It is the duty of parents to nurture and guide their children. Yet, some parents teach in a way that harms their children, leaving them with a traumatic experience they can carry with them as they grow up. We may be quick to label them as terrible parents, but looking back, we can see that those parents were also subjected to abusive environments from their very own parents, which caused them to be who they are and pass it on to their children. Dennis Morolda shares his life experiences of growing up perceiving love from his father based on how well he made things, being bullied at school, and having a people-pleasing mindset. Listen in to find out why surrounding yourself with mentors and role models will help you build experience and a strong leadership mindset, how Dennis forgives his father, and why writing your story will help you heal. Quotes: “When you're going through experiences as a young man, the experiences that you have changed how your brain is wired and how it is made up. And so, for you guys having this experience with unbelievable mentors and role models here, it's really serving to develop your brain in a way where you will become that strong leader.” – Dennis Morolda “It's okay to express emotion and express that vulnerability. It took me a long time to recognize that it is a strength to be able to show your vulnerability.” –Dennis Morolda “The other thing that's really helped me is writing stuff down; that's what I did initially. When I finally got through it, I wrote down this entire story from start to finish. And once you can write it down and get it out of your head, it doesn't stay stuck in there or bounce around in your head anymore. So I wrote it down. And I read it out loud. And I've read it to other people. And it helped me heal.” – Dennis Morolda Takeaways: Your experiences as a man will shape how your brain works. And so, surrounding yourself with great mentors and role models will help you develop a brain of a future strong leader. Don't be afraid to show your feelings. It is not a weakness: instead, it is a strength to be capable of conveying your vulnerabilities. Writing down your story will help you heal from your bad experiences because it enables you to let go and free your mind from negativity. Conclusion: Understanding your parents' actions on why they are raising you in such a negative manner is the key to forgiving them. And as you know your parents, it is on you to determine how to shift and move forward, not take your parents' bad habits, and instead be a better man.

Part 1 of 2 with THE LEGEND - Johnny Elsasser.  As a long time fan of Johnny's podcast - The Art of Masculinity, it was an honor to have the opportunity to interview him.  The story begins with not knowing. Johnny's parents divorced when he was about 14 and he didn't really care to be around either. At one point Johnny found myself living in a tent in his aunt and uncle's backyard. He came to the end of high school and realized he did nothing to set himself up for the future nor did he even know where to go. So, he ended up in the one place he never could of imagined…the U.S. Army recruiting office.  This was 2004, early in the Iraq war and Johnny was a tall, skinny kid, in great shape from soccer, but no military pedigree whatsoever. He chose to create a future in the U.S. Army and in a fortuitous way, ended up in the elite 2nd Battalion 75th Ranger Regiment. Johnny found a purpose here and found something bigger than himself. As he excelled at being in special operations the time came when he left to work as a contractor protecting the U.S. Ambassador to Iraq. Johnny did this for 5 years after the military and in this effort, his purpose and life remained similar as the paramilitary role held similarities to full time military. However, when he left to be part of normal society, the transition was extremely arduous.Johnny finally began to listen, to read, to understand that he hadn't defined myself as a man in today's world. He hadn't taken inventory and created the man he wanted to be and therefore, he could never show up with the power and confidence he had in Battalion.Johnny  realized that if he was struggling with this, not only are his brothers but also many men in this world who were taught they couldn't expose their vulnerability for fear of being looked at as less than. Johnny took that moment to decide that he needed to help men, he needed to show his background and say that men of all backgrounds have the ability to struggle and that we are not alone. By banding together, learning from one another, and embracing our individual authenticity is the way that we become our best version and we influence the next generation of a healthy and strong masculinity for years to come.Johnny's WebsiteJohnny's InstagramDesign The Man Within BookTHE FOUNDATION - Virtual Community for Young MenBuilding Men InstagramBuilding Men WebsiteBuilding Men YouTubeBuilding Men FacebookWork with Dennis as your 1 on 1 coach If our podcast resonates with you, please consider rating, reviewing and sharing it with anyone who you believe would benefit from the message.Visit our sponsors - Finish The Race – Home of the official Building Men gear

