Fitness became an escape, and after transitioning from vegetarian to fully vegan, he entered his first natural bodybuilding competition and won every category he entered. The victory challenged one of bodybuilding's most deeply ingrained assumptions: that building an elite physique requires eating meat. Then one interaction changed everything. After speaking at an event in London, a man approached Nimai in tears and told him that discovering plant-based eating through Nimai had helped his mother regain her health. Days later, Nimai walked out of a meeting, entered his boss's office, and quit his nearly $200,000-a-year engineering career to pursue his purpose full-time. In this episode, Michael Dargie speaks with Dr. Bruno Roque Cignacco, a university professor, researcher, and author based on the outskirts of London. Bruno teaches at postgraduate level, runs a consultancy in international marketing and import-export, and has spent the last few years building a business unit that helps companies become both more profitable and more human. His book, The Art of Compassionate Business, now in a second edition, is the throughline of the conversation. Bruno traces his shift from traditional marketing to compassionate business back to a Harvard Business Review article, "The Human Moment at Work." It wasn't about strategy or tactics, but about building long-lasting relationships and connecting with people on an emotional level. That idea sent him into the research, where he found a body of science-based studies on compassion, generosity, gratitude, and forgiveness in business. His conclusion is simple and firm: the building brick of any business is the human being, a meta resource that generates every other resource. The pair land quickly on a shared belief. Michael frames it as P2P, person to person, no matter whether the label says B2B or B2C. Bruno backs it with research: give customers two near-identical products and they stay loyal to the company that treats them as a person rather than a number in a database. Care for people and they reciprocate; treat them harshly and customers withdraw, employees disengage, and communities push back. Bruno's favourite part of the work is watching resistant companies change their minds. Show a business the research on autonomy, delegation, and psychologically safe workplaces, and the coin drops. He points to Patagonia as an exemplar, a company that calls the planet its shareholder, uses organic cotton, and runs childcare on site at no cost to employees. A loving, supportive workplace, he notes, tends to produce higher satisfaction, lower absenteeism, and a healthier bottom line. The conversation widens into travel, cultural sensitivity, and learning. Bruno reads several books a week, believing that many leaders are readers, and that learning keeps him humble. He dreams of two unhurried weeks in Egypt. He picks Spiderman and Batman as childhood favourites, and, half Italian and Argentinian, he settles the coffee-or-tea question firmly on the side of tea. To the show's rebels in waiting, Bruno offers one word: immersion. Fear is the biggest obstacle in any endeavour, and you are the obstacle, so get out of your own way. Start small, gather advice, gain confidence step by step, like easing into the shallow end of a pool before the deep. Music Circle loosens up classical traditions Classical music is entering a new realm, says Akiko Sasaki, artistic director of the Howland Chamber Music Circle, which kicks off its 2026-27 season — its 34th — on Sunday (Sept. 20) with a sold-out performance by the Miró Quartet. The group last played Beacon more than 20 years ago and credits the Chamber Circle's co-founder, Gwen Stevens, with boosting its career. Diversity among players and the music is inevitable, as evidenced by this year's eclectic program. Adopting an unorthodox dress code, the Catalyst Quartet plans to play three pieces by jazz saxophonist Paquito D'Rivera during the series' final concert, scheduled for May 30. Also pushing the envelope: The cellist in the brash, young Poiesis Quartet cross-dresses, the violinists sport tattoos and each member provides pronouns. The program for the Oct. 18 gig lists two works written by composers born after 2000; a selection by Lili'uokalani, the deposed queen of Hawaii (1838-1917); and Beethoven's String Quartet No. 16. "The classical world has absorbed so many influences throughout its history, and we want to surprise people with how broad it can be," says Sasaki. "It's not stuffy and stodgy anymore." Expanding further, the Chamber Circle commissioned a song by composer Shawn Okpebhdo that evokes Paul Robeson, a classically trained vocalist with ties to the Peekskill Riots in 1949 and the late folk singer Pete Seeger, who lived near Beacon. Two years in the making, the premiere is scheduled for Feb. 21 when Trio Alfiori (piano, vocals and clarinet) performs. Harpist Bridget Kibbey's Bach to Brazil adds a percussionist and violinist to round out what is perhaps the season's most ambitious program on Nov. 14; the marketing copy evokes a "sonic voyage" to Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Cuba, Germany, Puerto Rico and Venezuela. This year, the annual four-concert Piano Festival will include the premiere of a commission for Beethoven specialist Michael Stephen Brown (March 21). The chamber society is one of many underwriters, says Sasaki. Composed by Michelle Ross, the piece is