After months away on maternity leave, we're back — and a lot has changed. In this episode, I open up about life after becoming a mom, what God's been speaking in this season, and why this break was so needed. We're also unveiling the new name of this podcast: She Lives Freed — a bold declaration over the women in this community and the mission behind every conversation we have. We're diving into some real and raw conversations this week, including: The heart behind the rebrand Life after maternity leave and how motherhood has reshaped my calling My thoughts on the recent Charlie Kirk situation — and why it's stirred up such an important conversation for believers Why I don't believe Taylor Swift should be celebrated as a role model for young girls — and the importance of discernment in pop culture And more unfiltered, Spirit-led thoughts on culture, calling, and living boldly in truth This episode is a reset, a reintroduction, and a rally cry for the women who are done playing small. Takeaways: God often uses seasons of rest to refine our purpose. Culture will always try to disciple the next generation — it's up to us to point them back to truth. Living “freed” means living fearless, bold, and anchored in the Word, even when it's unpopular. Liz LongleyTake a walk with me down Fascination Street as I get to know Nashville based artist Liz Longley. In this episode, Liz and I chat about her being born & raised in Pennsylvania, not far from where Taylor grew up, and how there MUST be something in the water in that area! Then we get into some of the reasons behind her attending; as well as some of the thigs that she learned at The Berkley School of Music. We touch very briefly on her similarly brief NYC residence, before she packed her guitar and her song book, and headed for the much more apt Nashville. Of course, I get her to explain a musical concept that I only recently learned about, and it turns out that it is her favorite musicology term! Then we talk about her music. Liz has released SEVEN albums! I pepper her with questions about some of my favorites of her work, and the meaning behind them. Naturally, I ask her about her two Kickstarter campaigns. In 2012, Liz launched a Kickstarter campaign designed to help her finance a studio album. By the end of the campaign, she has raised 157% of her goal. The resulting record that she made, landed her a record deal with Sugar Hill Records! We discuss a bit of her time at that record company, and how her exit from it transpired. Sadly, when she left the record company, they had received & shelved her latest album. So, she turned once again, to her backers at Kickstarter. Her 2020 Kickstarter campaign had a goal to raise enough funds to PURCHASE the finished album from the record company. The campaign met the stated goal in the first 24 hours and went on to raise 333% of the financial goal; making that one of the biggest musician campaigns ever funded on the platform. She used the extra funds to create TWO more records! Liz was a blast to chat with, and she even let me play two of her songs that I absolutely love. PLUS, we get together to come up with an amazing offer for the listeners of this episode. Liz will send every listener a FREE CD EP (just pay shipping)! Click the link below to get that FREE CD! Make sure you follow her on all of the social medias, and check her website for tour dates near you. At the time of this recording, Liz was about 8.75 months pregnant with her second child. That baby was born less than 2 weeks ago! Congratulations Liz and welcome Connor to the world!Link to FREE CD (Just pay shipping)B) FSH Sales Page #1 — Liz Longley
We get started talking coffee. Then a simple road-life chat about interstate numbers flipped into a full-on culture rumble: Taylor Swift as role model or red flag, Bad Bunny and the Super Bowl halftime backlash, and why every big stage now doubles as a battlefield. We don't tiptoe. We pull apart what “pushing boundaries” means for mainstream pop, whether provocation is smart art or cheap attention, and how much responsibility stars owe to young fans who adopt their style and values. From there, we tackle the tougher stuff most people feel but rarely say out loud: giving credit to political opponents, wanting cities to feel safe without turning it into a purity test, and the moment TV news drifted from reporting to outrage engines. If you've felt worn down by clickbait, AI fakes, and the endless demand to pick a side, you'll hear your own fatigue in this one—and you'll pick up practical ways to resist being emotionally farmed, like verifying sources and noticing when a headline is engineered to light you up.We also argue about who belongs on the biggest stage in American sports. Is the NFL's global strategy sacrificing the fan base that made it massive? We float a different halftime vision—country and heartland rock that match the audience—while acknowledging the business math behind controversy. And because not everything has to be a fight, we cool things off with tour-bus coffee rituals, an Alabama–Tennessee bet, and whether cold plunges actually help recovery and focus. If you're craving honest talk that respects your intelligence, welcomes disagreement, and still feels like friends on a back porch, press play. Then tell us: who should headline the Super Bowl, and what would restore your trust in the news? Subscribe, share with a friend, and drop a review with your halftime pick. The Try That in a Small Town Podcast is powered by e|spaces!
