Sometimes all it takes is one bad decision to create an entire show. This episode has approximately 437 of them. The gang kicks things off with one of the most impressive displays of vacation stupidity we've seen in a while: a family in Yellowstone deciding that a two-thousand-pound bison would make the perfect selfie partner. Apparently, somewhere between "wild animal" and "enormous horns," common sense packed its bags and went home. Then we head to the Hollywood Casino Amphitheatre, where the Doobie Brothers and Santana put on an incredible show… once people actually got inside. Between smartphones, digital tickets, and enough squinting to power an optometrist's office, the concert entry lines became an event all by themselves.Elsewhere in this comedy podcast, the crew dives into celebrity chaos, including Britney Spears deciding she wants another baby, Metallica's Kirk Hammett wearing a Taylor Swift conspiracy shirt before promptly falling on stage, and Carlos Mencia finding himself in serious trouble over alleged tax issues. Because if there's one thing celebrities love, it's making headlines for things that aren't their actual jobs. The show also wanders into summer songs, classic rock debates, television nostalgia, and the eternal question of why every video of something crazy happening cuts away at the exact worst moment. Seriously. Humanity has cameras in their pockets and still somehow manages to miss the interesting part. This comedy podcast is packed with weird news, entertainment gossip, concert stories, sarcastic arguments, and enough random detours to require a GPS. Welcome back to another episode of Being Bookish. I'm not quite sure how it happened, but we're almost halfway through 2026, so it's time for a bit of an update, and I am doing it differently this year! In this wrap-up, I am focusing a lot on expectation versus reality in my personal reading experience. I'm going to share my thoughts on the standout books I cannot stop thinking about, the ones that didn't quite hit the spot, and the upcoming releases I am looking forward to later this year. 2026 has brought a brilliant mix of genres, including my very first venture into LitRPG with Matt Dinniman's Dungeon Crawler Carl. I share my thoughts on diving into this massive series, the exciting news of a television adaptation, and how his darker, highly political standalone novel, Operation Bounce House, received a mixed reception from readers on Goodreads and Storygraph. Of course, a completely honest wrap-up means talking about the disappointments too. I open up about my recent DNFs, like Claire North's Slow Gods, why I am trying to be kinder to myself when a book isn't working, and what happens when an individual read simply becomes one of the worst books I've finished all year. On a brighter note, my mission to discover new authors has so far been something of a success (at least I think so), with seventeen new writers added to my list. I discuss the emotional highs of a beautiful contemporary romance read on my birthday—Jill Mansell's Just One Look at You—and contrast it with a highly anticipated Beth O'Leary release that unfortunately turned into a major seafaring plot disappointment. I also explore whether "sequel syndrome" has struck some of the fantasy and romantasy series I loved last year, including Lauren Palphreyman's The Night Prince. Finally, I look ahead to the final six months of 2026. I take a look at some of my most anticipated upcoming releases, from Madeline Miller's short mythological tale Mestra and Carissa Broadbent's dark vampire romantasy The Lion and the Deathless Dark, to Victoria Aveyard's adult debut Tempest. The moment you accept the role of a godly man, you give up the right to be unfit. Not just physically. Mentally. Spiritually. In every area of your life.Casey Wilson, Travis Shook, and Justin Bohner sit down with Joshua "Hicks" Hicks, the man who now runs medical and safety for the biggest stages in the sport of fitness, from the CrossFit Games to the Rogue Invitational to the World Fitness Project. The standard he is known for is simple: honesty, integrity, professionalism. But that standard was forged in a valley most men never talk about.Years ago, at the bottom of a divorce and a bottle, Hicks had decided his story was over. What he did not know was that God had already placed a man at the gym. A prayer said out loud, a workout he almost skipped, and one providential conversation with Rich Froning across five lanes of highway became the hinge his whole life turned on. This is the first time he has told that story publicly.Inside this conversation:• Why a godly man forfeits the right to be unfit in mind, soul, and body• The mirror moment every man eventually faces, and how to stop being the villain in your own story• Why the accuser only takes aim at the men who are actually in the fight• Reading providence in the small things, and keeping your eyes open for the door God already opened• Carrying the standard, and why a man does not get to choose whether he leads, only whether he leads wellWhether you are in the dark place Hicks described or you are the man God wants to send into someone else's, this one will meet you where you are and call you higher. The man we follow is Jesus. God is most glorified in us when we are most satisfied in Him. I first read those words more than twenty years ago in John Pipers The Pleasures of God. Second only to the Bible, that book has had a profound impact on my life. I have owned several copies over the years; my first copy had to be replaced because I wore it out, and the copy on my shelf today is well marked. To give you a sense of why Pipers book means so much to me, let me read something I underlined from his chapter, The Pleasure of God in His Creation: What is the universe but the lavish demonstration of the incredible, incomparable, unimaginable exuberance and wisdom and power and greatness of God! What a God he must be! In that book, Piper says this about prayer: God is the kind of God who delights most deeply not in making demands but in meeting needs. Prayer is his delight because prayer shows the far reaches of our poverty and the full riches of his grace. Then he gives an image for prayer that has stayed with me. He says, Prayer is the walkie-talkie on the battlefield of the world. It is not a domestic intercom to increase the comforts of the saints, but a wartime means of calling upon God for courage, protection, provision, reinforcements, and the advance of His Word. It is not that I didnt believe Pipers words then; it is that prayer was not part of the culture of my heart in the same way that it is now. My prayer is that what we learn from Revelation 8:15 will help us see prayer the way heaven sees it. Last week, we saw that John heard the number of Gods sealed people144,000 from the tribes of Israelbut when he looked, he saw a great multitude no one could number from every nation, tribe, people, and language. I do not believe these are two different peoples of God, but Jews and Gentiles gathered into one redeemed people through Israels Messiah, the Lamb who purchased