¿Quién no desea tener amigos?

You'll hear plenty of behind the scenes stories, more Spielberg, Lucas, and Morgan Freeman impressions, some Scott Wampler anecdotes and even a rant about Uwe Boll being terrible. In short, it's a hell of a send off for Josh Robert Thompson as he ends his reign at The Spiel. So, sit back, relax, and get ready to laugh as Vespe and JRT look back at the last year of nerdy Steven Spielberg discussions. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices
Join us and dive headfirst into the chaotic, brain-melting acid trip that is Lucy (2014), Luc Besson's cinematic fever dream starring Scarlett Johansson and Morgan Freeman. Right from the start, we knew we were in for it: bad science, a “sketch services” level plot, and the kind of dialogue that feels like it was written by a dolphin with a grudge. We got the whole gang together to dissect this mess with our usual irreverent flair, roasting everything from the film's lazy international logic to its “USB stick of universal knowledge” ending. Honestly, it was like watching 2001: A Space Odyssey if Kubrick had been blackout drunk and obsessed with PowerPoint transitions. As always, the chaos around the table was half the fun. We went full throttle into the ridiculousness of ScarJo turning into a floating Fred Astaire balloon, controlling time and matter with 20% of her brain (because science), and ultimately becoming “Wi-Fi with titties.” The callbacks and inside jokes were flying faster than Lucy's totally-not-real powers. Between wild tangents about dolphins, King of the Hill, and awkward animal mating montages, it was the most we've ever laughed at a movie that made us question our life choices. The frustration was real though. Dan, our resident physicist, compared the experience to “watching your grandparents get assaulted.” Elise gave us the all-time review of Lucy as “an acid trip with a science fair poster taped to it.” And Manny… well, Manny owned up to nominating this movie after loving it once while, let's say, chemically enhanced. Rewatching it sober? Not so much. We collectively agreed: Lucy was a one-time ride, and even that was one too many. But hey, if you love our affectionate chaos and want to hear us go fully unhinged on a movie that somehow made $469 million worldwide, this episode is an absolute banger. It's the perfect blend of exasperated movie talk, relentless roasting, and pure group therapy. Come for the dolphin trivia, stay for the unfiltered pain. You won't regret listening… just don't watch the movie.
#490 Athlete Success Story Paul Hunziker Welcome Welcome to Episode #490 of the 303 Endurance Podcast. We're your hosts Coaches Rich Soares and April Spilde. Thanks for joining us for another week of interviews, coaching tips and discussion. I am personally very excited about this episode. I have had the privilege of coaching Paul Hunziker since August of 2024. It's not uncommon to have a new athlete and see their training history and see lower than planned training like missed workouts. Paul was the exact opposite. Paul is a workhorse and really needed a coach to reign him in rather than spur him on. Paul recently blew his estimated marathon time by more than 10 minutes with an exceptionally executed pacing and nutrition plan finishing in 3:14:13. We are going to have that interview for your today plus much, much more! Hi Rich! Man, I am so looking forward to talking with Paul and hearing about his marathon journey and all the growth in between! I am also stoked to watch IM 70.3 St George tomorrow morning AND race Fandango (not at the same time of course). Will you be tuning into St. George? We then rode for about 2.5-3 hours in the park and then did our off-the-bike runs on the trails. Talk about a truly epic weekend! Whilst you all were out there tackling the ice cold waters of the Chatfield Reservoir, I was out there taming the wilds of Stage 3 of the Pike's Peak APEX! As I said at the start, Paul Hunziker from Tacoma Washington has an incredible work ethic. When we charted his strategy for this year, it was clear he wanted to PR a marathon and finish an full-distance IRONMAN. He recently checked off the former and is now focused on the latter. Get Gritty Tip: Just Get Started Alright athletes, it's time to Get Gritty. Today's theme is simple—but powerful: just get started. Here's the truth: most goals don't fail because of a lack of talent. They fail because we wait for the “perfect time,” the “perfect plan,” or the “perfect mindset.” But perfection is a myth. If you're waiting for the stars to align before you take action—you'll be waiting forever. Getting started is where the transformation begins. It doesn't have to be a full-send workout. It can be putting on your running shoes. Opening your training plan. Logging that first 10-minute spin. One small step creates momentum, and momentum creates belief. Every big success story you admire? It started with one decision to move forward—often imperfectly. So the next time resistance whispers in your ear, “Not today,” or “You're not ready,” I want you to respond with action. Any action. Forward is forward. Because once you're in motion, everything changes. The path reveals itself, the confidence builds, and before you know it—you're becoming the athlete you imagined. So this week, don't overthink it. Just get gritty. And just get started. TriDot Workout of the Week: Workout Summary: Functional Threshold Test (20-minute) Session Note: Warmup 10 min @ Z2 with 3 x 30 sec (30 sec) Spinups and 3 x 1 min (1 min) @ Z4 Main Set 20 min - all out maximal effort Pacing Tip: Start at the average watts of your previous month's 20-minute. Use erg mode to control the effort. 