Meaning and the Intimate Moment with guest Russell Delman on The Living Process, episode 33 with host Greg Madison. In this episode Russell and I share another deep connection discussing the meaning of 'meaning' and what is the path of a meaningful life? In exploring this topic we touch on those moments in life where living itself feels like 'enough' and the intimate feeling of such moments. We also talk about the role of the physical body in these profound experiences, touching on Focusing, Zen practice and everyday living. Russell navigates the edge between Guided Inquiry, Feldenkrais, Zen meditation, and their integration into the practice of The Embodied Life, a learning programme offered by Russell and his wife Linda, influenced by over 50 years of immersion in these practices and his direct relationship with Feldenkrais, Gendlin, and principle teachers in the Zen tradition. Russell DelmanRussell Delman is a well-known and valued teacher within the disciplines of Zen Buddhist meditation and Feldenkrais. He is also known in the Focusing world as a unique embodiment practitioner who integrates all three of these practices in his international training of The Embodied Life. He and Gene Gendlin also shared a warm friendship and Focusing partnership for many years. Russell's exploration of the crucial importance of awareness in body/mind perspectives and psychology began in 1970. His subsequent journey included gestalt, yoga, the first Feldenkrais trainings, work at The Esalen Institute, Focusing, and many mind-body experiences and teachings. Awakening to Embodied Living on The Living ProcessIn this episode Russell and I share a heartfelt discussion about the importance of the ‘physical body' and of going ‘beyond' it. Russell talks of the development of his teacher Moshe Feldenkrais, his method and how ‘freedom' was his main goal. Russell emphasised the important of ‘not-knowing' and how this helps to navigate the edge between Guided Inquiry, Feldenkrais, Zen meditation and their integration into the practice of The Embodied Life. This is a learning programme offered by Russell and his wife Linda, influenced by over 50 years of immersion in these practices and his direct relationship with Feldenkrais, Gendlin and principle teachers in the Zen tradition. Shownotes You've probably heard phrases like "listen to your body" or "drop into your body" and wondered—what does that really mean? How do you actually hear the wisdom of my body? It's one thing to hear the wisdom of your body. It's quite something else to live in alignment with the wisdom of the body. When you begin connecting with your body's wisdom and live in attunement to it, a whole new world opens up. And this will be extremely inconvenient. The identities, beliefs and patterns that you've been trying to uphold begin to shift. For example, feeling exhausted but you want to keep on working? Will you dare to listen to your bodily wisdom vs your perfectionist need to work more? But overtime, when you start attuning to the inner nudges, sensations, and guidance in all its forms, you discover a whole new sense of internal authority, wholeness, and aliveness. What does it really mean to be embodied and to truly hear the wisdom of your body? What does it take to live in alignment with that guidance? In this podcast episode, I'll be sharing 5 powerful tools to help you deeply listen to your body's language and awaken to its wisdom. You'll learn how to connect through sensations, pleasure, and emotions, so you can fully experience the wisdom of your body. Welcome back to the Effective Ministry Podcast! The first in a three part series on Identity, Sexuality and Gender, in this episode, Al James sits down with Simon Swadling to explore the phrase 'finding your identity in Christ.' They discuss the pressures young people face around identity, why the phrase might be more harmful than helpful, and its lack of biblical backing. Simon shares his thoughts on how the phrase can promote individualism and a disconnect between our spiritual and physical lives. The alternative is to focus on building deep, meaningful relationships with Jesus and finding new ways to talk about our worth and identity.Simon is a Children's Minister at Summer Hill Anglican, as well as working for Living Faith and Single Minded. You can access his writing and reflection on identity and other things at his Substack.Register for LiTRegistrations for Leaders in Training (LiT) 2024/25 are open for:-Spring (September 30-Oct 4, 2024) ***rego now closed***-Summer 1 (January 22-26, 2025)-Summer 2 (January 26-30, 2025)Find Out More about Square OneTo find out more about Square One visit the youthworks website. There is still space at Square One Spring 2 - 8th-10th November. This inspirational episode promises insights into living a more present, aware, and connected life. Russell Delman, co-developer of The Embodied Life - a transformative approach to human potential, joins us to reveal how to reclaim your personal power by taking responsibility for your internal state, rather than blaming emotional imbalances on other people and the world at large. Russell presents the critical role of embodiment in