people for God from every tribe and language and people and nation. We also saw that the list of the 144,000 has the feel of a military census, like Numbers 1, where Israel was counted by tribe according to the men able to go to war. But Revelation 7 begins with Judah, because from Judah came the Lion who is also the Lamb. In other words, Revelation 7 gives us a symbolic picture of the people of God gathered, sealed, and ordered around the conquering Lamb. Whatever you believe about the 144,000, their commitment and loyalty to the Lamb is a picture of discipleship and abiding in Jesus. Revelation 14:4 says, It is these who follow the Lamb wherever he goes. They are not pictured as passive spectators. They are sealed saints who live with a wartime ethic. Now, when we come to Revelation 8:15, there is a dramatic pause of silence. At the center of that silence stands an angel at the altar with a golden censer. Revelation has already linked incense with prayer. In Revelation 5:8, the elders held golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints. In Revelation 6, the martyred saints cried out beneath the altar, O Sovereign Lord, holy and true, how long? Now, in Revelation 8, the prayers of all the saints rise before God with the smoke of the incense. Then the angel takes fire from the altar, fills the censer, and throws it to the earth. The prayers of the saints rise before the throne, and the fire of Gods judgment falls upon the earth. The Silence Before the Throne of God Notice what precedes the silence in heaven. Remember what I said previously: if the six seals describe what is happening on the world stage in Gods theater, then Revelation 7 shows us what is happening behind the curtain during the first six seals. Notice the language used in Revelation 7:1517: Therefore they are before the throne of God,and serve him day and night in his temple;and he who sits on the throne will shelter them with his presence. They shall hunger no more, neither thirst anymore;the sun shall not strike them, nor any scorching heat. For the Lamb in the midst of the throne will be their shepherd, and he will guide them to springs of living water, and God will wipe away every tear from their eyes. Remember whose vision this is. It is Johns vision. The John who wrote these words in our Bibles is the same John who heard Jesus say, If anyone serves me, he must follow me; and where I am, there will my servant be also (John 12:26). To the hungry and thirsty, John heard Jesus say, I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst (John 6:35). Regarding our need for a shepherd, John heard Jesus say, I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep (John 10:11). What is my point? The language used to describe Johns vision of the multitude from every nation, tribe, people, and language before the throne is the language of abiding brought to its final fulfillment. Revelation 7:1517 shows us the completed experience of abiding in Christ and where it ultimately leads: Those who abide in Jesus now, will dwell before God then. Those who come to Jesus as the Bread of Life now, will hunger no more then. Those who drink from Jesus as the fountain of living water now, will thirst no more then. Those who follow Jesus as the Good Shepherd now, will be guided by the Lamb forever then. To be a Christian is to be a person who abides in Jesus. Jesus never made this optional. If you are struggling to see the connection, let me share what Jesus said in John 15: I am the true vine, and my Father is the vinedresser. Every branch in me that does not bear fruit he takes away, and every branch that does bear fruit he prunes, that it may bear more fruit. Already you are clean because of the word that I have spoken to you. Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me. (vv. 14) Then Jesus said of all who abide in Him, If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you (John 15:7). The evidence that you are abiding in Jesus is that you desire to follow the Lamb wherever he goes (Rev. 14:4). And one of the evidences that you are following the Lamb is that you pray. Listen, abiding in Jesus and prayer are not separate. You cannot abide in Christ apart from a praying life. Prayer is the language of abiding. The sealed people of the Lamb are not passive spectators. They are not casual in their Christianity, and they are not content with merely warming chairs on Sunday morning. They are consecrated saints living with a wartime ethic, and one of the primary ways they wage war is by bringing their poverty, weakness, burdens, and cries before the throne of God. So, against the backdrop of Revelation 7, where John hears the people of God numbered as 144,000 and then sees them as a great multitude before the throne, the Lamb opens the seventh seal. And when He does, heaven falls silent. The Prayers Before the Throne of God Remember what I have said about the book of Revelation: it is the crescendo of the whole counsel of Gods Word, packaged into twenty-two glorious chapters. The themes that run from Genesis 1:1 through Jude 25 converge in Johns apocalypse. Genesis begins, In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. Jude ends by praising the God who is able to keep you from stumbling and to present you blameless before the presence of his glory with great joy (Jude 24). Between Genesis and Jude, one of Scriptures great themes is clear: the people of God live in the middle of a war. Martyn Lloyd-Jones rightly said, There is no grosser or greater misrepresentation of the Christian message than that which depicts it as offering us a life of ease with no battle and no struggle at all.... The first thing we must realize is that the Christian life is a warfare, that we are strangers in an alien land, that we are in the enemys territory. The war is ongoing and unrelentingbut our strength to engage it does not come from within ourselves; it comes from the Lord. This is why Paul wrote, For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places (Eph. 6:12). This is why Revelation does not picture the church as passengers on a cruise ship drifting comfortably through calm waters. No, we are at war, and the church is made up of sealed, redeemed people who follow the Lamb, resist the dragon, refuse Babylon, and find their source of power and strength before the throne of God through prayer. That is why Paul urges us to put on the whole armor of God so we may stand against the devils schemes (Eph. 6:11). Yet the armor of God is not secured by human effort, self-discipline, or religious activity. It is ours because we are in Christ. He is our truth. He is our righteousness. He is our peace. He is our salvation. He is the Word who gives us the sword of the Spirit. We put on the armor by abiding in Jesus, and we stand firm in it by praying at all times in the Spirit (Eph. 6:18). Now, with the image of 144,000 sealed warriors of the Lamb, clothed in the armor of God and standing firm in prayer, we are ready to understand why Revelation 8:15 matters so much. Do not miss where the angel stands in verse 3. He stands at the altar with a golden censer, and