Ralph welcomes Sherry Turkle, Professor of the Social Studies of Science and Technology at MIT and an expert on culture and therapy, mobile technology, social networking, and sociable robotics to talk about our addictions to screens and how to break out of them. Plus, our resident constitutional scholar, Bruce Fein, opens the program with everything you need to know about the latest Trump indictment.Bruce Fein is a Constitutional scholar and an expert on international law. Mr. Fein was Associate Deputy Attorney General under Ronald Reagan and he is the author of Constitutional Peril: The Life and Death Struggle for Our Constitution and Democracy, and American Empire: Before the Fall.I think it's important for the audience to recognize that 100% of the incriminating evidence was supplied by Trump appointees or supporters. No Democrat made a cameo appearance. There was no incriminating evidence from any opponent of Donald Trump. It's all his own people. And therefore, when you think about the indictment, the idea that it's a witch hunt by Trump's political enemies is facially lunatic.Bruce FeinThese expressions by Trump were not good-faith belief that there may have been a few blunders someplace or other. And [they demonstrate] that the whole goal was to defraud the American people out of the right to have a peaceful transition of power based upon a free and fair count of the electoral votes.Bruce FeinSherry Turkle is Professor of the Social Studies of Science and Technology at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and the founding director of the MIT Initiative on Technology and Self. In a friction-free manner. It will not involve changing capitalism, changing the structures of power, or saying that science and engineering need to be dethroned as the moral and cultural arbiters for the society we live in.” So, I think that the resistance movement has to come from politics and really has to come from political organization.Sherry Turkle[If I were king in this domain,] you absolutely have legislation that treats generative AI as though it were nuclear energy. In other words, do not say, “Well, there's kind of an analogy. Maybe there's an analogy because it's very powerful.” But to really say, “This is going to disrupt us, it's a national security threat, and it's certainly a threat to our elections…” So, it can wreak havoc— unless you're extremely vigilant and the thing is controlled— with every aspect of our democracy.Sherry TurkleThere's always a big-time gap between the damage of new technology and accountability catching up with it, or public awareness.Ralph NaderHi everybody, Steve Skrovan here. This is halfway between a shameless plug and some useful information. As some of you may know, I have my own Substack page called Bits & Pieces. It's mainly funny stories and essays. I wanted to alert you specifically to the last piece I wrote concerning the Writers' Guild Strike. It's funny but also packed with a lot of information for those of you who are interested. Some of you may think writers and actors striking is not a big deal, but our strike is emblematic of what is going on across many industries where the corporations are trying to turn us all into gig workers. On the RNRH, we have talked a lot about AI for instance, especially on the program you just heard. The writers and the actors have a chance to be the first entities to address regulating AI in a meaningful way. We are on the cutting edge of what people are calling the Hot Labor Summer. Thanks. In Case You Haven't Heard with Francesco DeSantis1. Senator Bernie Sanders and Representative Bobby Scott announced that they have introduced a new bill to raise the minimum wage. To account for the rising cost of living, this new bill would raise the wage not to $15 per hour, but $17. Sanders and Scott note that “If the minimum wage had increased with productivity over the last 50 years, it would be $23 an hour today. If it had increased at the same rate that Wall Street…bonuses have increased, it would be more than $42 an hour.”2. USA Today reports that the Houston Independent School District in Texas has decided to “eliminate 28 school libraries,” and use at least some of those spaces as “discipline centers.” This article further notes that “The Houston Independent School District is the largest district in Texas and serves more than 189,000 students at its 274 campuses…[and that] The once- independent district was recently taken over by the Texas Education Agency.”3. The Intercept reports that, amid the strikes roiling Hollywood, Senator John Fetterman of Pennsylvania has introduced the Food Secure Strikers Act of 2023. This bill would “repeal a restriction on striking workers receiving SNAP benefits, protect food stamp eligibility for public-sector workers fired for striking, and clarify that any income-eligible household can receive SNAP benefits even if a member of that household is on strike.” This bill would provide a crucial lifeline to striking workers, particularly as the Hollywood bosses have made clear that they are willing to see workers lose their homes before coming back to the negotiating table.4. A new report in Reuters alleges that employees at Elon Musk's Tesla Motors “had been instructed to thwart any customers complaining about poor driving range from bringing their vehicles in for service.” The company even went so far as to create a “Diversion Team” with orders to “cancel as many range-related [service] appointments as possible,” in order to stifle consumer complaints that the automobiles range on a single charge was far below advertised. According to the report “some employees celebrated canceling service appointments by putting their phones on mute and striking a metal xylophone, triggering applause from coworkers who sometimes stood on desks.”5. Bloomberg reports that the Abraham Accords – Trump's middle east peace plan which rested on inducing Arab states to recognize Israel by offering them money, weapons, or whatever else they desired – seem to be coming apart at the seams. The numbers are stark. While the agreements never enjoyed majority support in any Arab state, support has declined considerably – from 47% initially in the UAE, to just 27%, from 45% to 20% in Bahrain, and 40% to 20% in Saudi Arabia. This last drop is most significant, as the underlying purpose of the agreements were to align Israel and Saudi Arabia against Iran. The Saudis now plan to extract further concessions from the United States.6. Listeners may recall a story from North Carolina about Tricia Cotham, a Democratic state legislator from a safe blue seat who switched parties, giving Republicans a super-majority in the state House – and cast the deciding vote to override the Democratic Governor's veto and impose a 12-week abortion ban. Now, a New York Times report sheds light on why she made the switch: “Lacey Williams, a former advocacy director at the Charlotte-based Latin American Coalition who considered Ms. Cotham a friend for years, said Ms. Cotham “felt she did not get the gratitude or spotlight that she felt she deserved,” and added, “she was jealous that other Democrats were getting…adulation from the party.” This report also suggests that she was working hand-in-glove with Republican leadership prior to her election, suggesting that perhaps this was her plan all along.7. In Julian Assange's native Australia, political officials are calling on the U.S. to drop their efforts to extradite the publisher to the United States to stand trial under the espionage act. These officials include Foreign Minister Penny Wong and Prime Minister Anthony Albanese. Democracy Now! reports that US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken has rejected this demand, claiming that the WikiLeaks disclosures “risked very serious harm to our national security, to the benefit of our adversaries, and put named human sources at grave risk.” Australian lawmaker Andrew Wilkie, co-chair of the Bring Julian Assange Home Parliamentary Group, called this “patent nonsense,” and told The Guardian, “Mr. Blinken would be well aware of the inquiries in both the U.S. and Australia which found that the relevant WikiLeaks disclosures did not result in harm to anyone.”8. Finally, former President Donald Trump has been indicted for the third time, this time on four counts related to trying to overturn the 2020 election. Yet, what is most striking about this indictment is that Trump is being charged under the Enforcement Act of 1870, originally intended to prevent Ku Klux Klan terror to deprive Black voters of their 13th, 14th and 15th amendment rights. Section 241 of this law deems criminal any attempt to “conspire to injure, oppress, threaten, or intimidate any person” exercising a right protected by the Constitution or federal law,” per the Washington Post. Charging Trump under the Klan act may seem a bit on the nose, but hey, if the hood fits. Get full access to Ralph Nader Radio Hour at www.ralphnaderradiohour.com/subscribe

We start today off with world news as Ukraine and Russia are playing a game of he did it - he did it. https://www.foxnews.com/world/ukraine-russia-accuse-each-other-planning-imminent-attack-europes-largest-nuclear-plant Ukraine, Russia accuse each other of planning imminent attack against Europe's largest nuclear plant Ukraine and Russia have accused each other of planning an imminent attack against one of the world's largest nuclear plants. In a video address Tuesday night, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy alleged that information from Ukrainian intelligence officials shows the "Russian military has placed objects resembling explosives on the roof of several power units" of the Za-po-ree-zia Nuclear Power Plant – located in southeastern Ukraine and occupied by Russian troops. The "foreign objects" were placed on the roof of the plant's third and fourth power units, according to a statement from the General Staff of Ukraine’s armed forces. "Their detonation should not damage power units but may create a picture of shelling from Ukraine," the statement said. In Russia, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov raised the specter of a potentially "catastrophic" provocation by the Ukrainian army at the nuclear plant, which is Europe’s largest but has its six reactors shut down. It still needs power and qualified staff to operate crucial cooling systems and other safety features. Over the last year, the U.N.'s atomic watchdog repeatedly expressed alarm over the possibility of a radiation catastrophe like the one at Chernobyl, where a reactor exploded in 1986. While Russia and Ukraine regularly traded blame over shelling near the plant that caused power outages, Ukraine has alleged more recently that Moscow might try to cause a deliberate leak in an attempt to derail Kyiv’s ongoing counteroffensive in the surrounding Za-po-ree-zia region. Moscow, meanwhile, had accused the Ukrainians of "deliberate sabotage" of the Ka-hove-ka hydroelectric power plant, claiming Kyiv was "pursuing the goal of depriving Crimea of water." The International Atomic Energy Agency has officials stationed at the Russian-held plant, which is still run by its Ukrainian staff. IAEA Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi said his agency's most recent inspection of the plant found no mining activities, "but we remain extremely alert." We now go to California. https://www.dailywire.com/news/california-bills-keep-pride-marching-long-past-june California Bills Keep Pride Marching Long Past June The infernal provocation that is Pride Month might be over, but the marches continue through the legislature in California. They are here, they are queer, and they are coming for your children — legally. Multiple bills at various stages in the California legislative process proclaim who ultimately has authority of your kids, and it’s not you. Some have understandably garnered much media attention, but SB 407 is working its way through the Assembly without much fanfare or discussion. SB 407 would require all potential foster families to demonstrate their capacity and willingness to facilitate pharmaceutical and surgical interventions for “gender-expansive” children. Even if the child seems to give no indication of such inclinations at the time, the resource family must be assessed with the understanding that need for such care could arise at any stage of development. Sen. Scott Weiner (D-San Francisco) in introducing the bill, claimed it would protect children from being placed in “hostile foster homes.” Hostile homes are the homes of any foster families who are unwilling to commit to actively supporting gender transition interventions for minors. SB 407 effectively institutionalizes a prohibition against orthodox Christians as well as other religious believers. It effectively prohibits foster parents who think it unwise to allow the mutilation of perfectly healthy body parts on minors. Current and historic data give us insight into the demographics of those most prone to foster non-related babies and minors. Barna Group’s research shows that Christians engage in adoption, foster care, and other ways of aiding vulnerable children more than the average. “Practicing Christians (5%) are more than twice as likely to adopt than the general population (2%). Catholics are three times as likely. And evangelicals are five times as likely to adopt as the average adult.” Practicing Christians are also nearly three times more likely to have seriously considered foster care, and 65% of non-kin foster parents attend religious services weekly — compared to 39%for the general population. In any just world such families willing to stretch themselves to help kids would be sought after, not precluded from the foster system. However, the only families fit to foster, according to the supporters of this bill, are those who give full assent to the most radical tenets of gender theory. What is obvious to most everyone (except the bill’s authors) is that such ideological assent signals a willingness to reject sexual boundaries. It is that rejection that makes sexual chaos far more likely in the home, not less. Is that the goal? If minors can consent to invasive transitioning interventions, what can they not consent to? There is also the reality that SB407 is hardly the only bill in California attacking parental rights. SB 107, passed and was signed into law in September of last year, allowing minors to be brought to the Golden State against the will of a parent if it is for the sake of seeking gender transitioning. In-state parents are not really calling any shots either, according to AB 957 which puts parental custody in jeopardy absent the guardian’s support of their child’s “gender identity.” Absent full support, which is not defined in the bill, a parent can be charged by a court with child abuse. The age at which the child’s desires to begin transitioning must be accommodated is not mentioned, but the bill’s author, Assemblywoman Lori Wilson (D-Suisun City) used an example of a seven-year old in arguing the merits of this bill. Now this is the author of the article talking here: At a recent speaking event I attended for the Awake Americans launch, some protestors carried a sign that read, “We don’t co-parent with hate groups.” Bemused, a few of us commented that obviously we don’t want them to co-parent with us either, so…no problem. But their meaning was more sinister. It was not that they would not co-parent our kids with us, it was that we are unfit to co-parent our own kids with them. They