In Part 2 of this in-depth interview with James Mather we talk more about his work as Supervising Sound Editor on the final 4 Harry Potter films (Order of The Phoenix, Half Blood Prince, Deathly Hollows Pt 1&2). James digs into the sound of the horcrux and how the overall sound design was able to become more complex/scary as the main characters grew up. There is also an added bonus of a mini interview with Gillian Dodders, Ben Barker & Glenn Freemantle about their work on The Fantastic Beast Trilogy. All of that is proceeded by Tim's run down of his trip to Mexico City for a recent Tonebenders/MPSE/SAE Institute event, including his adventure being detained by police at the airport on his way home?! Nicolas Flamel, the alchemist from Harry Potter, was a real 14th-century Parisian bookseller who became legendary for supposedly discovering the secret to immortality—and some believe he faked his death in 1418 and is still alive today.Support our Halloween “Overcoming the Darkness” campaign to help people with depression: https://weirddarkness.com/HOPEIN THIS EPISODE: It's what every non-muggle dreams of… to be able to turn any metal into gold and to create a magic potion to give one eternal life! So is the life of wizarding at Hogwarts in the Harry Potter books. But was there a real Philosopher's Stone? Was there a Real Nicolas Flamel who created it? (The Real Nicolas Flamel and the Philosopher's Stone) *** In 1929 the Soviet Union decided seven days a week just too many to keep track of, and it's easier to count by five – so in the USSR they suddenly began to live life with only five days per week. No more weekends. How do you think the citizens took that news? (What is Life in a Five Day Week?) *** While not nearly as well-known as its larger Bermudan brother, the Bridgewater Triangle in southeastern Massachusetts in the United States is home to strange tales itself, with the paranormal, unexplained, and even home to its very own cryptid. (The Eerie Inhabitants of the Mysterious Bridgewater Triangle) *** Author Margaret Helen James wrote, “There is an uncomfortable sort of ghostly terror, in beast form, that haunts the villages on the borders of the two counties, which is commonly called the ‘Hateful Thing'. I allude to the churchyard or hell-beast.” Something was terrifying people in the marshlands of a small county in England and tales of it can still bring nightmares to those who live there today. Today we are covering a woman whose life was so full of drama we are still talking about her 500 years later... Mary Queen of Scots. We're not only covering the twists, betrayals, and wild scandals of Scottish history, but we're also reliving our own adventures in Scotland — from cozy hot chocolate in Edinburgh to getting terrorized by Scottish teens and even visiting the very castle where part of Mary's story went down, Holyrood Castle. You'll learn:Why Mary's life was basically a soap opera-meets-Game of Thrones. How her choices in love (spoiler: bad ones) shaped the fate of nations. Why her name still sparks fascination centuries later.Fun and spooky Harry Potter connections in Edinburgh, including the haunted graveyard that inspired Tom Riddle. Our top Scotland travel recommendations: Uplands Roast hot chocolate in The Meadows, Mellis Cheese Shop in Edinburgh, strolling colorful Victoria Street, and experiencing the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

Halloween is upon us! Costumes, trick-or-treating, and plenty of controversy! In today's episode, Pastor Derek and Pastor Jackie look at whether or not witches and witchcraft are something Christians should be concerned with. Many costumes involve witches, but is it wrong to dress that way? We dig into the history of witches and witchcraft, dating all the way back to early biblical references. We then look at modern Wicca and even talk through some popular fantasy series that involve witchcraft, like Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, and The Chronicles of Narnia to talk through how Christians should deal with these forms of entertainment. Take a listen and we hope this is helpful for you in your walk with the Lord this Halloween season! The 17:17 podcast is a ministry of Roseville Baptist Church (MN) that seeks to tackle cultural issues and societal questions from a biblical worldview so that listeners discover what the Bible has to say about the key issues they face on a daily basis. The Potter Discussion: Harry Potter, Fantastic Beasts and the Wizarding World Fandom
