Stress is often seen as the enemy—but what if God wants to use it for our growth? In episode 98, Drew and Tim talk with Dr. Charles Stone, a veteran pastor and leadership expert, about how stress, when understood and managed well, can lead to spiritual maturity and emotional resilience. With wisdom from Scripture and neuroscience, Dr. Stone offers practical tools and godly insight to help us stop letting stress define us and start letting it refine us.Rather than avoiding or resenting stress, we can learn to embrace it with wisdom and faith. Dr. Charles Stone shares how our brains are wired by God to respond to stress and how practices like emotional naming, metacognition, and intentional joy can help us stay grounded in God's presence. This episode reminds us that in a world driven by pressure and performance, we can find peace, purpose, and strength through surrender and spiritual discipline.Stress has two sides: the event and your response—you can't always control the first, but you can grow in the second.Naming your emotions (affect labeling) helps reduce anxiety and increase mental clarity.Think about your thinking (metacognition) to discern truth from lies and realign with God's Word (2 Corinthians 10:5).Build a “pleasure piggy bank” by savoring daily joys that strengthen your soul (Nehemiah 8:10 – “The joy of the Lord is your strength”).Prayer and surrender shift us from fear to faith, allowing God to work in our stress (Philippians 4:6-7).Pastors and leaders must release the need to please people and embrace their God-given calling (Galatians 1:10).Learn more about Dr. Charles Stone's ministry at charlesstone.comGrab his book Stress Less on Amazon

Hi Intentional Wellness Warrior!  You care for everyone else. You know a lot about health and wellness and medicine. But, do you care for your own wellness? I was so bombarded with medicine, that it was very normal for me to pop 800 mg of ibuprofen for a headache, but not address my eating or sleeping habits. It was very normal for me to deal with gut issues for - my whole life really- and take my IBS diagnosis as B.S. and continue symptom management. Until I looked at my own holistic wellness as something to care for- to steward well- I cared for others WAY better than myself- and this took a toll. Can you relate? Well, today we are going to have a conversation with holistic health practitioner, Savannah Scagliotti. Savannah is a Christian based holistic health practitioner, herbalist and alignment specialist. Helping families near and far understand God's true plan for HOLY-istic living in His creation. It's a great conversation where she stresses the importance of discernment for our own health, and getting that discernment from the Holy Spirit. There's only so much logic you can apply to your problems, at some point you need to work with your biology. The nervous system it an incredible organ built to help you survive and it can over-ride your conscious processing at will. To stop tripping over our barriers and build true resilience, reduce stress & feel more alive we need there is a way. Working with your nervous system instead of against it. On the show we invite Esin Pinarli a licensed therapist and expert in working with our nervous system to give us a masterclass on turning discomfort into growth. Three Takeaways: Your nervous system doesn't want you to succeed—it wants you to survive. Discomfort is a signal, not a stop sign. You grow by expanding your window of tolerance, not by breaking through it. Real personal growth doesn't come from reading another book or “thinking positive.” It comes from your body. From doing the hard thing, just a little bit at a time. We talk about titration (small steps), edge surfing (riding discomfort), and how your brain actually rewires itself when you face fear—gracefully. Turns out, the part of your brain responsible for willpower literally grows when you push yourself. This is about learning to stretch without snapping. To build a stronger relationship with yourself—one uncomfortable moment at a time. Divorce throws your emotions into overdrive, with stress levels soaring as you navigate uncertainty and major life changes. But what if one powerful stress-reduction technique isn't about better coping mechanisms, but rather dismantling a fundamental belief most women carry? The distinction between being "nice" and being "kind" holds transformative power for women going through divorce. I'm going to walk you through the societal conditioning that pressures women to be nice—putting everyone else's comfort before our own, staying silent to avoid rocking the boat, enduring unacceptable behavior to avoid being labeled difficult—actually increases our stress and disconnects us from our intuition when we need it most. You'll see how niceness keeps us small and stressed, while kindness—speaking our truth, setting boundaries, honoring our values—creates authentic connection and reduces anxiety.  You'll learn:Divorce creates immense stress due to uncertainty, worry, and emotional overwhelmWomen are conditioned in our patriarchal system to be nice over everything elseBeing nice means putting yourself last, forgetting yourself, and sometimes putting yourself in dangerNice behavior turns us into people-pleasers who don't advocate for our own needsBeing kind means being honest, using your voice, and setting clear boundariesKindness involves speaking up when things are uncomfortable or unacceptableStart with small steps to replace niceness with kindness in specific situationsAs you practice kindness over niceness, your stress levels will naturally decreaseBuilding courage to be kind helps align your brain, body, and intuitionThis practice helps reconnect you to your wholeness and integrity after divorceIf this podcast resonated with you in any way, please take a minute to follow and give me a rating wherever you listen to podcasts. To schedule your complimentary consult with Karin click here. For more information and full show notes go to:https://www.karinnelsoncoaching.com/post/ep210
