Fyrirgef mér námslánin mín kallast sýning Unu Gunnarsdóttur í gallerí Fyrirbæri við Ægisgötu. Þetta er yfirlitssýning verka sem Una hefur unnið eftir útskrift úr námi í Danmörku fyrir tæpum áratug, en hún lærði myndlist í Det Kongelige Danske Kunstakademi með áherslu á listmálun og heimspeki. Titill sýningarinnar vísar í námslánatímabilið. Tímabil mikillar jafnvægislistar milli náms, vinnu og barneigna. Marvaðatímabilið sem steypir okkur í skuldir. Una er á því að slíku skuldafeni fylgi einhverskonar hnignun. Hegðunin verði meira dekedent og minna pragmatísk. Siðferðisþröskuldurinn og virðingin gagnvart afborgunum verði lægri og ásókn í lúxus meiri. Soffía Auður Birgisdóttir rýnir í Glerþræðina, etnógrafísk brot, eftir Magnús Sigurðsson. Og undir lok þáttar hugum við að bandaríska djasstónlistarmanninum Sun Ra og leggjum við hlustir á nýútkomna plötu stórsveitar hans, Lights on a Satellite.

Welcome to CNBC-TV18's Marketbuzz Podcast. Here are top developments from around the world ahead of the trading session of August 13 -On Monday, while the dip got bought into, similar to what the trend has been over the last few sessions, the Nifty could not sustain at higher levels as the recovery got sold into. The market remained fairly resilient to any potential concerns arising from the latest report from US-based short-seller Hindenburg Research. -Tuesday's session will see a lot of stock specific moves, particularly HDFC Bank, that may determine the trajectory of the Nifty during the session. India's largest lender will see an increase in weightage in the MSCI Global Standard Index but in two tranches. Nuvama Alternative is anticipating inflows worth $1.8 billion in the first adjustment that will take place on August 30. -Tuesday's session will see more PSU earnings reactions like Hindustan Copper, RCF, IRFC, HUDCO, along with other names like Vodafone Idea, Camlin Fine Sciences, Ami Organics, Campus Activewear, DOMS Industries, ITI etc. -Three Nifty stocks - Hero MotoCorp, Apollo Hospitals and Hindalco report results on Tuesday, along with broader market names like Emcure Pharma, Dish TV, Dilip Buildcon, IRCTC, Muthoot Finance, Piramal Enterprises, HEG, among others. -Other than that, shares of state-run Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd. will be included in the MSCI India Index, which is part of the MSCI Global Standard Index as part of its latest reshuffle. Six other stocks besides RVNL, namely Vodafone Idea, Dixon Technologies, Oil India, Prestige Estates, Oracle Financial and Zydus Lifesciences have also found a place in the MSCI India Index as part of the latest rejig. Bandhan Bank is the only Indian stock that will be excluded from the index. -Asian stocks rose this morning, fully recovering their losses from last week's rout, bolstered by an advance in Japanese shares. Japan's equities rose after a holiday, as a weaker yen supported exporters. MSCI's Asia-Pacific gauge rose as much as 1% to erase losses from last week's tumble. The S&P 500 closed little changed ahead of US inflation data later Tuesday and Wednesday. Treasuries held Monday's gains. -Oil remained near the $80 level it hit on Monday, as the US sees an Iranian attack against Israel as increasingly likely. Israel's sovereign debt was cut by one notch by Fitch Ratings, which kept a negative outlook on the credit as continued military conflict weighs on the country's public finances. We begin this new series with two wonderful guests, Julu Irvine and Heg Brignall who together make up the folk duo Suthering. We talk about their new album (If we Turn Away), women and folk culture, how they created Tavistock Pride, our joint love for Bridget Christie and more. The fabulous duo are known for their chemistry and humour on stage, they effortlessly intertwine their important messages about the state of our climate, social conscience, and the importance of community and connecting with nature. They champion female characters, creating new narratives for women and unearthing the female heroines of folk and they even sing a song from their forthcoming second album for us. We are very lucky, here in Devon because in 2019 Julu and Heg moved from Bristol to Devon in a bid to create a more connected life on the edge of Dartmoor National Park. They delight in bringing communities together; they run two community choirs (Wheelhouse Folk Choir and The Great Sea Choir) and also run their company Suthering Singing Retreats which offers singing workshops for adults.   In the Book Collective we begin reading Caitlin Moran's book, What About Men?  