Building a Mastery Mindset: Integrating Sports Psychology and Clinical Practice

Therapy on the Cutting Edge

In this episode, Jeff Greenwald—world champion tennis player, licensed therapist, and sports psychology consultant—offers a rare glimpse into the intersection of clinical therapy and high-performance coaching. Jeff highlights how anxiety has become the predominant struggle both inside and outside of sport, often crippling athletes and families alike. Drawing on nearly three decades of experience, he explains how his dual training allows him to work not only on performance enhancement but also on the deeper roots of anxiety, perfectionism, and family dynamics that shape an athlete's experience. He shares how he integrates Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Motivational Interviewing, and Somatic Psychotherapy, tailoring each to the unique needs of athletes. Jeff clarifies how sports psychology typically focuses on attention control, motivation, and performance skills, while clinical practice digs into family systems, emotional regulation, and underlying anxiety. Listeners will also hear about Jeff's practical frameworks, including the four dimensions of focus (narrow/broad, internal/external) and his “remote control” metaphor from The Mental Edge for Young Athletes. These models help young athletes understand they have multiple tools at their disposal—but it's their responsibility to choose and apply them in the heat of competition. A major theme of the conversation is Jeff's emphasis on the “permission to miss.” With statistics showing that 70% of kids quit sports by age 16, Jeff underscores the importance of helping athletes reframe mistakes, embrace imperfection, and cultivate a mastery mindset focused on growth and process rather than outcome. Over time, athletes learn to anchor their confidence in the skills they can control—their routines, effort, and perspective—rather than in outcomes they can't. This framework not only reduces anxiety but also fosters resilience, freedom, and joy in sport. He also shares how parents can best support their children—not by rushing in to fix, but by validating their experiences and normalizing their anxiety. As a competitive athlete himself, and still competing internationally, Jeff has demonstrated how you can transform from a tentative, perfectionistic mindset to a full realization of your ability through the mastery mindset, which also catapulted him to world No. 1 in his age group. He shares how this breakthrough was instrumental to his work and how grateful he is to be in a position to help the thousands of athletes he has worked with over the past 27 years. Jeff Greenwald, MFT, is a world champion athlete, licensed psychotherapist, best-selling author, and one of the world's leading mental coaches for athletes. With over 25 years of experience helping youth, college, and professional competitors thrive under pressure, Jeff brings a rare blend of elite performance insight and clinical expertise to his work. He is the author of the international bestseller The Best Tennis of Your Life, which has sold over 80,000 copies worldwide, and the new book The Mental Edge for Young Athletes—a groundbreaking guide for building confidence, emotional resilience, and a stronger mindset in sports and life. Jeff has worked with athletes across every major sport and consulted for national teams, Fortune 500 leaders, top junior academies, and competitive athletes at all levels of sport. He is a two-time ITF World Champion and was inducted into the Northern California Tennis Hall of Fame in 2019 for his contribution in the field of sports psychology and success as a world-ranked tennis player. Through his writing, coaching, and speaking, Jeff empowers athletes and their families to navigate the mental game with clarity, courage, and lasting confidence.

