Tour 101 Comparing WDW's Magic Kingdom to Disneyland

Disney Conversations

Play Episode Listen Later Apr 30, 2023 55:20

Hello Tourists! On this adventure of Disney Conversations, we take a look at the differences and similarities of Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom as compared to Walt's original park Disneyland! For this discussion, Magical Matthew is joined by Tour Guides Janette Pellegrini and Mindy Muir! If you are planning a trip to one of these parks, and you have never been, we hope you find this information useful. Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom and Disneyland Park in Anaheim are two of the most popular theme parks in the world. While they share some similarities, they also have some significant differences. Here are some key comparisons between the two: 1.    Size and Layout: Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom is significantly larger than Disneyland Park in terms of overall size and number of attractions. The Magic Kingdom covers an area of 107 acres and has 47 rides and attractions. Disneyland Park, on the other hand, covers only 85 acres and has 40 attractions. The layout of the two parks is also different, with the Magic Kingdom arranged in a circular pattern around the iconic Cinderella Castle, while Disneyland Park is more linear in design, with its entrance on one end and Sleeping Beauty Castle on the other. 2.    Unique Attractions: While both parks share some attractions, such as Pirates of the Caribbean and It's a Small World, there are also many unique attractions to each park. Magic Kingdom has several attractions not found at Disneyland, including the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train roller coaster, the Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover, and the classic Carousel of Progress. Meanwhile, Disneyland Park has its own exclusive attractions, such as the Indiana Jones Adventure, the Matterhorn Bobsleds, and the Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage. 3.    Dining Options: Both parks offer a variety of dining options, ranging from quick-service snack stands to sit-down restaurants. However, Disneyland Park has a slightly larger variety of dining options, with unique restaurants such as the Blue Bayou, located inside the Pirates of the Caribbean ride, and the Cafe Orleans, which serves New Orleans-inspired cuisine. 4.    Atmosphere: The overall atmosphere of each park is also different. Magic Kingdom has a more grand, regal feel with its ornate castle and spacious Main Street, USA. Disneyland Park, on the other hand, has a more whimsical and nostalgic feel, with attractions like the original It's a Small World and classic characters such as Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/matthew-wallace9/message

The Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage has set sail again, taking guests on the voyage under the seas to find Nemo. The attraction has been closed for over two and a half years – since before the COVID shutdown and was planned to come back in the winter of 2021, but was extended until this week. Other than the refreshed look and Hank on the surface, not much has been updated. – https://www.ocregister.com/2022/07/21/how-disneyland-refurbished-everything-on-finding-nemo-submarine-voyage/ Guests have two more spots in DCA to take a look at wait times — a definite win for people avoiding using the mobile app. The display screens near Spider-man and Radiator Springs Racers are new wait-time monitors for the park's busy attractions, just like the one by Carthay Circle. – https://www.micechat.com/327870-disneyland-update-submarines-dive-as-passholders-wait-to-resubscribe/ The Main Street Electrical Parade may be set to glow away…again…on September 1, but not before one more celebration. On the Esplanade, guests can take in a custom wrapped Honda HR-V in honor of the 50th anniversary of the parade. It's complete with characters, colors and even a giant snail on top. No word on how long this display will be out. – https://dlnewstoday.com/2022/07/main-street-electrical-parade-50th-anniversary-wrapped-car-parked-in-disneyland-esplanade/ Disney's spooky season is never complete without apperances and merch featuring the Nightmare Before Christmas — and we've got some already. Bones Coffe is collaborating with the Mouse with five unique blends of Coffee. Try Ruff Weather, The Pumpkin King, Mudslide Boogie, Frog's Breath of Santa Jack, available at a link in our show notes. Each bag is priced at $17. – https://www.bonescoffee.com/collections/bones-coffe-x-disneys-tim-burtons-the-nightmare-before-christmas You may have seen Chicago turn its River green for St. Patrick's Day, but guests were surprised to hear the water in the Jungle Cruise went pink! Something happened to cause a daytime cleaning of the rivers, shutting down the ride for some time. Once the color returned to the expected green shades, guests were welcome back aboard. – https://www.ocregister.com/2022/07/20/why-disneyland-turned-the-jungle-cruise-river-pink/ Another food service venue is adding mobile ordering. Rancho del Zocalo is swapping half of its ordering space to mobile order pickup. MiceChat says it says it could start up any time this week. – https://www.micechat.com/327870-disneyland-update-submarines-dive-as-passholders-wait-to-resubscribe/ It looks like the paint job on Ralph Brennan's Jazz Kitchen is winding down. Most of the outside features a white color with grey trim. Guests can still see some orange around the balconies, but concept art says that should be going away. – https://www.micechat.com/327870-disneyland-update-submarines-dive-as-passholders-wait-to-resubscribe/ Disney employees have a new option for their education. The Aspire program, which offers 100% paid tuition, now partners with California State University – Fullerton and Fullerton College for in-person classes in addition to the already online options available. 13,000 employees already use the program. – https://www.micechat.com/327818-disneyland-news-3-strikes-youre-out/ Discussion Topic: Legendary Imagineer Terri Hardin https://www.terrihardin.com https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Terri_Hardin Terri's Tribe – https://www.patreon.com/TerriHardin/posts

