Intro music: Samplefocus.comUsage: Standard licenseStory and Cover art by: Gail NoblesYou didn't think podcasting could have an AM radio sound, did you? Well, I suppose in this digital age, sound quality is king, but let's not forget the charm of those crackly, static-filled airwaves we grew up with. Ah, the golden days of radio! There's something about tuning in to your favorite station, praying that the signal comes in clear so you can enjoy the music without the distraction.Once a radio station ceases to exist, it's as if the very spirit of its history diappears. It's left like a whisper in the wind—only lingering in the minds of those who once tuned in. Take WHIT, for instance. There I was, a little girl in the 70s, listening to what felt like magic coming from a car radio as I enjoyed a ride. I have a notion that it was an AM station, broadcasting from somewhere that felt like a world away.I can almost hear the strains of Randy Newman's “Short People” floating through the air, mixed with the smooth vibe of Paul McCartney's “Silly Love Songs.” There was Charlie Dore crooning “Pilot of the Airwaves,” and Debbie Boone telling me, “You Light Up My Life.” How can I forget Melisa Manchester's “Don't Cry Out Loud,” or Candi Staton's “Run, Heart, Run Free”, and Yvonne Elliman's “If I Can't Have You.” Now, I don't know if I heard all these hits on WHIT specifically, but the memories are neatly tucked away with that station. And let's not overlook the charismatic Wolfman Jack—how could we forget the man who owned the airwaves? He spun records with the enthusiasm only a true radio DJ could muster.AM radio might have been fuzzier than a cat's fur, and the static could drive you nuts, but there was a certain warmth to those imperfect sounds. The music managed to shine through the noise, and that's what made it special. I didn't care about the interference; I was too busy lost in the melodies that carried my dreams.

Bob Barry's Unearthed Interviews

Pat Boone is a direct descendant of Daniel Boone. He was married to country singer Red Foley's daughter, Shirley. He hosted 115 episodes of The Pat Boone – Chevy Showroom and appeared in 15 movies. One of his four daughters is Debby Boone. She had a number one record in 1977, “You Light Up My Life.” Pat held the record for spending 220 consecutive weeks on the Billboard charts. In the 1950s Billboard magazine said that he was the only entertainer that could compete in popularity with Elvis Presley. Pat had 18 top ten records and six of those went to number one.

If you are 50+, there's a great chance that You Light Up My Life was included on a mix tape you either gave or received! Today, we are speaking with music royalty Debby Boone! She was born into the entertainment world, toured with her father, Pat Boone, and her family, nailed a GRAMMY on her first solo gig, and went on to have a successful singing career in pop, adult contemporary, contemporary Christian, and now swing. Heavy metal is on deck (just kidding). In between that, she has starred on television, in movies, and on Broadway. Her mother-in-law is Rosemary Clooney, and Debby now owns the scores from her that she has used to pay homage to a true superstar with an album, Reflections of Rosemary. She will be in Annapolis on September 21st at the Rams Head On Stage to present it all, along with tales from her life and family, in a special, very intimate show! On a personal note, I have done many of these types of interviews, and Debby was hands down the most gracious guest, by far! And, I may have wrangled a Thanksgiving dinner at the Boone household! The pressure of creating a hit song after the success of "Evergreen" and "You Light Up My Life" was felt in 1978, though the Oscar-nominated songs did not really reach that bar. But not for lack of trying. The musical Grease became the highest-grossing musical of the time, cemented Olivia Newton-John as a movie star and gave her a great love song that was new to the musical and a requirement in her contract. Host Jeff Commings shares more stories about Grease, and the competition for the Oscar that included Donna Summer's first foray into movie songs and Debby Boone's attempt to capture lightning in a bottle two years in a row.

