In each Random Bird Thursday (RBT) episode, the goal is to highlight a bird species that probably isn't going to get featured in a full-length podcast episode. These are birds we might overlook, even though they certainly deserve some appreciation and attention. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~⚠️ SPOILER ALERT!The featured species in this episode is the White-throated Magpie-Jay (Cyanocorax formosus).Sound Citations:Isain Contreras Rodríguez, XC530762. If you've ever dealt with mom guilt and wondered why you feel like you're failing even when you're doing your best, this episode is for you. New here? Start with our Start Here playlist — five episodes that will change how you think about motherhood. JoAnn shares the day she screamed at a wall (and cowered her own kids) to name the perfectionism baked into modern motherhood. Then she busts the five biggest "good mom" myths, the ones telling you that missing the game, serving chicken nuggets again, losing your temper, taking time for yourself, or your kid's report card all mean you're failing. Spoiler: none of them do. In this episode, you'll learn: Why missing your kid's activity can actually be good for them (and what the research on over-involved parents really shows) Why your picky eater isn't a reflection of your cooking, and the biology behind food neophobia The exact repair script to use after you lose your temper, and why the repair matters more than the rupture Why taking time for yourself is an investment in your kid, not a theft from them Why your kid's school performance predicts nothing about who they'll become Resources mentioned in this episode: The Best Mom is a Happy Mom (book) Calm & Happy Parenting Cohort Thank you to our sponsors! Managing Editor Curtis Houck and Associate Editor Nick Fondacaro dove into the results of a new study from Tim Graham about Politifact's ongoing double standard when it comes to fact-checking conservatives vs. liberals. Your wine. Your Walk. Your Wind down. What's actually happening? You send the questions. We do the digging. In this episode, we're tackling three that land in our inbox on repeat—the ones that make you wonder, is it just me? (Spoiler: it's not.) First up, "Social Life or Sleep" wants to know why a glass or two of wine that used to help her wind down now hands her a 3:00 AM wake-up call and night sweats instead. We get into what's actually shifting with alcohol and hormones in midlife—no lecture, no guilt, just what's going on and what your options are. Then "Wants to be a Walker" asks whether the influencers are right: is walking 10,000 steps really better for weight loss in menopause than running or spinning, or is it just the trend of the week? We separate the science from the noise. And finally, the question so many of us are quietly asking: am I lazy, or am I genuinely exhausted? You want to do the thing, and then you sit down and don't move for hours. We talk about how to actually tell the difference—and why the answer matters more than you'd think. Pull up a chair. HBO's Lanterns has officially arrived — and somehow, it's even better than we expected. Kaya and I Ken Not podcast host Kendrick are joined by special guest Ryan Bailey of So Bad It's Good with Ryan Bailey to break down the first three episodes of Lanterns HBO and DC Studios' new take on the Green Lantern universe starring Aaron Pierre as John Stewart and Kyle Chandler as Hal Jordan. We came into Lanterns with high expectations, but the series has already exceeded them. Aaron Pierre and Kyle Chandler are fantastic as two Green Lanterns who could not be more different. John Stewart is controlled, observant and determined to prove himself, while Hal Jordan is an experienced, stubborn veteran carrying secrets of his own. That clash makes their partnership — and their performances — one of the strongest parts of the series. **SPOILERS AHEAD for Lanterns Episodes 1–3!** We break down the mystery introduced in Episode 1, as Hal is tasked with training John and the two head to Rushville, Nebraska, where a bizarre case involving dead extraterrestrials begins to reveal something much bigger. The episode also jumps through time and gives us the shocking revelation that Hal Jordan is dead in 2026, immediately turning the season into a mystery about not only what happened in Rushville, but what eventually happened to Hal. In Episode 2, “Trust Fall,” the investigation expands as John and Hal learn more about the terrifying Manhunter threat potentially hiding in Rushville. While working separately, we also begin to see just how different their approaches to being Green Lanterns really are — and why trusting each other may be as important as solving the case. Then Episode 3, “OutKast,” takes us deep into John Stewart's