News: Classic character meet and greets could be coming back soon! During a Q&A session at the Morgan Stanley Technology, Media, & Telecom Conference this week, Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of the Walt Disney Company Christine McCarthy said they should be returning “soon.” She pointed to the decline in Covid cases as a good indicator of the safety of the meet and greets. She also stated that meet and greets could help with long lines that have been at the parks recently. – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2022/03/07/news-face-to-face-character-meet-and-greets-returning-soon-to-disney-parks/ and https://www.ocregister.com/2022/03/07/when-will-disneyland-let-mickey-mouse-hug-visitors-again/ At the same conference, we got some insight on the capacity of the parks currently. A question came up asking about the current capacity and if it was back to 100%. McCarthy said they are not back to full capacity, but they are close. When asked if the capacity would go back to pre-covid levels, her answer was no. The way in which they manage the parks is different now. On Main Street, the Crystal Arcade is covered in scaffolding and getting a new paint job. Over at the Rivers of America, the water jet and pyrotechnic pits are drained again and are being worked on in preperation for a return of Fantasmic! The Haunted Mansion has returned from being taken over for the holiday season. Splash Mountain has closed for it's annual refurbishment, not anything related to the upcoming Princess and the Frog re-theme. it's a small world also closed to remove the holiday overlay that almost didn't happen this last year because of flooding. Steelwork continues to go up for the upcoming Mickey and Minnie's Runaway Railway, including hills taking shape on the top of the show building to bring back the cartoony hillside. The Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage is getting final touches before the lagoon is refilled and the attraction can reopen. – https://www.micechat.com/313478-disneyland-news-character-cost-construction-update/ Over in Disney California Adventure, some of the facades in Hollywood Land are getting a facelift, while in Paradise Bay the World of Color infrastructure continues to be worked on. The Tale of the Lion King was hosting auditions for the show that will be at the Fantasyland Theater this summer. Rehearsals begin in April, with performances starting in early summer. The first is a cream cheese filled pretzel, with the sour cherry sugar on top, the other is a churro with the same sour cherry sugar, with the option of cream cheese dipping sauce on the side for $1 more. For the pretzel, the Disney Food Blog reported that the flavors worked well together, but are incredibly sweet. Guests can grab one at the Tomorrowland Pretzel Cart for $7.75. The churro was better than the pretzel, and if you're going for a more mellow flavor, skip the sweet dipping sauce. The churro is at the Tomorrowland Churro Cart for $5.75. – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2022/01/30/review-the-weird-flavor-combination-at-disneyland-that-actually-works/ Happy Lunar New Year! This year's celebration is proving to be quite popular judging by the lines for food being so long. Part of the slow down is the fewer booths than the other food festivals. – https://www.micechat.com/313478-disneyland-news-character-cost-construction-update/ You don't have to wait in long lines at the Lunar New Year Celebration to get one of the highlights! MiceChat has posted a garlic noodle copycat recipe. The meal takes about 20 minutes to make and takes about 10 ingredients. The Tomorrowland Hooded long-sleeved t-shirt is $59.99 and has Tomorrowland in blue on the front, with drawings of past attractions as a pattern all over. The first guests to be able to experience the attraction will be able to do so at the Disney Merriest Nites event on November 11th. The attraction will go down for the transformation of the interior on October 25th. – https://www.micechat.com/303988-disneyland-update-happy-hauntings-and-magic-keys-clogged/ Guests walking the tram route have likely seen the Muppers Haunted Mansion display near the Downtown Disney tram loading area. The display has a few iconic sights from the Haunted Mansion, with a Muppet skew to them, including the stretching room portraits, gargoyles, the busts that follow guests, and more. The popular holiday overlay celebrated the 20th anniversary on October 3rd. To commemorate this milestone, a glow in the dark shirt and water bottle appeared at Disneyland. Both items have Oogie Boogie in a Santa-inspired outfit, the Haunted Mansion, Lock, Shock, and Barrel, and says “Haunted Mansion Holiday 20th Anniversary, Disneyland Resort.” – https://www.micechat.com/303736-disneylands-haunted-mansion-holiday-celebrates-its-20th-scary-christmas/ The Orange County Register found a permit that Disneyland filed with Orange County to install some scaffholding and seating in Town Square on Main Street. This points to the return of the Candlelight Processional at Disneyland this year! The annual event was cancelled last year at both US resorts due to COVID-19. Disney World has announced their candlelight will run from November 26th through December 30th. – https://www.ocregister.com/2021/09/28/candlelight-processional-returning-to-disneyland-this-holiday-season-permits-show/ A new shoppe is coming to the end of Main Street, replacing the former Photo Supply Store. With the lagoon drained, some cast members have reported that the lagoon itself is also getting some work done. MiceChat reports that the show is not expected to return until sometime in 2022. – https://www.micechat.com/303988-disneyland-update-happy-hauntings-and-magic-keys-clogged/ Magic Key holders may have noticed the reservation calendar filling up faster recently. This is probably in part due to the popular holiday season we are in, in addition to Magic Keyholders grabbing a reservation in advance in case they want to go to the parks on a specific day, with the ability to cancel before midnight the day before with no penalty. Our recommendation is to check the calendar often, especially closer to midnight to snag a reservation. – https://www.micechat.com/303736-disneylands-haunted-mansion-holiday-celebrates-its-20th-scary-christmas/ The Amazon smart speakers are getting a little more Disney. Dale was an animator that worked on Robin Hood, The Lion King, Treasure Planet and more. He was also the supervising animator for one of our favortie characters Yzma from The Emperor’s New Groove. He was 70 years old and had worked in animation for over 40 years. – https://dlnewstoday.com/2021/01/dale-baer-disney-animator-for-the-emperors-new-groove-winnie-the-pooh-and-the-lion-king-has-passed-away-at-70/ The mass vaccination site is operating at Disneyland, but has had some growing pains this week. Pre-registration is required to get a vaccine there and is currently only available to front line workers and those 65 and older. In addition to the registration issues, the site was also closed on Tuesday of this week because of high winds in the area. – https://www.micechat.com/280078-disneyland-update-all-good-things-must-come-to-an-end/ Feedback: https://www.latimes.com/business/story/2021-01-16/disney-annual-pass-disneyland

