How to Lead Remote, Office or Hybrid Employees for Massive Success | Remember when we used to ask each other this simple question: “Where do you work?” Nowadays, it's a more complicated question: “Where do you DO your work?” So what's your answer? Are you home working remotely thanks to zoom and a good VPN? Are you trekking into the office because you have a strong in-person component to your job, like maybe, running the company's data center? Or are you like many people and now working under some hybrid model? There's been such an evolution around where we do our work that even big companies have made fundamental changes. For example, Citigroup has taken the step of renaming each of its roles. They now have 3 kinds of roles: “remote” roles “resident” roles for those jobs that just have to be done at the branch, and "hybrid" roles. So that's wonderful that Citigroup has worked all that out, but many leaders are still trying to figure out how to best answer the question of where do you do your work—and it's the kind of thing that keeps them up at night! And so for this episode of our Quarter 4 Business Impact Series—the last one before we ring in the new year--we give you new perspectives and strategies to answer this very pressing question: How can you lead employees and achieve massive results when everyone's trying to figure out “Where's the office??” Answering that question is exactly what we get into in this conversation. This is the one about the possibility of returning to the office, or your place of work, after many months of working remotely, from home, or anywhere. Are you ready to go back? Or are you in what appears to be the majority of people who figured out how to work productively at home, and now see no reason to want to go back? Employers and employees are stressing over this, and there are good reasons why this is not a simple change for anyone. In this episode, we talk about the pros and cons of remote work for both the employee and the business. We look at how most businesses survived through Covid because of the hard work, dedication, and resourcefulness of hundreds of millions of employees who transitioned from in-person to remote work all over the world. We analyze the very good reasons why it will be extremely difficult to just snap back to the way it was before Covid. We also explore the very bad reasons some businesses are concocting in an effort to not make a change to remote work - even though it's crystal clear that remote work has and will ... well ... work just fine!We finish up with a chat about what we and some are calling The Great Resignation of 2022, and why we believe this is a likely event that will be disrupting many businesses that do not adapt quickly or at all. This episode is so important that we allowed ourselves to break our "about 20 minutes long" rule for the podcast, so please enjoy a slightly extended 30-minute episode.Visit the official My Job Here Is Done website to learn more, to contact us, and to sign-up for very infrequent non-spammy tidbits by email if you'd like. Best wishes!Dave and Kelli

Exploring why it's more important than ever to stay connected to your team via real-time conversation. Patrick is the co-founder of Commons.so, a venture-backed startup building the future of enterprise audio. Their product enables remote teams to talk as if they're in the same room — and in the process, break down barriers that inhibit connection. Patrick and his co-founders came together in May 2020 when they realized the way we work was changing before their eyes. Seemingly overnight, remote work became the new normal for millions around the world. Yet there weren't collaborative tools made for this paradigm, and it felt like we were still in the “cubicle era”. To solve this problem, Commons enables teams to have interactions you'd have in the physical office, without needing to step foot in it — starting with drop-in conversations. Together, the Commons team has 40+ years of engineering and product experience and has developed products at Snap, Microsoft, Google, Amazon, and their own startups.

The world is changing, and with it, the way that we work. The notion of one central office for everybody seems to be on its way out. Everybody commuting to headquarters from the far flung corners of the area is an old and increasingly outdated idea. The remote office is becoming more and more mainstream. Most all of the large companies are putting down remote offices in places far from their headquarters. Amazon. AirBNB. Google. Nike. You name the company, they probably have a remote office. The benefits of the remote office are more than we can name here. They can be more affordable, offer better tax incentives, and allow you to reach a different type of potential employee.