In 1977, Jimmy Carter was taking over the White House. Art Link was governor of North Dakota. "You Light Up My Life" by Debbie Boon was at the top of the charts, and movies like "Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope," "Close Encounters of the Third Kind," and "Smokey and the Bandit" were drawing audiences to theaters. Also, Sen. Ray Holmberg also took his seat in North Dakota's legislature for the first time. Now, 46 years later, this constant in our state's politics is calling it a career. On this episode of Plain Talk, he reflects on his proudest accomplishment (promoting the UAV industry in his hometown of Grand Forks), his favorite governor (Jack Dalrymple), and the biggest challenges facing North Dakota in the future, including the growing acrimony in the NDGOP, its dominant political party, and the uncertainty of the oil, gas, and coal industries. About the rancor in the NDGOP, Holmberg said many voters are turned off by local meetings where attendees "listen to people scream 'point of order, point of order, point of order' for an hour." He said he expects incumbent Senator John Hoeven to win on the June ballot, but that the Donald Trump-aligned wing of the party is "very skilled" at organizing for the convention process, and more moderate Republicans need to get better at it. What's changed from the beginning of his almost five decades in the legislature to the end? Holmberg says more people than ever are engaged in a process that's also more open and accessible than before. When he started, he said the only way most North Dakotans could reach their lawmakers during the session, other than traveling to Bismarck, was by sending a letter or calling a toll-free telephone number and leaving them a message. Now the public can watch floor sessions and committee hearings and email or even text their lawmakers in real-time. Something that's both good and bad, Holmberg says. ABOUT DEBBY BOONE AND THE REISSUE OF SWING THIS Debby Boone's exuberant album, "Swing This," will be reissued on all digital streaming platforms on February 4 via Time Life. The collection of jazzy standards is inspired by her experiences as a child in Las Vegas while her father headlined at iconic venues like the Sands and the Sahara during the 1960's. "When my father, Pat Boone, headlined Vegas in the '60s, I was there with him - and even though I was just a kid, I couldn't get enough of the music or the glamour," says Boone. "This is my take on the joyful, exhilarating music I heard that inspired me to become a singer," and led her to work with some of the Rat Pack era's biggest icons, including Frank Sinatra and Sammy Davis. Jr. Boone delivers her renditions of classic favorites such as "Sway," "That Old Black Magic," "These Boots Are Made for Walkin'," "Everybody Loves Somebody," "Mack the Knife" and more. Exclusively on this digital release, she ends with her signature hit, "You Light Up My Life," as a bonus track. In 1977, the song was a triple crown winner, taking home an Academy Award, a Golden Globe and a GRAMMY Award and became one of the biggest songs in history, hitting #1 on the Billboard chart for 10 weeks and selling more than four million copies. In 2008, "You Light Up My Life" was ranked #7 in Billboard magazine's 50th Anniversary list of All Time Hot 100 top charting songs. Boone also won a GRAMMY Award for Best New Artist and has received seven additional GRAMMY nominations and two wins since then. A multiple genre cross-over artist, Boone has enjoyed Top 10 successes on the Pop, Country, Adult Contemporary and Contemporary Christian charts. In addition to her GRAMMY success, she was named the Top New Female Vocalist in the same year by both the Academy of Country Music and the American Music Awards and has received two Dove Awards. Alright, folks, break out your platform shoes and your dance clothes, because What the Riff is headed down to the club!  KC and the Sunshine Band was playing in all the disco dance studios in 1977, but they were particularly prominent in the Miami market, near their home town of Hialeah, Florida.  We're riffing on Part 3, unexpectedly the fourth studio album from the group (though there was a bit of a reset with their second album being self-titled and the first album having only moderate success).Harry Wayne Casey was a part time employee at TK Records in Hialeah when he formed the band, originally called KC & the Sunshine Junkanoo Band.  Casey worked with Richard Finch, engineer for TK Records, to produce the albums, including Part 3.  Additional musicians joined, including Jerome Smith on guitar, Robert Johnson on drums, and numerous others to complete the horn section.  