Nemělo to přijít už v létě? Bude Ruben Amorim dobrá náhrada? A sednou mu hráči, které mají United momentálně pod smlouvou? Krátce podiskutujeme o Zlatém míči. No a nakonec si dáme i klasické fantasy okénko. Diskutují Vašek Pecháček, Tomáš Jarolím a Radim Braun.

Welcome to Skin, Spirit, and Sacred, a place to claim your beauty, pleasure, and experience joy in the body. I am so happy you're here to go on a sacred journey from skin to spirit with me.Firs, to clarify, Marianne Williamson is not part of this podcast (yet). The reason her name is in the title is because during the launch weekend of GROUND & BE FREE my book was on par with Marianne's new release The Mystic Jesus: The Mind of Love (at one point we were #1, and #2 in New Release in Spirituality). A moment of awe, and star-struck gratitude for me.A Weekend of Joy! (00:26)I am coming out of an incredibly potent weekend of launching and milestones for my own personal life and business life. I am honored and really elated to be here with you, and also tired because the energetic and intentional output that just went into birthing what I have put out into the world was immense.Today I talk to you a little bit about the experience of launching a book, some incredible aha moments I've had, and then take you on a journey of experiencing grounding.Becoming a #1 Bestseller (06:10)I was winding down for the day last Sunday and I went to see how the statistics are going and I was floored when I saw book Ground & Be Free being number one bestseller in energy healing. It's just astounding! It has been such a potent and miraculous journey for me as a self-published author, it only happened with the blessings and the direction of Spirit. There's just no other way this would have come out the way it did from the moment I started writing it, from the energy that I had to produce it, and what has transpired this weekend during the launch. The energy, the need for the information, the vibrational frequencies, the grounding frequencies that are part of the book is what is needed by the world, by you. Thank you.Your Turn to Ground (19:22)Now it is your turn to ground. Now it is your turn to enjoy more of your sovereignty. And I'm really honored that you're here with me. So let's go into the practice, let's go into the experience, let's go into the moment of being.Thank you for joining me in this grounding practice. Remember, you can return to this exercise whenever you need to feel centered and rooted. Blessings to you on your journey of grounding and being free. With love & gratitude, Merina x Discover and Indulge in MAHALO Skin Care: https://mahalo.care/ Join Merina's Skin • Spirit • Sacred Retreat in Glastonbury on August 3rd 2024: https://mahalo.care/england/ Follow Merina on IG: www.instagram.com/mahalo.care/ New Book OUT NOW: www.mahalo.care/book/
Hey there, welcome to my little corner of the universe, where we delve deep into the realms of beauty, pleasure, and joy in the body. I'm absolutely thrilled to have you join me on this sacred journey from skin to spirit. So, pull up a chair, grab your favorite cup of tea, and let's dive in together.Mahalo's Birthday Celebration: Grounded and Free (00:24)Ah, Mahalo. It's that time of year again, and we're celebrating big. It's not just any birthday—it's Mahalo's birthday, a time to ground ourselves, to be free, and to indulge in a little celebration. Picture this: a cozy room, the gentle patter of rain outside, and me, savoring a delicious chocolate cake. Oh, and did I mention it's my birthday too? Yep, I'm welcoming my 40s with open arms.Following My Innate Knowing (07:37)I've always had this innate knowing, a sense of direction that often shows up out of nowhere. Whether it's quitting a corporate job without a clear plan or embarking on spontaneous adventures like walking the Camino de Santiago, these moments have shaped my path in ways I never could have imagined.Birthing Ground and Be Free (12:23) Ah, Ground and Be Free. It's more than just a book—it's a labor of love, a culmination of years of sensing, feeling, and finally, creating. The process wasn't always easy, but when the inspiration struck, it struck hard. And now, as I hold the finished product in my hands, I can't help but marvel at the journey that led me here.Mahalo Skin Care: A Labor of Love (16:04)Mahalo Skin Care wasn't just a business venture—it was a calling. From the moment the name landed in my mind on that fateful day in Oahu, I knew this was something