Subscriber-only episodeSend us a textStrap in, team—we're back in the team room with retired Chief Ivan Ruiz, legendary PJ, Katrina rescuer, INDOC instructor, and all-around certified badass. We're talking about the upcoming PJ Rodeo, but let's be honest, this episode quickly turns into a firestorm of nostalgia, brutal honesty, and unapologetic takes on what's going right—and VERY wrong—with Air Force Special Warfare. From the high-angle ropes event at South Point Casino to shooting comps, Monster Mash med drills, and jump events open to the public, this year's rodeo isn't just a reunion—it's a mission. We highlight why the Association and Foundation still matter, why the new pipeline model might be wrecking community culture, and why having your mom at your recruiter meeting might be the red flag of the century. We also get real about silent professionals, the identity crisis in AFSPECWAR, and the gut punch of watching “toughness” get traded for lab coats and PowerPoints.
Send us a textIn this heartwarming, sarcastic, slightly chaotic episode, Trent joins M42 Adventures to unpack 20 years of Air Force Special Warfare—and the wild decision-making process that got him there. Spoiler alert: It all started because he hated being told what to do... so naturally, he joined the military. We dive into what makes someone pursue a path where 90% of people fail, why burning your life down might be the best prep for basic training, and how Ones Ready accidentally became a podcast that survived five years, a global war, and zero profits. This is an episode for the ones who never fit the mold, who failed college but found meaning in uniform, and who figured out that purpose doesn't come from clout—it comes from hard lessons, late nights, and unshakable discipline. And yeah, maybe a little stubbornness, too.
Kelsee Moore, a strength and conditioning coach for Air Force Special Warfare, approaches health and fitness holistically. As a US Army officer, she promotes a mindful lifestyle that combines ancestral practices with modern training techniques to enhance performance and well-being. For part 2 of this conversation, Kelsee addresses the training gaps for female athletes and service members, highlighting the physiological differences between genders. She shares practical, inclusive strategies for strength training while also discussing the negative impact of "big fitness," which can amplify societal insecurities. Kelsee advocates for individuals to embrace their bodies and health through a lens of identity in Christ to find value over the noise or hope of the next weight-loss “super pill.” Episode Show Notes on Living Wisely Well Website Connect with Kelsee on Instagram

We did a contracting episode a few weeks ago where we aired out a few grievances mostly focused on how strength and conditioning coaches in contracted roles with the military are treated. In that conversation we acknowledged that we have limited experience with contracting, and we were open to having an expert come on and set the record straight. As it happens, this week's guest is exactly the kind of expert we were looking for. Chris Larkin is LMR Technical Group CEO and Cofounder and his background covers enlisted and officer service in Air Force Special Warfare and extensive involvement in military human performance in multiple different roles. Chris spent 28 years total in the Air Force as an enlisted Combat Controller and Special Tactics Officer, starting to advocate for military human performance initiatives even before commissioning. He served as the first Squadron Commander at the Special Tactics Training Squadron and helped establish the Combat Athlete Program (which pre-dated SOCOM POTFF) working with AF Research Lab and USAFA Human Performance Lab. He had HPO specific facilities built at the STTS and 23 Special Tactics Squadron – some of the first built in the DoD and even ran one of the first ever Human Performance Symposiums (bringing in industry, academia, and other military units to help solve HPO problems). He wrote his thesis at the Joint Advanced Warfighting School (JAWS) on “Combat Fitness a Concept Vital to National Defense” and was an Operational Squadron commander when POTFF came to AFSOC and even deployed HPO staff into Afghanistan to expedite the recovery process. His credentials include a bachelors in Exercise Science, Master Fitness Trainer, ACSM Exercise Leader, and USA Triathlon Coach. He's also an accomplished athlete in his own right. He ran Division 1 Cross Country and Southwest Texas State University. He has represented the Air Force in downhill skiing, triathlon, pentathlon, and Ironman - including 3 Ironman finishes. And he has 3,000 parachute jumps – including numerous demonstrations at events including NFL, MLB, NASCAR.

