Holy Basil is taking the stage, and we couldn't be more excited to highlight that precious holy oil today. "Tulsi essential oil is extracted from a bushy shrub with lavender-colored flowers. The tulsi plant has a long history of use in Indian wellness practices and has served as an important part of spiritual protective rituals in many cultures. Tulsi means “the incomparable one,” and the plant has been referred to as “queen of the herbs.” Experimental research suggests eugenol and β-Caryophyllene—chemical constituents in Tulsi oil—contribute to its cleansing properties and skin benefits." -doterra website Want to get essential oils into your home? Tulsi, also known as Holy Basil, originates from the Indian subcontinent and is widely cultivated in Southeast Asian tropics. Revered as the Queen of the Herbs, Tulsi holds significance in Hindu culture as a sacred plant, an avatar of Lakshmi the consort of god Vishnu. With upturned leaves reaching towards the sun, Tulsi is considered blessed by deities, symbolising divine origins and eternal blessings. Aligning with Tulsi is seen as a means to invite abundance, joy and prosperity. The plant's cleansing properties make it a protective force when diffused in a space, deterring negative energies and even thieves. Beyond its spiritual symbolism, Tulsi helps individuals navigate life's challenges, fostering focus, resilience and reclaiming control. In the midst of life's distractions, Tulsi guides inner focus, aiding women during menopausal transitions and supporting mental clarity. A note to my listeners about where these channeled sessions with the spirits of nature take place. Unlike a typical podcast, I am not channeling in a space set up for recording audio. Rather I am channeling in my meditation loft or outside in a natural setting. To put it another way, these channeled sessions are recorded ‘on location'; for this reason, the sound quality may not be at the level of one who sits in a studio-like environment and carries on what my guides refer to as a human-to-human discourse.

If you have been in the essential oil world for any length of time, no doubt you have heard the phrase, “when in doubt use Frank,” referring to Frankincense. In India, it's not Frankincense, it's Tulsi. Also known as Holy Basil, or Ocimum Sanctum, this plant is well known for a wide array of benefits, some hard to believe! Over 100 studies have been done on this amazing plant, and the stories around it's traditional use explain why it is such a common and well-loved herb. I grew tulsi this past year, and have been working with it regularly for the past couple of months. In this episode, I review how to document what you are learning about plants, give lots of information about tulsi for you to include in your notes, and share my personal experience. I encourage you to reach out for a one-on-one visit to help you find the right plant friend for yourself, and to check out our upcoming events. All of this can be found on www.laureltreewellnessllc.com. If this episode blessed you, please share with a loved one, and I would be so grateful if you left a review! Thank you for listening!

I had such a blast with this episode about the myriad gifts of holy basil, in part because my guest, Lucretia VanDyke, is so infectiously fun. But also because I blissfully started the day with her recipe for Herbal Love Pancakes and that is definitely not to be missed. Lucretia brings so much joy and creative energy to her work! Even if you've long loved holy basil, I suspect you'll come away from this episode knowing even more ways to work with this wonderful herb. You'll also receive instant FREE access to Lucretia's delicious Herbal Love Pancakes recipe featuring holy basil, lemon balm and roses. I know you're going to love making (and eating!) these healthful, yet indulgent pancakes with your loved ones. By the end of this episode, you'll know: ► A variety of ways to work with holy basil's gifts for nourishing and balancing the body and spirit ► Why holy basil is one herb you just might want to grow for yourself, rather than purchasing it ► Why it's important to recognize and honor the grandmothers of American herbalism Here is one of my favorite takeaways from our conversation: “Why not bring holy basil into your daily routine? I love it for the properties that it does for skin. It brightens a lot. It really hydrates. It adds this beautiful smell when you infuse it in the oils; especially if you try to do it fresh, it's amazing. I'm all about self love and all about self nourishment and adorning yourself. And I love to teach other women that.” For those of you who aren't already familiar with Lucretia, here's a bit more about her. With a journey that began when she was a little girl mixing herbs, muds, and roots on her grandparents' farm, Lucretia VanDyke has had a lifelong connection to the plants and been in the wellness industry for over 25 years. Her quest for knowledge and storytelling has led her all over the world to learn about remedies, traditions, and ceremonies from indigenous healers. One of the foremost experts on southern folk healing arts, Lucretia integrates rituals, plant spirit meditation, holistic food/herbal medicine, and ancestor reverence into people's practices. Lucretia