Angie Schworer is a Broadway stage actress and dancer who got her start working at Walt Disney World, where she performed in 15 Years of Magic and the Diamond Horseshoe Revue, and she opened Disney MGM Studios! From there, Angie headed to New York where her Broadway career started in 1991 when she booked "The Will Rogers Follies." She went on to shows such as "Crazy For You," "Sunset Boulevard," "Annie Get Your Gun," "Young Frankenstein," "Catch Me If You Can" (where she was an Astaire Award nominee), "Big Fish," "Something Rotten!," and most recently played Minnie in "Some Like It Hot." Despite these amazing credits, Angie's probably best known for 2 shows. The first was "The Producers" in 2001. She was in the original Broadway cast an ensemble member and was the Ulla understudy. She also did the national tour for a year, and then returned to Broadway in 2003 and served as the permanent Ulla replacement until the show closed in 2007, making her the longest-running Ulla. She was also in the 2005 movie starring Matthew Broderick, Nathan Lane, and Will Ferrell. The other show she's best known for is "The Prom," where she starred as Angie Dickinson. She was nominated for the 2019 Chita Rivera Award for Outstanding Female Dancer in a Broadway Show for her performance. Enjoy listening to incredible Angie Schworer! NINE surprised Broadway in 1982 when it opened last minute and proved to be a formidable foe to the other big hit of the season, DREAMGIRLS. It was also a musical that couldn't seem to escape drama, whether onstage at the hands of lead character Guido Contini or off. Here this week to discuss the highs and lows of this stylish and somewhat avant-garde musical is original Broadway cast member Kim Criswell (THE FIRST, BABY, THE THREEPENNY OPERA). From last minute costume shopping at a Times Square lingerie shop to wearing Tony-winning couture gowns, Kim spills the T on one of the most memorable musical seasons in Broadway history, and the unforgettable people who made it so. Desde entonces es requerida para participar en conciertos, homenajes y representaciones puntuales de musicales como “Funny girl”, “Chess”, “Me and my girl”, “They’re playing our song”, “Into the Woods”, “Mujercitas”, “The drowsy chaperone”, “El jovencito Frankenstein” y “Shrek”. En 2011 ganó su segundo Tony por su interpretación de Reno Sweeney en “Anything goes”. Su último musical en Broadway ha sido “The music man” con Hugh Jackman con el que gana el Drama League, además de su séptima nominación a los Tony. Emily Goulazian is an actress who has been able to participate in several different regional productions of iconic shows. Goulazian played Cinderella in a production of Into the Woods. She got to share Stephen Sondheim and James LaPaine's complex version of Cinderella with audience members. She performed in a production of Xanadu, which is a musical known for the fact that people roller skate on stage. This was brand new for Goulazian, and it was a bit nerve racking at first since she has never done something even close to this in her lifetime. However, she managed to pull it off successfully for this show. One highlight of her career this far, was a production of Will Rogers Follies. This is because Goulazian got to perform the original choreography when she did the show which was a first for her. Getting to show off that magical era of musical theatre was a huge check off the bucket list for this rising star. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/jayme-starr/support

"At the early age of 19, I was an entrepreneur of my first dance studio. During my time as a dancer and business owner, I was offered the opportunity to audition for the Atlanta Hawks NBA dance team competing against 400 girls and was awarded to be one of 12 members. My success led me to the 42nd Street, Will Rogers Follies, and became the Dance Captain of the World Famous Radio City Rockettes. My Dancing career led me to choreography and choreographed the show 'Beats of Passion' at the Venetian Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. On top of my career in health and fitness as well as my time as a business owner, dance team member and choreographer, I am a single mother of two beautiful children. I have done this while suffering hardship that led to unhealthy nutrition and poor choices in my life style. I walked this journey with just my two children and within a year and a half of making better choices, I lost 100 pounds. This has given me the confidence to stand tall and held the title of United States of America Ms. Nevada 2021. I am now doing Masterclasses for students of all ages in modeling, interview, health, and self-awareness. I wish to empower women by inspiring them to fight through any fears or disbeliefs they may have and live their best lives." https://anchor.fm/debbie-freeman