Dr. T and Truth Fairy welcome guest Dr. Emily Tunks, Founder of Embody Being and Research Trial Psychedelics Assisted Psychotherapist, to the podcast to explore her work in MDMA-assisted psychotherapy for first responders and her passion for understanding potential somatic implications of psychedelic medicines. Dr. Tunks shares her experience and knowledge regarding therapist support and well-being, and discusses the need for integrating Indigenous wisdom into psychedelic research.   The conversation explores somatic and relational foundations in psychedelic therapy, and Dr. Tonks emphasizes the importance of somatic psychotherapy and relational depth in supporting clients through expanded states of consciousness. She advocates for an approach where nervous system regulation, co-regulation, and attachment repair are key components, especially when working with medicines like MDMA and psilocybin. Dr. Tunks questions the fixation on mystical experiences as therapeutic benchmarks. Instead, she proposes measuring success through the quality of the relational field, the client's safety, and their capacity to experience nourishment and trust.Dr. T and Truth Fairy discuss the therapist's experience with Dr. Tunks, especially in the areas of burnout, well-being, and regulation. They highlight the need for therapist preparation, including their own embodiment practices, peer support, and supervised exposure to non-ordinary states. Dr. Tunks identifies something called the “trough of disillusionment,” which she explains as the time where hype around psychedelics comes face-to-face with the reality of systemic limitations and poor trial design. There is a need to mature the movement and deepen ethics, which Dr. T and Truth Fairy address with Dr. Tunks.“You know you have contact highs, as you said, if you've done a work… if you have some neurodiversion in there. If you've got some, hopefully, some intuition. We are going to feel stuff. We are going to have contact highs and we're going to have trauma lows, and being able to hold relationships, you know, in a way that will also meet regulatory standards. Let's not forget that when we're working above ground, we have to always be able to justify our behavior to sometimes people who have never had a therapy session in their life, like our medical boards, our registration boards. They are in an old paradigm.” - Dr. Emily Tunks About Dr. Emily Tunks:Emily aims to support individuals understand their whole selves, body and mind, so that their health, relationships and life purpose may thrive, in spite of physical set-backs and ongoing challenges.Emily co-majored in Psychology and Psychophysiology at Swinburne University, and after obtaining first class honours, she was awarded a full scholarship to complete a Doctorate of Psychology (Health) at Deakin University. Her doctoral qualitative research investigated Australian specialists' attitudes and practices of end-of-life care and organ donation, which was published in a high impact, international SAGE scientific journal: Journal of Health Psychology (under previous name: E. Macvean). Emily is a member of the Australian Association of Psychologists Inc. and is endorsed in Health Psychology (AHPRA). She maintains a commitment to excellence through researching best-practice techniques and her strong understanding of health psychology, clinical psychology, attachment, physiology, somatic (body) psychotherapy, psychodynamic psychotherapy, ecotherapy and psychoneuroimmunology. Both in session and outside, Emily draws on her modern practice of Eastern contemplation traditions and is a graduate of Hakomi Somatic Psychotherapy professional training.Emily is honoured to be a co-therapist in several local and international clinical research trials for Psychedelic-Assisted Psychotherapy (psilocybin with depression at Swinburne University and MDMA with PTSD at Monash University, collaborating with MAPS). In preparation for this humbling work, Emily continues to train extensively with several leading international PAP and trauma experts, local PAP integration and somatic psychotherapists. She deeply respects the healing potential of “non-ordinary” states of consciousness but most importantly, their safe, ethical, and practical integration. In addition to private clinical work, Emily has over a decade of multidisciplinary team experience in world-leading pain management and chronic illness hospital units, rehabilitation units, community health settings and university lecturing.Contact Dr. Emily Tunks:Website: EmbodyBeing.com.auLinkedIn: DrEmilyTunks__Resources discussed in this episode:Ram Dass“Becoming Somebody Before Becoming Nobody: Somatic and Relational Approaches to MDMA-assisted Psychotherapy”__Contact Punk Therapy:Patreon: Patreon.com/PunkTherapyWebsite: PunkTherapy.comEmail: info@punktherapy.com Contact Truth Fairy: Email: Truth@PunkTherapy.com

