The Room That Changes EverythingIn this solo session of the EntreArchitect Podcast, Mark R. LePage explores the room that changes everything and why mastermind groups can be a powerful catalyst for growth. Many architects build their firms in isolation, carrying challenges alone and making important decisions without trusted peers. Mark explains how a small group of committed professionals can provide clarity, accountability, and encouragement when it matters most.He shares how mastermind groups create a space for honest conversations and meaningful feedback. As a result, architects gain confidence, solve problems faster, and uncover opportunities they may have otherwise missed. Through consistent connection and mutual support, these groups help members grow both personally and professionally. Most importantly, Mark reveals why success is rarely a solo journey. Instead, lasting progress often comes from surrounding yourself with people who challenge and inspire you. Tune in to learn how the right room, filled with the right people, can transform your business, strengthen your leadership, and change your life. This week at EntreArchitect Podcast Solo Sessions, The Room That Changes Everything.

Drywall prefabrication is still in its growth phase. In this episode of Prefab, Unfiltered, recorded live at Advancing Prefabrication, Todd Weyandt sits down with Kiryl Turbal to explore how drywall prefab can scale through tighter BIM workflows, better coordination, and a value stream mindset. While electrical and mechanical trades have matured in prefabrication, drywall remains an evolving space. Success depends on treating prefab operations as strategic value streams, aligning design and field teams earlier, and acknowledging the real time required for coordination. This conversation dives into BIM-to-fabrication workflows, communication gaps between modelers and foremen, the role of repetition in building maturity, and how AI and data security may influence future drywall prefab operations. If you are involved in prefabrication, drywall construction, BIM coordination, modular construction, or industrialized building strategies, this episode offers practical insight into scaling an emerging prefab trade. You'll Learn Why drywall prefabrication requires a value stream mindset How BIM-to-fabrication workflows can improve drywall productivity Why coordination takes longer than most schedules allow The communication gaps between modelers and field crews How repetition and documented lessons drive prefab maturity Where drywall prefab stands compared to electrical and mechanical trades Meet Our Guest Kiryl Turbal is Prefabrication Project Manager at TG McCorkney, where he focuses on drywall prefabrication and BIM-driven construction workflows. With a background in structural engineering and more than a decade in design, he brings technical rigor and process discipline to prefab operations. His work centers on improving coordination, tightening BIM-to-fabrication processes, and building scalable workflows that support drywall prefab growth. Todd Takes Treat Prefabrication as a Value Stream, Not a Cost Center. Prefab operations should be measured by throughput and value creation, not overhead. When leadership treats drywall prefab as strategic, scale becomes possible. Coordination Always Takes Longer Than We Admit. BIM-to-fabrication workflows require time and discipline. When coordination is compressed unrealistically, friction follows. Prefab maturity requires honest scheduling. Repetition Builds Maturity. Drywall prefabrication is still evolving. Capturing lessons learned and standardizing workflows creates repeatability and long-term scale. More Resources Thanks for listening! Why does the architecture profession have a technology adoption problem that has almost nothing to do with technology? This week on Practice Disrupted, Evelyn sits down with Melvin Williams III, a Digital Practice Leader at HKS, to explore the underlying machinery of firm transformation. Melvin shares his unconventional path from being a trainee at the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, where he first viewed architecture as a single component within a massive operational system, to founding his own consulting firm and eventually leading digital strategy at one of the world's largest architecture practices. Together, they discuss why the real barrier to innovation isn't the software we use, but the leadership and culture required to sustain it.The conversation dives deep into the "messy" reality of digital transformation. Melvin reflects on his years as a consultant at Microdesk, where he observed that while firms are often fluent in project execution, they struggle with the "bridge building" needed to evolve their business models. He challenges the industry's historical reliance on 2D artifact production and explains why technology should be viewed as operational leverage rather than just an overhead expense. By shifting the focus from BIM libraries to system-level thinking, Melvin illustrates how firms can move past the "horse and buggy" mentality to embrace a more integrated, data-driven future."Architecture can't really remain centered on artifact production. It has to evolve towards system level thinking about delivery. And when you do that, you start to see that the advantage is going to belong to firms that can design both buildings and the mechanisms by which those buildings are delivered. And that's digital practice, right?" - Melvin Williams IIIThis episode is an essential look at the soft skills required to drive hard changes in AEC. Melvin shares the hard-earned lessons from his own entrepreneurial journey, including the importance of "failing fast", and how those experiences shaped his approach to mentoring leadership on tech adoption. Whether you are a firm leader trying to justify a technology budget or a technologist looking to move from the "help desk" to the board room, this discussion provides a roadmap for building the organizational clarity that makes adoption actually stick.Guest:Melvin Williams III is a Digital Practice Leader at HKS, where he focuses on building the internal culture and systems necessary for true digital transformation. With a career spanning the Port Authority of NY and NJ, his own consulting practice, and years as a specialist at Microdesk, Melvin brings a systems-design perspective to the architecture profession. He is a dedicated advocate for rethinking how technology can strategically align and empower architecture firms. This episode is especially for you if:✅ You are a firm leader struggling to move beyond "traditional" workflows and want to understand the cultural barriers to tech adoption.✅ You are a technologist who feels like "overhead" and wants to learn how to communicate your value as a strategic business partner.✅ You are curious about the difference between project execution and systems design in a large-scale practice.✅ You want to hear an honest perspective on why many digital transformation efforts fail when the "third-party" consultants leave.✅ You are interested in how early career exposure to infrastructure and government agencies can reshape a designer's understanding of buildings. What have you done to take action lately? Bringing Cost Clarity to Renovation for Owners and ArchitectsBringing cost clarity to renovation for owners and architects begins with a childhood in darkness. Michael Sweebe grew up in an illegal apartment in Toledo, Ohio, with no operable windows and little light. At nine years old, he began drawing floor plans, hoping to design a better life for his single mom. That instinct to bring light into dark spaces shaped his thirty-year career as an architect. However, over time, Michael saw a painful pattern. Homeowners spent thousands on drawings before they understood true construction costs. As a result, many projects stalled, savings disappeared, and trust was broken. Even when the design was strong, the system failed families who needed clarity first. Therefore, Michael stepped away from traditional practice to build Scopify. The platform delivers hyper-local cost intelligence and scope definition before owners commit to design or construction. In this conversation, he challenges architects to rethink how they serve and shows how cost clarity can rebuild trust. Ultimately, this episode reframes renovation as an enlightened journey, not a financial gamble. This week at EntreArchitect Podcast, Bringing Cost Clarity to Renovation for Owners and Architects with Michael Sweebe.