special. And so, armed with determination and a credit card, I set out to create a brand rooted in authenticity and artisan craftsmanship.Coming Out of the Spiritual Closet (27:50)It's taken me years to fully embrace my gifts as a clairvoyant. From childhood memories of being called "weird" to finally stepping into my power, it's been a journey of healing and self-discovery. But now, as I proudly share my abilities with the world, I feel more grounded and authentic than ever before.Embracing Authenticity (32:30)As I enter my fourth decade, I can't help but feel a sense of solidity, a deep knowing of who I am and what my purpose is. It's been a journey of ups and downs, of facing fears and embracing authenticity. But through it all, I've remained true to myself, and for that, I am eternally grateful.A Poetic Farewell (39:30)As we come to the end of our time together, I want to leave you with a poem from one of my favorite authors, Khalil Gibran. It's a reminder that true giving comes from the heart, and that by embracing generosity, we open ourselves up to the beauty of life itself. So, my dear friend, thank you for sharing this sacred space with me. May your cup be full, your heart light, and your spirit free. Until next time, take care and be well. With love and gratitude, Merina x Discover and Indulge in MAHALO Skin Care: https://mahalo.care/ Join Merina's Skin • Spirit • Sacred Retreat in Glastonbury on August 3rd 2024: https://mahalo.care/england/ Follow Merina on IG: www.instagram.com/mahalo.care/ New Book OUT NOW: www.mahalo.care/book/
Hey there, lovely souls! Welcome back to our cozy corner of Skin, Spirit, and Sacred. I'm absolutely thrilled to have you join me on this journey today. As we sip our tea together, let's delve into the depths of our beings and explore the sacredness that surrounds usEpisode Introduction (00:25) So, my dear friends, today's episode falls on May 4th – a special day for Star Wars fans and a gentle reminder that we're in the midst of the earthy, sensual Taurus season. As we navigate through the lush blossoms of spring, I invite you to slow down, indulge in life's pleasures, and join me in this sacred spaceGrounding Practice (03:23)Before we dive in, let's take a moment to ground ourselves. Surrounded by the comforting warmth of familiar sights and sounds, close your eyes, take a deep breath, and let your roots sink deep into the earth, connecting you to its nurturing energy.Exploring Sacredness (05:13)Now, let's chat about something close to my heart – the concept of sacredness. I've been pondering what makes certain places, objects, and experiences sacred, and I'd love to hear your thoughts.I can't help but feel a twinge of sadness for the sacred sites lost to modernization. Stonehenge, with its ancient mysteries and timeless allure, serves as a poignant example of humanity's disconnect from the sacred. It's as if we've traded reverence for convenience, and I can't help but wonder at what cost.Personal Updates (28:23)Before we get carried away with our musings, I have some exciting news to share! Mark your calendars for May 11th – not only is it the 11th anniversary of Mahalo Skin Care, but it's also a special day for me personally. I'll be launching my new book, "Ground and Be Free," and hosting a retreat in the mystical land of Glastonbury, UK. I'd be honored to have you join me for these celebrations.Personal Reflection (32:33) As we wrap up our time together, I'm reminded of a childhood memory that still fills me with warmth and wonder. It's moments like these – connecting with nature, feeling the heartbeat of the earth – that remind me of the sacredness all around us. I encourage you to explore what's sacred to you, dear friend, and embrace it with open arms.Closing Poem (39:39) The Prophet by Kahlil Gibran (On Prayer)Thank you from the bottom of my heart for sharing this intimate space with me today. Your presence and insights mean the world to me. As we part ways, let's carry the spirit of sacredness with us, infusing every moment with love, reverence, and gratitude. With love and gratitude, Merina x Discover and Indulge in MAHALO Skin Care: https://mahalo.care/ Join Merina's Skin • Spirit • Sacred Retreat in Glastonbury on August 3rd 2024: https://mahalo.care/england/ Follow Merina on IG: www.instagram.com/mahalo.care/ New Book OUT NOW: www.mahalo.care/book/