Clinician Paula Scatoloni returns to the Groundless Ground 6 years later, to share the evolution of her clinical work which now integrates sound therapies and energy medicine techniques along with somatic psychotherapy. This is a fascinating episode covering several kinds of sound modalities, such as: The Safe and Sound Protocol a unique listening experience that has been filtered through a patented, evidence-based algorithm highlighting specific sound frequencies which help regulate the autonomic nervous system and stimulate the vagus nerve. Binaural beats and Bio-lateral beats whose proponents assert these sound waves enhance certain beneficial brainwaves, though those claims lack good clinical research. And Biofield Tuning which utilizes a tuning fork to identify and resolve energetic disturbances in the subtle body nervous system. While all of this may sound far-fetched, Paula and I try our best to present it with the clarity and levelheadedness you deserve. Paula Scatoloni LCSW  holds a degree in social work and is certified in Somatic Experiencing, Biofield Tuning, Reiki, Brain Spotting, and many other forms of somatic therapy. Happy Satiated Saturday! Satiated Podcast is back!!!! One thing you're going to receive in the upcoming interviews is more exploration of nutrition. When I went through my Master's Degree in Somatic Psychotherapy, I was consistently surprised that there was no class on nutrition. This feels like a missing piece in the therapeutic world. I feel therapists would benefit from being aware that a person's nutritional status can also be contributing to their symptoms. This includes one of the many reasons why you might be binging. Binge eating isn't just a reaction to emotional or nervous system dysregulation. It can also be triggered by nutrient depletion from living in a trauma response. When your body is stuck in a state of chronic stress, it tries to compensate for the lost nutrients and minerals. Binging is your body's best strategy to get its nutritional needs met.In this week's Satiated Podcast episode, I talk about: the connection between trauma and nutrient depletion what nutrients get depleted because of ongoing high cortisol levelsa baby step you can take to start to be in a new relationship with nutrition You can also read the transcript to this week's episode here: https://www.stephaniemara.com/blog/trauma-response-and-your-binge-eatingAs a reminder, doors to the Somatic Eating® Program are officially open!!! Happy Satiated Saturday! There were two tracks at my graduate school in Somatic Psychotherapy. One was the Body Psychotherapy track, which is what I took, and the other was Dance Movement Therapy (DMT). The classes that I was able to take in DMT sometimes made me wish I had chosen that track of studies. The fitness culture has warped our beliefs around the purpose of movement. I've had clients say to me what's the point of moving their bodies if they're not trying to change their bodies. I get it. Physical movement has become synonymous with sculpting and shaping the body to look a certain way and that's it. The importance of physical movement though is so much more. The word emotion comes from the Latin word emovere: to be moved. Many body oriented practitioners state that the issues get lodged in our tissues. It is through movement that you can digest, assimilate, and move emotion through your body.In this week's episode, we're going to explore the movement modalities that have impacted the field of somatics. You will learn how these movement practices might support you in your well-being and in your relationship with food. You can also read the transcript to this week's episode here: https://www.stephaniemara.com/blog/the-history-of-somatics-a-movement-in-movementNext week, we will continue this mini-series exploring the bodywork influences on the field of somatics such as Rolfing, Cranial Sacral Therapy, Biodynamic Massage, Rubenfeld Synergy and much more. With Compassion and Empathy, Stephanie Mara FoxSupport the showKeep in touch with Stephanie Mara here:Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/_stephaniemara/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/stephaniemarafoxWebsite: https://www.stephaniemara.com/https://www.somaticeating.com/Linkedin: https://www.linkedin.com/in/stephmara/TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@stephaniemarafoxContact: support@stephaniemara.comSupport the show:Become a supporter of the show here: https://www.buzzsprout.com/809987/supportCheck out my favorite water filter: https://www.pureeffectfilters.com/#a_aid=somaticeatingCheck out my favorite protein powder and receive 15% off when you use the code STEPHANIEMARA at checkout here: https://www.equipfoods.com/discount/STEPHANIEMARA?rfsn=7433250.c99684Use my Amazon Affiliate link when shopping on Amazon: https://amzn.to/448IyPl Special thanks to Bendsoun...

I've shared on the podcast before that I've struggled with emotional eating, and I know I'm not alone. In this episode, Stephanie Mara Fox, a Somatic Nutritional Counselor and Mentor, is sharing her expertise on how we can tune into our body's cues to break our patterns of emotional eating while still giving ourselves comfort and safety. If you struggle with turning to food for comfort, this is the episode for you! Stephanie Mara Fox, MA, CMBEC, CHC, CYT, is a Somatic Nutritional Counselor and Mentor with a Master's Degree in Somatic Psychotherapy. While a lot of remedies focus on our thoughts first, somatic practices have us pay attention to sensations in our bodies to tune in to what it might be telling us. If you're stuck in a pattern of emotional eating, recognize that you're looking for safety in a time of stress in your body. Don't judge yourself or beat yourself up. Instead, look for other ways to give yourself that feeling of safety that isn't food related. As you're working through healthier coping mechanisms, you might feel some grief for your old source of comfort, and that's okay! Recognize that it did help you feel safe when you needed that, and have compassion for your inner child.   