origin story. Through his unusual Green Lantern interview and flashbacks to his childhood and military career, we learn how John was shaped by his family, his experiences as a Black man in America and the expectations placed on him long before he ever wore the ring. We also discover that the Guardians may have much bigger plans for John — including the revelation that he isn't simply being recruited to work alongside Hal. And this is exactly why we think you don't have to be a superhero fan to love Lanterns. If you're a fan of strong acting, complicated characters, mystery and genuinely good storytelling, there is something here for you.We also get into some of the conversation happening around the show — including the sudden attempts to rewrite history around Ryan Reynolds' 2011 Green Lantern movie now that Lanterns is being praised, and why some viewers seem uncomfortable with the new series directly acknowledging the realities of being Black in America through John Stewart's story. Is Lanterns already proving that the DCU can tell superhero stories that feel completely different from traditional comic-book television? Are Aaron Pierre and Kyle Chandler the perfect John Stewart and Hal Jordan? And after Episodes 1–3… where exactly is this mystery taking us? Join us as we break it all down.#Lanterns #GreenLantern #DCU #AaronPierre #JohnStewartFOLLOW US ON INSTAGRAM HERESUBSCRIBE TO OUR PATREON HEREOH YEAH WE ON THREADS HEREWHAT? YOU WANT OUR FACEBOOK? Hey, it's Luci Dumas, and today's solo episode is a little different because I am sort of “journaling” about my experiences around the topic and looking for my own answers as I explore a topic that's been on my mind lately: motivation. Specifically, how we can find it, sustain it, and even question whether we always need it. Is it okay to just be sometimes? To live a simpler life without constantly striving for the next big thing? It's a big question, and one that I've been pondering deeply. As I thought about motivation, I kept coming back to Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs. You might remember it from a psychology class—it's that pyramid of five human needs. It got me wondering: can understanding these levels help us reignite our drive when it feels like the spark is fading? In this episode, I break down each level of Maslow's pyramid:The basics like food and shelter. Our need for safety and security. The desire for connection and belonging.Building self-esteem and feeling accomplished. And finally, the quest for self-actualization—living our best, most fulfilling life.I'll share some thoughts on how these needs might be influencing your motivation—or lack of it. Plus, we'll tackle that ever-present voice saying, “I should be doing more,” and decide if it's always true. Spoiler: sometimes it's okay to give yourself grace. Some of the ideas on how to become or stay motivated I explore are suggestions toIdentify the Blockages: Set Goals Aligned with Your Needs: Reflect and Reassess: Leverage Higher Levels for InspirationTune in for a mix of self-reflection, practical tips, and maybe even a spark to get you motivated—or at least, to help you feel okay with where you are right now.Connect with Photography Business Coach Luci Dumas: Website Email: luci@lucidumas.comInstagram FacebookYouTubeNew episodes drop every week — make sure to subscribe so you never miss an inspiring guest or a powerful solo episode designed to help you grow your photography business.

Let's just get this out of the way: your email list is not a nice-to-have. It's not something you'll "get to eventually." It is the one digital asset you actually own, and if you're not building it, you're building your business on rented land. In this episode I'm making the case (loudly) for why email needs to be a non-negotiable in your marketing, why social media alone could leave you stranded, and exactly what makes a good weekly email work. Jong and Michael are once again joined by Chalice Williams of Reel Movie Junkie, to discuss the latest episode of Lanterns. The trio share why the John Stewart focused episode was needed more than a Hal Jordan-centric one, giving John an origin story, the Guardian's ignorance, the process of making a Green Lantern, what did Hal's facial expression mean at the end of the episode, how does Sinestro play into Hal's treatment of John, how the series doesn't spoon feed info to viewers, the ability of the series to add questions but add new layers with each episode, parents doing their best, the incredible performances of Jasmine Cephas Jones & J. Alphonse Nicholson, whether showing love is a stepping stone to fear, and much more! The group also share memories and thoughts on the passing of the legendary voice actor Peter Cullen, who