As we continue to discuss emotional intelligence and it being the root of human connection, I want to revisit the most important human connection that I was ignorant of, most of my life. In 2018 when I was host of The Ziglar Show, I had Robin Sharma for the first time. I used to do a segment called Habits & Values where I asked guests about their personal habits in the key areas of life. When I asked about Robin's habits and values in regards to relationships he surprised me by stating that the first value and priority in his relationships was the relationship he had with himself. This concept has never occurred to me. I viewed relationships as my relating to and with other people. Not myself. This brings us to today and my recent discussion with psychologist, professor, and director of Personal Development at Georgetown University, Patrick Kilcarr, one of the greatest experts I've experienced in regards to emotional intelligence. And the foundation of emotional intelligence that Patrick discusses in his book, Leading An Emotionally Intelligent Life, is human connection. And the first and most vital human connection is the connection we have with ourselves. And even as I say that and you may nod, do you really understand what that is? Because it proves very difficult for me. Leading An Emotionally Intelligent Life: Expanding Your Emotional Intelligence to Make Courageous Decisions and Transform Your Life. This is a story of drive. How a guy found his and how he helps others find theirs. Tom Bilyeu describes himself as a scared kid who worked his way out of his fear and ultimately co-founded Quest Nutrition. You've likely seen or bought Quest bars from the grocery store wherever you live. In 2017 he started Impact Theory, a media company focused on human potential to address as Tom says, the pandemic of body and mind. Today his Impact Theory podcast is one of the top shows in the self-improvement category and one you've likely heard or seen on YouTube. I sat down with Tom in 2017 not long after he started Impact Theory, and before he sold Quest Nutrition in 2019 for a tidy billion dollars. I was host of The Ziglar Show at the time and wanted to dig into a guy who really came from nothing to find success for himself and then devote himself to helping others achieve success, and what he felt the pillars were to increase human potential. You won't find him touting hacks, but instead looking to just doing the work. Which I appreciate. It's not a mystery, and it's something we can all do. The topic of expectations continues to come up as I talk with people in the human potential movement. As an aspiring person who would be listening to a podcast like this, of course you have some positive expectations for yourself. And yet I'd say the enemy of expectations is disappointment. So how do we have high expectations but not set ourselves up for disappointment? I'm bringing back a podcast from when I did The Ziglar Show, with Christine Hassler. Christine made expectations a focus and wrote a book called, Expectation Hangover: Free Yourself From Your Past, Change your Present and Get What you Really Want. Right off the bat you'll hear Christine say, “Managing your expectations is not about lowering your standards.” Christine Hassler is the best-selling author of multiple books. She left her successful job as a Hollywood agent to pursue a life she could be passionate about. She is a keynote speaker, retreat facilitator, spiritual psychologist and life coach, and host of the top-rated podcast “Over it and On With It”, www.christinehassler.com Sign up for a $1/month trial period at shopify.com/kevin Go to shipstation.com and use code KEVIN to sign up for your FREE 60-day trial Get 20% off your first probiotic membership order at pendulumlife.com/drivesyou Go to cozyearth.com/driven and use code DRIVEN for an exclusive 40% discount Learn more about your ad choices. I pay attention to shows people refer to, and often in talking about spending money on our personal growth, people will ask me, “What was it your Dad used to say? What percent should you spend on your personal growth?” The answer is 3-5%. My Dad was Dan Miller, famed author of 48 Days To The Work & Life You Love. In 2017 he published a blog at 48days.com titled, ““Your Success is Guaranteed – If You Do This.” In it he cited Brian Tracy who turned him on to the idea, saying that successful people we all listen to and follow habitually invest at least 3-5% of their income directly toward their personal growth. Many spend far more. And as you'll hear, what follows is your income generally increases as a result and you're able to spend more and more each year. I greatly appreciate the tangible metric. If you make $7,000 per month, you can be looking for $350 to spend on your personal growth every month. So I've brought back this episode with my Dad, back from when I hosted The Ziglar Show, which you'll hear us reference. Think about that statement - Your Future Success Equals The Size Of Your Hope. First, how do we define hope? The most common definition is: a feeling of expectation and desire for a certain thing to happen. Do you expect good things? The opposite of hope is despair. And I'd say, pessimism. Cynicism. And expectation of poor outcomes. It's what I think of when you complain about something and someone responds with, “Right?!” As if to confirm negative outcomes. Where are you on the scale from complete despair to complete hope? So now imagine if someone offered you $1,000 for every percentage of hope you had inside you. And today you're at, say 25%. A cool $25,000. You can take that all the way up to 89% and $89,000. But if you hit 90%, you get a million. How would you conduct your life and steer your mental trajectory? What you're about to hear is a 13 minute clip from Zig Ziglar. One of the most hopeful people I've ever encountered. He was possibly the world's greatest purveyor of hope. A few episodes ago you heard me have a conversation with Seth Godin, who cites Zig as one of his greatest mentors ever, and I felt it was a good time to give Zig some airtime. I believe the following 13 minutes with Zig is worth its weight in gold. Following Zig's talk I'm joined by his son and longtime CEO of Ziglar, Tom Ziglar, to discuss hope further. I'm bringing back this recording from one of my first podcasts when I was host of The Ziglar Show, from 2016. It still remains one of the most downloaded episodes we ever had on The Ziglar Show. This is an absolute classic. I've grown up in the human potential movement and world of entrepreneurship. Having a goal, which I refer to as a destination, is paramount, as if we don't know where we are going, we can never get there. However, to get there, you need a strategy. We generally think we have one, but we very often misinterpret what a real, effective strategy is. So I have for you…the expert. Seth Godin. Seth is known as one of the most pervasive voices in the business world, but just as many people follow him for personal insight. I know so many people who have read his daily blog for well over a decade. Seth has a discerning perspective on a meaningful life and a business that matters and succeeds.. Seth was one of my first guests when I hosted The Ziglar Show, as he cites Zig Ziglar as one of the most influential mentors of his life, again, personally and professionally. I recently sat down with Seth to talk about strategy and as usually, he popped a lot of myths about what is and isn't strategy. He has culminated it in a new book called, This Is Strategy: Make Better Plans. As you're about to hear, he asks as many great questions as he makes great statements. He asks, “If we don't have a strategy, what do we have?” He says, “A strategy isn't a map—it's a compass,” and I think you'll want to hear how he clarifies this. I asked him where we most miss out on what an actual strategy is. And while the topic is headlined as strategy, Seth gives a lot of focus to systems that work. Again, in our personal lives and in our work. Again, the brand new book is This Is Strategy: Make Better Plans, and you're going to hear some of the headline topics I wanted to learn more about. On this episode of the "Driving Change Podcast," host Jeff Bloomfield engages in a deep conversation with Kevin Miller, the host of the "Self Helpful" podcast (formerly the Ziglar Show) and the author behind the book, "What Drives You." Kevin's passion shines through as he mentions, "The show is called self helpful and it's a journey of me trying to help myself figure this stuff out." But Kevin's mission isn't insular. It's an invitation: he's determined to embark on this quest alongside his podcast guests and readers. Their collaborative exploration aims to understand the motivations that drive each individual. You will love this episode, the insights that Kevin provides, and the thoughtfulness of his answers to probing questions that Jeff presents throughout the conversation. Friends, when I first started writing my new book, What Drives You, I sat down with some influential people to get their stories. I wanted to know what took them from, wherever they started, to realize the significant achievements that landed them on my show. Dr Benjamin Hardy is a favorite guest of mine, he's a prolific writer of best-selling non-fiction in the self-help space because he's a great writer, of great research. His books, Willpower Doesn't Work and Personality Isn't Permanent are foundational messages I come back to time and time again. Not long after I signed my book deal, I had Ben on my podcast, which was called The Ziglar Show at the time. He had shared a tidbit of personal story that grabbed my attention...so I brought him on to dig in. What he shared violated much of what I'd previously thought about drive and was a great depiction