The Rich Zeoli Show- Hour 3: 5:05pm- In her new article for The Washington Examiner, columnist Salena Zito asks did Trump make a 4D chess move with his speech in Wildwood, New Jersey? Zito writes: “In 2016, Clinton won Mahoning County with 49% of the vote, defeating Trump by a hair. For perspective, just four years earlier, then-President Barack Obama crushed Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney by a whopping 28 points in the Mahoning Valley, earning 63% of the vote of this mostly white working-class voter base. Those same working-class white voters, on whom Democrats relied to carry the state twice for the first Black president, would soon be called racist, uneducated, and angry just four years later for supporting Trump. Fast-forward to last weekend when Trump, plagued by nonstop reports of his trial for allegedly covering up hush money payments, held a rally in Wildwood, New Jersey, and attracted more than 80,000 supporters in a state no Republican presidential candidate has won since then-Vice President George H.W. Bush in 1988.” Will Trump win the 2024 presidential election thanks to his appeal to working class Americans who feel left behind by the Democrat party? You can read her full story here: https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/opinion/3003815/was-trump-making-4d-chess-move-speech-new-jersey/ 5:30pm- During an Oxford Union debate, Winston Marshall—the former banjoist and lead guitarist for the band Mumford & Sona—argued that “Populism has become a word used synonymously with ‘racist'…with ‘bigot,' with ‘hillbilly'…elites use it to show their contempt for ordinary people.” Throughout the evening, Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) interrupted her debate opponent—claiming that populism is a threat to democracy and that the 2016 election had been “hijacked.” 5:40pm- Rich keeps unbuttoning his shirt as part of an effort to grow our YouTube audience…but nobody wants to see that!

Have you ever dreamt of seeing your name in the national press? Maybe a TV appearance? Or what about the radio? On this episode of the podcast, I talk about all three and how they can be accomplished on zero budget. For many, national press is a goal, and I can understand why. It absolutely gives you a warm, fuzzy feeling and others really respect it. But don't be set on getting your name in print at the expense of the niche media. As I explain on this week's episode, you might find one has greater value to your business and one has greater value to your ego. To find out the one tool I used to get column inches and a TV appearance at the very end of last year, tune in, have a listen, and get going!

Gail Jones is an intuitive coach, gifted wordsmith, Worthiness Expert, and inspiring teacher who has been leading clients through transformation for more than 20 years! She is the author of two books, Cancer as a Love Story: Developing the Mindset for Living AND ALSO To Hell and Back...Healing Your Way through Transition. Gail has appeared as a guest Worthiness Coach nationally on CBS's Emmy award-winning talk show The Doctors as well as Sirius XM Radio. Follow Gail: https://linktr.ee/coachgailjones Claim Your Worthiness Website: https://claimyourworthiness.com/ Gail's Books: https://claimyourworthiness.com/books/ Gail's Writing Awards and National Press: https://claimyourworthiness.com/çpress-media/ Learn more about Coach Gail: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Job_8_ZZMjE Inspiration & Resources from Gail: It's okay to tell people that you're hurt, scared, or angry and need some comfort; not advice. Lean in to love, support and comfort. Your time to receive nurturance may be long overdue. You will achieve a greater sense of worthiness once you learn to receive. In her battle with cancer, Gail combined conventional medicine (lumpectomy) and alternative treatments as well—her book Cancer as a Love Story is evenly balanced, expressing the importance of both sides. More importantly than whether you seek out conventional, alternative, or a combination of both, is that you release the emotional stressors that may have contributed to cancer in the first place. This is exactly what Gail coaches, using EFT Tapping; she covers this in her book as well. Gail completed extensive training with Dr. Joe Dispenza, world renowned for his work in neuroscience, training the mind to heal the body. Gail highlights “chemo, radiation, and other drugs don't release he stressors” And “most conventional doctors aren't trained in the emotional components as discussed by Dr. Gabor Maté.” He states that he can tell who will get cancer based on their childhood. Gail believes that having a schizophrenic mom greatly contributed to her cancer, as she lived in “fight or flight” most of her life. (Resource) Why We Get Sick with Dr Gabor Maté: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-y92ZHuMAPw The three years before a woman is diagnosed with breast cancer are often “off the charts” stressful years for many. They certainly were for Gail—during the recession of 2008 she had to sell her house, she was dealing with repercussions of divorce, had a child in college, assigned legal guardianship of her schizophrenic mom, all while taking care of two teenagers as a single parent. Learning to make oneself a priority is critical. Many of those who get breast cancer are in the helping professions—teachers, nurses, coaches, healers, etc.—where they are consistently “giving” or “over giving.” Learning to say no, and set boundaries, are new skills to develop. Getting one's mindset aligned with the body's innate ability to heal is key, and surrounding yourself with environments and people that support that is important too. CLAIMING ONE'S WORTHINESS TO LIVE CAN EXTEND LONGEVITY, as noted by three different healers in Gail's book. AN IMPORTANT ISSUE NO ONE TALKS ABOUT: For some, a cancer diagnosis changes the psyche, with a loss of innocence and having to face one's mortality for the first time. There can be an extra sense of fragility going forward, yet to those who know the survivor, many think that once the cancer is gone, everything is fine. Rarely is anyone “the same” again. Fear of recurrence lives within for many, which can also ignite one to grab life in new ways. Gail's mantra has became “SAY YES TO LIFE!” Remember, “alternative” is not rebellious; often complimentary to conventional, and it takes a lot of work, discipline and can be a lonely path to follow. BUILD A TRIBE who will support you.

