After a bit of a blip, we're now back with an episode all about the mythology of Djinns and Genies from prehistory through to today! Part of our Three Ravens Bestiary Bonus Series, we begin with our Western conception of 'the genie' - a pantomime creature, memorably played by Robin Williams in the 90's Disney movie, filtered through a century of fairy tales and family-friendly legends. Yet, as you might expect, this slight cozy form of 'Oriental' spirit is very different to the 'Jinni' of early Semitic cultures, as discussed in a range of poetry and art, later addressed by Islamic scholars and critics informed by the entire chapter of the Qur'an dedicated to discussing desert spirits and acceptable forms of magical belief. What emerges, as we explore these distinctions, is a series of parallels, including between the 'human' and 'spirit' worlds, between Muslim and Christian discussions of Otherworldly creatures, between types of Devil, and the ways that folktales and legends enable us to see ourselves through tales of so-called monsters. It's a journey that takes us from abandoned ruins lost in Arabian dunes to the times of Geoffrey Chaucer, from Classical discussions of 'genius loci' to tales of pre-Islamic Soothsayers possessed by demons. If you've been rubbing lamps and hoping to have wishes granted then you may have been barking up the wrong tree - but worry not: we've got advice for you on magic rings, fishing, and transcendental meditations that might well enable you to commune with a Jinn.Just don't go expecting them to make all your dreams come true, as they're much more likely to ask you out on a date or hide in the form of a serpent than they are to turn your fantasies into reality... Three Ravens is an English Myth and Folklore podcast hosted by award-winning writers Martin Vaux and Eleanor Conlon.Released on Mondays, each weekly episode focuses on one of England's 39 historic counties, exploring the history, folklore and traditions of the area, from ghosts and mermaids to mythical monsters, half-forgotten heroes, bloody legends, and much, much more. Then, and most importantly, the pair take turns to tell a new version of an ancient story from that county - all before discussing what that tale might mean, where it might have come from, and the truths it reveals about England's hidden past...Bonus Episodes are released on Thursdays plus Local Legends episodes on Saturdays - interviews with acclaimed authors, folklorists, podcasters and historians with unique perspectives on that week's county. With a range of exclusive content on Patreon, too, including audio ghost tours, the Three Ravens Newsletter, and monthly Three Ravens Film Club episodes about folk horror films from across the decades, why not join us around the campfire and listen in?Learn more at www.threeravenspodcast.com, join our Patreon at www.patreon.com/threeravenspodcast, and find links to our social media channels here: https://linktr.ee/threeravenspodcastProud members of the Dark Cast Network.CLICK HERE TO COMPLETE THE THREE RAVENS ACAST SURVEY - PLEASE DO!

This week, the Shat The Movies boys dust off their prep school blazers and follow Robin Williams into Welton Academy for 1989's Dead Poets Society. Commissioned by listener Rob F., this Oscar-winning coming-of-age drama gave the world “Carpe Diem,” a standing-on-desks finale, and enough inspiration to launch a thousand “cool teacher” clichés. But does it still move us 35 years later, or has it become too earnest for its own good? Gene and Big D wrestle with their own school baggage while debating whether John Keating is a saintly mentor or a reckless enabler who lit fires in his students without offering any guardrails. We revisit Ethan Hawke's breakout role, the betrayal of Cameron (still unforgivable), and whether Neil's tragedy hits harder as adults who now understand the crushing weight of parental expectation. Along the way, Big D confesses he usually hates “inspirational teacher” movies, Gene compares Keating's lessons to Krav Maga, and both hosts admit Robin Williams nails his most delicate performance without veering into schmaltz. Is Dead Poets Society timeless poetry, or just a prep school fantasy that collapses under its own sentimentality? Seize the day and find out. They thought they were making a movie that would save the environment and destroy extractive industries. Instead, they made a generation of millennials horny as hell for cartoon trees. FernGully: The Last Rainforest is a fascinating mid-budget animated film that presents a mighty counterweight to the Disney behemoth of the early 1990s: Modest in scope, budget-level pop songs, and an anti-capitalist message Disney would never allow (unless James Cameron does it). And it's not a great movie, but it's very good, and the animation is extremely impressive. And everyone jokes that Avatar lifts the story of FernGully…. But man, it really seems like Avatar has seen FernGully. Or maybe it's