Shawn Whitman is the Vice President of Membership and Guest Experience at Zoo Atlanta. With a background in exercise physiology, Shawn's career journey took him from the fitness industry to the world of zoos and aquariums, where he now oversees membership, admissions, rides, guest experience, and more. His role is crucial in ensuring that Zoo Atlanta provides an engaging and educational experience while fostering strong connections with guests and members. In this interview, Shawn talks about saying yes to everything, exercising guest experience muscles, and looking through the lens of the guest. Saying Yes to Everything "When I was newer in my career, I was just so eager to learn anything and everything that I could." Shawn attributes much of his career growth to his willingness to say yes to new opportunities. From his early days at the YMCA, where he took on multiple roles, to his expansion of responsibilities at Zoo Atlanta, Shawn's mindset of embracing new challenges has led to tremendous professional development. He believes that saying yes opens doors to learning, collaboration, and career advancement. Even when opportunities pushed him outside his comfort zone, his openness to new experiences helped him build expertise across various departments. This philosophy has also shaped his approach to leadership, where he encourages his team to be adaptable and open to growth. Exercising Guest Experience Muscles "Just like with exercise, you have to be consistent in your approach to guest experience, continually refining and improving." Drawing from his background in exercise physiology, Shawn makes a compelling connection between fitness and guest experience. Just as muscles need to be trained consistently to stay strong, organizations must continuously refine their guest experience strategies. At Zoo Atlanta, guest feedback is reviewed regularly to identify opportunities for improvement. Shawn emphasizes the importance of tracking patterns in visitor feedback, much like tracking fitness progress, and adjusting strategies accordingly. Whether it's enhancing signage, improving wayfinding, or refining service training, his approach ensures that the guest experience remains dynamic and evolving. Looking Through the Lens of the Guest "I visit the zoo in incognito mode to see it exactly as a guest does." Shawn makes a habit of walking through Zoo Atlanta as an ordinary visitor, removing his name tag and observing interactions firsthand. This approach allows him to see potential pain points in the guest journey and make necessary adjustments. Whether it's noticing which areas guests tend to overlook, observing how they navigate the park, or hearing their feedback in an unfiltered way, this strategy provides invaluable insights. He also emphasizes the importance of knowing when to engage with guests and when to step back, ensuring that their experience is both immersive and uninterrupted. Shawn encourages his team to adopt this mindset, ensuring that every decision made prioritizes the visitor's perspective. By aligning guest experience improvements with the zoo's mission, his team fosters stronger connections between visitors and conservation efforts.   Shawn can be reached on LinkedIn. Wayne Christian of the TX RRC (arguably the top oil & gas regulatory body on earth) returns to the show to sound the alarm on the latest attack on America' energy dominance. New EPA regulations could put 80% of American oil and gas producers out of business. This is an existential threat.  Certain politicians and bureaucrats seem intent on taking away oil, gas, coal, and nuclear production, ensuring our dependence on hostile foreign regimes. Every move to cripple North American energy production is a move to strengthen and enrich petro-state dictators who will pick up our market share and will do nothing to control the climate in a world where oil is still the #1 traded commodity - by a long shot. The U.S. supplied over 70% of the fuel to the allies that won the first two world wars, but will not be able to do so in a future WW3 if the regulators have their way. We will also lose 8% of our GDP and the only path forward to pay off our national debt. We cannot afford to get this wrong. - - - - - Jacki is joined by Harvard M.B.A. and author John Whitmore Jenkins to discuss his new book laying out the roadmap to take the country back from cowardly, incompetent bureaucrats:  Looking Through a Glass Darkly: Divided American and the Gathering Storm. In Pink Floyd-like style, Jenkins crafts an allegory comparing our failed leadership to the Wizard of Oz, specifically individuals lacking the brains, heart, and courage to lead. The good news is that he supplies the remedy in a chapter titled, “Dorothy's Magic Shoes and the U.S. Constitution.”

