The subject tonight is Love And for tomorrow night as well, As a matter of fact I know of no better topic For us to discuss Until we all Die! - Hafiz Crisis, war, injustice, and violence have a certain logic—and social change processes working to address these challenges carry a similar, reactionary logic. How can love help us to step out of the perceived reality of “what is possible” in building peace during conflict? Turning points in conflicts and crises are often mysterious, require acts of enormous creativity, and a willingness to risk. Social change is an artistic act, mobilizing love and prophetic imagination–and it requires us to step into the mystery of the unknown that lies beyond the far too familiar landscape of violence. In this series, join Host Serena Bian in speaking with three people who bear witness to the best and worst of humanity, holding a courageous moral imagination. Working and witnessing the front lines of injustice, war, climate change, these peacebuilders, mystics, storytellers hold space for the miraculous to emerge, refusing to be bound by a perceived reality of “what is possible.” Events in the series Monday, April 29 | Deepa Patel Weds, May 29 | Aljosie Aldrich Harding Tues, June 25 | Kalyanee Mam View Kalyanee's film “Lost World” (an excerpt is featured in this podcast) at: https://emergencemagazine.org/feature/lost-world/ Kalyanee Mam Born in Battambang, Cambodia, during the Khmer Rouge regime, which claimed the lives of over 2 million people, Kalyanee and her family were displaced from both their land and their home. Kalyanee has spent most of her life trying to understand the root cause of war, destruction, and displacement and how we can return home again. After returning to Cambodia and spending years living with families in the forests, on the Tonle Sap, and in the countryside, she understands how intimately connected their way of life is to the land, forests, and water and the neak ta or land and water spirits that protect them. Her debut documentary feature, A River Changes Course, won the World Cinema Grand Jury Prize for Documentary at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival and the Golden Gate Award for Best Feature Documentary at the San Francisco International Film Festival. Her other works include the documentary shorts Lost World, Fight for Areng Valley, Between Earth & Sky, and Cries of Our Ancestors. She has also worked as a cinematographer and associate producer on the 2011 Oscar-winning documentary Inside Job. She is currently working on a new feature documentary, The Fire and the Bird's Nest. Serena Bian Serena is pursuing a life that remains attentive to the tenderness of a snail's soft body and reverent to the miracle of its spiraled shell. Working with U.S. Surgeon General Dr. Vivek Murthy, Serena serves as a Special Advisor and brings a spiritual and systemic understanding to the public health crisis of loneliness and isolation. As a chaplain-in-training, Serena is pursuing questions of how we chaplain the end of extractive systems that isolate communities from themselves and one another. Massive worlds require massive worldbuilding -- or do they? Sometimes, a narrower, character-centric scope can create a tight and compelling narrative while still crafting an expansive world. Guest Rebecca Roanhorse joins us to discuss how knowing your characters can help you konw your world. What does it mean to let character lead worldbuilding? How does that define your scope and how much worldbuilding you show the reader? How does this change wth a single versus a multi- POV story? When you let character lead, how do you avoid a world that feels like it was constructed solely to be an obstacle course for that one character to move through? We discuss technique for all this and more! Sidebar: It's still Hugo voting season! This week the I am reading from Zofia Weaver's book 'OTHER REALITIES? The enigma of Franek Kluski's mediumship' and Kristi Pederson's book 'We Are Not Alone: My Extraterrestrial Contact'.Zofia WeaverFranek Kluski produced what might justifiably be described as the widest and most striking range of phenomena in the history of physical mediumship. A Pole whose professions included banking and journalism, his involvement with psychical research lasted for a brief period between 1918 and 1925. During that time he took part in meticulously documented séances devised and attended by eminent researchers. Much of the information about him has until now been available only in Polish, and today references to him in English tend to be restricted to the famous ‘Kluski hands', the paraffin wax moulds casts of which were intended to become the ultimate Permanent Paranormal Object. Theories as to how such moulds might have been produced continue to cause controversy, yet this was just one aspect of the phenomena surrounding this remarkable man. Based on original Polish sources, by painting a detailed portrait of the man in the context of his times this book aims to rectify the omission of Kluski from the gallery of important mediums.BioZofia Weaver, PhD, is a council member of the Society for Psychical Research in England. She is a former editor of the Journal of the Society for Psychical Research. She is coauthor, with the late