inspired by the Piano Sonata No. 30, completed in 1820. The program for Grammy winner Michelle Cann (Feb. 7), known for performing historically overlooked music, along with the staples, will be announced closer to the date. Evren Ozel, 27, plans to bookend Summerland, by American composer William Grant Still, on Jan. 27 between pieces by Debussy and Schumann. "We booked Evren the day he made the final round [in 2025] of the Van Cliburn competition," which is held every four years in Fort Worth, Texas, and draws pianists from around the world, says Sasaki. "His technique is tremendous, and his playing has a maturity and intensity that draws people in." Inon Barnatan (March 7), "a regular with just about every major orchestra, is known for an intellectual, poetic approach to familiar music that makes it feel new," she says. The Chopin-heavy program will be augmented by works from Thomas Ades, John Field and Karol Szymanowski. Other small combos include the Dorian Wind Quintet (Nov. 1), a cello/piano duo (April 18) and the Maeve Trio, a violin, cello and piano ensemble, on May 2. On Sunday, the Austin-based Miró Quartet will mix things up by adopting an informal approach to fashion and onstage presence. Cellist Josh Gindele, a founding member, says the group also mines the past for obscure material, such as recording every string quartet by Argentinian composer Alberto Ginastera (1916-1983). Though serious about the music, they converse, joke around and try to make their shows feel like "you're in a bar," says Gindele. Despite performing "thousands of times" since their last appearance for the Howland Cultural Center two decades ago, he remembers the venue "being like a library [which it was, until 1976]. We were young, so any gig was good, but it sticks out because we developed a relationship with Gwen Stevens; she and other Hudson Valley promoters went...

In this English lesson, I wanted to help you learn the English phrase "that kind of money." We use this phrase in a humorous way to talk about really, really wealthy people. You might be wondering, Bob, why don't you have a Ferrari? Why don't you have a Lamborghini? Well, it's because I don't have that kind of money.That kind of money is a phrase to refer to people like Ed Sheeran or LeBron James or Wayne Gretzky or Messi. He probably has that kind of money, but normal people like us, we don't have that kind of money. I just drive normal vehicles because I'm a normal human being.The other phrase I wanted to teach you today is to be rolling in it. This is basically another way to describe really, really wealthy people. You could say, "Oh, he's rolling in it." Mick Jagger, lead singer from the Rolling Stones, he's rolling in it. He has so much money.I guess the image is he has so much money he could just lay it out on the floor and roll around in it. So to review, that kind of money is a funny way to refer to very very wealthy people who have lots of money and to be rolling in it simply means to have a lot of money.But hey, let's look at a comment from a previous video. Meta settled its youth addiction trial for $17 billion paid over ten years across 47 states — with new safety requirements for minors including time limits, night mode, and hidden like counts. Of course the company's stock went up after the settlement, which tells you everything about who won. Bill Gates published a 5,784-word AI warning blog post saying there is "no plan" for the transition to the AI era, too late the hero, Bill. In medical news, the FDA approved a new pancreatic cancer drug that nearly doubles survival time compared to chemo alone — genuinely significant given that disease kills 7 out of 8 patients within five years — though at $40,000 a month, accessibility will be an issue. On the food safety beat, an emergency recall was issued for nearly 30,000 pounds of Argentinian beef sold in Florida and Texas, as Trump simultaneously told Glenn Beck he wants to reduce regulations on beef processing plants. During that same Glenn Beck call, Trump attempted to mourn Dolly Parton and ended up mostly saying she liked him, sure. Meanwhile, The CIA director's Moscow visit turned out to involve Russian intelligence officials rather than Putin directly, with the stated purpose being to warn Russia not to attack NATO — while Iran and Russia simultaneously announced a $25 billion nuclear energy deal and a Putin-Pezeshkian summit next week, so it's going great. Jeff and his bride were in Canada's Maritimes and was attacked with Canadian kindness, poutine, real beef and not diseased Argentinian horse meat, the best lobsters and oysters in the hemisphere, and the inability of artisans and merchants to ship their goods to their traditional U.S. partners – or even for me to ship purchases home, due to the economically illiterate tariffs and self-destructive imbecilic trade war with our closest cousins. Back here in the U.S.A.: Trump's war could really cost him, eh? Senate and gubernatorial races in Michigan, Wisconsin, Maine and Ohio are already being impacted by the economic turmoil spinning off Trump's latest stupidity. Too bad for John James and Mike Rogers, Porky POTUS spent much of the week focused on his issue Number One: naming things after him, including: Another effort to put his name on the Kennedy Center despite a court order, threatening to tear down the Center if he doesn't get his way; Stripping the name of a World War II hero off a new