Daily Boost Podcast Show Notes Happiness: What Makes JOY Last Longer Than Happiness? October 8, 2025 | Episode 5198 Host: Scott Smith Episode Description Scott gave up chasing happiness years ago. Plot twist: He's happier for it. After almost 20 years and over 5,000 episodes, he's learned that joy sticks around longer than happiness ever did. It's less fleeting, more reliable, and way more real. In this episode, Scott shares five ideas that have been posted on his office wall for years. He doesn't even remember when he put them there. But they're still relevant because they work. These aren't fluffy positive vibes—this is the honest truth about what actually makes life feel good when you're stuck, frustrated, or wondering why success isn't bringing the satisfaction you expected. Featured Story Picture this: Scott's looking at his office wall during a recording session. There are five handwritten reminders staring back at him. They've been there for years. He has no idea when he posted them, which tells you something—these aren't trendy mantras. They're the real deal. As he's about to hit 20 years of daily podcasting, he realizes these five ideas are exactly why he's still showing up. They're also why his clients in their 40s and 50s—successful people who should be happy but aren't quite there—finally start feeling something shift. It's not about motivation. It's about getting brutally honest with yourself about what you're doing with your time and who you're doing it for. Important Points Gratitude isn't just nice—it's the foundation for getting more of what you want. If you can't appreciate what you have, why would you get anything else? Your actions tell the truth your words won't. Look at what you actually do every day, not what you say you'll do or wish you were doing. Serving others strategically changes your life faster than chasing your own happiness. When you make someone else feel great today, everything shifts for you too. Memorable Quotes "You change when you wear yourself out. And the truth is, if you are stuck and you can't figure stuff out, there's some things you have to do and you have to figure it out, but there's a big stack. I'm going to guess 50, 60% of what you think you need to do that doesn't need to be done at all." "Remember, the person you are today is not who you will be tomorrow. In fact, the decision you make today may scare you to death. But as you start moving forward tomorrow and the next week and the next month and the next year, you'll become that person who is fully capable of transforming into whatever you want to do." "This is not the toxic positivity. Come on guys. You can do it. Be happy. Let's go. Rah, rah, rah. Love that stuff. But man, if that's not working for you, we got to get real, don't we?" Scott's Three-Step Approach Pause today and write down three things you're grateful for—even if life feels hard right now. Don't tell anyone you're doing it. Just do it and watch what compounds over time. Review everyone you'll interact with today and decide in advance how you want to make them feel. Serve first. Tell someone you're proud of them and watch what happens. Pull out your calendar and block time for yourself—not for tasks, but for your dreams. Own your time or everyone else will own it for you. Do you ever pause to consider what your personal standards are and how they shape your life? Your standards, whether about how you dress, how you spend your time, or who you spend it with, guide your choices and actions. They set the tone for how you treat yourself and how others treat you, and they can be consciously chosen or subtly learned over time. In this episode, I explore how to notice, assess, and work with your personal standards. I share examples from my own life, from clothing choices to money routines, to show how even small standards reflect your self-worth and influence your daily life. You will learn how to identify when your standards are supporting you or holding you back, why the way you treat yourself is paramount, and how small adjustments can ripple out into other areas of your life. Diddy's lawyers want him to serve his time at a New Jersey federal prison that offers drug treatment. Travis Kelce was spotted in a Jacksonville movie theater seeing Taylor Swift's movie.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Diddy is asking the court to let him serve his federal sentence at Fort Dix, a correctional facility in New Jersey. It's a bold move — of all the prisons he could've picked (or been assigned), he's aiming for the one whose name is, well, hard to ignore. He's framing it as a legal decision — closer to family, better conditions, whatever the rationale given — but the very choice of “Dix” adds a layer of unmissable irony. However, the final placement decision rests not with the court but with the Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP), which considers multiple factors including security classification, institutional capacity, medical and programming needs, and disciplinary history before assigning a facility. While a judge's recommendation may be noted, it is not binding. The BOP ultimately has full discretion to determine where Combs will serve his time once his designation process is completed.to contact me:bobbycapucci@protonmail.comsource:Sean 'Diddy' Combs requests to serve sentence in low-security NJ prison FCI Fort Dix