see our kids as theirs to parent and ours to lose. Biden said as much out loud recently, “There’s no such things as someone else’s child. Our nation’s children are all our children.” There’s no such thing as someone else’s child. In no situation do normal people act as though that were true. I do not decide when to speak to other people’s children about sex, nor take them home with me at will. I don’t even know their food allergies much less make pivotal decisions for them. Someone could dismiss Biden’s words as an empty platitude or incoherent ramblings except that they reflect a real perspective that is incrementally creeping into policy. https://www.dailywire.com/news/governor-vetoes-bipartisan-bill-protecting-womens-sports Governor Vetoes Bipartisan Bill Protecting Women’s Sports North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper vetoed a bipartisan bill that would protect women’s sports on Wednesday. HB 574, which is titled the “Fairness in Women’s Sports Act” and passed with bipartisan supermajorities, would prohibit men from playing in women’s sports in middle schools, high schools, and universities. “We don’t need politicians inflaming their political culture wars by making broad, uninformed decisions about an extremely small number of vulnerable children that are already handled by a robust system that relies on parents, schools and sports organizations,” the Democratic governor stated. “Republican governors in other states have vetoed similar bills because they hurt their states’ reputation and economy and because they are neither fair nor needed.” The Fairness in Women’s Sports Act was passed with the support of two Democrats in the state legislature — Rep. Michael Wray in the House, and Sen. Val Applewhite in the Senate. If Cooper’s veto is overridden, the bill would apply to all public schools and any private school that competes against public schools. Applewhite said that her vote was “a tough decision to make” and was based on conversations with coaches and other constituents in her district. One umpire told the Democrat that changes in strength levels between boys and girls can start as soon as seven years old. According to the Fayetteville Observer, Applewhite received “bad threats” after her vote. When approached by The News & Observer, Wray declined to comment on why he supported the bill. Cooper also vetoed SB 49, named the “Parents’ Bill of Rights,” and HB 808, which would ban sex change treatments for minors. Unlike the women’s sports bill, these two bills passed with no Democratic support. Cooper’s vetoes of HB 574 and HB 808 are likely to be overridden by the North Carolina General Assembly, since the GOP holds supermajorities in both houses, thanks in part to Rep. Tricia Cotham, who switched parties from Democrat to Republican in April and voted for all three bills. However, the path forward for the Parents’ Bill of Rights is less certain, since one Republican, Rep. Hugh Blackwell, voted against the bill, leaving Republicans one vote short of overriding the governor’s veto on that bill. Cooper is not the only Democratic governor to veto bipartisan bills surrounding protecting womens’ sports, banning sex change treatments for minors, and strengthening parental rights in education. Governor John Bel Edwards of Louisiana vetoed three similar bills Friday, all of which saw multiple Democrats join Republicans to support them in the state legislature. In a press conference, Edwards compared the bills’ supporters to segregationists during the Civil Rights Movement. We now go to Phoenix… https://thepostmillennial.com/phoenix-city-council-votes-to-send-unclaimed-firearms-to-national-police-of-ukraine?utm_campaign=64487 Phoenix City Council votes to send 'unclaimed' firearms to National Police of Ukraine The Phoenix City Council passed a vote last week that allows up to 600 unclaimed guns from Phoenix to be donated to the National Police of Ukraine. The plan is going through a contract with a company, DT Gruelle, that is specially approved for overseas arms trading. Around $200,000 worth of firearms will be handed over to the company for shipment, according to the Arizona Daily Independent. Under Arizona City law, unclaimed arms need to be resold within one year after they have been obtained by the city. The arms are disposed of or sold "to any business that is authorized to receive and dispose of the article under federal and state law." In the June 28 City Council report, the city "selected approximately 500-600 unclaimed firearms to transfer through Gruelle, a private company which provides export and import services." The plan passed with unanimous support. The report stated that "firearms are unclaimed when there has been no owner contact after a thirty day notice, in which case the City can dispose of them." The Phoenix Police Department states that the firearms are "lost, unclaimed, or found in possession of the Phoenix Police Department." KJZZ said of unclaimed firearms, "essentially they end up in the police department’s lost and found" "Only 9mm, 45mm, 39mm and 12 gauge firearms will be sent," according to the notes. The council promoted the "two year" contract with the private company and, according to the meeting notes, no taxpayer money will be "expended by the City." However, questions about the transfer of arms have been raised. The law in Arizona states that firearms that are authorized to be sold by the city need to be sold "to the public" by the business. The company's website says, "We have a breadth of experience due to 40 years of continuous support to the United States and over 150 other countries, including Iraq, Afghanistan, and Ukraine." "We comply with all required procedures which permeate through our ongoing operations," it goes on. The company has a history of working in Ukraine. In April of 2022 last year, a report showed that a township in Pennsylvania worked with DT Gruelle to raise funds for the Ukrainian war effort, according to the Tribune-Democrat. Now this! Is it time to boycott Ben & Jerry’s? https://www.newsweek.com/ben-jerry-boycott-calls-july-4th-message-1810991 Ben & Jerry's Faces Boycott Calls Over 4th of July Message Ben & Jerry's is facing a boycott after calling on the United States to "commit to returning" stolen Indigenous land in its 4th of July message. On Independence Day, the iconic American ice cream brand sparked outrage on social media by publishing a Twitter post with an image reading: "The United States was founded on stolen Indigenous land. This Fourth of July, let's commit to returning it." In the caption, the company added: "It's high time we recognize that the US exists on stolen Indigenous land and commit to returning it." Ben & Jerry's message generated a flood of negative responses on social media, with some calling it the company's "Bud Light moment," referring to controversy and subsequent boycott after the beer brand partnered with a transgender activist in April. Other Twitter users called on the company to be the first to give up its profits and properties, including factories, buildings and stores. Others said that the company should be returning its factory land to the Abenaki people. "Ok you start. Relinquish your headquarters," one Twitter user wrote. "This should be easy then," wrote another. "Shut down and donate all of your land, facilities, and assets to indigenous people." Others accused the company of virtue-signaling—the practice of expressing opinions or sentiments intended to demonstrate one's good character, social conscience and awareness of a certain issue, just for the sake of appearing good in people's eyes. Scrutiny has continued to escalate over the company's support of the LGBTQ+ community and the Black Lives Matter movement, among other polarizing issues.