informing both our healing process and spiritual development, proposing a seismic shift from Western psychology's focus on individuality to recognizing our profound interconnectedness with everything around us. We examine the evolution of spiritual practices as vehicles for genuine healing and Russell's personal story, highlighting his integration of Zen meditation, Gestalt therapy, yoga and the Feldenkrais method. Russell shares a fascinating overview of Moshé Feldenkrais's life with highlights including engineering, unarmed combat, Judo, the genius of the brain and even nuclear secrets during World War II. He also explains how we are subtly informed by a culture of dissatisfaction, and how certain methods of learning lead to implicit self-acceptance for who we are. We discuss how emotions have both a story and a sensation and how crucial it is to become aware of the various layers of our emotional experiences in healing. Finally, we tackle the art of mastering authentic communication - a necessity for meaningful interactions in our increasingly complex world. Russell offers insights on how to navigate challenging conversations with grace, using presence and self-awareness as tools for understanding. This episode isn't just a conversation; it's an invitation to a more intentional and connected way of being.Russell's exploration of body/mind perspectives and human potential began while studying psychology at university, sparking a lifelong commitment to awareness. He deepened his understanding through workshops at the Esalen Institute, traveling in the jungles of South America and trainings in Zen meditation and yoga. He has extensively studied Gestalt therapy under Dr. Robert Hall and trained in the Feldenkrais Method with founder Moshé Feldenkrais. His relationship and study with Eugene Gendlin, the founder of the Focusing technique, was also of great significance. Russell was one of the first teachers chosen to lead Feldenkrais Professional Training Programs - he has taught in over 50 international programs, helping to train over 2500 Feldenkrais teachers internationally. Central to Russell's life are his nearly 50 years of marriage with Linda, co-developer of The Embodied Life, and their journey as parents to their daughter, Liliana.theembodiedlife.orgLiked what you heard? The single biggest hurdle to doing more embodied movement practice, for me personally, is the tight grip of urgency I often feel around time. Today on the podcast, I'm chatting with Rochelle Schieck, founder of the Qoya movement method. A big part of our conversation is exploring how we unwind the urgency of linear time & use the body as a portal to soul time. Rochelle & I have very different felt experiences of this shift away from urgent-linear-time into expansive-soul-time. I'm curious if you'll relate to either or perhaps experience it in another way. This conversation is part of our Embodied Movement series on Season 8 of the School of Embodied Arts Podcast (you can sign up to the podcast here). To see more from this series click here→ In this episode, we discuss & experience: A simple foundation Qoya exercise to bring more aliveness into the body What is “Embodied Presence,” and how can we awaken to it? In this episode, Lion and I explore how to be fully embodied, and why this is THE key to unlocking your wild, primal, sexual self. Unlocking this part of yourself allows you to create the kinds of relationships and sexual experiences you truly desire, in a safe way that builds connection and trust. You can't just think your way into sexual and relationship success though, and this is where most people get stuck. You have to practice embodying it, and understand what that actually means.IN THIS EPISODE…What does embodiment actually mean? How and why embodiment is the key to unlocking your wild, primal, sexual selfHow to open your heart, and why you need to feel your emotions fullyWhy learning have non-ejaculatory orgasms can save your relationshipINTRODUCING LION GALBANI met Lion Galban in Thailand a few years ago, and was immediately inspired and triggered by him at the same time. The way he moved on the dance floor with multiple women blew my mind, and I realized that I was actually jealous of the freedom he appeared to have. On that dance floor, he was embodied in a way that I've RARELY seen in any other man.Without putting him on a pedestal, I decided I wanted to learn about this aspect of being alive from him… So I went to one of his embodiment/dance workshops back when we were both living in Thailand. It was kind of like a dance-oriented play party. And if you've never heard of the term play party before, it usually refers to a kind of gathering where different people can explore being sensual and sexual with each other, within the context of a certain set of agreements to make the space as safe as possible. (If you want me to make a podcast episode about play parties, let me know). If you look at Lion's Instagram, you'll see lots of videos of him moving in wild ways, and you might even see some things that trigger you. It's worth looking at - pun intended. If you have any questions about today's episode, please feel free to reach out to Lion and/or myself. We're both here in service of your life.EPISODE TIMES & TOPICS7:00 – My first impression of Lion (when I got triggered)13:57 – What does embodiment mean?26:09 – Energetic attraction vs sexual attraction30:57 – What does “allow her to feel your heart” mean?37:40 – How to work with your emotions in an intelligent way40:49 – Why feeling your feelings can improve your entire life43:57 – How to honor and be your unique, primal, sexual self46:30 – How to navigate sexual shame around desires54:53 – Why learning to have an orgasm without ejaculation can save a relationshipCONNECT WITH LIONLion's WebsiteLion's InstagramLion's Facebook PageCONNECT WITH TAYLORTaylor's WebsiteTaylor's InstagramTaylor's Youtube ChannelThe Orgasmic Mastery Course

