The Power of “Yes, And” in ArchitectureArchitecture is a team sport, and strong communication often matters as much as strong design. In this episode, we explore how improv in architecture can help architects become better leaders, collaborators, and problem-solvers in their daily practice.Tarrah Beebe, partner at KFA Architecture, shares her journey from architect to improv performer and explains how the principles of improvisation have shaped the way she leads projects and works with teams. Along the way, she reflects on lessons learned managing community-based projects, navigating uncertainty, and building trust through better communication. We also discuss how architects can become more comfortable taking risks, staying present in difficult conversations, and embracing adaptability in their firms. As a result, Tarrah offers a refreshing perspective on how creativity outside the office can directly improve leadership, culture, and long-term success inside architecture practice. This week at EntreArchitect Podcast, The Power of “Yes, And” in Architecture with Tarrah Beebe. Can you build a robot the same way you vibe code software? Not even close. In this episode of KP Unpacked, KP Reddy and Nick sit down with Guy German, CEO of Okibo, to unpack why programming motion control got 10x easier but building robots still requires years of field testing. Guy breaks down the three requirements for general-purpose construction robots: physical capability (reach, payload, battery life), tool flexibility (spray guns, rollers, power tools, dust collectors), and intelligence (real-time perception, work plan generation). Humanoids fail all three for construction. Chinese robots require pre-fitted BIM data that doesn't exist in reality. Okibo deploys on messy job sites with no prep, no perfect drawings, just LiDAR and situational awareness. The conversation moves from why construction has the highest suicide rate (cognitive overload plus physical toll) to why workers retire with permanent damage after 30 years (carpal syndrome, can't bend arms from overhead work). Guy shares a story: a veteran worked with Okibo robots for one week during a pilot. When it ended, he begged to keep the robot. His health improved that much. The insight? This isn't about productivity. It's about safety and empathy to the worker. Then they tackle why VCs forgot the venture part of venture capital. If you're showing a hardware prototype and the VC asks about traction, leave the meeting. They've disqualified themselves.Key questions answered:Can you vibe code a robot the same way you vibe code software? What are the three requirements for general-purpose construction robots? Why do humanoids fail all three requirements for construction work? How is the Chinese construction robotics approach different from Okibo's?Why does construction have the highest suicide rate of any industry? What happens to workers' bodies after 30 years of overhead drywall work? Why did a veteran beg to keep the Okibo robot after a one-week pilot? What's Okibo's data advantage from deploying across 3M square feet? Why is skilled labor shortage real (and getting worse)? What should you do if a VC asks for traction on a hardware prototype? Why is the capital stack the biggest impediment to construction robotics? Is physical AI the biggest technology wave of our lifetime? If you're building hardware and getting asked about traction, wondering whether robots can work without perfect BIM models, or trying to understand why safety and worker empathy matter more than productivity metrics, this episode will show you why the physical world is messier than code, and why that's exactly where the opportunity lives.Listen now.
Building an AI Ready Architecture FirmBuilding an AI ready architecture firm is quickly becoming one of the most important challenges facing architects today. In this episode of the EntreArchitect Podcast, Michelle Hamilton shares how firms can move beyond simply experimenting with AI and begin building real systems for long-term success. Drawing from decades in architecture and enterprise AI, she explains why successful adoption always starts with people.Michelle spent more than 30 years in commercial real estate and the AEC industry before stepping into the world of enterprise AI. Through her work leading AI adoption at AnswerRocket, she saw a pattern repeat itself: companies invest heavily in technology, but fail to prepare teams to actually use it. As a result, even powerful tools often fall short of their potential.Michelle shares practical insights for architecture firm owners who want to embrace AI with confidence. She explains how small firms can improve workflows, create stronger internal processes, and foster innovation without feeling overwhelmed. She shows how thoughtful adoption can help firms stay competitive as the future of practice continues to evolve. This week at EntreArchitect Podcast, Building an AI Ready Architecture Firm with Michelle Hamilton. Was nicht gerade optimistisch macht.