We begin reading the prologue where she explores the reasoning and need for this book to be written.   Jinty discusses flowers with names of genitalia and Lou has a new friend Mr Jones! There's a quote from Lou  and an Action For Happiness WI calendar that you can all get involved with. It's another episode brimming with chat, your comments, and all the usual sweary shenanigans! There's not an inch of fat on his work. This is why it's so awarded and still looks so fresh today. Quick example - The Tunes 6 sheet:No headline, no endline, no website, no logo, no hashtag bollocks. No need.Just a plunger - made from 3 pack shots (3 packs!!! A client's dream!)That's it.The bare minimum. Written on placement, it's no surprise this was the work that got Mike hired at AMV.And set a theme of simplicity and graphic brilliance that coursed through his work ever since - either with initial partner Daryl Corps or later with Paul Pateman. As well as billboards we discussed Mike's various ECD jobs in the UK and abroad, his teaching work at the SCA and his bedroom wallpaper, which was up there with his Hawaiian Shirts. Thanks again Mike. Dan and Hugh loved it. #behindthebillboard #btb #posters #billboards #ooh #outdoor #amv #tbwa #museumofchildhood #tunes #dunloptyres #theeconomist #sca #johnsmiths

Early indications suggest the benchmark indices could continue to hover at record high levels on Wednesday although gains will be limited amid mixed cues from global peers. The passage of infrastructure bill by US Senate will propel positive momentum in the market but concerns on the US Fed taper talk, virus and inflation front linger. That said, with the earnings season underway, stock-specific action will remain high which could also sway market moves. At 7.30 am, SGX Nifty was trading 11 points higher at 16,288.  In overnight session, Wall Street rose, with both the blue-chip Dow and benchmark S&P 500 closing at record highs, as economically sensitive value stocks gained with the US Senate's passage of a $1 trillion bipartisan infrastructure package. Overall,  Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.46 per cent, the S&P 500 gained 0.10 per cent and the Nasdaq Composite dropped 0.49 per cent.  In Asia, markets were mixed ahead of key report on US inflation. Topix index rose 0.8 per cent, Australia's S&P/ASX 200 Index rose 0.5 per cent, Kospi index fell 0.2 per cent and Hang Seng Index was little changed.  Meanwhile, in commodity market, oil prices held gains after recovering on Tuesday on signs of rising fuel demand in the United States despite a surge in COVID-19 cases. Brent was hovering around $70.67 per barrel after surging over 2 per cent last evening.  Now, a look at stock-specific triggers that are likely to sway the market today. Bata India, Cadila Healthcare, Endurance Tech, New India Assurance, Antony Waste Handling Cell, Bajaj Electricals, HEG, IDFC, India Cement, VIP Industries and Pidilite are among 300 companies slated to post their quarterly earnings.  In its first quarterly results after its listing last month, Zomato said its net loss widened to Rs 356 crore in the first quarter ended June 30 due to increased expenses and a hit on dining out as the second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic upended lives and livelihoods. It had reported a loss of Rs 99.8 crore in the year ago quarter. Revenue from operations in Q1 rose to Rs 844.40 crore, from Rs 266 crore a year ago.  Debt-laden Vodafone Idea (Vi), which is struggling for survival, moved the Supreme Court on Tuesday, seeking a review of its July 23 order that dismissed the petitions of telecom firms for a re-computation of adjusted gross revenue (AGR) dues. Airtel, too, is likely to move the court for relief, as per a BS report. Power Grid Corporation of India posted a nearly three-fold jump in consolidated net profit at Rs 5,998.28 crore in the June quarter, mainly on the back of higher revenues. Trent  reported narrowing of consolidated net loss at Rs 138.3 crore in the first quarter ended June 30 despite disruptions by the second wave of COVID-19 pandemic. The company had posted a consolidated net loss of Rs 184.04 crore in the same period last fiscal. Now, lastly an update on the primary market.  The two new IPOs that opened on Tuesday were off to a tepid start. While Chemplast Sanmar received 16 per cent subscription, Aptus Value was subscribed 24 per cent. The IPO by Nuvoco Vistas managed to garner only 29 per cent subscription at the end of Day 2. CarTrade Tech with 99 per cent subscription looked set to sail through on its last day of bidding process.