just that there are so few anti-capitalist movies made by Hollywood studios that the few that exist all seem to resemble each other. Also: Seriously you guys, there is some legitimately horny stuff going on in this movie. Avatar also seems inspired by that part. In this powerful and uplifting episode of the Stuck In My Mind Podcast, host Wize El Jefe welcomes international speaker, entrepreneur, and speaking coach Marianne Hickman. Known for her remarkable journey from food stamps in Utah to igniting stages in 17 countries, Marianne shares her authentic story of resilience, transformation, and the transformative magic of sharing your message with the world. A Journey Fueled by Hardship and Hope Marianne pulls listeners in with her unfiltered account of what life was like before her first intentional speaking opportunity. Growing up as the youngest of ten in a family of high achievers, Marianne describes the emotional and financial challenges that nearly broke her spirit—marriage and motherhood at an early age, raising five kids, concerning debt, and the humbling experience of relying on food stamps and government support. She humorously and candidly recounts driving the family's old Mazda minivan through Provo, Utah, wrestling with frustration at “doing everything right” but still struggling financially. On that pivotal drive, she describes a personal, almost confrontational conversation with God: she demanded either a box of money on her porch or proximity to someone who could teach her “the money game.” Fate complied—not with cash, but with access to mentors and examples who showed her how to turn her personal story, pain, inspiration, and lessons into sustainable, purpose-driven speaking. Discovering the Power of Storytelling Marianne's turning points didn't come in the fashion of overnight success. She opens up about her early speaking opportunities, from her church putting her on stage as a child (admitting churches “knock the stage fright right out of you”), to attending seminars as a “seminar junkie” and stumbling accidentally into her first significant co-facilitator role. She shares a vivid anecdote about a seminar where she witnessed a speaker sell out $300 worth of resources to 700 people in a single session—redefining for her the possibilities of influence from the stage. But more than money or surface-level success, Marianne found her purpose in influence that creates real change. She connects the dots between mastering communication, having a message rooted in authentic experience, and the responsibility to use that message to help others transform their lives. Overcoming Fear & Transforming Mindset A key theme throughout the episode is the fear and self-doubt that come with stepping onto a stage—physical or virtual. Marianne boldly confesses to battling “me-centered” anxieties: Am I good enough? Will I forget my content? Does my outfit look okay? But she reveals a paradigm-shifting piece of wisdom: “Stage fright is inherently selfish.” By focusing less on herself and more on serving her audience, giving value, and tuning in to their needs, her nerves are transformed into purpose. She dives deep into the importance of mindset, using humorous and relatable family anecdotes (like being head-butted by a sheep at a photo shoot) to illustrate how what's inside you gets squeezed out under pressure—onstage or off. For Marianne, developing a resilient mindset and sharing stories from a “healed scar, not an open wound,” are essential for authentic, impactful speaking. Lessons from Failure & the Power of Humor Marianne isn't shy about her early speaking “cringe moments,” sharing how watching her old keynotes taught her humility and the value of self-compassion. She stresses the importance of ongoing learning and giving oneself permission to be funny and human—citing icons like Robin Williams as examples of using humor to make difficult topics accessible and healing. Building a Signature Message—and an Income With practical steps and hard-won wisdom, Marianne walks listeners through the essentials of building a signature presentation. She describes her 10-step keynote blueprint—an adaptable framework that brings stories, lessons, and audience participation together in a way that's psychologically powerful and emotionally relevant. Marianne unpacks the different business models for speakers: the traditional stage fee route (getting paid for keynote sessions at associations or universities), and a more scalable, sustainable approach—offering resources, free tools, or courses to your audience as a seamless next step after speaking. She even shares how simple tools and free resources (like her podcast database) can organically lead to recurring revenue by fulfilling audience needs. Advice for Aspiring Speakers For anyone terrified of public speaking, Marianne's advice is refreshingly simple and actionable: Get the reps in. Start small by going live on social media for two minutes a