Famous for his role as Dwight Schrute on the Office, Rainn Wilson has brought light to the world through comedy and uplifting spiritual content. Reflecting on his time filming the iconic series, Wilson discusses how comedy has served as a healing force in his life, stemming from his childhood experiences. He opens up about his struggles with depression and the profound spiritual awakening that followed, emphasizing the importance of finding meaning and purpose in life. Wilson passionately argues for a necessary spiritual revolution, advocating for hope amidst the chaos of the modern world. He delves into the true meaning of spirituality, exploring themes of connection to something greater and the release of dogma in favor of genuine spiritual truth. Throughout the conversation, he contemplates profound questions about life, death, and the purpose of pain and suffering, ultimately reflecting on his life and the spiritual practices that guide him. This was one of my favorite conversations over the last year or so. Figured it'd be nice to share it again...   We are joined in this episode by Writer, Producer, Actor and Mentor, LARRY WILMORE! We discussed what drew Larry to comedy, writing, acting and producing; and, yes, we did talk about the WGA strike; why, as a kid, he was compelled by the work of such greats as Houdini, Buster Keaton, the Marx Brothers and Flip Wilson; rebounding from professional setbacks and keeping a healthy mindset; his thoughts on the "TP&R question" - how to be better at talking about politics and religion across our differences; and we got pretty deep with the concept of consciousness, meaning and why humans have a desire to have a life of meaning.   Emmy Award winner Larry Wilmore is a prolific producer, actor, comedian, and writer. He is also the host of the excellent podcast Larry Wilmore: Black on the Air. Larry is perhaps best known for his role as host of Comedy Central's The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore and as the “Senior Black Correspondent” on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart. Off-screen, Larry serves as co-creator and consulting producer on HBO's Insecure, and helped to launch ABC's black-ish as an executive producer and is a co-creator of the spin-off Grownish. Previously, he has written for In Living Color, The PJ's (which he co-created), The Office (on which he also appeared), and The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. He also served as creator, writer, and executive producer of The Bernie Mac Show, which earned him his Emmy for “Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series” and a 2001 Peabody Award. Helping children establish boundaries is important for developing friendships and maintaining positive social interactions. Boundaries help people set limits for themselves and honor limits set by others. In "Boundaries," three eight- and nine-year-old kids (Olivia, Izzy, and Wynter) define and discuss boundaries and help Qook-a-leekie and Link-a-deedle friends learn the importance of boundaries. They discover that understanding someone else's boundaries requires empathy, the ability to recognize others' feelings...and that takes practice. The role of  Qwee-vee the Qook-a-leekie is played by Ana Cruz Kayne and the role of Lexton the Link-a-deedle is played by Michael Cruz Kayne. Ana and Michael are siblings in real life, so they know a thing or two about boundaries.  Ana is an actress and writer, known for her performances in Barbie (2023), Little Women (2019), Jerry & Marge Go Large (2022), Painkiller (TV 2023), and Another Earth (2011). Note: This episode was recorded in June 2023, prior to the SAG-AFTRA union declaring a strike.  Rainn Wilson describes himself as an actor and an artist, who writes some books about spirituality on the side. As well-known as Rainn is on the screen and stage, particularly for playing Dwight on the TV series “The Office,” we invited him on House Calls to talk about spirituality – specifically how spirituality can help us change the world for the better, from addressing global challenges like climate change, to creating more connection and community in our daily lives.     Rainn is looking for what he calls a “spiritual revolution”, in which we all give back to humanity with “loving kindness.” Join us as we talk about what that looks like and how we can all help make our world a more meaningfully connected place.    (02:38)   How does Rainn Wilson want to be known?  (06:42)    Are we experiencing a spiritual crisis?  (11:13)    How can spirituality help fix today's world?  (15:36)    How has Rainn's personal journey with spirituality evolved?  (20:25)    What precipitated Rainn's experience of loneliness and isolation as a young man?  (24:09)    What would Rainn Wilson today tell his 20-year-old self about happiness?  (34:59)    How can we connect and lead with love?  (41:00)    Love, kindness, and loving kindness.  (55:06)    How does Rainn prioritize people and community in his life?  (01:01:11)    Which of Rainn Wilson's many pets is a being most of us have probably never encountered?    We'd love to hear from you! Not every movie has to be the biggest and the best, the funniest and most clever, the loudest and most spectacular.  It is okay sometimes for a movie to just, you know, be a movie.  That is preceisely what we encounter today with the Bryan Cranston and Annette Bening-starring "Jerry and Marge go Large."  The now available on Blu-ray and digital comedy is... fine, and that's quite enough.