passed away last week at the age of 85. You've landed an initial meeting with a prospective client, and now you're wondering how to pitch them.Spoiler alert: you're not going to pitch them. Most of us walk into that first meeting having already decided how we'll work with the client. We guess at their needs, pre-build the solution, and rehearse how we'll create value for them. It feels like preparation. It's actually the fastest way to kill the opportunity before it's off the ground, because your best guess is almost always wrong, or at least wildly incomplete. In this episode, I'm breaking down the 3 simple steps to giving the best pitch of your life. You'll learn why asking a million questions comes before pitching anything, how to walk in relaxed instead of over-prepared, and how to present something that matches the client's exact need so the yes feels obvious to both of you.If you've ever felt nervous or uncertain walking into a meeting with a prospective client, this one's for you. We're taking that anxiety down, and the results speak for themselves. In this episode:Why pitching in a first meeting sabotages the deal, and what to do insteadThe 3 steps to a pitch that lands every timeHow to prep less and still show up sharperWhat to ask so your offer matches exactly what the client needs____Royalty Free Music from Tunetank.comTrack: Urban Legend by Musical Bakeryhttps://tunetank.com/track/3362-urban-legend/
Absolute potato! This week, TWIFH is delighted to bring you a special preview of Femme & Furious, a new pod-friend and great listen for fans of fandom, and especially for listeners who liked our old behind-the-scenes pop culture rundown episodes for Patreon. In this episode, our friend Julia Portela looks with a feminist lens at five (secretly six) pieces of extremely current media: Obsession, The Drama, Odyssey, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Sterling Point, and the novel Girl's Girl by Sonia Feldman. Julia is funny, smart, and definitely a fangirl. Listen to our #Gamergate episode over on her feed, too!---This week on Femme & Furious, we're breaking our own format because while it's technically a "Fast 5," we've got six properties on deck, because there was too much good pop culture to cover this month. Spoiler-free pitches up top for each one, then we go all the way in with spoilers, feminist analysis, and a few unhinged theories. What I'm covering: Obsession — the viral horror hit that outran Supergirl in theaters, the "man or the bear" discourse hiding in plain sight, and why Bear is absolutely a dog guy. The Drama — Zendaya and Robert Pattinson's wedding-week-gone-wrong dark comedy from Kristoffer Borgli, and the racial double standard baked into who gets forgiven for what. Odyssey — Christopher Nolan's mythic epic, the Emily Wilson feud, and a full breakdown of Circe, Calypso, Helen, Clytemnestra, and a theory about who Athena really is. Spider-Man: Brand New Day — Tom Holland's loneliest Peter Parker yet, the Frank Castle friendship that's carrying the movie, and a hard pass on that Little Caesars order. Sterling Point — Amazon's CW-coded YA drama, a love triangle the writing doesn't quite earn, and the most joyful period scene we've seen on TV ever. Girl's Girl by Sonia Feldman — one of my favorite books of the year, a queer coming-of-age story about girlhood, friendship, and phones as a silent second language. Did they even lie though? Today we are talking about We Were Liars by E. Lockhart. Spoilers if you are watching the tv show adaptation. Are you truly capable of holding two truths in a relationship, or does your defensiveness deny your partner the chance to be seen? In this real, raw, and deeply personal episode of Sex, Love and Everything In Between, Jacob and Meg get incredibly vulnerable about the uncomfortable reality of hitting your absolute limit in long-term partnership.Spoiler alert: true intimacy isn't about never feeling resentful or overwhelmed. It is built in the micro-moments of tension—when your nervous system is completely fried, and every bone in your body wants to blame your partner for your lack of boundaries. Meg shares a raw story about a jam-packed weekend of family celebrations that pushed her capacity to the absolute edge, and the deep internal work it took to own her choices instead of projecting her resentment onto Jacob. They also tackle the concept of "nervous system capacity," explaining why forcing a partner to relate when they are entirely unresourced isn't connection—it's a recipe for disaster. If you are tired of the right/wrong game and want to step into a new paradigm of deep empathy and honoring two truths at once, this episode will change the way you relate.Episode HighlightsThe Illusion of the Perfect Response: Why