KC and the Sunshine Band would find a virtuous cycle, as Casey and Finch would write songs inspired by what they saw at the discos, then would see their songs played at those same clubs.KC and the Sunshine Band were often featured as guests on FM pop powerhouse Y-100, and this exposure contributed to their success.  The first big hit was their second and self-titled album released in 1975, which produced the hits “Get Down Tonight” and “That's the Way (I Like It)”  Part 3 would continue their funk/disco dominance.  The band would continue to see success through their sixth studio album released in 1979.  Shortly thereafter styles would change, and the disco sound would not continue into the 1980's.  That, and a falling out between Casey and Finch would end the band for a while.KC and the Sunshine Band has seen a resurgence with the popularity of retro bands, and still tours today.  Wrap Your Arms Around MeThe fifth single from the album is a little bit of a deeper cut and features the horns prominently with a funky groove.(Shake, Shake, Shake) Shake Your BootyYou can't go wrong with a dance song that tells you to shake your booty!  Although this first single from the album was number 1 on both the Billboard Hot 100 and the Hot Soul Singles Chart, there was some controversy attached to it, with speculation that it had a stronger sexual connotation than simply dancing.I'm Your Boogie ManThis song written by Casey and Finch also hit number 1 on the Hot 100.  Finch said that the song was written about a DJ named Robert W. Walker, who was the first to play their song “Get Down Tonight.” Keep It Comin' LoveA little softer than some, this song nevertheless was still successful.  However, it only reached number 2 on the Billboard Hot 100, being kept out of the number 1 slot by Meco's “Star Wars Theme/Cantina Band,” and the big hit of the 70's, Debbie Boone's “You Light Up My Life.” ENTERTAINMENT TRACK:Main Theme from the television series “Fantasy Island”Headlined by Ricardo Montalban as Mr. Roarke and Herve Villechaize as his right hand man, Tattoo, this show would feature a stream of actors and actresses playing one-off characters chasing their dreams on the island. STAFF PICKS:Isn't She Lovely by Stevie WonderBruce leads off the staff picks with what feel is one of the most positive songs you will ever hear.  Wonder celebrates the birth of his daughter Aisha Morris on this song that opens side three of his double album, “Songs in the Key of Life.”  All instrumentation in the song is played by Wonder except for a few of the keyboard parts which were furnished by Greg Phillganes. Hard Luck Woman  by KissRob's staff pick sounds a lot like Rod Stewart for good reason — it was written by Paul Stanley for Stewart.  Though Stanley thought it sounded like “You Wear It Well,” his band Kiss decided it would be a good follow up to their successful ballad, “Beth.”  The song made it to 15 on the charts, and is a rare ballad.  Drummer Peter Criss sings lead on this song, as he did on “Beth.”Red by Sammy HagarWayne brings us the Red Rocker, Sammy Hagar, with an anthem off his second solo album.  This is also the album and song which gave him the name “the Red Rocker.”  A fan called him the Red Rocker when getting a picture, and Hagar liked the name.  The album was recorded at Abbey Road Studios.I Never Cry by Alice CooperBrian wraps up the staff picks with a mellow ballad from the not-normally mellow Alice Cooper.  This is from the album “Alice Cooper Goes to Hell,” a concept album inspired by his visit to rehab.  Many of his fans were disappointed with this softer side of Cooper, but his performances never suffered for the presence of a ballad or two.     COMEDY TRACK:In The Mood by Henhouse Five Plus TooIt appears that we need to close this podcast out before it goes to the birds!

" You Light Up My life" was the biggest song of 1977, the biggest song of the decade of the 70s and set a record  as the number one song on Billboard's Top 40 for 10 weeks in a row.  But there was some behind the scenes drama with the recording of that song.  She'll tells that story and much more.  The Boone Family, like the Jacksons and the Osmonds made music together under the leadership of their dad; Pat Boone.  That, plus a three generation legacy of music was the backdrop for Debby's career.  Jesus was, and still is a big part of her story and you'll hear it all in this episode of Amazing Greats.  Joe Micheals this weeks guest host is a long time friend.    We worked in radio together as teen agers and on into adulthood.  He is a master voice talent, radio personality, and life long Catholic.   He takes us on this Debby Boone journey in a very special one on one conversation for Amazing Greats.  Enjoy!