Ben & Jerry's message generated a flood of negative responses on social media, with some calling it the company's "Bud Light moment," referring to controversy and subsequent boycott after the beer brand partnered with a transgender activist in April.

NORTH CAROLINA GOVERNOR ROY COOPER THINKS ITS A STATE OF AN EMERGENCY FOR KIDS TO HAVE SCHOOL CHOICEThis damn fool is making North Carolina a Laughing Stock!! What a mess, North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper declares 'state of emergency' over school choice billRepublican state lawmakers have planned to use their veto-proof majority to pass education reformBy Lindsay Kornick | Fox NewsGov. Roy Cooper declares state of emergency over upcoming education reformNorth Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper declared a state of emergency on Monday ahead of the Republican state legislature planning to pass school choice legislation.Democratic North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper declared a "state of emergency" on Monday in an attempt to stop a school choice bill from passing the state legislature.Cooper released a video announcement where he declared a state of emergency, arguing that the state of public education is "no less important" than other emergencies."It's time to declare a State of Emergency for public education in North Carolina. There's no Executive Order like with a hurricane or the pandemic, but it's no less important," Cooper stated. He continued, "It's clear that the Republican legislature is aiming to choke the life out of public education. I'm declaring this state of emergency because you need to know what's happening. If you care about public schools in North Carolina, it's time to take immediate action and tell them to stop the damage that will set back our schools for a generation."Cooper's announcement drew intense backlash on Twitter as an overreach of government power. The Blaze columnist Auron MacIntyre wrote, "Executive governing in the permanent state of exception to save democracy.""Neutering the abuse of emergency power by the executive branch should be priority number 1 for every state," Conservative account "PoliMath" tweeted.School choice advocate Corey DeAngelis wrote, "they're losing control over the minds of other people's children. good. cry harder, @RoyCooperNC.""What a hypocrite. Public schools aren't good enough for his kids, but they are for yours," Independent Women's Forum senior policy analyst Kelsey Bolar blasted.Purple Strategies partner Rory Cooper commented, "If I *were* the Governor of NC, I would've been declaring a state of emergency when the state was in the bottom third of states reopening schools and depriving children of the education they needed. Not once parents got involved and demanded something better for their kids.""A ‘state of emergency' over a bill passed by the legislature. Very serious," Americans for Prosperity vice president Casey Mattox joked. In April, Republican lawmakers in North Carolina announced efforts to move forward with education reform bills that promote school choice. One measure includes a bill that would provide equal funding to charter school students along those who attend public school. Critics, such as Cooper, claimed that the bill mostly serves to cut funding for public schools."Put together, these ideas spell disaster that requires emergency action. The North Carolina I know was built on support for public schools, and we can't let the legislature tear them down. I'm fighting back, and I need you to do it too. Public schools can survive this legislative session if we can limit the damage, but we all need to pull together to do it," Cooper said. The measures by state Republicans followed the announcement by State Rep. Tricia Cotham that she would be defecting from the Democratic Party to join the GOP. Her decision, she stated at the time, came from her support for school choice."On issues like school choice, like charters, we have to evolve," Cotham said. "One-size-fits-all in education is wrong for children … [Democrats] didn't really want to talk about children. They had talking points from adults and adult organizations."Cooper has been criticized for opposing private school vouchers while sending his daughter to a private school in Raleigh. He has also attempted to end the state's Opportunity Scholarship Program which provides vouchers to lower and middle-income students.=====================LIFE, LIBERTY, JUSTICE FOR ALLPROTECT OUR CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS#GoRight For Peter Boykinhttps://PeterBoykin.comPeter Boykin For NC LT GOVERNOR 2024#ncgov #ncltgov #ncltgovernor #NCGOP #NCpolitics #ncpol #PeterBoykin #GoRight #Trump #gop #Election2024 #ElectionsMatter

They could go through a preliminary hearing where lawyers for both sides would spell out some of the evidence in the case or they could bring and indictment through a grand jury. Kohberger had been scheduled for a preliminary hearing in June but it appears prosecutors decided to take the other path and make the case to a grand jury in secret. The prosecutors’ decision to impanel a grand jury, however, was not anticipated and allows the state to avoid the week-long preliminary hearing that would have required it to present evidence before a judge as well as permit the defense counsel to cross-examine witnesses. Since January, lawyers, police and other officials have refrained from making statements after Latah County Magistrate Judge Megan Marshall issued a gag order, which is being challenged by a coalition of news organizations… Kohberger has yet to enter a plea, but is expected to do so at an arraignment Monday. Kohberger will plead not guilty. He’s potentially facing the death penalty and, possibly because he was a grad student studying criminology, may believe he can beat the system. However, there seems to be significant evidence linking him to the murders. The knife used in the murders has never been found but a sheath for what authorities believe was the murder weapon was left behind at the crime scene. “The sheath was later processed and had ‘Ka-Bar’ ‘USMC’ and the United States Marine Corps eagle globe and anchor insignia stamped on the outside of it,” Payne wrote. “The Idaho state lab later located a single source of male DNA (suspect Profile) left on the button snap of the knife sheath.” While police were investigation, Kohberger was driving home to Pennsylvania for winter break. Police got a DNA sample from the trash of the family home. On Dec. 27, police collected garbage from outside the Kohberger home. The evidence was sent to the Idaho State Lab for testing and a DNA profile was compared with DNA discovered on the knife sheath. According to the affidavit, the DNA retrieved from the trash indicated a high probability it is from the biological father of the person who left DNA on the knife sheath at the crime scene in Moscow. The other major evidence in the case is the cell phone data. It shows that Kohberger had been in the vicinity of the house where the murders took place at least 12 times in the months before the attack. It also showed that on the night of the killing, Kohberger left his home in Washington after midnight headed toward Idaho. Then his phone was switched off during the time of the killings. Then it was switched back on after the