Share your thoughts about our conversation! When you think of an intelligent person, who do you imagine? Perhaps they're scholarly, quick-thinking, or possess a rare ability to seemingly know all that there is to know. But intelligence is infinitely more than this! As Daniel Susser teaches us this week, intelligence is greater than the sum of our cognitive parts: it is bodily, inter-connected and contextual. It is a tapestry of inherited, micro influences that makes us each see the macro world in different ways.So if intelligence is collective, how can leaders unlock it from the organisational organism? Daniel shares all in this fascinating, wordly conversation that dances so beautifully between science, religion and ritual. It will stretch your thinking and leave you with a whole host of practical tips to extract, celebrate and journey into the intelligence of your organisation!Find out about:What it means to be an Intelligent Team - and how we can create themWhy organisations must reject their implicit assumptions about what ‘intelligence' meansWhat macrocognition means in organisationsIntroducing organisational rituals for collaboration, belonging and shared purposeHow leaders can identify imbalances in their organisations using opponent processingDon't miss the next episode: subscribe to the show with your favourite podcast player.Links:Watch the video recording of this episode on YouTube.Connect to Daniel Susser:find out how to work with Daniel embodiedagility.co.ukRead more about intelligent teams intelligentteams.substack.comA good starting point is this blog https://intelligentteams.substack.com/p/the-intelligent-teams-manifestoSupport the show✨✨✨Subscribe to our newsletter to receive a free 1-page summary of each upcoming episode directly to your inbox, or explore our eBooks featuring 50-episode compilations for even more facilitation insights. Today we're gonna tackle one of the best known contemplative clichés: being in the present moment and inhabiting the now.The present moment seems to be a state we aspire towards, but are rarely given practical information about how to actually achieve. But today's guest, Matthew Brensilver offers just that— practical information on how to achieve being present. We also explore his argument that when painful memories surface in meditation, it acts as a kind of exposure therapy that acclimates us to the things we may not want to face. This is Matthew Brensilver‘s second appearance on the show. He teaches retreats at the Insight Retreat Center, Spirit Rock and other Buddhist centers. Before committing to teach meditation full-time, he spent years doing research on addiction pharmacotherapy at the UCLA Center for Behavioral and Addiction Medicine. Matthew is the co-author of two books about meditation during adolescence and continues to be interested in the unfolding dialogue between Buddhism and science. In this episode we talk about:What “be present” actually meansWhat to do when Buddhist teachings or meditation instructions feel out of reach and when we start compulsively self-assessing against themWhat to do when a memory arises in meditation, especially a difficult memoryThe brain's tendency toward constant predictionThe benefits of meditation retreatAnd distinguishing between true alarms and false alarmsFull Shownotes: https://www.tenpercent.com/podcast-episode/matthew-brensilver-476See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Thanks for listening to another episode of The Women's Fittest Podcast! This is episode #104Stephanie Hammermeister is a figure pro now therapist and pregnant mother to be. In this episode she talks very introspectively about what bodybuilding taught her and what she took from that for her current life. This episode is very thought provoking and helpful to anyone trying to understand oneself, what drives passions, what creates perspective, and what ones mind is capable of. I hope you enjoy this episode of self-reflection and education in a therapeutic self-healing view from only someone as observational as Stephanie . We do briefly talk about her rise to the top to the Olympia stage, which happened within about a years time from first show to the O. Within a few years on the pro level Stephanie hung it up that quickly having many sponsorships and thriving  because of the uncomfortable push to use performance enhancing drugs to further her physique. The details of this were edited out per her request and I respected that petition for her. But the message is still clear. The main takeaway of this conversation is really about the internal dialogue and voices within us all, helping us, and guiding us. It's about “if we choose to” listen to each to make choices with action for the direction of our life we will go where we want to be. I've admired Stephanie for many years and this interview was near and dear to me as my mom is a behavior therapist, and I enjoy and pride myself on educating myself about human behavior. I love discussing the why of who we each are who we are. One reason of many, why I do the podcast. And we can all revel in the human experience because we share similar plights. Thank you Stephanie for your time. (This episode was recorded way back in early December as I had put off editing it. But listening to the convo again I realized it was perfect timing to publish it now.) I hope y'all enjoy! Topics Covered: Deep dive into the psychology of why you chose to compete or get into bodybuilding How words matter and our minds hear our thoughts and speech The purpose of therapy and benefits: for example “I ‘m sorry” and what it means