Last week, Ottawa announced a year for shovels to hit the ground for its long-awaited high-speed rail line connecting Toronto to Quebec City. Beginning in 2029, construction will be starting for the line's first rail segment, connecting Montreal to Ottawa via 200km worth of tracks. But both the government and the Crown corporation overseeing the project, Alto, have admitted they haven't quite nailed down an exact (or rough estimate) of a dollar figure attached to helping the rail line come to fruition.Host Alan Carter speaks to Ryan-Katz Rosene, associate professor at the University of Ottawa who studies sustainable transportation, to discuss if this announcement will actually make waves in this high-speed rail coming to life, or if Canadians will be stuck in limbo for more decades to come. The massacre of Jews by muslim jihadists at Bondi Beach is a tragic warning — will Canada be next?

Tonight on The Ezra Levant Show, Ezra delivers a stark warning after the horrific terrorist massacre at Sydney's iconic Bondi Beach. During a public Hanukkah celebration attended by many local Australian Jewish families, two Muslim migrants — a father and son from Pakistan — opened fire, murdering at least 16 people and wounding dozens more. It was the deadliest anti-Jewish terror attack Australia has seen in decades — and it didn't happen in a war zone, but in one of the world's most peaceful, beautiful cities. This massacre was not an isolated incident, but rather the predictable result of years of government policies allowing Jew hatred in the streets. But it wasn't just the pro-Hamas protests that brought Australia to the point of murdering Jews, lighting a menorah. It was also more universal policies, the type of politics that Canada knows all too well: • Mass, unvetted immigration from extremist regions • Political and media tolerance for open Hamas support • Laws that disarm law-abiding citizens while empowering criminals • Police and politicians who refuse to name Islamist terror for what it is Australia, like Canada, has aligned itself symbolically with Hamas, refused to crack down on extremist networks, and criminalized self-defence — leaving Jewish communities exposed and undefended. Instead of confronting Islamic extremism, Australia's leaders are already blaming “right-wing extremism” and calling for more gun control. So, we have to ask: if these conditions produced a massacre in Sydney, why wouldn't they produce one in Toronto, Montreal, or Ottawa? This episode is a warning — not just for Jews, but for all Canadians, Brits, and Americans in the Western world. If a country refuses to change direction, it will eventually arrive at its destination. Listen to tonight's episode to understand what just happened in Australia — and why Canada may be closer than we think.

There's been a lot going on in Quebec politics this year while many of us may have had our eye on the Canada-US relations. The Quebec government has been under fire for its policies on doctors, on secularism, on a new constitution, and more. The new leader of the opposition Quebec Liberals is under heavy pressure to resign. And the Parti Quebecois, which many had written off, is now talking about winning the next election in October, and promising a referendum when it does. We talk to Emilie Nicolas, a columnist for Le Devoir in Montreal, and Valérie Gaudreau, a political columnist for Le Soleil in Quebec City about the future of Quebec politics, and its impact for Canada.