1st 5' - hold that previous 20-minute average, 2nd 5' - slowly increment watts until you reach a perceived limit, 3rd 5' the same. Last 5' can be more aggressive. Be sure to enter/confirm your assessment results to update your training intensities and race projections. Fun Segment: Triathlon Fandango! A wild mix of multisport mayhem—where strategy meets spontaneity, and nothing goes according to plan! According to the Oxford Dictionary, a Fandango is a lively Spanish dance for two people, typically accompanied by castanets or tambourine. It can also be a foolish or useless act or thing. So with that context, are you ready for TRIATHLON FANDANGO! In this segment we'll throw a little controlled chaos into your training day! A ‘fandango' is usually a lively dance or an unpredictable situation… and let's be honest, that sounds a lot like your last transition, doesn't it? In this segment, we celebrate the unexpected moments, awkward moves, and off-the-cuff brilliance that only triathletes truly understand. Blockbuster Buoyancy You have to swim in a costume from your favorite movie—what do you choose and how do you make it hydrodynamic? Bonus points if it involves a cape, fins, or lightsaber. Snack Station Showdown Your only bike nutrition can come from gas station snacks. Build your fueling plan using three items and explain how they power your ride. (Yes, you can pick a taquito or tornado, but good luck with the aftermath.) Discipline Detour You must swap one triathlon leg with a totally unrelated skill—karate, chess, salsa dancing… what do you pick and why would it give you a competitive edge? Just imagine the T1 transition into a full tango. Bag Swap Roulette You have to trade your tri bag for a mystery duffel handed to you at check-in. What's the one item you're praying is inside—and what would send you straight into panic mode? Please let it be chamois cream… please. Celebrity Play-by-Play Your entire race will be commentated live by one celebrity. Who do you choose, and what kind of outrageous commentary are they dropping mid-race? Morgan Freeman narrating your port-a-potty stop? Iconic. And that's a wrap on this round of Triathlon Fandango—where the weird gets wilder, the hypothetical gets hilarious, and the only thing more unpredictable than your T1 socks is what we'll spin up next time. Got a ridiculous scenario you want us to tackle? Send it our way and keep the Fandango fun rolling. Until then, stay weird, race hard, and never underestimate the power of a good snack and a wild imagination! Closing: Thanks again for listening this week. Please be sure to follow us @303Triathlon and @grit2greatnessendurance and of course go to iTunes and give us a rating and a comment. We'd really appreciate it! Stay tuned, train informed, and enjoy the endurance journey!

In Part 13 of The Journey Beyond Death, and the third installment of our eight-part series on Near Death Experiences, we explore extraordinary stories of transformation, survival, and awakening. Dr. Tony Cicoria recounts the life-altering moment he was struck by lightning — a physical and spiritual jolt that opened the floodgates to a stunning musical gift. His account blurs the line between the tangible and the ethereal, inviting us to ponder the unseen forces that guide our lives. We honor the late Dr. Stephen Sinatra, a true pioneer in holistic medicine whose legacy of compassion and innovation continues to inspire. Alongside him, NDE survivor Tommy Rosa shares revelations from his own brush with death, offering profound insights into healing, the unity of all souls, and the divine design behind human existence. Their combined wisdom fuses science and spirituality into a tapestry of hope and possibility. Erica McKenzie's powerful testimony shines a light on the dangers of medication misuse and the enduring strength of the human spirit. Her near-death experience reveals a world beyond pain — a place of divine purpose, healing, and unconditional love. Through Erica's eyes, we are reminded that our true value lies not in how we appear to others, but in the light we carry within. ----------------------------- Featuring in order of appearance 09:24 – NDE Tony Cicoria 19:19 – NDE Tommy Rosa & Dr. Stephen Sinatra 37:44 – NDE Erica McKenzie 1:16:32 – NDE David Bennett ----------------------------- NDE Survivor: Dr. Anthony Cicoria In 1994, Dr. Anthony Cicoria was struck by lightning and nearly lost his life. During this harrowing moment, he had an out-of-body experience, watching from above as his own body lay motionless on the floor. Following his near-death experience, Dr. Cicoria