has worked and trained with many internationally known spa and skin care companies. She is a Holistic Educator, Speaker, Herbalist, Sacred Sexologist, Ceremonialist, Spiritual Coach, Intuitive Energetic Practitioner, Diviner, Author, and world traveler. Lucretia has studied with some of the greatest minds of our time. She brings her vivacious spirit and her message of ancestral connection in herbal practices to inspire others to embrace their unique relationship with the plants. Her work with herbs and ceremony honors African healing arts, Women's Wholeness Medicine, grief work, trauma, self love empowerment, and holistic botanical skin care. Teaching herbal classes, cooking, storytelling, traveling, and foraging in the woods learning native medicine is what charges her soul! Deau and Joy are the power couple and Co-Founders behind LA's buzziest Thai restaurant, Holy Basil. Both hail from Bangkok, but boast different stories on how their paths eventually converged at the now-closed Chandara as cashier and bartender, respectively. Deau's background was in graphic design and naturally the pair launched a string of pop-ups promoting their beverage brand The_Base. Naturally, the opportunity presented itself and the duo soon found themselves launching their first ever full blown Bangkok street food concept in Downtown Los Angeles. Since opening in early 2021, they've had their share of challenges in educating the consumer base as well as a string of accolades validating their years of work in this industry. Welcome back to our weekend Cabral HouseCall shows! This is where we answer our community's wellness, weight loss, and anti-aging questions to help people get back on track! Check out today's questions: Christina: Hi Dr. Cabral. What do you think about eating for your blood type? I've been reading the book “Eat Right 4 Your Blood Type” and find it particularly interesting. Any comments or thoughts on this? Ryan: Hello, I have been wondering if you know anything about the approximate ratio of black pepper to turmeric is needed to get the benefits of the bioperine? I don't want to get too much into the micro here but also would like to know practically if a tiny grind from the shaker is enough or if larger amounts are needed? Thanks in advance. Cindy: Dr Cabral, I listened to Episode 760 on killing viruses. It talks about the need to ramp up your immune system, however, I have an autoimmune thyroid,(Hashimotos) and was told to avoid things that ramp up my immune system, because the immune system has already gone rogue, and it could cause the body to attack itself even more. For instance, I read to avoid echinacea and Holy Basil. Can you clear this up because I certainly would like to support immune system without causing issues with my autoimmunity. I listen all the time, so thanks for your help on this issue. Cindy Liz: Hi Dr. Cabral, Thank you for putting so much time and effort into your podcasts; it's clear that you have a drive and a need to help people help themselves! I've learned a lot over the past couple of years. My question is, what do you think of fucoxanthin supplements to aid in fat loss? I haven't been able to find a lot of information on it, but what I have seen seems promising. It's hard to find though, and I question the quality of the supplements I have been able to find. Is fucoxanthin legit? And if so how do I find a source I can trust? Thank you! Bob: Hi Dr. Cabral. Love the podcast and your unbias approach to everything you cover. I know you have a lot of content on Intermittent Fasting so I apologize if my question has already been addressed, but I'm wondering what breaks a fast when doing Intermittent Fasting? I'll start my morning w/ some organic non-caffeinated herbal tea (typically some Roasted Dandelion Root or Rose Hips & Hibiscus by Traditional Medicinals, or Lemon Ginger plus Probiotics by Bigelow). Would that break my fast? Also curious about supplements. Would taking a supplement pill first thing in the morning or right before bed break a fast? Crystal: Hi Dr. Cabral! I am 25 and have struggled with my weight my entire life. When I was in high school, I got very slim but then gained over 100 pounds between ages 19-20. I was then diagnosed at 20 with PCOS which has resulted in chronic dry eye syndrome and hypothyroidism. I went vegan shortly after I was diagnosed for ethical and health reasons. I was able to lose the majority of the weight, but in the past year have put a lot back on. Even with listening to your previous podcasts on PCOS, doing slow weighted workouts and steady cardio with balanced, high-protein meals, the weight does not want to shed. I'm at a loss for what to do and was wondering if you could recommend a certain diet/protocol? I want to mention that because I'm vegan and aiming to eat higher protein meals, I often use faux meats to meet my macro goals. I sway towards cleaner products, but many have PUFAs, which I know you say causes inflammation. Could this be a reason I'm not losing weight? Do I have to give these up to reach my goals? What are some better protein sources for vegans besides beans, tofu, and tempeh? Thank you so much! I so value your work and expertise, and am so grateful for your podcast and deep care for peoples' health!