Welcome to the Wake Up Call Podcast with Alicia Hopkins (that's me!). My goal in this podcast is to share valuable and actionable tips on what I call the “Core Four” - mindfulness, movement, habits, and growth - so you can build a life that feels true to you. Happy Satiated Saturday! Two decades ago, I was navigating being on and off diets, binge eating, emotionally eating, overexercising, and doing anything I could to run away from my body. My body was the place that was holding on to trauma and food was the answer to feeling regulated and safe. On my journey to healing my relationship with food and body, I explored yoga, multiple different therapeutic modalities, and experimented with various ways to eat to deepen into relationship and understanding of my body. Along the way, I received my Master's Degree in Somatic Psychotherapy and have now been working for over a decade to support others worldwide to find a safe, secure, and satiated relationship with food. A common theme I've found over the years is that almost every single person I've worked with - who was looking to decrease patterns of chronic dieting, binge and emotional eating, eating disorder behaviors, and body image concerns - had some kind of trauma in their past. Let's define trauma as anything that occurred too much, too fast, and there was no one around to help you regulate and know everything was going to be alright. I have seen gaps in the approach to supporting others to heal their relationship with their food and body, which has fueled me to explore what is actually going to guide others into a safe and regulating relationship with food. And this is how over the years Somatic Eating™ was created through all my clinical and educational experiences. In this week's episode, I talk about what Somatic Eating™ is, how it can support you in your relationship with food, what is explored in Somatic Eating™ and a special offer for those interested in joining my Somatic Eating™ Program (for free!) You can also read the transcript to this week's episode here: https://www.stephaniemara.com/blog/what-is-somatic-eatingThe start of the Somatic Eating™ Program is coming up this next Friday! Psychologist Raja Selvam, discusses his new book, The Practice of Embodying Emotions: A Guide for Improving Cognitive, Emotional, and Behavioral Outcomes.  Raja is the creator of Integral Somatic Psychology™ (ISP™), an effective somatic therapy that encourages optimal mental health by fully embodying emotions. Raja and I explore how clinicians can facilitate patient resolution of difficult emotions by allowing increased recognition of emotion and then expanding that emotion to more of the body. Rather than cognitively down-regulating emotions, this somatic approach of expanding emotion increases affect tolerance and resolves systemic distress. ISP is a complementary modality for all talk therapy methods. It was an honor to dialogue with Raja about ISP and also our mutual interest in non-dual philosophy.Clinical psychologist Raja Selvam, PhD, is the developer of Integral Somatic Psychology™ (ISP™), an effective somatic therapy that helps clients achieve optimal mental health by fully embodying their emotions. Raja is also a senior trainer at Somatic Experiencing® International. His work is informed by Reichian Therapy and Bioenergetic Analysis, Bodynamic Analysis and Somatic Experiencing, and bodywork systems of Postural Integration and Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy. His work is also inspired by Jungian and archetypal psychologies, Kleinian and intersubjective schools of psychoanalysis, affective neuroscience, quantum physics, yoga, Polarity Therapy, and Advaita Vedanta (a spiritual psychology from India). He did trauma outreach work in India in 2005–2006 with survivors of the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami, based on which he has published an outcome study titled “Somatic Therapy Treatment Effects with Tsunami Survivors,” in the journal Traumatology in 2008. Dr. Selvam's work is also inspired by the work he did in Sri Lanka in 2012–2014 with survivors of war, violence, loss, and displacement, and with mental health professionals engaged in treating them, after Sri Lanka's thirty-year civil war ended in 2009.

Richard Hill and Matthew Dahlitz have written a comprehensive, definitively modern psychotherapy textbook titled, "Practitioners Guide to the Science of Psychotherapy". Their book covers basic neuroscience, body-brain systems, genetic processes and the application of integrative psychotherapy modalities for mental health disorders. This is the textbook I wished for many years ago when I attended graduate school. I was so excited to dialogue with these two brilliant men about the current sad state of standard psychotherapy, and the need for updated curricula and therapist retraining that rests upon scientifically validated patient-responsive treatments. This episode is a critical rallying cry in support of transforming a psychology/psychotherapy profession that fails to adequately meet the needs of so many patients. Richard Hill  is managing editor of The Science of Psychotherapy  magazine and lives in Sydney, Australia.  