of what I'd learned and was writing in my book. Ultimately the story here is what I used as the lead off story in chapter one of my new book, What Drives You, which is just now coming out. Ben's story is an incredible depiction of a primary myth I bust, of some people being driven and some people not. Even some having more drive than others. It's just not true. Listen in to hear more. June 15-16 of 2023 I'll be in Dallas to attend and speak at the Ziglar coach summit. If you are looking to influence people for the better, professionally or personally, I invite you to join us. Friends, many of you have listened to this podcast for many years. You've listened to me dig into the stories and messages of over 200 of our world's most profound and important influencers in the self-help space. You listened as I hosted The Ziglar Show and went from 50,000 listeners to over 300,000, then as we transitioned to the Self-Helpful show and grew to over 600,000 listeners. We've had over 60 million downloads and are ranked in the top 1.5% of all podcasts on the planet. So first…thank you. Along the way of this journey, you've heard some of my own story and much of my own perspective on self-help. With the size of my audience I had been approached about writing a book, but it wasn't until a couple years ago I felt driven…to actually write one. What Drives You: How to Discover Your Unique Motivators and Accelerate Growth in Work and Life, published by McGraw Hill, releases May 10, 2023 on Amazon, and you can pre-order now. While it's popular to offer bonuses and incentives to pre-order, because it helps with Amazon rankings, I'm going to refrain for now. At the end of the day, the bonus is you find something in the book that elevates your experience of…everything. Of life at large. In this episode I'm going to briefly tell you what the book is intended to offer you. I give big focus to two primary myths we have about drive. Then I lead you through the key areas of life, the same ones I lead every guest through, and guide you to creating healthy and strong drive in each area. A great premise to the book is the endorsement on the back cover from Jordan Harbinger, host of the Jordan Harbinger Show which often ranks in the top 50 of all podcasts in America, "Everyone is enamored with habits, but having good habits assumes you have the core motives and drive to create, implement, and sustain them. What Drives You is really the prequel to habits, as it helps you establish your why, which is what actually drives what you will and won't ever do. This book should be required reading for anyone desiring to actually improve themselves." You can go find What Drives You by me, Kevin Miller, on Amazon right now, and for insight on the book, stay tuned and I'll give you a tutorial on what you can expect to gain from it. June 15-16 of 2023 I'll be in Dallas to attend and speak at the Ziglar coach summit. If you are looking to influence people for the better, professionally or personally, I invite you to join us. We've been looking at how we view and feel about money and it keeps drawing me back to how influential our work is. We make money from the work we provide. From our efforts to help deliver a product or service. If we are not proud of the work we do. If we are not proud of the end product or service we help provide. If we are just doing it for the money…then the money we earn as a result, we have negative feelings about. The money itself becomes a focus of our frustration along with the work. This is far more than about money and about our personal self-approval. If you have any negative feelings about money, we'd have you consider how you feel about how you earn it. This is part three on my series about Ken Honda, Japan's number one self-help guru, and his focus on the energy we have around money, which is the topic of his super best-selling book, Happy Money: The Japanese Art of Making Peace With Your Money. My co-host for a peer discussion is Tom Ziglar. Tom is son to the inspirational legend, Zig Ziglar and The Ziglar Show is where this podcast evolved from. Tom is an expert in the workplace and in this episode we dig further into how our feelings about our work and how we earn money are foundational to our overall feelings of money and ourselves as a whole. We also discuss how we feel about spending money on undesired and unexpected expenses and how to better handle it when you are the one taking money for such expenses. Ziglar listeners, this is a special announcement. As of May 16, 2022 The Ziglar Show will have a new name and format change. It will be called Self-Help(ful), presented by Ziglar, still hosted by me, Kevin Miller and we will be increasing to three episodes per week. Our aim is to become the #1 show in the self-improvement category and help people go beyond exposure to great messages and into actual engagement and taking action on improving ourselves. There is the you, you used to be. Then there is the you you are now. You probably feel you have changed a lot. Now you are becoming the you you'll be in the future. The you, you want to be. And in truth, more than developing ourselves and improving ourselves, we really just want better results in our lives that come from our growing and changing. We want more success. More money. More health and wellness. More achievements. But even those things are not the real end result we want either. What we really want is...more fulfillment. More contentment. More satisfaction. More peace. One of Zig Ziglars most known quotes is one we don't really do justice to and take to heart, and it speaks directly to this. Zig said, You have to “Be” the right kind of person first, then you must “Do” the right things before you can expect to “Have” the things in life that really matter. That's what the Self-Help(ful) podcast, presented by Ziglar, is about. Helping you become the person who does the things that get you the things in life that really matter. To you.I'll be your guide and fellow student as I bring on the best and brightest experts and influencers in personal development and self-help and giving you more than a one shot episode with them. I'll conduct an initial episode with them to get into the heart of their story and their message. Then we'll have a part two where I expand on my past Habits episode with a Values, Motives, & Habits show to really get into what is driving these influential people, so we can gain insight into what drives us. Then I'll have a peer discussion on the topic with some cohosts, ranging from Tom Ziglar to Dr Randy James, sometimes pulling in past guests, and I may even have some listeners join me from time to time. Instead of a one episode exposure to a profound message you will get three. Soon we'll open up the Self-Help(ful) community where you can join and go even deeper.Every week we'll also be publishing a Functional Friday episode where Dr Randy James and I will give focus specifically to health and wellness from a Functional Medicine standpoint to help you get your mind and body to full capacity, as all our efforts are limited or elevated by the health and capability of our body, mind, and soul. Thanks for tuning in to The Ziglar Show for all these years, and thanks for being with us as we walk together in this expansion to the Self-Help(ful) podcast, presented by Ziglar and journey together to better, help ourselves, become and achieve what really matters to us.Kevin MillerAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy
#975: Anthony Trucks became a player in the NFL because he followed certain successful habits day in and day out to a somewhat severe degree. The reason he lost his marriage and went bankrupt was from following other habits which didn't produce such success. Today he talks about his habits progression and pulls out his quest to employ active and passive habits and gives us a great perspective on this distinction, and as you heard, how the good habits we associate our identity with are the most powerful. I highly recommend you listen to our first talk together in Ziglar Show episode 973 where we dig into identity, the message from his book, Identity Shift. Turmoil and upheaval make us question our faith. It's easy to get caught up in the chaos of things happening around us. It makes us shortsighted. Worse, it can reach a point where we box ourselves into the belief that the world revolves around us. We lose faith because we think we're alone in our struggles. But that is far from the reality God has planned for us. He created us to succeed and thrive. And only when we put in our pure and absolute trust can we find our meaning of faith. In this episode, Tim delves into faith as the second foundational principle to success. He explains how these principles are instrumental to the main character of his book. He then shares how the podcast listeners define faith from their perspectives. We'll also get a glimpse of the book's definition of faith and how we can learn from it. Finally, Tim shares a heartwarming glorification his wife did for him that reinforced his faith in humanity. This is a sales class, pure and simple. And if you know Zig Ziglar at all you know his claim was we are all in sales. True sales is figuring out what people really need and helping them get it. This was prompted by Ziglar Show podcast listener Adam Reid who sent this in, “I am a sales rep for DHL Express Canada and I help businesses in the Saskatchewan market set up accounts to help send and receive their products all around the world. It is a great job to have and the Ziglar show has really helped me develop my skills and experience in selling. As a listener to your show and a professional working in sales, one thing that I think would be helpful to listeners like me is to create an episode with Tom Ziglar about uncovering needs. As a sales professional in my industry this is a big part of building trust and helping developing a relationship with customers in my territory. As a frequent listener to your show there is a theme that is often discussed about solving the customer's problems, yet I haven't been able to hear your take on it. I think if you were able to do a deeper take on solving the customer's problems this would be very beneficial to the audience.” So, in this episode, that's just what we did. We gave our take on it, led by master sales trainer, Tom Ziglar himself. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