Tämä leffa kiinnosti itseäni todella paljon, sillä pääosassa nähdään Bryan Cranston ja pelkästään se riitää itselle. Hänen lisäkseen mukana on mm. Today's show is a discussion and review of Paramount Plus exclusive JERRY AND MARGE GO LARGE.Ever wonder what it would feel like to win the lottery?  How about what it would feel like to KNOW you're going to win the lottery?  Well, Jerry and Marge Go Large is based on the true story of Jerry Selbee, who retired from the Kellogg's Cereal factory after 42 years and had no idea what to do with himself, and his wife Marge Selbee, who up until Jerry played the state lottery lived a very normal life as a homemaker and grandmother.  One day, Jerry came across a brochure for a state lottery game Winfall.  Jerry, being good at math, a statement used in the movie as a comedic bit as Jerry is obviously a math whiz, figures out that there is a flaw in Winfall and it might be possible to net a guaranteed win if he bought enough tickets. In 2018, journalist Jason Fagone wrote a fantastic super long article on the Selbee's, which was adapted into our feature film today.  So let's get into the film adaptation of the amazing life of the everyday average retirees Jerry and Marge in JERRY AND MARGE GO LARGE.Huffington Post Article - https://highline.huffingtonpost.com/articles/en/lotto-winners/Thanks for listening and feel free to hit us up on any of our social media platforms!https://linktr.ee/BiAPodcastTheme song "Loli'ana" written and performed by award-winning musician Kamuela Kahoano.   Listen to more of Kamuela's music on iTunes and https://kamuelamusic.com/.  Also, "Loli'ana" performed live at The Ko'olau Banquet Hall can be seen here https://youtu.be/YDJ1NNJgEiA  If you enjoyed our show, subscribe and check out our new shows that drop every Friday.  Also, new this year, our non-routine Anniversary Specials, which are 30 minute shows that pay tribute to a movie celebrating a significant anniversary.

Retired shop owner Jerry Selbee spent most of his mornings hanging around gas stations drinking coffee and reading the Detriot times. During one of these many mornings, in 2003, Jerry read the back of a lottery ticket game called Winfall and after 2 minutes of doing an analysis found a loop hole in the game that made the game profitable to the player. After playing a few games to test his theory, he was winning at 46+% profit margins. He soon told his wife about the game and the two of them set up a corporate called GS Investment Strategies LLC. They invited friends and family to join in to their lottery group at $500 a piece for a share. In May 2005, the Michigan Lottery shut down Winfall, but they found that a similar version was being played in Massachusetts. The couple made several 12 hour drives to play Winfall there. By 2009, they had grossed more than $20 million in winning tickets, with a net profit of $5 million after taxes and expenses. In 2011, News caught wind of Jerry & Marge and a story was published that made them both appear to be cheaters. In 2012, Jerry & Marge decided to tell their story. In 2012, Jerry & Marge played their last game of Winfall. Their final winnings were nearly $27 million after playing 9 years in 2 different states. Amy Baer currently serves as President of Landline Pictures, a label within MRC Film that makes feature films about and for the 50+ audience. Launched in 2020, their  first movie, JERRY & MARGE GO LARGE, directed by David Frankel, who did MARLEY & ME, is streaming now on Paramount+.  Starring Bryan Cranston and Annette Bening, the film is based on the true story of a married couple who used a loophole in the Massachusetts State Lottery to win $27 million. I watched it with my dad a few weeks ago and it's incredibly fun and heartwarming. While Amy grew up in a showbiz family, she still had to carve her own path. One thing was certain: she did not want to be an actor. During her stint at CAA in 1988 as an assistant to the late Jay Moloney, she discovered the studio executive route. She eventually became President & CEO of CBS Films. She also spent 17 years at Sony Pictures Entertainment, where she oversaw impressive films such as: MY BEST FRIEND'S WEDDING (1997) ADAPTATION (2001) S.W.A.T. (2002) SOMETHING'S GOTTA GIVE (2003) THE HOLIDAY (2006) MONEYBALL (2011) Amy's entrepreneurial spirit led her to raise seven figure development fund and launch Gidden Media, one of the industry's only female-led, independently financed content incubation companies.  Her first film as a producer was the 2013 hit LAST VEGAS, starring Michael Douglas, Robert DeNiro, Morgan Freeman and Kevin Kline, which grossed $136MM worldwide.  A devoted wife and mother of two, Amy has also found time to be Board President of Women in Film since June 2018. A few takeaways from our chat include: Soaking up as much as you can when you are in a job you dislike How leaving the studio system forced her to develop an entrepreneurial muscle And how to not take things personally

Kelly, and James Franco still bad humans -Is there any realistic hope at all for Rob Zombie's "The Munsters"? -"Jerry and Marge Go Large" is sweet and shockingly almost conflict-free. -"Thor: Love and Thunder" has the right parts but is trying too hard to rekindle your memory of "Ragnarok." -Switch the Pitch -- "Horse Girl" / "The Conversation" -What exactly is 2020's "Horse Girl" really going for? Is 1974's "The Conversation" a victim of our sensibilities about a surveilance state and a conspiracy thriller moving beyond what it can do? The guys discuss their misgivings about both movies and then pitch a brand-new project combining elements from both movies.
