Investing in Yourself: How Your Choices Shape Your Self-Image Self-image is essentially how we perceive ourselves, shaped by our thoughts, beliefs, and experiences. Tonya Leigh explores the profound connection between the investments we make—whether in time, money, or energy—and the evolution of our self-image. This exploration is particularly relevant for women seeking to elevate their self-perception and overall life experience. When we invest in ourselves, we are not merely acquiring things; we are affirming our worth and expanding our identity. She emphasizes the importance of the energy behind our investments, highlighting that buying from a place of fear or scarcity often leads to disappointment. Instead, she encourages listeners to invest from a mindset of deserving and self-worth, exemplified by her own experience purchasing a designer handbag as a step towards embracing a new identity. Welcome back for Part 3 of the official crossover series of the "What’s God Got To Do With It?" and Outweigh podcasts.Last week, we explored the big picture of this conversation, and this week we narrow the focus to the self-image and identity piece of this food and body puzzle. We discuss the necessity of stepping into a new version of yourself if you really want to achieve true health and freedom in your relationship with food and your body.We talk about WHY transforming your self-image is crucial on a neuroscience level, and how it's not about what you eat-- but who you truly believe yourself to be. Only this time around, you're invited to address the roots of your identity and self-image in a way that aligns with God's view of yourself, instead of worldly and societal standards. And of course, we get a little 'geeky' and explore the Anterior Cingulate Cortex (ACC), and its significant role in self-perception, emotional and physical pain, and your coping mechanisms, AND how this is particularly important for women, whose ACCs are more active than men's. Throughout the episode, you'll hear scripture AND evidence-based research that supports the transformative power of faith. Dive on in to learn how integrating faith and science can lead to building YOUR new identity, free from the burdens of shame and self-rejection, and discover what it truly means to see yourself as God sees you. “You can't live in the world's image and fulfill God's purpose.”In this inspiring and thought-provoking episode of Your Life, Dr. Tony Haire and Dan DeBruler dive deep into the question: "Whose image are you living in?" Anchored in Numbers 13–14, they examine the contrast between those who saw themselves through the world's eyes—and Caleb and Joshua, who saw themselves through God's image. They explore how your self-image, when detached from God's truth, leads to fear, hesitation, and missed opportunities. But when you see yourself the way God sees you, everything changes—from how you walk, to how you witness, to how you lead.Whether you're navigating personal struggles, past failures, or labels others have placed on you, this episode will help you recenter your identity on the unchanging truth of God's Word.Key ScripturesNumbers 13:1, 25–33; 14:6–9, 24 – Faith vs fear in the Promised LandGenesis 1:26–27 – Created in God's image and likenessRomans 8:15–17 – Adopted, not abandoned1 Peter 2:9 – You are chosen2 Corinthians 5:17 – A new creation in ChristListen & Connect
Welcome back for Part 2 of the official crossover series of the "What's God Got To Do With It?" and Outweigh podcasts. Today, we're diving deep into the intersection of faith, science, food, and body image. This is the big picture conversation -- where these themes overlap, so you can simply understand this connection between neuroscience and faith...and how it can lead to meaningful, lasting transformation in our lives. Leanne shares (for her) how embracing this dialogue meant confronting her skeptical, science-driven mindset and inviting a God-centered perspective into areas she was previously tackling through her own might, and how this approach completed her story and aligned with her fascination with the brain and nervous system. She addresses topics like: Why do our brains play tricks on us? Why do we do what we do? Why can't we seem to shake life-long habits? With references to biblical scripture and modern neuroscience studies, Leanne highlights the transformative power of aligning your thoughts with a higher spiritual perspective. And of course you are invited to invite God into the conversation, recognizing that true transformation involves cultivating a new identity rooted in faith and understanding the profound connection between mind, body, and spirit...and self-image. Psychiatrist Carolyn Rodriguez studies hoarding disorder and says that all of us have attachments to our possessions. But for many, these attachments can disrupt daily life and even pose health