#957: We're back with Ron Friedman, renowned psychologist and author of Decoding Greatness: How the Best in the World Reverse Engineer Success, where he takes aim at the concept greatness is made up only of talent and/or hard work, catch us discussing it in episode 955 of The Ziglar Show. Today we walk through his habits for success, which as you heard in the intro, showcase how he personally decodes his life and gets different perspectives on even this, his habits. It's an interesting discussion to hear what perspective drove him to work for himself, as he assessed the risk was greater to work for someone else. We'll be talking about this further over to kevinmiller.co in my Driven To Live Community. Go from listening to this podcast episode to discussing and implementing the principles. #948: I asked the Ziglar audience, “To make progress in your work/career/business/vocation; if you had a willing angel investor, what investment or action would you put money toward?” Tom Ziglar and I talked through the listener comments and it was really insightful for us all to consider… where we really feel the priority is, for making progress in our work and businesses. The top three areas cited were Marketing, such as ad copy and social media, physical resources like land and tools, and people, staff and team members. Go beyond just listening to this episode of The Ziglar Show and join me and a group of aspiring people like yourself to dig into the topics and actually apply the messages to your life. #945: Jon Acuff is the New York Times bestselling author of seven books, including his most recent, Soundtracks, The Surprising Solution To Overthinking, which is our muse today. This is the second time I've had Jon on The Ziglar Show and he has a knack for bringing profound personal development messages to us in an entertaining and highly digestible perspective. I admire his way to connect with where people are in the reality of their lives. A reality that as you're about to hear, he says we manufacture, and I sincerely agree. In this episode you'll hear us dig into issues such as; We think our memory is a GoPro recording of “reality”, when in fact we're just filtering it through our own cognitive bias, one that has a quick decline in memory consistency. But we base our beliefs on it. Jon asks, “Why is it so easy to repeat negative soundtracks about myself internally and so hard to repeat positive soundtracks about myself externally?” The premise of his new book and message is we are living from soundtracks in our mind we often need to Retire, Replace, then Repeat with the new ones, over and over. Jon discusses with me how our brain builds on overthinking's habit of negativity by doing three additional things: Lying about your memories, confusing fake trauma with real trauma, and believing what it already believes. And we start in on his insight into no single good event in our life has as much lasting impact as trauma. So...what do we do with it? That is what you're about to hear about. Find Jon's new book Soundtracks wherever you get books and connect further with him at acuff.me. Come join me in my new Driven To Live community at driventolive.co where we go beyond just listening to these podcasts, and we engage with other driven people...to ask questions and have real conversations on how to actually apply the incredible wisdom we hear, to our own lives as we seek to transform ourselves into our full capacity. #921: “I would like to be measured by what the people who learned from me taught other people.” Seth Godin is one of the premier voices of business in our generation. He's known for his innovative thinking and insight into what I'd cite as business and vocational reform. He's a true leader in that he's attracted a massive following of the business world who look to him daily for commentary on what's most relevant for successful business practices and ethics we can all benefit most from. He was one of the first people Tom Ziglar and I tapped to join us on the Ziglar Show after I became host and revived the show, because he's one of Zig Ziglar's greatest fans. The point is not to glorify Zig, but to hear Seth talk about why the core tenants of morals, values and personal relationships that Zig upheld are still what is most important for our success in today's marketplace. A marketplace that changes daily, but principles that do not. So coming up is Seth Godin and why he sees his legacy as...you. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
#913: I'm back with Kate Eckman, my guest in Ziglar Show episode 911 where we discussed working out your spirit, mindset and mental health to be fit and resilient just as you workout your body. This is my habits episode and what I did here was have Kate share how her habits changed and evolved since her big wake up call. That wake up call was two very close friends committing suicide with a handful of months of each other that brought Kate's life to a screeching halt and ultimate redirection into her vocational devotion today. She previously had habits in her life that helped her achieve success as an elite swimmer, model, TV anchor and broadcast journalist. So how did Kate's habits change from those areas of external success to today where, while she still has success as a sought after executive coach, speaker and author, she is having success internally with inner peace and fulfillment? That is our episode. You can find Kate at kateeckman.tv Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

This is not an episode of The Ziglar Show, but instead, I'm calling it a new, Friday Feature. Maybe not every Friday, but taking the chance to showcase something new to you that I feel is fitting. A new podcast, product, or service. Today, it's a 4 minute preview of another podcast I think you'll enjoy, it's called One Hundred Percent, with Marcus Lemonis. Marcus is CEO of Camping World, which was founded in Bowling Green, KY where I grew up, so I've always had a fondness for the company. Marcus hosts one of the most successful business shows on TV and when I heard he was launching this podcast I reached out for an interview, which I hope to bring you soon. He's an incredibly successful businessman worth nearly a billion dollars, but what he's known for is leading with his values of family, community, character and ethics, and it's from this foundation, and his own money, that he helps small business owners who want his guidance. So in this new podcast, One Hundred Percent, that's just what he does. When I listened to the first episode, which you're about to hear a 4-minute clip from, it reminded me of Oprah Winfrey meets Shark Tank, in that Marcus goes straight to the heart in talking to entrepreneurs, how they got started, who inspires them, and the real why behind their business. Not many business shows have people crying in them, if that gives you an idea. His first show features a company with a product for mental health awareness and he brings on Howie Mandel, who suffers from mental health issues and is an advocate for support, and together they give guidance to the couple. Next episodes will feature guests such as Kirsten Bell, Gayle King, Charles Barkley, Kathy Ireland, and Al Roker, as together they talk to budding entrepreneurs. While you're listening, follow ONE HUNDRED PERCENT WITH MARCUS LEMONIS on Apple Podcasts, Amazon Music, or listen early and ad-free by joining Wondery Plus in the Wondery app. http://wondery.fm/100PercentZiglar | I'd really appreciate hearing from you regarding me sharing this podcast preview with you, and I have another I'll be sharing soon. Doing good business isn't enough to keep customers loyal. I asked our listeners two questions, “How do you create goodwill and customer loyalty in your business?” and then, “What business has your customer loyalty and why?” I was fishing for something Tom Ziglar and I came to in Ziglar Show episode 892 about what some businesses do beyond competing for price and even quality, to wow their customers. We all think we do a great job. A better job to deliver a better service or better product. Yet most every business person I've met has some frustration with customer attrition and losing them to competitors. Let's talk about how you can own your customers for life. This will be significant for all of you with businesses to hear and glean from. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