day—practice is the only way through the fear. She assures listeners that everyone starts small, and reminds us, “Even if no one shows up, just do it anyway.” Authenticity and impact, according to Marianne, come down to personal growth and honesty. It's not about presenting a perfect, drama-free life, but about being real, vulnerable, and committed to ongoing evolution. Your message doesn't have to be traumatic or “the biggest”—it just needs to be yours, rooted in lessons learned and a desire to help others. Trends and Changes in the Speaking Industry Marianne and Wize riff on the post-COVID explosion in digital stages, especially podcasts, and the democratization (and challenges) of getting visible in an increasingly crowded market. She notes the importance of longevity—just “keeping going” in the face of comparison and distraction—as well as becoming the “purest version of yourself,” rather than trying to emulate others. Standing out means embracing your unique strengths, flaws, and quirks. What's Next? And Marianne's Final Message Marianne closes by sharing her plans for upcoming books (“Uninfluenced”), women's and couples retreats for speakers, and her ambition to put people on a million stages and help them make a billion dollars doing it. But her message for listeners—especially those who feel “too small” to get on stage—is about snuffing out the lies of self-doubt. Every voice matters, and the world needs more good people who know how to use their story for positive change. Call to Action If you're feeling the fire to get your message out or want to explore paid speaking, Marianne welcomes listeners to reach out directly for guidance, resources, or just a supportive conversation. Wize signs off with an invitation: Share this episode with someone whose story deserves the spotlight—they might be “one stage away from everything they've been dreaming of.” Key Episode Themes: Turning adversity and setbacks into platforms for success The role of mindset and self-talk in overcoming speaking anxiety The power of storytelling for influence, impact, and income Authenticity, vulnerability, and the ethics of sharing your story Building sustainable success as a speaker, onstage and off Practical first steps for aspiring speakers Navigating a changing speaking landscape post-COVID The value of individuality and consistency over comparison — For anyone feeling “stuck” and wondering if their story or voice could ever matter, this episode is a must-listen. Marianne Hickman proves that even the most unlikely beginnings can lead to stages that change not only your life, but the lives of others. Tune in for inspiration, laughter, and a practical roadmap to your own breakthrough as a speaker. Connect with Marianne Hickman: Text her at 801-509-5495, mention the podcast, and start the conversation about using your voice for good and sustainable success.
Besides their unscripted cameo on the popular TV Show "Friends", the only other project famed best friends Robin Williams and Billy Crystal would star in together was the 1997 film, Father's Day. To be (in this movie) or not to be (in this movie)... that is the question Robin Williams must ask himself as he joins back up with Kenneth Branagh for a short and quick role in his 1996 epic cinematic adaptation of William Shakespeare's Hamlet.

Plus, he shared a beautiful story about his time working with Robin Williams in Toronto on “Good Will Hunting.”

An all-star comedian, stand-up, and actor, Robin hits it big with his breakout role on TV's “Mork & Mindy.” After that, he becomes one of Hollywood's most successful - and most beloved - stars. With performances in movies like “Good Morning Vietnam,” “Dead Poets Society,” and his Oscar-winning turn in “Good Will Hunting,” there was nothing Robin couldn't do. A master of both drama and comedy, he could alternately break your heart or make you die laughing. But behind closed doors, trouble was brewing. Old demons of addiction haunt the “Mrs. Doubtfire” star, and provide a dark hole that Robin struggles to pull himself out of. Even though Robin's now gone, he is definitely not forgotten. And the legacy he leaves behind is one filled that's filled with light, love, and above all else - laughter. You can follow Brooke and Aricia on socials at @brookesiffrinn and @ariciaskidmorewilliamss. In this episode of the Legacy Lawyers Podcast, Nathan Croxford and Brian Edwards look at the estate of rock legend Ozzy Osbourne to uncover valuable lessons in planning ahead. They talk about how Sharon Osbourne helped structure his assets and likeness, why it is important to keep an estate plan updated over time, and how trusts can provide for children without turning them into “trust fund babies.” Along the way, they compare Ozzy's approach with other celebrity cases including Prince, Robin Williams, and Philip Seymour Hoffman to show both the mistakes and the successes that families can learn from to protect their own legacies.