Todd Dexheimer explores what it truly means to make an impact—not just in business, but also in your family and community. He emphasizes that creating wealth isn't only about money; it's about positioning yourself to influence and serve others in meaningful ways. Todd outlines five powerful strategies that can help you move toward a life of greater impact while also addressing the risks and fears that hold many people back. 5 Strategies to Make a Greater Impact: 1. Learn to control your fear – Fear can be paralyzing, but managing it is essential for growth. 2. Think abundantly – Shift your mindset from scarcity to abundance to see greater opportunities. 3. Take action – Success comes from doing, not just planning or waiting. 4. Stop making excuses – Excuses only delay progress; own your path forward. 5. Serve others – Focus on helping and adding value, not just how it benefits you. Todd also unpacks the risks that come with stepping into greater influence, but explains how embracing these challenges leads to stronger leadership, deeper fulfillment, and a legacy that lasts. Ep. 202 (Part 1 of 2) | In this rich, delightful, and profound conversation, integralist Father David McCallum, SJ, currently serving the Vatican as executive director of the Program for Discerning Leadership, leads us into a world filled with mission, purpose, and service, foundational to which is the practice of discernment. David describes discernment as the capacity to exercise good judgment, hold complexity, and wait for clarity. This is not only a practice for individuals, he explains, but also a communal one, providing a way for communities to discern and design together the future they want to create—through listening, dialoguing, participating. Discernment is a way of knowing and making sense of reality, David continues, and especially important now in this era of changes and choices to be made.David enlightens us as to the beautiful and far-sighted reforms proposed by the late Pope Francis, who was all for changing the balance of authority and participation in the Church; for people to have direct experience of Presence and the capacity to practice discernment; who also advocated for taking swift action on behalf of our planet, even calling out the part in the Bible that says man has dominion over the Earth. From David's description of “the journey worth making”—surrendering, opening, accepting divine grace and love—to using Otto Scharmer's U Process to help find the courage to change and simplify our lives for the benefit of all, to the Church's relationship with A.I., David provides us with an extraordinarily mind-broadening, motivating, and spiritually fulfilling perspective. On a crisp October morning, the studio of “The Valley Today” buzzed with the familiar energy of Public Safety Thursday. Host Janet Michael welcomed Captain Warren Gosnell of the Frederick County Sheriff's Office, setting the stage for a conversation that would travel from the cobblestone streets of Switzerland to the heart of community policing in Virginia. The episode opened with lighthearted banter about Captain Gosnell's recent European travels, where he sampled everything from Swiss chocolate to Italian pizza—and even tested the local McDonald's menu. The cultural differences in food, portion sizes, and even the semantics of “medium” versus “large” fries provided a humorous entry point before the conversation shifted to more serious matters. As the discussion turned to law enforcement, Captain Gosnell offered listeners a candid look at the evolving role of deputies in Frederick County. “We wear a lot of hats,” he explained, emphasizing that modern policing extends far beyond traffic stops and criminal investigations. Today's deputies are community caretakers, educators, and advocates, often stepping into roles that require empathy, creativity, and a deep understanding of the people they serve. One of the central themes of the episode was the importance of positive first impressions—especially for children. Gosnell recounted the Lunch Buddies program, where deputies join students in school cafeterias, handing out high-fives and badge stickers, and sometimes even buying ice cream for those who can't afford it. “We want a child's first encounter with law enforcement to be positive,” he said, “so if they ever need help, they know we're someone they can trust.” The conversation also highlighted the department's commitment to outreach programs like Kids Camp, the Virginia Triad (which educates seniors about scams and safety), and partnerships with organizations such as the Lions Club and the Laurel Center. These initiatives, Gosnell noted, are designed to support vulnerable populations—from children to the elderly to survivors of domestic violence—by providing resources, education, and a visible, approachable law enforcement presence. Janet and Captain Gosnell didn't shy away from the challenges facing law enforcement today, including staffing shortages and the delicate balance between community needs and available resources. Yet, the tone remained optimistic, focusing on the creative ways deputies are finding to connect with residents—whether it's “Coffee with a Cop,” “Color with a Cop,” or patrolling neighborhoods on bikes during Halloween to keep trick-or-treaters safe. As the episode drew to a close, Janet expressed her appreciation for the department's dedication to both “protect and serve,” noting that sometimes “serve looks a little different.” Captain Gosnell agreed, underscoring the importance of building trust not just with children, but with parents and the broader community. In a world where headlines often focus on the negative, this conversation was a refreshing reminder that law enforcement can—and should—be a force for good, working hand-in-hand with the community to create a safer, more connected place for everyone.