Mary Rose Barrington and the late professor Ian Stevenson of A World in a Grain of Sand: The Clairvoyance of Stefan Ossowiecki. She is author of Other Realities? The Enigma of Franek Kluski's Mediumship.Amazon link http://rb.gy/7vlcchttps://www.spr.ac.uk/about/people/zofia-weaverKristi PedersonEveryone has pieces of themselves that they keep hidden from the rest of the world. I was one of those people. Usually, the hidden pieces are those things we're not proud of or in which we fear judgment from others if exposed. In my case, it was both. After a 2010 declaration to part of my family that I would heal no matter what it looked like, my healing journey began by working with childhood wounds. As I worked through family issues, I found my self-confidence growing and my fears diminishing. Courage showed its face. I was giving myself permission to be me.One of my favorite Oscar Wilde quotes is, "Be yourself. Everyone else is already taken." This quote is humorous but profound, which makes it perfect. As I claimed myself step by step, I noticed less judgment from others and from myself towards others. Each year I uncovered a smidgeon more of who I was and who I wanted to be, but there always seemed to be a stopping point that, if revealed, would feel like I'd crossed the Rubicon or to the point of no return. I wasn't yet brave enough to go beyond that point.I was a closeted psychic medium most of my life but had been subjected to enough judgment from others when uncensored things would fly out of my mouth. I learned early to keep quiet. It took three years of working with alternative healers to finally claim that part of myself. I knew it was okay to be a psychic medium and that it was a gift I could share with others. I was making progress but still not brave enough to reveal my biggest secret – that I was a contactee, a person who had alien abduction experiences.Divulging this part of my life gave me pause. I watched the news and listened to reports about UFOs. The people who claimed to have seen a craft were always made to look absurd. For many years, I refused to set myself up to be ridiculed. However, there comes a time in many people's lives where it just doesn't matter anymore; you must give up and retreat into yourself or you must be brave and stand up for yourself. For me, that time is now. There is more than my reputation and integrity at stake. What is at stake is the healing of other people who have had similar experiences but have no place to go, no one to talk to, and no one who will understand what they've been through. I am that person. I am here to help and to understand. Dr. Jack Kasher extended a hand to help me more than two decades ago, and now it's time to pay it forward.BioKristi is the subject of a documentary titled We Are Not Alone which premiered January 2023. The Sound Chaser Progressive Rock Podcast is on the air. Sound Chaser takes a trip to Middle-Earth. On the show this time I have music inspired by the literary works of J.R.R. Tolkien. No matter what one thinks about the Rings of Power series, one cannot deny that it has sparked renewed interest in all things Tolkien. So, I have collected music that is either inspired by Tolkien's Middle-Earth literature, or comes from acts whose names are inspired by Tolkien's Middle-Earth. There are even a few tunes that have both touchpoints. It's time for some fantasy fun. Playlist1. Styx - Lords of the Ring, from Pieces of Eight2. Welcome to Prophecy Radio, a Percy Jackson podcast dedicated to all of Rick Riordan's past, present, and future projects! Co-hosts Karen Rought and Kristen Kranz discuss the latest news in the Percy Jackson/Rick Riordan Presents fandom, then discuss Walker Scobell in The Adam Project and how he'll make the perfect Percy, as well as read Percy Jackson and the Titan's Curse chapters 15 and 16. New episodes of Prophecy Radio air weekly, and all ages are welcome to tune in. News and Updates (00:01:12) #SeaOfMonstersWeek is coming to a close, but we're primed and ready for #TitansCurseWeek! April 19 seemed to be a pretty big day for book releases. First up, we've got the Aru Shah and the End of Time graphic novel. Oh, and don't miss the Jambavan article on Read Riordan. Then we've got Fevered Star by Rebecca Roanhorse (book 2 in the Between Earth and Sky series). Lastly, don't forget about Flirting with Fate by J.C. Cervantes. This week, we also got the announcement of Roshani Chokshi's new book, The Last Tale of the Flower Bride. Rick thanks the fans for putting Daughter of the Deep on the NYT bestsellers list for 25 weeks, and gives us an update on the screenplay. We also get a little update on the Kane Chronicles movie, as well as the Solaneglo book. Did you catch the chat between Rick Riordan and Daniel José Older? Do you know what well-known author helped him come up with the title Ballad & Dagger? We've also got a brand new Rick blog post to discuss! First up, a reminder that Rick is no longer on social media and that Ashlee Latimer posts from his accounts. Annabeth and Grover casting will be soon! Will Walker dye his hair black? Does Rick care if Annabeth is blonde? And we get some more reassurance that this adaptation is going to be awesome. The Adam Project starring Walker Scobell (00:21:27) How