Jay & Dan cover - THE TOP 10 TOXINS TO WATCH OUT FOR! Conspiracy Fact! The ingredients in our food, drinks, and bathroom products are slowly killing us. Why? Because they contain toxic chemicals. You probably figured out that it makes products cheaper to produce, last longer on shelfs, look more attractive, etc. But also these toxins accumulate in your system. So over time you get ill, allergies, chronic disease, auto-immune issues, and cancers! Next, Big Pharma & DRs make profit! The FDA & USDA approve of these chemicals. The system is corrupt & intends on keeping you sick and nearly dead. Just enough to where you can stay working, paying taxes, buying medicine, and buying products so the system constantly profits. 1. Natural & Artificial Flavors - Just wait till you hear what's really allowed in these products. 2. Color Additives - Different dyes are all chemicals you need to know about. 3. Nitrites and Nitrates - They are toxic preservatives that also make meat pretty red. 4. Soy Lecithin - A common emulsifier you will unfortunately find in MANY products. 5. BAD OILS - There is a list to go over on this one. 6. Xanthin Gum - Another emulsifier made of mutated corn, fermented in bacteria! 7. MSG - Many people already know to avoid this. If you don't, listen in for the explanation. 8. Carrageenan - A thickening agent that destroys healthy gut microbiome. 9. Citric Acid - Flavor enhancer & a preservative that you should avoid. 10. Expeller Pressed Oils - These are superheated causing breakdown into carcinogens. These can cause cancer. There is more! What is ORGANIC considered by the laws of FDA? There is loads of deception here. But in general always a better choice. WATER is very important. Your body is 70% or more water. Micro-plastics are now in everyone. Glyphosate (Round-Up) is in everyone, & even in unpopulated places on the earth! Local tap water has toxins. You drink it and bathe in it. So, what are some answer to your water? The SUN is energy for all life on the planet. We are told by DRs, commercials, marketing, you must avoid it as much as possible. Bull shit! But skin cancer keeps going up over time, why? Well, listen in for some reasonable scientific explanations to why its not the sun causing this. This info comes from Tim James at chemicalfreebody.com. DNA Testing For Ideal Diet/Exercise [12:01] Trevor says: Dear Robb and Nicki, I really enjoy your podcast. I've gone from only listening when the topic looked interesting to listening to every episode because there's always something good or interesting. I appreciate your alls' free thinking mindset and news topics. I've also bought a big ol' box of LMNT and really like the Watermelon flavor. My question is about DNA testing. Do you think there's any value to having this done to determine ideal diet, exercise, and overall lifestyle cues? Or is trial and error a better route? If you think testing is valuable, is there a company you can recommend? Thanks, Trevor 2. Body Composition Scales [20:21] Danny says: Are any of the scales on the market that claim to measure your body composition worth looking into or are they all pretty much bullshit 3. Nitrates/Nitrites [24:44] Mackenzie says: I've been thinking about my Nitrate/Nitrite consumption lately. The ideas around Nitrate/Nitrite seems to be a bit confusing because it's present in natural foods but also added to processed foods. I eat a fair bit of Kimchi, some deli meat, condiments like Sriracha - in addition to loving things like beets, spinach, celery..etc. I don't appear to have any adverse reactions to Nitrate/Nitrite consumption, so with that said, would it be better for my overall health to cut out those more processed foods? Thanks! 4. Calcium Intake [29:04] Megan says: Hi Robb and Nicki, I love your show! I had a question regarding getting adequate calcium when not eating dairy. I eat a whole food diet, no processed foods (no gluten, dairy, soy, or corn). I eat lots of grass fed beef, organic chicken thighs, wild shrimp, and wild scallops. I do not eat sardines or fish bones though. Is it possible to get enough calcium when not consuming dairy products or fish bones? Thanks for your time! Megan 5. What is "Normal" Blood Pressure? [33:02] Amy says: Hey Guys! So I went to donate blood today and was refused because my blood pressure was too low. Eek! I usually run about 90-something over 60-something, which I realize is already pretty low. Today, I was 88/55, as measured by a machine and not manually by the lab tech. (Don't know if that makes it more or less accurate.) So it was what we might call "freakishly low," but the thing is, I FELT FINE. Physical energy was good, mental outlook was all right -- no issues. Nothing about how I felt all day would suggest that my BP was "too low." (I went to donate around 12pm.) So my question is, for a mostly low-carbing, very fit 35-year-old woman, what is a "normal" blood pressure, and more important, is BP another parameter we should add to blood glucose, HbA1C, triglycerides, and other markers whose "normal" ranges are based on the sedentary, sick, and inflamed masses and therefore reflect what's *common* more than what's normal/optimal? (I'm reminded of how Robb's wife's ob/gyn was surprised at what a relatively "easy" pregnancy she had. Well, yeah, compared to all the walking, talking chronic disease bags he/she normally sees, Nikki's health was off the charts. *Of course* she had a better time of it.) I do realize that when it comes to BP, there *is* such a thing as too low, but I'm wondering what that is, as long as someone feels no adverse effects. (Kind of like glucose...I've tested and seen myself in the mid-to-high 60s and felt FINE. Yay, fat adaptation.) In this episode, we are going to talk about some common preservatives called nitrates and nitrites. We will also share some research we found regarding NMN (nicotinamide mononucleotide). According to the IARC, International Agency for Research on Cancer, run by WHO states: Nitrates or nitrites found primarily in meat sources are probably carcinogenic to humans, conclusions from epidemiologic studies are somewhat mixed. High nitrate intake may be associated with a decreased risk of gastric cancer, whereas nitrite intake may increase the risk of glioma and thyroid and gastric cancers On the other hand, we also talk discuss why NMN and NAD are important for our DNA.