he is given much incense to offer with the prayers of all the saints on the golden altar before the throne. Remember, this is not the first time Revelation has connected incense with prayer. In Revelation 5:8, the elders held golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints. Then, when the fifth seal was opened, John saw the souls of the martyrs beneath the altar crying out, O Sovereign Lord, holy and true, how long before you will judge and avenge our blood on those who dwell on the earth? (6:10). Here in Revelation 8, John sees these prayersthe prayers of all the saintsrising before God with the smoke of incense in the presence of God Almighty. Notice that what rises before God is not only the prayers of the martyrs but the prayers of all the saints. Not only the prayers of pastors, but all the saints. Not only the prayers of the spiritually mature, but also the prayers of those who are struggling. The prayers of all the saints rise before God. Every person whose faith rests in Jesus Christ, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world, has access to the throne of God through the blood of Jesus. This means that even the weakest cry of the weakest saint, offered through Christ, is not ignored in heaven. All of this takes place within the silence of heaven, but what John sees cannot be misunderstood: God hears the prayers of all who have been redeemed by the blood of His Son. At this moment, John watches the angel take the censer, fill it with fire from the altar, and cast it to the earth. Then peals of thunder, rumblings, flashes of lightning, and an earthquake pierce the silence. These are the images and sounds of the perfect justice of a holy God. Heaven is silent, but God is not indifferent. His people cry out, and He answers in His time, in His way, and according to His holy character. Joel Beeke says of these verses, Prayer is powerful and effective in this world because God takes more notice of the prayers of His saints than He does the dictates or decrees of governments. When the prayers of the saints ascended to God in heaven, John writes that the earth was shaken with thunder, rumblings, flashes of lightning, and an earthquake as seven angels prepared to sound seven trumpets. God wants to impress upon us the effectiveness of prayer.... God is saying this: By your prayers, I will overthrow governments. I will confound human plans; I will turn the world upside down, casting the wicked to the ground and delivering My ransomed people. That is why prayer is not a small thing. Prayer is one of the means by which God accomplishes His purposes in history. It is not that our prayers bend God to our will, but as we abide in Christ, we bend to His will. And this same God, who does all that he pleases (Ps. 115:3), is pleased to hear the prayers of His people. Proverbs 15:8 says, the prayer of the upright is His delight (BSB). Conclusion So, permit me to leave you with three questions: If prayer is the language of abiding, what does your prayer life say about your dependence on Jesus? If prayer is the walkie-talkie on the battlefield of the world, have you been using itor have you been trying to fight in your own strength? If heaven receives the prayers of all the saints, can you really say that God has not heard you, or that your prayers do not matter to Him? Listen to me: even the weakest saint, crying out in the name of Jesus, is heard before the throne of God. If you are a Christian, you have access to the throne of God through the Son of God because of the blood of the Lamb. So pray. Pray when you feel weak. Pray when you are afraid. Pray when you do not know what to do. Pray for your family. Pray for this church. Pray for the lost. Pray for those suffering for the name of Christ. Pray for the kingdom to come and for the will of God to be done on earth as it is in heaven. John Piper closes his chapter on prayer with a quote from Patrick Johnstone that I believe serves as an appropriate conclusion to this sermon: Let us mobilize prayer! We can tip the scales of history. Christians can be the controlling factor in the unfolding drama of todays worldlet us not allow ourselves to be chased around by the enemy, but let us go up at once and take the kingdoms of this world for Jesus (Numbers 13:30; Daniel 7:18)He is delighted to give them to us (Daniel 7:22, 27; Luke 12:32). In practical terms, may these truths make our prayer lives as individuals, and in prayer meetings, outward-looking, Satan-shaking, captive-releasing, kingdom-taking, revival-giving, Christ-glorifying power channels for God! Prayer is not how we bend God to our will; prayer is how we abide in Christ, draw near to the Father, and, through the power of the Holy Spirit, join in the purposes of the sovereign God who hears the prayers of all His saints.

In 1898, two massive, maneless lions terrorized a British railway camp in what is now Kenya, slaughtering over 100 workers with chilling precision. But Morgan uncovers something far darker beneath the surface: local elders warned that the lions were not just predators—they were vessels for something ancient, awakened when sacred land was disturbed. Through haunting storytelling and supernatural investigation, Morgan explores the history, the horror, and the unsettling question: were these lions truly animals… or something else wearing their skin? #history #lions #mystery #murder #truecrime #coldcasefiles #theghostandthedarkness Learn more about your ad choices. Send us Fan MailI sit down with Lion member Michael Hamblin, a husband, dad of four, and tech professional, to talk about the kind of faith that lasts beyond a childhood church background. Michael shares what helped him avoid the common “fall off” when young adults leave home: a real prayer life, a clear identity in Christ, and a core group of believers who kept each other sharp on a secular campus. We also unpack what it looks like to live that same faith at work, from mentoring younger coworkers to handling tough questions about Christianity, hypocrisy, and what truly defines a follower of Jesus. We are excited to be speaking at Mountain Life Church in Park City Utah on June 20th.  Lock in your spot at this link to register. Our latest plan just released on the Bible App called I'm Just a Guy: Feeling Stuck at Work. You can start that plan at this link.  