My guest today on the Online for Authors podcast is Renee Blodgett, author of the book Magdalene's Journey. Novelist, curator, humanitarian, conscious business leader and modern mystic Renee Blodgett has lived multiple lives in one. Having traveled around the world, she has plenty of stories to share, from riding elephants in the Indian jungle and photographing polar bears in northern Canada to teaching English in Kenya, exploring glaciers in Iceland and selling kilims in Turkey. She has lived in eleven countries, including South Africa during Apartheid and the Gaza Strip. Her multicultural background and years of experience as a communications strategist have led to a career of uplifting others through content, speaking, coaching and leading. Known as a master of storytelling, she has written for several magazines, blog networks, the Huffington Post, and her own award-winning online travel magazine, We Blog the World, which reaches over a half million reach globally. Her love of diversity and the visual arts has resulted in five photo books, her serving as a Travel & Leisure judge and spearheading content for TEDxUN, the only TEDx event held at the United Nations (UN). She has also been the curator and producer of TEDxBerkeley for the last 12 years, one of the largest TEDx events in the United States. CEO World Magazine voted her one of the most powerful women in social media, she was listed as a top social media influencer by both Forbes and the UN, and her blog has won numerous industry awards. She was selected as a top 10 Social Media Mentor by Women Online Magazine, an AlwaysOn Top 150 Business Journalist and a Shorty Awards Business Influencer finalist. A passionate photographer, she has published six photo books on nature, culture and travel. She has shot top names in the technology and entertainment industries, such as Steve Jobs, Freeman Dyson, Tony Robbins, Robin Williams, John Legend, Elvis Costello, Lionel Ritchie, John Perry Barlow, and dozens more. Renee also co-founded Blue Soul Earth with her partner, where they help others through books, digital content, retreats and membership programs that focus on heart-centered living, universal consciousness, masculine and feminine balance, and connecting to the inherent beauty and power of our human existence. Their bestselling book Magdalene's Journey, which blends science and spirituality, invites people to re-think our patriarchal-dictated history through a pivotal woman's eyes. In Carole's book review, she stated: Whatever stories and teachings you've heard of Early Christianity, Magdalene's Journey by Renee Blodgett and Anthony Compagnone, a historical fiction, will make you wonder if there isn't another truth. The authors introduce us to Angelo and Rochelle, an unsuspecting married couple who loved to explore ancient and esoteric wisdom across all cultures. Little did they know they would meet two ancient souls, who would turn their lives upside down. It all began one night when the words, “My name is Miriam of Magdala,” came out of the mouth of Angelo. His voice had changed, and Rochelle responded with, “Mary Magdalene!” Magdalene's Journey channels people who once lived and walked the planet, along with real settings in terms of time and place. This well-written narrative moves from one story to the next with accounts of the lives of Jesus of Nazareth and Mary Magdalene. It guides us through how she taught alongside Jesus, their marriage, and the water birth of their daughter Sarah. It chronicles how the seven female apostles who travelled with Mary by sea to the north after the death and resurrection of Jesus. We learn how they dealt with finding food, clothing, and shelter, and their part in the water birth of Mary's daughter. This page turner is like a blueprint worth studying. Amy Carlson claimed to be the reincarnation of Robin Williams, Joan of Arc, Marilyn Monroe, Jesus Christ and the Hawaiian goddess Pele—along with being Elvis Presley's mother and Donald Trump's daughter in other lifetimes. In 2023, the HBO documentary Love Has Won: The Mother God Cult traced Carlson's journey from a McDonald's manager in Dallas to cult leader, promoting beliefs that the COVID pandemic was planned, 9/11 was staged, Sandy Hook was a hoax and drinking silver particles was a path to spiritual and physical healing.Blending QAnon, New Age mysticism, authoritarian religion, pseudoscientific wellness influencers and science denial, Love Has Won thrived until Carlson's mysterious death in 2021, when followers drove her mummified body from Oregon to Colorado, awaiting her reincarnation. Today, as conspiracy theories move further into the mainstream, I'm joined by her former lover, Andrew-Ryan Profaci, to talk about community, belonging, loss, power, and the cults that hide not just in buildings—but in ideas.Contact me at silverliningshandbookpod@gmail.comCheck out the Silver Linings Handbook website at:https://silverliningshandbook.com/Check out our Patreon to support the show at:https://www.patreon.com/thesilverliningshandbookJoin our Facebook Group at:https://www.facebook.com/groups/1361159947820623Visit the Silver Linings Handbook store to support the podcast at:https://www.bonfire.com/store/the-silver-linings-handbook-podcast-storeVisit The True Crime Times Substack at:https://truecrimemessenger.substack.comThe Silver Linings Handbook podcast is a part of the ART19 network. Welcome back trash-heads! Our remake marathon, Once More with Feeling, continues with a look at Guy Ritchie's take on the Disney classic Aladdin. With Will Smith stepping into the big blue boots of Robin Williams, we determine how it meshes with the 90s animated classic. We talk all things adaptation, Will Smith, transnational cinema, and more. Join us now as we dance around and analyze Aladdin.