A historic week for the benchmark indices came to an anti-climactic end as Reliance Industries single-handedly knocked benchmark Sensex and Nifty off their all-time high levels. A Supreme Court order in favour of Amazon stalled Reliance Retail's Rs 24,000 crore deal with Future Retail, pushing RIL 2 per cent lower. Further, while RBI along expected lines kept the repo rate unchanged at 4 per cent in the August policy outcome and reiterated its intent to focus on growth, investors could not ignore some concerns on the inflation front. The 5:1 vote on maintaining accommodative stance and rise in CPI projection for FY22 to 5.7 per cent from 5.1 per cent earlier indicated that debate on inflation is gaining centre stage. The domestic benchmark indices snapped their four-session winning run. The 30-pack Sensex closed the day at 54,278, down 215 points or 0.39 per cent. Meanwhile, NSE Nifty settled the day 56 points or 0.35 per cent at 16,238. Overall, for the five days ended Friday, Nifty ended the week above the 16,000 mark for the first time, up 2 per cent, and also snapped its two-week losing run. IndusInd Bank, Tech Mahindra, Bharti Airtel, Maruti were the top gainers in the 30-pack Sensex while Reliance Industries, Ultratech Cement, Tata Steel, HCL Tech were the top losers.   The broader markets outperformed, with the Nifty Midcap index rising 0.06 per cent and the Nifty Smallcap 0.04 per cent. Sectorally, Nifty Realty and Nifty Media were the top losers while Nifty IT was the best performer. In stock-specific action, shares of Vodafone Idea rallied 20 per cent, bouncing off 57 per cent from its 52-week low level hit on Thursday after the government introduced a Bill in Parliament to nullify the provision of retrospective tax in the Income Tax Act. On the other hand, shares of Future Group companies fell like a deck of cards. All five group stocks ended 9 per cent down following the apex court order that allowed the appeal filed by Amazon against a Delhi High Court order staying attachment of properties of Future Group companies and Kishore Biyani in relation to the Reliance deal. M&M shares ended the day marginally lower at Rs 758.40 per share reported a consolidated net loss after tax from continuing and discontinued operations at Rs 331.74 crore in the first quarter ended June 30 as against Rs 54.64 crore in the first quarter last fiscal. Glenmark Life Sciences shares kicked off its debut day on a quiet note as it listed at 4 per cent premium at Rs 751 per share on BSE against the issue price of Rs 720 per share. Later, the scrip declined a bit more to end the day at Rs 748.20. Meanwhile, in the primary market, the IPO by Devyani International gathered the maximum response by the end of Day 3 as it was subscribed 116 times while that of Krsnaa Diagnostics garnered 64 times bids. Windlas Biotech and Exxaro Tiles, meanwhile, received 22 times subscription. Now, going into trade next week, macro data, quarterly earnings and global cues will be key triggers. On the economic front, Industrial production for June and July retail inflation are slated to be out on Thursday, August 12.  Meanwhile, it will be an earnings heavy week, with Coal India, Tata Steel, Eicher Motors, IRCTC, ONGC, Zomato, India Cements, HEG, IDFC, AstraZeneca, Chemcon, Indian Hotels, Jet Airways, MRF, CAMS, Deepak Fertilisers, Heranba, Jindal Steel, Siemens, Trent, Bharat Forge, HUDCO, IndoStar, Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders, NMDC and Oil India among hundreds of firm slated to post their numbers for June quarter next week. Lastly, three new IPOs will open for subscription next week. Car Trade IPO will open on August 9 while Chemplast Sanmar and Aptus Value Housing Finance will launch their IPOs on August 10. Lastly, shares of Rolex Rings will list on bourses on Monday.