Most men fight a battle no one sees—their thoughts. Shame, temptation, and negative spirals don't just go away. Lion’s Mane Mushroom and Brain Health: What Four Clinical Trials Actually Found Many stroke survivors and people managing cognitive decline more broadly eventually ask the same question: Is there anything beyond physiotherapy and medication that can actively support brain healing? Not symptom management. Actual repair. Lion’s Mane mushroom (Hericium erinaceus) is one compound that has gathered genuine clinical attention. It is not a cure, the human trial evidence is still limited in scale, and it is not a replacement for the fundamentals of brain health. But the mechanism is unusual, the safety profile is consistently good, and for anyone serious about their brain, the research warrants an honest look. Why Lion’s Mane Is Neurologically Unusual Most supplements that claim to support brain health cannot cross the blood-brain barrier, the tightly regulated membrane that controls what enters the brain. Without crossing it, any direct effect on brain tissue is limited. Lion’s Mane contains two families of bioactive compounds found almost nowhere else in nature. Hericenones come from the fruiting body, the visible mushroom. Erinacines come from the mycelium, the root-like underground network. Both stimulate the production of Nerve Growth Factor (NGF) and Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor (BDNF). These are proteins the brain uses to grow new neurons, maintain existing ones, and strengthen the connections between them. Crucially, erinacine A, one of the key mycelium compounds, has been confirmed in preclinical studies to cross the blood-brain barrier. That is not a trivial distinction. It is one of the reasons researchers have taken this mushroom seriously. “These are proteins your brain uses to grow new neurons, maintain existing ones, and build and strengthen the connections between them. They are, in a very real sense, your brain’s repair and maintenance crew.” — Bill Gasiamis What the Human Clinical Trials Found Four published human clinical trials have examined Lion’s Mane. Here is what each found: Mori et al. (2009): In a randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial, 30 older adults with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) took Lion’s Mane supplement or placebo for 16 weeks. The Lion’s Mane group showed significantly better cognitive function scores at weeks 8, 12, and 16. When supplementation stopped, scores declined again within four weeks, suggesting the effect was tied to ongoing intake, not a placebo response. Saitsu et al. (2019): A multicenter RCT tested 12 weeks of oral Lion’s Mane in older adults. Participants in the treatment group showed significant improvement on the Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) compared to placebo. No adverse effects were observed. Nagano et al. (2010): A 4-week RCT using Lion’s Mane-enriched cookies found significant reductions in self-reported depression and anxiety in women compared to placebo, suggesting effects extend beyond cognition to mood and emotional regulation, possibly via the gut-brain axis. Docherty et al. (2023): A double-blind pilot study from Northumbria University tested 41 healthy young adults aged 18–45. After a single dose, participants performed significantly faster on the Stroop task, a measure of cognitive processing speed and flexibility. After 28 days, there was a trend toward reduced subjective stress. This was a small study, and results should be interpreted cautiously, but it suggests Lion’s Mane effects are not limited to populations already experiencing cognitive decline. The Stroke-Specific Preclinical Data For stroke survivors, the preclinical research adds another dimension. In a 2014 animal study, erinacine A reduced brain infarct volume by 22–44% in ischemic stroke models (depending on dose), and significantly lowered pro-inflammatory cytokines, including IL-1β, IL-6, and TNF-α markers of the neuroinflammatory cascade that follows stroke. A 2022 study found that erinacine A helps preserve glutamate clearance in the brain after ischemic injury. Excess glutamate is one of the key mechanisms of neuronal death after stroke, so anything that helps regulate it post-injury is clinically relevant. These are animal studies. They do not translate directly to human outcomes. But they provide a biological rationale that supports why clinical researchers are now investigating Lion’s Mane in neurological recovery contexts. What the Research Does Not Yet Tell Us The limitations matter, and any honest assessment must include them. All four human trials are relatively small, none exceeds 100 participants. We do not yet have large-scale, long-term RCTs in stroke survivor populations specifically. The optimal dose, duration, and form (fruiting body vs mycelium vs dual extract) have not been established in human trials. Direct confirmation that erinacines cross the blood-brain barrier in humans rather than in animal models does not yet exist. Bill says it directly in the video: “The human trial data is still relatively limited in scale. We need larger, longer trials.” Practical Questions to Raise with Your Doctor If you are considering Lion’s Mane supplementation, the following questions are worth raising with your neurologist or GP: Is it safe alongside my current medications? Theoretical interactions exist with anticoagulants (warfarin, aspirin, clopidogrel) and antidepressants, not confirmed in human trials, but worth disclosing. Anyone on blood thinners following a stroke should have this conversation before starting. What form should I look for? Products should specify standardised hericenone content (fruiting body extract) or erinacine A content (mycelium extract). Products listed only as “mycelial biomass on grain” typically contain very low levels of active compounds and high levels of starch from the growth substrate. If the label does not specify active compound content, treat that as a quality flag. Are there any trials I could join? ClinicalTrials.gov lists current recruiting studies for Hericium erinaceus and cognitive function worth checking if you are interested in contributing to the evidence base. The decision set new limits on federal prosecution of gun owners who are targeted simply for having a history of drug use. It was especially welcomed by millions of American cannabis users who have had to disarm or risk up to 15 years behind bars. A member of a prominent Central California farming family was arrested over the weekend in Los Angeles County following what neighbors described as a series of threatening and antisemitic outbursts. Instead of certifying their own removals, Mayor Alvaro Preciado and councilmembers Leticia Gamez and Pablo Hernandez — three of four officials voters sought to remove — voted to reject the recall results and remain in office. You're not depressed. You're not in crisis. You're functioning, showing up, holding it all together. But something is still off, and you can't quite name it.This episode is for that person.Brandi and Dr. Desiree Caruso, ND sit down to break down the real biology behind low-grade mood dysregulation — the kind that doesn't show up in standard bloodwork but is absolutely happening in your body. We're talking about two specific functional mushrooms, lion's mane and reishi, and going straight into the mechanisms: the actual compounds, the actual pathways, and the actual research that explains why these mushrooms have a genuine relationship with how you feel. This is not a vibe episode. This is the science. We've been asked over and over again whether functional mushrooms can do something for mood, and if so, how. Today we answer that question properly. The Mysterious Suicides of Leda Strike and Charlotte Campbell Revisited Post Hallmarked Man