There is no second best when we embrace our present circumstances as part of the adventure! (Article contains affiliate links. This means that when you click a link and make a purchase, I might receive a small commission from that purchase.) Inspired Life I grew up post Vietnam War. It wasn't like growing up in the depression, but my parents are boomers who were raised by parents that grew up in the depression. And they knew how to save money. One of my mother's favorite lines was, “We can't afford that.” She was right. But I resented that phrase as a child. To me, she may have just as well said, “We're dirt poor and you're gonna have to learn to like it.” But I didn't like it. I wanted to be able to walk into JC Penney and buy a size 6X Garanimals pink and yellow outfit off the rack like the other little girls did. Then, I didn't know what the X was for, but now that I'm older and I remember my somewhat sturdy body, I suspect it was X for extra generously cut in the seat and the waist. Back then, I didn't care. As long as it said Garanimals in the tag, I wanted it. My mother sewed a lot of my clothing. Now, it's fashionable to sew one's own clothing because fabric costs as much as caviar, but in the 70's and 80's, it meant you were poor. “Mom, can I just have a store bought dress? I'd plead. “We can't afford it.” Little did I know, someday I'd look back at all of the darling things my mother made for me and remember the many hours she spent hunched over a sewing machine and appreciate all of it. But I didn't appreciate it then. I had some store-bought outfits, especially for the first day of school. I loved having a pair of jeans so new that they turned my legs blue before the end of the day. We shopped a lot at K-Mart because they had blue light specials. I think blue light specials were designed to keep housewives fit and children cranky. My brother and I would follow mom around, ducking in and out of clothing racks, listening to Debby Boone sing “You Light Up My Life” on the overhead speakers. My little sister chattered in the shopping cart and suddenly the PA system would click, go silent for a brief moment, then give out a loud whine of feedback before a man would announce, “Attention please. There is a Blue Light special on curtains in aisle six.” Mothers everywhere raced for aisle six. They didn't have to go jogging for exercise if they shopped at K-Mart. If children came with rubber arms, they might be better equipped for following maniac mothers who yanked them by the hand and made off for aisle six. Smaller children lagged behind, dragging tired little feet, slurping sticky lollipops their mothers had bought to keep them quiet. “Mommy! Wait!” They whined. Inevitably, the Blue Light Special in aisle six turned out to be the world's most hideous set of olive green and orange plaid curtains, but the sales associate waiting by the flashing blue light couldn't keep up with the women waiting in line to get their discounted curtains marked with a sticker from his hand-held sticker clicker. Well, that's not what it was called, but I was fascinated with its ability to spit out price tags one after another. Chu-chick. Chu-chick. Sandi Armstrong visits the Gateway to discuss Tom Waits, the album 'Blue Valentine" and the song on the album that she calls her own: "Christmas Card from a Hooker in Minneapolis". Sandi explains why she loves his music and how she has shared this love with her children. Howard complains about Tom's genius, griping that Tom sounds too much Louis Armstrong and that Tom's world is too mannered and caricatured. Sandi patiently listens and then corrects him. They both agree, however, that Tom Waits is a unique and talented artist: a singer-songwriter who creates small stories about small people and then links them into beautiful album-long operas about outsiders. Along the way they talk about improv, negotiating difficult house party DJ situations, and why Debbie Boone's eternally saccharine "You Light Up My Life" is important to both of them. *****Spotify Playlist of songs referenced or played on the episode: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/7LaYK68Fki7ERkzw8eKqnk?si=uiRZMIvzSkKN2JkD62MxIQ ******Check us out on Facebook: www.facebook.com/Gatewaymusicpodcast/ You can also access this podcast on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and all other platforms that peddle podcasts. Rick James The Superfreak (@ 30 yrs old): singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, hitmaker, performer, producer, impresario, and pioneer in the fusion of funk groove and rock.  A flamboyant, provocative, charismatic, brilliant, volatile, and outrageous bona fide superstar.    121.    Why is he being featured: Debut solo album, Come Get It!, with hit singles "You and I" & "Mary Jane"   122.    Short Story:  Born and raised in Buffalo, New York, he was one of eight children. His father was abusive and abandoned the family when James was eight. His mother was a former dancer who worked as a housekeeper, but also was a numbers runner. Went to Catholic school and was an altar boy, he also committed petty theft crimes, and spent some time in juvenile detention centers. He also began doing drugs. While James was always musically inclined, it was not until he performed in a talent show in high school that he seriously considered a career in music. He formed a group called the Duprees. At the same time, he joined the Naval Reserve to avoid the draft. As he and his group gained popularity he began to skip out on his naval duties. James was soon drafted, but he fled to Canada.  