POPULARITY

It's a great habit to build, but like any new habit, adding self-care into your life can seem kind of tricky. You probably wonder how you'll manage to find time to do anything extra for yourself, let alone how you'll actually remember to practice it.One of the best ways to get started is to build your activities into predictable parts of your day.In order to make something a habit, it has to happen regularly.

AJ has tried many methods to find—but most importantly maintain—the motivation to accomplish many of his long and short term goals. Over the years, he's struggled with setting goals and seeing them through, staying on task, or simply not feel overwhelmed by his tasks. When he's failed, he's riddled with feelings of guilt and disappointment, which overtime turn into depression and a sense of hopelessness. We're excited—and a little nervous—to talk to you about a new system that has truly made a big difference in the first week of implementation. Today, we're talking about a new app called Habitica. We hope this honest discussion about goals, failure, and perseverance, will inspire you to get back up, dust yourself off, and try a new approach.

Welcome to episode 86, which sees the long-awaited return of Pilar and a focus on habits. They represent a snapshot of our values in action and can be used to help us make valued changes in our behaviour. We discuss some of the pitfalls to avoid and some of the ways we can cultivate helpful habits. We can derail our personal development initiatives with goals that are too stretching or demanding, by starting with the unattainable and by a focus on goals that excludes what we’ll do once we reach that goal. Focusing on sustainable habits and the systems and processes for life they facilitate means we’re less likely to overreach and more likely to take some helpful action. Even if, as BJ Fogg writes, it’s in the form of a ‘tiny’ habit. Thanks for listening! Turns out we all have habits, that we're probably not even be aware of, that help us get on with... life! During a time when there is heaps of change and our routines are all out of whack (cue pandemic), it's pretty easy to break those helpful habits and replace them with helpful ones.