and how to use it Social media Hypnosis Her bodybuilding and competing background Using the helpful phrase “I also know” Finding the root cause of coping behavior How to get the best connection out of technology and in person relationships and what that meansWhat spurs happiness or sadness Dealing with negative comments or people on social media Reactive responses and reactive comments and how to challenge and change that if it's how you tend to respond Placebo effect Hypnotherapy Her struggle with getting pregnant How pregnancy has been healing for her and what it's been like so far“If we choose to” Should women over 40 do a bucket-list bodybuilding competition The negative message of “me versus me”Finding intention with what you're doing (that's your motivation)Her book: Challenge Your Circumstance URL link for purchase: https://www.thesayge.com/storeMentions: @lady__hammer@__sayge___Stephanie's website: http://www.thesayge.com/Subscribe to The Women's Fittest podcast as new episodes drop every Monday and throughout the week. One thing that changes most dramatically is the number of toys around the house- I am terrified that child number 2 could lead to a doubling of the toy rate.  That's where Whirli comes in. When a child loses interest in a toy (which believe me can happen with surprising regularity) you can return it and swap it for a new one. Perhaps you've just moved to a brand new country and you're trying to navigate the culture while still trying to preserve your roots. If you're a male coach working with female athletes, it's an absolute must-listen, but even if you're not, assuming you have a wife or a mother or a daughter or a sister or a female friend, or if you belong to a club where there are female athletes, you'll learn something valuable. So please keep on listening. When I decided to invite someone on the podcast to talk about women's health, there was only one person I could possibly consider - the brilliant Baz Moffat. As a former GB rower turned women's health coach, with a huge passion and enthusiasm for her subject, she had the complete package, so I was thrilled when she agreed to join me. Baz started her career as an elite athlete, spending three years as a member of the GB rowing team and winning medals at the World Championships and World Cup. She now works as a women's health coach, with a specialism in pelvic floor, core, nutrition and women's wellness. She is one of the co-founders of The Well HQ which provides much-needed education on women's health to both individuals and businesses. We could have talked for hours, but managed to keep it to just over an hour, during which we discussed:Baz's career as a rower and her unusually late start in rowingHow healthy her life was as an athleteThe challenges talking about women's health in sport and the workplace and the particular challenges for male coachesHow parents and coaches can get the conversation started about women's healthBody literacy and how little we understand about our bodiesThe importance of not judging people for their lack of knowledgeThe benefits to performance of understanding our menstrual cycleEffects of contraceptive pill on sporting performanceExercising during pregnancy and after childbirth - what is safe?Benefits of consulting a women's health physio in second trimesterTraining through perimenopause and menopauseImportance of strength training and what that actually meansWhat to prioritise if only have 10 minutes for yourself a dayAvoiding overwhelmMisconceptions about core stability (and what is included in the core)Importance of pelvic floor exercisesHow to get advice and reminders for pelvic floor exercisesThe Well HQ  - its mission to improve the health of female athletes and to help male coaches to address women's health issues without being inappropriate or creepyResources:You can find the Clue app for tracking your menstrual cycle hereYou can sign up for webinars with The Well on everything from understanding the pelvic floor to menstruation and menopause here.Check out and download the NHS Squeezy app here.

Debbie Weil interviews the one and only Seth Godin.Seth writes one of the most popular blogs in the world, read by more than a million people. He’s been blogging abut marketing for almost 20 years but his topic is really life: how to live well and fully. He blogs every day, seven days a week. Suffice it to say that when Seth talks, or writes, people listen. It's hard to put your finger on exactly what makes Seth so appealing. He is generous as a person. He's full of ideas, often counterintuitive, that he gently urges you to consider. And he always makes you think. For Debbie and for thousands of others, he’s an unofficial mentor, sitting on your shoulder like Jiminy Cricket, and challenging you to think bigger, or deeper - and always, more truthfully. Debbie got to know Seth about 15 years ago. He was holding funky workshops in a walk-up space in Chinatown in lower Manhattan. They were very Seth. There were no handouts, you were not allowed to take notes, he encouraged questions by handing out prizes and he served weird (at the time) vegetarian snacks. Always, there was his insistence on authenticity and consistency. In other words, be clear about who you are and what you do and why it matters. Debbie was working on her book about blogging (The Corporate Blogging Book) and he suggested that she call herself “the Mona Lisa of Blogging.” She did, for a time!Seth has published 19 bestselling books (The Dip and Linchpin are two of Debbie's favorites). Although he may be best known as an author and blogger, in the