The school vibe continues with a comedy classic for the entire family - Dead Poets Society starring the late great Robin Williams. Will Seanán hate this as much as he hated the Club?!

Wait a minute... isn't this the third Aladdin movie? Wasn't there one in the middle? Return of Jafar? Well you are correct but Robin Williams isn't in that one because of a dispute between himself and Disney. Aladdin and the King of Thieves, the second direct to video sequel of the classic first movie, reprises Robin Williams in his famous role of the Genie. There's a couple of okay musical numbers but all in all its exactly what you'd expect from Disney's direct to video slop pipeline.
Anna Vocino Returns!Take a walk with me down Fascination Street, as I get to know even more about Anna Vocino. Anna's first appearance on the show was released on 6.13.22. I recomend going back and checking that one out, as it was A BLAST! This time around, we discuss some different stuff. We kick the show off talking about her first experience on a film set. Anna was in the classic film Dead Poets Society, where she got to hang out with the late, great Robin Williams. We then transition into her work on another Robin Williams project, this time for television. The Crazy Ones was one of Robin's last projects, so naturally I ask her about working on that with him. Anna and I then talk about a series she worked on called Free Radio, and she tells some great stories from that set as well. Then we move onto the subject of her health. Anna has some fairly unique immune related issues that she deals with on a daily basis. She is fine, but does navigate some challenges, and she is very open about dealing with those. Of course, we discuss her working with the wonderful Vinnie Tortorich and theie podcast Fitness Confidential, before we dive into her Eat Happy empire! Anna has released 3 cookbooks (a fourth to be released in October of 2026), and an ever growing product line! Eat Happy Kitchen currently offers: 4 pasta sauces (marinara, arrabbiata, puttanesca, pink crema), and 1 seasonal pasta sauce (pumpkin marinara), as well as 4 spice mixes (BBQ Dust, Taco Seasoning, Dill Ranch Seasoning, Salt / Onion Dust), and now offering 3 flavors of Crispy Crunchy Cheese Bites (Cheddar & BBQ, White Cheddar & Onion, Monterey Jack & Onion). We talk about all of these products, and where to find them. They are all available at EatHappyKitchen.com, as well as myriad grocery stores nation wide. Anna shares some behind the scenes stories about what it takes to get a product on the shelf at your local grocery store. As always, no matter what we are talking about; Anna brings the funny! Oh, and pay special attention because we decide to offer a special deal to all of the listeners!

This week in the Labyrinth, we're taking aim at Happy Gilmore 2—and not just to see if we still "got it." We're talking Easter Eggs, hilarious cameos, and what Netflix got right (and wrong) in their sequel to the cult favorite. Then it's back to South Park, which somehow manages to roast everyone, from liberals to Lucifer himself. We also say goodbye to three cultural icons:
“He's a little hobgoblin in this one!” - Steve on Mickey Rooney On the season 15 finale of WHM, we're chatting about the hyper-successful, super-weird family film, Night at the Museum! How obnoxious is this day-dreamer, inventor character they have Stiller playing? Has no one else ever worked late at this museum besides the security team? Is there no overnight janitorial staff? Did anyone else have “Mickey Rooney Fight Scene” on their Night at the Museum bingo card? Could this script have cared any less about Carla Gugino's character? And dear lord, Ricky Gervais in Big Box Hollywood films, glad those days are gone! PLUS: Should we bring back Mickey Rooney Old Man insults like “hopscotch” and “hot dog” and “cement mixer”? Night at the Museum stars Ben Stiller, Carla Gugino, Dick Van Dyke, Mickey Rooney, Bill Cobbs, Jake Cherry, Ricky Gervais, Patrick Gallagher, Rami Malek, Charlie Murphy, Steve Coogan, Mizuo Peck, Paul Rudd, Anne Meara, Brad Garrett, Crystal the Monkey, Owen Wilson, and the late, great Robin Williams as Teddy Roosevelt; directed by Shawn Levy. Robin Williams' manic mind moved at such a breakneck speed that cocaine had the opposite effect than it had on most other people: it slowed him down. Robin's primary addiction, however, wasn't cocaine. He was addicted to the dopamine rush of being on a stage, where he could let his mind run wild with free association, and be rewarded with uproarious laughter. He was addicted to proving himself as a dramatic actor, even if that meant attempting to trigger his own mental breakdown by running in place for hours. And when he died tragically at the age of 63, the cause of his death was surprisingly not what anyone suspected. It still isn't.