Link to article: https://bit.ly/3I6ECmcIn 2021, China put major restrictions on gaming in the country and even stopped licensing new games. As a result, 14,000 gaming-related businesses have deregistered and effectively shut down since July of last year.China did more than just ban video games for kids during school nights in 2021. The country's National Press and Publication Administration (NPPA) also froze its game licensing process. The NPPA hasn't approved any new titles in six months, making this the longest amount of time China has suspended the process. While thousands of small companies have shut down, larger ones have adapted to the stalled gaming industry in China by looking to new markets and laying off employees. Tencent is opening a branch in Singapore, while ByteDance — parent company of TikTok — has been laying off employees at Ohayoo, a gaming company focused on the Chinese market.Ohayoo's 150 games have been downloaded over 500 million times, but success hasn't made the company immune. ByteDance has now delayed Ohayoo's IPO to the end of 2022 and has laid off “nearly 100” employees. This is far from the first time China has restricted gaming within its borders. All video game consoles had previously been banned for 15 years, with authorities citing a concern over childhood development. China's president has spoken out against video game addiction among minors and believes that making gaming for more than a few hours illegal was the best solution. He's also capped the amount of money children can spend on games to 200 yuan ($31 USD) a month. But China's gaming restrictions for kids haven't exactly worked. SupChina reported that once Chinese children use up their limited gaming time, they turn to social media and watch others game. And on the internet, kids can pay to borrow adults' accounts for a few hours so they can circumvent the rules for minors. With children's gaming freedoms restricted and a national moratorium on new game licenses, it's unclear if the country — which has called video games “spiritual opium” — will change its tune anytime soon.Support the show (https://bit.ly/2XdAlJC)
Screens are taking over our lives. According to market research firm eMarketer, in 2020 adults in the US spent an average of 7 hours and 50 minutes per day looking at screens. That total is likely much higher for desk workers, who look at their computers during the work day then look at their phones or TVs in the evening. Screen time is bad enough for adults, but what about kids? Video games, social media, show streaming, and messaging have all become common activities not just for teens, but for children too, and the impacts often aren't positive. Two weeks ago, for example, the Wall Street Journal broke the story that Facebook has downplayed findings from its own research on the ill effects of its platforms (namely Instagram) on teenage girls. Rates of depression, anxiety, and eating disorders among adolescents and adults are on the rise. In the US, it's mostly up to parents to restrict or control their kids' screen time and social media usage. But the degree to which parents try to limit these activities (and succeed at doing so) varies widely. In China, it's a different story. Forget parents—the government has taken matters into its own hands and is seeing to it that kids don't while away their time (and their young developing brains) on worthless screen-centered activities. Out of Time At the end of August, China's National Press and Publication Administration implemented new rules restricting the amount of time that minors (defined here as under age 18) can spend playing video games, slashing the limit to one hour per day on weekends and holidays. The previous limit, set in 2019, was 3 hours on holidays and 1.5 hours on other days. Two weeks ago, ByteDance Ltd., which owns TikTok and its Chinese version Douyin, followed suit, implementing restrictions for users under 14. The app's new “youth mode” allows kids and teens to be on the platform for up to 40 minutes a day total, and only between the hours of 6am and 10pm. “Adolescents are the future of the motherland, and protecting the physical and mental health of minors is related to the vital interests of masses, and in cultivating newcomers in the era of national rejuvenation,” the Press and Publications Administration said in a statement. In other words, the youth are the future, and if we let screens and social media turn their brains to mush while they're young, the future's not going to be very bright. Screen Time and Geopolitics? The restrictions come amid growing geopolitical tensions between China and the US, and crackdowns by the Chinese government over various sectors of