killings and showed him driving back from Idaho to Washington. And he made one more trip. A few hours later, after 9 a.m. on Nov. 13, Kohberger traveled from Pullman to an area close to the crime scene and quickly returned home. On top of all of that, one of the roommates saw the suspect leaving the house the night of the murders. D.M. stated she opened her door for the third time after she heard the crying and saw a figure clad in black clothing and a mask that covered the person’s mouth and nose walking towards her. D.M. described the figure as 5′ 10″ or taller, male, not very muscular, but athletically built with bushy eyebrows. The male walked past D.M. as she stood in a “frozen shock phase.” The male walked towards the back sliding glass door. D.M. locked herself in her room after seeing the male. D.M. did not state that she recognized the male. This leads investigators to believe that the murderer left the scene. What the case is lacking, at least so far, is any clear motive. It’s still not clear whether Kohberger knew any of the victims or why though we do know that investigators have requested the social media information on the three female victims. Search warrants recently executed by Idaho authorities demanded TikTok and Google hand over the user history dating back to January 2021 of three of the four victims: Madison Mogen, 21, Kaylee Goncalves, 21, and Xana Kernodle, 20… Retired FBI agent Jennifer Coffindaffer said the warrants suggest police could be searching for a connection between Kohberger, 28, and his alleged victims that far pre-dates the murders. We’ll have to wait and see what those searches turned up. If Kohberger is arraigned Monday the judge will likely set his trial date at that time. https://www.dailywire.com/news/ex-biden-nuclear-official-sam-brinton-arrested-as-fugitive-from-justice Ex-Biden Nuclear Official Sam Brinton Arrested As ‘Fugitive From Justice’ Sam Brinton, the “nonbinary” activist tapped by Joe Biden for a key nuclear role before he was fired for repeatedly stealing women’s clothes, was arrested Wednesday night as a “fugitive from justice,” The Daily Wire has learned. Cori Bush proposes $14 trillion in federal reparations, says America has 'moral and legal obligation' to pay up 'for the enslavement of Africans Far-left U.S. Rep. Cori Bush proposed $14 trillion in federal reparations Wednesday, saying America has a "moral and legal obligation" to pay up "for the enslavement of Africans." National Public Radio characterized the Missouri Democrat's push as an "effort to see the federal government atone for the practice of chattel slavery and hundreds of years of racist policies that followed." https://twitter.com/i/status/1659175389887864832 - Play Video She added that "America must provide reparations if we desire a prosperous future for all," the outlet added. "We know that we continue to live under slavery's vestiges. We know how slavery has perpetuated Jim Crow. We know how slavery's impacts live on today," Bush added, according to NPR, which also said she cited the racial wealth gap, voter suppression, infant mortality rates, and other negative health outcomes for black people. More from NPR: About three-quarters or more of white adults oppose reparations, and so do a majority of Latinos and Asian Americans. Black Americans overwhelmingly support the proposal, and young people in general are more likely to support cash payments to the descendants of enslaved people than their older counterparts. But more than 90 percent of Republicans say they oppose it, while Democrats are split nearly 50/50 on whether descendants should receive compensation. Bush has been hard at work of late pushing leftist perspectives and policies: She and U.S. Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.) were the only two lawmakers who voted against a resolution Monday to honor law enforcement; this week is "Police Week." Last month Bush suggested in a tweet that Republicans run on a platform that includes "white supremacy" and "gun violence." In January, she angrily lashed out at black Republican Rep. Byron Donalds of Florida, calling him a "prop" for the GOP and and accusing him of backing a "policy agenda intent on upholding and perpetuating white supremacy." https://www.breitbart.com/health/2023/05/17/poll-28-of-canadians-approve-of-assisted-suicide-for-homelessness/ Poll: 28% of Canadians Approve of ‘Assisted Suicide’ for Homelessness Canada’s National Post on Tuesday published the results of a poll that show nearly a third of Canadians believe assisted suicide should be offered to homeless people who are weary of their lives. A fifth of the respondents said Medical Assistance in Dying (MAID) should be offered as an option to anyone, regardless of medical or psychological condition. The poll, conducted by a public opinion firm called Research Co. founded by noted Canadian pollster Mario Canseco, looks like the rapidly approaching bottom of a slippery slope that began when Canada became one of the few countries to legalize assisted suicide for non-medical reasons in 2021. A larger number of countries have legalized euthanasia and assisted suicide — similar but not identical procedures that vary based on how deeply a doctor is involved in the process — for people suffering from severe chronic pain or terminal illnesses. There is constant pressure to “liberalize” the procedure further with arguments that adults of sound mind should be able to request humane medically assisted death for any reason they see fit. In some countries, the requirements for “sound mind” and even “adult” have been challenged. Belgium, for example, allows children of any age to request euthanasia if they have a terminal illness. In February, a Canadian parliamentary committee recommended expanding MAID to allow “mature minors” to request the procedure. Canada lifted the requirement for adults to be suffering from a terminal illness in 2021, and in March 2023 it formally authorized euthanasia for people suffering from mental illnesses, although implementation of that change was pushed back to 2024 at the last minute. Critics of the practice pointed to an explosion of suicides among Canadians as MAID was first destigmatized, and then actively promoted by doctors trained to bring euthanasia up in conversation with patients, rather than waiting for them to make the fateful request. The ensuing surge of assisted suicides was remarkable, as the National Post reported: “While only 2,838 Canadians opted for assisted suicide in the first full year of legalized MAID, as of last count in 2021 that had risen to 10,064 – an increase of 32.4 per cent over just the year before.” When MAID was authorized for people with mental illness, skeptics predicted health officials would see it as a cost-effective method for cleaning out overcrowded clinics. Last August, a Canadian armed forces veteran suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder said he was offered medically assisted suicide by an employee from the Department of Veterans’ Affairs even though he had never expressed any interest in dying. MAID in Canada does not even require supervision by medical doctors, only nurse practitioners, and it is offered to prisoners, a measure even toddler-suicide Belgium balked at. According to the Research Co. poll, 73 percent of Canadians are comfortable with