BUSINESS AND THOUGHT LEADER EDITION Staying motivated is one of the biggest hurdles that many business owners encounter. Entrepreneurship has always been something that requires a lot of effort and perseverance. It starts small, and through consistent effort and strategic planning, grows into a self sustaining machine. It sounds simple, but the actual complexity of business ownership often shaves away at any entrepreneur's motivation. So why does this happen and what can people do about this? Kevin Miller is a renowned podcast host of three shows that focus on personal development, Motive, True Life, and The Ziglar Show. He has more than a thousand (1000+) episodes and fifty million (50m) downloads under his belt, and his shows reach four hundred and fifty thousand (450k) downloads per month. Kevin is also a writer and a business owner, and in this episode of The Free Retiree Show, he will be sharing with wealth manager Lee Michael Murphy, career advisors Sergio Patterson, and attorney Matthew McElroy his thoughts on motivation, entrepreneurship, and the relationship between the two. In this episode of The Ziglar Show our focus is auditing the daily habits and routines of a trauma overcomer and current health, fitness, and brain expert. I’m back with Tana Amen. You’ll hear why she affirms herself with, “I am a warrior.” If you heard her gritty story from childhood abuse to modeling to trauma nurse to today’s health and fitness industry expert and healthy brain advocate in episode 865 you’ll know why this is important to her. She covers her devotion to hydration, establishing her daily mindset, healthy boundaries, and her joy in taking survival trips and challenging herself to do things that scare her. I’ve been doing these twice per month habits shows for years now and recently considered if I should discontinue them...and received overwhelming feedback from listeners that they received massive benefit from hearing the real life habits of others. So...here you go! Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
In this episode of The Ziglar Show we hear a classic message from Zig Ziglar on flea training. He’ll tell you how when you put fleas in a jar they’ll jump up and hit it over and over till they adapt to the lid, then they’ll only jump just high enough before they hit the lid. Take the lid off? They only jump as high as it was, and won’t jump out. Of course the point is...how we are so often like the fleas. We accept a limit that is not really there. So I asked the Ziglar audience, “What limiting conditioning have you overcome?” Tom Ziglar and I talk through the comments here and strive to help us all become aware of where we have accepted limits to our ability and capacity that are not really there. In this episode of The Ziglar Show we talk about customer service. And here is the crux; delivering your product or service perfectly and expertly, is...not...enough. That will not win you customer loyalty and referrals. You’ll continually be frustrated at losing clients to competitors. You won’t get the referrals from customers that you’d expect. Delivering your product perfectly is simply meeting the initial hopes and expectations the customer had. Even if nobody else on the planet delivers as perfectly as you do, doesn’t matter. The only way to get your customers to come back to you time and time again and refer others to you is if you over deliver. Nobody does it, but it’s not hard. I asked the audience, “What do you do to create customer or client loyalty? What do other businesses do that earn YOUR customer loyalty?” I’m going to give you a 3.5 minute clip from Zig Ziglar where he explains going beyond customer service to customer satisfaction then Tom Ziglar and I talk through many of the comments to the question and lead a class on how to own your customer for life. She has also published many successful books, including her best-selling Winning in Life Now and latest, The Power of Authority. She is a Ziglar Legacy Certified speaker/ trainer and named the Ziglar Brand Ambassador - representing the values and legacy of the late Zig Ziglar. She was the co-host of The Ziglar Show podcast, with 40 million downloads and host of her own podcast, The Power of Authority. She has been a featured speaker for many corporations, associations and events to inspire, transform and support leaders. How did you get to be the expert you are right now with leveraging your authority and how you want to be an author to do that, and how we really are leveraging kind of our story in our wisdom to really make a bigger impact in the world. my career started working for Zig Ziglar. And that had a huge impact on me, because, you know, I was just out of college. And I just loved everything that he stood for and values. I knew some way, somehow, I'd be doing more of that as I as I grew into my own, if you will. But I didn't really know how to do it. I always had a goal to write a book, but I didn't dare tell anybody about it. I remember sitting in a conference actually and thinking, well, why not me? Why not? Why don't I just write a book. And so I'm going to write a book. And I'm just going to share it with my kids. And that'll be that. And I did write a book. And it was my first book was called Winning In Life Now. And Zig wrote the foreword, and it was a big deal in my little world. That book really opened up this opportunity to get out there and speak and do things. I'd meet all these incredible people, and they have great stories, but they really didn't know, they didn't have a platform. They didn't know how to leverage it. And so I started just getting really passionate about helping people figure out their story. It just kind of evolved into not just helping people find their story, but to publish them and a publishing company and everything that goes along with that. It's been an incredible journey. Tell us a little bit about what Book Bound is. Book Bound is a conference I've been doing since 2010. Pre COVID we were doing it live, in person a couple times a year, but it's basically three days and it's really designed for new authors who are trying to get clarity. What is my story? What is it? If I did want to really grow my business or leverage what I'm doing, how would I do that? Yes, the publishing part comes into it, but it's really focused on getting clarity on who you are, what do you have to offer. And then how do you go through that process? How do you market a book, all of those things? And so we've been doing that for all those years. It's been great. It's amazing to see how many people have taken that information and just kind of run with it and either created their own book or their own brand. Michelle is going to be sharing some great tips and wisdom today on how to leverage authority. We both share the love of helping people to tell their stories. And there is a place for that, right. And you don't have to want to build a business to tell your story, but those that do and people that are business owners, professionals, people that are really trying to differentiate from their competition, they have to look at their story, if you will, as it's just their ability to get more visibility, more authority, how to get more revenue, respect and results all by authoring in a book. It goes through this framework and yes, you can use this framework for anything, you don't have to write a book. The framework follows a seven-step process to building your authority. #1 – Clarity. This goes for anything in life. We you can't really accomplish anything unless you really have that clarity. #2 – Uncovering what's holding you back. There's so many things that get in the way of getting things done. It could be procrastination, it could be fear, it could be negative beliefs. But there's something going on. It's usually some mind chatter. And that's what holds us back. #3 – How can I position my story to get more authority. People want to know your backstory. Why do you do what you do? How did you get into this? #4 – Documenting your story. You could document it in a blog, in a journal, you can do whatever, but you have to document your story, just because you know, the clarity on it doesn't mean it's going to benefit anyone else or benefit your brand. You have to find a way to get it out there and document it, and then publish it. #5 – Publishing. Yes, you can publish a book, but you can also publish a podcast, you can publish a YouTube channel. It's your story. It's really not about a book, it's more about a medium that you get to share that story at a bigger level. #6 – Platform. When somebody thinks of you and your brand, it's not just one thing, it's a course, it's a podcast, it's a speaking event, it's a retreat, it's your platform. That authority comes when somebody clearly sees your platform. #7 – Inspiring others. It's amazing what happens when you when you step into your greatness or you just recognize that you've been through a couple things in you business, or I've been through some things personally, that I learned a couple things here and there that I could share with other people, and it could help them. And what happens is, you don't even know it's happening, but you're inspiring other people to find their clarity and to find their story and to build their platform. And it's this cycle. I bring you Silicon Valley legend and all around wise guy, Guy Kawasaki. I’ve read Guys books, had him on my Ziglar Show twice, hung out with him face to face in San Diego at the Social Media Marketing event, and I think our relationship was solidified after he butt dialed my cell phone one afternoon and we talked a while about him starting a podcast, which he did...called Guy Kawasaki’s Remarkable People. Guy was the original Chief Evangelist of Apple and has many stories about him with Steve Jobs and the early foundations of Apple. Today he’s an evangelist for Canva and Mercedes but much more than that just a big influence and all around fun guy. I brought him here to the Motive podcast to talk about his early and current motives, both personally and professionally. Honestly this is just a fun romp through Guy admitting he never had huge visions, but he did have clear motives and he went forth and accomplished them. This will be a good showcase that you don’t need giant killing, uber altruistic goals to get you going and achieving. Just clear goals you have faith in. You can connect with Guy Kawasaki...everywhere, he’s a social media giant. His website is guykawasaki.com and I really encourage you to check out his podcast, Guy Kawasaki’s Remarkable People.