Benchmark equity indices slumped over 1 per cent in Friday's intra-day session but made a sharp V-shaped recovery to end the day little changed. Financials and metals exerted pressure on the bourses, even as gains in Reliance Industries, FMCG, and select private bank stocks tried to limit the losses. The S&P BSE Sensex fell 722 points intra-day but recovered to close 21 points, or 0.04 per cent, higher at 52,344 levels. The broader Nifty50 index, meanwhile, bounced back from the day's low of 15,451 to end at 15,683 levels, down 8 points or 0.05 per cent. The correction was deeper in the broader markets where the BSE MidCap and SmallCap indices closed 0.7 per cent and 0.89 per cent down, respectively. Overall, the market breadth was heavily skewed towards bears with the Advance to Decline ratio standing at 1:2. ONGC, Coal India, Power Grid, JSW Steel, UPL, NTPC, M&M, SBI, and Nestle India were the top laggards among the large-cap stocks while Mahanagar Gas, Ashok Leyland, SAIL, Canara Bank, Max Financial Services, Graphite India, HEG, Hindustan Copper, Affle India, and Wockhardt Pharma cracked in the mid-, and small-cap segments. Sectorally, the Nifty PSU Bank declined nearly 2 per cent while the Nifty Auto, Metal, and Realty indices slipped up to 1 per cent each. On the upside, the Nifty FMCG index ended 0.29 per cent higher. Buzzing stocks   Shares of Vodafone Idea soared 10 per cent on report that the company may raise up to Rs 7,000 crore via QIP route. Reports further suggest the Department of Telecommunication may allow Vodafone Idea to raise funds supported by FDI. Shares of SBI Cards and Payment Services, on the other hand, tanked 6 per cent to Rs 984 on the National Stock Exchange (NSE) in intra-day trade on Friday after around 64 million shares, representing 6.8 per cent of the total equity of the company, changed hands on the NSE and BSE. While the names of the buyers and sellers could not be ascertained immediately, reports said US-based private equity firm Carlyle planned to offload 5.1 per cent stake in SBI Cards and Payment Services. The stock eventually ended 4 per cent lower on the NSE. Shares of Nazara Technologies also tanked 12 per cent to Rs 1,463.75 on the BSE in intra-day trade after foreign brokerage firm CLSA initiated coverage on the stock with a Sell rating and target price of Rs 1,095, citing hefty premium valuation. The stock was trading close to its 52-week low level of Rs 1,412.50 hit on April 12, 2021. Lastly, shares of Adani Ports and Adani Enterprises snapped their four-day losing run as they surged 7 per cent and 9 per cent, respectively. Adani Power, Adani Green, and Adani Transmission, however, hit their 5 per cent lower circuit for the fifth straight day. In the primary market, the initial public offer of Dodla Dairy garnered subscription of over 45 times on the final day while that of KIMS got oversubscribed by nearly 4 times till 4:15 PM. Global markets   Stocks were stranded just below record highs on Friday, with investors left looking for direction after digesting the US Federal Reserve's more hawkish stance. In Asia, MSCI's broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan was flat after falling for four sessions. Chinese blue-chip shares were also little changed, along with Japan's Nikkei. In Europe, a slide in bank and energy stocks hit shares, with a hawkish policy outlook from the US Federal Reserve also casting a dampener. The pan-European STOXX 600 index was down 0.2 per cent while Germany's DAX index fell 0.3 per cent.