began receiving what he describes as "downloads" — powerful streams of original music compositions for the piano. His life was forever changed, and he emerged with a profound sense of purpose, translating his spiritual encounter into music that touches the soul. ----------------------------- NDE Survivor: Tommy Rosa & Dr. Stephen Sinatra (In Loving Memory) In 1999, Bronx-born plumber Tommy Rosa died after a devastating hit-and-run accident. As he lay by the roadside, he felt a powerful tug pulling him through a tunnel of light. On the other side, Tommy found himself in a heavenly place, where he was shown that Earth was created by God to nourish and heal humanity — and that the separation we feel from each other and from the Divine is an illusion of our own making. He met a Divine Teacher who shared Eight Revelations about the nature of life and the universe. Meanwhile, Dr. Stephen Sinatra — a world-renowned cardiologist and pioneering voice in integrative medicine — was transforming his clinical approach, blending science with spirituality. When fate brought Tommy and Dr. Sinatra together, they realized the powerful synchronicities between Tommy's revelations and Dr. Sinatra's groundbreaking medical discoveries. Their collaboration led to one of the most inspired unions of science and spirit. Dr. Stephen Sinatra has since passed from this world, but his wisdom, compassion, and revolutionary contributions to healing continue to uplift countless lives. His legacy endures through his writings, his patients, and all who seek true, heart-centered healing. After enduring years of ridicule about her appearance as a child, Erica struggled with bulimia and diet pill addiction, ultimately collapsing and falling unconscious. Her spirit left her body and hovered near the ceiling, watching paramedics try to save her. She then traveled through a tunnel of radiant light, met God, and experienced two life reviews. During this journey, she was shown that each soul carries unique gifts and divine purposes — lessons she now shares through her transformational work and teachings. David's journey includes three extraordinary transformative experiences: In 1983, while serving as Chief Engineer aboard the ocean research vessel Aloha, he drowned and had a powerful Near-Death Experience. A second transformation occurred in 1994 during a deep meditation in Sedona, Arizona. His third awakening came in 2000 when he survived stage IV lung cancer that metastasized into his spine, causing its collapse. Hello, neighbor, I mean, Slackers! This week we are going to explore the educational live-action children's shows of the 1970s and 1980s that defined the Generation X experience. These programs were foundational, delivering lessons with creativity and care in an era before digital media. From the community spirit of Sesame Street to the gentle guidance of Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood, it's all about the shows that made education engaging and actually fun. My personal GOATs? Fred Rogers and Captain Kangaroo! The Electric Company used characters like Morgan Freeman's (!) Easy Reader to teach reading to older children, while Romper Room's Miss Nancy instilled manners through her Magic Mirror. Reading Rainbow, hosted by LeVar Burton, encouraged a love for literature, and Mr. Wizard's World made science accessible with Don Herbert's experiments. Each program contributed to a foundation of curiosity and empathy. There are also a ton of lesser-known shows like Zoom, which empowered children to create their own content, and The Big Blue Marble, which introduced global perspectives. Villa Alegre promoted bilingual learning, and 3-2-1 Contact brought STEM to life. These shows were more than entertainment; they were trusted sources of knowledge and connection for a generation.Available on Apple Podcasts, Spreaker, and major streaming platforms. In 2005, filmmaker Christopher Nolan was about to become mainstream with the first movie in his superhero trilogy. Meanwhile, a group of developers in Derby were working on a video game tie-in for said movie that wouldn't turn out to be quite as popular. We're taking a look at an action adventure game that was neither a precursor to a game based on The Dark Knight, nor The Dark Knight Returns. We're talking Batman Begins. On this episode of Stealth Boom Boom, we chat a little bit about trailers that feature Batman smiling, Trailer Voice Man, and Phoenix International. We also look at how important it was for this to be an interactive version of the movie in almost every way, as well as a cavalcade of celebs: a disinterested Morgan Freeman, a bloodthirsty Cillian Murphy, anbemused Michael Caine, and a Christian Bale that thinks all this video game stuff is a complete waste of time. Here are some of the things you're gonna hear us chat about in our review: the first glimpses of many things that would become staples in the Arkham games; instilling fear in your enemies by interacting with very specific parts of the environment; goons dropping their guns when they're scared; the optic cable from Splinter Cell; an exceptionally violent inverted