Many of us have dreams, desires, and goals we are uncomfortable with. We may have a hard time admitting we want them. We may be ashamed to share them. Or we may desire to have big goals but can’t tap into what we really want or care about. This show is about these issues. I kick us off with a clip from Zig Ziglar realistic expectations and the need to have big goals, which will seem at odds to many, which is why I encourage you to listen to what Zig has to say. From this I posted this question to the Ziglar Show audience, “Who has a big goal? Maybe bigger than you honestly feel capable of? Maybe big enough you are not even comfortable sharing publicly?” We got so many great responses that Tom Ziglar and I only got through about half. It’s so inspiring and informative to not only hear people admit their goals but to admit their quandary in how to go after these goals. A powerful show, to say the least. Sales class is here. I’ve got five minutes of sales expertise from Zig Ziglar where he simply states, “Questions are the answer!” He digs into the three types of questions in his “need analysis” with the goal to establish trust. He also covers the difference between motivating and manipulating your prospect. This is Ziglar Sales 101 and what amazes me is how in today’s world, so few people and companies know and follow successful sales structure. From Zig’s message I asked this question to the Ziglar Show audience, “What question(s) reveal whether someone is a good prospect for your product or service?” Many replies and I did a lot of questioning back to clarify people’s products and services amongst different industries and how they are literally using questions in their businesses. And some of course who are not doing it well. For all the business owners and salespeople in the Ziglar audience, this is a show for you! And if you know Ziglar and our belief that everyone is in sales, as sales is influence...then you know the show is for everyone listening. Learn more about your ad choices. We are all busy and we’re all in a hurry. Who just loves it? Who feels they are producing their best work while in such a harried state? Yet, who feels trapped by it? So now I’m going to give you some miracle, “seven steps” formula that sounds nice and shiny, but we all know...nothing is going to change, right?” But alas, there is no formula. It comes down to awareness of what is really driving us, and what we believe. I’m part of a prayer group of about a dozen men, all business owners with big audiences. One of them said we all had to get this book he was reading, titled, “The Ruthless Elimination of Hurry.” I got the book. I read it. I contacted the publisher and said I wanted the author on The Ziglar Show with me. That...is what I bring you today. John Mark Comer. John's story is this...he was pastoring a successful megachurch in Portland, OR with six services each Sunday and a marathon lifestyle which left him feeling burnt out and detached from those around him. In a moment of desperation, he asked a mentor for advice. The response he received was this, “You must ruthlessly eliminate hurry from your life. There is nothing else.” From that was born John's new book, "In The Ruthless Elimination of Hurry: Staying Emotionally Healthy and Spiritually Alive in Our Current Chaos." In this show we unpack the concept and what I found was this; an amazing case for me to change my paradigm and limit the hurry of my life. Why? Personal peace, for sure. But also...better production. I don't want to do a ton of good work. I want to do a smaller amount of truly great work. Just today I got word from someone else that they had read the book and it had significantly disrupted their life with this new perspective. But we go deeper too. I’d tell you we talked about the lifestyle of Jesus, except I’m concerned you’d discount it as I used to, in regards to...Jesus wasn’t married. He didn’t have kids or a mortgage. A 9-5 job. But then...he did have a scant three years to save the world before he was assassinated. It might be worth considering… This is a big show folks. You can connect with John at his website johnmarkcomer.com/ and of course find “The Ruthless Elimination of Hurry” wherever you buy books. Learn more about your ad choices. We would all agree to that statement, “Success doesn’t happen by accident.” But the reality is, most people subconsciously feel it will either happen to them or not. Our culture today takes less responsibility than ever for the realities of life. Chronic illness and disease is on a radically high growth curve and while we know most of it is a result of poor lifestyle choices, the average person believes it’s genetics and the luck of the draw. But you know better, which is why you are here listening to The Ziglar Show. In this show I bring you again, Howard Partridge, my guest from show 759 where we discussed why we do and don’t implement. Howard came from a poverty stricken family with seven kids and was kicked out at 18. In this show you will hear him tell more of his story and how he simply worked. He worked hard and he worked a lot. Today he’s a self-acclaimed beach bum and while he still works a lot, it’s out of joy in his work and providing great employment for others, as he no longer needs to work for his personal income. You will gain much by this walk through Howard’s story and habits that have helped him attain a lifestyle he adores and the abundance to bless so many people. Learn more about your ad choices. Would you like to know just why you do what you do, and don’t do much of what you’d wish yourself to do? Like implementing the plans that would progress your life? This is the focus my guest in this episode brings us. Howard Partridge’s new book is titled, FTI, Failure to Implement. He walks us through 10 Principles for business and life success. But what jumped out at me is looking at these 10 areas and realizing they were a great business and personal audit. Meaning, we can take each area and audit ourselves. If we are lacking, then we have exceptional insight into why we are or are not getting the results we want in our personal aspirations and goals. Why we are not implementing and taking action toward what we want. I encourage you to be listening as we walk through these principles and thinking about yourself. Do you have any intentional plans for each area? You will likely walk away with a handful of the areas where you realize you have a void. Which is wonderful! Awareness! Now you can tangibly address something and get a step closer toward what you want and believe in. And as you’ll hear us start off with, the issue and necessity of belief itself. Howard is not just a wildly successful businessman and business coach, he is a fellow student, devotee, and purveyor of the Ziglar legacy. Howard has been the exclusive business coach for Ziglar for many years and works with Tom Ziglar on running the overall Ziglar corporation. Howard has authored eight books, one which you’ll hear us reference, The Power of Community, was our focus in past Ziglar Show episode #533. You can get FTI, Failure To Implement at howardpartridge.com or wherever you buy books. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
Love and affection I think we would all say have value, but how much, in what way, and why? How important is it? What place does it have in our home, our work, and in all our relationships? Zig Ziglar brings us a short message on the issue, then I posted this question to the Ziglar Show audience, “In your home and close relationships, how do you communicate love and affection and how often? And how important do you believe it is?” As responses quickly came in, I posted this follow up question, “Who experienced a LACK of love and affection in their upbringing or marriage and how has it affected you or how are you dealing with it?” Tom Ziglar and I went through as many of your comments as we could and from them, received some incredible insight into this issue. As we continue to breach the hard questions, this one is a doozy that massively affects our relationships. In this episode we hear a six minute message from Zig Ziglar where he shares a story and from it poses the question, “Why don’t we treat everyone like they are a VIP in our lives?” He cites the impact our perspective of another holds in our relationships. From his message I asked The Ziglar Show audience this question, “How much responsibility do you feel you should take for the relationships in your life, from spouse to parent to coworkers and beyond.” And boom...the responses came in. Right away the majority were either 100% or 50%. But differentiations were made between relationships, especially regarding work or parenting and positions of authority. I’ll preface the show by saying this is not a black and white issue. But knowing what our belief is will greatly influence the health of your relationships. It is a foundational topic we would all be best served to make a decision upon. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