Fifteen people, including a 10-year-old girl, were killed in a shooting targeting the country's Jewish community at a Hanukkah event on Sydney's Bondi Beach over the weekend. In response, Montreal Mayor Soraya Martinez Ferrada has asked police to increase security after the attack, and the SPVM say they will remain on heightened alert. A group of language experts says the federal government is sending the wrong signal by slipping into British spelling in official documents — including the 2025 budget. Snow removal operations for the first big snow dump of the year are wrapping up, and one thing has become clear under the new administration: Bike paths are not the priority anymore. Welcome to episode #1014 of Thinking With Mitch Joel (formerly Six Pixels of Separation). At a moment when careers feel increasingly precarious and algorithms quietly dictate how value is created and captured, it's worth learning from someone who has spent more than two decades helping creators and entrepreneurs reclaim ownership of their work and their futures. Joe Pulizzi is the founder of multiple influential startups, including Content Marketing Institute, The Tilt, the Content Entrepreneur Expo and is widely recognized as the person who first coined the term "content marketing" in 2001, long before it became an industry unto itself. A bestselling author of seven books, including Epic Content Marketing and Content Inc., Joe has helped shape how organizations and individuals think about audience building, trust, and long-term value creation, earning the Content Council's Lifetime Achievement Award for his impact on the field. After successfully exiting Content Marketing Institute in 2016, he expanded his creative range by writing the award-winning mystery novel The Will To Die, while continuing to host two long-running podcasts, including This Old Marketing, the longest-running marketing news podcast in the world. His latest book, Burn The Playbook: How Creators And Entrepreneurs Escape The 9–5 And Build Businesses That Last, serves as the catalyst for this conversation and reflects a deeply personal mission inspired by his children: to help people stop renting their futures and start building assets they truly own. In the discussion, Joe explores the evolution of content and audience strategy, the underestimated power of repetition in building trust, the growing importance of individual creators over faceless brands, and why human connection matters more than ever in this AI-accelerated world. He also addresses the role of paid promotion, the practical integration of AI into creative work, and why serving a clearly defined audience remains the most durable path to meaning, freedom, and sustainable wealth. In this episode, we look at the story of a young boy who found purpose working for the DC Metro and later became a transportation engineer, and we examine a proposal for the U.S. to screen tourists' social media accounts before entry, highlighting the logistical and constitutional problems such a system would create. We cover the week's “foolishness,” including In-N-Out removing order number 67 from its queues and a Montreal lottery winner who chose a disastrous payout option, and discuss what these cases reveal about human judgment and bad incentives. We also explore the Mandela Effect and why memory often fails us. Later, we're joined by Todd Huntley to talk about U.S. drug interdiction on the high seas, the legal gray zone between warfare and law enforcement, the risks of escalating conflicts with countries like Venezuela, and the constitutional limits on presidential war powers. 00:00 Introduction and Overview 00:30 The DC Metro Kid Who Became an Engineer 02:44 U.S. Plans to Screen Tourists' Social Media 05:43 Foolishness of the Week: In-N-Out Removes Order #67 08:10 Foolishness Part Two: The Montreal Lottery Payout Disaster 11:16 The Psychology of Bad Financial Decisions 12:34 The Mandela Effect and Faulty Memory 14:36 Reunions and Remembering the Past 18:24 Guest Introduction: Todd Huntley on Drug Boat Strikes 20:16 How U.S. Drug Interdiction Changed with Drone Warfare 23:08 Is This War or Law Enforcement? Lynda Quirino has been in the paranormal field for 44 years, and has experienced unexplained phenomena all of her life. At 18 years of age, she began to investigate the paranormal while at Vanier college in her hometown of Montreal, and also during her years at McGill University. She continued to research and investigate on her own until relocating to the Toronto area in 1986. From 1986 to 1996, she continued to work primarily on her own, investigating local hauntings and paranormal issues until, in 1997, she became the Assistant Director of the Toronto Ghosts and Hauntings Research Society. Lynda left the TGHRS in 2003, and once again worked “freelance” in the field, concentrating on investigating and researching local cases. After giving a presentation on ghosts and hauntings at the local library in Georgina, Ontario, the town where she now resides, Lynda realized that the need for a paranormal team was very much needed. In 2012, she founded The Georgina Paranormal Society. Currently, Lynda is the Executive Director of the Georgina Paranormal Society, and appears on the television show “Paranormal Survivor” as one of its paranormal experts. She has appeared on many paranormal podcasts, radio, and local television shows, currently hosting a weekly cable lifestyle show “Georgina Life” in her now hometown of Georgina, Ontario, Canada. She is also the co-host of a weekly YouTube show entitled “Paranormally Speaking”, and has been featured in the book “I Want to Believe: An Investigators' Archive” by Jason Hewlett & Peter Renn. Lynda also lectures and gives presentations on the paranormal for various organizations throughout Canada.

How to Handle Low-Budget Clients with Grace - RD356

Welcome to Resourceful Designer! I'm Mark, your host, and today, I want to share a powerful story that brilliantly illustrates how to handle price negotiations with grace while standing firm in your professional worth. Like many designers, I've encountered those budget conversations that can make your heart sink, the ones where a promising client comes in, but their budget just doesn't match the value you know you can deliver. In this episode, I reflect on an invaluable lesson I learned from a fellow designer I met years ago in Montreal. He went from being the "affordable option" to becoming the designer that clients saw as an investment, not just a cost. I'll guide you through a practical email template that turns a rejection into an opportunity, educating your clients and setting the stage for future collaboration, all while maintaining your standards and building relationships, not burning bridges. We'll explore how shifting your mindset from being everywhere and shouting the loudest about your services to positioning yourself as a valued, trusted advisor can radically transform the way clients perceive and treat you. I'll share concrete, actionable steps to help you build a professional response system for low-budget inquiries, foster goodwill in your network, and keep the door open to better clients in the future. If you want to learn how to gracefully say "no" without compromising your worth, and even turn those "no's" into long-term opportunities, you'll love today's episode. Let's dive in and redefine how we handle low-budget clients, together. Get the email template I talk about in this episode here