The domestic equity markets welcomed RBI governor Shaktikanta Das' decision to keep repo rate unchanged at 4 per cent during the first bi-monthly monetary policy of FY22, along with holding the GDP growth rate steady at 10.5 per cent for new financial year. Despite the recent surge in Covid-19 cases, the governor said the central bank and the government are prepared to tackle the second wave of coronavirus. That apart, the Governor announced ‘Secondary market G-sec acquisition programme', wherein the RBI will commit upfront to a specific amount of open market purchases of government securities thus anchoring the yields and ensuring comfortable liquidity conditions. Guidance on the quantum of G-Sec purchases (Rs 1 trillion in Q1FY22) offered comfort to debt market participants on the backdrop of a huge supply calendar. Soothed by the dovish stance, the benchmark S&P BSE Sensex index leaped 700 points and hit the day's high of 49,900. The Nifty50, meanwhile, jumped nearly 200 points and hit 14,880 on the back of an across-the-board buying. In the intra-day deals, the smallcap index hit a high of 21,304 points, and was 116 points away from its record high level of 21,420, after a strong rally in chemicals, graphite electrode makers and rating agencies' shares. Shares of HEG and KPIT Technologies, for instance, soared 20 per cent each on the BSE while Graphite India, Vimta Labs, Sandur Manganese & Iron Ore, CARE Ratings, Vinati Organics and Shree Pushkar Chemicals & Fertilisers rallied between 10 per cent and 17 per cent in the intra-day trade. That apart, shares of Rossari Biotech rallied 9 per cent to Rs 1,199 on the BSE in intraday trade today which was the stock's highest level since its listing last year. It surpassed its previous high of Rs 1,145.65, hit on February 19. Thus far in the month of April, the specialty chemicals company's stock has soared 16 per cent in the four trading days. Shares of Barbeque-Nation Hospitality, meanwhile, staged a smart comeback after a weak market debut and were locked in the upper circuit of 20 per cent at Rs 590.40 on the BSE in Wednesday's session. The stock of Barbeque Nation Hospitality, which owns and operates the popular chain of Barbeque Nation Restaurants, had opened at Rs 492, a 1.6 per cent discount against its issue price of Rs 500 per share on the BSE. In the primary market, the three-day issue of Macrotech Developers was subscribed 26 per cent till 4:30 PM on the first day of the issue. The Overnight Underground News Podcast, here’s today's headlines:  Biden takes the lead. New York tells Florida to stay the hell away. The Seattle Mayor rains on ANTIFA’s parade. The statue mobs are getting a little handsy and it’s time to stop exercising.  These stories and more on today’s Overnight Underground News. I’m John Ford.   Biden takes the lead in new poll Don’t look now but Biden has a fourteen point lead in the latest polling. MSN News reports that doddering old political fool number two, Joseph Biden, is making inroads with women and nonwhite voters. All of this is according to a new poll of registered voters by The New York Times and Siena College. Biden leads the poll with fifty percent, doddering old fool number one, Bullwinkle J Trump takes thirty six percent and fourteen percent will vote for “other.” I don’t know about you, but other has my vote too.  NY tells Fla to stay away Three states in the North East are mandating quarantine for Florida visitors. New York, New Jersey and Connecticut have all set a fourteen day quarantine for visitors from the sunshine and pandemic state. Now if Florida could only figure out a way to time travel backwards and keep those obnoxious New Yorkers from migrating to Florida in the first place, it would be a pretty damn good place to live.  NBC News is reporting Florida joins Alabama, Arkansas, North Carolina, South Carolina, Washington, Utah and Texas as states with infection rates high enough to warrant the quarantine, so says New York Governor, King and strongman dictator Andrew Cuomo. Where to pee? So maybe some states opened up too early and now they’re paying a high price. We’re looking at you Florida and Texas. But with most states only partially reopened, there is still one major pressing issue yet to be addressed. Where the hell do you take a leak? Vice News, that bastard, ah bastion of journalistic integrity points out the obvious, with public and business bathrooms either unavailable or unsafe, the good people of many US cities are whipping it out in public or peeing in their pants. According to one completely un-scientific poll, around fifty eight percent are holding it till they get home and over twenty one percent are just letting it rip in the great wide open. All the rest? Depends.  