His uncle was Melvin Franklin of the Temptations. Franklin helped his nephew get a recording contract with Motown Records. This led to James striking a deal with the government and serving some time in prison for draft evasion. After his release, he began to record his first album, which included the hits "You & I," and his ode to marijuana, "Mary Jane." The album sold two million copies.   123.    James's second album, Bustin' Out of L Seven(1979), followed the previous album's success, eventually selling a million copies.   124.    His third album, Fire It Up (1979) and the supporting tour led to James developing a bitter rivalry with one of his opening acts, Prince. Rick accused Prince of ripping off his act.   125.    His fifth album, Street Songs (1981), also proved to be a crossover success. With the Temptations on background vocals, James released "Super Freak."    126.    With the success of "Super Freak," James began to produce for other artists. He formed an all-girl band named the Mary Jane Girls. He also performed duets with R&B singer Teena Marie and Smokey Robinson. He also produced comedian Eddie Murphy's "Party All The Time," which was a hit in the mid-1980s.   127.    James' on-stage persona was one of wild debauchery. Dressed in sequins, tight leather, high-heeled boots, and cornrows or a jheri curl, James oozed sex on stage. Offstage, he smoked marijuana and snorted cocaine. According to the Washington Post, he told the Detroit News in 2004, "The biggest mistake I made is that I tried to become my alter ego. I wanted to be Rick James, wild man, party machine, lady slayer, and the cocaine told me I could. I forgot that I was James Johnson, a nerdy kid who grew up reading Dante's Inferno on Saturday nights."   128.    James' spiral out of control came to a head when he was charged with assault in 1991. He was convicted in 1993 and served three years. He vowed to get clean and live a more sedate life. Upon his release, he married and began having serious health problems.  James was found dead on August 6, 2004; he was 56.  His death was ruled accidental, but nine drugs were found in his system. However, the official cause of death was a heart attack.   129.    Open Comments:   130.    Movie Scene   131.    The Wiz: A musical adventure fantasy film based upon characters from “The Wizard of OZ” featuring an all-black cast, the film was loosely adapted from the 1974 Broadway musical of the same name. It follows the adventures of Dorothy, a shy, twenty-four-year-old Harlem schoolteacher who finds herself magically transported to the urban fantasy Land of Oz, which resembles a dream version of New York City. Befriended by a Scarecrow, a Tin Man and a Cowardly Lion, she travels through the city to seek an audience with the mysterious Wiz, who they say is the only one powerful enough to send her home.   132.    Various reviews: "...Diana Ross, too old to play Dorothy." and ...portrayal of Dorothy was "cold, neurotic and oddly unattractive" / "...cockamamy screenplay" / “the picture finished off Diana Ross's screen career" / "The Wiz was too scary for children, and too silly for adults." / Ray Bolger, who played the Scarecrow in the 1939 The Wizard of Oz film, did not think highly of The Wiz, stating "The Wiz is overblown and will never have the universal appeal that the classic MGM musical has obtained."   133.    Sean Munger - seanmunger.com "...But, despite the fact that it was a bad movie–and it clearly is–there’s a lot of very interesting stuff about The Wiz lurking under the surface. You can make an argument that its failure ended not one but two eras in cinema: the era of the glitzy big-budget musical, and that of what is known, not entirely politically correctly (these days), as the “Blacksploitation” boom. The Wiz also began a professional association between two of its participants that had an effect on popular culture of almost inestimable magnitude: the musical pairing of Michael Jackson and songwriter/producer Quincy Jones."   134.    Open Comments:   135.    TV Scene   136.    Maxie Cleveland "Max" Robinson, Jr. (@39yrs old): American broadcast journalist and founder of the National Association of Black Journalists   137.    Robinson’s first journalism job began and ended in 1959, when he was hired to read news at a Portsmouth, Va., television station. Although the station selected him over an otherwise all-white group of applicants, it still enforced a color barrier by projecting an image of the station’s logo to conceal Robinson as he read the news. He was fired the day after he presented the news without the logo obscuring his face. In 1965 he joined WTOP-TV in Washington, D.C., as a correspondent and camera operator, but he moved quickly to nearby WRC-TV, where he won awards for coverage of race riots and a documentary on life in poor urban neighborhoods. He was hired back by WTOP as its first African American news anchor in 1969 and stayed there until 1978. Robinson moved to Chicago when ABC News chose him as one of three co-anchors for ABC’s World News Tonight. The anchor arrangement ended with the death of co-anchor Frank Reynolds in 1983. Robinson left ABC News shortly thereafter and joined Chicago’s WMAQ-TV as a news anchor (1984–87).   138.    Clarence Page offered a final tribute to his friend Max Robinson in Chicago: "Some journalists are remembered for the stories they covered. Robinson will be remembered for being the story. Like Jackie Robinson, who broke baseball's color bar in 1947, Max Robinson won't be applauded for his home runs, but for the fact that he ran the bases."   139.    Open Comments:   140.    Final Question: Biggest legacy from 1978?