Send us a textIn this episode, we discuss Harry's journey from the hut on the rock and his introduction into the wizarding world. Enjoy!Topics/Summary:· 1:19 Recap and opening with the hut on the rock. We should see a little bit of what the Dursleys think about this revelation. Petunia always wanted to hear this for her, so how does this show within her? Vernon is adamant and denies it, and Dudley has no idea what's happening.· 12:30 Hagrid and Harry's journey into the Muggle world. Hagrid enchants the boat to row them back to the mainland, and maybe we get a glimpse at the beautiful English countryside that represents the identity that has been revealed. In the Leaky Cauldron, Harry gets his first look at what it means to be Harry Potter in the wizarding world. He shakes hands and wonders what he got himself into.· 20:00 Diagon Alley! We aren't going to skip a single scene. The archway opens and he is faced with pure magic. Everything from the bank to the bookstore should be examined in detail. The conversation with Ollivader should remain unchanged because it's super important!· 26:40 The final scene is in the Leaky Cauldron. Harry and Hagrid are discussing the day, and Harry asks Hagrid why he is so famous. Hagrid tells Harry the backstory of Voldemort and his parents, and Harry finally begins to see the full story.Having anything you want to hear or say? Submission guidelines can be found at http://www.TallTaleTV.com ---- About Tall Tale TV ---- Hi there! My name is Chris Herron and I'm an audiobook narrator. In 2015, I suffered from poor Type 1 diabetes control which lead me to become legally blind for almost a year. The doctors didn't give me much hope, predicting an 80% chance that I would never see again. But I refused to give up and changed my lifestyle drastically. Through sheer willpower (and an amazing eye surgeon) I beat the odds and regained my vision. During that difficult time, I couldn't read or write, which was devastating as they had always been a source of comfort for me since childhood. However, my wife took me to the local library where she read out the titles of audiobooks to me. I selected some of my favorite books, such as the Disc World series, Name of the Wind, Harry Potter, and more, and the audiobooks brought these stories to life in a way I had never experienced before. They helped me through the darkest period of my life and I fell in love with audiobooks. Once I regained my vision, I decided to pursue a career as an audiobook narrator instead of a writer. That's why I created Tall Tale TV, to support aspiring authors in the writing communities that I had grown to love before my ordeal. My goal was to help them promote their work by providing a promotional audio short story that showcases their writing skills to readers. They say the strongest form of advertising is word of mouth, so I offer a platform for readers to share these videos and help spread the word about these talented writers. Please consider sharing these stories with your friends and family to support these amazing authors. We welcome a couple of very special guests from Rosaprima — Nicholas Chang, VP of Sales & Marketing, and Roberto Maqueo, the new Sales Manager. What happens when the ancient magic of theatre meets the disruptive energy of artificial intelligence? In this episode of The Tech Talks Daily Podcast, I sit down with Emmy-nominated producer and 440 Media founder Jeffery Keilholtz to unpack how AI is reshaping entertainment, licensing, and the very soul of live performance. From his time leading Broadway Licensing Global, home to thousands of acclaimed titles including Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, Jeffery brings a rare blend of creative and commercial insight to one of the most transformative moments in entertainment history. Our conversation explores how live entertainment faces twin challenges of visibility and scarcity in a digital age. As Jeffery explains, the rise of ChatGPT has changed how people search, discover, and decide what to see, forcing a shift from SEO to AEO, or Answer Engine Optimization. Yet even as AI floods the world with abundance, theatre's scarcity, that irreplaceable “live, local, urgent” energy, is becoming more precious than ever. Together we examine how AI can simultaneously empower and endanger creative industries, from copyright battles worth billions to the promise of smarter audience engagement and new paths to discover hidden works. Jeffery also shares his framework for balancing technology and artistry, urging creators to stay nimble like a blade of grass. He argues that surviving this era of AI-driven disruption requires humility, flexibility, and a renewed belief in human connection. It's a powerful reminder that the heartbeat of theatre, and perhaps of creativity itself, still belongs to people gathered together in the same room, sharing something that can never be replicated by a machine. How do you see AI reshaping the arts and entertainment world? Is it an existential threat to creativity or the tool that will help artists reach new heights? I'd love to hear your thoughts.