‘Fiona F' is a Hogwarts Professor subscriber in Adelaide, Australia, the truly down under capitol of the South Pacific island-continent. She works as an environmental scientist on the days she isn't combing through the Cormoran Strike novels of Rowling-Galbraith in search of answers to the over-arching mysteries of that series. The Hogwarts Professor Talking Heads duo invited her to a discussion of her potential solutions to two of the unresolved questions that have to be answered before the epilogue of Strike 10, namely, ‘What really happened in the ruled-a-suicide deaths of Leda Strike and Charlotte Campbell?' Fiona seems to have broken both cases using information dropped as asides in Hallmarked Man.The Ten Questions that guided their conversation are below with the promised links and Fiona's time-lines and comments on the Moderator Backchannel they discuss. In brief, about Leda's death Fiona notes that we learn in Strike 8 that Shanker is familiar with ‘Barnaby's, the preferred body-disposal business used by the London under-world, to include the Ricci Crime Syndicate. She connects that dot with (1) Strike's memory of making a drug delivery for Shanker to the Ricci Godfather way back in the day when the two shared a flat and (2) Shanker's near panicked warnings to Strike not to investigate the Riccis in Troubled Blood. Fiona's theory? Means, motive, and opportunity point to the possibility that Leda's heroin overdose was a Ricci ‘message' to Shanker that he had better not cross them in a drug deal. Readers have missed this possibility because Shanker loved Leda like a mother, which love unfortunately made her a perfect target for the gangsters to ‘get at' Strike's adopted brother. And Charlotte's death? Fiona, unlike much of Strike fandom, accepts the Jeffery hypothesis (see here, here, and here) that Ms Campbell-Ross did not kill herself but was murdered in a staged-suicide (a la Leda Strike, Lula Landry, Jasper Chiswell, and Kevin Pirbright). After a close reading of Hallmarked Man, Fiona realized that Dino Longcaster, whom Tara Campbell married after she had divorced Charlotte's supposed biological father, may have been, based on his fathering Rupert Fleetwood in an adulterous relationship, Milady Bezerko's real sperm-donor daddy (and at home molester). Which possible parentage would have made Charlotte and Valentine Longcaster half-siblings. Fiona theorizes from there that the baby Charlotte says was Strike's was Valentine's (a la Rupert and Decima's Lion), that Jago Ross' children might have been Valentine's, or both. Valentine, Jago, and Tara shoot to the top of the ‘Charlotte Murder' suspect list, with Sasha, Rupert, and Amelia as Tara's agents all possibilities.Fiona, Nick, and John discuss the various Rowling Golden Threads in play with each of these theories — incest, pregnancy traps, staged suicides — and how both Fiona's Ricci-Shanker and Secret Charlotte theories are textbook illustrations of Rowling misdirection while planting clues in plain sight.John and Nick are grateful to Fiona for getting up as early as she did to chat with them and for sharing her theories here with the Serious Strikers at Hogwarts Professor. Hats doffed with a bow from the waist in admiration and gratitude! The Ten Questions With Links and Notes1. Fiona, you, Nick, and I have been chatting on the moderator back channels since May and we've shared your Daddy Dino theory in which Charlotte was another Longcaster child conceived in adultery and Valentine was her incestuous lover and abuser. Nick and I discussed that idea on our ‘Incest Golden Thread' program. But none of us know who you are really and I just learned you're living in Central Australia. Tell us about Fiona, a Welsh name?, and what brought you to Serious Striker land?12 April Fiona Comments on Moderator Backchannel:In response to a post by Cheryl Rose Orrocks on 17 Feb 2026, my current theory is that Dino Longcaster is Charlotte's father and that his son, Valentine Longcaster, will be revealed as her abuser and the possible biological father of Charlotte's children. Hence the 2nd incest storyline will also involve the Langcaster family. This could be why Charlotte's mother, Tara, despised Charlotte so much.If Jago Ross is somehow linked to the matter of the DNA test involving Bijou and Strike, it may be because he had Charlotte's birth children DNA tested to confirm parentage. Maybe Jago discovers he is not the biological father and assumes Strike is, hence the reason he wants to obtain Strike's DNA results.2. Nick was telling me the other day that he has been re-reading the series and it's changed his thinking about how he would rank the books, especially in light of Hallmarked Man. I hope he'll clarify what he means by that – and that you'll share, Fiona, where Strike 8 is on your list of best to worst Strike novels and if or how it changed your thoughts about the first seven.3. By the time this conversation is posted, I hope to have put up a short summary of your Birthday Party Theory, Fiona, or else it will be the text beneath this conversation. In brief, you lay out the calendar dates after Sacha Legard's birthday party with respect to Charlotte's death. Can you tell us why you thought that party had something to do with her death and how you went about setting up the time-line?May 6 Fiona note on Moderator Backchannels:In this video, your comments regarding Rupert Fleetwood and Charlotte's murder (1:00:17) got me thinking. If Charlotte was murdered, her murderer was likely present at Sacha Legard's birthday party. After checking out several sources (books (physical copies) 7 TRG and 8 THM, Strike Fans, the Farting Faculty Lounge and Hogwarts Professor) I put together a rough timeline to assemble my thoughts.* Saturday 21 May 2016: Sacha Legard's birthday. Valentine and Cosima Longcaster are at the party. Rupert Fleetwood gatecrashes and he and Valentine have some kind of confrontation (refer THM Chapter. 36, pages 291 and 292). I presume Charlotte and Amelia would have been at the party as they are Sacha's half siblings, however I have no evidence to support this.* Friday, 27 May 2016: Strike listens to Charlotte's voicemail messages. (TRG, Chapter 55, pages 421 and 423).* Tuesday, 14 June 2016: Charlotte is arrested for assault on Landon Dormer (TRG, Chapter 59).* Thursday, 23 June 2016: Strike deletes three voicemails from Charlotte before heading up to his attic flat (Chapter 61). Charlotte Campbell dies (commits suicide?).