Have you ever wondered how to connect with your intuition? In today's episode, I talk to Rochelle Schieck, the founder of Qoya, all about just that. In our Qoya practice we say that we remember our true essence, as wise as wild and free. So how does that look for us in reality?Rochelle beautifully explains to us how her love of dance as a child, bringing her catharsis and reconnection, paved the path for Qoya to emerge. We discuss body based intuition and how listening and acknowledging what you hear within your body can lead to alignment and a sensation of truth. Rochelle is truly one of the most inspirational and gracious people I know. I would love to hear your thoughts on today's episode. About Rochelle:Rochelle Schieck is the founder of Qoya, a movement practice based on the idea that through movement, we remember our essence is wise, wild and free. Since its inception in 2009, she has trained hundreds of Qoya teachers, taught thousands of Qoya movement classes, and led dozens of retreats in the most sacred places on earth with one intention in mind: to remember and to help others do the same. Her work has been featured in outlets like New York Magazine, Oprah.com, The Telegraph, and Psychology Today, and she's the author of "Qoya: A Compass for Navigating an Embodied Life that is Wise, Wild and Free."Website: https://www.qoya.loveFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/EmbodyQoyaInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/qoya.love/About Meghan:Meghan Field is an intersectional social justice activist, Qoya Teacher, Intuitive Embodiment and Practical Magic Coach, Moon Mna/Irish Celtic lineage practitioner and Owner of Sacred Kernow Retreats. Russell and Linda Delman encourage us to bring warmth, humour and kindness of heart and mind to the exploration of our intimate inner selves and the “feeling states” of being human. Together they explain “embodiment” and introduce to us a simple and powerful practical taste of the Embodied Life School™️. Via Feldenkrais Method, conscious movement and meditation using precision specificity of feeling and sensing, grounded presence is created in your own immediate experience. Russell and Linda discuss the meaning of “integration” of feelings, sensations, emotions, thoughts and convey how using principles by which our nervous system learns to grow our awareness beyond our physical body can be used to awaken to our individual and collective human potential. This awareness may be a tangible doorway to enter new states of consciousness available and useful to all of us, to a larger experience of spaciousness and deeply connected relationship to ourselves, to others, to our environment and our earth. Embodied Life™️ evolved from Russell and Linda's extensive personal explorations and experience with Moshe Feldenkrais' teachings, with Moshe himself, giving Functional Integration lessons to Moshe and in giving numerous Feldenkrais Trainings together, as well as Russell's longstanding Zen meditation practice, somatic psychology and Focusing studies and Linda's Sacred Dance, spirituality and conscious movement studies and deep appreciation for nature. Sustaining awe, wonder and curiosity in how we deeply listen to ourselves in the present moment can grow our own capacity and resourcefulness in moving beyond our self-limiting habits and beliefs to find the possibility of expressions of freedom, wisdom and love Moshe Feldenkrais' teachings were leaning toward. Russell and Linda have taken the Feldenkrais Method to another level, truly evolving their own handwriting in their offering to humanity. “I really thought, like, if people have the choice to choose what they pay, they're going to undervalue me, and I was so sure that everybody would pick the lower fees. I'm making more money than I've ever made!” ~ Celeste Meyer Celeste Meyer has created something folks on this planet need to see more examples of - a pretty yummy, juicy life for herself and those with whom she’s in alliance. From friends to clients to partners, this fat-bodied, South Asian queer woman has molded her professional and personal spaces into shapes that defy confinement. She rejects the rigidity of white supremacy’s boxes - and she’s doing very well outside of them, thankyouverymuch. Predominately centered on BIPOC, queer, trans, and fat clients, Celeste’s practice is where intersectionality - and the wounds so often