Billie Eilish's new album Hit Me Hard and Soft has been hailed by critics as her best album yet. She describes it as an “album-ass album”, meant to be listened to in its entirety, but it's also provocative: it takes on fame and body-shaming ("People say I look happy just because I got skinny") and women she wants to please (“I could eat that girl for lunch, she dances on my tongue”). So what do we think? Lilah is joined by two experts, the FT's music writer Arwa Haider and US media business correspondent Anna Nicolaou, to discuss the role Billie plays in our pop pantheon.-------We love hearing from you. Lilah is on Instagram @lilahrap. We're on X @lifeandartpod and on email at lifeandart@ft.com. We are grateful for reviews on Apple and Spotify. She recommends British-Lebanese DJ Salia (here's Habibi Riddim), Lebanese singer songwriter Yasmine Hamdan and Palestinian-Canadian artist Nemahsis– Lilah wants to see people use more stuff in your home: read your books, eat your food, wear your clothes. The book she picked up, which she recommends, is called Subway Lives: 24 Hours in the Life of the New York City Subway, by Jim Dwyer– Anna wants less social media, especially around oat milk bashing. In this episode of Greece Chats I am joined by Katerine Duska. Katerine is a Greek-Canadian singer/songwriter currently residing between Athens, London and Montreal. In 2018, her single 'Fire Away' was selected for the official "Nescafe Canada" television & radio ad campaign. The following year, she represented Greece in the Eurovision Song Contest with her hit song "Better Love", making the top of Greece's iTunes Chart. Katerine co-wrote the song with Leon of Athens and David Sneddon (Lana del Rey, Lewis Capaldi, Mika) and produced it with Phil Cook (Ellie Goulding, Paloma Faith). The song received extensive international airplay, charting in over 40 countries worldwide and making the Global Viral Top 50 chart on Spotify. Her follow up single ‘Anemos' that same year, made the top 3 of Greece's Viral Top 50 chart on Spotify as well as the Greek iTunes Chart. Her musical style channels the dark sonic timbres of Lorde, Jessie Ware and Annie Lennox and her trademark soulful rasp has earned her comparisons to Adele and Amy Winehouse. Katerine first rose to indie star status in Greece with her hit song "One in a Million" and her cover of Arctic Monkeys' "Do I wanna know", reaching millions of views on Youtube. She has since then collaborated on stage and supported artists such as LP, Albin Lee Meldau, Tom Baxter, Yasmine Hamdan, Oddisee, Kadebostany and has performed in prestigious venues and festivals across the world such as South by Southwest, Odeon of Herodus Atticus, Rockwave Festival, The Stavros Niarchos Cultural Center Foundation, Megaron Athens Concert Hall, The O2 Academy Islington, Sofar Sound's /Amnesty International's global festival "Give a home" (where she was one of the 300+ artists to participate in support of the world's refugees) as well as Carnegie Hall & SNFCC' s "The Lullaby Project". Katerine was also a coach/mentor on the hit tv talent show "The Final Four" in Greece (2019). She is currently recording her upcoming EP in London with producer Anu Pillai and David Sneddon (Lewis Capaldi, Lana del Rey, Roisin Murphy, Ladyhawke) set to be released in 2022. At the time of recording, Katerine is on her way to the US to perform as SXSW with a slate of shows scheduled. Music is never incidental in a movie made by our guest this week: director, collage artist, and music maker Jim Jarmusch. Music is part of his films’ DNA, a through line running through his characters’ black comedy gags and existential wanderings. There’s no stylistic template—everything from crazed blues to ambient drones have soundtracked Jarmusch’s films—but the director ties songs together with an unmatched patience and style. The soundtrack to one of those motion pictures—2014’s vampire yarn Only Lovers Left Alive—was recently reissued by Sacred Bones. It features Jim’s band, SQÜRL, his frequent collaborator lutenist Jozef Van Wissem, and guest appearances by Madeline Follin of Cults, Zola Jesus, and Yasmine Hamdan. Jim joined us from his place in upstate New York to discuss the pastoralism that defines his creative practice these days, his early days, collaborators like John Lurie and Steve Buscemi, and of course music—Neil Young, Tom Waits, Iggy, Wu-Tang Clan, and beyond.
For this episode, it's a privilege to be with two wonderfully creative and warm musicians - Ego Sensation and Dave W of New York City's psychedelic brutalist deconstructors, White HillsThis is a band for whom evolution, collaboration and experimentation are synonymous. Through collaborating with diverse artists such as Jim Jarmusch, Yasmine Hamdan, Simone-Marie Butler and Jim Coleman, Ego and Dave allow themselves to sculpt alternative soundscapes that can surprise even themselves. Unexpected outcomes are the beauty of collaboration - you never quite know what you're gonna get.I Wanna Jump Like Dee Dee is a music podcast that does music interviews differently. I'm Giles Sibbald and I'm talking to extraordinary musicians, DJ's and producers about how they use an experimental mindset in their lives to amplify their own creativity, pursue new challenges, overcome fears and bounce back from mistakes.- brought to you by Hey Sunday, the mothership of the experimental mindset™.Podcast logo and art by Tide Adesanya, Coppie and Paste

In this episode, we go deeper into understanding anti-semitism within the context of racism in German society. COVID-19 gave rise to a range of conspiracy “theories” - which are often explicitly or implicitly anti-Semitic. A well known anti-semitic trope is the image of the Jew controlling the media or the finance world - and now this has been adapted and we see the image of the Jew as a likely “mastermind” behind the pandemic. This aside, what about the mainstream discourse in Germany that paints the Jews as eternal victims? To challenge these narrow and racist representations, Sharon from IWS invited Chana Dischereit who is active with the Roma and Sinti Association Baden-Württemberg and the NSU Civil Tribunal, Iris Hefetz from Jewish Voice for Peace in the Middle East - Germany, and Inna Michaeli - a sociologist and feminist queer activist. We hare and discuss our experiences in Germany, on diverse Jewish identities, anti-semitism and political activism. With music by Yasmine Hamdan, Deaf Chonkey and Frau Sammer.

Se her hvordan Hudna sætter gang i Roskilde Festival:

Oslo World Seminar: Rob Young in conversation with: Rossy de Palma, Yasmine Hamdan and Tumi aka. Stogie T, about the importance of art in the society. Some of the topics of the talk is in what way an antidote, avant-garde art can be the weapon to fighting populism. And that art not only can generate new discourses and integrating new ideas, but that it also can generate empathy and reveal complex dynamics of human psychology. Rob Young conversate with the three icons, who through their artistic production have revealed complex dynamics of identity, sexuality and gender construction, which has undoubtedly generated an anti-discourse that has triggered social and cultural transformations.