the current state of MAID, and only 16 percent want to put restrictions back in place. The National Post noted a growing number of Canadians across all demographic lines believe assisted suicide should be liberalized even further: Perhaps most strikingly, half of the poll respondents said they were untroubled by reports that people with severe illness are choosing MAID because they cannot obtain the medical treatment they need from Canada’s overstressed socialized medical system. Over half, 51 percent, said they endorsed “inability to receive medical treatment” as a reason for requesting assisted suicide, which will come as grim news to MAID critics who thought killing patients because Canada is running out of medicine would be the last straw. The only place Canada’s enthusiasm for euthanasia appears to falter is the plan to offer MAID to people with mental illness, perhaps because securing legitimate consent from people who are not of sound mind is problematic. Canadian Justice Minister David Lametti said MAID eligibility for the mentally ill was pushed back to March 2024 in order to “provide sufficient time to ensure our health care system fully protects those who may be vulnerable and supports autonomy and freedom of choice.” And now for the run down: https://townhall.com/tipsheet/spencerbrown/2023/05/17/biden-considering-ban-on-chocolate-milk-in-schools-n2623260 As if President Joe Biden and his administration haven't already done enough to make life more difficult and usher in more hardship for the American people, his band of merry muck-ups are now setting their sights on school lunches and toying around with a ban on chocolate milk — as well as strawberry milk and other flavor alternatives — over concerns about added sugars. Yes, the same administration that called it "outrageous" and "immoral" to prevent children from taking life-altering hormones to prevent puberty for the purpose of "transitioning" is worried that milk provided at school might have ill effects on their health. https://townhall.com/tipsheet/rebeccadowns/2023/05/18/marjorie-taylor-greene-files-impeachment-articles-against-joe-biden-and-more-n2623423 Republicans are putting their money with their mouth is when it comes to holding President Joe Biden and his Cabinet accountable. On Thursday morning, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) announced that she was filing articles of impeachment against the president, but he's not the only one. She's also filed impeachment articles against FBI Director Christopher Wray, Attorney General Merrick Garland, Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, and U.S. Attorney Matthew, as part of what she is calling Impeachment Week. During her press conference, the congresswoman referred to the Biden administration as "America last" and argued that it "has been working since January 20, 2021, to systemically destroy this country," specifically when it comes to how his handling of illegal immigration. https://townhall.com/tipsheet/rebeccadowns/2023/05/17/nc-legislature-overrides-governors-veto-making-12-week-abortion-ban-law-n2623365 NC Legislature Overrides Gov. Cooper's Veto, Making 12-Week Abortion Ban the Law In a post-Dobbs v. Jackson world, states are considering abortion legislation at an increasing rate. The latest includes North Carolina, where the state legislature on Tuesday night overrode a veto on a 12-week abortion ban from Gov. Roy Cooper (D-NC). North Carolina is a particularly interesting case as the state "experienced a greater spike in abortions than any other state" in the first two months after Dobbs fell, according to The Washington Post. The new law, S.B. 20, the Care for Women, Children, and Families Act, also provides funding of foster care programs, as well as paid family leave and pregnancy resource centers. It's set to go into effect on July 1, 2023. It was previously covered how the state legislature passed the bill earlier this month. While Cooper was expected to veto the bill, overriding his veto was likely but not necessarily certain. Republicans could only afford to lose one member. The bill was able to become law, though, thanks to members who refused to budge, including Rep. Tricia Cotham, who last month switched from the Democratic Party to the GOP, as Madeline also highlighted.

Air Date 5/9/2023 Today, we take a look at the hyper-polarization of our era and the anti-democratic instincts of the right taking hold in state legislatures. Building on a decade of gerrymandering and voter suppression within a structurally undemocratic American system that has helped Republicans create minority rule in many places and unearned super-majorities in others, they have now turned to simply ejecting their elected political opponents from fully representing their constituents. Another week, another set of traitors that somehow our (compromised) national security institutions were not able to catch in time! This week we take a look at Jake Teixeira, a traitor who leaked classified intelligence documents on Discord and became the new mascot of the far-right, and “Donbass Devushka”, the pathetic online persona of a former Naval official and all-around asshole from New Jersey named Sarah Bils. These two are just the latest iteration of a broader online propaganda initiative, ongoing for over a decade, to weaponize intelligence against Ukraine on behalf of the Kremlin and its American right-wing backers. We look at the long history of intelligence failures that have led us to the point that a bunch of randos in a Discord forum are more in tune with intelligence than our politicians, who behave like characters in a reality TV show. We discuss the lack of accountability from the FBI and DOJ and the complicity of seditionists like Marjorie Taylor Green who recite their little lines in tandem with their task masters. We discuss Wagner Group and other terrorist outlets attacking Ukraine, as well as the slow-moving war itself, and Andrea again implores the US government to give Ukraine the military equipment that it needs so the war will actually end – and the only way it can end with a chance of peace for the world is with a Ukraine win. For our bonus episode, available to Patreon subscribers at the Truth-Teller level and higher, we answer questions from our subscribers about AI and fascism, why Americans don't protest like the French, the Tennessee legislature and the protests, Clarence Thomas, NC Dem turncoat Tricia Cotham, who should primary Biden, the fading career of DeSantis, and more! Rep. Dennis Riddell is known in the General Assembly as legislator for his effectiveness, persistence, and his Christian faith. However, the Alamance County Republican was on a far different path before he was brought to his knees at age 21 and was transformed forever. Rep. Riddell also talks about how he met his wife Polly, a family tragedy they endured, and his career as a social studies teacher, a merchant marine, and as a state legislator. Skye and Brian also unpack a relatively quiet spring break week in North Carolina politics, including the continuing Rep. Tricia Cotham news, a lawsuit filed, a high profile political endorsement, TOTW, and more. The Do Politics Better podcast is sponsored by New Frame, the NC Travel Industry Association, the NC Beer & Wine Wholesalers Association, and the NC Pork Council.
