Adam kicks off the show with writer and director George Gallo to discuss his 2020 film The Comeback Trail, which is currently topping the charts on Paramount+. They also dive into Gallo's all-time classic Midnight Run, the importance of studying classic cinema for aspiring filmmakers, their shared admiration for Woody Allen, and a nostalgic look back at the claymation series Davey and Goliath.Next, comedian Gary Owen joins Adam in the studio to talk about his stand-up special No S, their recent show at the Ryman with Kid Rock, and some hilarious run-ins involving David Hasselhoff. They also touch on the strange coincidence of Gary and his opener having daughters with the same name, and the idea of maintaining “plausible deniability” by avoiding other comedians' material. Gary shares stories about joining the Navy, and how he managed to serve while simultaneously hosting a TV show.Later, Adam, Gary, and Jason “Mayhem” Miller tackle some of the day's top news stories, covering everything from Catholic priests and Alcatraz to Smokey Robinson. The conversation wraps up with talk about Boba and Poke, Richard Dreyfuss' grandfather, and the film The Rock. On this episode, Bill hangs out with actor Terrence Howard for a free-wheeling chat that bounces between Hollywood and big ideas. Terrence speaks about clashing with studios over money, why Empire was both a blessing and a headache, and how an early brush with Richard Dreyfus taught him to fight for every scene. He and Bill riff on environmental junk in our food and air, and Terrence's belief that music tuned to 432 Hz could reshape everything from space travel to human longevity. Along the way they trade Hendrix trivia, swap stories about celebrity parties and canceled careers, and agree that nailing a close-up still feels like magic. This week on The Video Store Podcast, I'm recommending four offbeat cop films that have stuck with me over the years. These films can be funny, gritty, offbeat, and sometimes kind of chaotic in the best way possible. So what movies am I recommending?Running Scared (1986) – Billy Crystal and Gregory Hines as two wisecracking Chicago detectives. This one's got a great mix of comedy and action, and it leans into that mid-80s buddy cop energy without taking itself too seriously. Michael McDonald's “Sweet Freedom” is on the soundtrack, which feels like a time capsule in itself.Miami Blues (1990) – Alec Baldwin in a role that's kind of hard to pin down. He plays a violent conman who ends up impersonating a cop. It's based on a Charles Willeford novel and keeps that oddball tone where you're not always sure if you're supposed to laugh or be disturbed. Fred Ward is great in it too, playing the worn-out detective trying to catch him.Freebie and the Bean (1974) – This one's messier than most cop movies, but it's intentional. Directed by Richard Rush, who also did The Stunt Man, it's full of reckless driving, dark humor, and strange tonal shifts. Alan Arkin and James Caan play the leads, and they're either chasing criminals or arguing with each other. It kind of laid the groundwork for a lot of buddy cop films that came later.Stakeout (1987) – Richard Dreyfuss and Emilio Estevez as partners on a surveillance detail that doesn't stay professional for very long. There's a good balance of suspense and comedy, and Madeleine Stowe holds her own in her first major role. It was directed by John Badham, who also did WarGames and Short Circuit, so the pacing is solid. If you're in the mood for movies where different type of cops break rules, hunt odd suspects or drive their car on the track of an elevated train, I think you will find something here you will like. Thanks for reading Video Store Podcast! When thinking about racial equality in sports, one immediately conjures up thoughts of young Jackie Robinson stepping between the lines to become the first African-American athlete in Major League Baseball in 1947.But what about the other major sports? While we hear so much about Robinson suiting up for the Brooklyn Dodgers, less is known about the other three major sports. While Fritz Pollard is credited for being the first African-American professional football player in 1920, the NHL's Willie O'Ree did not break the color barrier until 1958 as a member of the Boston Bruins.Perhaps the most diverse league in professional sports today, the NBA, wasn't always known for being a game for all ethnicities. As a tenet of proof, Nat “Sweetwater” Clifton, who had spent many years toiling for the independent Harlem Globetrotters, did not step foot on an NBA court to become its first African-American player until signing a contract with the New York Knicks in 1950. Without Clifton, there would be no Michael Jordan or Lebron James to cheer for today.Sweetwater,Clifton's inspirational story of overcoming a lifetime of barriers and racial discrimination is the subject of a new movie streaming on the Angel Studios app.In addition to my special guest, Everett Osborne, who stars in the movie as Nat “Sweetwater” Clifton, the film also features an all-star cast including Richard Dreyfuss, Jim Caviezel, Jeremy Piven, Kevin Pollak, and Cary Elwes.I recently sat down with Osborne to discuss why Clifton should be seen as a pioneer for racial equality in sports, valuable lessons that can be learned from his life and witness, and how his life can be seen as hope for tomorrow as well as today.

