Deputies thought they were responding to a routine welfare check at a shared house in Spotsylvania, Virginia. Instead, they discovered three roommates dead and one of the people who lived there, 23-year-old Alyssa Venable, was nowhere to be found. Investigators say Venable had moved into the house only weeks earlier. By the time police arrived, she had cut her hair, left Virginia and was heading north in a silver Honda Civic. What followed was a multi-state search, stolen license plates and a high-speed police chase stretching more than 40 miles before Venable was finally taken into custody. But it was what investigators learned afterwards about the days leading up to the deaths, and what Venable allegedly told another inmate, that revealed just how disturbing the case really was. So this week we're re-introducing The Veil with the Subscriber only special episode - Where is Sara Neithe?On Sunday 30 March 2003, Sara Niethe drove out of Kerepehi in her mother's light green Honda Civic, stopped at a dairy in Ngatea where a security camera recorded her, and carried on to a house at Kaihere. She was never seen again. Her daughter turned ten the next day, with a table booked at a café. Ten years later Mark Pakenham pleaded guilty to her manslaughter — he had injected her with methamphetamine, a drug she had never used, and watched her die. He was paroled in 2016. Sara has never been found. Neither has the car.IF YOU KNOW SOMETHINGThe car is the most useful thing anyone can help with: a light green 1987 Honda Civic hatchback, registration NH4050, which vanished from the Kaihere / Ngatea / Thames area around 30–31 March 2003 and has never surfaced at a wrecker, been re-registered, or turned up in a drain or a paddock. He did not want anyone to see the car. The lot was full of Bentleys. He felt the embarrassment. Then he started talking to those families. Most had almost no savings. Some were on scholarship. The image of wealth and the reality of wealth were completely different balance sheets. Earl, who had been eating half a $5 Subway footlong for lunch since his first years in America, was the one with money. The wealth nobody sees is usually the wealth that is actually there. Earl's daughters skip luxury goods not because they were told to, but because they have never watched their parents buy them. Great companies can surprise you to the upside in ways you will not predict. On this episode of Movie Torture, the boys somehow turn Revenge of the Nerds into a full-blown discussion about boogers, mooning, prison sentences, and whether MTD belongs with the Alpha Betas or the Lambda Lambdas. Brad immediately hijacks the show by proudly announcing that if anybody on the podcast is Booger, it is 100% him, then follows it up with a Navy story about pulling a booger the size of a corn kernel out of his face like he just discovered buried treasure. Jacob contributes by explaining the emotional devastation of thinking you have a bat in the cave and finding out your nose was just lying to you.Once they finally remember there is a movie to talk about, Brad gets sentimental about Robert Carradine, because to him Lewis will always be a legend, a laugh, and a man who somehow made giant glasses look cool. The guys agree the movie is a complete 80s time capsule, right down to the outfits, the soundtrack, the robot side chick, and a fraternity system that would now lead to about 47 separate felony counts and a Dateline special.From there, the episode becomes a courtroom drama disguised as a comedy recap. Brad and Jacob basically spend an hour deciding which characters are going to jail and for how long. The nerds are somehow lovable and criminal at the same time, the jocks are idiots, and everyone in the movie appears to be one bad decision away from doing 15 to life. Brad repeatedly reminds everyone that Lewis is not surviving modern law enforcement, especially after the Darth Vader moon bounce incident, while Jacob tries to keep at least one foot in reality and point out that none of this is remotely okay, even if it is funny.They also stop the movie several times to argue about whether Brad is actually a nerd, which turns into a side quest about Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, Star Wars, and Brad's refusal to be grouped with “full-course nerds.” Jacob insists Brad is Lewis, Brad insists Jacob is Gilbert, and somewhere in the middle MTD gets promoted to Lewis's dad, which honestly feels right.Other major topics include: whether MTD ordered the Honda Civic as a lateral move, whether random mooning should be illegal, whether George Soros funded the nerd house rebuild, whether the Asian nerd's tricycle beer race was secretly the best event in cinema history, and why Brad's son apparently turned into a ding-dong-ditching athlete just to prove Brad can run stairs.By the end, Brad once again reminds the audience that ChatGPT says he's funnier than Jacob, which Jacob clearly takes as a personal act of war.

In this episode, Bill Thomas, the brother of Colonial Parkways murder victim Cathy Thomas, and I examine the series of homicides that occurred in Virginia between 1986 and 1989. The case began in 1986, when Bill's sister, Cathy, and her girlfriend were found dead in Cathy's Honda Civic just off the Colonial Parkway. For more than three decades, the murders remained unsolved.That shifted in 2024, when a Northern Neck waterman, Alan Wade Wilmer Sr., was linked to two of the Colonial Parkway cases—and to several additional homicides across Virginia's three peninsulas, including some not previously connected to the series. Then, in January, more than 39 years after Cathy's death, Bill learned that her killing had been formally tied to Wilmer Sr.Even with this development, Bill's search for answers continues—particularly how Wilmer Sr., once on the FBI's radar and ruled out early on, was able to continue killing.
