This is The Digital Story Podcast #961, August 20, 2024. Today's theme is "Zero Computational Photography with Process Zero." I'm Derrick Story. Opening Monologue Are you ready to see what kind of pictures your iPhone captures with absolutely no computational photography applied? You might wonder how that could even happen. The latest version of Halide (2.15) includes a feature called Process Zero. And when it's enabled, you record a RAW file with no AI or computational photography adjustments. Basically, it's like shooting slide film with an analog camera. And the results just might surprise you. I explain how it works, plus more, on today's TDS Photography Podcast. I hope you enjoy the show.

Jeff Carlson has a new column at PopPhoto where he is covering computational photography. What is there to know beyond the iPhone? Quite a bit, actually. Jeff explains why computational photography is a real thing for not just taking but also editing photos as well as changing photo workflows. He shares some examples of each and explains why this enhances, not detracts from or replaces, your existing photography skills. (Part 1) This edition of MacVoices is supported by Kolide. Today's guest is Gil Perry, Co-Founder and CEO of D-ID the technology company behind the viral MyHeritage clips where old photos have been brought to life.A former Commander in the Special Forces unit of the Israeli Defence Forces, Gil and his army friends and co-founders started D-ID to work on protecting images and videos from facial recognition software but not long after and when Covid came, they pivoted their startup to focus on creating a suite of what they call Creative Reality tools that use their deep learning algorithms, image processing and neural networks to create high quality videos from still images. If you haven't tried it yet, head to the MyHeritage site and give it a go - I can only describe the experience as magical.I have long-been interested in how we can preserve the memory of our loved ones so Gil and I talk about this, as well as holograms, deepfakes, how and why the company pivoted, what lesson Gil took from the special forces to entrepreneurship and, of course, D-ID's incredible work – from bringing history to life, right through to the metaverse.Enjoy!Gil on LinkedIn / D-ID website / Twitter Danielle Twitter / Instagram / Newsletter-----Mentioned in the episode:MyHeritage Deep NostalgiaHologram of Robert Kardashian (gift from Kanye West to Kim Kardashian)Glimpse Group

You shot a lovely portrait and realized later that the background could benefit from some artistic blur. It used to be that if you didn't get it in camera, you were stuck. But now it's possible to recreate that blur using AI features in software later. Or, if you captured the shot using the iPhone's Portrait Mode, you can edit the effect whenever you want. Is the software option really worth doing? Tamiko Thiel, Multimedia artist and Jon Uriarte, Digital Curator at The Photographers' Gallery for Lend Me Your Face – Go Fake Yourself! a participatory deep fake artificial intelligence project on view at TPG until 17 March 2021. This project uses deep fake artificial intelligence technology to animate single photos of faces with facial expressions and body language "borrowed" from driving videos of public figures. With deep fake AI technology, the face - the most intimate and yet public part of the self - and the emotions it expresses can more and more easily be manipulated and placed in contexts out of the control of the "lenders" of the faces themselves. What have we learned? How the project Lend Me Your Face – Go Deepfake Yourself! is a performative participatory project. We can reflect upon the limitation of the machine with its imperfection and glitch. The models were chosen because they were specific to a particular political moment. The Photographers Gallery has a wonderful gold mine of information about the evolution of imagery and Data sets. Check the links below. Today, artists and photographers have to learn both: lens work and software skills. And, Computational Photography is rapidly evolving. I have been asked a lot recently about what I think about some of the new tools digital photographers have at their disposal. Many programs now offer "AI or machine learning" to help edit photographs. Now with the click of a few buttons, you can replace skies, change expressions, or quickly composite images together. In today's podcast, we talk a little about a few issues that arise when you think about the nature of computational photography and the language and words we might consider when talking about photography moving forward.

This week the team discuss: Apple's new Airpods Pro and Amazon's Echo Buds. How do they compare and what's the future for smart assistant-enabled headphones? Hackers that have discovered a way to make untraceable calls across mobile networks and the police response. Phone cameras vs 'real cameras'. Have we reached the stage now where only the pros are better off with an SLR? Does the advent of computational photography on phones make them superior? Let the team know your thoughts on these subjects or anything you'd like to hear covered in future via the website (https://www.361podcast.com/) or Twitter (https://twitter.com/361podcast).
Aus Falks Mac steigt dunkler Rauch auf und wir sprechen über die Leica SL2, Smartphones und Computational Photography.
Welcome to Episode #1 of my new podcast! Especially for my friends, this podcast in an expression of my passion for photography, technology, gadgets, Apple products, and more! There's something here for everyone. The first episode is about computational photography—more interesting than it might sound. Listen and subscribe!
Oh man, I have been SO excited for this episode! For the past year or two, I’ve been keeping very close tabs on how certain tech companies are leveraging computational photography with their products. Companies like Apple, Google, and Huawei have invested tons into this software technology, all in the name of helping their customers take better photos with their mobile devices. But, computational photography isn’t limited to mobile phone manufacturers. Software companies like Skylum and ON1 have been dipping their toes in the artificial intelligence (AI) pond. But, few software companies who support creatives have invested as much in this area as Adobe. And that’s why I’m so excited to welcome my friend and Adobe Lightroom Product Manager, Josh Haftel to the show. I’ve known Josh for almost a decade and—fun fact—he is the singular person responsible for me being hired by Google. He’s a wonderful guy with both deep and wide knowledge of the photo industry. As I mention in the show, Josh truly is a photographer’s photographer and I had an absolute blast discussing the role of computational photography in the creative process and its impact on photographers. Give the show a listen and let me know your thoughts on this wildly interesting topic in the comments or on social media. Show Notes Follow Josh on Instagram and Twitter Learn more about Adobe Lightroom [via Adobe] Computational Photography Is Ready For Its Close-up [via PCMag.com] Adobe Lightroom leverages computational photography for amazing long exposure results on the iPhone [via Fstoppers] --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/nonamephotoshow/message

Chris and Ade explore the the ways new technology can help you make fantastic photos.
We dive into the emerging arena of “computational photography” -- where cameras capture increasingly complex data that computers process to enable imagery never before possible. One of the most mind blowing areas of “Computational Photography” is “Light Field” imagery, which redefines much of what we took for granted about photo capture. With “Light Field” captures, we can change focus, depth of field and aperture at any point after the image has been taken. It also enables some degree of camera angle positioning to be adjusted in post-production. Or when viewing in frameless Augmented or Virtual Reality, it enables the viewer to move side-to-side and see the angel-of-view in the environment adjust real-time with your body positioning. The leader in “Light Field” photography is a company called Lytro. Our guest today is Steven Swanson, the Executive Director of Content Partnerships for Lytro. Steven is active in many of the most bold, innovative media-tech projects today. Prior to Joining Lytro, Steven was a VFX Supervising Producer with Luma Pictures, one of the most prominent Hollywood VFX houses. We explore the current state and potential of “Light Field” photography, dive into Lytro’s next-generation product the “Volume Light Tracer”, and get Steven’s insight into the evolution of immersive media.
Chris Marquardt and Adrian Stock talk about the future of photography.
Welcome to episode 76 of Make Better Photos and Videos. In this episode I dive into our newest buzzword, computational photography. What is it and what does it mean to your work?
We asked one of Qualcomm Technologies' camera gurus, William Mantzel, to join us for a conversation about cool mobile camera technology. In this episode we talk about who's driving the dual camera bandwagon, how to sound like a camera tech pro, and how we’re pushing the frontiers of both outdoor and lowlight photography.