AIN'T MISBEHAVIN COMPOSER: Fats Waller LYRICIST: Fats Waller BOOK: Richard Maltby Jr and Murray Horwitz DIRECTOR: Richard Maltby Jr CHOREOGRAPHER: Arthur Faria PRINCIPLE CAST: Nell Carter (Nell),Andre DeShields (Andre), Ken Page (Ken) OPENING DATE: May 09, 1978 CLOSING DATE: Feb 21, 1982 PERFORMANCES: 1,604 SYNOPSIS: Using the pre-existing music of 1930s jazz pianist Fats Waller, Ain't Misbehavin uses three women and two men to sing Waller's songs in a plotless revue celebrating his music. Richard Dueñez Morrison's highlights the significance Ain't Misbehavin' had as a highly regarded, character-driven Broadway revue. Though a comparatively simple lineup of Fats Waller songs without book, elaborate set, sizable ensemble, or major stars, the show brought the world of the Harlem Renaissance to life in a way that was both novel and accessible for largely white audiences. Director-lyricist Richard Maltby Jr., and writer Murray Horwitz abandoned the idea of crafting a conventional, dialogue-driven telling of Waller's life in favor of a more nuanced evening which showcased the diverse talents of the five Black performers in the cast, including future stars Nell Carter and Andre DeShields. Maltby carefully guided the transition of the show from its intimate premiere at Manhattan Theatre Club's off-Broadway venue to the larger Longacre Theatre, ensuring the intimacy at the heart of the piece translated to a Broadway stage. When the revue won the 1978 Tony Award for Best Musical, new avenues were opened for Broadway revues as well as Black representation on the Broadway stage. Richard Dueñez Morrison - Richard Dueñez Morrison is a music director and voice teacher in San Diego, California. He holds a bachelor's degree in Stage Management from Webster University and a master's degree in Musical Theater from San Diego State University. His favorite musicals include Sweeney Todd, Nine, Andrew Lippa's A Little Princess, The Will Rogers Follies, and Caroline, or Change. Mark Delabarre and I became friends in the early 1980’s where we met at Virginia Commonwealth University. His gorgeous tenor voice, handsome face and height (I believe he is 6’4) caught my attention immediately. He’s not only talented but just a lovely soul. He has lived in NYC for about 30 years and made a living as late night comedian, model, television actor and if my memory serves me correctly gives a pretty mean back rub! He took that talent and became a certified massage therapist so when “in between jobs” as we like to say in the theatre – it sounds better than unemployed – he has a steady job. The Actor’s Fund helped him with funding - he tells us how tap into that opportunity. Mark studied at Bada in Oxford (British American Drama Academy) with the master himself, James Barton who authored PLAYING SHAKESPEARE. He was Will in the national tour of The Will Rogers Follies (that boy can rope!) and has some great advice for actors of all ages. Enjoy!!!
Dennis visits the LA home/studio space of photographer John Ganun whose company, Scenario Photography specializes in high-end photo set ups--they're not booths--for special events. He talks about the company's humble beginnings with ping pong and underwear, what sets Scenario apart, doing Katy Perry's birthday party for seven years in a row, how social media and digital photography came along and changed the game. He talks about his most popular scenario--the Fred Astaire-inspired upside-down room--and how he goes about getting people in the right position to make it look cool. He talks about shooting for the high-end market and sticking to his guns price-wise, telling dumb jokes to get his subjects to laugh, refusing to use props if they don't make sense and his sexiest scenario shoot. He also recalls his days as an actor in Broadway shows like Will Rogers Follies, working on the Grand Princess cruise ship, his lowest point professionally--it involves a Mobil gas station, his most glamorous night, the first album he bought, his first Canon camera, shooting pics of the American Idols, his special talent for being able to walk down a flight of stairs like a showgirl. www.scenariophoto.com

SO MUCH TO DO on today's Todd and Erin Morning Stream! Also, a delightful case of instant karma and a baseball bat, humiliating video of Erin throwing up at the Worst. Possible. Moment. There's all your weekend goodness and a list of the best Cinco De Mayo events along the Wasatch Front. Plus! Jerry Mitchell is an American theatre director and choreographer. His early Broadway credits were as a dancer in The Will Rogers Follies, Brigadoon, and On Your Toes. His first professional credit as a choreographer was for the 1990 world premiere of the musical Jekyll & Hyde. Mitchell's first Broadway production as sole choreographer was the 1999 revival of You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown. He directed and choreographed Legally Blonde: The Musical, which opened in April 2007. In 2013, Mitchell directed and choreographed the Broadway musical Kinky Boots. He won the Tony Award for Best Choreography and was nominated for the Tony Award for Best Direction of a Musical. He is the director of the new musical On Your Feet!. The musical premiered in Chicago in June 2015 and opened on Broadway at the Marquis Theatre on November 5, 2015. Jerry’s work, like his personality, is filled with such a positive, infectious energy. It’s hard not to have a big grin on your face when you’re watching his work . . . or when you’re interviewing him for a podcast. Listen to me smile through my questions and hear Jerry talk about how he maintains that positivity in this tricky industry and . . . How he transitioned from an almost naked-dancing Indian to a choreographer and how his mentors (You know, people like Bennet and Robbins) responded. Why the first thing he does when he decides to work on a musical is NOT listen to the musical. What he believes the mission of a Broadway musical is . . . and how that affects the shows he chooses to work on. Why he actually enjoys previews! How his style of dealing with actors has changed since his early days. Keep up with me: @KenDavenportBway www.theproducersperspective.com Learn more about your ad choices.