the economy, from big tech to education to ride-hailing and real estate. Limiting kids' screen time may not appear to be connected to China's geopolitical ambitions, but considering the longer-term implications of these policies says otherwise. All else being equal, which country is more likely to produce a generation of great leaders, innovators, scientists, businesspeople, creatives, and the like: one where clear rules (and a cultural stigma) around screens force kids to spend time on more productive activities and curb the negative effects of screens on their mental health—or one where kids spend hours each day immersed in virtual worlds, distracting them from real-life activities and wearing down their self-esteem, focus, and social skills in the process? Of course, not all else is equal between China and the US. Though both nations are global powerhouses, they're worlds apart in terms of culture, government, education systems, and social norms, to name just a few. It's not unreasonable to think that government restrictions on kids' screen time could help make China's next generation more capable than America's. But for one, it's uncertain how strictly the time limits will be enforced. Douyin and gaming platforms will require name and age verification, and some gaming platforms will do periodic facial recognition checks on players. Kathleen opens the show drinking a Singing Frog Golden Lager from The Wynn in Las Vegas, sipping the beer from her Seamus McDaniel's pub pint glass. Kathleen then shares with the Termites all off her favorite highlights from her show at The Ryman in downtown Nashville, thrilled that she got to finally meet her Twitter friend Stella Parton, whom she can't wait to drink red wine with. Kathleen then gives an update on her birthday plans taking place on September 30th: she's going to the Ozarks to golf with her parents and see some friends, and then is excited to be heading to Johnny Morris's Big Cedar Lodge to golf with her siblings and cousins and drink in a cave bar. TERMITE SHOUTOUTS: Kathleen gives thanks to the Termites who leave notes at shows and send mail to her PO Box. She begins by thanking Termites from the Savannah Bananas for her new baseball-style t-shirt, and from Termite Baba Valentino for the cool golf balls. She then thanks Termite Donna from Abilene, TX for her homemade Pubcast sign and funky gravy boat. “GOOD BAD FOOD”: In her quest for new and delicious not-so-nutritious junk food AND in continuing her search for the best Ranch, Kathleen samples Drew's Creamy Ranch dressing from Vermont, which she loves. She moves on to taste Cap'N Crunch Chocolate Caramel Crunch, which she thinks is too sweet, and prefers Crunch Berries. Kathleen rounds out her tasting menu sampling the limited edition Cool Ranch Doritos, which she likes but still prefers the original or taco flavored Doritos. UPDATE ON KATHLEEN'S QUEEN'S COURT: Kathleen has limited updates on the Queens this week, but hopes that recent music releases and tour activity will provide more activity for next week's report. MOBSTER TIED TO ISABELLA STEWART GARDNER MUSEUM DIES: Kathleen provides an update that alleged mobster Robert Gentile, thought to have been the last person alive with knowledge of who committed the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum art heist, has died at the age of 85 of a stroke. THERANOS TRIAL UPDATE: Kathleen continues her obsession with seeing the downfall of Elizabeth Holmes, providing an update on Theranos trial currently taking place in California. She reads an article specifically reviewing Holmes' crazy emails sent in the middle of the night to employees while she was at the company's helm, as well as her defense strategy of trying to block testimony on her extravagant personal expenses while SAM ADAMS' ILLEGAL BEER: Kathleen is thrilled to read an article announcing that brewer Sam Adams is releasing the latest beer in their Utopias collection, which is available in limited capacity every 2 years. This release is so strong, it's illegal in 15 states because this year, the brews carry a staggering 28 percent alcohol by volume or ABV. By comparison, the classic Samuel Adams Boston Lager is just 5 percent ABV.CHINA BANS KIDS FROM MIDWEEK GAMING: Kathleen reads an article from China where new rules recently published by China's National Press and Publication Administration are allowing kids and teens under 18 years old be limited to three hours per week to play online video games. Kathleen laughs at the outcry that would happen in the US if such a move was made. THE WORLD'S LARGEST CRUISE SHIP DEBUTS: Never being a lover of cruise ship travel, Kathleen reads an announcement from Royal Caribbean advising