How is AI reshaping our relationship with work, and what does that mean for the tools we rely on every day? In this episode of Tech Talks Daily, I'm joined by Cory McElroy, Vice President of Commercial Product Management at HP. Our conversation begins with a reflection on one of the most famous garages in technology history. The original HP garage in Palo Alto is often described as the birthplace of Silicon Valley, and standing there recently reminded me how far the industry has come since those early days. But as Cory explains, we may be entering another turning point. The nature of work has shifted rapidly in just a few years. Hybrid work is now the norm for millions of people, and expectations around workplace technology have changed with it. Employees no longer see technology as a basic productivity tool. They expect it to adapt to them, reduce friction, and help them focus on meaningful work. Cory shares insights from HP's Work Relationship Index, which highlights a striking reality. Only around 20 percent of employees say they have a healthy relationship with work. That number sounds concerning at first, but it also points to an opportunity. When organizations provide the right tools and experiences, employees become more productive, more creative, and more likely to stay. A big theme throughout our conversation is the growing role of AI directly on devices. Running AI locally on PCs changes how people interact with technology. Tasks that once took hours, such as analyzing documents or extracting insights from data, can now happen almost instantly. In some internal deployments at HP, employees reported saving up to four hours each week. We also talk about the hardware innovations that are emerging in response to this shift. Cory explains how new devices like the HP EliteBook X and the EliteBoard reflect a rethink of the PC itself. The EliteBoard, for example, integrates a full PC inside a keyboard, allowing users to connect to any display and instantly access desktop-level performance. It is a design that reflects the flexibility people now expect from modern workspaces. Looking ahead, Cory believes the next few years will bring even bigger change. Devices will increasingly understand context, connect seamlessly with other tools, and respond to natural language requests. Instead of jumping between multiple applications to complete a task, users may simply ask their device to assemble information and produce the outcome they need. So as AI becomes embedded into the devices we use every day and work continues to evolve, what would a truly frictionless workday look like for you, and how will your relationship with technology change as a result?

As the "Curse of the Dukes" continues, we have another massive reveal that occurred so quickly after our latest episode of the show was produced. In the last week, we've learned a lot about Xbox's direction for their future and, to their credit, they're being incredibly direct about it. Introducing Project Helix: the codename for Xbox's next bit of hardware that is capable of playing your PC and console games. Following the announcement, they revealed a chockful of information on their plans at this year's Game Developer Conference. "Xbox Full Screen Experience" has evolved into "Xbox Mode" and that arrives on PC in April. After months of testing on the Xbox Ally, Xbox deems this feature ready for the big leagues. As for the next Xbox itself, alpha versions of the hardware will be out by early 2027 for developers. Is it possible we also see a retail release by holiday 2027? Best of all, there is a tease of more to come with Xbox's backwards compatibility program which has lied dormant for years. Is it possible they have additions in store or maybe (just maybe) achievements being added to classic games? Will these classic games be native to the platform or just streamed? Indeed, there are many questions surrounding the brand, but the wind is blowing in a positive direction for them and that's mostly due to seemingly having their ducks in a row on just how they wanted to communicate what their plans actually are. Xbox may have just signaled the future of its next generation hardware. At GDC this week Microsoft confirmed Project Helix, a next-generation Xbox initiative built around a custom AMD chip and designed to support both console and PC gaming. But what exactly is Helix — a traditional console successor or something closer to a living-room gaming PC? You'll have to forgive me for getting completely sidetracked as we turn to someone who bought a pre-built PC. But not just ANY pre-built. Dude went ALL out with 64 gigs of RAM and a massive 5090 GPU. So, yeah, that kinda grabbed my attention a bit there. Given the times we currently live in when we talk about RAM prices going way up and causing the prices of graphics cards to also increase. All of this was after we started talking about what the next Xbox would likely cost. And what Valve's Steam Machine might also cost. New tech is always exciting but no matter the thrills, the specs, the bells AND the whistles…it'll all get kind of buried under the weight of whatever the price tag is. And that's currently unknown for us. And may be for some time. At any other point in time previous, we'd already know the price. We'd already have the details. But they're taking their time on getting there and it's because of the price of RAM. Full stop. The Switch 2 got in under the gun and, for now, was able to avoid the spike in prices. But that won't last much longer before they have to replenish stock and the price will likely affect that. But Valve’s new PC will be our first look at just how bad it has become. And give us a better idea of what to expect from the next Xbox and the PS6. Start saving. Ubisoft, it's been 4,591 days since a new Splinter Cell game (non-animated series or guest spot in another game franchise, remake, BBC radio drama, or VR exclusive) was released. Also, there's been 1,626 job losses in the gaming industry since January 1, 2026.

The unintentional break has allowed for more time to gestate on the info given by Jason Ronald about Project Helix (the codename for the next Xbox) as Sean and Marc discuss the early details of the console and if they are convinced this is really going to deliver on the promise of Xbox and PC or if this is just sugarcoating the strategy that was already in the works before?