Episode 13 ('unlucky for some') marks the week after the new FFAR (FIFA Football Agent Regulations) were scheduled to come 'fully into force'. We are joined by a former FIFA regulator who now works in private practice advising many top clubs, players, agents and leagues on a breadth of regulatory matters. Paolo Lombardi brings with him a unique perspective, a depth of knowledge and an 'inside track' on the world of football agent regulations - we look with him at the past, present and (possible) future of football agent regulations. Also this week, we have updates on the development of NFAR (National Football Agent Regulations) by national football associations from around the world; whilst another National Association looks to 'scrap' its pioneering 'clearing house' for football agent payments. And whilst one FIFA resource for agents poses the question of why some newly licensed FIFA Football Agents seem to have gone missing (with gremlins the prime suspects), we also have a look at a new tool for agents to assist in the creation of compliant football agent representation agreements. Welcome back to Outlook in 2022. We may be recording from home once again, as COVID-19 and specifically Omicron are prominent right now in Ontario, Canada, but we are nothing if not flexible. On the first new show of this new year, we begin by emphasizing why we (two blind siblings who've had organ transplants) are once again mostly isolating while this latest surge crests. We know what it's like to be in ICU, to have the other there, and this is our generation's world war, with the healthcare and essential workers as the soldiers, and we, once more, make our declaration on what we all need to do to work together on this to lighten the load for hospitals. We share a bit about our family's Christmas, a Christmas and New Year's that did not go as planned this year, with Covid finally getting a foothold with our loved ones. We had to alter holiday plans this time and again we made the best of it, but we're glad to be back for a whole new year of this podcast. We discuss those who've passed away in recent weeks: Desmond Tutu, Betty White, Sidney Poitierr, all legends in the things they achieved and the mark they all made, whether it was speaking out on homophobia in religion or the representation of women on the small screen or racial progress on the big. Right down to the loss of a musician, from PEI and band The East Pointers, Koady Chaisson, co-host Kerry's own age, gone too soon. From social justice and progress, to the entertainment and music world. In White's case, we air an old and forgotten commercial starring Betty as a blind woman, explaining to an ignorant cab driver why a guide dog is permitted in his cab, totally worth the listen. Also, it's January and we never let this first month of each new year go by without acknowledging braille and its importance in our lives and for the freedom and empowerment of blind people. This past weekend it was the first of four online events put on by Braille Literacy Canada (BLC), the Canadian Council of the Blind (CCB), the CNIB Foundation, the Centre for Equitable Library Access (CELA), the National Network for Equitable Library Service (NNELS), and the Provincial Resource Centre for the Visually Impaired (PRCVI). The first of these events to be held was a panel entitled Looking Through the Crystal Ball: Innovations in Braille Technology for the 21st Century and Beyond and those on this panel represented a broad range of ages and backgrounds, but all recalling the braille technologies they remember fondly, those they use most now, and what they'd like to see in the future including more durable devices. Even subjects such as tactile graphics were discussed at length. So join us as we take Outlook into 2022 to see what we get up to, starting with a blog post/interview with BookNet Canada which was published on January 4th, inventor Louis Braille's birthday: https://www.booknetcanada.ca/blog/2022/1/4/how-to-improve-braille-accessibility-in-canada For more information on Braille Literacy Month and to register for the events discussed on this show: https://nnels.ca/world-braille-day BLC on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCTmbEZuyVkV49OOo3SZ4c_g Check out Wintergreen by The East Pointers: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P05YtS75gR4 And the Betty White commercial can be found here: https://www.seeingeye.org/assets/mp3/betty-white-taxi-cab-psa.mp3

"A vague curling mist suddenly crept along the edges of her vision. Oh, no, not again!"  Quote from Looking Through the Mist  Looking Through the Mist was written by Rebbeca J. Vickery. This book is considered a mystery, an adventure, a romance, and a paranormal thriller. The main character, Jessica Wilder, has psychic abilities. She has used this gift to consult with the FBI to solve cases that involve children for the past 6 years. Bob Strickland was the first FBI agent to believe and trust in Jessica's visions. Once he retired, she began a new life working as an illustrator for children's books. While eating at a diner, she had a vision that would change everything. She had to take a leap of faith and report her vision to the local authorities. She met a detective, Johanthan Lansing, who would support her in solving a case. For once in her life, Jessica accepts her psychic visions as a gift and apart of who she is. Her visions are no longer considered a burden. The love between Johnathan and Jessica grows as they solve the case together. The author, Rebbeca J. Vickery, has a writing style that allows the readers to visualize the charisma the two main characters share. Rebbeca has stated that "The books that I write have traditional romance themes with ironic twists and usually tales in the style of Edgar Allen Poe and Alfred Hitchcock." After reading, Looking Through the Mist" I can't agree more with this statement! The podcast also features a true intuitive medium/psychic investigator, Troy Griffin. You can find "Looking Through the Mist" on Amazon or on Lulu.com. Questions: mohenderson2525@gmail.com "WHAT IS YOUR STORY?"

I imagine you are living in a cascade right now and don't even know it. It happens subtly. What is a cascade? It is an automatic response to any stimulus that does not line up with the truth of who you are in Christ. This and the sermon "Looking Through" have similar themes. Listen to both back to back.