#acting #LynneJebens #NewYorkOne of the most important goals in this podcast is to have some kind of eclecticism, variety or diversity in the kind of artistic and cultural matters we try and cover. Lynne Jebens' episode certainly is a paramount example of this. Going into this episode, the first with a talent agent on our sows I had no idea we would be discussing being on the road with a Southern Rock band, the musical stylings of Bix Beiderbick, and the Joseph Mankiewicz masterpiece All About Eve all in the same episode! But this is an inevitability when you spend anytime at all with Lynne Jebens. With close to 40 years in the talent industry, Lynne Jebens gives the essentials on what an Actor must do in order to be successful in the business. The sound design in the Harry Potter series completely changed the way audiences expect magic to sound on screen. Those magical sounds also had to evolve as the series went on, to match the skills developed by the main characters. James Mather was the Supervising Sound Editor on the final 4 films in the series (Order of The Phoenix, Half Blood Prince, Deathly Hollows Pt 1&2) and in this episode he discusses what it was like to find out he got the gig, discovering inspiration from both the books and the sounds of the previous films, and how his team designed the magic to match the circumstances and personalities of each character. After six deep-dive episodes, Professor Julian Wamble closes our exploration of Severus Snape—one of the most complex figures in the Harry Potter series. This final Prof Responds examines the ethics of Snape's teaching at Hogwarts, the tension between redemption and guilt, and what his story reveals about power, trauma, and morality in the Wizarding World. Through listener reflections, we unpack how Snape's double life as spy and professor complicates ideas of heroism, forgiveness, and accountability. From The Half-Blood Prince to The Prince's Tale, we ask: can understanding someone's pain ever excuse their harm? And if Snape never truly changes—why do we?

A National Treasure. That's what Stephen Fry is. Whether you know him as General Melchett, Jeeves, half of Fry & Laurie, the sound of Harry Potter, the genius of QI or the modern Homer retelling Greek mythology to a new generation - he has touched most of our lives in some way over the past half century. So seeing as Stephen is currently on our screens as himself in The Traitors we thought it was a timely opportunity to bring his episode of White Wine Question Time up from the cellar for another airing. We spoke in early 2025 - with Stephen in LA - about the UK import of Jeopardy, what attracted him to It's A Sin, his incredible documentaries on gay rights around the world and his advice for young creatives joining the entertainment industry. As you would expect, it was truly fascinating. Enjoy the episode and don't forget we'll be back on Thursday with a brand new episode. Cheers. Hosted on Acast. My guest today on the Online for Authors podcast is JF Monroe, author of the book The Legendary Guardians: Reunions. When reality isn't enough, you build your universe. That's precisely what J.F. Monroe did with the Legacy of the Four trilogy, creating a world where ancient powers walk among us and destiny can be rewritten by the courage of the human heart. A lifelong devotee of fantasy fiction, Monroe crafts stories that blend epic adventure with deeply personal journeys. Her writing draws inspiration from the character-driven narratives of "The Lord of the Rings" and "Harry Potter," the high stakes of "The Hunger Games," and the intricate plotting of Christopher Nolan's films. These influences combine in her work to create stories where even the most extraordinary characters feel remarkably real. At the heart of Monroe's storytelling philosophy lies a simple truth: the most powerful magic comes from human connection. Her characters—whether they're vessels for ancient powers or loyal companions with four legs—face struggles that resonate with readers long after they turn the last page. She crafts protagonists who aren't just extraordinary in their abilities but also in their capacity for growth, love, and sacrifice. When not weaving tales of legendary guardians and supernatural realms, Monroe can be found immersed in the stories that fuel her imagination—curled up with a good book and a steaming cup of coffee, embarking on movie marathons, or exploring virtual worlds through video games. These moments of escape and adventure inspire new stories and new worlds for readers to discover. In my book review, I stated The Legendary Guardians: Reunions is a fantasy. I enjoyed the storyline and would have given it more stars if it weren't for the multitude of gratuitous explicit scenes. If you don't mind spice or are willing to skip the scenes, you'll find the story has a lot of depth. We learn early on that the human race is being held together by a treaty that keeps demons, angels, and the seven deadly sins in check. The enforcers of the treaty are the four horsemen. However, the horsemen have to choose human hosts during an event called the crucible. Both Shade and Theo, teenagers in love, are chosen to participate in the crucible - and Theo is chosen as a horseman, tearing the young lovers brutally apart. Several years go by, but Shade can't move on with her life. Then, strange things begin to happen - things that suggest the treaty is no longer in effect. What will this mean for Shade? For Theo? For the world? This book is fast-paced and leaves you wanting the next installment. Content note: There are some rather detailed sex scenes. I chose to skip them and doing so did not change the book's narrative.