did we feel about The Adam Project the first time we watched it? What about the second? Surprising no one, we both really loved this one. Ryan Reynolds is always funny, but Walker really held his own. We talk about our favorite scenes and lines from the movie—ones that really remind us of Percy Jackson. There are even some shots from the movie that look like they could be from the show. Walker is going to be such a sassy Percy, and we are ready for it! Can't you just imagine him going toe-to-toe with Ares? Walker is a great physical actor, and that's going to come in handy for this show. Adam and his mom's relationship is a little snarkier than Percy and Sally's, but we can't wait to see it play out on screen. Speaking of moms, did you recognize Catherine Keener? The Maya/Adam standoff is not wholly unlike the Ares/Percy standoff. We're still curious how that scene at the end is going to play out. It's totally a lightsaber. There are so many scenes from Lightning Thief that will be awesome to see on screen, especially now that we know Walker is playing Percy. The Adam Project proves Walker Scobell has the capacity to do all sorts of roles. We're so excited for this!!! Chapter Reviews (00:41:43) Kristen's really working on those brief recaps. It's time to discuss Percy Jackson and the Titan's Curse chapter 15! Hank and Chuck were pretty fantastic. But what does it look like back at the dam with the statues missing? It's cool that Sally can see through the Mist. There is so much more Rachel Elizabeth Dare to come. Nereus is basically a fish leprechaun. Karen stands by her love of Bessie. Did you know the origins of the manticore? Was Dr. Thorn or Kronos weaving some sort of magic over Thalia, or was she simply thinking the whole situation through? After all, she has valid reasons to be mad at Zeus and the Olympians. Maybe Mr. D does care about Peter Johnson? This whole scene was pretty spectacular. Now it's time for Titan's Curse chapter 16! We finally know for sure who Zoë's hero was. Can you believe Percy sacrificed the Nimean lion skin? Is no one worried about Grover!? The Chases are kind of…great? It was so interesting meeting Annabeth's dad for the first time. We don't blame her for not always getting along with him, but there's also no malice on his end, so it's easy to forgive him. You can definitely tell why Athena fell in love with him. Zeus made the wrong move trying to get rid of Thalia. And what about Percy and Zoë!? Atlas is not the nicest guy. Percy and Annabeth's reunion was supercharged, and we're here for it.. Feedback (01:20:22) Laura agrees with us—Tyson is the best! Huge thanks to Nicolaas for being impressed by our varied casting choices for Percy Jackson and the Olympians. Thanks for listening, and tune in next time for episode 30, where we'll talk about the god Ares and discuss our fancasting for Percy Jackson and the Olympians. Amanda Skenandore is a local 'to my neck of the woods' Colorado girl, now in Vegas. She's a historical novelist. And a nurse! And I didn't know that until our discussion. I guess I should have picked up on it when reading her newest book, coming out THIS WEEK! Tomorrow, July 27th actually, The Second Life of Mirielle West. It is set in the 1930s in the U.S. leper colony in Louisiana. Yes, you read that right! I didn't know the U.S. had a leper colony and didn't know that folks in the U.S. still have leprosy today till I read her book. You'll learn a lot by reading it and listening to this discussion. It was amazing to discuss leprosy and covid with an infection disease prevention nurse. You'll definitely be thinking about what our covid historical fiction will be like, thus history has its eyes on you. Thanks Hamilton! Amanda Skenandore is the award-winning author of three historical novels, The Second Life of Mirielle West, The Undertaker’s Assistant, and Between Earth & Sky. She’s also a registered nurse and certified infection preventionist. When she’s not writing or chasing germs, Amanda spends her time curled up on the couch with a book and cup of tea, or propagating her many houseplants. She lives in Las Vegas with her husband and their pet turtle Lenore. https://www.amandaskenandore.com/ At the time of our discussion in May, events were iffy, but now she has a bunch lined up: https://www.amandaskenandore.com/events/ Here's her 3 novels, listed with the most recent first. John Clark is Professor Emeritus at Loyola University, and director of La Terre Institute for Community and Ecology, and author. his latest book is Between Earth and Empire: From the Necrocene to the Beloved Community. In this wide-ranging and hard-hitting discussion, John analyses the roots of the environmental plight we are facing— what he calls the Necrocene- a period of mass extinction and reversal. He explores the roots of the problems through Murray Bookchin's Social Ecology, and he considers the revitalising potential of communities to fuel creativity and regeneration-a recurring theme throughout this discussion -as he calls out for a revolutionary communitarian approach to the problems we are facing. John also discusses what we can learn from Buddhist teachings on impermanence, and also highlights some lessons from indigenous communities in how we relate to nature.