In the 1970s, the most popular song of the decade was Debby Boone’s “You Light Up My Life,” which spend 10 weeks at the top of Billboard’s singles chart in 1977. While the overwhelming success of the song overshadows other aspects of Boone’s career, the eternally optimistic singer has had a varied and successful career in multiple musical genres. In a new interview with journalist Robert Neil, Boone talks about the unusual circumstances that created the opportunity to record “You Light Up My Life,” and the odd path that followed. In her typically good-natured way, Boone jokes about how ‘green’ she was at that time and how her desire to sing in a variety of styles ultimately left her with a ‘branding’ problem. She also talks about members of her famous family, and the conversation goes well beyond her legendary father Pat Boone. Debby is also related to two other iconic and hugely important musical performers:  country singer Red Foley and singer/actress Rosemary Clooney. Foley, considered one of the most important figures in the history of country music, was Boone’s maternal grandfather, and Clooney, who recorded some of the most popular pop songs of the early 1950s, was Boone’s mother-in-law. In a free-flowing, casual interview, Boone talks about her famous relations, and Neil also speaks with John Rumble, senior historian at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum, who offers some insights into Foley’s career.

I live with a super social twelve-year-old.  Our home is conveniently located within biking and walking distance to a vast majority of her friends.  Therefore, I interact with dozens, seemingly hundreds, of middle-schoolers on the reg.  That means “regularly.”  Not only do I hear, and apparently absorb (…totes…) their language, but I also hear, and often abhor, their music.  At times, I’m tempted to let something much like this slip from my mouth, “Music is horrible today.” Guess what, though? It’s not true. What I’d really be saying is, “When I was a kid…our shitty pop music was less shitty than this generation’s shitty pop music.”  But see, shitty pop music is shitty pop music is shitty pop music.  And also, all art is relative, and personal, and wrought with nostalgic, emotional overlay. I realized this as Jen played, “Hit the Quan” for me.  If you stream the podcast just below this post, you can hear both the song and the insights. For those of you who’ll just read, and to assure myself that, indeed, every decade’s shitty pop…let’s call it Poop Music, is merely soon-to-be-dated Poop, I did some research.  I use the term “research” quite loosely.  What I really did was look at the “List of Billboard Top 100 chart achievements by decade” on Wikipedia, within which I found the top songs of each decade back to 1958.  That’s right, 1958.  People, Wikipedia is absolutely wonderful for many things.  Not serious academic research, and not as a solitary source.  Don’t dismiss it out of hand just because it’s crowd-sourced.  While it only takes one dick to ruin something, the crowd generally trumps the dick.  However, also realize that the community created a 1958 – 1969 “decade” because, I dunno, the dick won there. So, for any of you who’ve claimed, in your best crotchety old-man/old-woman demeanor, “Music ain’t like it used to be,” feast your eyes on these lists.  (And hell, link through to the videos to feast your ears as well!)  Keep in mind, there are absolute gems of pop perfection in each decade…and there are heaping mounds of steaming shit as well.  All the way back to the decade that began in, uh…1958.  