Seattle terminates autonomous  It seems that even the pinko, pansy, bed wetting Mayor of Seattle has finally had enough of the so-called “occupied” protest zone in the downtown area of that former great city. Mayor Jenny Durkan has called for the dismantling of the “Capitol Hill Occupied Protest Zone,” the autonomous six block area of the city. It was just a few days ago when the Mayor likened the protest zone to a new quote: “Summer of Love.” But all that was before the last forty eight hours  saw multiple instances of violence sprouting in the new “Summer of Love” zone with at least two shootings, which left multiple injuries and one dead. The Mayor is calling for the Police to retake the confederate section of the city and re-occupy the abandoned police station in the zone. What will those peaceful protesters do? Here’s what one told ABC 10 news in Seattle after hearing the news. What a shit show.  The mob in Wisconsin is a little out of hand The angry statue destroying mobs are starting to get a little sporty. CBS News reports that in Madison, Wisconsin, peaceful protesters there reportedly tore down two statues and threw a beat down on openly gay state Senator Tim Carpenter. To make matters worse, the peaceful protesters who attacked the Senator, also trashed a statue of anti-slavery activist Hans Christian Heg. Heg’s statue was decapitated and thrown into a lake by the protesters. The idiot’s in the mob either didn’t know or care that Heg was an abolitionist who fought on the side of the Union.  Still it’s also true he was a notorious violent carnivore who exclusively used binary pronouns. So yea, he totally deserved it.  DC send in Guard All this begs the question, how do you keep angry mobs from tearing down statues? In DC thef are sending in the National Guard. The Hill reports that unarmed members of The Guard are being deployed to the nation’s Capital to lend a hand to Park Police to secure DC’s national monuments. Guard members are expected to stay in The Capitol through the Fourth of July and may number as high as four hundred. Lets just ponder all this for a minute, we’re in the midst of a global pandemic, the President is duller than a bag of Kardashians and millions are out of work. And what are the useful idiots doing? Tearing down monuments. Honestly. Stop exercising now You need to stop exercising and you need to stop it right now. A new study out of Japan is noting that daily strenuous activity, such as exercise, might actually shorten your lifespan. According to Study Finds dot org, researchers at the Tokyo Institute of Technology found that Kabuki actors, with very active lifestyles, had shorter lifespans than the lazy Japanese who just sat around watching tentacle porn all day. The researchers believe that the aggressive endurance training necessary for the Kabuki performances neutralizes the usual benefits of exercise. So go ahead, put a little extra mayo on the pizza and pass the pork fat sushi.

Detailed Notes from Episode 6 Episode 6 - Momentum: The Anomaly that Persist Fri Aug 23, 2019 Host Deepak Shenoy (CEO) interviewing Prashanth Krishna (Trading, Momentum Portfolio) on the Momentum Strategy and why it’s the anomaly that persists. Capitalmind offers the Momentum Portfolio as part of Capitalmind Premium (subscription service) in Wealth and as part of our Wealth Management Service.  Read full transcript: https://www.capitalmind.in/2019/08/podcast-momentum-the-anomaly-that-persists/   What’s the Definition of Momentum Stocks moving in one direction continue to do so. Speculation? No, Momentum is a factor identifying a stock that is going up and that continues to do so.  As part of Momentum, we are not asking why - we’re just identifying when this trend is happening and when it’s stopped. Same exercise on the way down as well. We are betting on the trend of the market, not taking a contrarian view.   Why does Momentum work? We have research going back decades (generally in the US and other developed markets) that clearly shows that momentum works.  We can show the persistence and impact of momentum but the reasons aren’t very convincing (Rory Sutherland anecdote on knowing something works but not having the exact reason why).  One of the best reasons I’ve come across attributes this to behavioral factors. Investors underestimate at beginning and over-estimate at the end.  