Jay and Mark talk about the 2025 shark thriller Into the Deep. Directed by Christian Sesma, and starring Scout Taylor-Compton, Jon Seda, Stuart Townsend, and RIchard Dreyfus, the movie focuses on what happens when modern day pirates attempt to retrieve gold (and drugs) in shark infested water. In this episode, they also talk about scuba-diving treasure-hunting influencers, shark flashbacks, and being denied cocaine sharks again.
Today on Buzzn The Tower, Mo & Max sit down with Charlie Korsmo. You might remember him from such movies as Dick Tracy, What About Bob?, Hook, and Can't Hardly Wait. One of the few child actors who actually survived to tell his story, Charlie will give us an inside look at working with Hollywood's most elite...including but not limited to Warren Beatty, Madonna, Al Pacino, Bill Murray, Richard Dreyfuss, Frank Oz, Dustin Hoffman, Robin Williams, and Steven Spielberg!
Jaws is a 1975 American thriller film directed by Steven Spielberg, based on the 1974 novel by Peter Benchley. It stars Roy Scheider as police chief Martin Brody, who, with the help of a marine biologist (Richard Dreyfuss) and a professional shark hunter (Robert Shaw), hunts a man-eating great white shark that attacks beachgoers at a summer resort town. Murray Hamilton plays the mayor, and Lorraine Gary portrays Brody's wife. The screenplay is credited to Benchley, who wrote the first drafts, and actor-writer Carl Gottlieb, who rewrote the script during principal photography.
It's a big day for BEHIND THE LENS as we're kicking off Year 11 of BTL Radio Show AND my 43rd year as a film critic! And what better way for "moviesharkd" to start a new year and new decade than with a shark movie. And what a shark movie I have for you today – INTO THE DEEP! Directed by CHRISTIAN SESMA and written by Chad Law and Josh Ridgway, INTO THE DEEP stars Scout Taylor Compton, Callum McGowan, Stuart Townsend, Jon Seda and Richard Dreyfuss. An action-packed thriller where pirates on the hunt for sunken drugs kidnap a boat of tourists, including husband and wife Cassidy and Gregg, and force them to dive into shark-infested waters to retrieve the drugs (and anything else they might find of value). Listen as Christian and I discuss the making of INTO THE DEEP and the challenges it presented to him. Well accomplished with action films on land, diving into a movie that is 90%, if not more, both underwater and on the water proved to be a steep learning curve for Christian, but one that he and his team successfully mounted to deliver this taut nail-biter. It's an interesting interview discussing not only the making of the film and shooting in Thailand but having Richard Dreyfuss involved in the film and notably with a compelling call to action for sharks during the end credits. http://eliasentertainmentnetwork.com
In this episode Mike, Rich and Steve take on six new releases; as usual, click the link to check out the trailer for each film! We kick off with INTO THE DEEP (Signature Entertainment), the latest DTV shark movie. Christian Sesma directs, Chad Law wrote the script and Richard Dreyfus makes an appearance! In SUNRAY: FALLEN SOLDIER (Vertigo Releasing), a grizzled ex soldier gets his unit back together to go hunt the drug gang responsible for the death of this daughter. You may not have heard of this but we advise you do not miss it! RIPPY (Altitude) is an Australian creature feature featuring a mutant/zombie kangaroo! We recommend checking out the original short film its based on: WATERBORNE! We follow this with reviews for ELITE FORCE: B.R.I. (101 Film) and MR-9: DO OR DIE (Plaion Pictures). American Graffiti is a 1973 American coming-of-age comedy-drama film directed by George Lucas, produced by Francis Ford Coppola, written by Willard Huyck, Gloria Katz and Lucas, and starring Richard Dreyfuss, Ron Howard, Paul Le Mat, Harrison Ford, Charles Martin Smith, Cindy Williams, Candy Clark, Mackenzie Phillips, Bo Hopkins, and Wolfman Jack. Set in Modesto, California, in 1962, the film is a study of the cruising and early rock 'n' roll cultures popular among Lucas's age group at that time. Through a series of vignettes, it tells the story of a group of teenagers and their adventures over the course of a night.

