In the past couple of months, a new type of fitness competition has been generating a lot of anticipation. Headed by multiple-time CrossFit Games athlete Will Moorad, the World Fitness Project is entering the competitive landscape in a year when the CrossFit Games is undergoing its biggest changes yet. The competition consists of two tour events and a finals event at the end of 2025. There are 20 professionally signed male and female athletes, along with 10 challengers at each event. Additionally, team and masters competitions will take place at these events. Overall, this competition appears to create a clear pathway for athletes to compete in the sport and make a living as professional fitness athletes. They have released a movement list for the season, already demonstrating standardisation we haven't seen in CrossFit. The WFP has signed many of the sport's top athletes, with several planning to compete in both the CrossFit Games and the WFP season. In this week's episode, we discuss what this could look like from a training perspective and whether it provides mid-tier competitors with a more structured and potentially rewarding outlet than what CrossFit has offered in the past. If you're not already subscribed to our newsletter, head over to www.legionsc.com to get a weekly selection of training tips and our favorite articles. We run online workshops for coaches as well. The COVID-19 pandemic didn't just disrupt pharmaceutical manufacturing—it catalysed a fundamental shift in how we approach CDMO partnerships. Johnson & Johnson's Paolo Giudici reveals how their four-year digital transformation journey is reshaping the future of external manufacturing. Key transformations reshaping sponsor-CDMO relationships: Real-time manufacturing floor visibility enabling proactive process control Seamless ERP integration across the partner ecosystem Standardised quality data exchange and monitoring Compressed timelines from years to months The critical challenge? Standardisation. Unlike mature industries, pharma lacks unified frameworks for digital CDMO collaboration. "Currently, if a sponsor attempts to establish digital collaboration with a CMO, they essentially start from scratch," notes Giudici. Strategic implementation insights: Secure explicit partnership agreements before technical integration Focus on value creation, not job displacement Establish clear cost-sharing frameworks upfront Leverage industry collaboration networks Read the article here Paolo will be speaking about Digital Transformation of Pharma Manufacturing at CDMO Live 2025. Listen to this interview of Enxhi Ferko, PhD student, and Alessio Bucaioni, Associate Professor — both at Mälardalen University, Sweden. We talk about their coauthored paper Standardisation in Digital Twin Architectures in Manufacturing (ICSA 2023). Enxhi Ferko : "What really pleases me about this study is, sure, our contributions have proven interesting and useful to both academics and practitioners. But we were happy to reach, as well, even a third group of stakeholders, namely, the people involved in this particular standardization body. And that's because this ISO standard is quite new, and so, it's expected to evolve in an iterative feedback process, of which now our work is forming a constructive part!” Learn more about your ad choices. Send me a messageWelcome to a special edition of the Climate Confident Podcast. In this episode, I sit down with Jim Sullivan, Global Head of Product Management for Sustainability at SAP. With three decades of experience in sustainability and climate change—including roles at the EPA and in startups—Jim offers deep insights into the evolving corporate approach to climate action. We delve into the key takeaways from this year's Climate Week in New York. Jim highlights how the event has grown beyond climate discussions to encompass material transitions like the circular economy and hard-to-abate sectors such as aluminium and steel. He shares encouraging progress, noting that members of the CEO Climate Action Alliance have achieved a 10% absolute reduction in emissions over three years, even as their businesses have grown.A central theme of our conversation is the pivotal role of data and technology in accelerating sustainability initiatives. Jim explains that much of the necessary data for sustainability reporting already exists within companies but isn't effectively utilised. We explore how AI can act as a valuable colleague, handling tedious tasks like emissions factor mapping and freeing up human resources for strategic decision-making.We also discuss the importance of standardising data exchange to ensure consistent and comparable sustainability reporting. Jim emphasises that agreeing on standards is crucial for making meaningful progress and avoiding the pitfalls of fragmented efforts. Finally, we touch on the evolving role of the Chief Sustainability Officer and how sustainability is increasingly integrated into financial and operational planning. Jim offers advice to business leaders hesitant about committing to sustainability initiatives, stressing that while the best time to invest was a decade ago, the second-best time is now.I hope you'll find this episode insightful as we explore how technology, data, and collaborative efforts can drive meaningful progress in the fight against climate change.Check out SAP's Sustainability page for more.Support the showPodcast supportersI'd like to sincerely thank this podcast's amazing supporters: Lorcan Sheehan Jerry Sweeney Andreas Werner Stephen Carroll Roger Arnold And remember you too can Support the Podcast - it is really easy and hugely important as it will enable me to continue to create more excellent Climate Confident episodes like this one.ContactIf you have any comments/suggestions or questions for the podcast - get in touch via direct message on Twitter/LinkedIn. How seriously should governments take the threat of existential risk from AI, given the lack of consensus among researchers? On the one hand, existential risks (x-risks) are necessarily somewhat speculative: by the time there is concrete evidence, it may be too late. On the other hand, governments must prioritize — after all, they don't worry too much about x-risk from alien invasions. Gabriel Le Roux, Co-Founder & CEO, Primer Global enterprise merchants are increasingly recognising the role of payments in creating new commerce experiences, streamlining costs, and accelerating growth. However, the payments ecosystem has become too fragmented, opaque, and complex for businesses to manage, creating unnecessary costs and stifling that growth potential. A fragmented marketplace creates complexity, increasing costs when the whole idea should be to reduce them, allowing merchants to focus on growing their business and not on managing their payments infrastructure. Robin Amlôt of IBS Intelligence speaks to Gabriel Le Roux, Co-Founder and CEO of Primer.

