I've sat through a lot of professional development over the years, and I don't remember a single one that ever took something off my plate - it was always more! That's why this episode exists: to simplify your workload by doing less of what isn't actually serving you or your students. I share three things to consider stopping for a semester and explain why habits that feel productive often create more stress, more grading, and less meaningful learning. We also talk boundaries and time protection so you can test what happens when you finally take something off your plate!➡️ Show Notes: https://itsnotrocketscienceclassroom.com/episode218Resources:Winter science freebiesSSS Virtual PD Course Bundle Core Values Mini-CourseDownload your FREE Classroom Reset Challenge.Take the Free Labs When Limited virtual PD courseSend me a DM on Instagram: @its.not.rocket.scienceSend me an email: rebecca@itsnotrocketscienceclassroom.com Follow, rate, and review on Apple Podcasts.Follow, rate, and comment on Spotify.Related Episodes:Episode 77, 5 Myths You Might Believe About Your Work EmailEpisode 96, Why I Stopped Assigning Homework (And 6 Surprising Results)Episode 116, Behind Schedule? Are you open to applying for scholarships, but don't have any time to find them? I got you boo! Today, I present to you the following scholarship that could help you afford textbooks this semester! --> Courage to Grow Scholarship OR, let me find you scholarships!!! I can guarantee finding students between $10,000-30,000 in scholarships for college, university, grad school, law school, etc. I charge less than 1% of what I find them, depending on which tier you choose to hire me. I try to find them based on school, major, interests, and other random/general scholarships for which anyone can apply. I cannot guarantee that you will for sure receive the scholarships, as you will need to apply for them yourself, but I can at least provide the opportunities. (It would pretty much be illegal for me to apply for things in someone else's name:) Interested? So, if you're ready to stop dreading making decisions, and find EASY solutions to help you pay for college while following His path for your life, this podcast is for you! Hey there! I'm Kara Walker, a twenty-something entrepreneur, amateur snowboarder, recovering over-achiever, and debt-free college graduate. In college, I too was a stressed college student, looking for money and mental peace. I wondered if there were other ways to pay for college besides loans, and wished for clear direction on how to make college and career decisions! Not only was I worried about drowning in debt, but also afraid I hadn't heard Jesus correctly. Was I studying the wrong thing? Was I completely off track? I felt semi-out of control and was spiraling, until I learned how to hear from God and follow His direction. He guided me and gave me the stepping stones to pay for college. Scholarships, grants, testing out of classes, and other weird school hacks got me through debt-free! And, I'm here to teach you HOW to do this, too. So grab your cold brew and TI-89, and listen in on the most stress-free and debt-free class you've ever attended: this is Money and Mental Peace. More about this episode... Finding cheap textbooks doesn't have to be overwhelming anymore. Many students choose to rent textbooks instead of buying new, especially when they only need them for a semester. You can often rent a textbook through major retailers like Amazon or student-focused platforms, and some even look for textbooks for rent through peer-to-peer marketplaces. Others save money by searching for used textbooks, exploring online textbooks, or checking whether rent textbooks Amazon options fit their budget. For short-term access, some students turn to services that let them rent books on Chegg, while others take advantage of textbook buyback programs at the end of the term to recoup some costs. When money is tight, students also look for legal ways to access free textbook PDF versions, especially for older editions or public-domain materials.