Episode 125 - ANNOYINGLY LOUD MOTORCYCLES?! Harry Potter fans rejoice this week! Fantastic Beasts 3 has been confirmed to start production by lead Eddie Redmayne and the Hogwarts RPG game announcement looks magnificent! Dwayne Johnson apparently destroys his own security fence because his power went out and he might be a little bit late for work. What a donkey. There’s a Robocop Prequel series in the making which is going to tell the story of the first films Corporate Villian ‘Dick Jones’... which means No Robocop. So why then? Harry Potter open-world game coming! PS5 Pricing and Release Date confirmed! POWER MOVE. Game publishing company Bethesda who publishes Skyrim, Doom, Wolfenstein, dishonored, Fallout, etc… and all the companies connected, was just bought by Xbox for 7.5 billion dollars! In response to the Microsoft/Bethesda Buyout, Playstation fans are calling out Playstation to buy Konami! More news, with the preorders being available for PS5 and Xbox Series X, not only are people struggling to place their order because of sheer volume but idiots have also bought a bunch of Xbox One X’s by mistake. Figures show the sales numbers of One X’s have skyrocketed! AT HOME WITH 2c3pod!! Dylan Watched: the lighthouse Mitchell Watched: ‘Scoob’ and Ted Lasso TRAILER PARK! ‘The Father’ - Our first trailer off the park this week is one that took me a little by surprise even though it shouldn’t have! Oscar-winner Sir Anthony Hopkins leads the way alongside Oscar winner Olivia Coleman in this gripping story about a father and daughter coming to terms with Hopkins' dwindling mind. At the chipper age of 83, Hopkins believes he is still as ‘spritely’ and ‘aware’ as ever of the world around him, but seeing his daughter go to all kinds of lengths to ‘help’ him he becomes confused and angry about this. He begins to question people he should know, habits he should be used to, and even the very fabric of reality. Is this just a tale of an older gentleman losing grip on reality or is something much sinister going on? Florian Zellar’s directing DeButt is coming to theatres, Jan 2021. ‘Moonbase 8’ - Our second trailer this week is one I’m not too sure about. It all sounds fine and dandy, John C Reily, Tim Heidecker, and Fred Armisen all starring in a comedy with heart full of Goofy moments, funny one-liners and moments of real drama… but my concern comes with that it is set in the desert and is about them being successful astronauts… I’m not going to say what I think it is copying, I’ll hold back on that. BUT the story at hand revolves around the three gentlemen as they replicate life in space, seemingly competing with a neighboring ‘test’ moon site for a spot aboard the next space mission. They go through expected challenges like filtering urine to drink, to intense desert storms. All with their own reasons for wanting to space like proving their love to their father, wanting to succeed after a failed marriage and even to spread the good word about Jesus Christ! It does seem funny and full of heart but hell, I’m gonna say it: Poormans ‘SpaceForce’?! Coming to showtime November 8. ‘Nocturne’ - Hold the phones everybody. Hold the phones. Could we be looking at Mitchell’s potential double-wide this week? This gripping film (writer/director Zu Quirke’s Feature Film DeButt!) tells the story of two sisters, both incredibly successful classical musicians vying for a spot in a highly regarded, prestigious classical musical school! What? That doesn’t sound gripping? That doesn’t sound thrilling? Well as we say each week, pause the podcast and watch this trailer. From the producers of ‘Get Out’ and ‘Whiplash’ comes this Blumhouse and Amazon production about two sisters, both incredible musicians but one is always in the other's shadow. When a student at the prestigious classical music school kills herself, there is an open spot and the sisters compete for that spot. When you’ve been living in your sister's shadow for so long, how far will you go to step into the light? Full of demonic elements, maybe a drip/drab of witchcraft, and a hell of a lot of psychological mind fuckery, this film with a ‘basic bitch’ plot is sure to take us on an intense ride! The best part yet, coming to Amazon, 