This week, SepTIMEber continues as we head back to 14th century France to launch real fireballs out of real trebuchets alongside real Montreal LARPers in a rare misstep from a true master of the popcorn flick. It's 2003's Timeline, directed by Richard Donner, based on the book by Michael Crichton, and starring Paul Walker, Frances O'Connor, Gerard Butler, Billy Connolly, David Thewlis, Anna Friel, Neal McDonough, Ethan Embry, Matt Craven, Michael Sheen, Lambert Wilson, Marton Csokas and Rossif Sutherland. Two movies into this theme month and we already be down bad with Stockholm Syndrome, as the dire straits of The Time Machine made this film look like an oasis in the desert comparatively. Alas, it is a deeply flawed flick to be sure, and for the very first time one of our hosts could not make it over the finish line. Plus: a bit of listener mail makes Hayley finally explain her longstanding beef with Ted Lasso. If you'd like to watch the movie before listening to our conversation, good luck! Despite being a Paramount movie, Timeline is not available on Paramount+ but is rentable on YouTube and the Cineplex app at the time of publication. Other works discussed on this episode include Rebel Ridge, Green Room, Blue Ruin, Kinds of Kindness, Poor Things, The Favourite, The Ballad of Buster Scruggs, The Emperor's New Groove, Child's Play, M3GAN, English Teacher, The Lost World: Jurassic Park, Jurassic Park III, Almost Live!, Ready Player One, Backspot, I Like Movies, Sabrina Carpenter's album Short & Sweet, The Dana Carvey Show, Too Funny To Fail, 300, Terminator 2: Judgment Day, Midnight in Paris, Pushing Daisies, A.I.: Artificial Intelligence, Olympus Has Fallen, Greenland, Geostorm, Superman II, The Goonies, Lethal Weapon, Maverick, Radio Flyer, The 13th Warrior, Sky Captain & The World of Tomorrow, Paycheck and The Perfect Score. We'll be back next week with a little ADHD-TPB, as SepTIMEber rolls on with a movie J Mo torrented off the internet roughly 15 years ago and never got around to actually watching: 1979's Time After Time, starring Malcolm McDowell and David Warner as H.G. Wells and Jack The Ripper respectively. Sounds like fun, right? Here's hoping! It is also not available on streaming, but once again is rentable on YouTube. Until then, we'll see you at the movies!!

It's season finale time! And my guest today is the whirlwind also known as Kathy Lette.Australian Kathy smashed her way into the global bestseller lists at the age of 17 with the novel Puberty Blues. Since then she has turned her irreverent, en pointe pen on the peaks and troughs, triumphs and total BS of female existence.I first read her with Girls Night Out and The Llama Parlour in my twenties and met Kathy when I was features editor of New Woman (yet another resident of the magazine graveyard). Foetal Attraction and Mad Cow followed, which was made into a film starring Anna Friel and Joanna Lumley. 20 books later, her latest, The Revenge Club, takes hilarious aim at the way women are scrap-heaped (sometimes professionally and personally) in their 50s.Kathy joined me to play pun bingo and talk about why life is in two acts and the key is surviving the perimenopausal interval, reaping the benefits of the invisibility cloak and chipping away at ageing double standards. She also told me about being told off by her teenage daughter, the power of complaining, why divorce isn't to be feared and why her midlife mantra is, if it doesn't spark joy, it's time to toss it away.* You can buy all the books mentioned in this podcast at The Shift bookshop on Bookshop.org, including The Revenge Club by Kathy Lette and the book that inspired this podcast, The Shift: how I lost and found myself after 40 - and you can too, by me.* If you enjoyed this episode and you fancy buying me a coffee, pop over to my page on buymeacoffee.com• And if you'd like to support the work that goes into making this podcast and get a weekly newsletter plus loads more content including exclusive transcripts of the podcast, why not join The Shift community, come and have a look around at www.theshiftwithsambaker.substack.com• The Shift (on life after 40) with Sam Baker is created and hosted by Sam Baker and edited by Juliette Nicholls @ Pineapple Audio Production. Arguably the most fantastical (and sexy) of the Bard's comedies, A Midsummer Night's Dream was first adapted into a movie in 1925 and has received numerous treatments since. This podcast episode delves into a 1999 Hollywood treatment directed by Michael Hoffman and starring Kevin Kline, Anna Friel, Stanley Tucci, Christian Bale, Rupert Everett, Michelle Pfeiffer, Calista Flockhart, Dominic West, and a whole lot of bicycles. This take on the story received lukewarm reviews and tepid box office, but Ryan has a soft spot for this one and he really wanted to talk about it on record. He's joined by Sylvan and Cheryl. Discussion topics include the play's approach to sexuality, the story's historical blind spots to patriarchy, how the film tries to expand the depth of Bottom without altering the source material's text, and what A Midsummer Night's Dream has to say about the tragical farce of the failed artist. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/ryan-valentine3/support