DENNIS MOROLDAJoin Wes Tankersley on this episode of Shaping Success as he speaks to Dennis Morolda about his story of success of teaching young men how to be men.Dennis grew up playing sports in South New Jersey and asked himself what is a man and how should men act since he had a troubled relationship with his father. He went to College in South Jersey and majored in Education and Sociology.  His path to success started when he did an internship helping At Risk boys as an Assistant Group Counselor. He interacted with kids who had trouble with the law and came from single family homes with absent or non-competent fathers. His job at the time was to observe how the counselors interacted with the kids. Eventually he was hired as a van driver. He went to school at his college then pick up the kids from their homes in the bad areas, take them to where they would have their sessions, then drive them home. He found that these drives home were therapy sessions for the kids.  The kids would open up to him and tell him things they weren't telling the licensed therapists. He realized that this was his calling and became his living passion. His third day of teaching was September 11, 2001. The World Trade Center could be seen from the school. This event made him realize the kids need the following things: A need to be heard, competence, fun, relationships, a feeling of community, and safety which is the most important.  Dennis set himself up for success by realizing he loved leadership, so he got his Masters in Educational Leadership to become a principal. He taught for 4 ½ years  before becoming an assistant principal in 2005. The kids getting into trouble were 90% boys, and he knew something had to be done. No one was doing anything, so he decided to start a boys social group called Building Men. There would be 20 to 25 boys would meet an hour before school. There he did team building where the boys would talk about what is happening in their lives.  Dennis asked them what does it mean to be a man? Success meaning for these boys was to be bigger, faster, stronger, six-pack abs, beards and tattoos, and many sexual conquests. They also said it was accumulation of material things such as cars, money, and houses. Dennis pointed out that these things can be easiCheck out our sponsor The Warriors Collection for coffee, gear and more use code TANK at check out for a special Discount! https://warriorscollectionbrand.com/ Check out our sponsor Tattooed and Successful @tattoedandsuccessfulco use code TANK at check out for a special Discount! https://tattooedandsuccessful.com/Support the showFor merchandise, podcast and youtube: https://linktr.ee/wes.tankersley Join the Success Warrior Crew Facebook Group https://www.facebook.com/groups/successwarriorcrew/ This Episode of Shaping Success is brought to you by Terry Levy at Parkway Chevrolet in Tomball Texas. What a cool experience, sitting next to my son Denny as my cohost, interviewing a man who wrote a book about reconnecting with his father!  I am grateful for every minute I spend with my son, but having him next to me during a podcast is a very impactful experience.  In this episode we speak with military veteran and author, Mike Liguori about his experience in the marines, his battle with depression and how reconnecting with his father changed his life.  After being on the brink of suicide induced by years of PTSD from fighting in Iraq with the Marines, a series of supernatural interventions saved Mike Liguori's life. His military service and deployments to a war zone were not by accident. He had engaged and often ran away from his enemies long before and after the war within the shadow of his past. His most recent book, The Road Ahead and Miles Behind: A Story of Healing and Redemption Between Father and Son chronicles the story of a cross-country road trip taken during the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic with one of the darkest shadows of his past, his relationship with his father. The Road Ahead and Miles Behind shares the intricate yet beautiful nature between them as they look to reconcile their differences and amend a challenging past. The book is full of inspiring moments and perspectives that demonstrate the healing power of hard conversations with those you love. It's a story that will remind you it's never too late to have something with your parents. His journey of service and writing has been featured on the San Jose Mercury, Huffington Post Live, and Conscious Magazine.Website: mikeliguori.comInstagram: @mike.liguoriAmazon: https://amzn.to/3GYdfKFBarnes and Noble: https://bit.ly/3EasdLrBuilding Men InstagramBuilding Men WebsiteBuilding Men YouTubeBuilding Men FacebookAnthony Morolda InstagramBook a free coaching call with Dennis Join the Tribe of Brothers Virtual Coaching Group for Young MenIf our podcast resonates with you, please consider rating, reviewing and sharing it with anyone who you believe would benefit from the message.Visit our sponsors - Finish The Race – Home of the official Building Men gearBecome Stronger Industries - use code "buildingmen" for 10% off your order

An awesome episode chopping it up with Dennis Morolda, a great leader and role model committed to building young men and providing them the tools to grow and thrive.   Growing up in New Jersey, Dennis faced bullying and trauma that shaped his childhood and early career decisions. He went to college where he pursued a degree in education and and quickly moved from the classroom to the administration side of education. This experience gave him great insight into what was lacking in the approach to building up strong young men and Dennis built his own program he called Building Men to fill the gap.  Despite the impact it was having, the administration told him to shut it down and focus on standardized test scores.  Something had to give and Dennis decided to leave the comforts of a high paying job, benefits and a retirement plan to pursue  his hero's journey of bringing his program to the world. Building Men has become a podcast, as well as 1:1 and 1:many coaching  programs where Dennis and his brother Anthony are focused on helping men become the most extraordinary version of themselves mentally, emotionally, spiritually and physically.  It hasn't been easy and Dennis has battled through various setbacks in pivoting toward his authentic self and his passion and commitment for making a true difference in the lives of others.  You'll be amazed and inspired when you hear his awesome story!Eric Sardina Executive Life CoachingFeelings stuck, empty or out-of-sync at work, at home, or in your relationships?  As a business and life coach, I help individuals work through these feelings towards authentic lives of meaning and purpose.  I work with organizations to help them optimize their teams and individual contributors.  Click here to book a FREE 30 minute coaching discovery call with Eric: https://calendly.com/ericsardina/free-30-minute-coaching-discovery-callFollow Eric here: Instagram: @Eric_sardina26.2 Facebook: Eric SardinaLinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/ericsardina/ Follow Dennis here:Instagram: @building.menYouTube: Building Men ( https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCEuPdl3WzRhjhUqIF0lWI-g/videos)Facebook: @buildingmencoach Website: https://www.buildingmen.io