Today is Tuesday, October 29th and Happy Birthday to Richard Dreyfus. *** 10.29.23 BIRTHDAY - RICHARD DREYFUS 'ANOTHER STAKEOUT'*** I'm Dan Radcliffe and here are the stories Cobb is talking about, presented by Credit Union of Georgia. 1. Trump rallies his troops at Georgia Tech 2. Mableton Hires Community Development Director 3. Pedestrian Struck on South Cobb Drive All of this and more is coming up on the Marietta Daily Journal Podcast, and if you are looking for community news, we encourage you to listen and subscribe! BREAK: CU of GA (06.26.24 CU OF GA FREE CHECKING_REV_FINAL) STORY 1: Trump rallies his troops at Georgia Tech Former President Donald Trump campaigned at Georgia Tech in Atlanta, emphasizing Georgia's importance for his victory over Vice President Kamala Harris in the upcoming election. He reiterated his commitment to securing the southern border and introduced new promises, including tax credits for family caregivers and tax-deductible car loan interest for U.S.-made vehicles. Trump also pledged to halve energy prices with his "drill baby drill" approach. He criticized Harris's policies and defended himself against accusations of being a fascist, asserting his energy and resilience. Trump dismissed his Georgia indictment as politically motivated and encouraged supporters to vote, while Democrats highlighted Harris's strong rally turnout in Clarkston. STORY 2: Mableton Hires Community Development Director Juliana Njoku has been appointed as Mableton's first community development director, nominated by Mayor Michael Owens and approved by the city council. She will oversee the Planning and Zoning Department, Business License Department, and Building Permit Operations as Mableton transitions to full municipal operations. With a salary of $145,000, Njoku brings over 25 years of experience, having previously led planning and development in Rockdale County. Her expertise in community development and sustainable planning is expected to drive Mableton's growth. Njoku has also worked with organizations like Atlanta Housing and the United Nations, and holds a certificate in corporate sustainability from Harvard. STORY 3: Pedestrian Struck on South Cobb Drive A man sustained life-threatening injuries after being struck by a car on South Cobb Drive near Pearson Middle School on Sunday night. The incident occurred around 8:15 p.m. as the pedestrian crossed north of Waldrep Circle. He was taken to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital for treatment. The driver, Alanis Navarro from Kennesaw, was unharmed. The Cobb County Police are investigating the incident and urge anyone with information to contact them at 770-499-3987. We have opportunities for sponsors to get great engagement on these shows. Call 770.799.6810 for more info. We'll be right back Break: DRAKE (Drake Realty (Cobb County) STORY 4: 300 Walton Students, Staff to be Tested for Tuberculosis Around 300 students and staff at Walton High School will undergo tuberculosis testing this week due to a possible exposure, as reported by Cobb & Douglas Public Health. Despite the minimal risk, mandatory Tuberculin Skin Tests will be administered on Tuesday, with follow-up checks on Thursday. Those unable to test on-site must provide results from a private healthcare provider before returning to school. A positive test indicates TB exposure, necessitating a chest x-ray to check for active disease or the need for preventive medication. The U.S. TB rate increased to 2.9 per 100,000 in 2023. STORY 5: Cobb Voters Add to Record Turnout in Final Week of Early Voting With four days of early voting left, over 218,000 Cobb County citizens have voted, contributing to record-breaking turnout in Georgia's November 2024 election. Cobb Elections Director Tate Fall noted a significant drop in wait times at voting locations. Statewide, over 40% of voters have cast ballots, surpassing previous records. Key local issues include a proposed 1% sales tax for public transit, with opinions divided. Some voters support it for improved transportation, while others oppose due to financial strain. The presidential race remains a top priority for many voters. Early voting ends Friday, and mail ballots should be sent by Tuesday. We'll be back in a moment Break: Ingles Markets (What To Add To Diets) 9 STORY 6: Nearly a Decade After Approval, Cobb Veterans Memorial Still not Standing Nearly a decade after the Cobb County Board of Commissioners approved a veterans memorial, construction has yet to start, causing frustration among local veterans. The delay stems from a new funding agreement under review since September, which would have the county cover most of the $4 million needed. Initially, the county was to fund the project, but a 2020 agreement shifted costs to the foundation. The project cost has risen from $2.5 million in 2015 to $7 million today. Only $300,000 has been spent on design, with $3.2 million reserved. The memorial will feature a 120-foot sculpture and a park, serving as a tribute