past five years Seth has increasingly defined  himself as a teacher. He’s gotten deeply into online learning through Akimbo, the organization he founded  that, with a small team, is the hub of his online projects. It’s also the name of his podcast. But take the emphasis off online learning because it’s really the future of learning that he’s interested in. A future that leverages the wisdom of your cohort, the people you are enrolled with, and that requires engagement, generosity and kindness. One of his online projects is a podcasting workshop. It’s where this podcast was born and where Debbie met producer Julie-Roxane.Debbie invited him on the show after he blogged recently about taking a gap year. She figured it was a perfect chance to hear more of his thoughts about gap years, for adults or students, and how or why such an experience might be relevant right now. And to find out what else was on his mind during this unprecedented time. They talk about:Whether or not he has paused over the past several monthsHow his life is an art project and what that meansWhat you might consider doing with your time during the pandemicWhy in-person learning is not necessarily betterThe future of business travelThe importance of mindset (and how changing that might be enough right now)His thoughts about aging (he works very hard and realizes that can't last forever)And building the habit of initiative Mentioned in the episode or useful linksAbout Seth (author, entrepreneur, and teacher)Akimbo  (home of altMBA and other programs including The Podcasting Workshop)Seth's podcastSeth's 19 booksConsider a gap year (Seth's June 1, 2020 blog post)Seth's 30 years of projectsLewis Hyde's The Gift (a book Seth recommends)Inside Seth's Chinatown workshop (Debbie's 2005 blog post)David Brooks' legacy vs. resume virtues Support this podcast:Leave a review on iTunes: it means so much!Subscribe via Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, Stitcher or Spotify Credits:Host: Debbie WeilProducer: Julie-Roxane KrikorianPodcast websiteMusic by Manuel Senfft Connect with us:Email: thegapyearpodcast@gmail.comTwitter: @debbieweilInsta: @debbieweilDebbie and Sam's blog: Gap Year After Sixty

In Episode 101 I was super fortunate to have the opportunity to sit down with well known National Geographic writer and author, David Quammen, to talk about zoonotic diseases and mitigating the risk of future pandemics. A fascinating area of science that gives birth to yet another reason to be mindful of our lifestyles. Within this episode we specifically cover:What zoonotic diseases areThe origin of zoonotic diseasesWhat a 'spillover' meansWhat reservoir hosts areHIV, Ebola and other Zoonotic DiseasesTransmissibility and fatality rateThe likely origin of COVID-19How human activity affects the risk of these emerging novel diseasesmuch moreFollowing this episode I get the feeling many of you will be inspired to read David's book 'Spillover' which you can find along with all of his other books on his website. If you enjoyed the episode, or have follow up questions, be sure to let David know on twitter. Life gets busy, there's so many thing competing for your attention so it's easy to get caught up in other people's priorities. "I just didn't have time""I was too busy""I don't have enough time"I've said all those things and probably many more and that's probably why I have become a bit curious about the concept of time and how we use it.This week's episode is about finding ways that you can actually find time for you.In this episode Shandra shares:the training tip that rocked her world about timeuncomfortable truths about time and what we do with itWhat a lack of time really meansWhat studies show we do with our memory of how we used our timeWhich elements of time we are suck with and which we can do something about3 things you can do to actually find some time for yourselfThank you for listening to this episode - hope it helps you make the most of your time!

The umbilical cord is truly your baby's lifeline. It provides a pathway for the exchange of nutrients, oxygen, and waste. After birth the cord is cut and the fetal circulation ends, leaving behind a small stump. And when that stump falls away it makes the belly button, a permanent reminder of the physical connection between you and your baby.In this episode you're going to learn about what potential problems can happen with the umbilical cord including those diagnosed during pregnancy (marginal cord insertion, velamentous cord insertion, vasa previa, 2 vessel cord), and those that can occur during birth (cord compression, cord prolapse, nuchal cord, cord knots). Now, even though I go over a lot of cord-related issues in this episode, the chances of a true emergency are unlikely. I want you to be informed and aware of the potential risks but mostly I want you to come away from this episode feeling amazed and appreciative of what your body can do.In this Episode, You'll Learn About:What the umbilical cord delivers to your baby and how it worksWhich cord-related issues can be diagnosed during routine ultrasound examsWhat cord complications can happen during the course of laborWhat delayed cord clamping is and what the benefits areWhat umbilical cord blood banking meansWhat the types of cord blood banking are and which might be right for youHow different cultures around the world commemorate the umbilical cord--Full website notes: drnicolerankins.com/episode209Check out The Birth Preparation CourseRegister for the class How to Create a Birth Plan the Right WayAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy
