Lindsay gets to the root of where our limiting beliefs about ourselves come from: trauma from early childhood into early adulthood. She explains how these thoughts formed out of negative experiences when our brains are still developing, and how we can follow three simple steps to overcoming and rewriting them so that we can develop the lives we truly want for ourselves.    Show Notes: -What are limiting beliefs (or as Lindsay calls them, “old/overused pathways”) and why does our brain form them?  -What do limiting beliefs stand in the way of and how do they affect both our physical realities and our subconscious minds? -Step one: Becoming aware of the belief. “Is my brain trying to protect me?” -An example of an overused pathway: perfectionism -The two things (or basics needs) our brains are instinctually trying to accomplish by forming limiting beliefs: survival and protection -Our limiting beliefs are usually formed in childhood, before our prefrontal cortexes are fully developed and before we can properly access proper reasoning and decision making; they are a survival response -We can find versions of our current limiting beliefs in our childhood selves. Tools  for awareness: “When was one of the first times this survival response showed up in my life?” “How does this limiting belief show up in my life today?” -Step two: Accepting that you have these limiting beliefs  -Asking yourself if these beliefs align with who you want to become and the life you want to live (the answer will be no!); then, realizing you need to move to step three  -Step three: Modeling a new way of being to yourself    -Resources: -Click here to sign up for the Reboot Waitlist -Visit the Vital-Side Homepage here -Lindsay's Instagram: @myvitalside -Visit Lindsay's Website -Cait's Instagram: @caitrossco -Visit Cait's Website Join our community: bit.ly/rewirethepodcast Podcast disclaimer can be found by visiting: bit.ly/rewiredisclaimer

Happy Satiated Saturday! It's truly amazing how many body based healing modalities are out there now. I've been involved in the somatic world way before somatics was "in" and cool. Most of my family probably thought I was going into some fake psychotherapy degree, but as soon as I read the description of the classes, I knew that was the path for me. I came in to my somatic psychotherapy program loudly declaring I was going to be the one who combines somatics and nutrition. And now, I see others doing this more and more. It's wonderful that so many practitioners are learning about and infusing somatic work into their practices and it can also feel overwhelming with all the suggestions out there. This is why I'm excited for you to listen to today's podcast episode with a practitioner who has been diving into and teaching brain retraining and nervous system regulation also before it exploded in popularity the past few years. In this week's episode, I chat with Lindsay Mitchell, PA-C, Brain Retraining Coach and the founder & CEO of Vital-Side, about what brain retraining is, how food sensitivities can have nothing to do with the food itself, and brain retraining exercises. We break things down in this episode into bite sized pieces of practical actions you can explore to step into a different relationship with food. You can also read the transcript to this week's episode  here: https://www.stephaniemara.com/blog/healing-food-sensitivities-and-fear-of-food-with-brain-retrainingMany of the things we discussed today are also explored in the Somatic Eating® Program. Having dealt with chronic Lyme disease herself, Lindsay found that the common practices used to treat it were limited. She began focusing her efforts on retraining her brain to get out of a constant state of fight-or-flight and into growth-and-repair mode. This set her body up for success, making it possible for her to make a full recovery. Shortly after her recovery from Lyme disease, Lindsay completed her training in neurolinguistic programming (NLP), the emotional freedom technique (EFT), and thought field therapy (TFT) modalities. This training, in addition to her background in internal medicine as a physician assistant, and her experience with Lyme disease makes Lindsay uniquely qualified to assist others in learning how to shift their response and experience positive changes to their symptoms. Over the past five years, Lindsay has worked with thousands of people from all over the world, teaching them about the healing properties of the brain and giving them the tools needed to access their natural resilience through practical, self-directed, and science forward neuroplasticity techniques.

Are you wanting to set intentions rather than resolutions for the new year? With 2023 right around the corner, Lindsay and Cait talk about ways to avoid falling off the New Year's resolution bandwagon come February by not only setting specific intentions that resonate with your goals, but also by addressing your current environment, distinguishing the difference between instinct and intuition, and tapping into the idea of what you THINK you should have. Show Notes: - Resolution vs. Intention: resolution - a firm decision to do something; intention - a determination to act in a certain way to achieve an aim or goal - How setting intentions (instead of resolutions) can allow us more flexibility and adaptability - Reflecting & taking inventory on the year you just had - Ask yourself: “Who do I want to be next year?” - Lindsay's process: drawing pictures, visuals, and words to take inventory of her last year to get focus & clarity on who she is and where she's going - Every year, our process of reflection can look very different, we can evolve this process as we continue to curate our growth mindset - Cait's process: asking herself, “What feels good?” then balancing that with, “What might I be resisting that might serve me?” - We can be intentional about our end-of-year environment in order to give ourselves the space we need to reflect - Get clear on core desired feelings - when we use this process daily over the course of a few weeks, we can begin to feel our bodies and ask ourselves, “What does my body want and need?” - Cait uses Danielle Laporte's process to identify 3-5 core feelings that allow her to connect to meditate on the word, then see if she has the somatic response to it - Being able to sit with a word & discover how your body is impacted by the word - Words are the meaning we give them; if you're someone that wants to get clear on your core desired feelings, you can give yourself the space to let your body tell you to activate the feelings you want to feel - The RAS (Reticular Activating System) in our brain and the role it plays in allowing us to focus in on particular themes in our daily lives - Ideas to connect with reflection: take one page in your journal and make a list of the things that you did, lessons learned, themes, feelings felt, experiences had, etc. over the past year - Keep it simple – choose 1-3 words that you want to be the theme for the next year of your life   Resources -Visit the Vital-Side Homepage here -Sign up for the Rewire: The Vital-Side Membership -Lindsay's Instagram: @myvitalside -Visit Lindsay's Website -Cait's Instagram: @caitrossco -Visit Cait's Website -Information on Danielle Laporte   Join our community: bit.ly/rewirethepodcast Podcast disclaimer can be found by visiting: bit.ly/rewiredisclaimer

Episode Description: Do you ever find yourself wondering how science and spirituality can coexist equally? And how you can use both to manifest the things you want in life? Lindsay and Cait are joined by transformational mentor, Suzanne Adams, to discuss her self-actualization journey and why at a certain point in her life she decided to question everything. Suzanne talks about the inevitable discomfort that can often come when you find yourself on a personal healing journey, how to embody the frequency of what you truly desire, and why certainty is an illusion. Suzanne is a seasoned speaker who has taken the mic on NBC, The CW, and Fox—as well as on stages ranging from TEDx, Hay House, The American Heart Association, LuluLemon, and many more. Suzanne is also a bestselling author, transformational mentor and strategist with book endorsements from Lewis Howes, Gabby Bernstein, and Lisa Nichols. Her latest book, Quantum Vibes – which was inspired by her groundbreaking Tedx Talk (that has garnered over two million views by the way), is an inspiring read that demonstrates how the combination of the Law of Attraction, spirituality, and science can work brilliantly in your favor to deliver you the contentment and success you've long desired.    Show Notes: - Suzanne's story: in 2011, she went to a luxury spa retreat in Sedona & dove head-first into shamanic astrology, chakra clearing, and tarot card reading - Suzanne's journey living “a surface level life” up until 2011 - She has a “soul resonance” moment in this retreat - she felt something in her body when her mind didn't understand what was going on - In 2013, she had a “quantum moment” or “dark night of the soul,” where everything in her life started to change - Feelings she had pushed down for years started to bubble up, and she drank wine to numb the pain of these scary feelings - Divine intervention: when Suzanne's clock never changed from 4:59 PM, so she couldn't drink during her 5 pm daily happy hour. This is when she started to question everything - She started researching self-help, joy, and happiness. This is when she attended retreats and hired coaches to reconnect with authentic herself - Suzanne's first steps: learning to override her logical, rational mind and understanding energy & frequency and how it feels in her body - Certainty is an illusion, a falsified sense of safety - There is always going to be discomfort in the healing journey - we can do things like practice self-love, self-care, and find a community to connect with our overall mission - “I have to believe in me more than I believe in my fear” - The definition of energetics – the intention of what you say & your actions; who you are being and what you are embodying; it's a feeling - Understanding our own triggers, desires, missions, etc. that informs how we tune into our own energy and the frequency of what we want to create - Science brings understanding to spirituality; when we understand we all have a vibration, we can make the feelings tangible - Start with small habit changes: changing what you watch on TV or meditating for 10 minutes/ day - The importance of learning how to balance our masculine (do) with our feminine (be/receive) energies - Dreaming from the field of what you desire (without needing to know the how) vs. dreaming from what you've already seen being done - Asking yourself, “What is my soul desire?” Then, you start becoming an energetic match to what you desire. Then, do one step at a time - The importance of marinating in your successes & “pinch me” moments   Resources -Visit Suzanne's Website -Suzanne's Instagram: @suzanneadamsinc  -Related Podcast Episodes: Ep. 56 - Unbottle Your Truest Potential -Suzanne's books: Girl Awakened and Quantum Vibes -Visit the Vital-Side Homepage here -Sign up for the Rewire: The Vital-Side Membership -Lindsay's Instagram: @myvitalside -Visit Lindsay's Website -Cait's Instagram: @caitrossco -Visit Cait's Website   Join our community: bit.ly/rewirethepodcast   Podcast disclaimer can be found by visiting: bit.ly/rewiredisclaimer