at 42 (1996) beginning with a Bachelor of Arts majoring in linguistics. -How can codependency show up in our physical bodies? -What about bodywork can help you stop neglecting your body and start to tend to your physical needs? -Why should you start to integrate body work into your self-care routine to help promote your healing from codependency? In this episode, we hear from the amazing Randi Kofsky, LMFT, all about codependency in the body and how bodywork can promote our healing. Not only does Randi share her expertise as a licensed psychotherapist about her perspective on codependency, she also explains the negative physical consequences she's observed as a body worker. You'll hear Randi share about cranial sacral therapy and she walks us through a specific exercise you can use to help slow down and tune into your body! We codependummies are like a “chicken with her body cut off,” so tuning into this episode to learn how to tune in to our bodies is A MUST!  Thanks for your support! She provides Cranial Sacral Therapy in Los Angeles and specializes in Somatic Psychotherapy for Individuals and work with Couples to Rewire Communication habits for enhanced Intimacy & Connection. www.innerwavebodywork.com  www.innerrichestherapy.com  More deets on the episode: We start with hearing from Randi about how she conceptualizes codependency and some codependent experiences she's had in her own life.  We then shift to the topic of the body-ody-ody! That thing attached to our heads that we tend to neglect to our detriment thanks to being overfocused on others and their needs.  Randi answers how codependency shows up in the body, how bodywork can help us heal from our codependency, and what bodywork looks like in our self-care practices.  Randi emphasizes how and why it is so important for codependents to connect with their bodies. Rathern than simply processing our thoughts, feelings, and actions in our head, bodywork can help us integrate our experiences in a more holistic manner through our body. Imagine going to talk therapy one time per week to “talk it out” and then going to a bodywork session to “roll it out.” It's a win-win given how cut off we are from our bodies. We end with Randi walking us through an exercise that we can take with us to practice connecting with our bodies.  It's a must-listen! Thanks for coming on Randi! Questions for you: What came up as you heard Randi's definition of codependency? How do you relate to Randil's examples of her codependency? What aspects of your codependency were you reminded of? How do you sense your codependency shows up in your body? What are the physical symptoms of your codependency? Where would you rate your level of connectedness with your physical body from 1-10? Why did you pick that number and what do you need to bring it closer to a 10? What did you notice while following Randi's steps to connect with our bodies via a cranial sacral method? How can you pay more attention to you body this hour? This day? And this week? It's a must to start to pay attention to our bodies! Thank you for listening! I have long wished for one complete website where I could find information about every trauma modality––the who, what, where, why, and how of trauma-informed care if you will––because I want training in all of them!  The truth is, whether we're therapists, specialized healers, or lightworkers, there's a reason why we call what we do practice: we never arrive at a place of absolute knowing.  Shelby Leigh helps practitioners of all sorts examine, without judgment, the situations that arise, teaching them how to best integrate a foundation of trauma awareness into their practice life. When we accompany clients on their healing journeys, we're bound to encounter new conflicts and confront reminders of our past traumas. It's these inevitabilities that Shelby's 1-to-1 coaching sessions and group programs make space to address. Her coaching clients gain a more nuanced understanding of themselves and how trauma impacts the care dynamic. As someone who's constantly urging therapists to do their own work, I hella approve of Shelby's coaching roadmap! I appreciate healers like her, who actively support the rest of us as we push the self-imposed limits of our intrapersonal communication skills and deepen our interpersonal healing.  GET CONNECTED Voicemail for 200th episode: https://speak-to.us/convoswithawoundedhealer Waiting List for Wounded Healers Virtual Group: https://tinyurl.com/WoundedHealerWaitlist GUEST CONTACT BIO Shelby Leigh has nearly 15 years of clinical practice, a Master's degree in Somatic Psychotherapy, two coaching Certificates and numerous trainings in the Somatic treatment of trauma. Dr. Kane portrays horses as consummate teachers of healthy embodiment and emotional resilience and describes interventions like medical qigong that help patients learn how to regulate and heal nervous system and psychological dysfunction.  She tells us about somato-intuitive skills horses naturally use like presentiment and going back to grazing which we can model and implement to enrich our daily lives. Handling some of the emotions that surface during coaching sessions can be a delicate process. Some instances may lead you to even suspect trauma in the life of a client. What a some signs a caring coach should watch for to know if referral to a licensed therapist is needed? What can a coach do within their own coaching scope to further help a client? In this episode, Jen Taylor, a licenced trauma therapist with numerous credentials and training in multiple techniques, shares her insights and tips. As Jen and I spoke, one important point stuck out to me that Jen really felt to be most important as well. That is: the relationship a client develops with you is paramount to