* Friday, 23 December 2016: When Strike goes to the National Theatre to interview Sacha Legard (THM, Chapter 36, pg. 289). Sacha says he ‘was shooting a film in Mexico (Conquest?) when all this business with him [Rupert] and Dessie happened.'I'm unsure when Sacha was in Mexico (before and/or after his birthday party on 21 May 2016). If he was filming in Mexico after his birthday then he may not have been in London when Charlotte died. If filming in Mexico finished before his birthday, he would have to be on the short-list of murder suspects. As Charlotte loved tension, conflict, and rows, she may have overheard the confrontation between Rupert and Valentine. Presuming the confrontation was about DNA testing and Dino Longcaster being Rupert's biological father, maybe the DNA results also contained information about other unknown (and related) people with a similar DNA profile to Rupert and the Longcaster's (Dino, Valentine, Decima and Cosima) and Rupert threatened Valentine with this information. Valentine is scared of his father, Dino, and wouldn't want the DNA paternity information to reach Dino.If Valentine Longcaster (as possible Charlotte abuser), finds out he is the biological father of Charlotte's children and realises that Charlotte has found this out, that could be a strong motive for murder, particularly as he was appalled by the incest between Decima and Rupert. It will be interesting to see if Rupert makes an appearance in Book 9.* See Louise Freeman Davis' Strike and Ellacott Timelines at The Farting Sofa Faculty Lounge.4. Your conclusion is a mind-blower as I've written in my notes you to invite you to wake up early down under to talk about it. To skip to the Big Reveal, you think, if Charlotte was at the birthday party or learned from Cosima or Valentine about the Dino-Decima-Rupert genetic conjunction, that Valentine Longcaster has to jump to the top of the Campbell-Ross ‘assisted suicide' list. How so?5. This is fascinating theorizing, Fiona, and it highlights what Nick has said that the complexity and crowdedness of Hallmarked is a marker of Rowling crafting a “target rich” environment for Books 9 and 10 possibilities. You wrote on 4 June that what if, instead of being molested at home by Trevik, her supposed biological father, she had been abused by a schoolteacher. Why did you think that was possible and how would it color your thinking about her life and death?4 June Fiona CommentHave you considered the possibility that Leda Strike (Peggy Nancarrow) was molested by a school teacher, rather than a victim of incest. Both scenarios are obviously awful. I have been pondering this because Leda/Peggy packed up and moved so often and Cormoran and Lucy never stayed in the same school for very long.6. On 10 June you sent your magnum opus, the Leda Strike life timeline and a ‘Means Before Motive' examination of her death. Again, why bother and how did you track down the dates?7. What did the data reveal about Leda that you hadn't seen before?10 June Fiona Timeline for Leda StrikeI have been systematically going back through the Strike books using the JKR finder in an attempt to work out who killed Leda Strike.I am relying on Rowling playing fair and that the answer to the question of Leda's death and the evidence to support this has already been given to us in the books. My attempt at Leda's timeline and my murder theory are attached. There are gaps in Leda's timeline and changing dates in the books. I mostly focused on Leda's childhood, then the last few years of her life in London. I'd be interested in your thoughts.Constructing Leda's timeline was also about reaching a conclusion on whether Cormoran Strike was the product of incest. At this stage, I don't think he was. The timeline doesn't support the incest theory and I suspect Leda was away from St Mawes from when she married at 18 and left Strike Snr two weeks later until she returned to give birth to Cormoran at Truro hospital at age 20. Too many parties and gigs to go to!I'd be interested in your thoughts.Leda Strike TimelinePeggy (Leda) born in 1954.Ted and Peggy (Leda) mother died when Ted 16 and Peggy (Leda) 2.Peggy (Leda) forcible separation from Ted at the age of two.Peggy (Leda) lived with her paternal grandmother. Ted stayed with their father, Trevik.Ted leaves home for National Service (age 18?)Ted returns from National Service after Trevik dies. (age 25?) Married Joan. Peggy (Leda) (age 11?)Peggy (Leda), at age 18, escapes her paternal grandmother, and runs away with a youth who'd come to Truro with the fair. Changed her name to Leda. Ted (32 years old).Leda married youth from the fair when she was 18 years old. She had run out on her husband after only two weeks and that her sole motivation in marrying Strike Snr. (who, according to Aunt Joan, had arrived in St. Mawes with the fair) had been a new dress, and a change of name.“Leda had never stayed still long enough to present a stable target. Often her children remained in a school for mere weeks before a new enthusiasm seized her, and off they went, to a new city, a new squat, crashing on her friends' floors or, occasionally, renting. The only people who knew what was going on, and who might have contacted social services, were Ted and Joan.”1990? Leda brought Shanker (age 16), who had been stabbed, home to their squat.1991 Leda Strike met Jeff Whittaker.1992 Nick Herbert and Strike had a joint eighteenth birthday party at the Bell pub in Whitechapel.1992 Leda had fallen pregnant in Strike's eighteenth year, while he was applying for university.Leda married Jeff Whittaker in 1992.Switch born in December 1992.Leda died in 1994, (age 40?), when Lucy (age 19?) and Strike (age 20?)8. Okay, now that we have Leda's life in a mental picture, walk us through your Means Before Motive breakdown of the most likely suspects.Fiona's Theory about Leda's death: Means before motive* Means: Three Suspects1. Member(s) of Ricci family or Ricci gang member.2. Jeff Whittaker.3. Shanker. All had access to drugs.* Motive1. Unpaid drug debt (Whittaker) and Ricci's killed Leda as a warning, or2. Rival gang to Shanker's cousin's takes revenge (knowing Shanker is close to Leda) and kill Leda as a warning, or3. Drug induced murder by Whittaker.Shanker's knowledge of organised crime in London is peerless. He knows what happened, blames Whittaker, but has never said anything to Strike. (Refer Troubled Blood, chapter 27, where Strike recalls helping Shanker make a ‘delivery' in ‘92 or '93 and Shanker's reaction to Strike's recall of that).Maybe Leda was suffocated while she slept (similar to Margot Bamborough's death), then injected with heroin by her killer.* Opportunity· Jeff Whittaker (lived at squat; a drug user).· Shanker (frequently visited the squat; was close to Leda).· Member(s) of Ricci family or Ricci gang member (local drug dealers) making a delivery.9. So Shanker is both a suspect and a person of knowledge; he either did it or knew who did it? How important is Strike's memory of the Ricci drug deal delivery for Shanker in all this?10. The beauty of this theory is that it's been so well set up; who has Shanker who revered Leda on their suspect list when she revered her so – and yet it was just that relationship that would have made her so vulnerable to targeting by the Riccis if Shanker stiffed them… Hence his warning Strike off the Riccis with such care in Troubled Blood and obscuring how he knows about Barnaby is Hallmarked?John Notes 10 JuneI'm intrigued by the Ricci-Shanker connection. Shanker knows about Barnaby's and that Knowles was dispatched there; Strike sees Marco Ricci later in the story making a delivery to Barnaby's. If I'm following your notes, Shanker's panic about Strike investigating the Riccis in Troubled Blood isn't out of concern for his adopted brother but from the fear that Cormoran will learn of his relationship with the family -- and, as you speculate, that Leda was killed by them as a message to young Shanker not to cross them. Shanker testified against Whittaker to scapegoat him and perhaps because he knew the Riccis would kill him if he told the truth.