I won’t try to convince you which songs here are genius, which are formulaic, which are immediately forgetful, unforgettable, and which are vomit-worthy.  I only ask you to keep track of your reactions as you travel back…and be completely honest with yourself. Because a turd by any other name would smell as putrid. Here goes: 2010’s – “Songs,” and artists (by total weeks at number one) “Uptown Funk,” Mark Ronson featuring Bruno mars (14)“Blurred Lines,”* Robin Thicke featuring T.I. and Pharrell (12)*No-boobies version****If you like boobies, and who doesn’t like boobies (?!),  just google search: blurred lines unrated“See You Again,” Wiz Khalifa featuring Charlie Puth (12)“We Found Love,” Rihanna featuring Calvin Harris (10)“Happy,” Pharrell Williams (10)“Tik Tok,” Kesha (9)“Call Me Maybe,” Carly Rae Jepson (9)“One More Night,” Maroon 5 (9)“Royals,” Lorde (9)“Somebody That I Used to Know,” Gotye featuring Kimbra (8)“All About That Bass,” Meghan Trainor (8) 2000’s – “Songs,” and artists (by total weeks at number one) “We Belong Together,” Maria Carey (14)“I Gotta Feeling,” The Black Eyed Peas (14)“Lose Yourself,” Eminem (12)“Yeah!,” Usher featuring Lil John and Ludacris (12)“Boom Boom Pow,” The Black Eyed Peas (12)“Independent Woman,” Destiny’s Child (11)“Irreplaceable,” Beyonce (10)“Low,” Flo Rida featuring T-Pain (10)“Maria Maria,” Santana featuring The Product G&B  (10)“Dilemma,” Nelly featuring Kelly Rowland (10)“Foolish,” Ashanti (10)“Gold Digger,” Kanye West featuring Jamie Fox (10) 1990’s – “Songs,” and artists (by total weeks at number one) “One Sweet Day,” Mariah Carey and Boyz II Men (16)“I Will Always Love You,” Whitney Houston (14)“I’ll Make Love to You,” Boyz II Men (14)“Candle in the Wind ‘97/Something About the Way You Look Tonight,” Elton John (14)“Macarena,” Los Del Rio (14)“End of the Road,” Boyz II Men (13)“The Boy is Mine,” Brandy and Monica (13)“Smooth,” Santana featuring Rob Thomas (12)“Un-Break My Heart,” Toni Braxton (11)“I Swear,” All-4-One (11)“I’ll Be Missing You,” Puff Daddy and Faith Evans featuring 112 (11) 1980’s – “Songs,” and artists (by total weeks at number one) “Physical,” Olivia Newton-John (10)****I never realized how gay this video is, literally and in 80’s vernacular.“Bette Davis Eyes,” Kim Carnes (9)“Endless Love,” Diana Ross and Lionel Richie (9)“Every Breath You Take,” The Poice (8)“I Love Rock ‘n’ Roll,”** Joan Jett and the Blackhearts (7)**I also love Rocky Road“Ebony and Ivory,”** Paul McCartney and Stevie Wonder (7)**this“Billie Jean,” Michael Jackson (7)“Call Me,” Blondie (6)“Lady,” Kenny Rogers (6)“Centerfold,” The J. Somebody left the soapbox out, and on a hot day, someone is going to use it. In this week's sassy Solid Cat Podcast... you can't pass up free hot dogs, the Danger Diva wants to punch a fish in the face, and we have Archery Talk with Val (#archerysnob). The world descends into hell when raccoons have opposable thumbs. Why is steampunk popular? We introduce Mary Poppins' much more popular cousin, Titty Poppins. Her companion is Fat Bert, not Gay Bert. "How many puns can we squeeze into this bit?" Tom Hanks in a 'stauche is still Tom Hanks. WickedCon2014. We have some soccer sheep slaughter and giant cabbages! We dissect twerking (we're also educational). Remember, you don't have to be skanky to be sexy; be smart, don't overdo it, sexy is an attitude not an appearance. We judge the Jesus pie. Val & D-mo sing duets of You Light Up My Life and Blinded By The Light. Afternoon Delight could be a tasty sandwich. Muskrat Love? And we explain the trifecta of douchebaggery. So this week's Slumber Party of Podcasts is Titty Poppins, twerking, and us being bitches. Well that's different.
