Meet the Eurostars 2025: The 15th edition of Eurovision in Concert took place on 05 Apr 2025 from Amsterdam's AFAS LIVE venue with acts from 30 countries that are competing at the Eurovision Song Contest 2025 to showcase their entries to the 6000 plus Eurovision Fans that arrived to watch the performances. Before the concert there was a Media Event where national and international representatives of the media could meet the artists and conduct short interviews. Radio International's Salman and JP were on location and conducted interviews with some of the artists you will hear on Radio International over the weeks to come. Norway's Melodi Grand Prix 2025: Saturday, 15 Feb 2025 is the date of Norway's National Final - The Norsk Melodi Grand Prix. Nine acts are battling it out for the ticket to represent Norway at the Eurovision Song Contest 2025 in May. The lineup includes the Bobbysocks who previously won the Eurovision Song Contest 1985 with the song "Let it swing" and also Wigwam who represented Norway in 2005 with the song "In my dreams". Radio International will introduce the songs of the Norway Melodi Grand Prix on the show this week with Robert Wahlstroem. Melodifestivalen 2025: Sweden's national final is called Melodifestivalen and is the biggest one in the world of the Eurovision Song Contest. It is the 65th edition and is produced by Swedish broadcaster SVT. 30 entries out of 2794 submitted songs made it to the shows. The 30 entries will take part in the competition across five heats. Each heat consists of six songs, with the top two songs directly qualifying for the final. Unlike in the previous edition, only the third-placing song will proceed to a final qualification round at the end of the fifth heat, which will now feature five songs instead of ten. The top two songs in the final qualification will then progress to the final, which will comprise 12 songs. The winner of the final will be determined by the usual 50/50 combination of votes from the public and an international jury. Instead of our regular “Couple of the Quarter” episode, we are bringing to you a “Duo of the Quarter.” On Sat, Oct 21 at 7am local time, the individual world championships of backyard ultra running commenced in Bell Buckle, Tennessee. The format sees racers run a 4.17-mile loop, called a “yard” in backyard ultrarunning, within a one-hour time limit, after which all finishers within the allotted time are tied for first place, and must present on the start line on the hour to go again. This continues until there is only one runner left standing, who must complete a solo yard to be awarded the win. After completing 107 yards & hours and covering 446 miles/718km, Ukrainian-Canadian and past guest Ihor Verys was the last person to DNF, assisting Harvey Lewis to a world record win. Racers were allowed only one person to crew and support them for the duration of the race, and he entrusted 52 year old friend and fellow ultrarunner Marina Striker with that task. To say she delivered is an understatement, and during this conversation you will hear how instrumental Marina's experience and support was in Ihor's success. You will also be treated with a few stories of things Ihor does not remember during the 5 days of running and you will get a glimpse into the militaristic discipline and mindset required by both crew and runner to keep moving for 107 hours straight. On Sat 13th July at 2am five hearty souls stood under the arch in Donard car park at the foot of the Mourne mountains ready to take on the Denis Rankin Round, this magnificent course has been hot over the last few weeks with some great attempts ending both with success and failure. They say a true challenge is one that completion is never guaranteed, and with only 24hrs to traverse all of the Mourne mountain peaks over 400m it would take a lot of skill and luck to complete the 90km course, with over 6500m of ascent strong navigation skills would be required to ensure success. The team was made up of Sean Nickell the key lead out man and navigator who has more miles under his belt than the proclaimers, Marty ‘Chipper’ Campbell and Barry McCarroll all three of which had competed in races such as the 108 mile Donegal Hero, Keith Clarke Deca-Ironman and Mark Weir who’s experience racing through the Mournes would become invaluable. On Sat,urday, October 16th, the Peter Pelham Concert at Bruton Parish Church in Williamsburg will present an evening of music by Dan Locklair, Composer-in-Residence and Professor of Music at Wake Forest University. The concert will feature the world premiere of “Arise in Beauty,” commissioned by Carolyn Weekley in memory of her mother. The choral work will set a text by Angier Brock, retired University of Virginia Instructor. Dan Locklair spoke with Dwight Davis about the work.