This is a special episode on habits. For almost two years now I’ve had every single guest on the Ziglar Show, comprised of today’s most successful influencers in personal development, share their personal habits for success. They share exactly what they do in each of the seven spokes of The Ziglar Wheel of Life. It is inspiring and empowering. From this I want to help you with your own habits. It’s one thing to understand the benefit of great habits and to hear what all these successful people are doing. It’s another thing to actually make the decision ahead of time and then in the appropriate moment, to start your own habits. And you may be in a tough place in life where you feel trapped and overwhelmed, or even just desiring, but stalled out. The point of this show is to reveal what is needed before the habit can really happen. And it will likely showcase to many of you WHY you are struggling with your healthy habits, or lack thereof. So this dives down from the Habits shows where you hear what successful people do, to the how and why. I’ll run through five attributes that precede establishing healthy habits, then walk through the seven spokes on the Ziglar Wheel of Life and clarify the background and roots understanding that will help you not just take action but really know why beyond the face value comprehension. We can’t hear it enough, the quality and routine of our morning is the primary indicator of our success for the day. Yet the fact remains that the majority of people, even aspiring people like the Ziglar Show listeners, do not have a healthy routine to start the morning. In show 707 I brought you Hal Elrod, bestselling phenomenon of the book The Miracle Morning. In this show we walk through the seven spokes of the Ziglar Wheel of Life with Hal and hear his personal habits for success. He has some significant, unique habits in all areas, but it’s hard to not highlight what he cited for the Mental spoke, and it’s his routine he coined SAVERS: silence, affirmations, visualization, exercise, reading, and scribing, that he attributes his primary success to. I’ve had a solid morning routine for a couple years now, but Hal has inspired me to more...because I want even more out of my day. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Welcome to The Ziglar Show, I’m your host, Kevin Miller and this is our Q&A show. Every week I post a personal development question on my facebook page at agentkmiller to hear the real-world testimonies of people’s journeys to change and grow. In this episode our topic is around an age old cliche’. We hear a short story and message from Zig Ziglar that wraps up with him stating a core value for humanity is “How fast you get up after being knocked down”. I think I can safely assume everyone has heard this. If you’ve ever played football, I can guarantee it! But do we take it to heart? Here’s the deal and point of this episode, if nothing hard happens to you, you aren’t stretching yourself more, you’re playing it safe. That’s your choice. But if you ARE striving, you will have some trials. Things that don’t work out for you. And you may very well be victimized, that can happen to anyone. The point isn’t staying in a bubble. It’s going out and at some point, getting your bubble burst. So the value, the valor, goes to how you...recover. Do you get back up? Do you do it with hope and faith instead of bitterness and cynicism? Do you allow the trial to strengthen or weaken you? So from Zig’s message I posted this question:“What is a failure you’ve had or valley you were in or trauma you’ve recovered from that you are proud of and better for? And what was the catalyst for your overcoming?" We heard about recoveries from abuse, financial valleys, infertility, death of loved ones and more. I’m joined by Michelle Prince to talk through the comments. We also addressed some big issues in regards to why some people bounce back and others don’t, and we get into muddy water with the concept of God being in control and having a plan... I think you’ll find this an affirming message. Hey, I have a favor to ask, and something to offer in return. It helps me when you share The Ziglar Show with others on social media, and when you leave a review wherever you access your podcasts. But this takes your time. So what can I offer you? You tell me. Seriously. Share the show or write a review, then send it to me at kmiller@awarebc.com and...tell me how I can help you. Answer a question? Give some guidance? Help you find a resource? You tell me. As Zig says, we’ll help each other get what the other wants. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
The age old pursuit of wellness. Of losing weight, gaining muscle, being fit and trim, having energy and not having aches and pains. We have more knowledge on the issue than ever, but America and many other countries are getting fatter and sicker. “Eating less and exercising more” are no longer getting the expected results. If you feel you are doing so many of the supposed “right” things and not getting good results, you are not alone and there is more at work. The topic comes on the heels of our talk with internationally recognized fitness and nutrition expert, Angelo Poli. Angelos is founder of MetPro, the world’s first algorithm based transformation engine. Catch episode 683 with Angelo, titled, “Winning the war over your body.” This is our Q&A show and I asked the Ziglar audience a question on my Facebook page. I invite you to join us, just find and friend me at agentkmiller. The question I asked for this episode was, "Who has gotten results with a diet and/or exercise program? Who has gotten frustrated by one??" I then had the expert himself, Angelo Poli, join me to talk through your many comments. I’m confident you will resonate with many of the comments of failure and success here, but mostly you will get further schooled in how you can finally get results, from Angelo. Ziglar Show listeners can receive their own, complementary Metabolic Evaluation and a 30-minute one on one consultation with a Metabolic Expert by going to metpro.co/ziglar and click “Get Started.” Metpro will review your answers, respond to any questions you may have, and discuss ways MetPro can support your weight loss and performance goals. What are the healthy life habits of an internationally recognized expert in fitness and nutrition? Interestingly, they do not include marathon workout sessions, he actually tells us about micro workouts and how consistency is better than intensity. Our muse today is Angelo Poli, our guest from show 683. Angelo is the Founder of MetPro, the world’s first algorithm based transformation engine. Using a process called Metabolic Profiling, MetPro analyzes your metabolism and provides an individualized approach to obtaining your health goals. If you hear that show, you’ll hear I’m a current client with them! In this show we get a behind the scenes look at Angelo’s daily habits for success. He shares his family resembles the old TV show, "Everybody Loves Raymond and lots of laughter is always on the menu. His favorite mental exercise is, get this...gardening with jazz. Literally. Of course he works out every day and just as his Metpro coaching platform prescribes, his key to nutritional health is being intentional and prepping his food. Don’t miss his offer, Ziglar Show listeners can receive their own, complimentary Metabolic Evaluation and a 30-minute one on one consultation with a Metabolic Expert by going to metpro.co/ziglar. It is doubtful anyone listening to The Zigar Show who would say no to being trimmer, more muscular or just having more energy and vitality. Most of you are probably making efforts to eat “healthy” and get some exercise. Are you getting the results you want? It increasingly seems people are more frustrated than grateful for the status of their body and health. Is our body the enemy? Is it betraying us? If you resonate with any of this, you will get great value from this show. My guest is Angelo Poli, an internationally recognized expert in fitness and nutrition. He’s the Founder of MetPro, the world’s first algorithm based transformation engine. Using a process called Metabolic Profiling, MetPro analyzes your metabolism and provides an individualized approach to obtaining your health goals. Angelo has spent much of his career as a motivational speaker and was a featured speaker at TEDxChico where he discussed his own achievement in overcoming obstacles. After recovering from a crippling injury himself that saw him use a cane for nine years, Angelo brought to light a whole new way of thinking about health, fitness, and weight loss. In his 20 years of educating the masses and challenging generalized health guidance, Poli has become one of the most celebrated and desired body transformation experts in the world. In this show he will explain why you are not getting the results you want, and I guarantee it will make sense. And he does not tell you want to eat, what exercise to use or what magic supplement to take. Also, Ziglar Show listeners can receive their own, complimentary Metabolic Evaluation and a 30-minute one on one consultation with a Metabolic Expert by going to metpro.co/ziglar and click “Get Started.” Metpro will review your answers, respond to any questions you may have, and discuss ways MetPro can support your weight loss and performance goals. There is a growing threat to all our efforts to progress in our lives. As we strive for success in our business, career, finances, relationships, and overall impact in the world, something is sabotaging our efforts. All we strive to do, all our goals and accomplishments and achievements comes from our physical and mental self. There is a grand and growing myth that you can get brilliance out of your mind and brain even if your body is Jabba the Hut. It’s a myth. And show me someone who is unwell and still producing great works and I’ll show you someone who could be producing even greater works. If you are walking slower up the stairs, your brain is functioning slower as well. But what does all this mean? What should you be doing? If you’re not out to be an athlete, lose weight, gain muscle or try out for a modeling gig, then what do you need to do for your physical and mental well being in order to be getting all you need from yourself? Join personal development researcher Kevin Miller, well-known host of the top ranked podcast, The Ziglar Show, and co-host, Randy James, Medical doctor and functional medicine specialist.