bringing defensiveness into a conflict actively denies your partner the opportunity to be seen and validated in their feelings.Honoring Two Truths: The practice of acknowledging your partner's experience, even when it completely pushes up against your own perception of yourself.Show Me Your Capacity: Understanding how your nervous system capacity directly reflects your ability to relate to your partner.Meg's Moment of Tension: Unpacking a recent, chaotic weekend filled with a five-year-old's birthday, twin nephews, and a baby shower to reveal the deeper truth of capacity and resentment. The Danger of Being Unresourced: What happens when you try to communicate and connect when you are completely depleted, and why it can feel like the walls are closing in.Unconditional Ownership: The absolute power of taking deep accountability for the commitments you made, rather than blaming your partner when you feel overwhelmed.Connect With UsFollow Meg on Instagram: @themegoneillFollow Jacob on Instagram: @thejacoboneillLoved this episode? Oh hey ToastersWelcome to another episode of Amazon History Diving! This week we have huge news: Jamelia has bought a LOT of things on Amazon. Like, a LOT.295 orders in a single year, in fact. Spoiler alert there.Behind the stationery, fabric conditioner, photography equipment, rat poison, high-vis clothing and inexplicable metal detector, though, is the story of an extraordinary few years and an extraordinarily cool woman. This week, during a brilliantly candid rummage through another Amazon history, Jamelia (WHO IS A FAN OF THE SHOW) takes us from homeschooling and the terrifying intrusion of the tabloid press, through lockdown and an ever-changing collection of new hobbies, to the breakdown of her marriage while pregnant with her fourth daughter and the beginning of a completely new life in Dubai. Drama-rama, frankly.Along the way we discover why writing her own songs was one of the best decisions Jamelia ever made, why she once dressed like a construction worker simply because she had hired a skip, why her attempt to make all her baby's clothes resulted in precisely ZERO garments, and why one of her daughters has recently required a metal detector. It's funny, surprisingly moving and gloriously chaotic. Because of COURSE it is because it's My Mate Bought a Toaster!Welcome to the many, many, MANY Amazon eras of Jamelia.Don't forget to give us a big fat follow on all the socials please:

THIS IS A PREVIEW PODCAST. NOT THE FULL REVIEW. Please check out the full podcast review on our Patreon Page by subscribing over at - https://www.patreon.com/NextBestPicture Our 2008 retrospective has officially come to an end with our final podcast review for Danny Boyle's Oscar-winning film for Best Picture, "Slumdog Millionaire," starring Dev Patel, Freida Pinto, Madhur Mittal, Anil Kapoor, and Irrfan Khan. Loosely based on the novel Q & A (2005) by Indian author Vikas Swarup, the independent Searchlight film was a sensation in 2008 as it built up momentum through the fall film festivals and then exploded in cinemas through word of mouth and all through awards season, making it, to this day, the film with the most Academy Award wins since it won 8 at the 2009 ceremony. How has the film held up, though, after all this time, nearly twenty years later? Please tune in as Josh Parham, Dan Bayer, and I talk about the film's screenplay, the performances, the craftsmanship, its awards season run, and more in our SPOILER-FILLED review. Harry Jowsey says he's ready to leave his old dating life behind, settle down and find a wife. So naturally, in Episode 3 of Let's Marry Harry, he kisses 11 women in one night.Yes. Eleven. This week, I'm breaking down the moment “Scary Harry” starts creeping back in and asking the question that matters more than how many women he kissed: Can Harry actually change his relationship patterns when temptation is sitting right in front of him? We're talking about Harry's growing connection with Dannelle, why Juliana may be activating a very different side of him, the women beginning to compete for Harry instead of evaluating whether he's actually right for them, and why chemistry and compatibility are definitely not the same thing. And then there's Harry's realization that maybe kissing his way through the house isn't exactly helping him find a wife.Self awareness is a start. But self awareness without behavioral change is just really accurate narration. Plus, I reveal my updated frontrunners, give you my Girl, Run Moment of the Week, and Harry's Husband Material Score takes another hit.The bigger question after Episode 3 is no longer whether Harry can find a woman he likes. Can Harry actually choose one and give up all the other possibilities? Spoilers for Episode 3 ahead.