I'm thrilled you're here to join me on a Sacred journey with me. Today we continue deeper into the mystical, and the mysterious by diving into philosophical concepts of what is the Spirit. What do we mean by it? How does one feel spirit? From there, how does something become spiritual? Is heart connected to Spirit? What about these high frequencies and elevating your vibration that so many talk about now? Can mundane experiences become transcendent with spirit? For the purpose of this podcast, and Spirit being the core of the trinity, I feel it is important to share my meaning. My journey to understanding what I mean by Spirit, or when say I am connected, or guided by Spirit. What is Spirit? (00:33)So, what is Spirit? Is it the soul, the divine universe, or something else entirely? Spirit is entirely nonphysical, in its quality it is pure awareness, it is the energy that animates the body, and all living things. Spirit is the Experiencer, and the Witness, the Etheric. It is the highest frequency vibration itself. Spirit is the Universal Wisdom Consciousness within which each soul, and individual contentiousness reside. It is the underlying essence of life itself, it is never born and it never dies, it simply changes forms. It's timeless, formless, and ever-changing.Spiritual Elevation and Vibrational Frequencies (06:11)When we elevate our experiences to a spiritual level, we transcend our human sensory limitations. We tap into a higher frequency of pure awareness. Dr. David Hawkins' Map of Consciousness offers a tangible way to understand these vibrational frequencies. From the lowest frequency of shame to the highest frequency of pure consciousness at 1000, we can gauge where we are and where we aspire to be.The Role of Anger and Emotions (11:06) Let's talk about anger for a moment. Anger can be a powerful emotion that propels us upward, from lower frequencies like grief and fear to higher frequencies like courage and love. So, don't suppress your anger; embrace it as a tool for growth and transformation.Heart vs. Spirit (14:28) Now, let's distinguish between connecting to our heart and connecting to our Spirit. While the heart is our path to affinity and alignment with what's right for us, Spirit is the universal wisdom that encompasses all of our experiences and journeys. When we connect to Spirit, we connect to our higher selves and the ultimate truth.Practical Ways to Connect to Spirit (19:28)Ready to deepen your connection to Spirit? Nature is your gateway. “Nature is not a place to visit. It is home”. Mother Earth is the physical manifestation of Spirit. Spend mindful moments connecting to the earth—stand barefoot on grass, feel the earth's energy pulsating through you. You can also connect through skincare rituals, treating your body as a temple and inviting pure awareness into your self-care routine.Thank you for joining me on this philosophically rich exploration of Spirit. If you enjoy today's episode, hit the subscribe button and leave a five-star review. I can't wait to continue this Sacred journey from Skin to Spirit with you.Until next time, stay grounded, stay connected, and always remember—the soul walks upon all paths. With love, Merina x Discover and Indulge in MAHALO Skin Care: https://mahalo.care/ Join Merina's Skin • Spirit • Sacred Retreat in Glastonbury on August 3rd 2024: https://mahalo.care/england/ Follow Merina on IG: www.instagram.com/mahalo.care/ New Book OUT NOW: www.mahalo.care/book/
Welcome to the inaugural episode of Skin • Spirit • Sacred, hosted by Merina B Eldan. This podcast is your sanctuary to explore beauty, pleasure, and joy in the body, from skin to spirit. Join Merina in this sacred journey as she delves into the layers of beauty, self-care, and connection. In today's episode, we explore the skin from the perspectives of ritual, metaphysical elements, and the effects that caring for our skin has on our mental and physical well-being.Hey, lovely souls! Have you heard the quote by Dostoevsky, "Beauty will save the world"? It's right here by my computer, a constant reminder of the uplifting and positive energy I draw from it. It makes me think about what beauty means to me and how it shapes my life and yours. Through MAHALO Skin Care, I've had the incredible joy of creating beauty products that have touched the lives of thousands worldwide. It's been a journey filled with connection and shared stories, and I'm so grateful for each and every one of you.As we sit here, sipping our tea, let's talk about something that's been on my mind—the transformative power of skincare rituals. It's more than just