Austroads has completed its update of Section 3: Inspection, Testing, Monitoring and Reporting of the Guide to Bridge Technology Part 7: Maintenance and Management of Existing Bridges. The project involved taking a fresh look at the inspection process to provide a flexible framework from which users of the Guide can develop and improve their own inspection processes. The project team undertook an assessment of Australian and New Zealand jurisdictions, as well as some international organisations. The assessment included reviewing the processes and practices and the uses of inspection data collected at each inspection level. This was followed up with a workshop with each individual jurisdiction. Practices varied across the jurisdictions from basic to advanced levels in terms of programming, data collection, and inspection processes. Similar observations were also made of the international practices assessed. The current practices were also assessed against the existing documentation to quantify gaps within the existing documentation. With the current range of complexities in systems, data requirements and processes, coupled with the intention of some jurisdictions to change existing practices, it was concluded that a flexible approach is needed within the revised inspection framework to enable varying jurisdictional needs to be accommodated. The fundamentals such as defining inspection types, components and component numbering are documented as a single approach, whilst for other sections, a risk-based framework will be adopted to allow flexibility, such as in assigning inspection timings. Key updates to the Guide include: Condition rating vs defect mapping, allowing flexibility to adopt positions between the two processes. Standardisation of bridge and culvert definition. A ‘Rosetta stone' of bridge componentisation, describing the nuances of the different jurisdictions. Standardisation of component rating descriptors. Reaffirming and refining inspection levels and inspection frequencies. Audit, quality control and inspector training. The webinar will be presented by Andy Ng and Paul Cannons.

Standardisation, depersonalisation, lack of emphasis on relationship and the impact this has on peoples health and wellness is often an obvious omission. Clinicians find ways of developing their practice to do what they can to close the gap. Listeners to Survival of the Kindest will be familiar with the Frome Model of enhanced primary care and compassionate communities and how this had a transformative impact on the whole population of Frome. This week's Survival of the Kindest podcast features Antoine Boivin and Ghislaine Rouly. Antoine is a practicing family physician and the Chairholder of the Canada Research Chair in Partnership with Patients and Communities. Working as a family physician in the community of Center-South Montreal, he completed his M.Sc. and Ph.D. in health services research in the United Kingdom and Netherlands. He found an excellent partner in Ghislaine Rouly, in bridging the gap between professional care and a more personalised, relationship approach. Ghislaine Rouly has been a patient since birth, living with two orphan genetic diseases. Ghislaine has always been working in the health sector and has acquired a unique level of experiential knowledge. For the past five years, at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Montreal, she has been working within the Patient Partnership Collaboration Directorate team, where patient partnership has become her passion. She participates in mentoring, ethics courses, the courses on collaborative practices and also sits on the expert patient committee.

Interview :

Personalised or Standardised? What is the base philosophy for Candidate Experience - do you attempt to give everyone the same branded experience, or do you vary it according to the individual and the individual circumstance? And if we do 'both' (I know you will say this!), then what are the circumstances when one approach makes sense and not the other? We will discuss - Types of Candidate - are all candidates the same? - Costs of CX, how do we measure the effort and the effect? - What are the benefits of improving CX? - Do we have any evidence of this, other than 'right thing to do'? - Why are recruiters reporting bad CX when they are looking for jobs - how much of a factor is how in-demand certain candidates are? - Do we need specialists in TA to run this? - How do we incentivise recruiters and managers to improve CX? - Do we know what candidates want? We're with Heidi Wassini, InHouse Consultant (CopenHagen Airports), Christine Ng, Head of Talent & Media (Quantum Motion), Sian Sidaway, Global Talent Experience Manager (GoCardless) & Gem Parker, Candidate Engagement Lead (EY) Ep191 is sponsored by our buddies Starred Starred is a Candidate Experience analytics platform that helps recruitment teams collect, analyze, benchmark, and act on candidate feedback at every stage of the recruitment process. Steve details the 21 benefits of having an Operations Manual in your business. Standard Operating Procedures are key to systemisation and are your method to more freedom and flexibility. Even if you have an Operations Manual already, check out this episode to see if there is any way you can improve it to gain all the benefits Steve outlines. KEY TAKEAWAYS With SOPs in place, you will retain staff by reducing their stress, reduce reliance on key individuals, simplify handover of procedures on personnel change, maintain quality and knowledge on staff absence or loss, increase consistency in quality, be able to take on less trained or experienced staff and employ internationally, and empower staff to work independently. By standardising the Operations Manual, you can direct your staff to detail their procedures in a certain format so you can achieve consistency in your documentation. You will be able to delegate quickly and effectively, be free from repeated staff enquiries, have more time for important tasks or leisure, enabling iterative improvement, scale up by easily delegating or employing more staff, reduce onboarding time and decrease training