Multiple storms will bring rounds of snow, ice and rain from the Midwest to the Northeast as Arctic air briefly surges south, raising risks of slick travel, ice jams and urban flooding into midweek. Communities down the Cape and throughout the South Shore are still cleaning up and trying to recover from Monday’s monster Nor’easter! The historic blizzard that dumped more than 3 feet of snow in some areas caused multiday school closures, roadway hazards, and widespread power outages. Residents in Barnstable County and Plymouth County were hit the hardest with over 95k residents without power in Barnstable County and over 35k residents without power in Plymouth County, as of Wednesday afternoon. The power companies report that some customers might not have their power fully restored till Friday! Rivaling past blizzards on Delmarva, the Blizzard of '26 will be talked about for years to come. Highs winds brought down trees and caused power outages. Heavy snow bands dumped snow at rates similar to lake effect snow events in the Great Lakes. There was even thundersnow! Chief Meteorologist Rich Wirdzek and Meteorologist Jake Grant look at the data from the storm and discuss how this nor'easter was classic textbook in its formation and how this coastal storm impacted the entire region.

Crews have worked to restore power over the course of the week, the situation is increasingly dire for Cape residents. While some in area have taken refuge at overnight shelters, others are clamoring for the few hotel rooms in a region that famously shuts its doors in the offseason.