We know it is a going to be a great podcast when it feels like a few guys hanging out, busting balls, shooting the shit and getting real.  It was an absolute honor to chop it up with Cameron and JP (creators of the Shepherds of Men Movement).  These men are doing extremely important work - Redefining masculinity & calling MEN to something greater! Cameron and JP believe that when we get the MEN right we get the world right! Because of this belief, they created Shepherds of MEN in an effort to eliminate weakness and entitlement in MEN. What makes their message unique is that, although they come from drastically different backgrounds, their core principles have given them a unified voice that is needed more than ever to pave the way for a fundamental change in today's culture. What do Cameron and JP believe?Cameron Brown - To be an example, in all areas of my life, for the next generation of men. To live a life that is edifying to my Creator and to my family and to all those that may be influenced by my actions and my attitude. To be a servant leader, putting others before self. To show real love. Not the weak, emotional kind. The kind that stretches people outside of their comfort zone so they can live a life of greatest and then pass that on to the next generation.Josh Persons - My purpose in life is to inspire and empower other men through a multitude of avenues. I intend to raise the standards of what a real man is while creating an outlet for young men to see what good looks like. This work will create a culture where men take responsibility and pride in the domain which they have been blessed to rule.Shepherds of Men InstagramShepherds of Men WebsiteBuilding Men InstagramBuilding Men WebsiteBuilding Men YouTubeBuilding Men FacebookAnthony Morolda InstagramBook a free coaching call with Dennis Join the Tribe of Brothers Virtual Coaching Group for Young MenIf our podcast resonates with you, please consider rating, reviewing and sharing it with anyone who you believe would benefit from the message.Visit our sponsors - Finish The Race – Home of the official Building Men gearBecome Stronger Industries - use code "buildingmen" for 10% off your order

The concept of Building Men started in 2005, when as a middle school assistant principal Dennis recognized the struggles that the boys in his school were facing. The young men were experiencing disciplinary incidents, suspensions, truancy, failing grades, retention and classification into special education at an alarming level when compared to their female counterparts. Dennis used his background in adolescent development, sociology and mental health to develop the framework for a social group to address what it meant to be a man in society. Dennis now works with individuals, schools and organizations all over the country providing professional development, assembly programming, motivational speaking and life coaching. When we look at the idea of masculinity as a whole, it is easy to see that somewhere along the way, our path as men became challenged & confused. A path that was once focused upon concepts of being centered in ourselves, acting as pillars of strength for those we love & being compassionate warriors for the world at large became refocused into concepts of aggression towards one another & ego driven insecurities presenting themselves in a way that has led to masculinity being represented by words such as “toxic” & “unhealthy.” The most unfortunate aspect of these challenges is that, in reality, this is simply a misnomer of what true divine masculinity is. In the present day, however, there are many men who are doing their part in helping their fellow brothers re-establish what it means to be a man for themselves & those they love & one of the leading warriors of that charge is todays guest on the show. His business, “Building Men”, which he co-created with his dear brother, was a result of seeing first hand while working as a middle school assistant principal the degree to which the boys in his school were facing struggles. The result of these challenges included disciplinary incidents, suspensions & failing grades, to name but a few. He knew he had to do something to be a part of the change that was so desperately needed in the lives of men of all ages & began the quest of taking action to do just that. The action he has taken has allowed him to work with individuals, schools & organizations all over the country & provide support in the realms of professional development, motivational speaking & life coaching for men to take their power back & become the heroes of their own lives. In addition to this, he & his business partner, Anthony, also speak to these challenges with leading experts on their podcast, the building men podcast, which I highly recommend & which can be found on Spotify, Apple podcasts & many other platforms as well. This episode was produced by Mazel Tov Media in Quincy, Massachusetts.