that their newest ship, the Wonder of the Seas, has been authenticated as the largest cruise ship in the world. Originally meant to set sail from China, the ship will now begin sailing from Florida to the Caribbean in March 2022. The Wonder of the Seas will feature 8 “neighborhoods” and revised amenities such as a full waterslide. All of Kathleen's thoughts on cruise ship travel can be heard on her bits “Cruise Ship Day 1” and “Cruise Ship Day 2.”THE OLDEST LOBSTER TRAPPER IN MAINE: Kathleen is thrilled to read an article from Maine profiling Virginia Oliver, who has been fishing for lobsters for over a century. Despite having surpassed the typical retirement age decades ago, the Rockland, Maine-based fisherwoman works with her son, Max, catching lobsters three days a week from May through November. Kathleen applauds Virginia's efforts and work ethic, stating that the only other person that she could envision working into a second century would be her father, Jack. THE ‘SUEZ CANAL ON RAILS' UNVEILED: As listeners know, Kathleen loves a train ride and has a mad appreciation for any improvement to infrastructure. She's envious to read of plans in Cairo, Egypt where the Egyptian government has signed a $4.45 billion deal for a high-speed electric rail line to link its Red Sea and Mediterranean coasts. The 410-mile rail link will include a mainline designed to carry more than 30 million passengers annually as well as a freight line and will run between the Red Sea port of Ain Sokhna and 2 Mediterranean ports. Kathleen laughs that she's waited her entire life for a train to connect St. Louis and the Lake of the Ozarks, and wouldn't care how fast it traveled as long as there was a bar car made available. RUSSIAN CHESS STAR SUES NETFLIX: Like many Termites, Kathleen loved the premises of the Netflix series “The Queen's Gambit.” She reads an update where a former Soviet chess champion, Nona Gaprindashvili, is suing Netflix for defamation over the incorrect chronological sequence of the final episode where Gaprindashvili is referenced by name as not having ever faced male opponents, when in fact she HAD by 1968, the year that the last episode was situated in. No further details have been released from Netflix, but you can bet that Mama T will be on the lookout for an update!HOW TO BE LIKE WARREN BUFFETT: (or at least eat like him ☺) Kathleen loves reading about billionaire Warren Buffett, not only because he's a true Midwest delight but also because he's chosen to remain in Omaha his entire life and doesn't mind sharing some of the simple financial practices that he uses in his everyday life. Kathleen reads an article that outlines 9 frugal habits of Buffett's that we can incorporate to save money, and she laughs at her own approach to “wealth management” and her arguments with her brother Patrick over the cost of a cup of Starbucks coffee. She DOES agree with Buffett's love of McDonald's Egg McMuffin for breakfast and recommends not skipping out on an accompanying Diet Coke just because you can save more money buying the soda by the 12-pack. RALEIGH'S LOST COLONY: Kathleen loves history, and is excited to read an article announcing that archaeologists are embarking on a search for the lost colony of Roanoke in an attempt to determine what happened to the 117 people who completely vanished after its settlement. It's one of the nation's great mysteries: The first permanent colony of English settlers in what would become the United States, specifically North Carolina in 1587 by Sir Walter Raleigh, disappeared three years after it was erected with virtually no trace.THE MOB CHILDREN VS THE FBI: Kathleen laughs out loud reading an article announcing that a fugitive consigliere in Colombo crime family was recently arrested after his son taunted the FBI with a Florida poolside post of his father a day after his suspected mob family was arrested in a New York City raid. The taunting post was hurriedly deleted, but not in enough time for Federal Agents to screengrab the information and enact an arrest plan. Ralph DiMatteo, 66, was the only person mentioned in the federal indictment to evade arrest, and that's because it was able to be proven that he was soaking up the Florida rays. The Chief Medical Examiner in Washington, DC, ruled Ashley Babbitt's death was a homicide caused by being shot by the Capitol Police Officer (who still has not been identified). Yet, the Biden DOJ has announced it has closed that case. Louis Avallone reviews all the truly violent rioting going on across the country, and none of those people, including BLM and Antifa rioters, have been charged, which highlights the reality that for Democrats, there is a 2-tiered system of justice