You Asked, We Answered! Transcript of the podcast Hi, my name is John Miller, I’m a senior at Penn State Brandywine and I will be your host of this podcast.  Today’s topic is the impacts on water related to wildfire.  For those of you who aren’t familiar, wildfire is another term for forest fire.  Wildfire can have significant effects on water quality, from sediment loads to chemical reactions.  In today’s podcast, we will explore these impacts in detail. Erosion rates dynamically increase as a result of wildfire.  Due to the increased erosion, high sediment loads and turbidity can be observed. [1] Sediment loads, in large amounts increase processing costs of water treatment facilities.  In severe cases, such as Colorado’s Buffalo Creek wildfire, sediment can even shut the facilities down entirely. [1] Sediment containing phosphorus also promotes plant growth when found in high concentrations.  This can reduce the amount of dissolved oxygen in the watershed, impacting the local wildlife. [2] Turbidity refers to the level of clarity or how clear the water is.  Turbidity promotes algae blooms which, like phosphorus, can also reduce oxygen levels in the water. [3] Turbidity is measured in nephelometric turbidity units (NTU) and an acceptable level for entering a water treatment facility is anything under 20 NTU. [4] Aside from being aesthetically unappealing, turbidity not removed from drinking water can promote growth of pathogens increasing the risk of waterborne disease. [5] Wildfire affects water chemistry in various ways.  PH measures the acidity or alkalinity of the water.  A normal PH for tap water and freshwater aquariums is a value of 7.0.  PH spikes can be observed as a result of an overload of sediment into the watershed.  PH tends to spike initially after a wildfire and heavy storms, then stabilizes over time.  [6] Ash deposited by runoff can increase the alkalinity in the watershed [7], while metal minerals can act as “Lewis acids” [6] increasing the water’s acidity.  Another chemical imbalance caused by wildfire is increased levels of nitrogen.  Nitrogen comes in several forms and the primary forms deposited into watersheds following a burn are ammonium and dissolved organic carbon. [7] Dissolved organic carbon and nitrates are removed from the water only by means of microbial activity; also, known as beneficial bacteria. [3] Nitrites and nitrates are a byproduct of the microbial activity consuming ammonium. [3] The ammonium is the result of nitrogen volatizing.  A study on watersheds in Southern California showed nitrate levels increasing by as much as 550% under post wildfire conditions. [7] To put this into perspective, many of you may own an aquarium or know someone that does.  Nitrate levels for a healthy aquarium should never exceed 40ppm.  An increase of 550% would show levels as high as 220ppm and would certainly result in the loss of your aquatic friends. Phosphorus is another chemical effect that can be observed following a wildfire.  Phosphorus levels increase primarily due to ash deposited into the surface water following a wildfire. [3] Phosphorus tends to bind to soil and, therefore, increases levels in the watershed as runoff occurs.  Phosphorus also promotes algae blooms, which can have a leaching effect on the dissolved oxygen in the water. [3] Additionally, phosphorus based fire retardants can have adverse effects on the watershed when used to extinguish wildfire. [2] Aside from algae blooms, phosphorus can pose health threats to humans when found in drinking water.  The leaching effect of oxygen can lower oxygen levels in the blood stream.  Due to trace amounts of iron that come along with phosphorus, it is possible to corrode copper piping in our water delivery systems. [8] Furthermore, burning soil produces amino acids which lead to elevated levels of ammonia immediately following a wildfire. [5] Wildfire can cause the top-level soil to become hydrophobic, preventing water from permeating. [2] Due to a lack of infiltration, runoff levels may increase by as much as 2,350%! [1] High-intensity fire can also increase the erosion rate of soil, which in turn increases the sediment load delivered to the watershed. [6] Runoff depositing ash into the watershed, raising PH values, facilitates dispersion of the soil’s aggregates. [9] Prescribed burns are fires that are intentional and controlled.  These controlled burns can reduce the risk of extreme wildfire. [10] Proper burn plans must be in place prior to a prescribed burn.  Characteristics of a proper plan include considerations of temperature, wind, moisture and humidity and smoke dispersion. [10] Watershed impacts may still be observed in terms of chemical and sedimentation, however, to much less a degree than wildfire impacts. In conclusion, we can see there is a direct relation between wildfire and water quality.  By administering prescribed burns, we can effectively reduce the risk of forest fire and its damage to the environment.  For more information on wildfire and its impacts on water quality see the additional references and links provided in the transcript.  Thank you all for listening and may your passion for Earth science burn intensely.   (This audio file was recorded by John Miller, undergraduate student, Penn State Brandywine, on November 11, 2016. Like sulfites in wine, the health implications of nitrites in cured meat trigger a lot of discussion. Scott Kveton, founder of Bacn.com, shares this tip: If you drink orange juice while eating bacon, the vitamin C helps neutralize some of the ill effects of nitrites on your system. (But please, we're not doctors. If you want to eat bacon all day every day, you should talk to a physician.)