Recently the Commander of AFSOC, Air Force Special Operations Command, sent a letter to his chain of command asking for the combat dive school and qualification to be removed from the Air Force Special Warfare pipeline. Specifically affected are Special Tactics Officers, Combat Controllers, and Special Reconnaissance career fields. Obviously, this has caused a lot of flail in the communities. Aaron and Trent have been tracking this issue since it dropped, but we wanted to get you the best possible information now that the smoke has cleared a little bit.We are sure that the comments section will be packed with people respectfully discussing their feelings. 00:00 Trent takes the intro, and proceeds to make several bad puns06:20 Trent and Aaron explain the reasoning behind the requests and the dive qualification11:00 Army SF and Dive Teams 22:30 Problem 3 - Attrition rates will go down without dive school and dive training, water con stress39:00 Check out drinkhoist.com and use code OnesReady at checkout! 41:30 AETC and removing dive in reality 51:00 Why weren't PJ's mentioned in the memo?57:00 The Bottom Line 1:00:15 Trent and Aaron talk about the internet and how Chief Cheifed us1:03:00 Mission MercCollabs:18A Fitness - Promo Code: 1ReadyAlpha Brew Coffee Company - Promo Code: ONESREADYATAC Fitness - Promo Code: ONESREADY10CardoMax - Promo Code: ONESREADYEberlestock - Promo Code: OR10Hoist - Promo Code: ONESREADYStrike Force Energy - Promo Code: ONESREADYTrench Coffee Company - Promo Code: ONESREADYGrey Man Gear - Promo Code: ONESREADY The content provided is for informational purposes only and does not constitute legal advice. This episode is a crossover between the Instagram version of MOPs & MOEs (punchy, oversimplified, sometimes deliberately instigating, etc.) and the podcast version of MOPs & MOEs (more thought out, addressing nuance, etc.). I (Alex) recently connected with Taylor Starch over a discussion about spinal flexion in strength training. Seeing some of Taylor's subsequent content got me thinking about the outsized influence of powerlifting on strength and conditioning in general, and especially the tactical space. While powerlifting is not alone in this, it does seem to face the least scrutiny - squat, bench, and deadlift are broadly accepted as the core of strength and conditioning. If you missed my post articulating this, this episode is essentially a discussion about how that conversation rapidly devolved. Since Taylor sent me down this rabbit hole in the first place, we thought we'd include him in the discussion, and he added some really interesting perspective. Taylor Starch has his bachelors in health and exercise science and health promotion from Colorado State, where he was on the cycling team and competed at the national level. Since then he has accumulated roughly fifteen years of experience from personal training to running his own company and now to tactical. His last six years spent in tactical have included time with Air Force Special Warfare and currently with the 56th Fighter Wing. Along the way he has acquired an astonishingly extensive list of professional certifications, and if you follow him you'll quickly learn that he's a big trail runner. You can find Taylor on Instagram Drew mentioned an Elon Musk video discussing first principles Alex mentioned a study showing mixed results from the Tactical Athlete Performance Center
Changes in Air Force Special Warfare are coming fast and furious. Just recently, we had a podcast with Jarred Taylor where we dove deep into where we thought TACP was going, what fight would be next- and honestly, there wasn't a lot of agreement across the board. So, naturally, we wanted to peel back the layers of everything we are doing and explain it all to you so you have the absolute ground truth. We cover a lot of ground here and talk about every change from the first time you talk to a recruiter until you put on a beret. Problem-solving and the right mindset are two things that every candidate needs to be successful. We have a special episode drop of Chasin' Birdies today with Mark Brant. We need to pay homage to the troops and those who protect this great Country, and no better way to show that love than with a guy whose golf career came AFTER the military. We open up the episode and discuss with Mark his college days at Murray State and how he transitioned over to the Air Force Special Warfare division. A Pararescueman (aka PJ) is not the route everyone wants to take. For Mark, it was in his blood, and he took on the role without any questions. The episode transitions into some battle stories, and we ask Mark about what it's like jumping out of a plane in the middle of nowhere. We also can't help but ask novice questions like, “Do you carry your cell phone when jumping?”After some military talk, we turn over to the golf side of things, where we learn about where Mark is right now relative to where he wants to be with his professional golf career. The New Year is the time we all commit to eating less and working out more. We commit to improving our fitness and health. For some, it lasts all year. For many a few months, maybe a few weeks, and for others - just a few days. To talk about fitness and goals in 2022, host Fran Racioppi asked Founder of 18A Fitness, and fellow Green Beret, Kevin Edgerton to join him on this New Year's episode to reminisce about their glory days as Green Berets, discuss a renewed commitment to fitness as the clock strikes January, and to share what it takes to try out for, and become, one of nation's most precious assets - a Special Operations Warrior. Kevin served 26 years in the US Army as both enlisted and as an officer. He developed the human performance training programs for Army Special Forces Groups and the Air Force Special Operations Air Wings. He has since retired and founded 18A Fitness, an app-based, customized training platform to prepare any warrior for the grueling selection courses of the Green Berets, Army Rangers, Navy SEALS, Marine Raiders or Air Force Special Operations Air Wings.
