Was sind eure Geheimtipps? Lasst es uns gerne wissen! Guten tag! This week we take a trip to Germany with two wildly different films. First, is a pleasant trip to the country with Der Bunker, a film about a man that goes to stay with a family that lives in a bunker, and the weirdness that ensues. Then we take to a detour to a small town set in some old ways and a trans samurai that seeks to liberate a certain individual with Der Samurai.
Welcome back to Make Me Shudder! We finish off Argentoween with his most prolific film Suspiria, followed by the second film in his 'Three Mothers' trilogy, Inferno. Listen in to see how these films stacked up against each other, and find out who we're going to celebrate next year for Halloween. We resume our normal routine of Shudder's library next week with Der Bunker and Der Samurai, two German films that are sure to be interesting to talk about. Enjoy!
Grab your katana and white dress because we're heading over to a small German town to discuss the internal struggle of the queer cop at the center of Till Kleinert's surreal film Der Samurai. Joining us for the discussion is Transploitation co-creator Ten Backe!Come along for the ride as we wade through the film's dream logic to interpret what this film is trying to say. We've got a look at small town queer life, coming out via baptism, questions surrounding gender identity and one very erect penis.Plus, attacking queer culture through pink flamingos, decapitations galore, a town literally covered in blood, more Freeway plugs and our beefs with James Woods and Isaiah Washington.Questions?

A strong female filmmaker in the monster genre and one of the founding parents of horror comedy. HELLO !!! She should inspire a whole new generation of killer filmmakers out there!!! Look her up. She sometimes goes on tour with Blood Diner screenings too. She said she prefers to make monster movies over just straight forward comedies. Before we go deep into Blood Diner, we’re going to talk about Bill and Ted 3, Evil Dead movie happenings, and a little movie called Split Second.Bill and Ted Face The Music mini-discussion. Bill and Ted vs. Wayne’s World?Bruce Campbell is touring drive-ins with Evil Dead screenings. Dave finally kinda watches Split Second. Screenwriter Gary Scott Thompson wrote the original script titled Pentagram in 1988. It included a ritualistic serial killer who has committed five murders every five years for the last quarter of the century, and always leaves pentagram symbols after each death. One of the reasons why changes were demanded is because the script was considered to be too similar to another horror thriller which came out around the same time, The First Power (1990). Creatures designed by Steve Norrington, who did Death Machine and Blade, and did effects on Aliens and Alien 3. It's week 2 of Summer Slash 2020, but we have to stop and take a minute to discuss a movie tangent. A Made For TV situation. We have to discuss all the Knight Rider sequels and rebooting attempts. Like Knight Rider 2000, Knight Rider 2010, Knight Rider: 2008, and Team Knight Rider. Yes, Knight Rider: 2008 comes after Knight Rider 2010, that's not a typo. There’s a German Slasher film out there with a 100% Rotten Tomato rating, it was the debut feature of a filmmaker named Till Kleinert that he crowdfunded and he also used non-actors as the lead and the killer - Michel Diercks and Pit Bukowski did I mention it has a 100% rating on the tomato meter. A katana wielding maniac in a dress emerges from the woods and attacks a small village with 2 police officers, the hero of our story being the new kid with a badge.I know police officers are not people’s favorite heroes right now, but this dude is just some innocent kid himself who seems to have taken the only job in this one job town he could get. He spends most of his time feeding wild animals and he doesn’t even carry a gun. This dude literally tries to reason the killer out of his killing spree with kind words and suggestions. One Word First impressions of the Der Samurai? Disturbing.Last week? Horror loves it some weirdos – and so do we! Be honest, Carrie would not have done nearly so much damage had she fit in somehow, right? Oh, Carrie – how we love you and your nutcase of a mom. And the White women are hardly alone. Freaks and misfits litter the horror cinema landscape – and thank God for it! Whether Edwin Neal – the hitchhiker and harbinger of what’s to come in West Texas – or an unseemly Pit Bukowski, white gown and katana bedecked in Der Samurai. You want to get really weird? How about anybody from Calvaire? Possession’s swinging Heinrich? Let’s not forget our favorite prom non-goer, The Loved Ones’ Lola (Robin McLeavy). And these aren’t even the best. Who are the five best weirdos in horror cinema?

Director's Club as you know it is back, kind of. As indicated in the recently posted Pop Culture Club debut, I mentioned that every now and again, directors will still be focused on from time to time. I decided to put a couple of sequel episodes on the schedule for the summer to make it easier on myself, and to follow through on a couple of promises I made. Friend to the show Bill Ackerman and I are both huge fans of David Cronenberg, and as much as I enjoyed our first episode on DC, I knew a sequel / reboot was due so we could discuss some more of his recent films and a couple others we skipped over the first time. It's more of a general discussion but there is definitely a heated debate surrounding CRASH and a newfound respect for both SPIDER and A DANGEROUS METHOD. Also, Bill talks about DER SAMURAI while I review Rodney Ascher's documentary THE NIGHTMARE. 00:00 - 27:17 - Introduction / Cronenberg27:18 - 27:35 - What We Watched Song27:36 - 42:41 - What We Watched42:42 - 43:01 - Director Song43:02 - 02:07:52 - Cronenberg Discussion02:07:53 - 02:18:48 - Top 5 Cronenberg Films / OutroThanks everyone so much for listening! The next episode will be another bonus episode recorded with Patrick, whom I love. Him and I will be revisiting Paul Thomas Anderson's THE MASTER to see if we warm up to it more, as well as talk about the genius of John Patrick Shanley's JOE VS. THE VOLCANO. There's plenty of good stuff to come, so stay subscribed. And as always, do send me an email: directorsclubpodcast@gmail.comDid you visit the new website yet:http://directorsclubpodcast.comVisit Bill's blog damn it:http://auteuristtrap.blogspot.com

Vin Diesel said FURIOUS 7 should win Best Picture if the Oscars want to be relevant. Hey, NOTHING could make the Oscars relevant, not even THIS KICK-ASS PIECE OF AWESOME MOVIE. Holy crap, is it amazing. It’s not FAST & FURIOUS 6, but it’s close. Also on the show, Dave shows off his love for the German accent when Evan talks about WOMAN IN GOLD, and Kris regales us with stories of DER SAMURAI and Passover cake. Plus, there’s a Steve Martin moment or two at the top.