* Great plot twist and one that explains the whole Knowles plot line in Hallmarked Man and the police interest in Strike's source of information; Shanker is being presented as a dangerous criminal to readers who are blind (as are Strike and Robin) to the possibility that he was the natural suspect in Leda's death because of his proximity to nihilist forces. The delivery Strike made for Shanker to Ricci and Shanker's response to Strike's memory is a critical catch in all this; well spotted!I don't think your timeline precludes either Ted being Strike's father or Trevik molesting Leda as a young woman -- or another possibility. Her birth years and years after Ted's suggests that Trevik was not her father, that her mother's death wasn't natural, and that Ted may have been Leda's father via an incestuous relationship with his mum, both victims of Trevik's abuse. Leda's adoption by her grandmother after her mother died may have been to protect her from Trevik or her simply being cast out by him. Incest is a live issue, I think, in the Cornwall household. Legal Analyst, Roger Bonakdar joins Philip Teresi breaking down some stories from a legal perspective. Terry Lynch, CEO of Power Metallic Mines Inc. (TSXV: PNPN) (OTCBB: PNPNF) (Frankfurt: IVV1), joins me for another exploration update catching us up on multiple news releases from the Lion Zone as part of their fully funded 100,000-meter drill program at the polymetallic NISK Project in Quebec.  We also discuss all the pending results still at the assay lab, other key regional exploration targets of interest for 2026 drilling, and the various technology being deployed behind their drill targeting.  Additionally, we touch upon their new JV in Saudi Arabia.   We start off with a financial update where the Company announced on June 10, 2026 the closing of its previously announced "best efforts" private placement for aggregate gross proceeds of C$28,228,750, which includes a lead order from Eric Sprott.    This capital provides the company with the ability to execute on a fully-funded exploration program on multiple targets on the ongoing six-rig drill program focused on expanding the mineralized around the Lion Zone both stepping out looking for other broad mineralized zones, and also testing at depth for the potential “Elephant Zone,” as well as at Lion West and the Tiger Deep Zone.  Terry highlighted some of the surprising gold intercept values when testing Lion Deep that will get some follow-up work. Additionally, new polymetallic targets are being tested in fan holes at the Hydro Fold-Hinge Zone, which will utilize borehole EM technology.    Additional assays from its winter 2026 drill program continue to come in with all assay results expected by mid-June for adding to the MRE. New drill results include 10.30m @ 4.04% CuEq and 4.07m @ 8.73% CuEq, with metallurgical testing confirming strong recovery potential from disseminated low-grade zones. Building on the recent Muon Tomography program launched on May 13, the Company is deploying three advanced geophysical surveys to accelerate the hunt for deeper high-grade Ni-Cu-PGE mineralization. Power Metallic is planning an Ambient Noise Tomography (ANT) survey on the Nisk Far West target, completing a gravity survey over the Lion area, and completing a superconducting quantum magnetometer SQUIDs survey over the Lion area. These state-of-the-art techniques will sharpen targeting for the Lion Zone extensions and new discoveries across the expanding property, leveraging Power Metallic's significant 2025 land acquisitions.   One of the larger upcoming Company milestones will be completing the work building towards an initial NI-43-101 Mineral Resource Estimate (MRE) on the Lion Zone and an update of the Nisk Ni-Cu-Pd deposit MRE with completion and reporting of estimates by the end of July. This MRE will form the basis for a Preliminary Economic Assessment (PEA) to begin immediately following the completion of the MRE.   On May 19, 2026, Power Metallic announced that it entered into a strategic alliance and joint venture framework agreement with Amaar United Mining Company ("Amaar Mining"), a Saudi Arabian company affiliated with Amaar Holding, to jointly pursue mining license opportunities in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The agreement marks the next step in Power Metallic's expansion strategy in Saudi Arabia following the Company's award of the Jabal Baudan exploration license in the Jabal Sayid Mineralized Belt. Under the agreement, Power Metallic and Amaar Mining intend to cooperate in future Saudi mining license auction rounds and other mutually agreed opportunities, combining Power Metallic's technical, geological, and exploration capabilities with Amaar Mining's local strategic presence, coordination capacity, and regulatory interface experience in the Kingdom.   Click here to follow the latest news from Power Metallic Mines     For more market commentary & interview summaries, subscribe to our Substacks:   The KE Report: https://kereport.substack.com/ Shad's resource market commentary: https://excelsiorprosperity.substack.com/     Investment disclaimer: This content is for informational and educational purposes only and does not constitute investment advice, an offer, or a solicitation to buy or sell any security. We are breaking down the entire short-list and ranking, review, and digging into the 2026 Nebula Novel nominees from worst to best. We dive deep into the writing styles, the structure, the highs, the frustratingly bad endings, and reveal exactly who took home the final trophy. Are these books actually masterclasses in modern sci-fi and fantasy, or did the hype train leave the tracks?  Here is our definitive 2026 Nebula breakdown:  7. Death of the Author by Nnedi Okorafor  You should read it if: You love deep-dives into African culture, Ibo and Yoruba roots, and tech concepts like futuristic exoskeleton legs. You shouldn't read it if: You require a persistent central conflict, cohesive subplots, or a "story-within-a-story" that actually goes somewhere. 6. Wearing the Lion by John Wiswell You should read it if: You want a cozy Hercules retelling where Hera calls Zeus a "dipshit" and Heracles tries to befriend mythological monsters instead of fighting them. You shouldn't read it if: You get annoyed by overly preachy or cloying endings, repetitive quest structures, or confusing second-person POV shifts. 5. Katabasis by R. F. Kuang  You should read it if: You are obsessed with dark academia themes, the dangers of academic flow states, and complex, highly allusional world-building. You shouldn't read it if: You need to deeply connect with your protagonists or get easily annoyed by writing that feels a little too self involved. 