Another is asymmetric information - if you know or have figured out something about a stock you will start to acquire more and more shares. As information trickles in, people will jump on the bandwagon and others will replicate. The stock goes from under-information to over-participation driven by FOMO and greed. Isaac Newton story about the South Sea Company, He got in, made 100%, got out, but jumped in once again on peer pressure and then eventually lost everything. Momentum has an end too   How Long do you hold a stock for and what are the Portfolio Construction Strategy, Diversification criteria: We don’t buy for life like Buffett. The average holding period is a couple of months. We know something about the stock but simply not enough to make long term hold decisions Price is the key, price action is the trigger for our investment and exit choices. We don’t want a low liquidity stock We would rather not have a high volatility stock either that keeps hitting upper and/or lower circuits. The best fit is a stock that goes up steadily without making waves So avoid the parabolic rise? Yes, HEG is an example that after it hit all time highs it was subject to indefinite growth style justifications. You can’t start with momentum and then transition to fundamentals. 25-30 stocks is an optimal choice. Even a 50% fall in Vakrangee where couldn’t get out.only caused a drop of 1-2% of your overall capital which is still manageable.   How do you Rebalance? Rebalancing is meaningful - selling and buying has costs, taxes and slippage. Monthly is a sensible level. Let it ride for a month unless there is extreme news. At the next month, re-visit is the stock still worth holding.   What do you do in times like these (months leading up to Aug 2019) when there’s not enough momentum   In Bear runs like the current environment, we stay in cash if we can’t find 30 stocks.    If we only find 20 stocks (instead of 30), we have 33% in cash.    Momentum is often viewed as a negative because of the dangers of manipulation (promoters and operators driving prices). Since you don’t have filters that can track manipulation - how do you deal with this? Manipulation happens at every level, at accounting, price, balance sheet - even an analysis of fundamentals have risk from misleading or false financial statements. Manipulation is easier in a low volume stock. If you filter on high volume, it’s tougher to get caught in a pump and dump.  Between filters and diversification, we avoid mistakes or avoid mistakes that we can’t recover from. In Vakrangee - we rode the stock on the way up and then down as well! Once the lower circuit hits, you can’t exit no matter what your back test claims.   Do you get time to exit? We’re scared of parabolic charts - they become waterfall when the stock comes down. The lower circuits often kick in (unless it’s an F&O stock) so it’s not easy to get out. Fortunately, momentum normally exhausts over time so it gives you down to exit.  It’s the series of small waterfalls kills an investor in a stock.   Pitfalls or Things to Watch out for   How will you build your version of Momentum? If you’re not looking at volume filters - that’s a big risk.  What’s the universe? Momentum today would be say 50% in large and 50% mid cap. Outside of a wholesale fraud, you should have regular market risk. When there’s a drawdown, will you have the conviction to exit the stock like your model tells you to or will you be loss averse? Alpha comes from behavior rather than the genius of the strategy. Have faith in the strategy. The biggest failure point is us.    What are the returns like? Return of this strategy is linked to the market. This isn’t a contrarian portfolio, In a bear market you don’t do great either. Above Nifty returns are achievable based on the track record. During the bull market days you could easily hit the higher end of this range and the numbers looked abnormally great in the short term. However, drawdowns are similar to Nifty. Your portfolio make-up changes from small to mid caps in the bull runs to larger companies in the bear market. You’ll know this is working when Momentum falls in line with Nifty even on the downside but has beats it during the upside.   This has played out in foreign markets as well? Yes, in US like markets we have some data going back nearly a century and this very much works. Low volatility strategies don’t always prosper but Momentum is an anomaly the persists.  Just buying small cap stocks looks great in bull markets but risk adjusted doesn’t really do better than large cap. Momentum gives alpha even after adjusting for risk.   Next Steps: If you’re interested in learning and doing this yourself Capitalmind Premium articles on Momentum (we have a smallcase) https://www.capitalmind.in/momentum-portfolio/   And if you would like us to invest for you, we offer the Momentum to our Capitalmind Wealth customers (Wealth Management/PMS) as well.

What is the best breathing protocol for you as an individual?