success. This is true whether a client is dealing with trauma or not. But since trauma is usually experienced within relationship, so can healing be experienced within relationship. So the more you can positively connect with a client, the more you can help them heal and improve their life, which is the goal of all coaching. What You'll Learn How Trauma is Defined and some Red-Flags of Potential Trauma An unintegrated response to a physical or emotional stressor The nervous system's overwhelm that marks trauma Belief whether or not we had agency over what happened Survival brain hijacking Emotional and physical symptoms to watch for, tracking body movements How to Tell the Difference between Trauma and Normal Life Ups and Downs How quickly does the person recover from an upset? Does the person feel overwhelmed and powerless or do they feel they have agency? Is it impacting their daily life? How to Incorporate Help Within the Scope of Coaching Help clients develop the ability to be a witness of their own cognitive, emotional and somatic experiences (often referred to as decoupling) Increase curiosity to put distance between circumstance and response Encourage regulation and staying connected with self during disregulation The Top-Down Approach Versus the Bottom-Up Approach The brain creates thoughts and feelings and sends those down to the body; but the body also creates feelings and sends them up to the brain (how it is all interconnected) Using the body as an ally instead of an enemy Staying with the emotions that are coming up, creating space How to settle into, and make use of, a sensorial response Contact Info and Recommended Resources Meet Jen Taylor, MA, LPCC Jen is a somatic trauma therapist, specializing in EMDR Therapy, Sensorimotor Therapy, and Assisted Psychotherapy. In this episode, Janice explores that oh-so-common experience of getting triggered in the present due to past experiences of trauma, and how the activation of our fight-flight-freeze response in these situations can make it super challenging to stay calm and objective. She also discusses that we may have explicit memories of past traumas, but also implicit ones that we aren't aware of consciously. And she shares why it can be useful to learn how to discern between experiences where there is an actual threat to our safety, experiences where there is a valid concern but an additional layer of past wounding, and experiences where safety is there but we are unable to feel safe. This episode is part 3 of an ongoing series on healing trauma.*Please note that Janice is not a trauma expert or therapist, and that this series shares about her one personal experience of learning about and healing traumaRate & review the podcast on:Apple PodcastsPodchasersSpotifywww.TheSoulsWorkPodcast.comConnect with me:Instagram: @janicehoimagesFacebook: @thesoulsworkpodcastEmail: thesoulsworkpodcast@gmail.comListen to all The Soul's Work Podcast episodes: www.thesoulsworkpodcast.comGet the show notes here: https://www.thesoulsworkpodcast.com/s2-ep8-healing-trauma-part-3-getting-triggered-why-cant-we-just-leave-the-past-in-the-past/Resources mentioned in this episode:Complex PTSD: From Surviving to Thriving (Pete Walker)Healing Developmental Trauma (Laurence Heller and Aline LaPierre) (the NARM model)MINDBODY SEMINAR: Introduction to Somatic Psychotherapy and Embodied Communication (Dr. Aline LaPierre)Tribal Theory – Nurturing One's Nature online event (Certified Listener's Society) (Barbara Allyn)Somatic Internal Family Systems Therapy: Awareness, Breath, Resonance, Movement, and Touch in Practice (Susan McConnell)@traumaawarecare on InstagramIrene Lyon

Christopher Solomon is a Somatic Salvia Guide. He has been cultivating a relationship with Salvia Divinorum for over a decade and is dedicated to teaching people how to use Salvia for the purpose of healing, meditation, introspection, and guidance. After an unexpectedly profound and healing Salvia experience, Christopher began discovering the multi-faceted and misunderstood character of this powerful plant. In an effort to help and educate people from all walks of life, Christopher provides guided one-on-one Salvia sessions in person and remotely, via online video calls. In addition to guiding sessions and teaching, he also invented and manufactures a pipe specifically for exploring Salvia in a manner that focuses on maintaining mindfulness and harm-reduction. He is a graduate of the Hakomi Institute of California, where he studied Somatic Psychotherapy and is continuously learning and discovering more about the healing powers of Salvia. He runs the website www.salviahealings.com and always welcomes e-mails and questions from anyone who is curious to learn more about Salvia and his work. Gillian sat down with me to share her understanding of trauma itself - the big 'T' trauma and small 't' relational trauma. Specifically, she explains how and why these experiences have an effect on our wellbeing and overall quality of life. She explains how our mind is wired to cope once immersed in various distressing experiences and how, with the help of the right therapy, we have the ability to treat and manage ourselves. This episode is relevant to us all but especially those who are curious about how the mind copes with trauma or just unwanted life experiences in general. Gillian explains what you can expect from therapy, her various therapeutic approaches and how they work. I learned so much in this episode and I think you will too.