heaped on top of those instances of confluence - is given its proper due. You’ll recognize the phrase liberation-focused therapy from previous episodes. At a macro level, it’s a framework that offers empowerment and healing in aid of communities most neglected by mainstream mental health services. We even had time to unpack the healer and wounded healer questions - diving into issues of appropriation, the divine feminine, the seasonality of life, the Farmers Almanac (true story!). Celeste said it best: “I get to have cycles within me of blooming and conserving energy, being, you know, blossoming and ready to connect with all the plants around me - or being the one with one little leaf. I get to be all of them!” *** Celeste Meyer is a self-identified Brown Fat Femme who lives, loves, and works on unceded Muskoke/Creek territory known as Atlanta, Georgia. In her private practice, she predominantly sees BIPOC, queer, trans, and fat clients as they heal from trauma and focus on liberation through connection and somatic-based therapy. For full show notes, resources, and links to connect with our guest, visit: http://www.headhearttherapy.com/podcast HEY THERAPISTS... Rae and Caroline talk about the lived life of Jesus and the creational intent of the body.
Mandy Harvey is a Holistic Worthiness Coach and Nutritional Therapy Practitioner. She guides purpose driven women to optimal energy and an embodied life of worth through holistic nutrition. Her work centers on the understanding that when we experience trauma, especially at a young age, it sets in motion our beliefs on how we deserve to be nourished. These beliefs and doubts of our worthiness and value follow us into our womanhood where we hold these beliefs tightly to our “chest” until at some point they manifest into extreme and chronic health issues. It's in the unlocking of these physical health issues with holistic nutrition where we reclaim our worth, our voice and our truth and heal ourselves whole in mind, body and spirit. She believes that highly sensitive women, who own the power of their worth and live a life that has been healed whole, become the model for a new way of being and affect real change in a new generation.Mandy lives in Colorado with her family where she loves harvesting fresh food from her garden, painting and spending as much time as possible in the beautiful outdoors where she reconnects to herself daily. Trauma is an inevitable part of the human journey. I’m not just talking about those big, catastrophic, life-altering events. I’m also talking about the Little “t” traumas that teach you how to be you. Welcome to the Be YOU Podcast, where we stop forcing, competing, and comparing and learn how to uncover the real us so we can celebrate her and BE HER. I am thrilled to have Dr. Jenn Chrisman here with us today to talk about trauma. Dr. Jenn Chrisman is a licensed clinical psychologist, speaker, coach, host of the top rated Love Your Truth Podcast, and forthcoming author. She is committed to guiding people to their highest potential through inspiring radical self-reflection and offering practical direction. While her formal education has provided her with knowledge in the field of mental health, it is her life experiences and intuitive nature that makes her truly special at what she does and capable of guiding others in their own quest. As you listen to Dr. Jenn today, you will hear and feel the passion in her voice as she and I talk about Big “T” and Little “t” trauma. I think you will be surprised at how trauma can be a part of our lives without us even knowing it and what we can do to use these experiences to be unapologetically ourselves. Show Notes: [3:41] - Jenn Chrisman explains what Big “T” and Little “t” Trauma are. Trauma in general is a hotbed topic right now. [4:19] - Generally, we think about trauma as these catastrophic, life-altering events. Jenn gives examples of what we have historically considered to be trauma. [5:03] - But there are micro-traumas that can occur in day-to-day life. This is Little “t” trauma and it can show up anywhere. [6:26] - Jenn gives examples of some events that could present themselves subconsciously as Little “t” traumas. Oftentimes, this happens without us even knowing it. [6:47] - It’s really about creating a relationship of compassion and acceptance and acknowledgement of all of our experiences, including the ones that we’ve been told to sweep under the rug. [7:33] - Jill shares that she has a background with Big “T” trauma and it caused her to compartmentalize. She knew something had happened to her but she couldn’t remember it. [8:45] - Jenn explains that the brain is this incredibly powerful protector and when we experience something that is traumatic for us, it is common for us not to have a conscious memory of it. [9:48] - The Body Keeps the Score is a book that Jenn recommends about how the body can hold on to trauma without the mind consciously remembering it. [10:23] - You have a beautiful opportunity to look at and take an honest inventory of your life. We also have to be mindful that we don’t spend too much time trying to figure it out. [11:45] - This process has a certain level of