13th of October. ‘Evil Eye’ - Now that I have tricked you all brilliantly with my fantastic writing I can tell you this is the second of four films coming to Amazon next month from Blumhouse productions! How did we get so lucky?! ‘Evil Eye’ tells the story of a young Indian woman living in New Orleans. When she meets a charming gentleman, her heart is filled with joy and it seems like the man of her dreams has arrived. She is overjoyed and cannot wait to tell her mother back home in India and her mother is equally thrilled with the news! That is until she starts to have flashbacks to her dark past and a terribly abusive relationship she once suffered through and the more she sees and learns about her daughter's new boyfriend, the more convinced she becomes that this man is the reincarnation of her once long time abuser. Suspenseful, dramatic, and genuinely thrilling, this story looks like it hits all the right notes and could be a sleeper hit. Coming to Amazon, October 13! ‘Between Earth and Sky’ - Now there is some mild confusion about the name of this film but it seems like the film's title is being changed to ‘The Lie’ for it’s Amazon release (this being the final Blumhouse film coming to Amazon next month). ‘The Lie’ tells the story of a small family, a mother, father and their teenage daughter and how one simple act of kindness can bring a family together while tearing another’s apart. While heading to a dance camp, Kayla and her father Jay see Kayla's best friend on the side of the road. When they pick her up to give her a lift to the dance camp, they stop off for a pee break on a secluded snowy road. All seems well until blood-curdling screams are heard and when Jay comes running he finds his daughter on a bridge saying she pushed her friend off and killed her. Now they must decide, do they pretend like they never saw her friend cover their daughter's murderous tracks or do they reveal the truth about their potentially psychotic child? Coming to Amazon October 6! ‘Black Box’- Our final of the four Blumhouse/Amazon productions this week comes to us in the form of the directorial DeButt from Emmanuel Osei-Kuffour! Black box tells the story of a man who has suffered an incredible brain injury from a car accident that killed his wife. Now he struggles through life with his daughter as he tries to piece back together with the fragmented memories of his past. He finds some hope when a lovely scientist one day says she has a new experimental treatment that could help him recover his memories. Yay! That’s fantastic right?! Well, maybe not so much as his memories seem to be overtaken by Exorcist looking mother fuckers!! Exactly what you would expect from Blumhouse and oh boy, this one is a keeper!! Coming to Amazon ‘Wandavision’ - Our final trailer this week is one Dylan and I have been waiting for 111 episodes for! (Seriously, go back to episode 14 and ENJOY). Now I have no god damn idea what the plot is for Wandavision other than it telling of The Scarlet Witch and Vision (from the MCU) living together as a couple seemingly in parallel universes or maybe even the afterlife in many strange scenarios. I honestly have no idea. BUT, there is a charming supporting cast, fascinating possibility of a dark undertone and I am getting serious Milk Visions here so I am all on board!! Oh wait… coming to Disney Plus… damn, December this year! ‘YASSS OR PASSS’ September 24th - (Glendale, Kotara & Tuggerah) The High Note Four Kids and It Cats and Dogs 3: Paws Unite ‘If you’re THIRSTY for a Recommendation, May I suggest taking a drink from this Stream-ing service?!’ (Top Pick From Each Service for the week by Mitchell) Netflix - Enola Holmes just came out yesterday. Stan - Mean Girls, duh. Amazon Prime - Knives Out. Today Erin dives into some deep thinking about the current coronavirus crisis and recommends some books on grief, as well as some tips on how to think about finding reading time in these days of idleness and fear. Additionally, she reviews the book Between Earth and Sky which follows an interesting and saddening part of our US history when it was common practice to pull Native American children from the reservations and put them into "savage-taming" boarding schools.