Jonni Pollard is renowned for bringing meditation mainstream via his organization and app, 1 Giant Mind. In show #667, Michael Hyatt referenced using the 1 Giant Mind app as part of his daily spiritual habits, and more than half of all guests on The Ziglar Show are attesting to using meditation as a primary part of their daily habits and routines. While meditation seems to often have spiritual undertones to it, it is ultimately brain training. An example; if you are familiar with the sport of biathlon that combines cross-country skiing and rifle shooting, after vigorously skiing for a distance the athlete must then stop and calm themselves in order to shoot a very small target. In our lives, we tend to go, go, go and then struggle to hit the small targets of success we desire. Jonni uses meditation to help us daily calm ourselves in order to be present and fully useful and able as we target our most valuable goals. It is not rest so much as fuel. Jonni states that most of us are prisoners of ourselves. Of our own minds. We never stop to gain control of and over our thoughts, anxieties, worries, and never-ending duties and roles. We tend to "rest" by escaping and entertainment, which is more like a pause than a refocus and recalibrate. This is an equipping message that really drove home what we are missing and what we can gain with taking a moment daily to really be present in our own minds. Learn more about your ad choices. You are overwhelmed. You have too much to do. So I have a question for you - if you could wave a magic wand, would you rather get more done or have less to do? Productivity messages generally focus on getting efficient to get more done. But the greats of our present day and history don’t...do more. They figure out ways to spend more time doing what only they can do. Their art, in essence. Michael Hyatt joins us on The Ziglar Show for the third time, our first guest to do so. His new book is titled, “Free To Focus” - Achieve More By Doing Less. Want the punch line? The primary problem for most of us is we take on too much and don’t eliminate, automate or delegate enough. We spend time doing tasks that relegate us to a low paid, hourly worker. Why? Michael steps on my own toes by stating it’s often because we think it takes longer to explain it to someone else than to just do it myself, and I don’t think someone else can do it as well. Both may be true, but if I accept that, I’m quickly plateaued in what I can do. And there I sit. Forever under maximized. Friend, this is a convicting and compelling message. From it you will do one of two things: cut down on the things YOU don’t have to do. Again, they may need to get done, but do YOU have to do them. And then spend more time on the important things that you do best. Or you will decide to change nothing, and anchor your progress to where you are now. And since I know you won’t do the latter, then there is nothing more important than listening to and digesting this message! If you don’t know Michael...he’s one of the most influential voices in business. He’s a bestselling author, one of the most successful bloggers...ever. And in truth is a primary leader of...leaders. It’s unreal how many of the people we interview on the show look to Michael for mentorship. My guest is Tom Ziglar. Among many things, Tom is the proud son of Zig Ziglar. He's also a bestselling author and international speaker. Listen To The Podcast: Resources: Interview: Mitch Matthews: Tom is also now the CEO of the Ziglar Corporation. Tom joined the Ziglar Corporation in 1987, but he started at the bottom. In fact, he started in the warehouse and routed through sales that went on to management then moved into leadership. He also speaks around the world and hosts the wildly popular Ziglar Show podcast. So you should check that out. He carries on that Ziglar philosophy. "You can have everything in life you want if you just help enough other people get what they want." I love that. That was a life-changing quote for me. His new book coming out is called Choose to Win: Transform your Life, One Simple Choice at a Time. When I heard about it, I knew I wanted to have Tom on the show because he's the real deal and he's all about getting you strategies that actually work. So let's get to this. Tom Ziglar, welcome to Dream, Think, Do buddy. Tom Ziglar: Oh man. Mitch, thanks for having me. Mitch Matthews: Absolutely, this is an honor, my friend. I've been following you for a while in a good way, not in a restraining order kind of way. Tom Ziglar: Are you stalking me? Mitch Matthews: Yeah, in a positive stalker kind of way. So yeah, take that however you want. I love it. I'm sure you get questions like this a bajillion times over, so I apologize, but I just have to ask, what was it like to grow up in the Ziglar household? Tom Ziglar: I'll tell you, it was amazing. I tell people all the time as good as dad was on stage, he was even better off stage. He was just ... When you think of, gosh, what would be the ultimate earthly father. Mitch Matthews: Right. Tom Ziglar: I think Zig Ziglar would be that. And then my mom, the redhead- Mitch Matthews: The redhead. Yes. Tom Ziglar: Dad said he never would have heard of Zig Ziglar if I hadn't been for the redhead. And so just to grow up in that family and Dad was always ... He never put the pressure on. He never said you're going to be in sales or you're going to be a speaker. He always said, hey, whatever you want to do, whatever your passion is, whatever your why is just ... I want you to pursue it with 100% effort and 100% integrity. And so, when you're raising kids, I mean what better message could you have than two parents who set the example. They're always there to talk and then they're behind you 100% as long as you're doing it with integrity and effort. I mean that's ... You can't ask for more than that. Mitch Matthews: That's a beautiful thing. It is amazing and it's ... I've had some other folks that had famous parents and it's interesting how that's not always the case. Sometimes that outer appearance is wonderful, amazing, but when they get home, they're a different person. So that's not surprising, but it's beautiful to hear. Well, one of the things I wondered about too was, what was that conversation like when you're deciding, hey, I think I want to come and work for Zig ... the Ziglar Corporation. What does that ... what does that conversation look like? Tom Ziglar: Well, I'll tell you what, it was pretty simple. I played golf in college and my goal was to be a professional PGA golfer and I graduated from college and I needed money to support my golf habit and I needed flexibility. Mitch Matthews: Yeah. Tom Ziglar: And dad was behind that 100%. And so I started off in the warehouse working [inaudible 00:04:49] depending on the time of year, 25 to 35 hours just there packing boxes and doing production work. And then I was playing golf 40 to 50 hours of practice and playing. So I had the flexibility, which is great to have that flexibility. And then I realized that those guys out there are really good after about a year and some injuries and I thought, you know what? Golf's not my future.
Tom Ziglar is the proud son of Zig Ziglar and the CEO of Ziglar, Inc. He lecturers around the world and hosts The Ziglar Show spreading the message, "You can have everything in life you want if you will just help enough other people get what they want."