cleansing and moisturizing; it's a gateway to deeper self-connection and vulnerability. I want to challenge the traditional beauty standards and invite you to view your body as a temple—worthy of care, devotion, and love. It's a sacred space where beauty becomes a catalyst for deeper connection with ourselves and each other.Out skin is not just our largest organ, it is a gateway to sensation, pleasure, and communication. How incredible is that? I've been thinking a lot about physical touch as a love language. It has this incredible power to convey so much meaning, acceptance, and pleasure without saying a word. It's a beautiful way to connect and understand each other on a deeper level. In my Ayurvedic training, I learned that the skin serves as a diagnostic tool, reflecting the body's harmony or imbalance. It's like the check engine light for our health. Skin issues are often signals of deeper underlying issues, offering opportunities for holistic self-care and connection. It's a reminder to listen to our bodies and nurture them with love and care. With my skincare range, I've always been passionate about plants and their healing properties. There's something magical about connecting the vibrational frequencies of plants to our skin's language. It reminds me of my childhood, sitting in my grandmother's backyard, catching cherry blossoms in the wind. Those memories shaped my unique perspective on the relationship between skin and plants, and I believe they hold the key to unlocking our skin's true potential. As we finish our tea, I want to invite you to explore the pleasures of MAHALO Skin Care, a Kauai-based artisan-crafted line of facial beauty care. Embrace mindfulness in your skincare routines, and remember that even simple acts of self-care can be transformative rituals that connect us to our true selves. For the mundane to become a ritual, all that's required is your conscious care and devotion, to you, for you. Thank you for joining me in this intimate conversation, and I look forward to sharing more with you soon. With love and gratitude,Merina x Discover and Indulge in MAHALO Skin Care: https://mahalo.care/ Join Merina's Skin • Spirit • Sacred Retreat in Glastonbury on August 3rd 2024: https://mahalo.care/england/ Follow Merina on IG: www.instagram.com/mahalo.care/ New Book OUT NOW: www.mahalo.care/book/

As Slovakia's manufacturing sector privatized and modernized, many hulking and once prosperous factories and mills were left rusting and forgotten. This was true for the Merina textile factory in Trencin. It may have survived two world wars and tremendous political upheaval, but it could not withstand the fierce competition from cheap, foreign textiles. In this episode, we look at this factory complex and the fight to declare it an industrial monument in order to save it for future generations of Slovaks. Who ultimately wins this fight says much about the values of the moment.

Escuchar audio

Charitable accounts of his reign paint him as a forward-thinking and humanitarian reformer, the "Renaissance Prince of Madagascar." However, more critical accounts highlight his capitulation to foreign interests and unwillingness to adhere to Merina norms of power sharing, leading to a dysfunctional government. The economic progress made under Ranavalona's early reign was seemingly awe-inspiring. The country had rapidly transformed from a feudal state pumping endless sums of cash into perpetually failing companies, into a more coherent system of state-run capitalism. However, this economic progress came at an enormous human price and was propped up by a system of horrifically brutal exploitation. This episode will focus on unfree labor within the Merina economy, with a focus on how the Merina system justified and explained the use of enslaved and corvee labor, the effect that reliance on unfree labor had on the Merina economy, and how unfree laborers responded to their oppression. When Radama I died without a clear heir, his wife, Ranavalona I, allied with a group of military officers to secure her place as the new queen of Madagascar. Almost immediately, she was faced with numerous challenges, including revolts from conquered peoples, criminal lynch mobs attacking Christians, growing resentment against missionary schools, a stumbling economy, and a French invasion of the largest Malagasy port. Not to mention she has to do it all while ruling as a woman - something which had never happened before in Merina history.