They saw the rigidity and perfectionistic tendencies that the brain retraining process sometimes brought about and craved another way to help people to reconnect to their passion, fun and their true selves while healing, and so, Elevate Brain Retraining 2.0 was born. 7. Is Limbic System Impairment Contributing to Your Chronic Symptoms? With Lindsay Mitchell

Better Medicine

Oftentimes, inflammation lies at the heart of chronic disease. Those people suffering from a chronic illness or symptoms have ongoing inflammation due to various factors and for certain patients, many treatment modalities do not help them. This segment of the patient population suffering from chronic disease often has Limbic system impairment which means the sympathetic nervous system is dominant, inhibiting bodily systems from functioning at optimal capacity. For these individuals, brain or nervous system retraining is necessary, helping to facilitate a parasympathetic reset allowing healing to take place. The parasympathetic system helps us enter a state of rest-and-digest, through which we can make positive changes to our brains that result in greater health, diminishing symptoms, and increased resilience to stress. Recent scientific research has discovered that the brain is constantly experiencing new neural activity throughout our entire lives. This concept is known as neuroplasticity—the brain's ability to change, re-organize, and adapt. It is at the core of Lindsay's mission. We discuss: Lindsay's health journey with chronic disease and what led her to focus on brain retraining. What is Limbic System impairment and brain retraining and how this is done. How to approach patients with difficult-to-treat chronic conditions that aren't improving. How to understand neuroplasticity, in other words, making changes to your brain. Guest Bio: Lindsay Mitchell is the founder of Vital-Side, a membership program that empowers those with chronic illness and limbic system impairment to retrain their brain out of the chronic stress response so they can get relief from their symptoms and find freedom in their lives. Her training in medicine as a physician assistant, work as an NLP practitioner, and experience having recovered from Lyme disease makes her uniquely qualified to assist others in learning how to shift their response and experience positive changes to their symptoms. In this episode, we have guest speaker Lindsay Mitchell, and we talk about rewiring the brain after chronic illness through neuroplasticity. I have my own experiences coming through chronic illness. I had asthma as a child had massive terrible debilitating migraines as a child; by the time that I was in my mid-20s, I developed sibo, I've had e coli, then I got diagnosed with PoTS postural tachycardia, the list goes on, I was from 26 to 30. I went over 45 doctors and spent probably well into the six figures on my medical expenses and needs. One of the things that happened that were fascinating in my journey was, coming across the research and literature around the ACE Survey and how adverse childhood experiences and development in the cortisol state which happens for a lot of people who come through trauma and that's whether it's trauma as a child or a trauma as an adult at all kind of leads down the same pathway where suddenly you're in your sympathetic nervous system the fight will use freeze or fawn response and your brain is only trying to do one thing to survive. Lindsay Mitchell is a super passionate human, lover of all things neuroscience, and the founder of Vital-Side. She works with people with chronic illness & chronic symptoms retrain the chronic stress response in the brain to find freedom in their lives. Her training in medicine, work as an NLP practitioner, and experience with having recovered from Lyme disease helps her give people the tools they need to shift & change their symptoms in an empowering way. How do you heal the body when the brain is only focused in the body is only focused on what autonomic functions must be present for survival?