We are holding up self-awareness as a holy grail of success. I often say the most dangerous enemy of our life is what we don’t know. What we are blind to. And it’s even worse if we’re talking about an area we think or assume we are good at, and are actually not! In show 655 my guest was high performance coach Alan Stein and we spent a majority of our time talking about the value and necessity of self-awareness. The reality that even with high profile NBA pro basketball players, the number one ingredient for their long term success is, self-awareness. So I wanted to put the issue to you. I posted this question on Facebook, “What is something about yourself you were once unaware of, and now are gratefully "self-aware"? How has it benefited you?” Then, I had Alan himself join me to review your comments. I’ll tell you, I feel oftentimes these candid question and answer sessions with you, the Ziglar Show audience, are as profound if not more, than our main interviews where we initially dig into the issue. Tom Ziglar runs the Ziglar media empire, helping the legacy of his dad Zig Ziglar live on. As CEO of Ziglar and key collaborator on his father's 30th book, Born to Win, Tom carries on the organization's “profoundly simple” philosophy: “You can have everything in life you want, if you will just help enough other people get what they want.”He also takes the stage, addresses leadership of all levels, co-hosts the podcast, The Ziglar Show, Inspiring Your True Performance, with Kevin Miller (our guest from season 2)… he's definitely an inspirational storyteller.“I started doing presentations and speaking … reluctantly. I was the guy who prepared the stage for The World's Best. I was nervous. The story I told myself was, ‘They want me to be like my dad.' But no. I realized they just want me to be the best version of myself.” - Tom Ziglar on his storytelling journeyConnect with Tom Ziglar:Ziglar websiteLinkedInTwitterFacebookDocumentaryTom's book Choose to Win
Welcome to The Ziglar Show, I’m your host, Kevin Miller. Do you really know how to listen? I asked this question on Facebook,” What have you been taught regarding...listening? Being a good listener? Do you think you are a good listener?” We received about 50 responses, but while a lot of people shared things they had heard in regards to being a good listener, most also admitted...they weren’t so good. This comes from my recent series on listening, brought to us by Oscar Trimboli, don’t miss his show #651. And for this Q&A session, I asked Oscar to join us! I think I learned more from hearing his responses to your real life questions that I did in my main interview with him. And as you’ll hear, he was listening. To me. Watching me. And you’ll hear first hand how he employs deep listening skills in the moment. I’ve had so many people say they went to his website at oscartrimboli.com and purchased his book. I’d highly recommend it. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
What is your key to success? Well first, there isn’t one, there will be a bunch of keys. The best way to find them? Discover the keys that successful people use in their lives! Which I bet is a main reason you listen to The Ziglar Show. But we can’t listen to any one person’s success keys and adopt them for our lives. We are unique and will need a unique batch of keys to unlock our own potential. SO...the tagline for this show is “Inspiring Your True Performance”. I received a book titled “Raise Your Game - High performance secrets from the best of the best.” I was intrigued initially, then much more when I began reviewing the book. Alan Stein, Jr. is the author and our guest today. Here’s what I think is of such great value though. Alan didn’t just survey successful people, he worked directly alongside them. Long term and intimately. Specifically, NBA superstars. Alan is a world-renowned performance coach who spent most of his career working with pro basketball players. Now he’s a sought after speaker, podcast host and author. But before you get visions of his guidance being how to high jump and dribble, the first chapter of his book, the anchor in my opinion, is based on my current, favorite word: AWARE. Chapter one in his book is Self-Awareness. Do you get that? The testimony is that the first key ingredient they are looking for in a world-dominating basketball player is not height, reach, endurance, physical strength or even mental grit. It’s self-awareness. In my years of working as a professional in the personal development industry, after 362 Ziglar Show episodes and over 100 interviews with highly successful and influential people, I wholly agree. Chapter two of the book? Passion. Like self-awareness, passion is something anyone can have folks, that’s available to all of us! So you can see why I’m excited about this message! You can get the book and connect with Alan at raiseyourgamebook.com/ or wherever you buy books. Though at his site you can get a free preview right away. You’ll see a rave review from bestselling author Daniel Pink, our guest in show #575 Learn more about your ad choices. We all have lots and lots of knowledge. As a Ziglar Show listener, chances are almost every day you take in new knowledge, in the form of a book, podcast or video. New knowledge inspires us, which is incredibly valuable. But at some point we need to take action in our lives if we want to make any positive progress. In this show we hear a message from Zig Ziglar on Gaining Knowledge, Training Accordingly, Experiencing Growth and Realizing Change. From his message I asked this question to our audience, “What is a recent experience you have had with taking knowledge, and making actual change as a result?” Great comments that Tom Ziglar and I talked through and I believe you will relate to on many levels. This show is brought to you by Abby Connect - At a fraction of the cost of hiring an in-house assistant, Abby Connect provides you with a team of U.S. based, professional, courteous receptionists that give your clients the best experience each and every time they call your business. 8-3-3-ABBY-WOW and mention our podcast OR go to abbyconnect.com/ziglar Learn more about your ad choices. We are discussing a very relevant paradigm shift on the topic of goals. Chances are you’ve had “goals” pounded into you for many years. And the term goals may or may not inspire you...and due to that, you may even feel guilty for not being motivated to have, set and focus on...goals. Sounds blasphemous coming from The Ziglar Show, the veritable kingdom of goals! Isn’t that a primary term Zig Ziglar is known for? Yes, it is. But what you’ll hear in this show is that the point of goals is getting to an end result. And the truth is, more people are motivated by...solving problems. It’s not mere semantics or a play with words, it’s truly foundational regarding how you set your course and achieve...anything. We kick off with a four minute clip from...Tom Ziglar! This was derived from a discussion I had with him and he was talking about this aspect of “goal” driven or “problem” driven. I had never heard it this way and really resonated with the concept, and said we needed to do a show on it. So here it is. From Tom’s four minute message I posted this question on Facebook, “ “Are you more motivated by achieving goals, or solving problems?" We got a boat load of responses, and they lined up precisely to the percentage Tom shares in his message regarding how many of us are goal or problem driven, it was amazing. Tom and I talked through a number of them. You’ll want to join us in this show. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
Welcome to The Ziglar Show, where we inspire your true performance. I’m your host Kevin Miller and today we are talking with a true dynamic duo, Ken Blanchard & Claire Diaz-Ortiz. Few people don’t know Ken Blanchard, he needs little introduction as the renowned author of the acclaimed One Minute Manager book, and scores of others. Ken shared the stage with Zig Ziglar many times and is an influencer of Zig Ziglar’s generation and on Zig’s level. Now Claire Diaz-Ortiz is an author, speaker and innovation advisor who was an early employee at Twitter. She was named one of the 100 Most Creative People in Business by Fast Company and called “The Woman Who Got the Pope on Twitter” by Wired, how’s that for a claim! Clair is the award-winning author of eight books that have been published in more than a dozen countries. But the cool story here is...Ken asked Claire to co-author a book with him: ‘One Minute Mentoring - How to Find and Work With a Mentor - and Why You’ll Benefit from Being One.’ Ken asked Claire because he not only personally mentors her, but she in turn mentors him in regards to the younger generation. It makes and incredibly valuable perspective on the need, value and opportunity of mentoring, we waited 8 months to get this interview. This is a very important topic and conversation. Mentorship is something Zig Ziglar cited as a primary reason for his success. You’ll hear us discuss that more in the show. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Rachel Cruze inspires our true performance by pointing out a primary reason we spend money we shouldn’t, and become controlled by it. What is it? Social status. In today’s culture there is something causing us to do this more than ever, and I would not have guessed what it was before reading her book. The culprit? Social Media. It’s not the bad buy, but the “highlight reel” is causing us to spend. So, what do we do about it? Listen to the show! In show 424 we heard from Zig Ziglar and discussed the health of responding vs reacting. I invited questions. We got some on that topic, but it also just generated a bunch of great questions on the real life issues we cover here on The Ziglar Show regarding, “How do I really…inspire my true performance? Me, in my life?” So from personal development to some business development, we cover some big issues. One I want to pull out really questioned the issue of “positive thinking” and always being optimistic. Is it just being stoic and unemotional and…an unrealistic robot or Pollyanna persona? Then folks, near the end of the show we get into the issue of work you love, working at your passions. That’s where the excerpt from the top of the show came from and I think it will shed light on the topic that will be very reassuring and freeing for most of you. You have talent, and you’re probably somewhat blind to it. You minimize your talent and yourself. Which makes you…normal, according to Roy H Williams. On September 18, 2016 Roy sent out his weekly “Monday Morning Memo” and within moments of reading it, Ziglar Show host Kevin Miller contacted Roy’s camp and requested an interview as soon as possible. Days later it happened. Along with the topic at hand, they also took some majestic detours into personal and business branding, what humility actually is, and Roy’s take on following your passions.