Swiss physicist Auguste Piccard opened two new worlds in the 20th century. He was the first person to fly 10 miles above the earth and the first to travel 2 miles beneath the sea, using inventions that opened the doors to these new frontiers. In this week's episode of the Futility Closet podcast we'll follow Piccard on his historic journeys into the sky and the sea. We'll also admire some beekeeping serendipity and puzzle over a sudden need for locksmiths. Intro: Herbert Hoover's doctor invented a game to keep him in shape. Called "the queen of canopy research," Nalini Nadkarni explores the rich, vital world found in the tops of trees. Dr. Nadkarni has spent two decades climbing the trees of Costa Rica, Papua New Guinea, the Amazon and the Pacific Northwest, exploring the world of animals and plants that live in the canopy and never come down; and how this upper layer of the forest interacts with the world on the ground. A pioneering researcher in this area, Nadkarni created the Big Canopy Database to help researchers store and understand the rich trove of data she and others are uncovering. Nadkarni taught biology at Evergreen State College in Washington for twenty years, followed by University of Utah, but her work outside the academy is equally fascinating -- using nontraditional vectors to teach the general public about trees and the ecosystem. She worked with prison inmates to grow moss for the horticulture trade, to relieve the collecting pressure on wild mosses and to inspire a new reverence for nature—named by TIME magazine as “One of the best inventions of 2014.” She holds a PhD from University of Washington and a BS from Brown University/University of British Columbia. Her numerous awards include a Guggenheim Fellowship, an Aldo Leopold Fellowship, the Archie Carr Medal for Conservation. She's the author of over 100 scholarly articles and four books, including Between Earth and Sky: Our Intimate Connections to Trees (read an excerpt or purchase book: https://www.ucpress.edu/book.php?isbn=9780520261655)

"I dream of a world in which people speak more openly honestly and express their feelings more accurately. That fascinates me!" - Greg Bennick I am completely in love with Greg and over the course of these episodes have become a fan of his work, music, and spoken word. His song "The Wounds Never Have To Win" with his band Between Earth, and Sky may very well become my life theme song. Greg is so much more than his music, spoken word, philanthropy. He's a humanist, an activist, a champion for those who suffer and clearly heard from these episodes, a great coach, and in my mind a guru like partaker and sharer of wisdom. His lifetime studies through the life and works of Ernest Becker inspired me. Greg is currently working on producing a new film documentary on Ernest Becker, so stay tuned for that. THIS CONVERSATION LEADS US TO DISCUSS: The sexy, sultry embrace of al of the other god's. The Legacy Project - Traveling to Trauma Areas for Study of Culture After Trauma and Their Need for Dictators. Deep talks of the pull and the captivity of institutional religion. Knowing yourself and being yourself. Greg’s passion and many facets of his work Punk, Metal, and Hardcore Culture. Music Art and Comedy are the only communities that are still diving into their pain and expressing it in unfiltered therapeutic ways. Humanity is in need of art, but will true artist ever be able to feed their families with the art they create? How do we keep the arts growing in our society for those that need and desire it? Living in the moment with others, and learning to live in their moments with them. The things we do to try and attach meaning to our lives which are completely unnecessary and create a lot of pressure on us. The pursuit of pleasure and chaos at the same time. The privatization of water and the depletion of it. If a Christian prays to cope, what does an atheist do? Art giving life to culture and individuals. The plan to save the Arcturusians has begun as Aguire returns. This is the end of the book Between Earth and Arcturus.
The Earth is under attack by the renegade General Hebert. This episode takes place entirely in the Navy Command Center near West Point, the capital of Earth, and is seen from Admiral Higgs point of view. The Starship Hanno has only been gone seven days, and General Hebert's rebel fleet entered the solar system just as the Hanno was departing for the Zone. There are only a few episodes left in the Between Earth and Arcturus saga. The sequel is in the works and will have much more from the Native Arcturusian point of view as the monarchy and people of Arcturus start seeing more visitors from Earth.