surrender. Your mind will show you only what you are prepared and ready to see. [13:01] - Jill explains that in her journey, she did not begin seeking what happened to her. She followed her gut. [14:38] - Trauma is an inevitable part of the human journey. [15:46] - As we grow and develop, we learn how to be afraid, silence ourselves, and play small. [17:50] - As a mom, Jenn knows that part of her children’s path is to learn how to navigate these Little “t” traumas that force them to create a new relationship with their experiences. [19:05] - Jill admits that as someone who has experienced Big “T” trauma, that she wants to protect her children from experiencing any pain and trauma at all. But really, it is our jobs as parents to help our children navigate through their own experiences. [22:04] - What happens when we hover as parents, we fail to teach our children resilience and how to tolerate discomfort. [24:32] - Jenn and Jill discuss what it means to “be you.” This concept of knowing who you are and being okay with who you are is very in line with Jenn’s podcast as well - Love Your Truth Podcast. Oftentimes the reason why we struggle with knowing who we are is because we are taught to think of ourselves as one dimensional. [25:32] - Jenn shares an analogy of how life is like riding a bus and picking up different passengers. At different times in your life, there is a different driver of the bus, but once a passenger is on the bus, they’re there for life. [27:23] - We all have these complex layers and we are conditioned through life to hide certain parts. [28:49] - Being you is embracing all of it. [30:28] - Jenn briefly shares her past traumas as an example of knowing all of her “passengers.” Not everyone has these blaring, obvious passengers. [31:39] - Something you can do to know your passengers is to make a timeline of major key events or developmental milestones. These don’t have to be negative events but can be positive memories as well. [32:45] - Healing happens through embodiment and creativity. So many of us get very into our own heads. [33:30] - Using your timeline of major key events in your life, create a story. Tell the story of these “characters” and how they feel and view the world. This creative expression makes it easier to conceptualize your “passengers.” [35:14] - Journaling is also a powerful tool because it is a creative process. [36:34] - Dr. Chrisman has recently stopped doing one-on-one therapy with people and has shifted to a monthly membership that just launched called The Embodied Life Experience. [37:46] - She also offers different services, coaching, and mentorships, but The Embodied Life is where Jenn’s passion lies. [39:37] - Jill just signed up for Dr. Chrisman’s monthly membership and they discuss how impactful breath work is. I know there was something in this episode that you were meant to hear. Let me know what that is. Thank you for being here today with me on our healing journeys. Merry Christmas, friends. In this special episode, we look at how the Torah connects to the incarnation of the son of God. We will see that John’s “Christmas story” plays on Genesis 1, challenging us to embrace embodied life as a part of God’s (already blossoming) new creation. Like the podcast? This show is dedicated to a sense of wholeness, and how we can bring in more of the principles of the divine feminine, or feminine wisdom, into this crazy, mixed-up world we live in. And my oh my, do we need it now more than ever. Where we've disconnected from ourselves, our communities and nature, it's time to turn the tide, and bring in the aspects of the feminine which work to bind our connections to each other, along with our emotional and physical worlds. I'm sharing wisdom from some incredible women, including Mary Portas, with an extract from her recent book 'Work Like a Woman, A Manifesto for Change', as well as quotes from Clarissa Pinkola Estes' seminal work 'Women who Run with the Wolves', as well as a few words from book 'Qoya, A Compass for Navigating and Embodied Life that is Wise', Wild & Free, by the founder of Qoya, Rochelle Schieck. I also share the pillars of feminine wisdom that I live and work with through the strands of life, and invite you to identify how they can be interwoven into your life too. Join me for the first Activate Your Magic online classroom taking place on Wednesday 23rd Jan 7-9pm UK time. We will be Creating 2019 Goals with Soul. Earlybird tickets are available for £29 until Monday 21st Jan. BOOK NOW