Hey friends, Chase here. I'm writing you today from the south of France, where I've been taking a little breather before a busy fall. This episode is a reflection on some of the most popular questions that came up around the launch of Never Play It Safe. In the particular lies the universal — and the questions from our community reflect challenges so many of us face. Burnout, Side Hustles & Tiny Experiments Matt asked about starting a coaching/consulting side hustle. My answer? Don't try to solve everything from the couch. Start small. Run tiny experiments. Serve people by solving the problems you've already solved for yourself. From there, Dylan jumped in with a question about making a film project with a comedian friend. We dug into what it means to treat creative collaborations like real businesses — agreements, responsibilities, financing, and the all-important element of play. Here's what we get into in the episode: Side hustles that stick: why solving your own past problems makes you a better coach or consultant Tiny experiments: the fastest way to test ideas and get real data instead of planning forever Collaboration as play: how operating agreements and clear roles keep partnerships fun instead of frustrating Burnout recovery: why rediscovering play is the antidote to grazing through work like a cow instead of hunting like a lion The big idea? The best way forward isn't overthinking — it's showing up, experimenting, and rediscovering play in the process. Until next time—stay playful, stay curious, and keep creating.
The U.S. hit the pause button today as the federal government officially shut down after Congress failed to pass funding—a move that leaves many nonessential agencies idle, furloughs hundreds of thousands of workers, and forces essential staff to work without pay while agencies brace for chaotic ripple effects. Meanwhile, in a surprising shift from fashion to hoop dreams, Kim Kardashian hinted she might own a WNBA team someday, tying her SKIMS brand vision to empowering women in sports and affirming her desire to use influence beyond entertainment. In legal headlines, prosecutors urged an 11-plus year sentence for Diddy, citing his convicted role in arranging prostitution across state lines and emphasizing the severity of his offenses even as his defense calls for leniency. Resources mentioned during this episode include: Clint's Nehemiah Bible study, developed during a prior deployment and used at WSS Jim Collins' Good to Great: Why Some Companies Make the Leap...And Others Don't https://www.amazon.com/Good-Great-Some-Companies-Others/dp/0066620996 White Sulphur Springs' Summer R&R, where Clint served as a speaker this past summer https://www.whitesulphursprings.org/summer-rnr/ If you would like to share your own story, complete the form on OCF's “Be a Guest” webpage. Is “influence” a sufficient definition? How have your own leadership roles affected your understanding of leadership? Why is it important to remember the “human connection” aspect of leadership? What role does consistency have in a leader's communications skills?
Being the leader doesn't mean you get to do whatever you want, bossing around everyone who follows you. Good leaders submit themselves fully to God. They are servants first. Then, they lead with fairness and truth for the good of those who follow them and for the Lord.
Rejoice for God wants you to be healthy! http://www.prayerdrive.com/

In this episode of Pastors' Wives Tell All, we're sitting down with our real-life friend, Haley Borin, to talk about something most ministry couples never imagine doing: serving at two different churches at the same time.Haley and her husband, Will, have been in ministry for 13 years. Today, Haley serves as a communications director at a church in Columbus, GA, while Will is an associate pastor in Phenix City, AL. Together, they're navigating what it looks like to balance dual roles in two separate ministries—while also growing in their marriage, family, and personal walks with Christ.Haley shares openly about the ups and downs of this unique journey: from the challenges of comparison and busyness to the joy of walking faithfully in God's calling. She reminds us that while ministry can stretch us in unexpected ways, it is possible to thrive when you're grounded in community, intentional with self-care, and abiding in Christ.Get all the info about our next pastors' wives retreat and apply here:https://www.pastorswivestellall.com/attendaretreatTo purchase the BOOK, head here: https://pastorswivestellall.com/bookTo shop our MERCH, head here: https://pastorswivestellall.com/shopWant to support the Pastors' Wives Tell All podcast ministry?