aircraft carrier, reportedly instead renaming it for him, while ordering the Navy to spend billions on redesigns of carriers so they looked like World War II carriers and revert to outdated steam-powered launch systems; Inscribing a plaque on his under-construction helipad with his signature, clearly delighted that the new granite slab outside the White House will be a great place for cocktail parties. Reportedly deciding to use his $400-million political bankroll to run an advertising blitz on the Greatness of Trump … instead of directly supporting Republican candidates. But Michigan Republicans aren't joining the Trump Name Game. At their weekend state nominating convention, none of their candidates for state office mentioned Trump even once. Their focus was putting lipstick on the pig that is the GOP record on the economy. I wish them all smashing luck as they contort themselves into cartoonish pretzels in their futile efforts to avoid being fatally tethered to Donald Trump's venereal disease-level job approval. State Republicans are also reeling from what appears to be a growing Blue Wave. The non-partisan Cook Political Report has moved two Michigan congressional races away from the GOP: in the Macomb County based 10th district, from Leans Republican to Tossup … and in the Saginaw Bay region 8th from “Lean Democratic” to “Likely Democratic.” State Democrats are sharpening their verbal axes as we approach the traditional Labor Day launch of the campaign. The Canada Trade War drew immediate fire from Lt. Governor nominee Winnie Brinks, and 10th district congressional candidate Christina Hines. Senator Elissa Slotkin, in a speech to UAW leadership, said a longer term threat posed by the Trade War is Canada's growing partnership with China on sales of EV's … and Trump then allowing those cars across the Gordie Howe Bridge. Abdul El-Sayed is highlighting the obvious challenge facing Mike Rogers in the Senate campaign: does he risk angering Donald Trump breaking with him on issues beginning with the Trump-created Iran war, and the emerging hot-button issue of Data Centers. But the possibly most ominous development of the week came from the very Trumpy Supreme Court, which has started to open the door to a federal takeover of elections. Without ruling on the merits of Trump's Post Office deciding who gets to vote, Chief Justice John Roberts gave Trump permission to begin implementing his executive order. It was all part of a bizarre week that can probably be summed up in two words: Lake America, Trump's latest Sharpie-labeled change to world maps. What sounds like the plot of a crime thriller was Sharon Armstrong's real life. An online romance drew her into an elaborate web of lies involving overseas contracts, invented emergencies, and several people playing carefully planned roles. By the time she arrived at an airport in Argentina with five kilograms of cocaine hidden inside her suitcase, she still believed she was carrying business documents for the man she loved. Sharon was arrested and spent more than two years in an Argentinian prison before returning home without a conviction. During that time, she had to confront the truth of what had happened and find a way to forgive herself. She later wrote about the experience in her book, *Organized Deception*. Today, she is an author and international scam awareness advocate who works to educate the public, support survivors, and challenge the shame that often keeps victims silent. In this episode, we talk about how the criminals built trust so quickly, why warnings from loved ones can be difficult to hear, and how organized scam networks use kindness and personal values against the people they target. Sharon also explains why she no longer says she "fell for" a romance scam. She was deliberately targeted by sophisticated criminals, and she believes the attention belongs on those who planned the deception rather than on the person they harmed. The Torneo Clausura 2026 is well underway and this week Sam, English Dan, Chris and Andrés meet to ask what on earth is going on at River Plate, who've lost five (competitive) games in a row for the first time since 1911(!) thanks in part to a sporting director who's also being blamed for the current mess at Olympique Marseille. They're not the only team in the top flight, though, so we also round up the main takeaways from the first three rounds of action.

What's more British than the British royal family? More Spanish than the Spanish Monarchs? More Norse than the King of Norway? Well, a lot of things actually. In fact, nearly all of the 10 remaining hereditary monarchs of Europe have more German DNA than they do local. For centuries, royals almost exclusively married other, foreign royals. They rarely mixed their blue blood with people native to the Kingdoms they ruled over. What's more, when dynasties died out (often from excessive inbreeding) foreign royal houses put their own seconds sons on the throne, establishing new, entirely alien dynasties. Modern royal families try to brand themselves as throughly native and in touch with the common people. And if they ever spit into a test tube and sent it off for a DNA test, they would probably never publish the results. But, by looking back at their family trees, we can get a pretty good idea of their heritage. So let's find out just when and how the Swedish got so French, the Dutch got Argentinian, and everyone got so German!