Brandon recently sat down with Diane to discuss her latest film, Isle of Hope, directed by Damian Romay. This touching film is a testament to the power of family and working through your past to define your present and future. Ladd shares her thoughts on the film's hopeful message and why it deserves attention during this awards season. Emma Milani is a rising star who has made a name for herself in the past few years. Milani right now is best known for her role as Ana Phoneix on Hulu's drama Monarch. Milani has also appeared on the show Solve as Nora Brooks and was Lacey in Dying to be a Cheerleader. However, this latest role on Monarch has her working with some big names, including Trace Adkins, Susan Sarandon, and Anna Friel. Milani is so earnest and sweet -- we began the interview at the beginning, the phone call that she was cast on Monarch, and her initial reaction. As she began explaining what it was like, she got emotional. You can see it's still such excitement for her to be on this road. It was so refreshing to see someone show pure joy for their job. We talked about everything, including Ana's decisions, if it would affect the two families if Milani believes Ana is really in love, and how this relationship might look moving forward. We also spoke about some of the most dramatic moments on the show (and yes, there are many of them). Milani is fun, sweet, transparent, and bursts with energy. It was a joy to meet her and hear about her process and experience on Monarch. While Milani is not sure of a renewal yet (it has not been announced yet), she is hopeful. However, she always has music to fall back on -- yes, she sings too! So watch out for Milani because she is on the brink of massive success. Host: Monica Gleberman Editor: Polina Jdanova Social Media Graphic: Jojo -- Synopsis: Reigning King of Country Music Albie Roman, along with his insanely talented -- and tough as nails -- wife, Queen of Country Music Dottie Cantrell Roman, have created a country music dynasty. When their reign as country royalty is put in jeopardy, heir to the crown Nicolette "Nicky" Roman will stop at nothing to protect her family's legacy while ensuring her own quest for stardom alongside her brother Luke and sister Gigi. On Books, on "Dune, " on Uncle Buck and Marcella! After a few weeks apart, the Halls reunite to talk books, TV series, and the new movie "Dune." And being us, we manage to squeeze in all sorts of intriguing tidbits, from the inspiration for the movie "Home Alone" to the fact we're "famous by proxy." We discuss:Books:"Ghosts of New York," by Jim Lewis.  A novel that suspends the laws of time and space follows four characters in the Big Apple."The Silver Arrow," by Lev Grossman. The author of the adult-themed "Magicians" series writes a fun children's yarn involving a magical train and saving the world."How Music Works," by David Byrne. The Talking Heads frontman explains how the making of music stems from context (time, place, the technology available) and looks at his own musical history. Highly recommended."A Mind Spread Out on the Ground," by Alicia Elliott. This raw memoir explores the ongoing effects of personal, intergenerational, and colonial traumas on Native people.Streaming/Theaters:"Dune": Denis Villeneuve ("Blade Runner 2049," "Arrival") directs an engrossing, visually stunning adaptation of Frank Herbert's complex 1965 sci-fi novel of otherworldly adventure, political intrigue, and giant sandworms."Marcella",  a Netflix drama with a London detective (Anna Friel) coping with marital woes, her struggles as a mom, and a tragic loss—while she excels at catching killers."Uncle Buck," a lesser but still enjoyable John Hughes movie with John Candy as a bachelor slob babysitting his brother's kids in suburban Chicago, to their chagrin."In the Dark": The third season finds our hot mess blind girl (Perry Mattfield) and her friends on the lam while searching for her abducted pal Jess. And having lots of sex.

Fox Entertainment Music's new executive vice president, Mamie Coleman, joins the conversation to discuss all things music at Fox-owned FEM, Tubi and Bento Box and how the team uses music to tell stories and drive revenue across all of Fox's platforms. Part of Coleman's oversight is turning Fox's original music into revenue creation. Now that Fox has spun off many of its major assets to Disney, Fox has gone back to its scrappy entrepreneurial roots, acquiring Bento Box, Tubi and TMZ and launching a new non-fungible token business with Blockchain Creative Labs. As EVP, creative music, Coleman helps oversee Fox's fun, poppy, electronically-driven sound, which includes mnemonics for all three brands as well as a music catalog of more than 200 original songs, 17 theme songs and growing. Many of Fox's alternative series are musically driven, including number-one broadcast hit The Masked Singer as well as I Can See Your Voice, Name That Tune and new show Alter Ego.Coleman has a strong legacy from which to draw: Fox has a long history of emphasizing music in its shows with such programs as American Idol, Glee, Empire and Star and the upcoming country-music series, Monarch, starring Susan Sarandon, Trace Adkins and Anna Friel.
