ Special Anti-Semitism task force, indicates that a powerful agent is in control the U.S. Government, AND it wants the First Amendment shut down: speech, protest, publication, privacy, and religion. A new documentary film about the UFO/UAP mystery debuted this month, with testimony from nearly three dozen scientists and government officials about the need for transparency and honesty. In this episode of Weaponized, George and Jeremy mention the premiere of "The Age of Disclosure" film in the context of hostile or incomplete media reports, in particular, a scathing Op-Ed in the Wall Street Journal which slimed a key witness and whistleblower as a "mental patient," as well as a high-profile report by 60 Minutes which examined a five-year wave of "mystery drone" incursions. While laudable for taking on the drone mystery, 60 Minutes ignored, downplayed, and mischaracterized key evidence, testimony, and images from the most dramatic drone incidents, including the 2019 UAP swarms that buzzed the USS Omaha, USS Russell, and eight other Navy ships. The inference that those drones were launched from a cargo ship named Bass Strait is scurrilous and inaccurate. For decades, media organizations have ignored, ridiculed, attacked, or undermined the sanity and integrity of witnesses, whistleblowers, and legitimate inquiries, including the former UAP Task Force, which has had the effect of stifling and intimidating others from coming forward. She admits to demonizing both ideological extremes, and feels squeezed by the potential threats.  Matt first suggests that we try to find shared values to remind ourselves of our common humanity.  Elizabeth is very skeptical of that strategy, but is more receptive to assurances that we can turn to our own core values and principles for respite and strength.