http://www.attractionchecklist.com - This episode Suzie and I head to Disneyland to ride and review Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage! Recorded on February 7, 2019. TRANSCRIPT: Welcome to Attraction Checklist. This episode Suzie and I visit Disneyland to ride the Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage.  Located in Tomorrowland, Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage is described on the Disneyland website by saying: Journey into the charming world of Disney·Pixar’s Finding Nemo on a gentle undersea expedition.  There are no age or height requirements for this attraction and the Thrill Level describes the ride as being a slow water ride that is Dark and Loud. Before we dive somewhere beyond the sea, here are five fast facts about the Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage. 1. Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage opened officially on June 11, 2007.  It was a retime of the classic Submarine Voyage attraction that operated at the park from 1959 to 1998. 2.  After the original Submarine Voyage was closed, sever different ideas for retheming the attraction around Disney properties were developed.  These included rides based on Atlantis: The Lost Empire, Treasure Planet and even The Little Mermaid.  Around 2004, the decision was made to give the ride a theme based on the Disney·Pixar film, Finding Nemo. 3. The Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage attraction holds a whopping 6,300,000 gallons of water! 4.  The rides eight submarine vehicles are original to the 1959 Submarine Voyage attraction.  When the Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage opened in 2007, all but one of the submarines were renamed.  The one that remained the same was the Nautilus. 5. Listen carefully to the Captain’s spiel at the end of the ride.  He mentions surfacing before we have a run-in with a sea-serpent or an encounter with a mermaid.  These are tributes to the classic Submarine Voyage attraction where both of those fantastical events took place. Now let’s climb aboard our submarine and see if we can find Nemo and friends.  Suzie is along for the ride and after the voyage we’ll give you our thoughts on this attraction.  This is a binaural recording so if you have headphones put them on now as we experience Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage at Disneyland. ******** SPOILER ALERT ******** THIS VIDEO CONTAINS A COMPLETE RIDE-THRU OF THIS SOON TO OPEN ATTRACTION AT DISNEYLAND. WHILE VIDEO CAN NEVER CONVEY THE TRUE FEELING OF EXPERIENCING THE ATTRACTION YOURSELF, MANY MAJOR SURPRISES AND PLOT POINTS ARE GIVEN AWAY DURING THIS VIDEO. ******************************** Paul Barrie, from the WindowtotheMagic.com Podcast was among the lucky few to be invited to take a pre-opening ride (or two) on the new "Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage" attraction at Disneyland in Anaheim, California. Paul captured the experience with his all-digital HDD camcorder and recorded the audio with his binaural microphones. After riding the ride twice, Paul returned to the studio to edit together the 2 ride-thrus and the 3-D audio into a one-of-a-kind experience, that really "surrounds you with the magic" of this sure to be a classic attraction. Pauls rides were both at night, so the lagoon footage is VERY dark, but once inside the show building the attraction provides its own light, and most of the attraction can be viewed very well. This video will be released on WTTM DVD soon, and the short-comings of the video will be corrected before it is released. So... climb aboard explorers, its time to go... and find Nemo! ********************* Email: podcast@windowtothemagic.com Voicemail (206) 984-WTTM (9886) Discussion Forums: http://www.thedpn.com/ 15 mins ))BINAURAL((