Captain Poluka is disturbed by the idea of Earthmen mating with natives of Arcturus-4. When he meets with the representative of the Grand Matriarch of the Old Rulers, Poluka is sympathetic to their views, and suspicious of his own officers. A note to my Russian listeners: It is simply a coincidence of language that the alien lawyer's name sounds like it means something a bit nasty. Ivan Tershensky laughs about it all of the time. Chief Engineer Braun doesn't know if it is safe to show it to the captain because of the captain's erratic behavior. This is the 30th episode of the novel "Between Earth and Arcturus". An episode guide can be found at www.workingthegalaxy.com by clicking on Show Notes. Don't miss the prequel episodes where you can learn more about Captain Paul Poluka's missing brother Clifford, as well as Lynda's brother Gentry.

This is chapter 5 of the novel "Between Earth and Arcturus" by James Prescott. Admiral Higgs takes Admiral Fisher to the capital of Earth, West Point, where we meet Vice President Batastia and the inner circle of evil men who now rule the known galaxy. Admiral Higgs has taken Fisher under his wing to guide him up the through the ranks, but is beginning to realize that Fisher is a monster.
This is chapters 2 and 3 together of the novel Between Earth and Arcturus by James Prescott, which tell how Lynda Stokes objects to Paul wanting to bring Aguire into the rebellion, but finally agrees to to check him out in person and, possibly, allow him to join Captain Poluka on the new ship, which will put Aguire on the path to treason whether he likes it or not. Aguire meets Captain Poluka at the McConnell Spaceport near New Wichata. There he runs into a policeman whom he knows, and learns that the New Federation is arresting people for protesting, people who are never seen again. Aguire learns more about the new government and finds that he has a new path to follow, still unaware that he is being manipulated.
Here we meet José Aguire, an Exploration Corps commander whose career is in jeopardy after a new government seizes control of the Earth. Aguire's old enemy has been promoted to Admiral after helping to overthrow the old Federation by betraying its leaders, and Aguire must find a way to keep the Admiral from getting control of his future. Things are getting bad on Earth, and Aguire wants a ship of his own to command. This is the first chapter of the book Between Earth and Arcturus. For the prequel to the book, check the episode menu on the podcast link (it looks like a galaxy) to find earlier episodes.

Conspirators 21:12 Meet Clifford Poluka's younger brother, Paul, who appeared briefly in the episode 'Himilco part 1'. It's been ten years since the Starship Himilco disappeared along with Cliff and Gentry. Paul is now a captain in the Exploration Corps, and is conspiring against the government with Gentry's father and sister. Here we also meet Lynda Stokes, 22 year old daughter of GJ Stokes (Gentry Junior, father of Gentry Stokes III who was featured in Himilco), the head of Stokes Enterprises and the designer of the newest and best starship. Lynda is a prodigy with great intelligence, but can't cook worth a damn. Her brother Gentry has been missing for ten years and she stubbornly refuses to believe that he could be lost forever. This chapter was originally written to be the first chapter of the novel Between Earth and Arcturus, but didn't make it into the final draft.
The Starship Himilco is the first story James Prescott wrote about adventures of Earthmen travelling to Arcturus in the 28th century. This short story takes place ten years before the events in the novel Between Earth and Arcturus, and was intended to be the prequel to the novel, but didn't make it into the final draft. I am presenting it here in two parts. Episode 1Himilco part 1 Gentry Stokes III was born in the year 2766 and is the son of the richest man in the galaxy. He is a young man troubled by superhuman strength which he must hide from the world and a belief that his grandfather was an alien. Unfortunately, scientific opinion has concluded that the probability of aliens in galaxy is zero, so Gentry's obsession with his ancestry lands him in mental hospital until Clifford Poluka gives him the opportunity to prove the existence of aliens. This troubled young man is also a mathematics prodigy who, at the age of 19 years, finds a way out of the mental hospital and onto the Starship Himilco for the first manned mission to Arcturus. Episode 2Himilco part 2 Gentry is making friends aboard the Starship Himilco during the long voyage to Arcturus. They must pass through the Zone, which no vessel has ever done before. When they find the Himilco cannot maintain a constant speed they discover the secret of the Zone that has been destroying every probe sent there, and a radio signal leads them to a damaged alien vessel.