4. When We Were Real by Daryl Gregory You should read it if: You love quick, humorous POV switches, AGI, simulation theory, and brain emulation concepts. You shouldn't read it if: You are looking for a groundbreaking, deeply unique masterpiece—this one is cute, but a bit unspecial. 3. Sour Cherry by Natalia Theodoridou You should read it if: You like heavy foreshadowing, experimental voice-switching (shifting to 2nd person), and intense meta-narratives. You shouldn't read it if: You hate a massive buildup that doesn't actually come together or stick the landing at the end. 1. (TIED) The Incandescent by Emily Tesh You should read it if: You want adult-oriented cozy fantasy in a magic boarding school featuring a workaholic, middle-aged bisexual teacher and casual, biscuit-eating printer demons. You shouldn't read it if: A rushed, abrupt ending with a thin villain motivation is going to completely sour your overall enjoyment of a great setup. 1. (TIED & WINNER) The Buffalo Hunter Hunter by Stephen Graham Jones You should read it if: You want a beautifully written, highly literary Native American Blackfoot vampire revenge story set in the brutal landscape of the American West. You shouldn't read it if: You get bored by a monotonous middle section where the central premise loses steam and repeats itself. No spoilers anywhere in this episode. n this Spiritual Emphasis message, Daniel Bentley preaches a powerful word, calling us to fix our eyes on Jesus in a world filled with distraction. In a culture trained to scroll, glance, and move on, Daniel reminds us that the invitation of Scripture is to slow down and truly behold the Lord. Drawing from the writings of John, Daniel walks through three powerful pictures of Jesus. First, we behold the Lamb of God, the sinless sacrifice whose blood was shed for us. Then we behold the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the conquering King whose victory was revealed through the cross. Finally, we behold the love of the Father, the otherworldly love that calls us sons and daughters of God. “What you continually behold, you eventually become like,” Daniel said. He also reminded us, “Don't scroll past the cross.” The cross is not just an event to be remembered. It is an invitation to be received. This message challenges us to recognize what has captured our attention. The enemy wants us to fix our eyes on our past, our shame, our failure, and ourselves. But freedom begins when we lift our eyes and behold Jesus as He truly is. He is the Lamb who was slain, the Lion who reigns, and the love of God revealed. When we look to Calvary, we are changed from the inside out. We are reminded that we are chosen, wanted, accepted, forgiven, and free in Jesus.

Stories Of The Bible Junior - A Saddleback Kids Podcast

Rawrr! Prayer is good, right? But what happens when someone makes it against the law to pray?!?! Find out in this great episode!Prayer is talking to GodDaniel would continuously talk to God through prayer. Even when he was threatened to be thrown into the lion's den, Daniel would continue to pray to God.Devote yourselves to prayer with an alert mind and a thankful heart.– Colossians 4:2Daniel 2, Daniel 6Daniel and the Lion's DenDaniel was a very good, faithful man, who always obeyed God. He would pray to God consistently, three times a day. Daniel had a very close relationship to God due to how often he would talk to God through prayer and because of his unshakable faith. God also gave Daniel an incredible gift—Daniel was able to interpret dreams. This gift led Daniel to successfully interpreted King Nebuchadnezzar's dream. The king then gave Daniel a high up position in the kingdom and gave him many gifts. Because Daniel was so smart, other wise men in the kingdom were very jealous. Their jealousy led them to convince King Darius to make a new law—that the people were only allowed to pray to the king. If people chose not to obey this law, they would be thrown in the lion's den. These jealous men knew that Daniel would never obey this law since he would pray to God several times a day.Daniel continued to pray in his room, even when he had heard about this new law. After the jealous men saw him do this, they told King Darius. This made King very upset because he cared for Daniel and tried to get him out of trouble, but knew there was no way around it. Before throwing him in the den, King Darius told Daniel “Your God, to whom you are so loyal, is going to get you out of this.” The next morning, King Darius went to check on Daniel and heard Daniel say “My God sent his angel to shut the lion's mouths so that they would not hurt me, for I have been found innocent in his sight. And I have wronged you, Your majesty.” Daniel had not been harmed! They both knew that Daniel was protected because he had completely trusted God and had faith in Him. Daniel had a great amount of love for the Lord. Daniel also had a deep and personal connection to God because he would intentionally talk to God all the time through prayer. Regardless of the situation he was facing, he would make time to pray. Sometimes, we can get so caught up in our daily routine, that we neglect to prioritize our quiet time with God. But the truth is, God wants to hear from us—He wants us to talk to Him because of His love for each and every one of us.I can talk to God. Questions to think about:1. Why did Daniel continue to pray, even when he knew his life would be threatened?2. Why did Daniel have such a close relationship with God?3. How can I remember to talk to God on a daily basis?

Send us Fan MailSomebody is shaping you, whether you mean to let them or not. That's why this Fun Friday member spotlight hits deeper than laughs, even with plenty of dad jokes along the way. We sit down with Doug Mills, a longtime Lion and the familiar name behind our weekly dad jokes, to talk about what actually changes a man over time. Doug shares his story growing up in a huge family, coming to a real commitment of faith later in life, and how he found our community while looking for help when his marriage wasn't in a great place. From there we get practical: why consistent Bible time matters, how couple's night creates momentum for Christian marriage, and what it looks like when your wife can genuinely see the fruit of spiritual leadership. We are excited to be speaking at Mountain Life Church in Park City Utah on June 20th.  Lock in your spot at this link to register. Our latest plan just released on the Bible App called I'm Just a Guy: Feeling Stuck at Work. Daniel prays where people can see him, but Jesus tells his followers not to pray just to be noticed. So did Daniel and Jesus disagree about prayer? Kaitlyn explains why Daniel's prayer was an act of quiet faithfulness, not religious showmanship, and why Jesus was warning against using prayer to impress an audience. Mike and Kaitlyn talk about public faith, political protest, performative religion, and the difference between staying faithful to God and trying to look faithful to everyone else.   0:00 - Theme Song   0:58 - Was Daniel a Hypocrite?   6:57 - What's the Lion's Den Story's Point?   11:40 - Sponsor - Belonging by Design - Learn how to show up for special-needs families at your church.