risks. For those with loved ones who struggle with hoarding disorder, she says treatments exist, including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). Lately, she's been studying how virtual reality can augment CBT through virtual discarding practice and ways brain stimulation may improve symptoms. But, Rodriguez says, never underestimate the value of empathy for those in need of help, as she tells host Russ Altman on this episode of Stanford Engineering's The Future of Everything podcast.Have a question for Russ? Exit to Excellence: How Founders Can Transition with Purpose and Power What if the biggest barrier to a successful business exit isn't market conditions or company valuation, but the founder's inability to imagine life without their business? In this episode, Dr. James Bryant reunites with Jerome Myers, exit strategist and business partner, to explore why 80% of businesses listed for sale never complete their transaction—and why 75% of those who do exit regret their decision. Whether you're an engineering leader building a consultancy, planning your eventual exit, or simply interested in leadership development, this conversation reveals why identity work is just as important as financial planning. Key Moments in the Episode 02:52 – The Sobering Statistics: Only 20% of listed businesses successfully sell, and 75% regret it 05:00 – The Founder's Exit Paradox: How founders become so intertwined with their business that separation feels impossible 15:10 – The Six Centers of Doubt: Where uncertainty hits hardest for exiting business owners 23:00 – Four Post-Exit Archetypes: Victim, hero, villain, or guide—who will you become? 27:14 – The NEXT Framework: Nourish, Evaluate, eXplore, Transcend 39:19 – Dr. Bryant's Story: How his son's near-death experience crystallized his values Jerome's Philosophy: Love vs. Fear Decision Making Core Principle: "Love is the only law. Fear is the opposite of love. When making decisions, we get to pick which emotion drives that decision." The Six Centers of Doubt Framework: Self-Image – Redefining who you are without your business role Relationships – 60%+ of daily relationships will change post-exit Work – What to do with 30-100 hours previously spent on business Health – Reprioritizing wellness in an older body Prosperity – Optimizing time, talent, energy, and treasure (not just money) Significance – Finding meaning through service to others Key Takeaways for Technical Leaders • Identity separation is crucial – Whether transitioning from engineer to leader or founder to post-exit life • Proactive planning beats reactive – Develop your next identity before you need it • Systems thinking applies – Treat major transitions like complex engineering projects • From hero to guide – The most fulfilling path leads to developing others rather than being the main character

The Art of Joyfully Hustling: Balancing Ambition and Ease
The Drama Triangle Explained: How to Reclaim Your Power The Drama Triangle, a concept developed by psychologist Stephen Karpman, illustrates how individuals can become entangled in a cycle of emotional exhaustion and conflict through three distinct roles: the victim, the rescuer, and the villain. Each role plays a significant part in perpetuating drama in our lives, often without our conscious awareness. Host Tonya Leigh explores the concept of the Drama Triangle, a framework that reveals the subconscious patterns we create in our lives. The discussion highlights how many people gravitate towards drama, whether for a sense of identity, adrenaline, or connection, often without realizing it. Tonya emphasizes that while some drama may serve a purpose, much of it keeps us trapped in familiar, chaotic states, preventing us from experiencing peace and ease in our lives. Tune in as we break down the three roles in the Drama Triangle—victim, villain, and hero—and how to recognize and escape these patterns to achieve a more elegant and fulfilling life. 00:47 - The Allure of Drama: Why We Create It 01:03 - Craving Peace and Elegance 02:09 - Role 1: The Victim 04:16 - The Victim's Self-Image 07:10 - Role 2: The Rescuer 09:50 - Examples of the Rescuer Role 11:07 - The Rescuer's Self-Image 16:00 - Role 3: The Villain 19:30 - Examples of the Villain Role 22:26 - The Villain's Self-Image 23:32 - Stepping Out of the Drama Triangle 24:03 - Becoming the Main Character Quotes: "What we crave is a sense of ease, a sense of peace, a sense of elegance in our lives, which means that we're going to have to give up some of the drama." "You're not the problem, but you are the solution." "If you want to grow your impact, if you want to have more ease in your life, you must be willing to let other people fail." "I'm only valuable when I'm needed." "The control, the criticism, and the blame comes from a fear of losing control, of not being enough, of being exposed."