and educational tool. Construction is expected to take two years once funding is secured. STORY 7: Cobb County Police Department Celebrates Baby Boom of 2024 In 2024, the Cobb County Police Department experienced a "baby boom," with over 30 officers welcoming new family members. Some of these officers met their partners within the department, growing both their careers and families together. The biomass industry is significant in Georgia, with pellets exported for power generation in Europe and Asia. Another mind bending podcast. We begin with a discussion of the article South Bay Magazine did about Jennifer "Open Mind" in their October 2024 issue. It's a well written article and a link can be found on Jennifer's website (JenniferShaffer.com) Jennifer mentioned the book "Tuesdays with Morrie" - odd for her to do so as I just read it last week (without mentioning it). It allowed me to reminisce a bit about my film "Portrait of Julian Baird" which is on the podcast "Hacking the Afterlife" page about my old professor at BU> Then Luana brought for an actor to speak to us - we couldn't guess who it was until it dawned on me (or heard from Luana) that it was an actor who played a role of a pilot in a movie, and that movie was an analogy for what we're doing here. For me, personally, that could only be the "higher self" of the great actor Richard Dreyfuss. Before anyone freaks out - Richard is alive and well, and I saw him talking about the hurricane on Facebook yesterday. But there is this unusual aspect of the research that is mentioned... that is that we exist prior to coming onstage, we plan the journey but only bring a portion of our conscious energy to the stage, and the rest is back home. There's no way to prove this is actually Richard speaking other than for Richard to do his own session with Jennifer, or a medium he knows, or using a hypnotherapist or doing guided meditation. I know that Robert Towne spoke often to Jennifer, I know that he learned new information from his dog Hira during those conversations - information only Hira could have known, that demonstrated to the skeptical Robert that the only logical reason she could know these things was if Hira still existed. And he made me promise to interview him on the flipside. I recall when he asked me - I thought it was the most unusual request I've ever had - but we did so. And if one looks through the recent podcasts, or since he departed the planet, they'll see some interesting conversations with the Oscar winning screenwriter. But it's poignant that the topic was introduced in the way it was - because the Steven Spielberg film ALWAYS was about eternal love, about a pilot who dies while fighting fires, and comes back to help his grieving girlfriend played by Holly Hunter. Jennifer is recalling the performance of "Smoke Gets in Your Eyes" by the late JD Souther (who passed just a few days ago). In the film there's a recording of him singing that love song while Richard and Holly Hunter dance. But again - if it really is Richard's higher self showing up, it's a profound insight into how things work. Jennifer mentions the conversation we had with my friend's father Jack Tracey (there's a link on the RichMartini.com page to that article that was published on Medium.com - just search for Jack Tracey and my name to read what he had to say. Jack had dementia and was in hospice care - but he clearly recalled knowing me and discussed what it was like for him - waiting to depart. In this, the topic is about how love never dies, and that our loved ones are always available - and that we can actually access the "higher self" of an individual if need be. The "higher self" is reportedly the conscious energy (soul) of an individual that is "always back home." People in the research report that we bring only a portion of our conscious energy to a lifetime - the average is between 20 and 40% - and the rest is "always home." So when we lose a loved one - as happens in the film ALWAYS, those individuals are available to us when we need them. And it was a surprise to hear it from someone who is still very much on the planet. So apologies to those who could be offended or disconcerted by this information - but no ill intent is intended here. We're reporting what people say from the flipside. As noted, Jennifer works with law enforcement agencies daily, members of the FBI, NYPD have worked with her, and I've been filming people talking to the flipside for fifteen years. Examples can be found in the documentaries FLIPSIDE, TALKING TO BILL PAXTON (where I had 3 mediums ask my old pal questions, and all three had identical answers only Bill could answer) and HACKING THE AFTERLIFE on Amazon or Gaia - an overview of this research. We also have a forum on quora "Hacking the Afterlife" where I answer questions based on the data, research or footage. Glad to know Richard is on the planet, and still working. Glad to know that Jennifer is on the planet and helping us to realize that life goes on. My two cents.