today. This is a situation which our Nation cannot tolerate if we are to survive. We must be EQUAL JUSTICE FOR ALL.Does anyone think the way to deal with a school yard bully is to present a written list of demands that the bully “just must not do any more”? So why in the world did the Biden Administration think that giving Putin a list of was a smart thing to do with Putin? Biden is proud of giving Putin a list of things the Russians just must not cyber attack in the United States any more! He said “I gave [Putin] a list of…16 specific entities, 16 defined as critical infrastructure under US policy from the energy sector to our water systems,” Did we not just put a target on those? Our American Mamas, Denise Arthur, says Chrissy Teigen keeps trying to make herself relevant by being a bully, and she has a history of her unkind behavior, including trying to destroy people's careers. Talk about the “Captain of the Mean Girls Club”! But she has a solution — Oprah! The idea is this: “If Oprah can forgive Chrissy, then so can the nation.”Abortion clinics are not good about providing full disclosure regarding options other than an abortion. The Louisiana Legislature has passed a bill which would make a little more disclosure mandatory for chemical induced abortions. The physician would now be required to provide written disclosure that if taken immediately, there is another pill which gives the woman and the unborn baby a second chance. So many women have lived to regret their decision to end their unborn babies lives. This helps to give them both one last chance. The Louisiana Governor still needs to sign it.Even though so many in the eastern part of the United States were in big trouble of not having gasoline when the Colonial Pipeline was hacked, the entire Democrat Party is totally committed to destroying the entire Oil and Gas Industry, for the purpose of forcing everyone into driving “electric” cars and living in “solar” houses. This is very flawed thinking because the overall damage done by solar, wind, and electric battery products to the environment worldwide is huge. But having shut down the Keystone Pipeline, the Democrats are trying to go for all the others….again ignoring that it is so much environment friendly to transport oil and gas by pipe than by truck or rail.Texas Governor Greg Abbott has invited Donald Trump to come to the Texas-Mexico Southern Border for a tour of the problems since VP Kamala Harris refuses to do so, which is actually her job! Everyone's best guess as to why she is refusing to come is that the National Press would come with her — and THEN everyone in America would know the Democrats had deliberately destroyed everything that was working to secure the security of the United States! In celebrating Juneteenth, it is important to remember it was the Republicans who freed the Slaves who were owned by Democrats. But in creating Juneteenth as a National Holiday, the Democrats are, once again, trying to make the Blacks think they are “the good guys” and the Republicans are the evil ones….at least when you hear what some of the Congressional leaders had to say about it. This should be a good celebration, but only if remembered honestly and factually. The slaves were freed because the Democrats in the South were defeated in the Civil War.

In 2015 Fiona Simson became the first female president of the Australia's peak farmer group. Fiona hails from a farming operation near Gunnedah on NSW's Liverpool Plains, running a farming enterprise with her husband Ed and family including broad acre farming as well as breeding commercial poll Hereford cattle. 2019 was not an easy year for farmers is that part of the world, in fact probably one of the toughest ever seen. However, Fiona is adamant that she doesn't not want agriculture in Australia to be defined by these tough times and I quote from a recent National Press conference presentation ‘Many farmers, including me, take offence, to the portrayals of the ‘broken down', ‘hand-out-dependent' farmer profile peddled by many members of the media. And she went on to say ‘Ag is not only an industry with a special place in our past, but also an exciting place in our future. In line with this, it's not surprising that the NFF has embarked on two ambitious settings for Australian agriculture 1. The value for farm gate output to be valued at $100 billion by 2030. Currently around $70bn 2. That Australian Agriculture reaches Carbon Neutrality by 2050. Add to this Murray Darlings Basin, Covid and China current trade settings, just to name a few this job is not without it challenges With these in mind I look forward to chatting to Fiona today about leadership, vision and making a difference.