In an insulting piece, longtime Democrat campaign consultant, candidate, and blogger Thomas Mills argues that conspiracy theories being spun by leftists about why Democrat Rep. Tricia Cotham became a Republican are false. He says the reason is not some elaborate scheme concocted before the election, but rather Cotham's personality. Her bombshell decision gives Republicans a veto-proof majority in the chamber, making it easier for them to write their agenda into the law books. Cotham vows to hold onto some of the beliefs that got her elected to a deep-blue district in the Charlotte suburbs. That has political observers wondering: Will she flip on any hot-button issues? WRAL State Government Reporter Will Doran discusses her campaign promises on abortion, guns and schools — and whether they might change.

On the local news roundup, Tricia Cotham switches political parties. CATS receives a warning from the NCDOT after a surprise inspection and Mecklenburg County commissioners react to the revaluation. Plus, Family Dollar founder Leon Levine dies. Guest host Erik Spanberg and local journalists will fill you in on those stories and more.
Days after Rep. Tricia Cotham cited personal attacks as part of her decision to switch to the Republican Party, state Rep. Jason Saine, R-Lincoln, shares his thoughts on today's bitter political environment with WUNC Capitol Bureau Chief Colin Campbell. Saine also talks about the highlights of the newly approved House budget, whether the favorable political landscape for sports betting could lead to casinos, and how the tiny crossroads community of Cat Square got its name.
The business of politics in the apocalypse is better than ever. The utterly macabre is a beautiful thing to behold as our perception of order decays. All around us in population centers we are faced with the signs of collapse. Vandalism is considered artwork, hate crime only applies to some groups, homelessness is a virtue, open drug use is freedom, and endless crime with no consequence is compassion. In fact, it is precisely this compassion that psychopaths and sociopaths exploit in an evil, soulless, attempt to create an environment of suffering. Those lacking emotion and compassion are in essence non-human, controlled by the reptilian brain, i.e. the real basis for the notion that world leaders are controlled by reptilians or demons. And in fact, recent research published in Nature, “explores whether cultural groups invoke the supernatural more to explain natural phenomena (for example, storms, disease outbreaks) or social phenomena (for example, murder, warfare).” The report suggests “Despite the dominance of supernatural explanations of natural phenomena, supernatural explanations of social phenomena were especially prevalent in urbanized societies with more socially complex and anonymous groups.” Phoenix, Arizona, is in the midst of a dangerous, murderous, filthy, drug and disease riddled, crisis. Despite a Maricopa County Superior Court Judge ordering the city to remove the The Zone tent city, a federal judge, per the ACLU, ruled last year that the city cannot enforce such bans. Here you have federal officials, working with local officials, activity attempting to make society a little less civil. In Tallahassee, students took place in an anti-gun march by walking out of school and demanding ‘serious action' against automatic rifles. The march was organized by ‘Students Demand Action', which claims over 110 Americans are killed daily with guns, and more than 200 are shot and wounded. What they fail to mention, however, is that virtually all deaths and injuries are a result of gangs, drugs, general crimes, and suicide. Here you have largely clueless, but kind hearted, kids being exploited to give up basic fundamental rights like that of self defense, when the same anti-gun policy ideologies are responsible for all of the real gun violence. A study from John Jay College of Criminal Justice also just found that New York's bail reform law is intended to support criminals. Research showed that suspects released without bail were more likely to be rearrested for additional felonies and violent crimes, over those who were given bail. Here you have criminals being protected under the guise of supporting poor people. The new mayor of Chicago, Brandon Johnson, walked backed an outright defunding of the police, while calling for social workers and mental health professionals to stop crime. He also wants more detectives to solve crimes. But criminal justice should begin with preventing and discouraging crimes, not trying to figure out who did them after the fact. Crime prevention means persecution of criminals. At Harvard people are upset that more Asian students are being admitted over Black and Latino, neglecting to ask about performance, while the SCOTUS is preparing a decision to determine if affirmative action is actually discrimination against Asian students. In Pima County, Arizona, officials except an explosion of migrants with the ending of Title 42, with jumps expected from 200-700 per day up to 1500 or more per day. This would absolutely overwhelm county services which already hand out food, hygiene, clothes, housing, etc., as if it were Halloween candy, while law abiding legal citizens struggle to pay rent, or buy the same things given out for free. Here we have a blatant disregard for citizens with special treatment given to illegals due to their proclivity to vote a certain way. For all Arizona heard about democracy in the election of a governor, the current executive refuses to sign bills passed by republicans, when they help citizens, because they won't allocate more money for non-citizens. People support this by justifying higher taxes to pay for unnamed things. Tricia Cotham, a Democratic legislator from North Carolina, perhaps summed up the situation best when she announced her switch to the Republican party: “If you don't do exactly what the Democrats want you to do, they will try to bully you. They will try to cast you aside,” they villainize anyone who has free thought, free judgement, has solutions.” In all of these cases it's as if common sense is non-existent, as if a cult is in control that wishes to see everyone suffer in an ever changing hierarchy of severity. This makes some consider the possibility that this cult is ruled by supernatural forces.
Every week is a banger in North Carolina politics, but this one outdid itself. State Rep. Tricia Cotham dropped the biggest bombshell in legislative politics in 20 years. The House passed its budget. Half a dozen LGBTQ bills hit. Plus: Bills moved to limit voting by mail, to add a new tax on Uber and Lyft rides and to help the family of a police officer killed in a mass shooting. WRAL Capitol Bureau Chief Laura Leslie and WRAL State Government Reporter Travis Fain break it down in this episode of The Wrap.