This is a free preview of a paid episode. To hear more, visit smokeempodcast.substack.comNancy and Sarah welcome Ethan “crackerjack mouth” Strauss back to Smoke ‘Em for round three, this time inspired by his recent piece about a fake 49ers player who scammed scores of women out of more than a million dollars. Dark? Yes. Also hilarious, in terms of perpetrator Daejon Love's come ons, e.g., telling women his family owned part of the Gucci store “on Saks Fifth Avenue.” They also talk Ethan's recent “get that nose to the grindstone, kids” piece about making money in sports media, how to help your aging parents not get scammed, and whether anyone on the panel cares what people think of them. (Spoiler: 1.5 yes/1.5 no.)Also discussed:* Katie Herzog retools her addition to help others* “Unnecessary cleavage” * Ethan as Chuck Klosterman of the week* Daejon Love is nowhere near as hot as Napoleon* “I was a white girl on Tinder”* “Necessity is the motherf**ker of invention.”* Some love for The Gift of Fear* The iPhone as elder abuse* Cary Grant, anyone? Buy it now xxMemoirist Hepola returns after her acclaimed recovery memoir, Blackout, with a wickedly lovable account of three lost loves: a married man, a younger man, and a New Orleans cop she once believed was the man of her dreams. The title arrives when she phones the married guy for advice about dealing with his 29-year-old successor. “I'm scared I only want what I can't have,” she tells the ex. “Oh baby,” he replies, “It's the only thing there is to want.” This line feels to Hepola like a skeleton key to her existence, unlocking the surprising amount of pleasure (not to mention the very good stories) one can find on the path of an apparently hopeless quest. Hepola's self-deprecating candor and perfectly paced storytelling make this book anything but the boohoo-fest you might imagine. Possibly the perfect gift for a friend going through a breakup.About that unnecessary cleavage…

Even in his 80s, Ridley Scott refuses to slow down...except in tone. This week, Derek Miranda (@DerekMiranda85) and Karen Peterson (@KarenMPeterson) sit down to talk the melancholy, quiet post-apocalyptic THE DOG STARS. Daejon Love scammed women by pretending to be an NFL player, Eli Zaret stops by, Howard Stern trades Howard 101 for HBO, Lindsay Clancy crazies, Death of a Pastor's Wife on Netflix, Corey Feldman fibs, and no Hooters for Brian Hickerson. Eli Zaret joins the show today to declare the Detroit Tigers finished for the third time this season, the ending of Justin Verlander's career, the glorious return of College Football, USC's poor attendance, UM & MSU predictions, elderly CFB players, never-ending drama in the WNBA, Deshaun Watson's triumphant return, Green Bay Packers Josh Jacobs legal issues, Aaron Donald comes out of retirement, CTE ravaging former NFL players, Cowboys rookie Shiyazh Pete's trailblazing and more. Dolly Parton: Garth Brooks' daughter made Dolly's death all about her. CNN had to apologize after eulogizing Dolly with an incorrect photo. Dolly's charting like crazy. She once did a duet with Pee Wee Herman. Barbara Walters hated Dolly. Howard 101 is now Andy Cohen 101 on SiriusXM. Stern apparently has an HBO deal. Drew breaks down the good and bad in the world today. Zohran Mamdani mourns a murderer. Lindsay Clancy fans are out of control. Karen Read fans have a new hero. 85-year-old Donna Mills is raking in the dough on OnlyFans. Meanwhile, Honey Boo Boo's fat sister is getting other gigs due to her OnlyFans earnings. Brooklyn Beckham and Nicola Peltz are the most annoying nepo-couple ever. Brian Hickerson is not welcome at Hooters or Twin Peaks. Former NFL player, Alan Page, is a judge now. Hopefully he doesn't have CTE. Daejon Love scammed a bunch of chicks by pretending to be a wide receiver for the San Francisco 49ers. Drew and Marc recommend Untold: The Testimony of Vince Young on Netflix. Robert De Niro stars in The Whisper Man. Spoiler: It sucks. Death of the Pastor's Wife on Netflix covers the sad tale of Mica Miller. Blake Lively posted about Hayden Panettiere and Michelle Trachtenberg saying "Be Kind" and it doesn't go well. Blake Lively wanted $8M from Justin Baldoni but only got $400K. She calls it a "win". Hugh Jackman still loves her. The 'It Ends With Justice: Justin Baldoni vs Blake Lively' doc is available now. Drew's stream is excellent thanks to Flomax. Markleverse: Meghan and Harry are booed in the UK. Montecito is glad to see the couple out of their town. The poor UK has to deal with her now and they're not happy about it. Fergie has weaseled her way back in the country under the cover of Harry and Meghan. Ian Wace funded the royal losers trip back to the UK because they don't pay for anything. We're hoping the citizens of the UK rise up against them. We learn that they give nauseating hugs. Corey Feldman clips continue to leak from Corey Feldman vs The World. Jim & Them may be responsible for the famous Monster Truck attack. Alabama Barker is accused of cultural appropriation. Nice parenting, Travis. Kylie Jenner wants bigger boobs. Better Half with Stas & Vic had Kylie on their crappy podcast. Stas & Vic are hot, but suck at their job. Hot privilege is rampant. Merch is available if you want to rep the show. You'd look amazing too.