Avoiding Costly Miscommunication in Architecture: Clearer Client Communication with Usman YaqubJon Clayton hosts Architecture Business Club with guest Usman Yaqub, president of the Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologists and director at Studio Yaqub Architecture, to discuss how miscommunication and technical jargon damage projects and client relationships. Usman explains that clients, contractors, planners, engineers, and consultants view the same project through different lenses—emotional investment, buildability and program, or compliance and policy—so communication must be adapted to what “success” means for each audience and to reduce “scope canyons” between silos. He shares examples where stakeholders misunderstood milestones and where “planning approval” was wrongly assumed to mean ready-to-build, stressing the need to confirm understanding. Practical tactics include using relatable explanations, storytelling, and visual tools like drawings, BIM, and visualisations, plus framing meetings to invite questions.Today's GuestUsman Yaqub is the current President of The Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologists & Director at Studio Yaqub Architecture. He's an Associate Lecturer at The University of the West of England and holds positions with a number of charities and not for profit organisations. A client cares about how it will change their life. A contractor cares about how to build it. A planner cares about rules and policy. When you understand what matters to each person, you can talk to them in a way that makes sense for them — and things go much more smoothly.Simple words show more skill than big onesUsing jargon might make you feel clever, but it can leave people confused and too embarrassed to say so. The real skill is taking something complex and explaining it in plain language. If someone walks away understanding you, that is a much better result than if they walk away impressed but lost.Good communication means checking understanding, not just sharing informationSaying something clearly is only half the job. You also need to make sure the other person has understood it the same way you meant it. Watch for small signs — hesitation, odd questions, or repeated words — that tell you there may be a gap. Ask "what questions do you have?" instead of "do you have any questions?" to give people a proper chance to speak up.—Subscribe on YouTube (for upcoming video episodes!)
Recorded live at the Vertical Design Build Summit 2025, Dillon Mitchell delivers a presentation on AI, BIM automation, and the future of construction. He shares how his firm built automation tools that can place thousands of devices in a 320,000 sq ft building in minutes instead of months, why the labor shortage means technology adoption is no longer optional, and how to actually implement AI and automation without waiting for perfection. Dillon also breaks down a simple three-step system for training your team — record, watch, review — and makes the case that the real competitive advantage in construction isn't just the tools you use, but teaching your people how to think.
The Room That Changes EverythingIn this solo session of the EntreArchitect Podcast, Mark R. LePage explores the room that changes everything and why mastermind groups can be a powerful catalyst for growth. Many architects build their firms in isolation, carrying challenges alone and making important decisions without trusted peers. Mark explains how a small group of committed professionals can provide clarity, accountability, and encouragement when it matters most.He shares how mastermind groups create a space for honest conversations and meaningful feedback. As a result, architects gain confidence, solve problems faster, and uncover opportunities they may have otherwise missed. Through consistent connection and mutual support, these groups help members grow both personally and professionally. Most importantly, Mark reveals why success is rarely a solo journey. Instead, lasting progress often comes from surrounding yourself with people who challenge and inspire you. Gary responds to an article published by Baptist News written by Mara Richards Bim about the recent report released by President Trump's Justice Department. Bim is very selective in her reporting, and what she will accept as "historical evidence" (it must come from a PhD "expert"), and discounts many Christian writers for their lack of doctorates, yet never deals with their actual claims. Gary points out her own historical ignorance. Read the article here: https://baptistnews.com/article/anti-christian-bias-report-exalts-calvinism-and-lies-as-normative/

Drywall prefabrication is still in its growth phase. In this episode of Prefab, Unfiltered, recorded live at Advancing Prefabrication, Todd Weyandt sits down with Kiryl Turbal to explore how drywall prefab can scale through tighter BIM workflows, better coordination, and a value stream mindset. While electrical and mechanical trades have matured in prefabrication, drywall remains an evolving space. Success depends on treating prefab operations as strategic value streams, aligning design and field teams earlier, and acknowledging the real time required for coordination. This conversation dives into BIM-to-fabrication workflows, communication gaps between modelers and foremen, the role of repetition in building maturity, and how AI and data security may influence future drywall prefab operations. If you are involved in prefabrication, drywall construction, BIM coordination, modular construction, or industrialized building strategies, this episode offers practical insight into scaling an emerging prefab trade. You'll Learn Why drywall prefabrication requires a value stream mindset How BIM-to-fabrication workflows can improve drywall productivity Why coordination takes longer than most schedules allow The communication gaps between modelers and field crews How repetition and documented lessons drive prefab maturity Where drywall prefab stands compared to electrical and mechanical trades Meet Our Guest Kiryl Turbal is Prefabrication Project Manager at TG McCorkney, where he focuses on drywall prefabrication and BIM-driven construction workflows. With a background in structural engineering and more than a decade in design, he brings technical rigor and process discipline to prefab operations. His work centers on improving coordination, tightening BIM-to-fabrication processes, and building scalable workflows that support drywall prefab growth. Todd Takes Treat Prefabrication as a Value Stream, Not a Cost Center. Prefab operations should be measured by throughput and value creation, not overhead. When leadership treats drywall prefab as strategic, scale becomes possible. Coordination Always Takes Longer Than We Admit. BIM-to-fabrication workflows require time and discipline. When coordination is compressed unrealistically, friction follows. Prefab maturity requires honest scheduling. Repetition Builds Maturity. Drywall prefabrication is still evolving. Capturing lessons learned and standardizing workflows creates repeatability and long-term scale. More Resources Thanks for listening!