On episode 086 of The Quarantine Tapes, Paul Holdengräber is joined by writer Peter Kimani. With lockdowns, curfews, traffic jams, and technological deficiencies, Kimani and Holdengräber explore the many disruptive challenges the pandemic has presented in Kenya. As a journalist, Kimani describes his perspectives on the cultural mosaic of Kenya, and how the national press informs the multitudinous Kenyan society. When discussing his influences, Kimani reads the poem Nostos by Louise Gluck, a work that is one of his favorites, and Kimani reflects on the mercurial images of childhood and memory reflected in that poem. Kimani and Holdengräber then discuss the imminent Kenyan writer and educator, Ngugi wa Thiong’o, and how his nuanced narratives about cultural imperialism has impacted Kimani’s life and writing.Peter Kimani is a Kenyan journalist, poet and author of, most recently, Dance of the Jakaranda, a New York Times Notable Book of the Year. He’s also the editor of Nairobi Noir, which was published early this year by Akashic Books. Kimani has taught fiction and non-fiction at Amherst College and the University of Houston. He is on the faculty of Aga Khan University in Nairobi. Footnotes Nostos by Louise Glück There was an apple tree in the yard — this would have been forty years ago — behind, only meadows. Drifts off crocus in the damp grass. I stood at that window: late April. Spring flowers in the neighbor's yard. How many times, really, did the tree flower on my birthday, the exact day, not before, not after? Substitution of the immutable for the shifting, the evolving. Substitution of the image for relentless earth. What do I know of this place, the role of the tree for decades taken by a bonsai, voices rising from tennis courts — Fields. Smell of the tall grass, new cut. As one expects of a lyric poet. We look at the world once, in childhood.
The Peabody Hotel in downtown Memphis , Tennessee , first opened its doors in 1869. An integral part of the grand Peabody since the 1930s is the Mallard ducks who live on the roof and parade twice daily through the hotel’s lobby. The Peabody is where Elvis went for his senior prom, and it’s where Mr. Lansky, tailor to the stars, dressed Elvis in pink for his first live performance and continued to select his wardrobe for the next two decades. Join correspondent Tom Wilmer at the Peabody for a visit with Duckmaster Doug Weatherford. Afterward we’ll stop in at the nearby International Blues Society and the Blues Hall of Fame for a visit with docent and local radio host , Reed Malkin. Even though no other President has done this, Stephen Parr found the National Press has not always reported on President Trump’s quarterly donations of his 1/4 of his salary; so in this segment of “Digging Deep”, he shares that information. The Presidency is paid $400,000 a year, making each donation be $100,000.

Interesting facts: My first job was in Nuclear Engineering. I like finance - coming second in a competition at Microsoft Asia HQ. I'm obsessed with self-development, lifting myself out of depression and regular panic attacks. I'm binary, it's 100% or nothing. I love going on adventures especially skiing or surfing. One of my hardest challenges to date. Opened up trading with ethical factories in Ghana. Raised £10,000 on Kickstarter in 2017 to begin the project, being featured in National Press. Donated backpacks to be filled as Xmas parcels for the homeless. Generated £40,000 in turnover from the first year of trading. So far we have sold 1000 backpacks and now sell a range of accessories.

Episode Webpage: http://www.missingwitches.com/2018/09/30/episode-2-ipsita…d-all-are-hunted/ http://theyoungbengalbrigade.com/ A story of visions, rose petals, arrogance and activism, told through the eyes, craft and writings of Ipsita Roy Chakraverti. Our story begins in 1960’s Montreal. A ten year old Indian girl, Ipsita Roy Chakraverti from West Bengal, is about to have the first in a lifelong series of encounters with the supernatural leading her like breadcrumbs to a life of witchcraft: she’d go on to spend her teenage years in a secret women’s school devoted to ancient mystery studies in the Laurentians, North of Montreal; publicly declare herself a witch in India’s National Press, and dedicate her life to protecting women from the rape and torture of the modern witch hunt. With an Elvis Presley detour along the way.

William Allen, Migration Observatory, COMPAS, University of Oxford, gives a talk for the COMPAS Breakfast Briefing series. On 1 January 2014, transitional controls placed on Bulgarians and Romanians wanting to work in the UK were lifted. From 1 December 2012 to 1 December 2013, arguably a crucial time in the run-up to this important change, UK national newspapers discussed the potential magnitude, impacts, and composition of migrants from these countries. But how did the British national press portray these groups? What kinds of issues were raised in relation to people from these countries? This briefing will explore these questions using new research from The Migration Observatory, Bulgarians and Romanians in the British National Press: 1 December 2012 – 1 December 2013. Analysing the language used by different sections of the UK national press (tabloids and broadsheets) to describe Bulgarians and Romanians over an entire year reveals clear differences in the kinds of words used to refer to each group. Furthermore, it uncovers a range of numerical figures referring to anticipated numbers of migrants that circulated in the press, despite a continuing lack of official data.