We Serve by Loving, Teaching and Protecting with Angelo SiscoAngelo Sisco is an international speaker, guide, and head coach at Alpha Hippie. Angelo has dedicated himself to empowering men who are overwhelmed and are stuck in a cycle of stress and burnout. Angelo has helped thousands of men reconnect to their mission and rebuild their lifestyle so they can enjoy their lives and get back to crushing it both personally and professionally. On October 15th, 2002, Angelo Sisco was involved in a hit and run motorcycle accident that changed his life forever. In an instant, he went from being a 20-year-old entrepreneur to someone fighting to save his leg and his way of life. After 8 surgeries, two months in a hospital bed, 5 months of daily rehab and the encouraging news from his doctors that any kind of athletics is permanently out of the question, Angelo fell into a deep depression. In 2009 he discovered CrossFit and everything changed once again. He had a new focus. He had a new purpose. He lost 100 pounds, which catapulted a 10-year journey that he couldn't even imagine. During the 2010's, Angelo opened O'Hare CrossFit and CrossFit Harwood Heights, consulted over 400 CrossFit Affiliates worldwide, co-founded Lifestyle Nutrition and Conquer Athlete, became an international speaker on how to succeed as an Affiliate owner, and coached multiple CrossFit Games competitors.Angelo's success in coaching and business gave him the confidence to begin what he would consider his most important journey of them all; his self-development, which he began in 2015.  After years of deep inner work, reflection, and growth Angelo titled his journey of self-discovery, Alpha Hippie. In true Angelo Sisco fashion, he followed what inspired him and began sharing his message through his podcast Alpha HIppie, and began mentoring other men on their path to self-discovery. In late 2019, Angelo realized he was at a crossroads in his career.  A choice had to be made; to either stay in a place of comfort or to step into the identity that was calling him: Alpha Hippie.  Angelo chose to step fully into Alpha Hippie.  In 2020, the most unprecedented time in our recent history, Angelo removed himself from all business ventures that were CrossFit related, moved his new family to San Clemente, California, and partnered up with Markus Gerszi and Ryan Bucciantini to embark on a renewed and more focused version of Alpha Hippie. Alpha Hippie's mission is to help overwhelmed men over 30, who are stuck in stress and burnout, reconnect to their mission and rebuild their lifestyle, so they can enjoy their free time again and get back to crushing it at work. Alpha Hippie share's their mission via their men's Facebook group “The Way of the Courageous Man”, the Alpha Hippie Podcast, and their world-class program for men entitled Alpha Hippie Mastery. In his free time, Angelo loves to travel, eat great food, and spend quality time with the people closest to him. The Alpha Hippie InstagramThe Alpha Hippie - YoutubeThe Alpha Hippie WebsiteBuilding Men YouTubeBuilding Men FacebookBuilding Men InstagramBuilding Men WebsiteBuildingmencoach@gmail.comCheck out our sponsor – type BUILDINGMEN at checkout for 15% off your purchasehttps://gmrevolution.com/GM Revolution Instagram

Dr. Michael Fowlin,Michael Fowlin, better known as Mykee, is no stranger to the stage. He has been formally acting since age 11, but started creating voices (via prank calling) at age 9. In addition to his talents on stage, he has an undergraduate degree in psychology from Evangel University, in Springfield, Missouri, and in the fall of 2001, he attained a doctorate degree in clinical psychology from Rutgers University. Oddly enough, he suffers from delusions of grandeur, for, while performing, he is convinced that every audience member is his patient. His programs combine both his professional acting talents and his psychological training. His mission is to create an atmosphere of worldwide inclusion, not just tolerance, towards all people. He has worked extensively with all age groups in the United States and in other countries. His work has included peer mediation, diversity trainings, gender equity workshops, and violence prevention seminars.  He hopes that all audience members will leave his performance with that wonderful, awakening feeling of beauty: the beauty within one's self and the beauty within others; the celebration of our differences, and the acceptance of our shared experiences.Mykee Fowlin's InstagramMykee Fowlin's WebsiteBuilding Men YouTubeBuilding Men FacebookBuilding Men InstagramBuilding Men WebsiteBuildingmencoach@gmail.comCheck out our sponsor – type BUILDINGMEN at checkout for 15% off your purchasehttps://gmrevolution.com/GM Revolution Instagram

“I learned many great lessons from my father–not the least of which is that you can fail at what you don’t want, so you might as well take a chance on doing what you love.” - Jim Carrey It’s downright scary to take a deep look at what needs to change in your life, as Dennis Morolda and host Ian Lobas know only too well. A former public school teacher, coach and principal, Dennis works with individuals, schools and organizations all over the country providing professional development, assembly programming, motivational speaking and life coaching. Dennis is also the host of the Building Men Podcast, a motivational destination for real talk about purpose, mindset, relationships, connections and the foundational building blocks to success. In this episode, Dennis speaks candidly about how finding his purpose, after 20 years in the field of education, has transformed his life. While he was an assistant principal and later a principal, Dennis noticed there was a high number of adolescent boys with disciplinary and truancy problems, as well as failing grades. He started a social group called “Building Men '' for boys in the 6th to 9th grades. They discussed accountability, respect, responsibility, discipline, relationships, perseverance and masculinity. In his commencement speech at Maharishi University, actor Jim Carrey told graduates, “So many of us choose our path out of fear disguised as practicality.” Dennis and Ian discuss how to overcome societal, familial and financial pressures to make changes in your life, with the right systems, procedures and guidance in place.