The “new year, fresh start” energy feels exciting, but can also be overwhelming! This episode cuts through the noise with a refreshingly simple approach to goal setting. Instead of complicated systems, you'll focus on just two questions: what you want to do more of this year and what you want to do less of, both personally and in your science classroom. We'll talk about prioritizing yourself, identifying energy and time drains, getting specific with your goals, and making small, flexible shifts that actually stick. By the end, you'll have a clear, manageable direction for the semester...and maybe even the motivation to reset alongside your science team!➡️ Show Notes: https://itsnotrocketscienceclassroom.com/episode216Resources Mentioned:Shop INRS full year curriculum bundles.Complete unitsWinter science freebiesCore Values Mini-Course SSS Virtual PD Course BundleDownload your FREE Classroom Reset Challenge.Take the Free Labs When Limited virtual PD courseSend me a DM on Instagram: @its.not.rocket.scienceSend me an email: rebecca@itsnotrocketscienceclassroom.com Follow, rate, and review on Apple Podcasts.Follow, rate, and comment on Spotify.Related Episodes and Blog Posts:Episode 55, Goal Setting for the New Year - A Different ApproachEpisode 56, Scheduling Rest - Why You Need to And How to Do ItEpisode 111, Priorities and Boundaries in the New YearEpisode 165, How Naming What Matters Most Can Change the Rest of Your School YearJanuary 4th - 10th, I will be doing my BIGGEST sale of the year with DAILY discounts that are exclusively for my email list. These M1s say it wasn’t easy…but it was FUN? You know medical school is hard, but what does that mean? That idea has no emotional connection to anything until you are IN IT, and these M1s definitely were. Jonah Albrecht, Trever Maiers, Alex Johnson, and Chris Ceplecha review the M1 semester and how they survived it. You’ll hear about what habits they had to drop, and which of their experiments in learning were a waste of time. Who did they lean on? What made it possible? What did they trip over, and how did right themselves? Their stories should give hope to future students that while medical school is tough in ways that are unpredictable, by working together–whether teaching each other, admitting when they needed help, and taking advantage of the resources available to them–it’s not only possible, but “fun!” Episode credits: Producer: Jonah Albrecht Co-hosts: Trever Maiers, Alex Johnson, Chris Ceplecha The views and opinions expressed on this podcast belong solely to the individuals who share them. Seven schools were so severely damaged that students were displaced. Now, SLPS administrators plan to have the schools either reopened or renovated by December 2026. STLPR's Hiba Ahmed discusses the impact of the school closures, what the plan to reopen looks like and what the community's response has been in the six months since the tornado.
Was ist Resilienz? We are in a season of transition! It's been a wonderful journey as a trio, but with changing demands, Matt is going to step away from the podcast. We are grateful for the time and conversations we've had over the past four and a half years(!) and we wish him well as he moves into other adventures. Abby and Dave have decided to continue to record new episodes, and we hope you'll continue to join us in the metaphorical hallway. In today's episode, we are thinking about what it looks like to be in the middle of the semester when things feel a little stale…or maybe “the honeymoon is over!” We share some ideas and strategies we use to mix things up to look for ways to increase students' engagement, making the curriculum accessible and meaningful for our students. We hope you'll be encouraged to talk about your own strategies for mixing things up with colleagues in your hallways as well! We always love hearing from you, dear listeners. What if a few simple shifts could turn your math class into a place where more students talk, think, and truly learn? We start with our usual celebration of the "day of" by tipping our hats to Ada Lovelace. Then we ask the PL Team to share some of their "themes of support" that come up as they work with teachers during the beginning part of the year. The struggles and challenges that they face and some of the advice or suggestions that they share with these teachers. Hear about what “enough practice” really means and why demanding fluency too soon backfires. You'll hear how three-before-me and a strong Resource Manager cut down on the teacher traffic jam, and how behavior management gets easier when tasks are collaborative, non-routine, and designed with easy entry points. Our PL specialists share practical frameworks for keeping students engaged from bell to bell, plus the reflective questions that elevate planning: Are students collaborating? Will they share work publicly? Do they know how to begin? Then we go classroom-deep with an update from our Join Them on Their Journey teachers. Jessie talks about her experiment with daily randomized groups reduced off-task talk and amplified math voices that had been quiet for weeks, while Chi redesigned assessment to include a fast correction cycle using targeted indicators instead of immediate scores. If you're ready to boost fluency without sacrificing sense-making—and build a classroom culture where every student sees themselves as a math learner—press play. Subscribe, share this with a colleague, and leave a quick review telling us which strategy you'll try first.Send Joel and Misty a message! The More Math for More People Podcast is produced by CPM Educational Program.
