Welcome true believers to X-Men Horoscopes where each week our host Lodro Rinzler is in conversation with a special guest to discuss the X-Men issue that aligns with a significant month and year from their life and what that issue reveals about their future. Your favorite graphic novelist you don't know yet, Alex Dvorak, joins our host Lodro Rinzler to discuss ACTS OF VENGEANCE, which is basically the comic equivalent of slamming action figures together. In this case, Wolverine fights the Mandarin...and Betsy Braddock in an ambiguously Asian new body! Huh? But wait! It's also the X-Men Meditation Issue. As if that's not enough going on, additional topics include: how does Psylocke even get that strappy banded outfit on? Wolverine sometimes just says things that he thinks sounds cool Jubilee dresses exactly like Batman's sidekick Robin sometimes your powers just sound like "Zappa dappa doo!" Banshee's arch enemy is the white noise machine in a kid's nursery What does any of this mean for Alex's future? Tune in to find out! Alex Dvorak is a multicultural screenwriter and journalist published in The Washington Post, HuffPost, POPSUGAR, and many more. She is the author of a Mad Cave Studios YA graphic novel set to be published in 2025. Alex's narrative short film BAD SURVIVOR, inspired by her first 24 hours in cancer remission, premiered at the 2024 Big Apple Film Festival in NYC. As the daughter of immigrants from clashing cultures, a teen cancer survivor, and a former runway model, Alex writes stories of teen rebellion based on real-life experiences with authenticity, dark humor, and heart. She can be found on Instagram at @itsalexdvorak. More of Lodro Rinzler's work can be found here and here and you can follow the podcast on Instagram at xmenpanelsdaily where we post X-Men comic panels...daily. (Moderator, Jonathan Lipp, Big Apple Film Festival Founder/Director) In this session, visual effects coordinator and supervisor Matthew Gratzner provides strategies on how to give your film the highest quality cinematic look, and some predictions on how the future of visual effects in film will look in the coming years. MATTHEW GRATZNER is seasoned film industry professional, who has flourished as an art director, visual effects supervisor and co-founder of the Academy Award winning, New Deal Studios, Inc. (http://shannon-gans-i8ui.squarespace.com). Between VFX projects Matthew directed several commercials and short films. After a number of successful years, Matthew decided to leave VFX to focus solely on writing and directing. Then the opportunity with the film, The Aviator, started a 10 year relationship with Martin Scorsese as a key member of Rob Legato's VFX team as Visual Effects/Miniature Effects Supervisor as well as Visual Effects Art Director. Matthew was integral to creating scenes such as the horrific plane crash in The Aviator, the many subtle effects shots in The Departed, realizing the eerie environments for Shutter Island, and creating the epic train crash in Hugo. He received a BAFTA nomination for The Aviator for best VFX, and Emmy nomination for best VFX on the Tom Hanks/HBO miniseries From the Earth to the Moon. Matthew also received a Clio and a Cannes Golden Lion for commercials as well as multiple VES Awards. Matthew is a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. While Matthew never attended film school, he felt being on set with Martin Scorsese was a master class in filmmaking— which encouraged his passion to create content— pioneering cinematic virtual reality and co-writing and directing two independent feature films currently in post. Matthew loves and feels most comfortable working with actors-- and thinks that while visual effects, art direction and stunt work are all extremely important visually—without the emotion of compelling characters and a strong story, a project's success is diminished greatly. Matthew also has several projects in development with his latest company, Proof of Concept Entertainment, Inc. (www.proofofconceptent.com) Currently Matthew is in the process of releasing Mutiny!, his latest short film—a swashbuckling, comedy-action-adventure set in the 17th Century. (www.mutinyshortfilm.com). Mutiny is an official selection of the 2021 Big Apple Film Festival. For more information on Matthew visit www.matthewgratzner.com.