costs. Standardisation allows you to reliably meet your clients' expectations, reduces errors with checklists, increases creativity by simplifying mundane tasks and will increase the value of your business to a potential buyer or inheritor. EPISODE RESOURCE To access the SYS PROCESS to create the ideal Operations Manual, click the link below; Https://bit.ly/sys-006 BEST MOMENTS ‘Staff get stressed when they don't know what they need to do. They procrastinate, and stuff takes longer because they have to try and figure too much stuff out. They end up not hitting their targets and feeling undervalued because they're not performing at their best.' ‘The vast majority of the questions that I ever get asked have been asked. Because I've got an Operation Manual, I've been able to capture that question and the answer I'd given in the Operation Manual, and it will never be asked again.' ‘Once you've got stuff documented, you can get other people to do more of it. If you've got one area of your business that you realise is a bottleneck, get it documented and then put more resources on it.' ‘As somebody goes, that knowledge, you just see it walking out the door. Everything that is in that person's head I've paid for them to get.' ‘The Operations Manual would be doing the training for you, and that is massive in terms of reducing the opportunity cost of having to train somebody one to one.' In September 2021, the International Organisation for Standardisation (or ISO) published its first design and safety requirements for sex toys after a two-year project. The ISO project was kicked off by, today's guest, Swedish surgeon Dr Martin Dahlberg, who realised he was increasingly performing operations to remove sex toys lodged in people's rectums.Martin is a surgeon at the Södersjukhuset Hospital in Stockholm, Sweden. He got his medical degree back in 2011, and has performed several hundred surgical procedures throughout his career. Sprinkled amongst them are those that involve the removal of rectal foreign bodies. That is to say, Dahlberg has surgically freed a number of objects from a number of butts over the years. At times, he's even found himself in the position of operating on the same patient twice.Dahlberg began comparing notes with his colleagues. In January of 2019, they put together an academic study concerning the prevalence of retained sex toys among the Swedish population. They found that the number of incidences was on the rise, particularly among men. After reviewing a number of cases performed at his hospital, he found that the rectal insertion of vaginal toys was most commonly associated with major surgery. While people getting sex toys, and a wild plethora of things, stuck in their butts, has objective comical value, a rise in the issue raises interesting questions around education and regulation that ensures people's safety. Following the study, Dahlberg contacted the Swedish Standard Institute (SIS), a non-profit association that assists in developing standards across various industries. The aim was to add sex toys to the agenda.Following a two-year project, the standards have now been released. To comply with the new ISO standards, manufacturers of sex toys must use “body-safe” material in the event of contact with the genital and anal areas, use a design to minimise the risk of injury during reasonable and predictable use, and provide sufficient information to ensure people's safety. However, what effect do these standards have? Do sex toy companies even take the standards seriously?A statement from Lovehoney Group, the parent company behind We-Vibe and one of the manufacturers that helped develop the safety standard, says it is up to each country's regulators to enact laws to make the standard mandatory. So who should be responsible for ensuring the safety of consumers bodies? Governments? retailers? or should customers be responsible for doing their own research? The song: Jesus is gonna fix it – Matt Genese: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JAy0RR4D0YA The book: Christian Worship and Technological Change: Susan J. White Media Saturation * How is media influencing our congregational worship, teaching and preaching? * Competing ‘authorities' have multiplied in advertising and compete for our trust. * What is ‘good', ‘healthy', ‘effective'? * Broadcast services have led to greater predictability in worship. Standardisation is what viewers like – a formula that works for them and they know to expect and trust. * Megachurches have much in common: ‘strong authoritarian leadership, a predictable (if not invariable) pattern…' 117 * High technical standards, predictability, easy to follow, clear strong leadership. * Nothing new, but now more pervasive than ever because of media saturation. * Media has tried to convince us there is a ‘fix' for every problem. * Has this influenced how people, and leaders think about worship? Fixing it * Is our worship attempting to solve a problem, heal an ill, answer a question? * Are we in danger of providing worship that fixes people quickly, easily and without effort? * “For most participants, worship is judged by its ability to uplift, inspire, and console.” 118 * Instead of revealing God * How might this have influenced our teaching and preaching? How to * How many “How to…” lessons did Jesus teach? * ““This, then, is how you should pray:” (Matthew 6:9 NIV11) * But it is not a formula * How many “How to…” lessons have you taught recently? * ‘How to' helps us to know what we are trying to achieve * But must be about the development of Christian character * And God as the focus Please add your comments on this week's topic. Chinese is one of the oldest still-spoken languages in the world. But when technologies arrived like telegraphy and computing, designed with the Roman alphabet in mind, if Chinese wanted to be able to participate then it had to choose between adapting, or paying a heavy price. And sometimes both were inevitable. Jing Tsu, author of Kingdom of Characters: the Language Revolution that Made China Modern, recounts how Chinese contended with obstacles like alphabetisation, Romanisation and standardisation.