An industrial revolution in Southeast Africa? Following the abolition of the slave trade in 1817, the future of the economy of Imerina was in flux. Looking for a replacement for the system of slave trading, the Merina king Radama initiates a strategy of industrialization, one of the first intentional industrialization initiatives in history. Large iron forging complexes, agricultural processing facilities, leather tanning centers, and gunpowder manufacturing facilities were all part of Radama's plan to replace the slave trade economy with one of finished good manufacturing.Support the show
Prior to his coronation, the king of Imerina, Radama, promised to his father that he would expand the kingdom towards the coast. In 1817, he accomplished this goal, conquering the largest port on Madagascar's eastern coast, Toamasina. But this was only the beginning. With a new coastal possession, Imerina was launched into a global world of international politics. Starting in 1817, Radama initiated a crusade to "modernize" his kingdom, launching radical new reforms to its systems of education, economy, industry, and architecture. In a sense, the reforms of the Merina kingdom mark the first period of history in which an African country tries to "catch up" with Europe, a phenomenon still relevant throughout Africa to this day. Imerina's fate in this quest is an informative story to follow for anyone interested in the questions of why certain countries are rich, others are poor, and how this relationship may be changed.Practicing Connection: Working together to help families and communities thrive.Jessica Beckendorf and Bob Bertsch host this exploration of personal and collective...Listen on: Apple Podcasts Spotify Teaching While Queer PodcastTeaching While Queer Podcast is a space for LGBTQIA+ educators, administrators, and...Listen on: Apple Podcasts SpotifySupport the show
In our last episode, Andrianampoinimerina reunited the warring kingdoms of Imerina after seven decades of intermittent civil war. While this alone is a significant achievement, Andrianampoinimerina also had to shoulder the considerable burden of trying to repair his economically and socially devastated kingdom. Through smart and efficient use of the Fanamapoana corvee labor system, Andrianampoinimerina directed the repair, construction, and maintenance of hundreds of canals and dams, which greatly revitalized the region's agricultural output. Combined with the end of the Sakalava raids, this resulted in a major population boom. Soil depletion and overpopulation, however, forced Merina people to expand their territory for further settlement, at the expense of neighboring people.Support the show
After Andriamasinavalona's passing, his sons' feud will blossom into a 70-year long civil war. Communities will tear each other apart, slave raiding will reach new heights, and famine will re-emerge as a new threat. Meanwhile, Merina rulers will engage in some experimental policies, like the minting of the region's first local coins, but mostly just kill each other.Support the show
The 18th century will be a painful time for the people of Imerina. The once proud kingdom will devolve into a deadly multilateral civil war, splitting into dozens of smaller kingdoms, each suffering from intermittent famine and domination by foreign enemies. How could the kingdom of Andriamasinavalona, rapidly rising to become a major player in Madagascar, fall so far. The inciting incident lays at the feet of the otherwise great king Andriamasinavalona. The mpanjaka Imerina had spread his kingdom several times beyond what his predecessors would have even considered possible. Could such a large kingdom survive in highland Madagascar? Andriamasinavalona believed that the answer was "no." Instead, he favored transforming the Merina kingdom into a confederation of four smaller states called Imerina Efa Toko, or "Imerina like the Legs of a Cooking Pot." The king's advisor Andriamampandry repeated warned him against the plan, cautioning that the newly empowered princes would immediately seek to make war with each other. But Andriamasinavalona persisted. Support the show
The class conflict of Imerina comes to a head, as the free peasants of central Madagascar overthrow the hated king Razakatsitakatrandria. In his place they elevate Andriamasinavalona, a king far more willing to listen and act on their concerns, ushering in a golden age of Merina history.Support the show
As Andrianjaka passes his stable but poor kingdom to his grandchildren, they undertake an enormous project to improve the agricultural output of Imerina. Their largest project, consisting of the miles of canals and terraces of Betsimitatra, would go on to transform the destiny of Imerina's history. This project, completed using the fanampoana system of conscript labor, would forever transform the demographics of Imerina by kicking off a decades-long trend of rapid Merina population growth.Support the show