For the first 13 years of her career she let fear take the leading role. Rather than trusting her intuition she found herself following whatever others thought she should be doing. What is your biggest failure in life? Did it stop or help your art? Actor/Writer/Director Laura Adamo is joining the conversation on Cue to Cue this week to share how the failures and pain she experienced in the past allowed her to hone her creative process. She reminds us that we can fail spectacularly because at some point in our lives, it will be a part of the key in unlocking the next step of our journey into something great. What do you do when you’re forced to face the unknown? When was the last time you learned something new and stepped outside of your comfort zone? Take a leap of faith! Laura reiterates that creativity requires us to lean into vulnerability instead of running away from it. Have the courage to have an open heart and move authentically through the world. Be the best version of yourself and don’t let your past define your future. In this episode: How taking the director’s hat became the greatest gift she gave her actor self. The importance of having an open heart in your creative process. How to discern which criticism you should listen to. The dynamics of balancing the business and creative side in directing a movie. How a series of painful events inspired her to create “The Wishing Tree” movie. Share Laura's Epsiode! >>> www.thisischelseajohnson.com/185 A little about Laura: LAURA ADAMO, is a Toronto based actor who is a graduate of the Neighborhood Playhouse School of Theatre in New York. For the first act of this episode, 11 year old cellist Maya Oddin joins in to talk about her teacher - Anne Ridlington - and a performance of Ysaÿe that Anne recently made. For the second act, we're joined by composer, director, and accordionist Michael Ward-Bergeman who has invented a radical new kind of instrument - and you're going to need to hear it to believe it. Michael Ward-Bergeman has also recently released a documentary - The Saints and Sinners of Jackson Square - which profiles a group of street musicians in New Orleans. The film is playing at the Big Apple Film Festival on Nov. 15 2020. Orchestra Next will be releasing an extended interview with Michael about this film later on this podcast but for now, we strongly encourage you to check out this incredible film. You can find the trailer for it and outtakes at Michael's website: mediamjwb.blogspot.com The title of this episode is a quote from Malcolm Morris - a New Orleans bass drum player who is featured in The Saints and Sinners of Jackson Square. Orchestra Next wants to thank all of our musicians for hanging in there during this trying time. And we also wish to thank our supporters who have made this project possible. If you’d like to help support this project, please visit orchestranext.com.
We’re gonna take a detour from our regular programming to offer this extended interview with composer, director, and accordionist Michael Ward-Bergeman. Filmmaker Astrid Ovalles talks with Emmy Winner Charlotte Robinson host of OUTTAKE VOICES™ about her new film “Road of Bygones” that’s set to be released on Amazon March 15th. “Road of Bygones” is written and directed by Ovalles and stars Sarah J. Lucey, Oriana Oppice and Astrid herself. The dark comedy tells the story of three women who embark on a road trip to retrieve the ashes of a parent hoping to find overdue closure. However at their destination the women are confronted with a series of comedic and emotional events that threaten to destroy all harmony between them. The film also explores the theme of D&S (Dominance and Submission) that's usually displayed with misconceptions and ignorance. Actually Ovalles masterfully goes where no other filmmakers have gone before effectively breaking the stigma associated with lesbian D&S relationships. Above all "Road of Bygones" is an intimate story about humanity that leaves audiences thinking about the film long after they've viewed it. The Amazon announcement comes on the heels of the success that “Road of Bygones” enjoyed traveling the film festival circuit with notable stops at the Big Apple Film Festival and New York Cinematography Awards (NYCA) where it won “Best LGBT Film.” We talked to Astrid about her inspiration for creating “Road of Bygones”, what she hopes to accomplish with her work and her spin on our LGBTQ issues. Astrid Ovalles is a Venezuelan-born actor, writer and director who debuted her talent in the award-winning and globally acclaimed short film "Camp Belvidere." As the driving force behind Recluse Films her own independent film company her goal is to use heart and innovation in the film medium to share powerful human stories that benefit our LGBTQ community and minorities by bringing them to the forefront of her work. Astrid continues to collaborate with filmmakers in front of the camera as an actor and behind it as a writer, director, editor and colorist. Beyond shaking things up in her industry Ovalles is changing the game as well as challenging the status quo for not just women but lesbians and Latinas. Having broken many stereotypes Astrid definitely epitomizes the definition of doing it on your own terms and succeeding at it by bringing a unique passion to her craft. As a talented actress, writer and filmmaker Astrid is a new breed of filmmaker to keep an eye on. Astrid Ovalles lives in New York City with her wife. For More Info: roadofbygones.com LISTEN: 500+ LGBTQ Chats @OUTTAKE VOICES

The multitalented Julie Sharbutt is an excellent and articulate actor, improviser, writer and producer. She and I discuss relationships, friendships, comedy, dramedy, gender politics, the necessary selfishness of artists, ego, inequality and unearned orgasms! We also discuss the excellent movie she wrote and directed, Moved, and so much else! I forgot how much I loved this episode till I went back and listened to it. Wowza!