Today's headlines: Former VP Mike Pence will comply with a judge's order to testify in the DOJ special counsel investigation into January 6th, but Trump may continue to appeal. Meanwhile, progressive candidate Brandon Johnson has won the mayoral election in Chicago. The Wisconsin Republicans have gained a supermajority in the state senate, allowing them to impeach elected officials. Democratic state lawmaker Tricia Cotham has defected to the Republican party, giving the Republicans a veto-proof supermajority in both chambers of the North Carolina legislature. A new report from Maryland's attorney general reveals that Catholic Church officials in Baltimore covered up sexual abuse of over 600 children for 60 years. Finally, the chairwoman of the Florida Democratic Party and the state Senate Minority Leader were arrested and charged with trespassing after refusing to leave a protest in Tallahassee. North Carolina Rep. Tricia Cotham made national news when she switched her party affiliation and became a Republican yesterday. The move gave the GOP a supermajority in the House to override the Democratic Governor's veto. But unless Cotham changes her political philosophy, her vote isn't a sure thing in all cases. Cotham's flip seems to be a response to personal insults, threats, and abuse from the political Left. It's Thursday, April 6th, A.D. 2023. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard at www.TheWorldview.com. I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Jonathan Clark First Muslim leads Scotland Last Wednesday, Humza Yousaf was sworn in as Scotland's new leader. According to Reuters, he is the first Muslim to head a democratic western European government. However, Yousaf is committed to leftist social values like protecting sexually perverted lifestyles and decriminalizing the murder of unborn babies. He also pledged support for a ban on conversion therapy that the Scottish legislators said they will bring forward this year. Conversion therapy involves helping someone change their so-called sexual orientation or gender identity after they request help to do so. In response, a coalition of 20 church leaders sent a letter to the legislature. They wrote that a ban “would go far beyond outlawing abuse and coercion; instead, it would criminalize ordinary Christians and church leaders for expressing mainstream, orthodox belief.” Trump's speech after New York arraignment On Tuesday night, after former president Donald Trump's arraignment in New York City on 34 felony counts, he flew back to Palm Beach, Florida where he delivered a 30-minute speech to supporters from Mar-a-Lago, reports The Epoch Times. TRUMP: “I never thought anything like this could happen in America. The only crime that I have committed is to fearlessly defend our nation from those who seek to destroy it. (applause) “From the beginning, the Democrats spied on my campaign. Remember that? They attacked me with an onslaught of fraudulent investigations. Russia, Russia, Russia. Ukraine, Ukraine, Ukraine. Impeachment hoax #1. Impeachment hoax #2. The illegal and unconstitutional raid on Mar-a-Lago, right here. (crowd boos) “The lying to the [Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act] courts. The FBI and DOJ relentlessly pursuing Republicans. The unconstitutional changes to election laws by not getting approvals from state legislators. The millions of votes illegally stuffed into ballot boxes, and all caught on government cameras. And, just recently, the FBI and DOJ, in collusion with Twitter and Facebook, in order not to say anything bad about the Hunter Biden laptop, which exposes the Biden family as criminals in which according to the pollsters would have made a 17-point difference in the election result. And we needed a lot less than that!” Mental issues precede gender transition of white female girls Researchers from Northwestern University released a study last week about people pretending to be the opposite sex. It was based on parental reports on 1,500 children who have experienced gender confusion. The study found girls of European descent represented the vast majority of cases. The average age when a case began was 14.8 years. Most parents of girls with gender confusion said their daughter had a mental health history. On average, mental health issues surfaced 3.8 years before gender confusion began. Most parents also reported experiencing pressure from a “gender clinic or specialist” to “transition” their child. In Mark 10:6, Jesus said, “But from the beginning of the creation, God ‘made them male and female.'” After bullying, North Carolina Democrat becomes Republican A North Carolina state representative announced yesterday that she is leaving the Democratic Party and becoming a Republican. The move gives the GOP veto-proof control in the state legislature. Rep. Tricia Cotham said she and her family have been bullied and attacked by Democrats for her attempts to work across the aisle. Listen to her share what the deal breaker was for her. COTHAM: “One of the absolute worst moments, which was a deal breaker, a turning point for me, was when I was criticized for using the American flag and the praying hands emoji on all my social media platforms, and even on the back of different vehicles that I have. I really could not believe that was the conversation that was happening at that time. And I was deeply offended. I am proud to be an American. I am proud of our country. I'm proud of the men and women in my family who have served.” Pro-abortion judge beat pro-life judge for Wisconsin Supreme Court Pro-abortion Judge Janet Protasiewicz beat pro-life candidate Dan Kelly in the Wisconsin Supreme Court election on Tuesday. The pro-death judge will replace a conservative justice who is retiring, swinging the court to a 4-to-3 liberal majority. The court is likely to hear a case soon challenging a state law protecting the unborn. Protasiewicz outspent Kelly in what was the most expensive state Supreme Court race in U.S. history. The total came out to over $42 million spent, according to the nonprofit Wisconsin Democracy Campaign. COVID pandemic heightened loneliness The response to the COVID-19 pandemic had an effect on loneliness in America. A study by Gallup found that 17% of adults experience daily loneliness as of February, down from 25% during pandemic shutdowns. The report also found people were more likely to report daily loneliness if they lived in big cities and were single. The study correlated the two findings. It revealed “that those who live in the most sparsely populated areas are also the least likely to feel loneliness. … Higher percentages of rural populations [are] married [with] children at home than what is found in urban environments.” Weekly religious attendance down since COVID And finally, a new study from Pew Research looked at the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on religious attendance in America. The percentage of those who attended services in person took a hit at the start of the pandemic dropping to 13%. It's back up to 28% but has plateaued. Live-streaming services have decreased from 36% to 24% now. And the percentage of those who say they participate in services virtually or in person has remained steady at about 40%. Overall, religious attendance declined slightly since the pandemic. In 2019, 33% of adults said they attended religious services at least monthly. That number is down to 30% now. Hebrews 10:24-25 says, “Let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another.” Close And that's The Worldview in 5 Minutes on this Thursday, April 6th in the year of our Lord 2023. Tricia Cotham has decided to change her party affiliation from Democrat to Republican. Axios reports: A North Carolina Democratic lawmaker is expected to flip her party affiliation, multiple Republicans with knowledge of the discussions tell Axios. The move would cement Republicans' toe-hold in a fast-changing swing state, handing them a veto-proof majority in the middle of the legislative session and a clear runway to enact their agenda despite opposition from Democratic Gov. Roy Cooper. Republicans, who are currently just one seat short of a supermajority in the legislature, have been hoping that state Rep. Tricia Cotham, a Democrat from Charlotte, might switch parties at some point this session, but the prospect began to seem more realistic last week, a Republican House member said. Plus, more on the Donald Trump indictment. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