Around Our House: I recently went out and visited Higher Ground intentional living community here in Bend Oregon. While there I sat down and had a chat with Casey Davis and Carol Delmonico, two people who have made Higher Ground their home and their community. This was a really interesting conversation that I have been looking forward to for a long time, stemming from my own dreams to live in, or maybe even create, an intentional community. If you are interested in learning more about the ins and outs of living in community with others, what that means, what it looks and feels like, then you are in the right place. Stick around for the second half of the show. But first, here is what Emily, Clemence and I have been up to for this past month…. Since I last sat down to record an episode Thanksgiving has come and gone, as has Winter Solstice, Christmas and New Years. We have been spending time reflecting on what the holiday season means to us, and a large part of that has been centered around gratitude. One thing Emily and I have incorporated into our daily practice is closing out our day by having a talk about what we are grateful for. It is usually the last thing we do before we turn out the lights and go to sleep. It has been a really nice reflective practice and it has felt especially pertinent during the holiday season. Another things that Emily and I have been talking more about is deepening our practice of spirituality and celebration that is tied to the cycles of the sun and the moon, as well as the observable changes of the seasons, the changing behavior of the plants and the animals according to these cycles throughout the year, and how all of this affects us and makes us feel. We have each always had deep personal connections to the natural world and a greater energy in the universe but now we are really trying to come together to understand one another’s beliefs and feelings and find traditions that we can share with our daughter and our community. For starters, we have committed to doing a new moon reset with each new moon for 2019. Mostly this will entail paying particular attention to our diet during the days around each new moon. We will be omitting sugars, caffeine, alcohol, grains, and dairy. I’m sure there are other things as well, but those are the ones that come to mind. We tend to eat pretty well around here, but we thought that we would use the cleansing and renewing energy of the new moon to renew our commitment to eating well and respecting our bodies each month. The next new moon is January 6th, which is Sunday by the way, in case you listen to this in time and care to join us. Also, coming up later this month there is a total lunar eclipse early the morning of January 20th. I am planning on getting up around 4:30 am and starting a fire in my back yard to observe the eclipse. I find total lunar eclipses to be amazingly beautiful. I remember the first time I really watched one closely and felt like I was observing the moon for the enormous celestial sphere that it is, a giant rock rotating the earth, rather than a glowing disk of light in the sky. That was a powerful moment for me and one I always enjoy reliving with total lunar eclipses. Anyhow, I have invited some friends over for 5am lunar viewing at my place. If you didn’t get the invite and you want to come and are in the area, let me know! And finally, I have been busy with family time. Enjoying the company of my wife and my daughter and our wonderful community of friends. This winter continues to be all that I hoped, rest, reflection, gathering with friends and family, as well as some time outdoors. There has been lots of planning and dreaming in this time of the year as well. One of the Big Dreams we cannot stop talking about is how to create a community living situation for us and some of our closest friends. The more we talk about it, the more it seems like it could be a reality. Which brings me to our guest interview today. Guest Interview: Casey Davis and Carol Demonico Higher Ground Intentional Living Community Casey Davis is a designer, mom, activator and community builder, Casey was born and raised in Bend, OR. When she isn't designing for businesses, Casey is passionate about community building, local activism and urban design. Her current "side" project is creating a new intentional community with the working title, The Bend Living Neighborhood Project. She served on the City of Bend's Central Westside Citizen Advisory Committee and currently is a member of the City's Citizen Transportation Advisory Committee. She recently self-published and interactive journal with Carol Delmonico entitled, Stoke Your Woke. "Imagine living a life within which you can trust yourself. Consider this your permission slip." Rochelle Schieck, Founder of Qoya On this week’s Practical Magic podcast, I’m talking with the founder of Qoya, Rochelle Schieck on how we can tune into the wisdom of the body. If you’re not familiar with Qoya it’s based on the idea that through movement we remember that we are all wise, wild and free. Rochelle shares more about how Qoya came to be, and how it can help us navigate the reality of our existence. On the show we explore: The body as a truth guide, and observing different states in the body How being led by our intuition allows us to free ourselves, and how we can never be wrong when we do so The difference between ego and soul voice How the pillars of Qoya, and embodiment are a metaphor for living in conversation with your life How slowing down helps us to tune in and to be in the experience of living Connecting into the hips as a true act of the power of the feminine Learning more about the 'shadow' to embrace our wholeness How movement can bring us back to ourselves again and again How to protect your lifestyle by nourishing life and what you put your attention to.