Welcome to The B-Side, from The Film Stage. Here we talk about movie stars! Not the movies that made them famous or kept them famous, but the ones that they made in between. Today is Barbra Streisand day! And what a day it is. Just one day after Babs herself announced the start to production of her approved documentary film, in which she plans to unveil the creative contents of her quite famous vault, we here at The B-Side tackle some of the legend's lesser-seen films. They include The Owl and the Pussycat, Up the Sandbox, For Pete's Sake, Nuts, and The Guilt Trip. Our guest on this long-in-the-making journey is Chris Feil, co-host of the incredible This Had Oscar Buzz podcast. We talk about the autobiography in all of its glory. We talk about Barbra's early years, Barbra's late years, her passion for design, her complicated history with movie directors, and her best albums. There's also hefty discussion about A-side Yentl, and why it's funnier and sexier than you remember. It's also a masterpiece. There's debate about how much The Guilt Trip ultimately worked, how exactly Barbra mastered playing a “regular person” by the time The Prince of Tides comes around, and how Nuts would've been better if Barbra had directed it. Additional highlights include mistaking Philip Bosco for Karl Malden, celebrating Richard Dreyfuss playing bothered to perfection, and Chris' post-TIFF takes. Sometimes you need to make concessions to get what you want. That seems to be the case with this episode of Saturday Night Live. How else does one explain Gary Tigerman as the musical guest? "You'd like Richard Dreyfuss, fresh off becoming the youngest Oscar winner ever, to host? Sure, he'd love to do the show. But, he'd like to bring his friend along." Some call it "The Paul Simon Effect." Regardless, here we are. Dreyfuss gets to play with a couple of recurring characters, tries his hand at the last "Marilyn piece" of the original era, and introduces us to Father Guido Sarducci. And, just to hedge their bets, the show has Jimmy Buffett perform one song (seated, since he has a broken leg).Lots to discuss.....Subscribe today! When actor Richard Dreyfus gazed up into the heavens during the hit film, Close Encounters of the Third Kind audiences looked with him, in rapt attention. Alien encounters cropped up like, well, crop circles. More films were released. Books detailed alleged abductions. NASA funded SETI, an effort to make contact with civilizations from other worlds. But is all this valid? Are there really alien civilizations in our vast universe? In Alien Intrusion, Gary Bates gives a thorough treatment of this fascinating subject. What is behind the numerous sightings from around the world? Does the U.S. Government have evidence of alien craft? Can we hope to make contact in our lifetime? The author comes from an unapologetic Christian perspective, but lets the facts speak for themselves. His expertise on the subject and ability to 'cover the bases' has earned widespread respect - even from many in the 'UFOlogy community' who may be uncomfortable with the startling conclusions to which he inevitable leads the reader. This was especially evident during an amazing three-hour interview with George Noory on Coast to Coast. This invaluable book will help Christians understand the issues, and be able to intelligently answer questions and engage in dialogue with a culture sure were are being watched from space. Heavily illustrated with photographs and drawings - an amazingly comprehensive 'cutting-edge' look at the UFO abduction phenomena.Follow Our Other ShowsFollow UFO WitnessesFollow Crime Watch WeeklyFollow Paranormal FearsFollow Seven: Disturbing Chronicle Stories Join our Patreon for ad-free listening and more bonus content.