While Imerina is our primary focus this season, they were far from the pre-eminent power in 18th Century Madagascar. In today's show, let's learn about the first empire to truly dominate Madagascar, the equally fascinating and enigmatic kingdom known as Sakalava. Since our show is primarily told from the Merina perspective, they will be the primary "antagonists" of this season. However, don't get it twisted: the Sakalava kingdom and its people were so much more than mere enemies of the Merina.Support the show

Welcome Ladies and Gentlemen to another episode of The Open Mic Podcast! With your host Tom Hirst, brought to you by Richland Source and Newsroom After Hours! This week we have the lovely Jai Merina on the podcast! I really enjoy seeing the progression Jai has made as an artist. The first time I saw her perform was at a bar where she played a set of cover songs on her acoustic. Cover artists are fun for the simple fact that everyone likes to sing along to nostalgic songs from their past or current radio hits. So no shade being thrown here, but for me originals are what i get excited about. We talk all about that transition from cover artist to writing originals and preparing to put out those originals in this episode! If you like classic 70's acoustic rock dripping with raw, transparent, honest emotion, coupled with a powerhouse of a beautiful voice... Then this episode is totally for you! Jai also gives us a very special performance of three unreleased originals that she has been recently working on. It's an awesome epsiode and I had so much fun sitting down and talking everything music with her. Please check out her Fabcebook page to keep current on where she is perfoming next and stay tuned for all the great material to come from this incredibly talented young Lady! click here for Jai Merina's Facebook page!! Ranavalona I (born Rabodoandrianampoinimerina (also called Ramavo); c. 1778 – August 16, 1861), also known as Ranavalo-Manjaka I, was sovereign of the Kingdom of Madagascar from 1828 to 1861. After positioning herself as queen following the death of her young husband, Radama I, Ranavalona pursued a policy of isolationism and self-sufficiency, reducing economic and political ties with European powers, repelling a French attack on the coastal town of Foulpointe, and taking vigorous measures to eradicate the small but growing Malagasy Christian movement initiated under Radama I by members of the London Missionary Society. She made heavy use of the traditional practice of fanompoana (forced labor as tax payment) to complete public works projects and develop a standing army of between 20,000 and 30,000 Merina soldiers, whom she deployed to pacify outlying regions of the island and further expand the realm. The combination of regular warfare, disease, difficult forced labor and harsh trials by ordeal using a poisonous nut from the Tangena shrub resulted in a high mortality rate among both soldiers and civilians during her 33-year reign, with Madagascar's population reducing from 5 million in 1833 to 2.5 million in 1839. An interview with Merina Khanom. Merina is a Product Manager at BBC iPlayer, which she boldly names as the inspiration for Netflix, and a passionate advocate for increasing diversity & inclusion within product companies as well as the wider product community. We talk about a lot, including: Her work for BBC iPlayer, how she took her passion for mobile solutions into product management, and whether mobile product management is easier or harder than other types of product management How her CV doesn't look like anyone else's, how she took a non-linear path in product management, and the challenges of getting past recruitment filters when you have a different-sounding name How she felt when she found out she was the only hijab-wearing Muslim woman in the history of BBC iPlayer, and why it's reductive and lazy to blame that on a pipeline problem The problems with breaking into tech when you have no role models that look like you, and the problems you can have getting taken seriously if people have never seen someone that looks like you working in the role How the killing of George Floyd affected her personally & gave her the energy to speak up & take a stand for racial equality at work, and some of the challenges marginalised people can have opening up when they've been bullied into submission Some of the initiatives she helped kick off at work, and how she tried to work with product conferences & communities to challenge the lack of diversity on their rosters Why a lack of diversity & inclusion is everyone's responsibility, not just something for marginalised people to sort out or advocate for alone And much more!