takedown; familiar punching and kicking, as performed by a more acrobatic, yet less fluid Batman; the weird context-sensitive special move thing; NO BATARANG BUSINESS; climbing things with 70% arm and 30% leg; bonus Game Boy Advance opinions; a lack of yellow paint; training in the Himalayas; driving the tumbler around Gotham like it's a Burnout game; dingy rooms illuminated by beams of light coming through blinds; restrictions vs limitations; being rewarded(?) with clips from the film in between levels; odd differences in the narrative; Gary Oldman's absence; and a lockpicking minigame that's the same every single time. After all that, we take you through what some of the critics were saying about the game around the time it came out, and then we give you our final verdicts on whether Batman Begins is a Pass, a Play, or an Espionage Explosion. For those who would like to play along at home, we'll be discussing, reviewing and dissecting Deus Ex on the next episode of Stealth Boom Boom.IMPORTANT LINKS TO THINGS
Alpha Warrior launches the debut episode of People with special guest Taylor Ferber, the unfiltered, fearless media voice behind Talk to Me Taylor. In this lively and deeply personal conversation, Taylor opens up about her journey from military and law enforcement kid to Hollywood insider and media disruptor. She shares how standing up to cancel culture before it was mainstream nearly ended her career, why she walked away from corporate media, and how her “tits out, brain out” philosophy became a powerful symbol of self-expression and defiance. Taylor reveals the highs and lows of her time covering red carpets, calling out hypocrisy, and refusing to be boxed in by Hollywood narratives. She and Alpha dive into everything from facing public judgment to refusing to compromise core values, from her groundbreaking feature in Playboy to hilarious red carpet moments with Morgan Freeman and Chris Pratt. Packed with humor, raw truth, and soul-searching reflections, this episode sets the tone for a series built on real conversations with real people living boldly.
It's Miriam Shor, y'all! You Might Know Her From Younger, Hedwig and the Angry Inch, Magic Hour, GCB, Shortbus, Swingtown, Maestro, American Fiction, and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3. Miriam gave us all the scoop on grounding the zaniness of Diana Trout on Darren Star's Younger, leading the indie comedy Magic Hour, and appearing in "brilliant but canceled" series like GCB and Swingtown. Is trying to understand spiritual truth a futile task? Is it all beyond words and beyond the logical understanding of the human mind? In this Q&A episode of Wisdom of the Sages, Kaustubha Das, with guest host Kishori Gopi, takes on one of the deepest questions of spiritual life—whether the ultimate reality can be known, described, or even spoken of. Drawing from the ancient dialectic between Advaita Vedanta and Bhakti Vedanta, they explore how the Absolute is perceived across different schools of Indian philosophy, and whether Krishna's teachings are meant to be understood—or simply surrendered to. Then, things get bold and existential: If we're not the body or the mind… why not just commit suicide? This intense question opens the door to a profound discussion on karma, the soul's journey, and why trying to “opt out” is ill advised. Morgan Freeman shows up. So does Groundhog Day. Somehow it all makes sense. Key Highlights * The Bhakti perspective: Krishna can be understood—and described—in rich detail * How Shankara's “neti neti” approach led to the idea of the indescribable Absolute * Karma as a cosmic reformatory system * Why suicide doesn't break the cycle—just moves it like a whack-a-mole * What Newton might say about karma (and why we're not totally convinced) * “They muddy the waters to make them seem deep.” — Nietzsche, and also Kaustubha

I think this is a question we all ask ourselves, right? How do we know that we know that we know when it's God speaking? What if it's not?In this episode, I walk through four “tests” per se, that might help you discern whether what you're hearing is actually the voice of God.Hint: It doesn't sound like Morgan Freeman and it's usually not a burning bush. Disappointing, I know. But truly, we tend to over spiritualize what it sounds like or assume that it's only on special occasions or big decisions but in reality, the Heavenly Father is always speaking!Through His people,Through His Word,Through prayer,Through dreams,Through all kinds of places and particulars, His voice is reminding you that you're seen, significant, and safe. The kicker? His voice usually calls us to get uncomfortable, release some things that we want to hold onto, or calling us to step up in ways we feel ill-equipped.John 10:27 says, “My sheep listen to My voice; I know them, and they follow Me."You are His sheep. He is your Shepherd. You have the Holy Spirit. You hear His voice right where you are..I hope as you make space for quiet and lean in, this podcast will help remind you that you already hold the superpower of having direct access to the King of Kings. It's absolutely extraordinary, and it's true.
Hosts Josh and Jamie and special returning guest critic Adam Nayman discuss 90s music video directors making atmospheric horror-procedurals with a double feature of David Fincher's aggressively unpleasant yet perversely watchable urban neo-noir/serial killer thriller SE7EN (1995) starring Brad Pitt and Morgan Freeman and Mark Pellington's depressed, slow-burn supernatural folklore horror drama THE MOTHMAN PROPHECIES (2002) starring Richard Gere and Laura Linney. In this episode of The Rewatch Party, Nick, Anthony, and Elise dive into the stylishly twisty world of Lucky Number Slevin, a 2006 crime thriller that blends mistaken identity, organized crime, and razor-sharp dialogue. With its neo-noir vibes and a star-studded cast including Josh Hartnett, Morgan Freeman, Ben Kingsley, and Bruce Willis, the hosts debate whether the film's complex narrative still holds up on a rewatch—or if it relies too heavily on its signature plot twist. Nick takes the lead in unpacking the film's layered storytelling, appreciating the clever screenplay and unique direction by Paul McGuigan. Anthony, ever the crime film connoisseur, praises the film's stylish approach and the way it balances tension with wit. Elise, on the other hand, questions whether the film's heavy reliance on plot reveals makes it less rewatchable once you know the outcome, raising a solid point about how much surprise contributes to enjoyment. The group discusses the performances across the board, especially Josh Hartnett's portrayal of the charming and enigmatic Slevin. There's spirited debate over whether Lucky Number Slevin leans more toward cool and clever or just a little too self-aware for its own good. Bruce Willis's presence is noted for bringing a stoic intensity to the film, while Freeman and Kingsley provide gravitas in their roles as rival crime bosses. Ultimately, the trio lands in mixed territory on rewatchability. While the film's style and sharp dialogue keep it engaging, the hosts agree that a first viewing delivers the biggest impact. However, for fans of twisty narratives and cool crime flicks, Lucky Number Slevin may still find its way back onto the screen every now and then. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0425210/

We explore the film's impact on the serial killer genre, Fincher's signature style and career-defining choices, and how Se7en critiques the very systems—and audiences—that consume stories of violence and moral decay. The unforeseen deaths of Gene Hackman and his wife, Betsy Arakawa, shocked the world when their bodies were discovered in their Santa Fe, New Mexico, home on February 26, 2025. Authorities responded to a welfare check requested by a maintenance worker who hadn't heard from the couple in weeks. Upon arrival, law enforcement found Hackman in the mudroom near his cane, as if he had fallen. Arakawa was located in the bathroom near a space heater, with an open prescription bottle and scattered pills on the countertop. One of their dogs was found deceased in a crate close to Arakawa, while two other dogs were found alive in different areas of the house. Friends and neighbors had noticed a decline in Hackman's health in the months leading up to his death. Once known for riding his bike around the neighborhood, he had become increasingly reclusive. At 95, his frailty had become apparent, and Arakawa, a 65-year-old classical pianist, had also retreated from public life. Authorities classified the deaths as "suspicious" due to the circumstances, but foul play was not suspected. Initial autopsy reports revealed no external trauma, and tests ruled out carbon monoxide poisoning. Data from Hackman's pacemaker suggested his heart had stopped on February 17, meaning they had been dead for about nine days before being found. Speculation surrounded the case, with some questioning whether it could have been a "companion suicide," but experts doubted this, given that the couple was found in separate parts of the house. The presence of prescription medication near Arakawa and Hackman's known heart condition led investigators to consider a medical event as the likely cause. The entertainment world responded with an outpouring of grief. John Travolta shared stories of Hackman's humor and brilliance on the set of Get Shorty, while Morgan Freeman honored him at the 2025 Oscars, calling him one of the most generous performers he'd ever worked with. Hackman's career spanned over four decades, earning him two Academy Awards for The French Connection and Unforgiven. His work in Bonnie and Clyde, The Conversation, and The Royal Tenenbaums cemented his status as one of Hollywood's most revered actors. Though he retired from acting in 2004, he remained active in writing and personal pursuits. The investigation into the exact circumstances of Gene Hackman and Betsy Arakawa's deaths continues. Their passing leaves behind a legacy of artistic contributions and a community mourning the loss of two lives lived largely outside the Hollywood spotlight. #GeneHackman #BetsyArakawa #HollywoodLegend #UnsolvedMystery Want to listen to ALL of our podcasts AD-FREE?