Jennifer's Question: Hi there! Thank you for this forum! My sister is using the Mirena. I would like to recommend she starts BHRT as she is 49 and has perimenopause symptoms. Is she able to take Prometrium and stay on the Mirena? Thank you in advance Short Answer: The Mirena IUD contains 52 mg of levonorgestrel, which is a synthetic form of progesterone. This is often recommended for women in their mid to late 40's to control some of the symptoms of perimenopause. The IUD is fine for pregnancy prevention, but we don't agree with women in perimenopause given birth control to control their symptoms. There are better BHRT options for managing perimenopause symptoms. However, depending on the woman and her symptoms, she could take progesterone with an IUD. We recommend bioidentical sustained-release progesterone, but not Prometrium. There are more dosing options with bioidentical progesterone and the sustained-release form seems to be better tolerated than the instant-release Prometrium. PYHP 090 Full Transcript: Download PYHP 090 Transcript Dr. Maki: Hello everyone, thank you for joining us for another episode of the Progress Your Health Podcast. I'm Dr. Maki. Dr. Davidson: And I'm Dr. Davidson. Dr. Maki: So good morning. How are you doing today? Dr. Davidson: I'm doing great. I'm doing fantastic. How are you doing? Dr. Maki: I'm doing fine. Dr. Maki: We have a question. This actually comes up quite often talking about different types of contraception. Although this one isn't exactly about contraception. But we're going to talk about the Merina. just a little bit. Anyways, why don't you go ahead? This is from Jennifer which is pertaining to I believe her sister, which is kind of like an indirect sort of thing, but she wants to encourage her sister and to be HRT, but her sister wants to use the Mirena. Dr. Davidson: Which yeah, it sounds like she is using it. It says, so this is from Jennifer she says “thank you for this forum. Hi there.” You're very welcome. We love it when we get compliments. So Jennifer says, “my sister is using the Merina, I would like to recommend she starts BHRT, bioidentical hormone replacement therapy as she is 49 years old and has perimenopause symptoms. Is she able to take Prometrium and stay on the Merina? Thank you in advance.” So this is actually a question or somewhat a little bit of a roundabout question that we get all the time because since you know the introduction of the IUD, which is from gazillion years ago with Cleopatra, but now they have hormonal IUDs as opposed to the copper IUDs, and they've been around for a long time. But a lot of people ask well, you know my hormones are awry, things are off, I'm in my 40s, I don't want to take birth control pills when you're in your 40s is an IUD

“I literally spend hours just staring at my glasswork or my worktable, and think: ‘Ok I’m gonna give it up.’ And then my husband always says, ‘Just go down there and work, go and try this, get in there and immerse yourself.’ You know, I struggle all the time. That’s part of it: it’s pain and pleasure. Pain, pleasure, and definitely passion. And sometimes the pain is worse than the pleasure is, or sometimes the pleasure of something coming out… is wonderful. And, you know, I think that they come in waves, and you gotta ride some waves harder than the others.” Anita Merina, educator and children’s literacy advocate turned glass artist, talks about glass working as a form of magic. When working with glass, she says, there are so many surprises and possibilities that, “you become like the magician, the scientist, the mad scientist…” After 28 years in the education and editorial field and leading the National Education Association’s Read Across America program, Anita Merina picked up glassworking about 10 years ago. She is now following her longtime dream to be an artist with glass as her medium. She is the owner and creative mind behind AMerinaGlassworks and partner with Katherine Thomas in DC Glass Artists. To learn more about Anita and her work, follow her on Facebook at AmerinaGlassworks or on Instagram at Merinaglasswork. Some themes from our conversation include: * The surprising nature of glass * The importance of play * Finding your own unique way in your art form * Finding mentors * Connecting to your heritage through art * Passing on a spirit of creativity and resilience to others
